Starfish- I have an ABA meeting as well tomorrow morning- its at 10am eek. I dont think its the same one as you live in sydney, so am thinking you are in a different um 'click' (sorry cant think of what the group's are called). Mine is on starting solids- which might be good from a different perspective.
V- hope your day got better.
Jemima/Sacha- can you cook meals and freeze them for when DH/DP's are away? When DH is on night/afternoon shifts, I cook a meal in the morning- something that can easily be reheated, that way I know he has a meal to take to work, I have a meal, and there is a spare to put in the freezer for another time. When he is on the nights/afternoons I wasn't eating or would eat toast at like 10-midnight when Kaetlyn was settled for the night. I usally make something easy like spag bol, pasta bake, risotto.
Tina- Congrates- I had to try and decifer what you had written, as I wasnt on here while TTC. Yeah for you!!! What does BFP stand for?
Sacha, I am training Kaetlyn to drink water from a normal cup/training cup she seems to be doing okay- she loves licking the water from a normal cup- it is really cute. The training cup that I am using is a playtex one, from BigW- it has handles and a spout which she more just rubs her gums on, and pulls a funny face when she actually gets water out. I hope Autie is better for you tonight.
Sorry for anyone else that I missed, hope you and Bubba/s are doing well.
It was DH birthday yesterday, and he loved the canvas that I got printed. I got them to print it in sepia (which I love). It looks great up on the wall! And Aaron loved it. He thought it was a great Idea for a present (and something we both can enjoy)!
Well I am off, am pretty tired tonight, and need to express.
Have a good night all

MY LITTLE BABY HAS HIS FIRST TOOTH POKING THROUGH!!!
I think i might cry, he is really growing up! The poor thing, no wonder he was grumpy yesterday, gastro and teeth, what a trooper!!
-
Yey! Better sleep for us with only two wakings which is normal and much more manageable. Two happier girls today :)
Sara, yes I could freeze stuff and quite often do, I just haven't had time lately with Autie newly mobile and grumpy at the same time. My energy levels have been way down. DH actually said if we got a chest freezer he would stock it up for me with stuff he makes! What a loverly boy he is - now just have to find the freezer at the right price :) I actually bought Autie a $2.50 cheapo version of the stage 2 cup yesterday and she's great with it! Saved myself $14. Isn't sepia fantastic? Our camera can take shots in sepia and I definitely have a soft spot for it. It's a great idea for a present, I bet DH must have loved it!
Hey Mel, are you ok? Can't remember if you were going away or maybe you're just lurking. If so, hope all is well.
Zofia, hope you get rid of the nasties. I was expecting lots of ****roaches in this new house, but we've been very lucky so far - haven't seen one! We do have a million and one geckos, so maybe they are helping out.
Megan - YEY FOR LUCAS! How exciting for him to reach that milestone! Where is the tooth? Maybe he will be a happier boy for you now.
-
:dance:HAPPY BIRTHDAY VERONICA for yesterday!!!!
Tina - congratulations on your BFP!
Well, I just sat down to write a huge post and Olimoo has woken up after only 20 minutes sleep instead of his usual 1 or 2 hours.
BBL to finish but I bet I forget everything. LOL

Zy's cut a tooth too... I am really upset about it thogh, coz he is our last baby & now he's up on all 4's trying to crawl & I wont have a baby baby anymore.... never again!
-
Tina, yey a huuuugggggeeeee congrats to you. Sending you some very sticky vibes.
Sacha, thanks for thinking of me. Have just been very busy lately, my sis come down from Mt Isa to organise things for her wedding in May, so we have done that for the last 4 days, but all done now, well for a few months anyhow.
Will be back later to read back some more.
Just quickly though, DH is going away to Japan again on Sunday :(, but I surpose I should be happy it's only for 2 weeks this time. But still I'm not exactly happy. Oh well, crap happens. I guess sometime apart might be good anyhow.

Ok, here goes my second attempt!
Tracey - I hear you on the not having a baby baby anymore! Oliver hasn't cut a tooth and he is nowhere near crawling but he is our last also and I don't want him to grow up! He is sitting so well now and it is great but at the same time I am a little sad.
Mel - When are we going to organise that Brisbane/Gold Coast girls meet up? Or did I miss it? lol. How is the studying going?
Megan - that's so exciting about your little man's tooth! Oh the poor bugger though, being sick on top of teething! Hope he is getting better.
Blueflower - BFP is big fat positive. I wasn't on here while TTC either and oh my god I've had some funny moments working out what all the BB lingo was all about!
Starfish - that is amazing that Diana is using the potty. How do you know when she needs to go?
Well I took Oliver to the doctors on friday as I was worried about his hoarse voice. Doc looked at his throat and said it was a bit red and slightly swollen but nothing to worry about. His older brother has a croaky voice too now and sore throat so I guess it was something they picked up. Anyway, it wasn't my usual doctor, which was fine by me cause I was on the look out for a new one anyway. I talked to her about my concerns about Oliver still throwing up a lot. He has always been a spewy baby but lately it has gotten worse, actually, since he has started sitting up. She says he has reflux and it has been made worse cause when they do start to sit they are not straight so things get a bit squished up. He doesn't throw up food, just milk so that made her think reflux for sure. My other doctor has always told me to 'just keep an eye on it' - actually that's what she says about most things I ask her about! It annoys me. So he has actually had reflux this whole time. She prescribed some zantac to ease the vommiting but I am a bit reluctant. Has anyone here used it? I probably will start him on it but wanted to know if anyone else knows much about it first.
Other than that he is doing great! He has started to lean forward while sitting so he ends up on his tummy to try and reach for things that are too far away. So as far as the tummy time goes he is doing it himself now anyway.
Well he is still fast asleep so I better go and get some work done.
Hello to everyone! Hope you are all well and having a great day.

Raels - Tom has reflux (diagnosed at about 6 weeks - I love my doctor). He was put straight onto Losec which is abit stronger than Zantac, i think. He is a massive spewer. As far as i know, both Zantac and Losec dont actually stop the vomiting, they only ease the burning of the stomach acid so that when they do spew, its not painful. If he does have reflux, it could explain his sore throat - the acidy burning spews. I think Tracey's Zyon was on Zantac and maybe Mel's Jack too. They might be able to explain a bit more about it. In the relux section there is a great lady who posts named Scarlet and she is like a reflux guru. She might be able to give you some info.
OK - try to be back later. Just popped in to go to the cooking section to see if you can freeze avocado puree. Anyone here know? I love them - have some everyday for lunch but they go brown really quickly so was thinking i could mash and freeze..
Tom had his first swimming lesson today too!
-
Em- Add lemon juice to the avo and it stops it going brown- you could do this before you freeze it. HTH
-
Thanks Sara! I have just spent the arvo making baby food while T had a big sleep after his swimming lesson. I hate wasting avocado because they can be so expensive so i think i will freeze the leftovers - provided Tom likes it - just about to try some now. I pureed some apricots because i brought some today not realising they were $14 a kilo. 4 very small and expensive apricots!
I found a really good site today called wholesomebabyfood.com which has heaps of ideas on baby foods and how to cook them, and stuff about finger foods etc. I found it really useful because i am still totally clueless on this food thing!
-
Em- that was a great site thanks- had some good info as well- i think it was better than the ABA seminar i went to today- which didnt tell me anything I didnt already know
V you should chek it out- it explains in great detail why you cant give cows milk to bubs under 1- its in the baby food FAQ- dairy section.
-
Em - great baby food site, thanks for pointing it out.
Hi to everyone, I've been lurking, but haven't really had anything much to say. We had a bit of a scare this afternoon, Liam did a massive vomit, and then kept vomiting on and off for about 2 hours. After the first couple of voms, the milk was gone and we were down to bile. It was scary & very sad, but I got some gorgeous cuddles. Strangely, he has completely perked back up again, as if it didn't happen, and has kept the last feed down for a good couple of hours. Thank goodness he hadn't had carrots for lunch though:D
Speaking of solids, everyone's bubs seem to be doing really well, which is great. I'm having quite a challenge with my wee man, he just doesn't want to swallow at all, pretty much everything comes out the way it does in. When he does accidentally swallow, it's followed by enormous gagging, which I think scares him off from swallowing even more. It's strange, cos he doesn't seem to object to the tastes, but he just holds it in his mouth for a while, then blows raspberries to get it out. Which is funny, but a little frustrating. And he purses his lips so we have to kind of trick him into even opening his mouth. Does anyone else have these problems? If you have, have your bubs worked it out yet? If they have, how long before they did?
Sorry for the self indulgent post - next week I should be back to normal a bit more (well, my version of normal), b/c MIL flies home on the weekend, so I'll have the house & the baby back to myself, and thus more time to post..
-
Hi all,
yes 3 am is nasty, but I can manage it, it's a 5 am that buggers me up. I've tried giving him breakfast and he's just not interested. I'm considering asking them to introduce lunch for me at creche the only thin is I would like to introduce home made food, because I don't want him getting used to the jar stuff they will give him untill he's well and truley on solids.
Megan, glad you finally got an answer about Tom, and glad to hear he is feeling better and pooing less.
V, I hope you had a happy birthday, bugger about the breakie. Men, pfft, just because he wasn't hungry on your birthday. Just make sure your not hungry on his birthday :P
Wow, congrats Tina
Tracey, hugs, I'm sure he will always be your baby boy though.
Jan, xavier still pushes food out with his tongue sometimes, yet still manages to eat quite a bit of it. I did meat a lot of objection one day when the sweet potato wasn't qquite runny enough.
Sara, that baby food site looks pretty good, I am yet to have a good look though.
Well we finally reached 6 months old yesterday, lol think it might be time for a new pic, although he doesn't look drastically different. We tried zuchini tonight, 2 spoons in I wasn dealling with a tight lipped sooky sooky lah lah. So the zuchini is being put away and might introduce it mixed with something else later like potato.
I gave xavier some frozen pear in one of those feeder things tonight, and he loved it heaps, but I think he might have got a brain freeze, 'cause he started screaming after about 5 mins.
Well best be off, hope all are well,
-
Just a quick question...when i was on that food site Em found (thanks!) it said that after you put food in ice-cube trays to put a freezer bag around it, i didn't do that do you reckon the food in the trays is still ok???
-
Megan - I don't do the freezer bag thing. I just wrap the ice cube tray in glad wrap a few times. Seems fine to me. I think I might invest in some of those trays with the lids though. Wonder if they are expensive.
Em - great site, thanks for that! Oh and regarding the reflux, Oliver has never seemed to be in any pain from it. I have started him on the zantac and I will check out that thread.
Rebecca - HAPPY 6 MONTHS TO XAVIER!! And well done with continuing the breastfeeding while working. I really admire that. Oliver wasn't too keen on the zucchini so yep, I mix it in with his potato. Yellow squash is a good one to try, not as strong as zuchinni.
I started Oliver on some chicken last night. I made a mixture of it with potato, carrot and brocolli. It made so much!!!!!
-
Gee its a ghost town in here! Just popped in to tell you all we had a solid poo today!!!!!!!
-
Good for Lucas. It's funny what excites us with kids. My DD oftens gets blocked up and when we have that first soft poo, it's like YEY YEY YEY!!
Hey, has anyones baby started to gummy bit their nipples? Jack the little bugger started biting me yesterday, he looks at me while he does it, like he is playing, little bugger. It really hurts, he pulls out about an inch, nearly sends me through the roof. Maybe he thinks my reaction is funny. How do you think I should get him to stop?
-
Yeah I have been getting the gummy bites as well . Gee they hurt dont they! Charlotte seems to be smiling at me whenever she does it - very cheeky. I dont know how to stop it - I am hoping it is just a stage she is going through and she will stop soon.
-
hi all,
megan I wouldn't worry too much about not covering your ice cube trays. it would be to a stop other foods contaminating and to prevent freezer burn. If storing for the long term I would take them out of the tray and store in containers or zip lock bgs just 'cause they will last longer.
raels you can get what is called a solids starter kit, just at the supermarket, for $20-30 you get 2 trays with lids, good quality too. sounds exp at first, but i can see myself using them for many years.
I am very proud of myself for still feeding. I think i have been lucky and found what works for us.
mel, xavier used to do that with nipples, not sure why, and it was a while ago that he was doinig it so i have no idea what you can do to stop him.
All i could suggest is sticking you finger in their mouths and prying them off so they realise boobies are taken away when that happens.
-
I have heard that if you do a really big exaggerated shocked reaction with a loud noise and cross face, it can deter them. Haven't had to try it myself yet.
-
Re babies biting nipples - Diana was doing this recently to the point that I rang the ABA. The lady I spoke to said that the biting could be due to the fact that bub is really hungry and let down is not happening fast enough, so they bite down in frustration. She suggested I stimulate the breast, prior to giving it to Diana so that let down happens faster. It seemed to work, so maybe you could try that. Also, the saying firmly "no", then taking the breast away may work too.
Raels - re potty training - I put Diana on the potty straight after she wakes up from a nap. Sometimes if she seems unsettled for no clear reason, I put her on the potty too. So its a bit hit and miss re trying to work out when she needs to go. (I got most annoyed with DH today as he didn't put her on the potty after her nap, and when I changed her nappy afterwards, there was poo in it, so she had clearly needed to go. :wall:)
Sara - thanks for the link to the food site.
Hi to everyone else. :)
I took Diana to a local playgroup this morning. It was at our early childhood centre. I went in to get Diana weighed and measured (she's 68.5cm and 7.4kg ), and found that the playgroup was on. So she got to play with lots of toys and met some new babies. It was good, as I missed our mother's group yesterday (it was disgusting weather so didn't feel like going out), and then felt kind of guilty for taking Diana away from her playmates. So now that she got to play today I feel better. The CHN said that Diana is doing really well, so very happy with that.

Hi!
Hope all the mums and bubs are well!
Lucas is healthy and happy. He is going well on solids and is loving dried apple rings at the moment. He is not crawling but is close to sitting (so his paed said anyway) and he finally started rolling since my last post. I'm back to uni this year and I ended up taking that position at my old highschool. The offer was too good to refuse. I'm only commiting myself to a couple of days a week so far as I love being a SAHM too much.
Sacha ~ Happy 7 months to Autie, wow!
Emma ~ That is a great site. I also like how they include the nutritional values of all the foods and the most current warnings on foods too.
Jan ~ Hope Liam is still well. What does he do when you let him feed himself? I know with Lucas there is a point where when he?s had enough, he will start gagging if I try and give him more. I?m not sure why this happens, whether he is just full and gets distracted from swallowing or just his bodies way of saying I don?t need anymore. But if I cover the spoon with some food and let him feed himself he will have more and swallow it ok. So a smidge of food on his spoon for him to hold might help him with the idea of eating.
Megan ~ How is Lucas today? If you take the food cubes out you can label and date them too, and so you know whats what. I think it takes up a lot less room too if you are making up huge batches. I wrap in cling wrap until they freeze and I get around to taking them out though.
Sacha ~ Happy 7 months to Autie, wow!
Tina ~ Congrats:bfp:
V ~ Happy birthday for last Sunday. Naughty DH, first birthday breakfast as his wife and he blew it, I?d be making him feel really guilty over that one and insisting on a romantic dinner to make up for it.

Thanks August - I didn't notice actually! (Bad mum, bad bad mum) Too tired from the one and half hours of screaming we had at 3.30 this morning. Better be a tooth on the way....grrrrr Nice to see you back BTW and congrats on your new job.
Just to put my two cents worth in about the frozen food - I found that if i use the large bags big enough to fit the whole tray in, I can then just empty them out into the bag from inside the bag IFYKWIM and they're ready to put straight back in the fridge (after you take the empty tray out of course) It works well if you're lazy like me LOL AND you can even fit two trays in them, so you can fill up a whole bag if you don't mind different things being together, or you have a lot of one thing.

Time for a new thread
