Jessikah, I go & have a shower when Zyon screams for longer than I can cope with, or I go check the mail box.. You do need a breather from the crying & babies wont hurt themselves from crying. Pop him in his bed & tell him you love him, but you just need a break...
Usually when I am outta the shower dried & dressed Zyon is either happily gurgling to himself, or fast asleep & I get a break, enough to deal with him if he starts screaming again..
I have found some cooled boiled water in a bottle helps him heaps with wind pain, if you havent tried that already?
I wear him in the hug a bub heaps to, popping Indah in the pram & as soon as I start walking he's asleep & if we get home from a walk & he's asleep I just leave him in it til he wakes up..

I hope he settles soon, trust me it will not last long (once your on the otherside of the unsettledness)....

Zyon slept from 8pm til 12:30, but woke at 3am had a quick feed & slept til 7am, he is in bed again now...
He is usually unsettled from 5pm, til he has his bath around 7:30, but we just sing & jiggle him!!!

Jessikah - I so hope that Ethan has settled down for you finally and that the sleep fairy has been kind. I think it's really really normal to feel frustrated at them when they just keep crying & you've tried everything, because, as my mum says, the crying just tears at your heartstrings unbelievably, and it also messes with your head after a while. We had a bad night last night too (although nothing like your bad day), and when Pat walked in from work he didn't even get a chance to get changed before I'd handed Liam over to him, I just had to have a break from holding him. I then sat in a chair with my head in my hands for about 5 minutes, trying to calm myself down too. Hopefully whatever was upsetting Ethan has resolved, and the self settling returns. Anyway, big hugs to you. :hugs:

you might find the unsuttled bubs will do a huge power poo, I know Zyon gets all raggy & then does a poo from neck to ankles & then is happy....???????

    hey

looks like there are a lot of unsettled babies around!! avaleigh is one of them. She was crying and crying last night and the only way i could settled her was walking round the house bouncing!! my legs got tired after a while so i had to stop. I ended up giving her a feed about 2 hrs after her last one cause she was a little bit hungry and that helped her go to sleep. She's been crying this morning too so we went out for a walk and nearly got blown away! im holding her now and she is falling asleep.

tracey - my mum has told me to try a little bit of cooled boiled water. do you just give that to him after a feed and with every feed?/

avaleigh has a stinky nappy i think but she's finally got her eyes closed!

V, If I have fed him & he has fallen asleep, but wont settle, like keeps crying once put down, I offer him some cooled boiled water in a slow flowing teat & he drinks about 10-20ml... He does a massive burp & settles down...?

They go through so many various stages etc...

    hi all,

jessikah, i'm glad your mum arrived, she must have been using her mum senses and new you needed her. glad you got a break even if it was just 15 mins.

i have gone outside once or twice while Xavier cried, to hang washing or weed garden etc i felt a whole lot better after it.

we are a little unsettled yesterday and today, although i still feel like i'm getting off easy, lots of cluster feeding, almost 4 weeks old so must be time for a spurt.

i feel really guilty saying this but last night xavier slept from 11pm-5am, and then went back to sleep at 6am till 9. i got up at 8.30 felt like i had a sleep in.

Don't feel guilty Rebecca - that's fantastic that Xavier is sleeping so well *hugs*

Jessikah, I just want to send over some big hugs you poor bubba. It's tough at the best of times sometimes. I'm glad that u have your mum there to help u out *hugs*

Well Alessia and I are surviving on our own today - David went back to work today Only 2.5 hrs til he's home. Alessia has been really clingy today. She only wants to sleep in my arms which is unusual 4 her. I don't mind - it just means I have to type a lot slower!

Rebecca, must have been a good night for sleeping for Xavier and Jack. Jack slept from 9:30pm until 6am. I couldn't believe my eyes when I looked at the clock this morning when he begun to stir. Must have been stuffed, poor little bugger.

Jessikah, I hope your having a better day today. How is Ethan going?

Veronca, sounds like little Avaleigh might be going through a growth spurt. I have found Jack to be similiar when he is going through growth spurts. I think that is why he is sleeping better ATM, I think he has just finished one.

Tracey, LOL at Zyons explosions. Charlize used to be the same, but Jack doesn't seem to store them up and let them rip, he is more of a what goes in, comes straight out kinda kid.

Janno, hope your having a good day too.

    Hi to everyone.

Must go some little miss is being just that ATM.

    Good Afternoon Ladies

Well its all over...Ethan is back to being a happy little boy!! Atm he is laying next to me in his pram, awake and not screaming I managed to get him settled and asleep in his bed at 1.30am and he slept for 3.5hrs, which is his normal and i thought phew he is back to himself, he went back to sleep at 6.30am and he woke up at 12.30!!! He slept for 6 HRS and only stirred once about 10.30 but went back to sleep by himself!!...i nearly had a heart attack, lol the longest he has slept for is just over 3.5 hrs. He was starving and gulped his milk down like a little piglet but he parted with his wind beautifully.

Thankyou all for your support, it really helped me get through reading all your kind words and advice. If ethan could type he would probably thankyou for helping his mum stay sane!!

Now i can even do some personals as the little prince is almost in the land of zzz's again, i dont want to speak to soon but i think maybe we are going to have a wonderful day.

Mel - Wow @ Jacks big sleep, thats great. Ethan was like jack when he was b/f "what went in came straight back out" but now with the f/f he stores them up and i wonder how such a small baby can have so much poo!!

Fran - Thanks hun I too am glad yours and alessia's first day on your own is going well, its a bit daunting when they first go back to work! How did your appt go with the MCHN yesterday? Has alessia gained some weight? I had to comp feed with Ethan b/c the CHN said that he was not sleeping properly because there wasnt enough goodness in my breast milk and he was feeding but wasnt getting enough, but i wish i hadnt b/c two days later he refused to have my breast milk funny thing was my m/w's said i had lovely rich milk!! Im sure if you do have to comp feed, you will have better luck than me, and everyone's different

Bec - Yes, dont feel guilty, its really good that xavier sleeps well. I felt the same way today, i was like OMG i have a 5wk old baby and im still asleep at lunch time!! It was great.

Tracey - Boiled water works well with ethan sometimes too, he drink 10 to 20mls also, i give him some water once a day to make sure he doesn't have to much trouble with his poo's being on formula, and i give it too him to help with his wind before i try infants friend. Ethan doesn't do the huge poo after being unsettled but sometimes when he gets really worked up, he farts like crazy he sounds like a man sometimes not a little boy lol.

Veronica - Sorry to hear avaleigh has been unsettled as well, i know what you mean by sore legs, i had to pace the hallway for a few hrs yesterday and lastnight, but hey at least were getting some exercise!! Dont you hate it when they fill there nappy when they have just gone to sleep, a few times when i was still b/f ethan i would put him in his cot and i would just be walking out the door and he would do a poo!! Now i just hear him on the monitor grunting and groaning, trying to do one!!

Jan - Sorry to hear that liam was unsettled too. Hugs to you. It gets quite tough at times doesn't it. i agree with your mum that the crying pulls at your heart strings, seeing ethan cry so much yesterday made me so sad. And after awhile it really does mess with your head, after ethan finally went to sleep lastnight i was sure i could still hear him crying, but he was sound asleep hope today is a better day.

Well im going to go and enjoy a nice shower while ethan is still sleeping beautifully. Hope you all have a good afternoon. Thanks again

Tracey i just looked at your pics, Zyon is gorgeous!!

    Hi Lovely Ladies!
Hope you don't mind me crashing but my little man Hamish is a July bub and I noticed MUMMY MEL seems to be having some similar probs with her bundle Jack. Hamish started passing blood and mucus in his stools at about 3 weeks and a sample was taken to rule out a bacterial infection which left us with Breastmilk Colitis as a possible cause-- this can be linked to lactose intolerance. He was in quite a bit of pain as well and although with changes to my diet the pains seem to have subsided he is still passing blood and mucus and also has frothy poos at times. I like MEL don't want to stop b/f'ing so am hoping we have some kind of breakthrough soon. I'm off all dairy, seafood, nuts and strawberrys (basically anything tasty). So anyhoo it would be nice to chat to someone with similar issues and same age bubs.
    Chat soon .

Hi hope, has Hamish been tested for lactose intolerance? The bloody stools sounds scarey, Jack has never had blood in them, that must have been scarey to see it first time around, I guess it still must be scarey though. Are they still testing him to find out what is causing it or are you just monitoring what your consuming to see if there is a link?

Well we just got the confirmation tonight from my doc that Jack is Lactose Intolerant. But on the bright side, now we know what it is we can treat it.. So it's it's soy for me and no sugar from here on in, as well as some lactaid drops for Jack. Hopefully this is enough to control it, cause if it's not he has to go onto lactose free formula. We also have to be observant too over the next few weeks, as it was left untreated for 2 months could have cause his bowles some damage. I feel terrible I let it go so long, but at the same time I'm annoyed at the MCHN for firstly telling me it was colic then dismissing all my concerns about his poos and pains even after the colic relief mixtures, oh well I guess she wasn't to know.

Jessikah, so glad to hear you had a good day today. Fingers crossed tomorrow is the same.

Blueflower, I used to love to put Charlize in headbands with flowers or bows on them. But she had no hair (still doesn't) but maybe a little clip would look cute, I'm still waiting to use clips.

Tracey, he is so cute. I love his outfits, he looks like a little rockstar!!!

So, fingers crossed once I get the drops tomorrow and stock up on some soy products we will be all good soon.

Oh and BTW it's back to open houses and inspections for us, the contract offered has fallen though I HATE CLEANING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    HI all,

Fran, I hope you made it through the day ok. the first day is really hard. I didn't get much sleep in the first 2 days nathan was back at work and it made me cry, so it sounds like your doing better than I did.

Mel, Yay for jack sleeping. you lucky thing. while the lactose intolerance isn't great, it must be comforting to know what is wrong now. I hope the measures your using helps and you don't have to resort to formula. poor little tacker. Poor mummy, no yummy food

Tracey, I love your pics, esp the smiley one. He looks so happy!!

Jessikah, woo hoo on the sleep. He must of been really tired!! I hope he does that at night for you next.

Welcome hope and hamish, fingers crossed you find out what is wrong and that hamish starts getting better soon.

Sara, good luck with the photo shoot. A little clip like mel said would be cute, but you could go to town and spunk her up with some spikes

I've noticed that Xavier is getting more mummy orientated, ie settling is easier for me (sometimes) and I think Nathan is getting a little disheartened. I asked him if he wanted a cuddle this arvo, and he said, "but he'll just start crying" it made me sad, but I told nathan to not be silly and gave xavier to him. Has anyone else experienced this.

Well wishing everyone lots and lots of sleep tonight!

Rebecca- I had the same with aaron- the first three days he went back to work, when he came home Kaetlyn was really upset, and he was upset he couldnt play around with her, causse all she wanted to do was sleep- she cried.
Luckily he now has four days of to spend a lot of time with her (but then he is workin 7 days stright, so that is going to be abummer for me and him).

I must admit also that when aaron is at work, Kaetlyns nappy does not get changed as much- I just forget to do it, whereas aaron is more poractive in doing it as he cant feed her-its like its his job that he does for her

    Hi everyone,

Lucas Jay born 22/7/07 5lb 12oz@36+2 wks. He was due in August, hence the august_moon_mum!

Congrats for all the July births

Lucas is great and we have been very lucky when it comes to settling and sleeping. Lucas had gastroschisis and spent the first 3 weeks in NICU so he got used to being fed, wrapped and put down to sleep, this has carried over to being at home...for now.

kungfubecca, I hear you on the mummy orientated thing. DP looks disheartened when bubs settles easier with me.

Congrats again on all your beautiful bubs,

    Mel
