Babies Born July 2007 #8

Megan - she settles back to sleep at night no problem if i feed her. I have not had any regular luck with daytime naps using any method of resettling. sometimes she goes back with just a kiss on the head, sometimes if i pick her up and rock her, but usually just not at all. tonight she has had six false starts to bedtime, sleeping then waking then being rocked, then sleeping etc. If I leave her, she wakes herself up more and starts getting frantic with trying to suck the sheet or her clothes which she can't actually do. Then she starts clawing at her face and hair. If she would take a dummy, she would find it a lot easier I think. Oh well, I expect we'll muddle through until we get to another good spell...then the teeth will start, I imagine :)

Mel- I bet it's nice to be a bit more settled. I hope you're all happy in your new house.

omg i feel like i've missed so much - every time i jump on to quickly catch up something else pops up so i'll just do a quick one and then just go from there

Nicky - Michael was the same way and my child health nurse told me to keep persisting with the bf (in fact she was almost nazi like - bf the best, ff the devil) but we seemed to be constantly struggling EVERY HOUR and his weight gain seemed to drop off also that i just snapped one day and bought my first tin of formula and never looked back - michaels weight gain picked up, he was much happier (and so was i) and that was when he started sleeping through the night (scared me the first couple of nights) - i continued to express for a while but even that became a struggle - when i got the courage to tell my health nurse what we'd done she was almost mortified until she realised i literally had nothing to give him - hope this helped but do what you feels right - just remember we are not alone.....

Michael rolled over completely for the first time the other day and during tummy time he held his entire upper body up for almost five minutes checkin out the world from this new perspective he thought it was great - i was killin myself laughing watchin him - and we went for our first swim on sunday at our local waterpark - little skeptical at fist but soon loved it - he looked so trendy in his little body suit - unfortuently df is away at the mo so he missed it so we get to do it all over again next week :dance:

Well this is so unheard of in our house, and will probably end any minute. But Xavier is still asleep, it's after 8am, and he went to bed at 8pm last night. Whoa I dare not wake him, because I want him to rest up and ditch this cold. although I have it now too :lol: the first of many things he will share.

I am a bit zombie like atm as i have just not been able to sleep, Ethan is just starting to stir now but has slept for 6.5hrs!! (this has not happened in such a long time :clap:) And i have been up and down all night, grrr! But im in a pretty good mood so that ok. Im going to attempt some personals.

Nicky- :hugs: Sorry to hear your having tough time at the moment, poor you and little lach :( Have to tell you though that You have definately done an amazing job getting this far, you should be proud of yourself, Well done! Please dont be to hard on yourself if you have to switch to ff though. Hope you get sorted and settled real soon hun. Goodluck with it all. Oh and ouchies re the stitches.

Jem- Happy for you hun that DH has arrived home again! Its great when they return isn't it. My DH is still 4days away, he is not a great help when he is home but i really look foward to adult conversation and an undisturbed shower (until the water goes cold:D!!)

Mel- Glad the new house is going well and your are all settled, its great that Charlize likes it too. Good luck with Jacks needles today. Time does fly doesn't it and they grow so quickly.

Michaels mum- YAY @ michael rolling over completely, clever little boy:clap: It sounds like you had a lovely time swimming. My mum got Ethan a little pair of speedo's, they are so little, still too cold to go swimming here atm though and i dont think they will fit him if he keeps growing at this rate!

Bec- WOW thats a great sleep for xavier!! Just what he needs to beat the cold. Sorry to hear that you have it too.

Things here have been hectic this week too, but will hopefully settle by the weekend, my mum has offered to have ethan for a few hours on the weekend so i can have a few solid hours sleep, im seriously considering taking her up on the offer! My washing machine chucked a tanty at the beginning of last week now i have loads of washing to do so thats on my To Do list today. Had to go for physio and another x-ray of my coccyx as the pain is still unbearable some days and i cant sit, unfortunately since the swelling around it went away it moves alot and has caused it to be even more bent and the only thing is to take pain killers, but i dont want to! I think i will be back to the drs next week as i cant eat without feeling sick, the only meal i can eat is breakfast and feel fine.

Ethan Laughed on wednesday for the very first time!! I was so excited then i got emotional and had a little teary moment in the shopping centre:redface: Was the most beautiful sound and melted my heart....hasn't done it since though!! Hopefully he will do it when DH is home. Also he is never quiet..LOL he talks all the time, at mothers group on monday we were trying to listen to a guest speaker and he started talking and we all lost concentration as it was so funny all the other bubba's were asleep or quiet!! He has started laying in bed talking for about 10 - 15mins when he wakes up to, so i just lay there for a bit as occasionally he will go back to sleep.

Well i must go as Ethan is still asleep....Just over 7hrs now!! YAY this is so rare:dance: I will make the most of this time and enjoy a lovely warm shower and get started on the washing.

Tears of Joy - i was wondering if anyone else had coccyx trouble but kept forgetting to ask. I have been going to the osteopath for weeks but its not improving, god its nearly been 4 months you would think it would be better! The osteo has now recommended acupuncture which i am a bit scared of but am at the point that i will try anything as i am sick of not being able to sit down or get up without pain. Maybe i need to have an xray to check it out properly. Can you give me some details about what you have been told? I am glad Ethan gave you a good sleep!

Jo -well done to Michael on the rolling! We have gone from front to back but not the reverse yet, although he is getting alot of air!!

Sacha - You must be pulling your hair out! Maybe it is time to try some sort of controlled crying/comforting before it becomes too much of a habit. It is hard listening to them cry but the nurses at the settling class i went to tolerate a lot more than i would so it made me feel better to know that in the long run it was for everyones good. Within only a few days of following the same procedure we were able to put Lucas down awake without a fuss. Previous to that he would scream blue murder. Let me know if you want the details of the Tweddle procedure for this age. Totally up to you though.

Well i am off to mothers group! Lucas just woke after 35 minutes but i have just listened to him talk for 15 and now its quiet! He always puts himself back to sleep when we need to go out, never when i want him to! But he is still a spunk!!

Tracey, I've been trying to get a chance to squirt milk up Xaviers nose, but he wriggles too much now, and I'm un-coordinated. I gave him ebm last night, but forgot to send some of it up his nose.

Nicki, yeah it has gone fast in retrospect huh? Lol I just had my first wedding anniversary on the weekend. 1st one is paper and Nathan made me some Origami tulips. Hmm, I'm pretty sure Xavier was conceived on the 3rd or 4th of November, any who he will be 3 months on sat so hows that for timing.
I'm sorry to hear you guys are having a tough time. Have you tried taking different foods out of your diet to see if it helps?
When it all comes down to it at the end of the day, you both need to be happy, and you have done really well. Do you keep your ebm?
While not to the extent of lachlan, Xavier sometimes does the suck and scream so I take him off and sit him up for a while until he tells me he is ready to go back. a couple of time lately switching to the other boob has worked for me too, seems he's been playing favorites. But seriously it sounds like you have tried everything, and there is nothing wrong with switching to formula all the time. It's very important to keep mum sane.

Jemima, I'm glad your hubby is back. Thursday night we only got about 8 hours from him, :lol: I'm not complaining though that's still good. But last night, as I said earlier we got 12 hours. Certainly helped. The crazy period, tell me about it, we are sooo busy at the moment. I have a white board with all the things I have to attend or I forget now.

Sara, that is a pickle, 'cause you just want them to have a proper sleep. I hope she improves. Xavier loves the TV, I don't think I could cope with turning it off, it keeps him quite :lol: smack smack I'm a naughty mummy

Megan, I was just thinking this morning I might need Xavier to wake at 6 am for when I go back to work, so I have time to get both of us ready with feeding etc. Then after sleeping right through I started thinking if he did that all the time when I'm working I won't see him except at morning and night feed. So now my goal is to encourage a 7am rise, however that means I will still have to get up at 6am, so I can shower and dress and eat etc.
I think they arrange their sleep to inconvenience us. Usually when i want to go out, all he does is sleep, and then I don't want to wake him.

Em, good luck with the wrapping. It sounds like he didn't know what he wanted. We were kind of lucky. My mil put him in bed one night because he fell asleep on her, and he wasn't wrapped, and he slept longer than usual, and i just stopped wrapping him.

Jan well done on your surprise bargain. I saw those toys in the catalogue the other day. Was thinking of going and getting some, but I really have to stop spending money. Xavier will just have to live with the toys he has until Christmas.

Jessikah, I hope you get longer than 7 hours of sleep. Yay for a laugh. :lol: I still look at Xavier in disbelief that his mine (that only happens when he's happy, when his sad there is no mistaken his mine).

Well now I have to say sorry. After going through and reading all your posts and all the sleeping troubles people are having it makes me feel guilty. Esp having our 12 hours last night. But being sick as well it was just what I needed. I get a little kick out of nathan waking in the morning and asking when he woke up (yes he sleeps through it) and having the joy of telling him he hasn't yet.

Better go, It's taken me a while to do this, and Xavier has been very good playing under a play gym, then falling asleep and then waking up and playing again. Better go pay him some attention.

baby massage is great after the bath it's also a cue they can use for knowing after my massage i get some food & then a nice LONG sleep!!! LOL

Just a quick post as a show I watch is about to start just wanted to say Nicky Noah didn't have reflux but I went through the same experiences as you with feed Noah wasn't putting on weight so I was having to top Noah up with formula and in the end I made to choice to ff. I'm not trying to say u should give up and bf is great but as Noah started feeding again but then my supply was low then I asked the CHN/LC if Noah would still get all the benefits of bf if I fed him as much as I could and then topped him up with formula when needed and she said that babies pretty much need to be exclusively bf to get the benefits. That made it a lot easier for me when I eventually made the decision to ff because I knew after everything I had tried that I couldn't exclusively bf due to supply.

If you do decide to ff you will know that u have done everything u can and I know it is tough because I never ever even considered that I would ff and I wanted to bf 4 12 months but thats not the way it happenednext time it might b different but I am happy about my decision although I felt guilty and a bit embarrassed for a while I can now completely enjoy my time with Noah in the beginning everytime I thought about bf I was a bit anxious and making up a bottle felt me feel bad too but now I know I'm doing the best thing for my son. Haven't posted in a while as I have been busy writing my final uni assignment for the year. I handed it in last night, which feels like a huge relief. Send me your good vibes so that I pass without having to re-submit it. :pray:

On the home front, we have finally put Diana's newly painted cot together. I will try putting her to sleep in it tonight and will post some photos of it too.

Diana is doing well. She has started sleeping through the night, which is great. :) She has also started giggling and laughing. It is so cute when she does it. And she has worked out that if she pulls the handle on her mobile, music starts to play. What a clever girl! She seems to be consciously grabbing and holding things too.

I am getting married on Tuesday, so am getting excited, but also nervous at the amount of things that need to be organised (and this is only a very small registry office affair!). I just found out that one of my best friends, who originally couldn't make it can come after all, so that's great.

Nicky - sorry to hear that you are having sucha tough time bfing. I think everyone is giving you great advice. Hope that things improve for you soon, whichever way you decide to go. :hugs: And yes, I was thinking recently that it was around this time that last year that Diana was conceived. I haven't had AF for over a year :dance:. (Hope this post doesn't jinx me so that she comes back tomorrow or something.)

Mummy Mel - YAY on your house move and on Jack and Charlee liking it. Must be such a relief. Moving is stressful at the best of times, let alone with two little ones. Must be so great will all the extra space.

Sacha - this is from the Tweddle brochure for babies up to 6 months old

Place drowsy but awake baby into cot and leave room
If starts to cry wait 20-30 sec
Enter room and commence settling techniques with baby on back - one hand on chest and patting hip
If baby doesn't respond turn to face away from you, roll back once settled or deeply asleep
If crying continues after about 20 minutes pick baby up, calm her, wait for tired cues and try again!

We could never go 20 minutes! They suggest to just go as long as you can tolerate and when they are on the down part of a cry stick the dummy in and see if that works. At the start we only got to a couple of minutes before the dummy went in! Only ever got to about 10 minutes of crying and had to pick up! A good test is to see if she stops crying when you pick her up, if she does then you know there was nothing really wrong she is just protesting. Keep in mind the nurses tolerate a lot of real screaming which helped me to know i wasn't being a bad mother!

Anyway, do what you think is best for your bub!! You know her the best and everyone is different.

Hi everyone, I trust you are all having lovely weekends. Mine is divine so far. Both kids have been asleep not for nearly 3 hours. Just wish I knew it was going to happen and I would have had a sleep too. Oh well, I have got heaps done instead.

We had Jacks needles yesterday and I got my first of the cerival cancer vaccine done too. Oucchhyyy:cry:, I think Jack was braver than I was. We had both kids weighed. Charlee is down to 9.9kg now, and Jack is now 7.7kg. It won't be long until he over takes her. But I guess once he gets up and about he will slow down too. I'm still a little worried about Charlize losing weight, but the hospital said give her until her next needles (which is in a month), to see what her weight is doing then. I guess I have nothing to worry about, but you know us mums we still do!!!!!

A_M_M- we got the Tolo Baby safety gates. Mainly for three reasons. The first was because the price, alot cheaper than the other, second was because we liked the look better, and third was because it self closes. I think they are only $99 with two extensions included. There are so many to choose from though, it can do your head in:wall:

I won't be happy if he doesn't !!! I have been meaning to let you know too. I have found somethings that seem to be working for Charlees exzema. Well there are a few things, but altogether it seems to be under control. I'm using a cream called XMA, after her baths, and bathing her in Bicarb Soda, and using OMO sensitive washing detergent. I don't know if it is just one of these that is doing the trick, but I don't dare stop one for her sake to find out, I'd prefer to stick with what we have going. How is the boys exzema going?

Sacha, let us know how you go with the settling routine, I'm curios to know.

Jessikah, I almost cried when I read that Ethan had laughed for the first time. I know after how much you have been through, how much it would have meant to you to hear that. I hope your tailbone gets better soon, it does sound very painful you poor thing. And I would definately take your mum up on that offer to take Ethan so you can get some sleep, is she available to have my two aswell:lol:

Hi mel - how wonderful having the kids sleep at the same time for so long!! I know when that happens to me I end up wasting my time as I keep expecting them to wake at any moment! IKWYM about Marty - he has to go NOW!! I think that Martys mum must have a huge phone bill. Jacks weight gain is great and I am sure Charlize is fine but as you said us mums will worry - at least it is only a month unti you can have her checked again. Are you all unpacked?? Brave you haing a needle LOL!! I dont know much about the cervical cancer vaccine but who is it recommended for? Am I too old to have it??

I just though I'd share this - Diana cut her first tooth today - bottom right. She was a bit sooky this morning and I was beginning to get a bit annoyed with her. I put my finger in her mouth, as I sometimes do to see if she is hungry and felt a little hard tooth. So exciting. Hope she doesn't start biting though... :)

Hi everyone...sounds like you are all doing well which is great! Way too many posts for me to catch up on but thought I would just pop in and say a quick hello before Alessia wakes up for her next feed. We had her Pixi Fotos taken today and they are so cute!!! *shriek* We spent way too much $$$$ but she's only 3 months old once in her life :) Other than that today, we're travelling along nicely still - getting on average 8 hrs of sleep a night which is great. I just need to remember to go to bed at a decent hour! Enjoy the weekend everyone!!!

Megan - thanks heaps for the info. I actually had such a crap night last night that I woke up determined to do something about it, and what I had planned was basically what you described! Anyway, she has gone down for all her naps today in her bed, though it took about half an hour each time, and I had to stay with her - I wasn't able to leave her to cry except for once at the beginning. My intention is to work up to that over the coming days as she gets more used to being in the bed awake. She actually had an hour and half nap this arvy which is unheard of. Tonight took longer, about an hour of alternating settling, sleeping, crying until she finally stayed asleep. I guess the test is how we both go during the night! But with DH away for two out of every three weeks, I just can't afford to not get some decent sleep as there's no-one to give me even a short extra sleep now and then.
I'm interested to know where this method comes from exactly, and whether you know the one for babies over 6m?

Sacha ~ :hug:Hope you had a better night last night. I think when Lucas started sleeping in his cot we were just persistant that he was to stay in there because it was bedtime. I didnt time or anything just went by the sound of his crying and would keep going in to comfort him until he gave in. Now he gets cranky if he's not put in bed at bedtime so our persistance has paid off. Lucas has a dummy though so this probably makes a difference too.

Well we have had a pretty cruisey weekend, we looked after our nephew last night and also we got a new car. It's a big family station wagon and its great, no more squeezing everything into a little two door car anymore!

O hmy gish, I am so jelous of the bubs that go to bed in the cot easily. Kaetlyn has no trouble sleeping at all, its just when we put her down to sleep in her cot at night she screams blue murder. In the morning she is okay and will chat herself to sleep. during the day she sleeps in the rocker in the lounge room fine. I cant comlpain though, as once she is alseep and I put her in the cot, she is fine and can resettle herself.

Well everyone, our furniture is arriving today. So I will be able to sleep downstairs with the kids now, I nearly fell down the stairs two night ago, when I went to feed Jack. We decided we will sleep downstairs in the spare room until the kids a little older, then we can have seperate parents and kids quaters, he he he. Charlize butterfly bed also arrived on friday. But DH wants to wait until the new carpet in laid until we put it together, but of course I want to put it together earlier. I also ordered some lightening McQueen stickers for Jacks room. I can't wait for them to arrive, finally his room might feel like a little boys room. He is still sleeping the the bassinet insert in the portacot as Charlee is still using the cot, which is why I want to set up her bed asap, so she can make the transition earlier.

Oh I wanted to tell you, a friend of mine, his wife had their first child on Saturday afternoon after her waters breaking on Friday morning, 15 days over her due date. He weighed in at a massive 9pd 10oz. I couldn't believe they let her go so long over her due date as well as so long after her waters breaking. But they were in the natural birthing suites, so they must be more relaxed in there. But all is well with him, they called him Eli, which is unusual very biblical but I really like it.

Anyway must be off, got lots to do (as usual).

Because mine hasn't come back yet, every time I have a hard day with BF, I remind myself to hold on to help stave of AF as long as possible. Wow a tooth, well they had to come sooner or later huh? I hope she doesn't bit you too. Apparently, so I've heard you need to let her know it hurt, like a bit of a yelp or something, enough to shock her, and she might not do it again. Fingers crossed for you she doesn't bite at all.

Sacha, I had never actually heard the tweedle info before, but it seems I have been doing what megan listed for a few months,but have never gone more than about 5 mins of screaming. (Xavier has what I like to call a point of no return scream, and there is no calming down from it). We are getting some really good sleeps at the moment. I did find with xavier that patting him distracts him, and he is now at the point where he can pull his dummy out with his hand and push my hand away from putting the dummy in. So I hold his hands and he grabs my fingers, and once he gets sucking it is good. We also make a shh noise from the moment I enter the room to the moment i leave the room. However if he isn't calm he won't take the dummy, and it is the sucking of the dummy that seems to calm him. Hope our experiences have helpd

Mel, I would love to enjoy some of the sleep for you, but I don't think I'm getting as much as I should during that time. I'm either coughing half the night or waking up with engorged bb's so very restless sleep for me.

Mel and Jem, I think you will be happy tonight. I'm predicting it will be marty's last day. Imagine ruining a perfectly good doors song and then trying to pass it off as big band, besides the girl did too well last night, the little fella has all the little girly votes and surely carl is getting lots of mum votes.

Fran, I hear you on the remembering to go to bed at a decent hour, although I am starting to get really tired and regardless of the time as soon as I do put my head down within minutes I fall asleep. I never used to be able to do that.

amm, yay on the new car, that must be great to not have to try and get a bubs out of a 2 door car. I've always told nathan I don't like 2 door cars, and that if there is a seat in the back it should have a door to get to it.

Hi Leah - i love the name Ella. I recently joined in with this group too and it is great.

Well, our weekend was nice. Spent Saturday watching the horse races on tv with Tom - he just loves them which thrills my dad as he is a horse trainer. I think he is now eyeing him up as future apprentice jockey! On Sunday Mum and Dad came to visit - they live a couple of hours away so they dont get to see Tom much. Tom is a bit funny around people at the moment, especially loud people so he spent most of the day crying and clinging to me - mum and dad foster children and they have 3 at the moment who just dont understand the concept of not getting in the baby's face and talking quitely to him etc. They just constantly yelled and shook rattles right next to his eyes - so it was all abit frustrating, as i havent seen mum and dad for ages and wanted to show them my good little boy..
As for the great wrapping saga - Tom has now learnt to escape his wrap and move from one end of the cot to the other - so definately going into a sleeping bag. The only thing was when i got him up this morning he has scratched himself all over his face. His nails are quite short - he looks like he has gotten into a fight with a cat! I think i might have to put mittens on him.

Good luck for your wedding tomorrow Zofia - we want to hear all the details. I just love weddings!
Mummy Mel - your poor friend - 15 days!! I would have gone crazy. Tom was two weeks early and even that was enough for me! :lol: Your new house sounds lovely.

Em - sounds like you had such a similar weekend to me! Lucas is the same with people so i invited mum and dad over for lunch thinking that if he was in his own surroundings they would get to see a happy little boy....things did not go according to plan....he only slept for half an hour in the morning and screamed like i have never heard him scream as soon as they walked in the door! We did get him to sleep and he slept for an hour and a half (and let us eat our roast!) but then got up and screamed again as soon as he saw them. He did calm down and finally they got some smiles and a happy boy!! So stressful! By the way i think there is a horse running in the cup called Black Tom - definately an omen bet for you! P.S Tom was our second in line name for Lucas!!

Rebecca - Lucas does the same with his dummy now when i try to resettle - just pulls it out! I am finding it impossible during the day to get him back to sleep without picking him up which is a habit i didn't want to get into but whatever works i guess!

Ha ha Megan - Lucas was our second in line name for Tom!! How freaky is that. It only missed out because a little boy came into my work and got himself jammed in between our sliding door (dont ask me how..) and his mum was screaming 'Lucas! Lucas' at him over and over again, so it temporarily put me off. I still love it and could imagine Tom as a Lucas though.
I am thinking of having a bet on Black Tom as it is paying $151 - which obviously means its crap but you never know!!

Can I join in too? My bub Oliver is almost four months old, born 9th July. He just made the transition from bassinette to cot on the weekend and I thought it might be time to try some new settling techniques for his daytime nap. He normally sleeps 3 hours around the middle of the day, usually falling asleep at the breast then I will put him in his swing. He wakes up but is fast asleep in no time.
But!!! I'm thinking he might be getting too used to the rocking motion and may have trouble settling himself once he is too big for the swing.
So today after feeding him I let him settle in my arms for a few minutes, gave him a nice big cuddle and popped him in his bed.
He layed there quiet for a minute or so, so I left the room, and told myself I would give it five minutes if he started to cry (as long as he wasn't too distressed). He did start to cry so after 5 minutes I went in, picked him up and settled him. He stopped crying almost instantly so I popped him back down, kissed his cheek and left the room.
He started to cry again so after 5 minutes I went back in and he was sucking on his fists so I decided to give him a little top-up.
Within a few minutes he was falling asleep while still on the breast so I popped him back in bed. He opened his eyes, I gave him another kiss on the cheek and left the room.
Then, no crying!!! Went back in 5 minutes and he was fast asleep, and still is! I feel like we have really achieved something, and so quickly and easily. I wasn't expecting this cause I had so much trouble teaching my first son how to sleep. I'm really lucky though cause Oliver has been an easy baby right from the start.

I am going to get Charlotte weighted tomorrow as it has been ages since I have had it done. She looks like she is putting on weight but it is still nice to know how much.

Megan, I hold Xaviers hands long enough for him to get a good suck going and then let them go. If he's tired enough the fall to the sides and no more problems.

Well I would tell you all what a good boy my little man is being today, but I don't want to jinx it. Fingers crossed he will be ready for another feed soon, then another sleep and be fresh and ready to go when dad gets home.

Sacha - i hope things are getting better for you in the sleep stakes. The first few days will be the hardest, but in saying that i am still pulling my hair out with lucas' daytime sleep. He goes to sleep fine but is impossible to resettle. I'm not sure where Tweddle comes from, they are basically a sleep school that runs day and night stays, luckily the one we went to was free! I think there is a book called Sleep Right, Sleep Tight that you can get that has thier stuff in it. For after 6 months i will have to find the brochure but its leaving to cry for intervals of 2, then 4, then 6, then 8, then 10 min at a time. After each interval i think you go in for between 2 and 10 min. Will have to try and find it.

Em - Very funny about the names, maybe we will both end up with Lucas and Tom, i am convinced i will have another boy next time!

Welcome Leah and Raels!

Just wanted to fill you in on the great weekend we had- it was Amelie's christening yesterday. Spent all week cooking and getting the house ready, as well as the booklets for the mass and making sure her gown fit (my nanna knitted it for me when I was a baby - it was used for me and my three brothers!).

The day went soooo well!!!! I couldn't believe what an angel my little girl was! We went to mass at 10am, after she woke at about 9, she had a feed during mass and then we were due to have the christening at 11:30. BUT there were two other babies being done at the same time, and one was half an hour late!!!! I couldn't believe it! But Amelie was great and slept in our arms until the baptism started. She didn't cry at all, even though she was probably very tired and didn't mind the water over the head at all. It was just a really nice celebration. We had lunch back here and I had made a mountain of food - we didn't need it all. Amelie was very patient with all the photos and then went to sleep on the boob at the next feed. She was up and about again as the party girl not long after, though! All in all it was a great day and nice to celebrate with family.

Sorry for the selfish post but I am so in love with my little family, especially with my baby girl at the moment!!

Thanks all for your comments on sleeping - we are still not doing fantastically but I did get 3 hours in a row last night! It's hard to be firm at 3 in the morning when you're falling asleep on the cot rail as you pat for the 4th time, but I'm doing my best to at least make sure she goes down awake and she's doing ok at that.

Mel - Careful on those stairs already! :D I'm curious, do you use monitors for the kids? I'm fairly freaked just thinking about having Autumn in her own room, and it's right across the hallway!:redface: Eli is a great name - Autumn would probably have been Elias if she were a boy, Eli for short. She was 10 days overdue when I had the EC and she came out 10lb 2oz so I know how your friend must have been feeling.

Em - Oh boy do I hear you on the older kid thing! My niece is 4 and loves Autumn to bits but she just can't stay out of her face - always touching her head and jiggling her arms no matter how many times she's reminded. It drives DH absolutely nuts - luckily he's not usually around to see it. Autumn has been a huge face scratcher from birth and I have given up on the mittens - she sucks them off. I still haven't found a way for her to kick the habit so let me know if you do!

Star - congrats on Amelie's baptism, it sounds like a lovely day for all - Autumn recently had hers - did Amelie get a zillion pewter photo frames? :lol:

I can hear Autumn on the monitor as I'm sitting here but no crying so far - fingers crossed she puts herself back to sleep...poor button has heat rash over her neck and back so can't be completely comfortable :( Oh! and she started rolling onto her tummy on Saturday and hasn't stopped since! :clap:

the older kids, do get a bit in the face of the bubs, I have 3yo, an almost 2 yo and 1yo nieces, and they get a bit rowdy, but if you can get them to stand back, Xavier is absolutley fascinated by them all. Esp the 3yo. the one year old is very fascinated by him too, as I think she's realised he's smaller than her and won't be as rough as her big sister. she kept saying Hi to him yesterday, and giving him cuddles it was very cute.

Yey Yey Yey Yey Marty is Gone, woooo hoooo!!! I'm soooooo glad he left over the others. I would have chucked a spit if he didn't.

Sacha, I have a baby monitor in Jacks room, and I use the monitor on our phone in Charlees room, and also we have the house intercom on downstairs as well, so there is no chance I won't hear them. But Istill go to bed worried I won't. Yey on Autumn rolling over, Jack is still to do so. But I think it's mainly because he doesn't get too much time on the floor, as Charlee loves to tackle him. But he is getting close the times he is down.

Hi and welcome Raels and Oliver, glad to hear Oliver has learnt to self settle himself. I'm back to square one with this one. MIL was up for 2 weeks and would pick him up as soon as he would start to cry, so now whenever he is put down he starts to cry, and it's not a cry cry, as soon as he sees you or you pick him up he stops instantly. I told DH she is not to pick him up all the time again next time she is up, but he said I couldn't do that and I'm like watch me. It's easy for him to say that when he is not around all that much. Sorry for the vent, it's a sore spot AtM. I see your at caboolture. I'm in New Farm, we have friends up there.

Mrs Daisy, I was thinking about Black Tom for the cup too. Also Purple moon as I love Damien Oliver. But I also had a dream that #7 won, but it was dressed in Red, so must check out what colour it is. Will you have a bet? I love the races, it's been ages since I have been to the races.

Hi to anyone I have missed.

Well our furniture arrived today. But the stupid knobs broke the bedhead for the spare bed and one of the chais is faulty. We couldn't believe it!!

Girls, I still don't know if I'm fighting a little of depression. I just have some really bad days, where I can't take anymore. I don't know if it's becaues DH is in between his exams and because of the stress from the move, but he and I seem to fight all the time lately. And I just don't know if it's because I'm depressed that I'm so down all day or because it's just stress. I know it's not baby related as I love my babies to bits, sometimes they are the only thing that keep me from exploding. I just wish DH would say something nice to me, rather than just biitch and moan about what I haven't done, or what I've done wrong, or what I should be doing or what I shouldn't be doing. I told him today, I can't take it anymore, and he didn't even care. What does that mean????? I hope he is just stressed. But I'm not convienced. Yesterday I left him to study in the bedroom. And I went in there after a while and I found him laying there doing nothing, meanwhile the kids were upset, the phone was ringing and when I asked could he help, he just snapped at me and said I'm studying. Or today I was down trying to put Charlee to sleep and Jack was upstairs crying, the door bell as ringing, and he didn't move from his chair with his head phones on. I asked what he was doing, when I got back from putting Charlee down, and letting in the furniture guys and picking up Jack, and he said he was listening to music while he was doing some uni work as Jack was crying and he couldn't study. Like OMG, why don't you pick him up then:wall: I just feel like everything comes before me and the kids with him. And I honestly don't know how much more I can take, without snapping. I'm really hoping it's just stress from uni, moving, and work on the two of us. As I get so upset to think what else it might be. I'm so sorry for the vent guys, but I didn't want to tell anyone else the way I'm feeling atm. I'm sure tomorrow I'll read this, and think why did I write that. Which makes me think that I might be depressed. What do you all think?

Mel :hugs: of course you should express your frustrations on here! You will probably find that you are just the first to say out loud what many are going through, so good on you. They say that on the list of most stressful events, moving house is like, number three or something, after death and divorce! I have heard my friends tell me how much harder life is with two kids than one, even if you are really enjoying them - and you have had a lot of stress with DD sick and you sick - maybe you didn't even realise how much stress you were under lately! I imagine it would be much the same for DH only men just can't express that stuff, they have to go into their caves and brood about it until they come up with a way to deal with things that makes them happy. I can see how his actions might have you worried but you have all had such a huge change so give yourself permission to be a bit frazzled for a while. I hope you can see a little light real soon that will make things easier for you, and in the meantime...talk talk talk as much as you feel like to whoever you can! That's how women cope best so don't bottle up!

Oh, and hey, I'm only a 40min drive away if I can do anything...

GGGRRRRRRHHHHHH at putting Kaetlyn to bed. There is just no pattern! the last 2 nights she has screamed blue murder at bed time, tonight I sat with her on a chair in her room, gently rocking, and then my arms got sore, heheh so i put her in her cot, and left, no dummy or anything and she is asleep. What the? she has not done that since, ever!!!
DH is at work tongiht, maybe thats it? He is on night shifts all week, so if she is fine all week then bad again when he is home at bedtime, I know it is him! I think he over excites her playing etc.
