Hi everyone
Diana and I had a good day today. We had our six week check up and all is well (except that apparently I am still 4-5kg over my pre-pregnancy wieght :( - I didn't need to know that as I feel really good otherwise and all my clothes fit and all...)
Diana has been a lot more settled the past couple of days. I think she may have had a growth spurt last week, which is why she was so restless and sooky. She is 54cm now and weighs 3950grams!
Blueflower - re settling - when Diana was Kaetlyn's age a few weeks ago, she would not settle unless I was holding her, so we co-slept every night for about a week. After this, she was okay to be put to sleep in her bed. The early childhood nurse at the local centre said that young babies need to be held a lot by their parents in order to feel secure. When they are older they will feel more confident on their own. So picking them up and holding them to settle them at this age does not build bad habits.
Mel - good to hear that Jack is doing so well.
Kylie - glad you and Seb are doing so much better.
Welcome Danielle, Jan and Nicky (and anyone else I may have forgotten )
Hope you are all doing well. Diana wants a feed now, so I better go. :D

well I have had an interesting day!! Avaleigh had been awake since 6.30am this morning and I think she only got about 2 hrs of broken sleep during the day. She is out like a light right now tho!! Avaleigh was great tho, she was just happy sitting around and looking at stuff and she would only get angry when it was feeding time!
-
morning everyone,
I'm typing with 1 hand as have a snuggly boy in the other & he's just too cute to put down. It's only been a week & a bit, but already he has changed so much. 1 good thing about a c/s is that he has a really nicely shaped head. Trying to look at the positives, cos still pretty teary about the whole thing. It's annoying, because I almost never cried throughout pregnancy, but seem to be having at least 1 massive bawl a day at the moment - bl%%dy hormones!. At least the pimples are clearing up.
V - regarding Avaleigh's cold hands, I'm pretty sure that this is pretty normal.Their circulation isn't great at this age, so the best way to check that they're warm enough is t'o feel their torso, not hands or feet. I'm dressing Liam in a singlet, body suit, then a wrap, with just a wool blanket (doubled over) on top for sleeping, & he seems fine. I think if they're cold they'll probably tend to yell a bit more, whereas if they're too hot they'll just get sleepier - just like us really.
Question - how long before the umbilical cord drops off?? I am a little unmotherly, because I find it pretty gross & can't wait until it's gone & he has a normal tummy.
-
Jan - Avaleigh's umbilical cord dropped off this morning! So i would say Liam's will drop off soon too.
Avaleigh is still not really sleeping today. I dont know whether she has an upset tummy or is hungry. I fed her this morning at 9am and she wouldnt settle. She did a poop so I changed her and gave her some more cuddles and a top up (I think! LOL memory is bad). I cuddled her some more and she did another poop. So I changed her and then cuddled her and while I was cuddling her I could feel like her tummy was rumbling but she was not showing any hunger signs. She eventually fell asleep in my arms so I put her in her bassinette, where she slept for maybe 30mins and is now awake again but is happy to suck on her dummy.... What do you all think - hungry or upset tummy? I have my first meet with the Child Health Care Centre this arvo so I will see what they say..
-
Howdy.... Zyon's umbilical cord dropped off on Monday, DH buried it in the garden where Indah's is which is partof his beliefs/culture & he has to feed it & give offerings daily, burning incense etc...
The MCHN has just left all is going great guns he gained 240g in 5 days, so he's definately getting enough milk! I love seeing it dribble from the corner of his mouth!
I wnat to try & write up Zy's birth story tomorrow too...
He seems to feed from 6pm til 10pm continuously, but then sleeps til about 3am, then feed & sleeps again til 7am, so it's not too bad!!!
I still have my hormonal rash on my face so am off to the GP tomorrow, I hope I can get rid of it easily, as it's really annoying me!!!

Hi All,
An addition to you buddy group
Name: Georgie Olivia
DOB: 26 July 2007
Baby #: 1
Time: 9:54am
Weight: 2675 grams
Length: 45cm
HC: 34cm
Labour: caesarean (breech)
Been home from hospital for 2 days now. Everything is going surprising well, but she has been unsettled today so things could be changing. Maternal health nurse made visit today. Georgie had put on 60gms since leaving hospital 2 days ago so happy with that.
Georgie's umbilical cord feel off today as well.
Looking forward to getting to know you all.
-
That's good news about the umbilical cord, sounds like I don't have too much longer to wait.
Having a touch of deja vu atm - I'm back here typing with 1 hand, as sleepy baby in the other. Think I have the opposite problem to you V - Liam just wants to sleep today, barely interested in the feeding station at all, so I'm kind of anticipating a bad night once he does wake up. So going to try to get some mini kips whenever I can in the next few hours, just in case.
it's good to hear of all these healthy weight gains for our Bubs - think Liam put on around 150g after leaving hospital - I have a little fatty boombah on my hands I think :)
-
Can't believe how big this group is growing:dance:
Welcome to all the new July mummies, I hope your little sweethearts are just wonderful.
Well I downloaded some news photos of Jack and Charlee. Jack is smiling alot now, he is sooooo cute, I'm in love with him soooooooo much.:p He has been such an incredible well behaved little man. Sleeping great during the night, the last couple of night he has only woken once, big yey!
Charlee the poor little thing is in the wars lately. She is still finding her sea legs, so still taking so craking falls. Today alone, she bit her lip spilling blood out everywhere, 3 new bruises on her head and and stratch on her cheek, poor little thing, she is a roughen that is for sure. I think we might have a little tom boy on our hands
Anyway I not going to attempt some personals tonight, just put Jack down and I still have alot to do before bed. So hopefully I'll get a chance tomorrow to get on and catch up with you all.
Take Care
Mel.

Hi Everyone,
Finally I have a chance to pop in and get started in here (only 3 weeks after Amelie made it into the world - LOL!!) Looking forward to catching up more regularly - goodness knows where the time goes with the little one around!
Name: Amelie Grace
DOB: 13 July 2007
Baby #: 1
Time: 2:37am
Weight: 3910 grams
Length: 53cm
HC: 36cm
Labour: caesarean (posterior, after a long labour)
Well, in summary, Amelie is being a bit of a nightmare! She is an angel during the day, but as soon as I give her her midnight feed, she refuses to go back to sleep and we're usually up until 5 in the morning. Not very fun for dad as he has to get up to go to work the next day. We're hoping she gets through this phase soon, as it's wearing us out!
On the feeding front, she is a guts! Loves her mum's milk and drinks so much she sometimes makes herself sick. At least that's better than one who doesn't feed, I reckon. She was weighed today and they reckon she is 4350g, so she's putting on plenty of weight!
Will try to pop in when I can and keep up with you girls!
-
Just got back from getting the kids weighed and Jack has now put on 1.4kg since birth, he now weighs 4.83kg, what a little piggy hey!! And he has grown 3.5cm.:p He also slept 6 hours straight last night, I couldn't believe my eyes when I woke up at 4am what time it was, I feel like a different women today:dance:
It's very quiet in here today, anyone about? I finally have both kids down at the same time doesn't happen all that often.
Anyway hope our all well.

Hi there girls!
Little ones asleep and Adams out for the day, so I've got some time to pop on.
I must say, I am having a dream run with little lachlan. He is feeding like a trooper! The domicilliary midwife was extrememly happy with the way things are going here.
When we left hospital, Lachlan was only 100 grams below his birth weight. I am pretty sure he is now abouvfe his birth weight and it's only day 6!
His cord stump fell off on Tuesday night, which we thought was really early, but the middie was again quite pleased with how it looks.
I am really starting to get the hang of the breast feeding. I thought I would have so much trouble but Lachlan is in love with mummy's boobies! hehe
He is sleeping quite well. seems to get at least 2 hours at a time. He is cluster feeding at night, but he is getting better and better. Had plenty of sleep last night, so today I am feeling great. We went on our first shopping expedition before. Mum and I took him to my last 2 workplaces. He slept the entire time!
With regards to settling ur little ones, I tried something new the other night and it seemed to work. After feeding Lach, changing him and then feeding him again, if he is a little unsettled, I put one of my breast pads in his bassinette. He seems to love falling asleep on my chest, but sometimes he gets grumbly when I put him down. The idea of the breast pad is that he can still smell the milk, so he thinks he is still on my chest. He seemed to settle pretty quickly the other night when I tried this.
Anyway, I am thinking about having a nap now... get a few more hours sleep in while I can.
I hope you are all enjoying your little ones very much! I am absolutely loving being a mummy. How good is it?
Hugs to all.
Nicky

Hey Nicky,
I like the idea of the breast pad- I might try it tonight if she is unsettled.
Sometimes, one thing will work one night and the next night the same thing will not work. I guess it is just trial and error at the moment so see what suits her and Us best. One of the books say that it will take them 2 weeks to get into a routine of sleeping so.... guess we'll just have to wait and see!!
Veronica- I have a book called Baby Love by Robin Barker. It was reccomended to me by a friend who knew nothing about babies when she had one (Like you and I and few others here!!). I find that it is great- has everything we need to know from dressing to feeding to taking care of the navel. Its not biased, but gives you all information about a subject- like settling- it lists so many different ways but never says this method is best, or dont do it this way, AS EVERY CHILD AND PARENT IS DIFFERENT. I hope this helps, as I have noticed that you are asking alot of the same questions that I look up in the book.
xoxo

I have added a few pic's of Zyon... But now he's awake & wants a cuddle, cant deny the little man that so will pop back soon....
-
Hi all
gee there are so many of us now - exciting - but hard to keep up - or maybe i am just feeling a bit slow LOL!!!
I havent posted birth details yet but most of you probably already know but I will do it anyway
Charlotte Camille
Weight 8lb7oz /3820 gm
HC 34.5
Length 48cm
Baby #3
Born 12.40pm
Drug free intervention free labour YAY
Blueflower - I love the Robin Barker book as well - I still refer to it all the time.
Nicky - sounds like you have the settling technique down pat - good on you!
Tracey - I am about to go and have a look at Zyon - I bet he is adorable given how gorgeous your girls are.
Mel - poor Charlee - she sounds just like Jesse in that they are always in the wars. Jesse seems to gain a new bruise or cut each day. Yay for Jack sleeping so well - when they sleep well it makes you feel human again doesnt it. Did you manage to have a rest while Charlee and jack were sleeping at the same time?
Relle -OMG at Angus sleeping the entire night - how lucky are you!! What a trooper he is - I guess, like Charlotte, considering he is a third child he just has to fit in doesnt he LOL!!
Me - I weighed Charlotte yesterday and she has put on 550gm in 3 weeks 4 days.
I feel bad for not doing many personals but I will BBL to do some more - I just have to have a relax on the couch while all three children are sleeping YAY.
I hope you are all doing fantastically well and enjoying your bubbas - oh and managing to get a bit of sleep!!
take care
jem

Hi everyone
Welcome Star and Bridee.
Relle - good to hear that Angus is doing so well. Although scary that the older children are taking up more of your time than the newborn . I guess its something that we've all got ahead of us. Before Diana was born people were asking me if I was scared at the prospect of living with a baby. I always replied - no, I'm scared of what will happen when she is about two.
Veronica - from what you described, it sounds like Avaleigh is hungry (although of course, I'm no expert). I agree with Sara - Baby Love is a fantastic book and a great resource. Other helpful books I have found are Baby and Child by Penelope Leech and Kidwrangling by Kaz Cooke.
Mel - lol at calling Jack a piggy. In the Chinese calendar all of our bubs are piggies (born in the year of the pig). Diana sometimes makes cute little grunting sounds like a piglet when she eats, so Stan calls her Piggy Girl.
Nicky - great idea with the breat pad. I just put mine in Diana's bassinet and she has settled! Thanks for the tip.
Something odd - even though Diana is a champion feeder (even the midwives and lactation consultants at the hospital were most impressed with her ability to latch on and feed), occasionally I give her the breast and she seems to have forgotten how to latch on. I have to put her down then or do something else before trying again. Has anyone else experienced this? What could be the reason she does this? Should I be worried?
Question - how are you all feeding your babies? Are you breastfeeding, using formula, or a combination? What influenced your decision? How are you finding it? I am breastfeeding Diana exclusively (sometimes I express and Stan feeds her from a bottle, but she always has breastmilk) and plan to keep it up for six months and then plan to continue breastfeeding after introducing solids for as long as Diana wants to. I am breasfeeding partly because I do believe that "breast is best" and partly because it seems easier and more convenient overall (e.g. wherever we go, Diana has food :), there is not need for washing and sterilising. it's free :D, etc) I found breastfeeding a bit painful extrememly exhausting in the first few weeks and considered giving it up, but as the weeks progress and Diana and I get better at it, it is becoming easier, so I am glad I perservered through those few difficult weeks.
Wishing you all a lovely and restful weekend. I had a shocker of a week at work, so am looking forward to a couple of days off. ;)
-
Starfish I'm breastfeeding exclusively, reasons being I believe breast is best and convenience. I think I have been very lucky Georgie attached well from the start and I do not have sore nipples or find breastfeeding painful. Which is surprising apparently because I have red hair the MCHN said fair skinned women often get cracked nipples early on. I'm sure I will run into problems at some stage but I also think because Georgie is on the small size (current weight is 2.5kg) she doesn't have a really strong suck at the moment, she is getting all the milk she needs but it is quite a delicate suck.

Good morning everyone.
Avaleigh and I had a rough afternoon yesterday. The poor lil thing was so full of wind and hadnt done a poop since 5am (she normally does one with every feed) and it got to about 3pm she wouldnt settle and i started crying! Luckily Jason came home and took her for a lil while so i could get something to eat. But all evening I would start crying, once i start its hard to stop!! I bathed her and that helped bring up some wind...I thought we were in for a bad night but we managed some sleep and she has done 2 poops now and some burps. I am planning to get infants friend for her and see if that helps.
Zofia - I am purely just breast feeding and will be breastfeeding for as long as Avaleigh wants to and for as long as I can. The convenience thing is the biggest factor. I have expressed anything out for Jason to bottle feed her but will probably start doing that when she is a little older and if Jason wants to feed her.
Question - what are you all doing to get the fathers involved with their child? I've just realised that Jason doesnt really do anything to bond with Avaleigh, He does hold her and cuddle her but thats about it. I would like him to try bath her so maybe they can have bath time tigether but Avaleigh iis a bit of a screaming pot at bath time so maybe when she starts to enjoy it a bit more.
well im goimng to attempt to put my lil darling down so i can hsave a shower, breakfast and then go ti grandmas house. Jason and i might be going out for our first outing this afternoon, so that should be fun, ill probably be te first tim I breastfeed out out of the comfort of my house!
Mel - i think i read somewhere in some earler posts tat you are giving Jack some magic juice from WA, is from a pharmacy in Pabury?? I heard of a guy that makes it up but isnt selling it over the counter, kinda thing..
-
Hi everyone,
V - sorry to hear you're having a bit of a rough time with Avaleigh & her wind. It's so hard on your heartstrings when you can't get them to settle down. Liam only gives me a tiny bit of trouble, all things considered, but even then it's really difficult. I'd also recommend the Robin Barker Baby Love book - I've found it really really useful.
Zofia - I'm another b/f girl. I've been really lucky in that it has been pretty easy, although there is a definite preference for right side over left side. liam fusses much more over the left side, but as he's still usually on there for 20-30 minutes, I figure he's still getting what he needs. I'm probably too lazy to go to formula - just don't know that I'd cope with all the sterilizing etc. Have thought about expressing so that Pat can join in the fun, but might wait a few weeks yet so that the b/f skills are fully bedded in iykwim.
Nicky - love reading how much you're enjoying Lachlan, it's just gorgeous. Liam also does the cluster feeding thing at night - feel like I spend most of my evenings just swapping him from one bosom to the other. But it seems to be working - I usually get a 4 hour stretch of sleep afterwards, which is gold. Mind you, his "pattern" will probably change now that I've written this.
Jem - 3 kids asleep at once - you must be a super mum! Hope you enjoyed your time on the couch while it lasted.
Anyway, going to try to get some lunch organised before Liam wakes for his next feed. BBL.
