V- I have been really conscious of getting Dh involved, I feel I get all the time with Georgie. DH baths her, with me as his assistant, he also changes some nappies but with this while it is something he can I don't want it to be the only interaction he has with her so he doesn't change all the nappies. DH has cuddle time with Georgie in between beasts at feeding time and if she is still a little awake after a feed then DH has cuddles. It is really hard but I think when she is up to playing that is when DH will have more time with her, at the moment it is all about sleep and feed, which doesn't leave much for Dh.
I really feel for those that are having long stretches of crying, at the moment I'm really lucky that Georgie cries very little, only had 1 night so far of crying for 3 hours but apart from that she only cries to tell me she is awake. She does need to fall asleep most of the time in my arms otherwise she will cry but within 5-10 mins she will be asleep.
-
Bridee- Lucky you on the cryng thing! Kaetlyn has cried for 6 hours one night (that was our first bad night ever), DH and I ended up in tears, as nothing we did would settle her. Now she cries for about 3 hours a night- generally from 6pm until she settles and eventually falls to sleep (in our arms or in her rocker).
Zofia- I am purely BFat the moment. We wont be giving her a bottle of EBM until 6 weeks when they say that bubs have fully established BF. At the moment she wont even take a dummy, so not sure how she will go with a bottle anyway. I have froxen some EBM from when my BB were engorged. will start expressing soon when I know she has settled down on her feeding for when neeeded later on.
Jan- Kaetlyn has a preference for right also- right side she will latch on straight away, whereas on the left, she kind of searches for the nipple sometimes (my right nipple is bigger and different shaped to the left one- werid I know!)
V- DH is very involved in Kaetlyn- the only thing he does not do is feed her LOL! for obvious reasons! He helps bath her, plays with her, trys to settle her, changes her. I would actually say that he has more interaction with her, as my time is mostly spent feeding her.
Nicky- I tried the brest pad in the cot, but it didnt work  she was still unsettled. I had to laugh though. I put them in the cot after her last feed along with a shirt that I wore, then DH went into get her this morning when she woke up and nearly had a heart attack- my shirt was there along with the pads! luckily he remembered me saying I might try it!!
Well just wanted to ask a question.
I have been BF Kaetlyn now for 2 weeks and was wondering if anyone elses breasts dont feel like there is milk in them. I was so used to them being sore from being so full and engorged that now they dont feel full all the time and not as heavy. Is it just me getting used to the milk that she needs? I know that there is milk there and she is getting enough. I feel that if they are full and sore I know that there is still milk coming through.
-
I forgot to add.
We brought Kaetlyns first hairbrush today!!!!!
I had to tame that hair somehow!!! cant wait till she wakes up so I can brush it!!!!!!
-
Blueflower - yes, I feel like there is no milk in my breasts most of the time (except in the mornings, when they get really engorged), but I know that there is. I think it probably is your body adjusting to producing the amount of milk the baby needs.
Veronica - Stan is very involved with Diana. We both work part time, so he looks after her when I'm at work and vice versa. He sometimes feeds her EBM and often changes her nappies. We always give her a bath together. I don't hink I could handle bathing her by myself - she hates it and screams most of the time. The other night Diana and I had a shower together, which she seemed to enjoy, but I don't think it was a very effective way to wash her (or me).
Bridee - I feel really lucky too as Diana doesn't cry that much either. Last week she had a few sooky evenings, but is more settled and seems happier this week. :) Hope it lasts.
We finally picked up Diana's cot yesterday. Up till now she has been sleeping with us. I wonder how she will go in a cot...

Hello everyone.
Welcome to all the new mummys its great to see so many new arrivals, i hope everyone is well and coping with the lack of sleep.
Tyler is doing really well and was weighed yesterday he was dressed but weighed 4.8 kgs at 4 wks old, this is a whole kg heavier than his big brother was at the same age, he loves his mummys boobies.:D
I have started to co sleep with him at night as after he wakes around 2am for a feed he wont go back to sleep and it was starting to make me and DH really suffer and poor Ds was copping it during the day.Ds has started to be a bit naughty so im really trying to use the time out chair as much as possible intsead of losing the plot and yelling at him and praising him alot when he does a good thing so i hope it works.
We had a bad day on tuesday when we lost our dog to a snake bite she had only just turned 3 and was Rileys best friend, it was so hard trying to explain to him that she was dead and that we couldnt make her better.
-
Sara - ikwym about the different types of nipples - my left one is not as co-operative as the right, but we're getting there, which is a good thing. The other weird thing is that my right side still feels pretty engorged most of the time, but the left one hasn't ever really felt engorged, but as Liam can still hang onto the left for 25-30 minutes I'm figuring it's doing it's job, so I've decided to not worry about it too much.
Zofia - good luck with the cot transition. I can't believe that Diana is a month & a half old - time flies so quickly, it's crazy. Although not all bad to have it go so fast - I have to say I won't miss sleep deprivation and 3am feeds when they get dropped from the schedule.
V - I'm lucky cos Pat is home until the end of next week, which helps immensely. I get him to do a lot of burping action, and he's good at changing nappies, although we tend to go into "turbo" mode, where Liam gets both of us involved in the change process. Also, Pat is the one who does the bathing, cos with my c/s I find the lifting angle required for bathing a little bit awkward, plus it's another really good way for him to interact with Liam. I'm a bit concerned that I've done too good a job of involving Pat, because at this point Liam prefers his Dad way more than me - he seems to really connect with Pat when they're talking, which is gorgeous to watch.
Now that the birth thing is out of the way, I'm now hanging out for the first real smile. Oh - and the umbilical cord finally fell off yesterday, so I'm not grossed out by anything now :)
-
Roudysmum - you posted as I was typing. I am so sorry to hear about your dog, that's such a sad thing to happen, and so hard for Riley. It's difficult enough to cope with the loss of a pet as an adult, but so much harder when you have to explain it to a toddler who's also having to cope with the changes that a new brother brings to his life. Big hugs for you all.

Jan-Re: the right boob feeling fuller- I am the same- what I tend to do is when the right is feeling we to full, i tend to start on the right side first for a couple of feeds in a row, as she takes more milk from the first boob that is offered. Middy at hosp said that was okay.
Also, another question- Has anyone left there newborn yet with another person except DH/DP? My MIL wants DH and I to go out for a movie to get a break from Kaetlyn, but I don't feel comfortable just yet leaving her with someone else.
If anyone else has left their Newie, what age were they?
-
Blueflower - this morning I was just thinking my boobs feel like they have no milk. I have actually gone back to a bra that I was wearing while pregnant, instead of the bra's I had to rush out and get after coming home coz my other ones were way too small.
I don't know what I would do without this forum as a means to reassure me everything is normal.
I have a big day of visitors with afternoon so hopefully Georgie will behave the same as she does when it is just Dh and me. Also very thankful we had yet another good night which means I got a good amount of (broken) sleep.

Hi there girls!
Starfish - Glad to hear the breast pad thing worked for you. I have done it once or twice when Lach's really relly grumpy, but I must admit that this s not very often at all. I have a pretty chilled out little boy here who just adores his mummies mammaries!! lol
Sara - sorry it didnt seem to work for you but pmsl at ur hubby! lol
In regards to what DP is doing. I am a very very lucky girl. He does a great deal of the nappy changes, probably a good 80%. He also has given Lach every bath he has had since birth. That's his and Lachs special little thing. I always help out though. Adam also is really good when Lachs a little unsetteled at crazy hours of the morning. He always gives him daddy hugs to settle him down and give mummy a good half hour of sleep. Adam's absolutely briliant, and I couldnt ask for anything more! He has been helping me heaps with the housework, done heaps of washing loads..... I cannot praise him enough.
I am a little upset though, as he is going back to work tomorrow. I don't want him to go, but his dad really needs the help, and we are doing so well here. If I want him to have some tie off though, he is able to take it which is good.
Lach had a naughty night last night. His worst since we've been home. He was waking nearly every hour for a feed and a change. He nearly always setteled straight away though so I shouldnt complain.
Just wondering, does anyone else seem to have sore boobs? My nipples are fine, no signs of cracking or being misshapen or anything, just an area underneath my nipple seems to be a bit tender. I am worried its mastitis. I have been trying to massage the area, apply heat packs, and I always attempt to feed Lach starting on that side, so he gets most of his meal from that one.
I havent noticed a lump there, or any swelling or redness, but I think I'll keep going with what I'm doing and hopefully it gets a little better. If not, the MCHN is coming around on Tuesday so I'll get her to check it.
well apart from the sore boob, things are going great and I love every second of being a mum.... even the stiches are worth it! lol
And I must say..... I LOVE SALT BATHS!!! hehe
anyway, better fly. I am having a PJ day today, as I did too much yesterday and wore myself out.
Hope you're all going well and loving your new little families!!!
Hugs
Nicky

In regards to feeling like you dont have enough milk, I'd suggest to offer the breast a little bit more often as the more you feed the more milk you will make!
My breasts are still really full, but Zyon tends to cluster feed from around 5pm til 10pm, then sleeps 4-5hours & then feeds again every 3 hours til 5pm...
It is normal for your breasts to settle into what bubs is needing, but it might still be a bit early or that, so to build up/keep your supply I'd offer more feeds!?
WE have been out all morning at the shops, I wore Zy in the HAB & he slept the whole time (about 3.5hours!) When I got home my breasts were so massive! So have just fed him & he's laying in the bassinette looking around...
He loves being in the HAB & I adore wearing him so it works perfectly for both of us!
I just weighed myself & I am 3kgs lighter than last Friday (still 12kgs to go, but I am hoping the breastfeeding this time (unlike with Indah!) will help shed the extra kgs!
I am also exclusively breastfeeding, we go overseas in 5ish wks so I definately want his food on tap!!! hee hee
I have given ALL my maternity stuff away, no more bubba's for us, which is devastating, but I am also looking forward to our future endeavours!!!
My Dh does all the housework & alot of cooking too, which is a huge help, he does heaps with Maddy & Indah so I can focus on Zy's newborn stage & soak it all up...

G'day everyone
Hope everyone is enjoying themselves.
Avaleigh and I have had a good morning. She has managed to sleep 1.5hrs and is now just stirring for her next feed. It took her a while to settle after her last feed, but managed to get 3 burps out of her and lots of cuddles and she went to sleep. Not bad for us!
Jason thinks that Avaleigh smiled at him yesterday. Could have she or is it too early to get smiles??!!
Well better go tend to her before she gets too restless.
-
hmmm over 24hrs has passed and no one has posted!! Such a big change from the pg thread.....
Well we went out today and got the 'magic juice' that Mel has spoken about to help with Avaleigh's colic. I hope it helps!! She ws real bad last night, held her from 2pm - 10pm!! and I thought that we would have been up all night or that we would need to co-sleep again. But I fed Avaleigh, bathed her and then gave her another small feed, popped her in the basinnette and we went to sleep. Well I hope she went to sleep too! I didnt hear her screaming or anything so she must have. I sometimes wonder if I am just sleeping through her cries because I always seem to wake up at feeding time and not before. hmm who knows!
Well going to go relax on the couch before the next feed. Hope everyone is well!
-
he he Veroncia. I was thinking the same thing.... noone for 24 hours!! crazy times.
Well, have had a good day today after my biggest scare so far last night.
Lach broke out in a rash on his elbows and torso. I ***** myself!!!!!
Tried to call the MCHN hotline number, but it was engaged for over half an hour. So called the nurse on call number.... I am loving this nurse on call business!
So, it looks like Lach had a bit of heat rash. it has setteled down heaps. He didnt havea temp or antyhing so that was a little reassuring. We spoke to a pharmacist today and she mentioned that it could also be because Lach is used to being inundated with all my hormones and his body is just reacting to the fact that he no longer has them in his system.
Anyone elses bub with a rash?
He is still feeding like a trooper, and giving me plenty of work in the nappy change department!! lol
But I am loving everysecond!
Being a mummy rocks! hehe I will never get over how good this feeling is.
Anys, hope you are all going really well, and hope ur bubbas are behaving themselves!!
Hugs
Nicky

HI all,
There are 34 days in july right?? lol well I don't care I'm crashing this thread!!
I hope your all going well I'm sorry I haven't read back on what's been going on, I'm lucky that I have the time to write this. it's probably feeding time right now, but Xavier is enjoying sleeping on daddy. Very content.
I'll try for some pics up soon, but i'm really slack when it comes to these things.
Update on where we are at, we had 2 nights in hosi, they decided that all was going so well they would suggest we go home if ready. Yes I was ready to sleep in my own bed.
I have but a birth story up, I hope it makes sense, i didn't know what to include and what to leave.
In short it was nice and quick, a little on the ouchy side. I do feel like Nathan has a new found respect for me now, after what he saw happen. I am proud of myself for not having any drugs except gas.
Was a little teary, tired and emotional last night, I think I'm over that now, Nathan lost a fair bit of sleep last night so that I could get some proper sleep. Finally we got Xavier feeding for 10 mins and sleeping for about 2 hours. and he's been doing that all day. My milk has already come in and so far so good (I don't want to jinx it) Although the little sucker has jaws like a vice clamp!!
Have a good night all.
-
Welcome back Bec, welcome to the thread and Yeah for being home so early!!! I cant believe that you were back so quick- same for Dee and Tracey. I stayed in hosi for 5 days, and only on the fifth day I felt confident to come home with BFing and a newborn. I guess I really wanted to make sure that I was BF properly before coming home and I was lucky that the hosi I went to is very pro breast feeding.
Well we have had the best day today. Kaetlyn slept really well last night, so gave me a good night sleep. Aaron went and collected her for feeds, so i fed in bed and just got up to put her back in her cot. We have got into the habit of her sleeping on us then we put her into the cot after she is well and truly asleep. After three nights of lots of tears (from me and her) this solution works best. It breaks my heart to hear her crying (not to mention hurts my BBies)in her cot when she is put there to go to sleep. If she only cried for 5 mins it would be ok, but its not and she would prob cry all night long if we let her.
V- good luck with the magic potion. Let me know how you go!! I find that Kaetlyn is doing way more farts than burbs, so a little play normally gets the farts to come out.
Oh I wanted to mention to you also that our bubs were almost the same sizes. I laughed when I saw what Avaleigh was on your birth announcement!
LOL at no-one posting. I have to admit that I have read the posts but didn't really have time to post anything. HAve had a bad couple of days with a little grumbly daughter. I think that she is like her mother in the fact that if she dosn't get enought sleep, it affects her for the whole day.
Nicky- Kaetlyn has a rash on her face, its called 'newborn rash' its bright red with little pimples on it (and i know I cant squeeze them!!!!). I am not sure about putting anything on it, as it is apparently bad to use creams at the moment and is due to the hormones as well. If it gets worse I will take her to a doc (we need to find a good family GP to use), as I never need one. LOL I had to find a doctor when I was PG to get a refferal to an OB!
Tracey- thanks for the tidbit on BF- I keep forgetting, the more she drinks, the more I make for her, so will give her the left breast equeally.
Well Thats about all I have time for. Aaron and Kaetlyn are watching the football at the moment. so it gives me some spare time to run around the house tidying up- Oh and I think I am on dish duty tonight- Aaron cooked dinner.
Hugs to all
xoxo

Hi everyone!
Well, there is no way I am going to attempt personals, there is WAY TOO MUCH to catch up on.
Just will give you an update on Seb and I - he has terrible terrible wind pain and screams this awful high pitched scream and brings his legs up to his tummy and is just inconsolable after some feeds (but not all... weird).
It just breaks my heart that he's hurting and I can't do anything to make it better. We give him nice warm baths if he gets too out of control, I went out today and bought some infacol so will start that with BFs tonight ... he seems like he's really blocked up with poo too ... his poos are not like normal BF poos (but they are the same colour, just not the little seed looking poo, his is really thick and pasty like the same consistency as mustard). Is this normal? I have not seenn any BF poos that look like this (and I'm a kids nurse - so I've seen HEAPS of BF poo).
We are going to see the MCHN on Thursday so will ask her - but thought you all might be able to answer me beforehand.
Hope everyone is going well, will promise to try and get on here more when Seb settles down!

Evening All,
I am going to ask the stupidest question.
How is a newborn a newborn? Aaron and I discussed this the other day, but we dont know know long to call Kaetlyn a newborn for!:doh::doh:
