Babies Born June 2006 #40

Busy weekend was had here!
Mel - applause for Marley! She'd look so cute walking on two's :) I had soup and the Aldi Sour Dough for lunch too!
Bath - Oscar has a thing for vacuum cleaners...I'll harness that...
I've been away from here for a few days and I've forgotten what I wanted to say in PM's.
We had our brigade annual dinner on Saturday and we got home at 3am Sunday. Only because DP had a sore throat and no voice! Saturday's swimming lesson was really, really good - it's gonna be a good term.
Sunday I headed to the Gembrook market, after sending DP off to the vet with MIL's dog...she has managed to gash her leg open at the knee...and cost a bit of money, most of it in anaesthesia due to stitches. She's doing really well, though. I'm really impressed with her, actually. This time last year we had her because MIL went to Tassie and the dog was a PITA. She has been so good this time that I've been willing to swap Coco for Jessie! Poor kid then goes and cuts herself open and scores a few nights sleeping indoors...what some dogs will do!
Last night Oscar woke up upset at about 4.30...hot and upset. Dosed him up and he eventually fell asleep again. I slept in with him till 11.30.
I wandered around the shops of Tecoma looking for a mixing bowl...nothing in the op shops or antique shops, but I did wander into a shop that sells cleaning products and bulk nappies. She has a range of biodegradable and compostable nappies from Germany which looks reasonable, especially as I only use sposies at night now, really. Then she points me to an Australian made nappy. Not biodegradable, but Australian, which is a plus. She's given me a few samples, cos I told her that the Aldi ones have been fanstastic but I'd prefer a locally made product. I'm tempted to get the German ones, though, as we have a compost bin here. they are about $28 for 42 nappies - more than $10 more expensive than Aldi, but it would buy peace of mind. Sheesh, it's such a minefield.
Ok, boy asleep, I have to hang washing and bring in some firewood.
hopefully I'll be back later, but I also need to fit in some study today...

Jess: WooHoo!!!! I expect to see you posting in the doula forum sharing ideas and advice... and the WooHoo room too! What wonderful news :)

Maya: Yep, i hear you on Aldi nappies being shipped all the way from Belgium... it's one aspect of environmental impact that mnay comparison studies fail to mention: shipping as a carbon contributor... once you get your clothie there's no more transporting needing to be done! Let us know how the German ones go... would be a bonus if they were biodegradable... such a juggling act i agree... because i had Verity in 90% cloth I get the guilts with Wade (pullups at night) and Niall (who is down to about 20% cloth now it's winter)... but at least i have a conscience... many people never give it a thought... it's so heartening coming to BB to read how so many people do actually care :)

Lol Yay for Marley!! Nathan, although is very capable and can walk chooses not to, lol. He is so funny. The thing Nathan is doing though is talking, he quite clearly says, "shut the door" and "good girl" and "where's Nathan" of course it is baby bable but you can hear and recognise what he is saying. His range of single words is vast and he is constantly babbling, hehehe, it goes something like, mum mum dudugabahhh gjjuuujuuuwahhhnah mum mum, lol hmmmmmmm with lots of pointing. He also won't stop with the kisses, proper kisses with the mwah sound under it and he says kisses although it sounds more like "issses".
Yeah my bedside table has been a target for a few years now, nothing is safe there, lol.
Bath mmmmmmmmm buttermilk scones sound divine.

Hi Maya I only start back sem 2 today. How's it all going?? I love Aldi Nappies. Nathan is completely in sposies at the moment, due to out growth of MCN's and my pre laziness in not making any more. I really should hurry up and make new ones.

Bath....I was only talking to SIL yesterday about buying the whole set when they release a box set for all seven books, all of ours are very ratty having been read by a few people. Although Allanah ripped Order of the pheonix to pieces, grrrrrr, so we don't have that one anymore.

I started Sem 2 today, only doing 2 subjects. See how I go.

Hi everyone just going to be quick, DH knee op went well, he was suppose to go back to work today but Lockie got croup and now DH has bronchilal pneumonia (sp), Cody is also now showing signs of get croup, so not a great household this last few days. I've also been getting migraines again, so I've been lurking when I can.

Glad everyone seems to be going well.

Mel, was it Kuranga you visited with MIL? It used to be on the maroondah hwy in croydon (?) but I have seen their new palce on the website - it looks ace! that is a great nursery, they have a great range.

Yep, Rory, they're the ones. I figure that if it's just for night time, it's worth it, and I'm only breaking up one nappy (most nights) each day, instead of a whole pile of them! My trade-off for them not being Australian (and like you say, Bath, using all that energy to get them to Australia). I'll see. I have the Aussie samples and I'll see how they go.
Amanda - you're going through the wars, huh? You know you'll make it through to the other side, you always do :hug:
Dee - I've been back at school a week, and I haven't done a great deal of reading yet. I have made a friend though! We have an online discussion section for each unit and my new friend lives in Gippsland and is also doing the course as a grad dip. I suppose I could even meet up with her on my journeys so my parents'. My sister made some ace pockets for me, they are a little large, but they are good for out and about. The lady whose shop I was in today will start to stock some pockets soon, but I think I'll let my sister make us some more!
I've got a girly brekky tomorrow morning, then tomorrow night I have a meeting and I"m going to drop in on a shoe party at the fire station...I've seen a pair of boots I may want to order...I've warned DP...
OK, got a few things to take care of before trying to get this kidlet to bed.

I'm off the free brekky this morning, should be fun, it with the Oxenford Play group, a few of us GC girlies are going,the programs they offer are really awesome and I'm kicking myself that I haven't gone yet. They have mums and bubs excise sessions, yoga (for a small fee of a couple of $$), move2music sessions and toddler sports, I'm going to incorporate them into my timetable. I think it is important to try and get out and about therwise I have way to much time on my hands to be sad about DH being away.

Absolutely, Dee, it's a great plan! I'm glad you're looking after yourself and that wellbeing of yours :) Most of all, I'm glad you lightened your study load - those units will be there next year and the year after, if need be, but your family needs you now!

Just got home - was thinking of going, but then decided to visit my parents this weekend. Will see if 11th is free!

Maya - how is MIL's dog going, poor thing? Nappies sound interesting, wonder how good they are. I wish they would start up the nappy recycling service again, its been out of action since Oct 2006 and their website doesn't give any indication when it will start back up. It was such a good service and cheap too. Glad to hear semester 2 is going well. The online discussion groups are so good, its good that students use them (lots of mine don't GRRRR!). How was breaky and did you get your shoes?

Jess - congrats on getting into the course. My GF completed the same course late last year and had her first birth a few months ago, she said it was awesome!

Amanda - how are you feeling now, hopefully the migraines have gone and Cody and DH are feeling better.

Dee - Nathan's chatting sounds so cute! I wonder if babies who have lots of siblings develop faster? Marley just babbles or screams! Playgroup sounds great, I hope you enjoy your day with the other mums and bubs.

Bath - I wish I could go Sat, and I don't mind the hike! My monthly girls dinners are held everywhere (none close to me lol!) and I actually enjoy heading out to different places. We have family coming to celebrate DH's and my brothers b'day. Is anyone else going to the 11th one? Wouldn't like to go without my Junie buddies!

Rory - you must be stuffed! Hope Flynn lets you have a decent sleep soon. Yes, it was Kuranga. The Croydon one was their first site and they opened the one at Mt Evelyn which was voted best large nursery in 2007. Its just amazing, you should take a trip their even if its just for the food!

For those that have other children, is anyone else having issues with their babies getting angry with brothers/sisters over toys etc? Anything Chelsea plays with, Marley wants and if she doesn't get it she just screams (it is really high pitched and very loud!). I don't think its fair that Chelsea should just give up whatever she is playing with, but I also want her to share with Marley. Any suggestions? I can't growl at Marley as I am sure she doesn't understand what the big deal is. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come.

Worked today which was really good then off to the dentist for my 6 mthly checkup and clean. They did all that and x-rays and I was only out of pocket $11! I love my private health insurance at times like this. I just need to get one old filling fixed but otherwise she said its all good. DH and I are off to Harry Potter (Gold Class, DH's b'day present) tomorrow night, so excited, can't wait to see it.

Before I forget:
For the record, the Aussie ones held up pretty well last night...so I could keep the money here, as well as the landfill, or money to Germany and compost the bulk of the nappy in my garden...hmmm...the cost bit is not an objection, precisely because we're looking at one or two a night.
Mel - yeah, I'm glad we swung to clothies before Oscar was born, because I was so close to ordering the service from that crowd! Poor Marley and Chelsea, both copping it from each other! I know my sister and I were like that, and we were only 23 months apart. Oscar bore the brunt of a 3 year old's jealousy this morning at brekky, but he's so resilient, he didn't even notice...I was the one who caught the other kid out and told him off! Brekky was ace - they have a bit of a custom that I had to be initiated into - presentation of the poached eggs, bacon, roasted capsicum, fetta and spinach leaves, it was ideal! I didn't order a pair of shoes tonight, because I wanted to clear it with DP first. However, one of the other girls will have a party in a few weeks and I'll order a particular pair then. I'm looking forward to it. They are nice shoes and a departure from the comfy shoes I would normally get. The girls convinced me though, that one needs a nice pair of shoes to head out to meet friends in! My friends are bad for me...
I didn't really post in the discussion groups last semester, but I did read them. The subjects I'm doing have less students in them this time, so I've already started posting. One lecturer asked myself and another girl to stick strictly to school work in one thread - just because, as we were discussing possible topics for an assignment, we realised that we were both Apple users. I suggested that Microsoft has a monopoly there because SPSS is only really accessible if you have a PC, and I think he got nervous about that sort of talk being linked to coursework (which is exactly the context in which I meant it! I wasn't just doing a cheeky Apple v MS!!). So, there is to be no infusing of personalities, I gather - just straight talk directly and only about assignments. Dry. Boring.
I went to visit my horse again today with Oscar and it was lovely. Oscar had his gumboots on and wandered around pointing at everything after he discovered pointing in earnest when he saw the huge ginger cat. Then he tried to offload his piece of bread onto the 'big dog'...had to tell him the pony doesn't like his bread like the dogs at home do. He loves his gumboots - walks around like he's wearing diamond-encrusted soles, beaming from ear to ear.
Talking - Oscar doesn't really. Kids with older siblings traditionally learn to speak a lot sooner than first children, because they have those siblings teaching them words very slowly and instructively. Oscar will be very slow to speak because I don't tend to talk in contracted sentences to him, the way older siblings would. Just means that when he does speak he'll be using more words in a short time frame than if he'd started sooner with a few words here and there (according to the Chomsky and Language Acquisition Device theories of child development!!). Our niece who is one month older than Oscar has two older siblings and she has a few words on the go already. I can't imagine him talking though!!
Bath - I'm currently in the study with the door closed, to let Oscar let off some steam before bed and my diary is in the other room, so I can't tell right away if the 11th is free. If it is, I'll meet up and catch the train in. Is it at night or a lunch? Lunch is better for train catching, on my train line. Otherwise I may think about driving in...I've been on late trains on my line and it can be hairy. Unless it's a footy crowd, then it tends to be better behaved.
Tomorrow I have Booby Club, then meeting up with a GF who lives near there. Then I have to fit in some reading before going to brigade.
Gotta change a pooey nappy, hopefully this kid is ready to hit the sack...

havn't we all been busy we have all been home sick this last week but all seem to be on the mend now.
Kai is still to lazy to walk will try sometimes but likes her knees too much.
Mel- sounds just like my to girls Kai is alway taking things of May and then may will try and carry her away which always ends in tears ( as she will either drop kai or I will yell at her for picking her up ) but I think it happens with all kids Zay doesn't fight with kai yet but I think its because he still see's her as a baby but he am may are always at it but thats because when dh is away he thinks he is the boss a will tell may to go to her room for time out and offcorse she wont go so he will then hit her I hope it will end one of these days.

I have decided to re read book 6 of harry potter before I go out and buy to next book which I was meaning to do before the relese of book 7 but didnt but whats it like is the book worth the wait I dont think I will have the self disaplin not to read the last page to find out who dies.

Well everyone seems to be getting better and what do you know I've now got a mixture of everyones illness, sore throat, horrid cough, phlegmn running down the back of throat and of course the body aches, how wonderful. DH went back to work today and I've got to try and tidy the house and rest, so not fair. I have to tidy the house cause we have a house inspection tomorrow yay (not!!).

Ok going to feed the boys and get them to bed and hopefully get a little nap in before they wake up.

Tali- Thats great they are allowing you to wait till DH is home to sign etc for the land. hope it all goes through ok.
Mel- Your MIL outing sounds like a lovely day! My mil has never done anything like that b4 either but i dont think she ever would! Yay on Marley walking and on DH birthday! what a great pressie hehe. I am sure i will have the same prob with my boys re sharing toys. Because up until now you've prob always told Chelsea not to take the toys from Marley and to share, now its turned around and Marley is the taker! i think they understand more then we give them credit for so when she takes something off Chelsea she prob knows thats what she is doing, but the actual "sharing" not sure when they grasp that??

Amanda- glad DH op went well but what a tough time for you with a sick household. How is everyone hope they are on the mend.

Our house- i am happy to report that as of yesterday our house is offically SOLD!! the buyers came through with their 5% deposit so we can breath a sigh of releif, unless something huge happens i doubt they would want to loose that amount of money. Settlement will be mid Sept so only got to cope with rent + mortgage for 2 months or so.
Last week when we had a celebration drink i was a little concerned we were celebrating prematurley, so we had another celebration drink last night that i fel more relaxed about!
The move- has gone well so far. Sat i stayed out of the way and DH had some help to move stuff from MIL. Sunday mum, dad, sister came over and helped. my kitchen was unpacked for me which was great as i didnt know where to start but it was all done for me. Ive continued unpacking the last few days and last night dh bought home more boxes that have been at his work, so more unpacking but i need to slow down, my back is going again on me from being on my feet none stop all day.
DH goes to Melb this w/e, snow trip for 2 days then working 2 days then the removalist comes. i bought a bean bag yesterday cause its more comfy then sitting on a plastic chair or the floor thats piled with doona's!
Nixon- has taken to the move really well. He loves his new house, he walks into his room, grabs a toy or a book bringing it to show me and play with, he has slept reasonably well considering another shuffle so hoping this continue's.
Me- well im finally not stressing out everyday. I can finally start to enjoy this pregnancy. But ive prob missed enjoying the best portion of it. Not that i havent enjoyed it thus far but as you know i've let things overwhelm me. Anyway i have a ultrasound tomorrow at 27weeks and can't wait to see our little boy growing and moving inside me. Gosh it was at this gestation last time that Racs had little Ronan........ They are going well btw, she is busy with her forum "Little Aussie Prem's" is going very well.

anyway we still have the computer at MIL until we get our desk from melb, so will just come in here on Friday and the following wed at work.

just a quickie but will hopefully be able to come back later and catch up on all your posts.

gastro all gone as of last friday in Will but now we have colds - grrrrr! i know i shouldn't complain as it's not really a biggie but we are going stir crazy in the house - we haven't seen anyone for nearly 2 weeks! I'm hoping by this Friday the boys will be ok so we can go to playgroup so they can get out but will have to see as last thing i want is to pass this on. Am frantically doing the ****ey house cleaning jobs that i don't do often enough like cleaning the oven (and wishing i'd cleaned it more regularly) as we are having hassles with our landlady and are having an inspection on Saturday.
Nic - so pleased you are in your house - it must b such a relief
maya - ordered an ergo this morning as really need a good carrier for the flight and having read lots of info i thought this one definitely looked the best. I love that i can carry Osc in it if required as he's so weighty now and it carries up to 5ish year olds! Hopefully Will will fall asleep in it as can't picture him just going to sleep on me in the plane as he's such a light sleeper.

Maya - b'fast sounds delicious! Yeah, your friends are so right, you do need a nice pair of shoes to go out in (in not helping much lol!!!). Never heard of party plan shoes before, whats the name of the company? Some lecturers can be a bit stiff, nothing wrong with what you said! The uni doesn't even support Vista until next year which is so frustrating so I know how you feel about the Apple issue. Oscar would have looked very cool in his gumboots and I had to laugh about him trying to feed the "big dog" bread, very cute!

Tali - glad to hear I'm not the only one! I was beginning to think my child was feral lol!!! Chelsea hasn't hit Marley but she has pushed her a few times. It so hard knowing how to handle it all correctly - ahhh the joys of parenting. I haven't read any Harry Potter books either, but will one day.

Bath - I did describe the smell in the post, it smells so delicious!

Nic - my MIL hadn't done anything like that before either so I was caught by surprise when she asked, but it was really nice. Wonder if having kids closer in age makes it easier for them to understand? You can let me know. Fantastic news about the house and glad you could officially celebrate. Glad the move went well and great idea about the beanbag, they are so comfy. Be careful you don't get stuck in it, they are a bugger to get out of esp being pregnant lol! Its so nice to hear you say you are enjoying the pregnancy more, you even sound much happier in your posts. So happy its all turning around for you now. Good luck at the u/s, hope you get a good view of your little man.

Julie - HAPPY BIRTHDAY! I hope you have a wonderful day and stop cleaning the oven! Leave it for another non birthday day!!! Sorry to hear you all have colds, I hope the disappear quickly for you.

What a beautiful Melb day (apart from the wind). Took the girls to the park after lunch and they had lots of fun. Marley esp enjoyed it, she was walking lots which was funny but the tan bark was hard to walk on and she fell many times. I was surprised she didn't try to eat the bark. MIL babysitting tonight while DH and I go to see Harry Potter. Must go back the girls bags for tomorrow and try to get organised before we go.
