I was advised by the childhood nurse not to give Diana any panadol before the vaccination as apparently it can mask the effects of any reactions bubs can have (or something - that is what I usderstood the reason to be). So I didn't give her anything before the shots. She seemed to handle them okay, but was a bit sooky later on that evening, so I gave her some baby panadol then (which she proceeded to spit back up). She seemed to settle afterwards anyway. :)
Starfish that is correct! panadol can reduce fever which can be a reaction to the vaccine.
however a lot of mums still give it. it want really hurt as if you bub has any serious reaction the panadol want do a thing anyhow to stop it.
i would suggest get the vaccines, quickly feed afterwards to settle, then later in the day if irritable can give panafol to settle. if bub develops a fever then call your gp to check and then give panadol.

Ashley woke up with sticky eye again - yellow/ light green crusty pus in her left eye. it only cleared up 2 weeks ago and its back... whats your secret?
Squirt her in the eye with bm!!!!!! It worked a treat with DD#1 but thankfully haven't had a reason to do it on purpose with DD#2 - I say on purpose because if she isn't quick enough to get on before I have let down she really can cop it!!! :D It might be worth getting it checked by a dr if you haven't already just in case she needs ointment etc so as to kill any bugs etc to protect her eyes......but again, even after it clears, a regular squirt in the eye works a treat! ;)
Well, DD#2 has decided that life consists of sleeping for at most an hour and then crying through to the next feed..............fab. Thankfully, she is kind enough to give me some reprieve by sleeping from approx 11pm through to 6am and not fussing half as much as she used to so I am not being woken up in the middle of the night and then not sleeping again. But weirdly enough, I wake up at 3 & 5am.....no reason, just do, so check on bugalugs and fall asleep again.
Just curious girls, how many feeds do your little munchkins have in a 24hour period?? DD was doing approx 3&1/2 and now am back to 3hrs, with the occasional 2&1/2 so that means approx 6feeds in a 24hour period.....do you think that's enough??

Tina - How was Mykayla with her vaccnations?
I started dreamfeeds for Lewis 2 nights ago. The first night he went from 7pm - 4.30am which was great. But last nigth he went from 7pm-2.30am which is what he would normally sleep anyway so am not sure if the night before was just a fluke. I think I'll try again tonight and see what happens.
Lewis was really restless and jerky today. He keeps burying his head into me and rubbing his head from side to side. Also rubbing his nose. Do you think this is over tiredness or maybe he has a cold coming? Does anyone else's bub do this?
Also we have put him into his cot in his own room since yesterday. But he makes so much noise when he is asleep (we have a baby monitor) that it is as if he is still in our room! I was still waking up at every noise last night to check on him.
BTW Charly, Lewis feeds about every 3 hours, he is FF.
Sarah - Mikayla did really well. She was so cute - she cried for about 10 seconds when she got jabbed but then started laughing. She was a bit unsettled all afternoon but she's pretty much been asleep now since 4pm only waking for 20mins for a feed.
Its great that you've already got Lewis in his cot. We havent been able to put Mikayla in hers yet. She just wont settle in it - she'll only sleep for 15 - 20 mins at a time then starts screaming. Actually she wont sleep anywhere but in our bed or on the lounge!!!
Charly Mikayla is having between 5-7 feeds a day and will eat between 40 - 70mls per feed (120mls on a really good day). The paediatrician actually told us that she isnt putting on enough weight because of her reflux but she seems content and healthy to me. I think at this age they say 6 feeds a day is normal.
Oh and thanks for the input everyone - I did end up giving her panadol about 30mins before her vaccinations so that may have been why she was so good.

We have about 6 feeds a day too. Usually 5 during the day and 1 overnight. And Ashley is lucky to feed for more than 5 minutes at a time.
Saw the Dr last time and he gave us chlorsig but i wont use it again as her eye puffed up and was red for days. so obviously a local reaction to the ointment. Will continue the squirt!
Tina - sounds like Mikayla handled the neddles really well.Aiden never had any reactions to it, he was just very cuddly that night.
Aiden is a mix of ebm and ff. Most of his feeds are about 120 - 130mil each, and he feeds every 2.5 to 3 hours, maybe longer during the day, but 2 hour max in the evenings. I suppose 7-8 feeds a day. He is long/tall for his age, but, underweight for his height.
Before i found out he had reflux, and before i spoke to aba about it, he was having about 140 - 150ml a feed, and feeding every 90min. No wonder i thought i had a milk supply issue!
Now, he is older, he is very alert, and :lol: entertained by the television. I feel bad, but, he loves raggs especially, and it gives me time to express. He seems to not like his swing anymore, and now prefers his bouncer, as it has a toy bar, and he is starting to watch what his hands are doing. We sorta think he might be left handed.
And full of smile and laughter. Its amazing isnt it!His 6 week mark was a huge change in him. He is very strong in his neck and legs as well.
Aiden is still in his bassinete. Is getting abit long for it, so, will have to think about putting him into his cot before much longer. He has always slept in his room, so, hopefully, the change wont be to drastic for him. Will start off by putting the bassinette into the cot for a week or so, and then just him straight in the cot.
Oh, i put Aiden in 00 clothes on Sunday. He only wears the body suits, and some of them are a small size. All the 000 i had where small sizes, the rest in the wash, he needed a change, so i grabbed a 00, thinking it would be wayyyy to big. NOPE! I had to roll the sleaves up, it was baggy around the torso, but, just perfect for his legs! I know the cloth nappy helps it bulk up, but, i was abit amazed.
Sarah - Aiden does that 'bury in, head side to side banging' thing as well. Frustrating as all 'ell. Gets really squirmey as well. I think its tiredness, he does it mostly at night.
His night sleeps have been pretty good, except for last week, when they went back to 2 feeds a night, and/or taking an hour or so to settle. Now the reflux seems to be more under control, they are slowly going back to longer sleeps, and only 1 feed overnight. He has slept thru once, for 9 hours, so, i know he can do it, i just cant wait for him to do it again.
What formula do you people use? I am using the novalac for reflux.

MumofLewis - DD does the nuzzle/bury head thing and rubs from side to side too - I find it quite cute! Great for the cradle cap/face ex foliation too......:p I have noticed that for her it is a tired cue - shame she doesn't follow through sometimes and actually sleeps when I take her lead!! :rolleyes:

Going bra shopping today with my sister - hate shopping but love hanging with my sister.....it's a beautiful day and DH is happy to look after the girls for an hour or so......need to be back for feed but just nice to be out for a minute. DH is so wonderful as is doesn't matter how busy he is with work or business, he still thinks to get me some free time, even if he can only manage 20mins, he'll chuck me outside with a cuppa in the sun.......oh love him so muchly!!
So exciting weekend ahead for all those new daddies - new for the first, second, third etc times!! Any big plans?? Any surprise gifties??
DH went and organised his own gift - LOL!!!! Not worrying me though as he is tickled pink at having a brand spanking new camera with everything he wanted to take pics of his three girls.

Debbie: Lachlan had his immunisations last night, got weighed too at 9wks 2days he weighs 6.44kg!
he not coping to well with them been very sooky and wanting mummy or daddy. only calmed down in last hr or so.

sorry bout the lack of personals, Lachlan been very demanding of late (think he is beggining to teeth!! YEAH for us lol) he thinks he can be early with everything!!

I have now been measured as a 14E so snapped myself up two of them!! Makes a change from the poo/fleshy disgusting granny lace that I could only seem to get in 12F & G..............these Berlei ones do do F's though - so I was thinking a tentative 'yay' before I even got into the shop and for the first time since May 2006, I actually walked out with a bra...................smiling!!!! :cryinglaugh:

Hello everyone - sounds like all bubs are doing well.
teepee2 - you are a lucky gal being taken out to a fancy resturant!
Mum of Lewis - Brianna does the nose rub thing on my shoulder when she's wrapped and tired.
We decided to put Brianna into a cot as a newborn and reduce the cost of buying more equipment. She has also slept in her own room since coming home from the hospital, which has been great. Her room is next to ours and we can still hear everything so have never needed a baby monitor (lucky, because I don't own one)
Brianna has been catnapping during the day, only sleeping for one sleep cycle (40-50 mins) so trying some new techniques to put her to sleep. child health nurse suggested teaching her to fall asleep by herself by letting her cry and patting her occassionally (not lifting out of cot). I thought I'd been doing the right thing and putting her down sleepy (but not asleep). Obviously not. We tried the nurses suggestion today and Brianna screamed........sounds dumb but I was in there crying to!!!!
Does anyone else have issues with the length of sleep during the day?

Well just as we're sorting out Mikayla's reflux and lactose problems we find out that there's something new to throw into the mix!!!
Sorry if this post turns out to be too long but I need to vent!
There's a history of bilateral dysplasia (hip dislocation) in my husbands family. His grandfather and a few distant cousins had it and his sister also had a fairly severe case. My SIL had approx 8 operations by the time she was 10 and my in-laws were told that she would never walk. She proved them wrong and started to walk but had to wear a metal brace/harness on her legs for quite some time as a child. She's now 31 and has been told she needs a double hip replacement which she is trying to put off as long as she can because apparently they only last about 30 years and you can only have a replacement done once which means if she has it done now she'll be in a wheel chair by the time she's 60.
When Mikayla was born we mentioned the family history to our paediatrician who checked her over and said that he didnt think there was a problem but as he could tell we were concerned he sent us for an ultrasound just to be sure. The u/s was done yesterday and of course the sonographer wasnt allowed tell us whether there was any dislocation. Well today we got a referal in the mail from the paed for another ultrasound - no note attached just the referal. From what I can read it says mild bilat-dysplasia and he's requesting a progress u/s. It was too late to ring him by the time I got the mail but I would have expected that he'd have put a note in the envelope (if not phoned me) to explain what they'd found and why and when he wanted a progress scan.
I know it said MILD but I just cant help but worry. Mikayla always has been very unsettled since she was born. I've always put her discomfort down to the lactose and reflux issues but now I'm starting to think that her hips might be the cause of some of the pain.
I've already got a follow-up appointed next Tuesday with the paed for the reflux but I dont know whether I should wait till then to talk to him about it or whether to phone him. I might be worrying about nothing but given the family history I cant help but think the worst :(

Nellnell - The sleep issue seems to be a stage they all go through at this age. We were talking about it at mothers group yesterday because all the bubs around 8 wks are the same. The nurse said it is because the babies are now aware that they aren't in the womb anymore and so get anxious and don't sleep as well. She suggested keeping them wrapped tight and putting them to sleep holding them if necessary to make them feel secure. Also their sleep patterns change anyway as they learn the difference between night and day. I've resigned myself to the fact that I won't get any rest during the day anymore andif he does have a sleep its a bonus!
I've started using one of those safe and sound roll things for his sleeping to keep him on his side as his head is getting really flat now:( The nurse says we must do something before it gets really bad.
Naomi - Aiden is 9 weeks, 2 days today, so will weigh him and see where he is at.Will post later.
Charly - congrats on the bras! Its so had to get nice maternity bras isnt it?
Tina - :hug: i hope everything works out. I know it must be hard to stay positive and I hope everything is ok, the word MILD is promising.
Nellnell - we also dont use a monitor, and Aiden is in his own room. We got a bassinete off ebay. I need to make the move to the cot, but, am abit worried.
Aiden doesnt really sleep during the day, hasnt for ages. Will cat nap on and off, and thats about it. Personally, i dont agree with putting them to sleep by allowing them to cry, i feel like it creates a sense of insecurity for them. Maybe, it will prove me wrong, but, so far, he either goes straight to sleep in the evening after his last feed about 9, or will grizzle, so i pick him up again, another little cuddle, and back down. Generally, 9 times outta 10 ,it works. I cuddle just long enough that he settles and calm, but, not so long that he falls asleep in my arms. Sometimes, i go to bed and will wake say, 20min later, and i can still hear him nattering away to himself, but, he seems happy, so, i dont bother.
So, yeah, doesnt sleep much during the day, but, sleeps pretty well at night, does a 6ish hour stint, a feed, and then another 3 -4 hour sleep.
Speaking of which - he is awake now!

Nellnell - I feel like we have just come out of a sleep issue faze (said in low whisper so DD#2 doesn't hear and subsequently throw new spanner in current 'working' works!! Followed closely by knocking on anything wooden nearby.....:cryinglaugh:) However, I think it was more of a growth spurt because after a week of only ever sleeping approx 40-50mins, she has suddenly dropped into sleeping 1&1/2-2hours :confetti: I was trying to think of everything - milk production/quality, wind, too hot/cold, wet/dirty nappy etc. etc. It was driving me nuts. So much so that there were times that I had checked EVERYTHING twice over and when I had ticked everything off and she was still crying, I'd have to shut the door and turn up the TV or music. I would comfort her with a snuggle and whisper in her ear and then put her down again..............and I noticed that she would settle if I picked her up and then cry as soon as she realised that she was being put down again. Babies are so not silly are they?! :p Just today, happy as larry during feed and play time. But when I went into her room with her, I hadn't even laid her down to wrap her and she started to complain!! So funny and cheeky!!
Our new challenge is the killer-poo she has been doing between 3&4am in the morning........once changed, the chances of back to sleep without a feed are very slim but I really don't want to re-introduce this feed.......I did feed once but let her cry another time..........too-ing and fro-ing on this one.......
Having another little person, it is just not practical for me to carry around DD#2 just so she will sleep, so for me, letting her cry and then going in after 5-10mins for a quick snuggle, kiss & whisper then straight back to bed works. Oh DD#1 got it so good when there was no one else wanting my attention!! :p
DD#2 still has her afternoon complain that it seems no matter what I do, I have to accept fussiness until the next feed .....speaking of which... :rolleyes:
Crying time varies so I really play it nap to nap as to what action I take coupled with what type of cry she is doing........................endless adventures as a mummy hey??
We did the same with DD#1, putting her to bed awake and in the beginning with a lot of tears, from both mummy & baby sometimes!! But she was sleeping 8-9hours overnight by 8weeks and would and still does sleep anywhere and goes to bed between 7&7.30pm with no fights and then up between 7.30&8am with a nap in the afternoon (the cute munchkin even waits in her bed for us to get her up, so cute to walk in and see her sitting up with these big gorgeous eyes and with her teddy in her lap :heartbeat:)
Do you use a wrap for sleep time? I just noticed that our little munckins are only a week apart - do you think your little one could be going through a growth spurt as well??

I want to try the self settling thing now Lewis is a bit older but I've told DH he has to be here when we start it as I will find it stressful! I don''t think I could go 5 minutes though wothout going in, maybe 2 or 3. Should we start it at his bedtime sleep and then once he's got the idea just carry it on all the time? At the moment I wrap him and then rock him in my arms and put him in. If he won't sleep I sometimes put him in his cot, but he never drops off by himself, he just plays or cries. Apparently it takes them 3 nights to be able to settle themselves.
Does anyone know the best thing for cradle cap? Can I just use olive oil or is there special cream for it?
Mum of Lewis - I'm glad I'm not the only one having sleep issues. Good luck with the self settling. I tryed last night at bed time. Brianna went down into cot happy, really awake and wriggling as she was wrapped tightly. She gurgled for about 20mins, then zonk........10 HOURS SLEEP:dance::dance::dance::clap:. maybe it was a fluke. Nurse said only to try the self settling thing in the mornings and before bed (the arvos when she is a little grumpy is pointless as everyone gets upset). Cradle cap - Brianna was starting to get a little when she was about 2 weeks old. I washed her hair once a day with baby shampoo, a vigerous (can't spell) towel dry then apply olive oil at end.
Debbie - What worries do you have about moving to a cot?
Charlyfrog - great to hear about the day sleeps!!!! Poos at 4 in the morning would be nightmarish. Lucky I get mine in the morning.

Sorry if my post was abit abrupt about the sleeping thing. I think i am lucky in that so far (touch wood) Aiden is a good sleeper, always has been, so, it works for me. For me, I find that a feed before bed, is the best thing to put him to sleep. Although - he doesnt generally go to bed till 9pm, and sometimes, that last 30min or so, he gets very frustrated.
I weighed Aiden yesterday - 5.98kg, length 63cm.
Nellnell - i am just worried about how he will cope as he will be able to see more, as the bassinette blocks his view, the cot being bigger, just it will all be so different.
And nellnell - i would second the growth spurt thing as well - i notice Aiden's growth spurts - both his physically and mental/intellect type ones. Apparently, both have the same effect on their feeding/sleeping routine.
I just tried the self settling thing at 9am and went in everytime Brianna cried to pat her. If the crying increased I picked her up, settled her until calm and put her back down. It took 3 times until she was calm enough to hang in her cot awake. She fell asleep about 3 minutes later and is still asleep. Now the test is to see if she will settle herself at the end of the first sleep cycle. Lets hope so:pray:
Debbie - Maybe you could place the cot in a position in Aidens room so he isn't able to see too much of what is going on. I have Briannas cot in a position where I can see her from the living area up a mini flight of stairs and it doesn't seem to bother her. The door is open all day and night and the noise wafts up, day and night. She sleeps through it all and doesn't wake due to the noise / activity factor.
