Yesterday, Aiden was feeding like every 90min to 2hours, and for like 10min at a time. DIdnt know what was going on, bb's where like jelly - i dont think he was getting anythign out after a while, so, when Darren got home, i went to the shops & got some formula. Feed him it at 9.30pm, he drunk just short of 150ml!!! Then absolutly crashed out. I was hoping he would sleep for ages, but, nope, tru to form, work up 4 hours later. Feed him bb milk ,cause by that time, things where rock hard, and then again at 4.30am, and he has been great today. At night now, he goes back to sleep like a little legend after a feed. I think i have been up, feed him, and back to bed, him sound asleep, within 45min. Thats not bad i think.
So, on the whole, most days, is about 4hours between feeds if he is asleep, otherwise, about 3 hours if he is awake. SOmetimes at night, will go 5 hours from the start of 1 feed to the next.
Sarah - Thanks for posting on what forumla you had Lewis on, otherwise, i would of have no idea what to get. I got the karicare gold. And i had no problems giving it to him, and no after effects. Since i know have the tin, and i think i read it has to be chucked out after 1 month, will probably do a formula every night, for Darren to feed, and if i go out for a long time, take formula with me. I hate b/f in public.

Sometimes now i will change Aiden during the feed, if i have to swap sides. But, he does hugge farts while feeding sometimes, and, while mostly its just air, it worries me that if it isnt, i am putting him to bed with a dirty nappy.

Speaking of which, i have to cut back on my sultana bran for breaky. He had been doing lots of #2's, so, i have to wonder if thats the cause. Today, only toast for breaky, and have had no #2's, just more 'skid marks'. Sorry for description.

Tina -how is Mikayla today? Any better? I hope she has settled down for you.

I have decided to wean Aiden at 6months, and then Darren wants to start trying again at 10month...will see, still no plans for birth control anyway, we dont want to go back onto the pill, and he hates condoms, so.... But, i am looking forward to a couple of months of being the only one relying on my body, and not having to worry about what i eat or drink. And besides - i dont want teeth chomping on my bb's. I dont enjoy b/f all that much as it is, without adding teeth to the mix.

    Anyway - enjoy your weekend!

    Hi,

Debbie - Sounds like Aiden loved the formula! 150ml thats' great! Lewis drinks about 100-120ml usually but sometimes I think he would have more.

I had another long night with Lewis, up at 2am, 5am and then he slept at 10am. This afternoon I took him for his first walk around the block. He fell asleep which was great, until he got home and opened his eyes straight away. That was at 2.30pm and he dodn't go backdown until 8.30pm tonight. My SIL came to help me settle him as I was exhausted! I'm off for a sleep now. DH is off for the next 3 days so he is going to do the night feeds which I am looking forward to. He does 12 hour shifts Wed-Fri so that is a long day for me. Oh well, I keep trying to be positive and think there will be a routine soon enough and I will get a bit more sleep!

I have put some more photos on Lewis's webpage if anyone wants a look:

    Hi all

Things havent changed much for us. DH was up with Mikayla from 10.30pm to about 3.30am this morning as she just wouldnt settle and he wanted me to get some sleep. I'd be totally lost without him!!

Jen thanks for the tips. I have tried most of those but not bathing her when she has wind - I might give that a go. She is on both BM and formula (NAN HA) and tends to bring both up without fail! I bought some Infacol today and also some S26 formula for babies with reflux. I tried giving it to her but as its thicker than regular formula she couldnt suck hard enough to get any I might have to change the teat on her bottle so it comes out easier. The midwife from the health care clinic noticed that when she does bring milk up that its very phlemy - she said that it would be because she was overdue and would have swallowed a fair bit of amniotic fluid which will take a while to get out of her system completely so this might be contributing to her upset stomach.

Sarah I think I'll go to the GP tomorrow so that she can be assessed for lactose intolerance - apparently my mum didnt BF me for long because I had a slight intolerance - worth checking it out I think. You mentioned Infacol - Have you used it?? It says from 4 weeks and Mikayla is 3 weeks today - I assume it would be OK to use anyway?????

Better go cause have family coming or lunch.

Will BBL - Take care xx

    Hi Teepee,

Yes I have used infacol, the pharmacist says it is fine. I put less than 2ml in though. It makes a huge difference to his burps.
Lewis's sick was really phlegmy aswell until about 2 days ago. I thought it was from the antibiotics but he was overdue awell so maybe it's the same reason. It's suddenly gone thin now.

Poor Mikayla, I hope you find out what's bothering her soon. Maybe it is the lactose. A friend of mine's baby was allergic to breast milk would you believe.

    Hi Girls,

well sounds like everyone is enjoying ther little bundle of joys!

Tina - I am doing the same as you breast and formula. I think though i am going to change to just formula as she seems to settle better on formula than the boob sometimes. She tends to be so fussy at times that it ends up being a bit of a fight and i just give in and give her formula and she is content and fine. My first DD was a boobie girl and could't get enough so i have breastfed successfully once but this time round its a different story, i have milk and my boobies are all fine, not sore no cracking nothing but just a fuss pot child who latches on, latches off and plays around alot.

Be careful with the S26 as Shayla tends to get constipated on that one - i have switched to Karicare HA - AR all ages for babies with regurgitation and at risk of allergies. I have been told though that Karicare gold is a good one, i have not used this one so not sure but getting a tin today. I am also getting some wind drops that you can buy in Woolies i can't remember the name but you put some drops in the bottle and bobs your uncle the farts and burps come out great and you have one settled baby! I will let you know the name of the drops when i get them. Otherwise i hope it is getting better for you and you are getting some sleep as well. Thinking of you and once again if you need to ask anything i can try and help you..... Even though i am a 2nd time mum i think i am still learning i think we will all still learn no matter how many kids we have LOL!

In reference to changing nappies i do it before a feed or if she is still awake after a feed then i do it then as well if wet or dirty.

Hi to everyone else and BBL

    Hello can i join in?

    Hello

My name is Bree i had a baby on June 23rd and was wondering if i could join your group??

I used the Belly Belly forums through my pregnancy asking a lot of questions, conversing with Alan and generally reading posts. I havent really posted before but thought that this seems like a great group of mums with bubs the same age as mine.

If you dont mind me coming on board i will post about me and bubs.

    Thanks for reading.

    Welcome breeby!

well here i was thinking the soother and infacol were the answers to my prayers... then the last two days ashley has been screaming anywhere up to 4 hours in a row.

I wonder if panadol should be used in this case or if that is just too much?

Princessmya - is it possible that Ashley has reflux? Caeleb had a shocker the other day. He wouldn't feed properly on boob or on the bottle. It was like he had something wrong with his mouth. It wasn't till he threw up a little bit and it went down his cheek and went red, that I realised that it was stomach acid. Poor baby.

I hope Ashley sorts herself out soon. Good luck!

    thanks Celsie.
She hardly ever vomits, so im not sure.
She is asleep now *bliss* and has been very good usually so im not sure.
She seems to settle best after an - TMI ALERT- explosive poo and i mean there is soooo much of it - enough to fill 2 nappies. So i guess i assume all that crying it her belly hurting until that happens?

Ah yes... I know those "explosive" nappies all too well! Built up lower wind is so painful for them. I found this on the infacol website:

For best results Infacol should be given before each feed for several days, as it has a progressive effect, but don't worry if you forget one or more doses.

Continued usage may also help to prevent further build-up of wind.
It probably said that on the box, but it got thrown out before I read that.

LOL - Explosive Poos, glad Lewis isn't the only one with that endearing habit!!

Welcome Bree, did you have a boy or girl? And is it your first baby?

Mum2cheekygirl - I tried S26 gold this time but will be changing back to Karicare as it has made him a bit constipated. I compared the ingredients and they all seem the same but there must be something different in there.

I have upped the amount of formula I'm giving him as he was draining every bottle of 120ml. Last night his sleeps went up to 3-4 hours so I think this is a good sign. Fingers crossed the same happens tonight

    Morning everyone,

Wondering if anyone has any tips for me. I put Mackenzie down after her last feed which is normally around 8.30 and she sleeps through to around 2.30 3.00 but after that feed it takes me forever to put her back to sleep. Once feed and buped I put her back into the cradle and she screams. I then pick her up and she stops. I try putting her back down but same story. The only way I can get her back to sleep is to hold her a pat her bum. I have been told by a number of people this is not a good habbit to get into but at 4am I am willing to try anything. Any helpful hints would be great.

Hope all your babies are doing well.

danielle - as far as im concerned what ever settles them early on is fine.
Ashley had to be sat upright to fall asleep for an hour last night. wouldnt sit over shoulder nothing!!!

Sometimes ill bring her into bed over night so i can rub her back or pat her bum until she falls asleep (which sometimes can take 30-40mintues) because she is grimacing so much from belly pains).

even thou i do this, she will still most of the time at night let me put her in the cot and she will take herself to sleep so she hasnt learnt any habits....

    Hi everyone

Hope your week is off to a good start.

Meeg - I tried to look at your photos, but it seems to ask me for log in information. Am I doing something wrong?

Danielle - I think that you are doing the right thing in settling Mackenzie to get her to sleep. I find it annoying when people comment on "bad habits" when your baby is still so little. When she gets older she will learn to settle better on her own. I mena, she is still only getting used to being out in the big world. Diana is only five weeks old and already I am noticing that she is settling better. The first two weeks she wouldn't go to sleep at all unless I was holding her. Now she is okay with being put into her bed after a feed and going to sleep on her own (most of the time). So I wouldn't worry about what other people say. You do what you feel is right and what works for you.

Re nappy changing - I usually change Diana in the middle of a feed or beforehand if I am trying to feed her quickly before going out somewhere. She hates getting dressed/undressed and hates her nappy being changed, so I try to always give her some boob afterwards to settle her.

Morning all - wow - heaps to catch up on
Sarah - love teh photos of Lewis, they are all growing up so fast...
Megan - i cant access your photos, asks for email & password as well was so looking forward to seeing some photos of Lee.
Danielle - what you are doing is fine. If it works for you, then stick to it. My theory is that i would rather sit up and nurse Aiden to sleep, then to try to put him down and have him scream and get upset. I have a little book somewhere that i got from the hospital, and also they have them at the community health centre, it pretty much says that at this age, we cant spoil them, as they are to little to understand. All they know is if they are happy, or sad. Its our job to make them happy, and when they are sad, to figure out what it is. Its how they learn to trust us as mummys and daddys, cause they will learn that if they are unhappy, then mummy & daddy will make it all better. Later, worry about spoiling, now, just do what it takes.
I find that Aiden does settle well at night, so, have very few rough nights, and thankfully, when he does take a while to settle, its at 9 - 10pm, when we are still up anyway, not at 4am when i just want to go back to sleep. Touch wood - so far, so good.

Explosive nappies OMG! We went thru a stage i think on Friday, where i had about 3 - 4 nappies where it was down the legs. Eeew. So, i didnt have sultana bran for breaky for 2 days, and no poop at all. So, back to sultana bran, and now 1 really bad, smelly, runny and orange nappy a day. Thankfully, he seems to do it while i am feeding him, which is good, i can hear him going for it.

I think we have had a slight case of reflux. Had a couple of feeds in a row where Aiden would throw up afterwards. But, he is not upset or anything. I just go in a check on him, and notice that he has been sick. Annoying. Scary abit as well, what if he chokes etc on it, so make sure his head is always on his side.
So, to combat the problem, when i bf him, he sucks constant for about 10min, and then starts to stuff around. Once he has had his fill, after the first 10min, we have a big burp session, and then some more. Sometimes will change his bum as well, espeically at night (so i can feed him to sleep). I used to mistake his crying and thrashing abit for being frustrated at not getting enough milk, but, now i think it was wind. And also have now jacked up the front of his bassinate by about 5cm. His mattress was propped abit already, but, since i have started burbing him during feeds, and propped his bassinate up, no more spews.
I had noticed that after feeding, if we held him, or put him in his bouncer, he wouldnt be sick, it was just when he was laying in his bed.

Has had formula 3 times now, the karicare gold. Only for his night time feed. Works wonders at knocking him out. Feed him at 9 last night, took him a little while to go to sleep, about 30min, then he woke at 1.30, again at 4.30, and then slept thru till 9. The night feeds are only about 15min, but, must be just enough to top him back again, and send him back into lala land. He is pretty good at putting him self off to sleep. But, he is awake during the day alot!

Oh, i weighed Aiden yesterday, weighted 4.15kg. His birthweight was 3.585kg. Doesnt seem like he has put on enough weight. What do you think?

    Debbie,
i think aiden is doing fine, just keep an eye on his wet nappies, as long as they r coming out then he isnt dehydrated.
A lot of the time bubs loose weight the first week or two so he might have put on more than you know.

i know ashley is piling it on! lol
    birth - 2.66kg, 4 weeks - 3.82kg, 6 weeks - 4.04kg
