Jo - I like the way you are introducing your solids, leaving it for an hour etc. I think I will try to do the same and see how he goes. DJ loves his rice porridge with apple puree and absolutely loved pumpkin too. I think I will give your routine a go and see how he goes. I think that might be better actually, he is getting much more hungrier now. Finding he is drinking alot more formula now compared to what he has. And yeah on the 2 teats, I was the same, could hear him sucking and he was getting more wind again so that is why I bought more 3 teats today for him, hopefully that will help him. He drinks so much better on a 3 teat.
Skye - great news re: your mum visiting, I bet you can't wait
SJ - went to the mums and bubs thing at my shopping centre and it was just a sell thing... One lady was selling a new wrap she invented, another one was talking about a baby and kids market (which I plan to attend) and the other one was talking about a discount card for shops etc (wasn't really interested in that one). So, nothing new really, was hoping for something I could learn not a sales pitch. Oh well, got a free coffee kehehe
I fed DJ in my fave coffee shop today and as I left they said he is always so well behaved. She said alot of babies that come into the shop cry like crazy but DJ is always well behaved and either sleeps or just sits in the pram with his toys. Was so proud to hear that
DJ was a little quiet this morning, not his cheerful self, wasn't sure what was wrong, but then got home and took his nappy off for 10 mins and he was back to his cheerful self.
anyway girls, better go he is due his feed so waiting for him to wake up.
thanks Jo and everyone on solids. it's so confusing.
I think Jo you arent replacing her bottle but feeding Caitlin in between?
This is what im doing.
he has a 5am feed sometimes (if he wakes up then) a 7, 8 am feed both BF and often falls asleep. when he wakes up, abt 10-11am i give him his meal, solids with about 30-60ml. he eats about the amt of the baby food that's in the jar, maybe more. then he has a sleep. the next feed abt 1pmish, he has 180ml. 4ish,5, i give him a bf, then an hr later solids with some formula 30-60ml.
Before bed he has a bottle and then in bed a BF.
He seems to enjoy his solids more than milk.
Re- teat, i've been using the peritalsic ones, some of them have variable flow. some are normal ones. it;s time to change teh normal ones. The LC recommended these for him over the Avent type ones.
i'm also goign to get a sippy cup.
I have an appointment w his GP on Monday, so will ask this. His excema is healing but has left whitish marks.. poor baby.
Skye - it's very confusing where you are at, at the moment.
Do you think Anth will change in that one month, if he's sincere, maybe you could try to give it ago, if you want. at least for a week. it's so hard for the kids..
shell - hornsby is good, there's a huge westfields there.
trina - oh hun, this is the alst thing you need. go get yourself checkout at the doctors'...
i'm going to go see a chiro when i get back, my body is so buggered.
danni - is jazz take anything for her phelgm, yellow sounds like an infection...
bron - yaay on the high chair
sj - im going to give poopy bread at around 7-8mths i think.
sorry not much personals, i think im getting a cold again it always happens when im about to fly back to Syd!!!
anyway, i have to gloat!!
Poopy's 6mths today!!! 0.5years!!!!! my baby's growing up so quick.
I'm gloating cos, although i've fiddled and farted and struggled with breastfeeding, I've made it to 6mths!! I know he gets formula as well but I never thought I'd ever get this far!!
I told steve I think I deserve a medal, and he said i deserve more than that. I feel so good about myself!
I forgot to mention that the MCHN said I could start him on a cup. I was just gonna give him a bottle with water in it, but she said to go the cup instead.
I might be able to go pretty much from breast to cup with him. Wow.
I was given about 10 Avent bottles & a microwave steriliser all brand new & haven't really used them. I'm glad I didn't have to pay for them.
Most of the teats are 1, 2, & 3 in one. I'm not sure how they work though. Do you have the number you want at the top?? The other ones are 2's.
OMG you should see me trying to clean up this bean bag the kids decided to cut open. I reckon the neighbours are being kept amused today.
I'm vacuuming them, & it takes about 5 minutes to fill the bag, but the measure thing for the bag doesn't go up coz they are too light I guess, so if I'm not quick enough the vac will start filling up too.
Then they are full of static, so they are sticking to everything! Including me & the inside of the vacuum.
I think I've done 8 trips to the bin & I'm not even close to finished!
Then when I get to the bin I have to fight the stupid things to go in.
So much fun. Never EVER buying a bean bag again!! We still have one they can fight over. I just hope it doesn't go any time soon!
I bought Caitlin one of the magmag sipper cups. She doesn't really like the water yet but i will keep persisting! It is very messy at first as the sipper cups flow a lot quicker than teats so be prepared for wet clothes!
skye - i read your post and thot jesse had dropped 8 puppies!! i reread it and then realised it was jess.. :P
sorry to go on about solids, im going ask his gp about his habits when i see him on monday.
i have him a bottle and he drank 120 out of 180. later i gave him some solids, and he happily ate it.
i tried to give him a little milk, the 60 that was left, and he fussed and started to push it out and spit it up. i gave him more solids and he happily lapped it up!
this kid is driving me crazy w his feeding habits!!
I wasn't thinking about the dog when we named him!!!
I did say we shouldn't call the dog Jess incase we decide on that name for the baby, but it was so far off then. I was only just pg when we got her. We always had Jesse picked out for a boy, but when we found out he was a boy we couldn't agree on a name.
We thought we couldn't use Jesse coz of the dog, but we forgot. I wanted Kobi Andrew & had my heart set on it. Anth wanted Harley Kenneth. I liked it for a while, but nah... Anths step dad is Kenneth Andrew, so thats where the middle names came from.
I even tried to slip Kobi in just after he was born thinking he might get caught up in the moment & agree! It didn't work though.
I said how about Jesse then. He agreed, then she asked for a middle name. We had no idea.
I was in the shower a few minutes later when I thought of Andrew. I think they flow well together.
Prama - sorry havent had a chance to update it yet...
Basically they said that babies should be getting all of ther nurtients from the milk until they are 9 months... then they shouldbe dropping a feed.
Thats the resaon that Baby led solids is so great (so they day) as the food at the moment is about texture and taste not really about the food... so if you give them lots of different things to try all at once they can pick and choose.
You are not meant to use a spoon at all... they are to feed themselves totally, this way they learn from day dot to take in the ffod that they require.
Re fussiness the CMHN said that a baby will not intentionally let themselves starve, if you offer a full feed first and then 20 mins later a solid meal - and seriously it is exactly what you eat, like cassarole, or roast, its hard to get your head around at first but after watching the DVD it makes sense... basically you give them a small amount of what you are eating each time (other than whole nuts, rice, peas an corn that type of thing that they could chock on as they are too small)
The thing is, i have no idea exactky how much MJ takes each feed as i dont have a fluid gauge on my boobs :P so she may be drinking less at some times.
I will get to update the thread soon, DSS is here so i have been occupied
Gill Ripley is the person that first founded it... check out this link, this is a short snippit of the DVD YouTube - Baby-led Weaning if you google it you should be able to find more...
The CMHN was saying that DR's and some health nurses will not recommend this way of feeding yet, (unless they have done extra training) as things change so frequently... but they should
Here is some more info on it. Baby Led Weaning | Is Baby Led Weaning the Best Way to Introduce Solid Foods? I would recommend trying to get your hands on the DVD - surely there would be somewhere to download it, it runs for about 20 mins...
HTH - i will update later, have to go and see what DSS is up to, its waaaaaay to quiet
I did some exercise down at Stanhope Gardens with some other mums felt great for doing it then went to Big W and bought some great stuff on sale for DJ. Bought one of those teething feeders, so you can insert a piece of watermelon and close it up so they can't choke on the foods. I haven't tried it yet. I think I will need to think of something that won't create so much mess. I can imagine watermelon being everywhere....
Prama - yeah the girls are now doing exercise on Fridays at Stanhope at same time but I won't be there next week since we are going away on Monday for Byron Bay (can't wait!!!) and we will be back probably on Friday or Saturday night. but yeah my counting was all over the shop and I did the same thing with my aunty disagreed about how many months he was haha no wonder I started his solids early, wooops... haha he loves his solids.
Skye - awww how cute on puppies, I would love to say yes but we already have two dogs....
Teach - re: ecesma cream - I have been using goats milk lotion and I find that works well, so thinking I will get some goats milk soap for bath. I bought another cream but it works and then he has it back again, so doesn't work that great.... I was told goats milk is about the best you can do for it.
Well girls, better go, I am hungry so need to organise some dinner.
