Ohhh i would love to send MJ to a steiner program.
A friend had their daughter in on and it sounded sooooo good
Got MJ's teething amber necklace today, will let you know how she goes.
Been more settled today, but could just be coinidence![]()
The 30 min rule I've never heard of before thats a bit harsh doesnt really take into account family circumstances and you do need your care facility to be a bit flexible. YOu will also need to have somebody else who can be on an emergency list be it a relative or close friend in case you cant get there.Illness, injury accidents etc a more common in child care than at home so be prepared.
Such a pity Danni that you were made feel that way..often you can get very young staff who dont have a clue or staff who have been around forever and feel they know best. Advice yes but judgment know. It sounds like you didnt have a good experience with care at all which is a real pity. Can I ask was it a private centre eg ABC or Pepercorn? or a community based service? ( there is good and bad in all so not judging here just curious)
I'd say dont be afraid to look outside the ordinary care either at such places as Montesori and Stenier preschool etc which have fab programms. Centres that run with an Reggio programme and philosophy can look chaotic but are in fact highly productive ane a much rounder sort of programm so ask if the run any of these and also ask to look at their record keeping and what sort of observations they do of your child.
A good centre can be a lifeline for families and provide much more than just basic care they can be a very valuable resource and you can develop strong and logn lasting relationships with staff and other familes. I ma now looking after the children of osme of the kids I first looked after in the centre..they just keep coming back.

skye - we were told no prawns, shellfish till 12mths cos they can be highly allergenic
bron - i did ask, and the 2 that we're looking at said they dont do occasional care.
not sure about elsewhere, but all teh daycare centres here, that we've spoken to have a penalty rate. if you are late after 6pm when they close, they charge $1 per minute, even if you ring and tell them you'll be late.
we're still deciding which day care, we;ve had our names down since i was 12weeks pg. there's 2 close to us, one's council run and the other private, Active Kids..
is the steiner preschool private?
Thats a bit of a bummer. Yep we have the late penalty too as they have to pay staff if you are late and it costs. I have been in situations where I Have had to call the police after a dad was over half an hour late and had not contacted us though thats the extreme.
Steiner schools are private yes but its a whole philosophy which they are the fmaily to embrace. Its for older children though and realy worth looking for down the road. There are plenty of sites about them and montessori on line in Australia. being in the country the closest one for us in Blue Mountains which is a bit of a bummer really.
Sammie I think a steiner program would really suit you guys just from how you have being doing things with Mj and your outlook on life its an incredibely enriching programm for any child and family really.
Eg a friends son at his steiner programm they grow their own veges and once amonth they research for recipes that use their ingredients. They then harvest and cook and make lunch which is sold . They then have to work out a price and run it themselves and sell the lunch. Using the profits they then decide on how to pay for ingredients and then to buy supplies to re plant their graden. SO maths skills, health and nutrition, co operations, cooking skills, problem solving, environmental issues, etyc etc etc.ALl this form a very early age involving each child at their developmental level.
Anyway sorry again for banging on when our babies are just over 6 months old *L*
Its pouring rain here and did all night and supposed to all day..nice :-) love the smell
prama so glad you found the pnd group helpfull makes such a difference when you are talking to others who are going through it oo. Hope things start looking up take care of you x
Jazz is not sleeping well since a few days after she came home from hospital. When she was sick she was sleeping all the time. Now she'll go to bed at the usual time (about 7pm), then wake up about 9 or 10, then again at about 3am and then she'll take ages to go back to sleep. When she is tired she's started moaning which is annoying coz she'll go back to bed after her 3am feed and can lay there for an hour - eyes closed, moaning continuously! We give her panadol and/or nurophen, I gave her teething gel last night also but still the moaning! At that time of day though we put the cat out, open Jazz's door and turn off the monitor. That way we can't hear her moaning as much but we can still hear if she cries.
Sometimes she wakes at about midnight even after waking at 10pm.
I don't know if she's getting enough milk. She drinks a whole bottle then gets upset coz I don't think she's satisfied. She wont take solids at night coz she's too tired and not interested in anything but a bottle. The formula I buy only gives instructions on how to make up 200ml bottles, is there any reason I couldn't just add an extra scoop and make 250ml bottles?
Danni is Jazz onto step 2in formula or still on newborn? It could take quite a while for her little system to get over her sickness.
our paed told us there's no difference in switching from newborn to stage 2 formula....
jazz will take a few weeks to get back into routine, being sick puts everything out of whack.
will she take rice cereal?
She hates rice cereal no matter how thick or thin it is. Never liked it so I just went straight to normal purees.
Matt decided he will try to look for a part time job. He'll still have Jazz on Fridays but she starts Wednesdays at FDC in 2 weeks. She wasn't going to start Wednesdays until the start of next year but the FDC lady told me yesterday she now has an opening.
Hi all

I find step two a lot grainer and thicker health nurse told me to move him to this dam i wish information was consistant for us all.
Yay skye thats great news you must be thrilled
Re - FF. I've always used Lactogen. Its made by Nestle. There is Nan & Nan from 6 months, made by them as well, but I used Lactogen right up to 12 months.
So, do you think it'll be ok for me to try giving 250ml (5 scoops formula) even though the only instructions are for how to make up 200ml?
I use Heinz formula
Hey girls,
Just replying while at work. Dropped DJ off at childcare this morning and he couldn't wait to get on the ground and play, he just took everything in around the room and smiling away. I think I have made the right decision and the carers are really good. As for an orientation, no he didn't have one, but DJ is good with everyone, any carer and he is fine. He just loves people.
Skye - what great news on the move and that is what you have always wanted wooohoooo
Danni- re: rice cereal DJ only likes it when I mix other things into it. He only likes the Raffetys Garden brand and I always mix either fruit or even a vegetable pure within the rice ceral and he loves it.
Prama - one of the girls in my mothers group went to St John of God and found them to be really good, so maybe try them as well. She said they were fantastic and even went back in from some stress at home with hubby.
Bron - I hope it is just a phase, he gets better though. Just a bit whingey. I have had stomach cramps for last two weeks not sure why, but wondering if he is getting them too and that is what is making him so grizzly. Last few days all he wants is me, continually opening his arms up for me when he sees me or just follows me around the room.....
Sorry if I missed some of you, just looked at the time and got a meeting in a few mins.

danni - best to ask jazz's gp or the nurse, im not sure.. the nurse told us the tin is just a guide for measurement. maybe gp or nurse can advise you how to ease jazz back onto solids...
bron - yeah, i know, even the nurses told us at mothers group that there's no point going onto the next stage.. so u dunno, they all seem to have different ideas...
skye - that's fantabulous news!!!!! you'll on the water and there'll be lots of ppl and you wont feel lonely and how wonderful to have mum around, esp when you need a hand!!!
shell - hope you feel better..and poor dj.. hugs little fella
i jus thad a look at st. john of god, it says it's in perth but will have a better look.
geez, i shaved my legs(actaully hair removing cream) yester and went and spent money on shorts etc for summer. i wasnt going to buy new clothes cos i was so annoyed w my size but it was getting too hot and my old summer clothes dont fit so well. and was going to get poopy some rompers cos yesterday was yest too hot. and now look at the weather!! it's back to freezing..
I've tried that and she doesn't even like it then!
Yay that DJ settled well with daycare! Are you enjoying the break?
I have to admit, I love Jazz to bits, but I think I love her more now that I'm not taking care of her 24/7. By the end of the weekend when I've had her 24/7 I am ready for a new week and ready for her to go back to day care and for me to go back to work. That must sound aweful!
This weekend though she's having her first sleep over. She's staying with my parents from Saturday lunch time until late Sunday afternoon. I'm nervous about it but I know she'll be fine and my parents will love it! Like I said to mum "You're my mum and I trust you completely, but I'm still nervous about leaving her for a whole night" We are going out with some friends and then going to take advantage of a full night sleep and have some mum & dad time![]()
DJ went really well in childcare today, she said he didn't eat much solids at lunch, but there wasn't a long enough break between bottle and solids so that could be why, but just tried to give him some more tonight and didn't eat a great deal. He has a bit of a cold, I gave it to himthat damn cold from last week. As long as he doesn't get mine or Doni's tummy bug I will be happy

Prama - I am not sure but the girl from the mothers group said it was local so not sure how to find it.....
Danni - it is good but working and I find that a break in itself, motherhood is a full-time job, I am loving being back at work 3 days per week, stimulating the brain and having breaks when i want etcI miss my little man but he loves child care and being with my stepmum so that is a good balance. You need the time alone, and Doni and I always make sure we go out with friends etc and get my mum to babysit. she has even offered to look after DJ for an entire weekend in November so we can go away to Melb for the weekend.
Well girls, alot to do tonight, so chat tomorrow on my day off

My poor boy is not himself I think these teeth are about to make an appearance. He is so unsettled and whingy nad rubbing his gums so hard with everything it hurts him. He is usually such a happy easygoing baby and I hate seeing him this way. I Lost it last night and had to ring mum to come put him to sleep he got himself so worked up and I got so upset then when hubby got home the little buggar smiled and played. He just doesnt know what he wants and I hope all his teeth dont give him so much trouble I know its a normal thing but want my happy baby back.
Still no meds can you beleive it..I dont think this has helped with stress levels..count is ok on drugs but got to get off them and soon. My white cells especilaly neutrophils are really low so cant afford to get sick becasue cant fight it off. MUm leave son SUnday too and think I am getting myself all worked up about that and not having the support for 2 months :-(
