I'm wondering, am I bad because I haven't taken Jazz to a CYH nurse like ever? She doesn't get regular check ups, only has a check up when one of her immunisations are due (next one due at 12 months, next week). But I can see that she's gaining weight well and she's a happy little girl, I guess I don't feel the need to get regular check ups, but should I have been?
She tried to take a step on her own tonight. She was playing with Iggle Piggle and was so excited...jumping all over him, hugging and kissing him. I was holding him about 2m away from her while she was standing holding on to an ottoman. She was so excited to see him and just let go of the ottoman and took a step and then fell flat on her face. It didn't seem to worry her though, she just got up and crawled over and gave him a big hug and kiss...best present ever I think (so far)!
I was "walking" IP to Jazz's room and she was following behind. Occasionally IP would stop, turn around and wave and she would crack up laughing.
I am still up can't sleep because I can't breath - damn cold!!! grrrrrr and we have no codrals or anything in the house, so trying a glass of vino to help knock me out for sleep Doni is getting up to DJ tonight if he wakes up..... Last few nights he has been waking every few hours. He has 2 top teeth coming through and another bottom one, so all up he has 5, they are all just coming through very quickly now. Still bothers him at night, he moans in his sleep.
Nothing much else new here, just got a terrible cold and super busy at work so can't take the day off to rest. I am just hoping DJ doesn't get sick because otherwise I will have to take time off since he won't be able to go to daycare. fingers crossed. Been making sure he has his probotics in his bottle every night.
All of these birthdays coming up - so exciting!!!!! We still haven't sent out invites yet, doing that this weekend. We are only inviting family and very close friends so won't be a drama. Just wanted something small - cake and coffee. I am going to make the cake. I can't wait to try it out. I must remember to get all things ready for that. It is two weeks away.... hard to belive my little baby boy is growing so quick. He is soooo adorable right now. I just want to gobble him up.
SJ - DJ's sleep is ok, still having to put him down to sleep...... Have been trying a few techniques, so he is getting better, but just doing it slowly so he doesn't notice what we are doing. Trying not to rock or pat him to sleep for as long as we normally do.... Oh and on the couches, I am getting DJ one of those for his birthday, not sure which one. My sis-in-law said the target ones are better quality..... but I am sure they are all just the same.
Danni - I haven't taken DJ to a health care nurse since he was probably 8 months old I think..... There is no need to really, more for measurements etc which you can get done at the chemist. I used to go more so if there was something I was concerned about in his growth etc.
Prama - how rude of that nurse..... and how cute but frustrating of Poopy. Something DJ would do for sure..... he is a very cheeky boy. Loves to stand up in the bath. He has no fear!! How is Poopy? much better now? Is he loving daycare now? and how are you coping with work?
Bron - sounds like you are sick like me arghhhh so frustrating especially when you have a little one to look after. I would do the same just to get some rest.
SJ - with DJ's teeth cleaning, we have been putting a bit of bonjela on his toothbrush and that is the only way we can get him to brush his teeth and get bonjela on his gums at the same time..... Speaking of brushes, we have to buy another one. DJ was playing iwth it and dropped it on the floor and my dog decided to start chewing on it.... so no more toothbrush.
Trina - happy birthday to Summer since it is coming up very soon or has it been already.... I am all fogged up in the head with this cold so I can't remember.... hope she has a wonderful birthday.
Danni - we go to the appoints as i love getting her weighed and also just touching base, you know reassurance that the fact that her sleep went up the put is normal etc etc. Also when she is weighed, i have always taken a photo of her, its great to compare.
I dont think that you are bad for not going at all. Its not something that you HAVE to do.
Shell we havent been since 8 months as that was the last scheduled one, next one i need to make an appointment for next week - OMG its 5 days til her birthday!!!
I cant believe it, its just crept up
MJ cut another 2 teeth this week so she has 5 now, 3 on the top and 2 on the bottom
Shell with the sleep, i went back to feeding MJ immediatly before bed, so she is quite sleepy, then i give her a cuddle and tell her i love her and that its sleepy time. I give her, her special sleeping toy (that was the best thing, introducing only one toy that was a night toy, she doesnt play with it out of the cot) and then put her down. Initially there was a bit of fussing, but i would stay with her and sing or shush her and pat. This week i have graduated to putting her down and sitting on the other side of the room - facing her but not looking at her. Sometimes she gets upset, so i go over and resettle with a pat and a shush then i move away again. it usually takes between 10-30 mins to drop off to sleep. Its been a hard road and i know i am not at the end of it yet, but at least she is putting herself to sleep now - it has also meant that she settles herself back to sleep if she wakes in the night - so no crying (or not often anyway)
I have found that although this method is taking longer, i am happier with it as she is not so upset and knows that i am there for her.
Has anyone been watching Bringing up baby on ABC? Man its so full on, DH was yelling at the TV last night!
Thanks for letting me know that it's ok that I haven't taken her to the CYH nurse.
I don't take Jazz to the chemist for weighing. I just weigh myself, then pick Jazz up and step onto the scales again and work out the difference. It's not 100% accurate, but it does give a good indication. I need to do it again, I think she's about 12kg now.
I'm taking next Friday off to prepare for her birthday party the following day. I ended up not sending invites as it's only small, I just sent text messages. I'll have to take her for her shots on that Friday... not looking forward to that, plus I think at this age they have them in their arms now. Hopefully she'll sleep a lot.
No injuries in the bath last night thank goodness.
Matt was trying to get her to sleep last night and he said they were having a conversation. He would say to her "you have to go to bed now" and she was responding by saying "no" and pointing to the door, this went on a few times. I think it's so cute and helpful now that she's starting to communicate and let us know what she wants. Not happy that she's saying no though.
She's started saying "tata" while waving goodbye. You just have to say "tata" and she'll stop what she's doing and wave saying it back to you. If she doesn't want us to leave then she'll wave and say "no tata"
Everytime we tell her good girl, she'll clap too. Very cute.
It is not compulsory to go to the MC&HN but when you do take them for their appointments the nurse looks at their development and can look out for any possible developmental problems. Like one of the girls in my MG took her son and the MC&HN picked up that his hearing was not 100% - there were certain things that he responded to and other things he didn't - and he ended up getting grommets put in and now he can hear everything. We also had one of our girls whose bubs head measured large and they sent her off for an ultrasound just to make sure that there wasn't any extra fluid causing problems. I like to take Caitlin for my own peace of mind. I know she is developing well but I like to hear it from someone official!! Mind you at her 12 month appointment she was out of sync on her height & weight so we have to go back as 15 months to make sure she has balanced out again. She was 9.1kgs and 74.4cm tall.
Danni - Be prepared when you take Jazz in for her 12 month injections that she could have a reaction to the measles one. Caitlin was fine with all the other injections but when she had the 12 month ones she was sick for 3 days afterwards with a temp of 39.4 I was thankful that we had her party a week late otherwise she would have been miserable at it.
Caitlin got her 7th tooth on Wednesday and her 8th is close. She now has 4 bottom front and 3 top front. She has bitten me a couple of times in the last couple of days and I am not sure how to deal with it. I obviously yell when she does it because it hurts and she gets a fright and cries so I automatically cuddle her so any suggestions on how to let her know not to do it. I do say no biting in a harsh voice but I am not sure she understands.
Happy Birthday to my little Princess Summer xoxo we are celebrating today so it's still Feb not March. Didn't get her much as IMO they grow out of their 1st year toys too fast and didn't want to waste money on things that she would grow out of in a couple of months so she got a fold out lounge a little plastic ride on bike and clothes. Not having a party at this stage might organise something in a month or so, just too hard and i don't have much money.
Summer is climbing everything she possibly can, she can get on Paige's bed can climb codie's stairs to her bunk and she now climbs the lounge and then climbs up the back and sits right up on top with the cats hehe its very funny but scary as its all floorboards if she falls back. Found her out the back on the 2nd rung of a big ladder too. Anything she can basically dishwasher, ottoman, toys, dog, beds, chairs EVERYTHING.... She has 8 teeth now 4 up top and 4 down bottom and her molars are moving around too, i can feel one at the surface. She is very talkative, i am starting to understand more and more, she knows nose and will point and touch mine when i say it. Sais Daisy, Meow, tries to say all the girls names, Mum, Dad, bubba, kitten and lots of other babble. She is growing so fast i really love this age its the best, they soak up so much info and everything is amazing to them. Well i had better go check what she is doing, she is running now haha
I will come and check back to catch up on whats happening later hope you are all well.
I hope Jazz doesn't get sick from the measels injection coz we are having a small "party" on her actual birthday (1 week exactly).
I'm going to a baby shower this afternoon and Matt's going shopping for a van so he can start working (yay!)
I've noticed that Jazz can reach "down there" now. She doesn't have nappy off time mainly because we're renting and I don't want any accidents, but when I change her nappy, as soon as it's off she reaches down and also if she's not wearing any pants she will pull at her nappy.
I didn't give her a bath last night coz we got home from dinner at about 9pm. Today though I'm going to get some of my paint and put it on her hand and stamp a couple of things, then I'll give her a bath.
I was going through another forum I'm on and found a thread which I'd kept somewhat up to date about my pregnancy. I'm going to print it off (about 21 pages) and filter through it picking out my posts for a journal.
Before I got pregnant, I used to keep a journal really well, up until March 2007 when my Grandma died and then for some reason I just stopped. I decided that I really need to get back into the habit of it again so I bought a nice day to a page diary which I'm using as my journal (good time of the year to buy one, they are on special).
Happy Birthday Summer girl have a fab day.xxxxxxxxxxxx
Prama goo luck with the health nurse I would def make a complaint am sure sometimes they dont realise what an impact they have on mums with the things they say.I can bet she is the menopausal grey haired nurse who has never had kids??? ( very naughty to stereotype but every place has one)*L* HOpe lakshman feels better soon..take care of you too ok.
We had a fun day yesterday have had sinus and ear infection and had to drive to Sydney for hubs bday. We were due to be at a concert at 7.45 FIrst he came home late so we left late..am sure my ear drum burst ocmign over the mountains the pain was excruiating. Then on the freeway the petrol tank appears as empty..cant be had half a tank then the blinkers stop working..ok keep driving weill check when we get there. Then at broadway near the uni at 6.00 peak hour Friday night traffic the car just stops. Thank god we could get over into a bus lane and thank g.od mum and dad were already down here asleaving for a holiday. Poor hubby had to wait for 2 hours to get car towed back to aunts house. We leave WIll with mum and dad who have to be up at 4.30 to go to airport . Get to concert at 8.45 ( see end of support act which was ok) still havent had dinner or anything ( supposed to be Nicks birthday night). We get home at 12 after finding somewhere open to eat. WIll wakes up at 1 then 2 then at 4.30 to say goodbye to grandma and grandpa then stays awake *L*..we are both bleary eyed trying to stay awake while the little buggar is now asleep. Lucky there was an auto electrician around the corner from aunts and he came around started car then fixed it..all for $100 which was great becasue we though it would be about 4 times that. bad news is muffler is rusted through which casued the short *L* so a great start to the weekend but we are off to the harbour for lunch so should be nice. Phew..enough from me. Hope you all have agood weeknd
SHell hope your cold is improving abs are kicking in for me just causing tummy havoc.
I just had an idea for something for Jazz's birthday. I'm gonna get a canvas tomorrow and sometime this week I'll get some paints out and let Jazz get really dirty and do some painting. I want colourful hand and foot prints on the canvas.
Then I'll paint "Happy 1st Birthday Jacinta" on it in either gold or silver paint. Then, at her party I'll get everyone to write a message on the painting, something she can look back on when she's older. The painting will then hang in her bedroom.
thanks bron - she's all taht you described, except taht i dunno if she has kids!!!
so sorry to hear about the car... broadway, that's where i work, just a stone's throw fr broadway shopping centre. office is next to barnaby's church.
danni - that's a great idea!!
poopy was getting better but he has phelgmy again last night so going back to doc on tues.
i feel like crap, think my pnd's come back.
we went out for yumcha at lunch w steve and mil. poopy had his lunch at the table while we had yumcha, and he was in his highchair and most interested in everything. he ate some of our food. he actually asked for more of the green leafy begie - kai lan i think and wanted more and more! i hope he keeps eating his vegies..
Jazz has cut her 3rd tooth and I can see at least 3 others just under the surface which will probably cut through this week.
I just said to her "do you want some breakfast in a minute?" and she responded by saying "yeah" and pointing to her highchair. They're getting very smart now aren't they?!
Sounds like an eventful night Bron! Keeps life....entertaining? when your car dies at the WORST possible time! I've had it happen a few times... Not fun!
Hope you guys get sorted out soon Prama. Sorry I haven't had chance to read most posts on the last page or 2, so I'm going back now to do so. Think happy thoughts I know its not quite that simple, but it can help
Danni - re, down there...Jesse won't leave his alone! To the point that he touches it on things!! Our bed is wrought (sp?) iron & he'll stand there & touch his bits on it coz its cold! I took him to the beach with a friend & it was real cold, he sorta stood on his hands & feet dipping himself in!!
Even my dad commented yesterday about how 'he gives it a bit of a pull around!'
Jo - Jesse's been biting. Its bloody painful! He's not doing it as much as he was atm, but he still does it. I've resorted to biting him back every time he does it coz it was just getting too much. Its working I know you are supposed to just say a firm no, but the shock of it makes me jump, or yell & by then he thinks its funny & saying no just isn't gonna help. He growls & laughs & tries to do it again.
SJ - I'm still just feeding Jesse to sleep. I've been thinking about trying to stop him, but I just couldn't be bothered yet. If he falls asleep on me out here I'll put him straight into the cot, otherwise I feed him in our bed, then leave him there til we go to bed, then move him to the cot. He's started sleeping through til around 5am before he wants more boob. Its good. He'll come into our bed after that most nights. I hope he sticks to this for a while, its good.
Shell - I hope you feel better really soon
Trina - Happy birthday again to Summy!! Ooh, its FIL & Anths cousins b'day too! I forgot, they are Feb 29 as well! Best be making some calls...oh crap, my mobile is broke & at the shop The cousin will have to wait.
OMG!! My baby is 1 in a week!! Dunno whats up with my ticker?? Might go find another one...again! Hopefully it'll get it right!
