Cass- OMG at your cat, did you get the video out? As for solids I think most people after 4mth know when there bub is ready, give him a go and if he has trouble mouthing it, swallowing it (pushing out with tongue) or passing a stool then you know he isn't ready and you can stop. I think the 6mth thing was brought in because a) people were giving solids to babies who couldn't sit up properly and it was a choking hazard b) people were giving solids as the main diet which caused weight loss in babies as their systems are not designed to live solely on solids, their diet should remain mainly milk for the first 12mths (which is why they recommend a BF before the solid meal. c) people were offering young babies things like wheat and dairy far too young which can cause lasting intestinal damage, So they made a sweeping statement that we should all wait for 6mth. As important as it is to wait, you know when Oskar is ready and as long as he is sitting up (supporting his own weight) can mouth the food, isn't dropping any feeds and is processing the food properly (ie when he poops does it look like poop or does it look like carrots/brocholi etc) Having said that before 6mth make sure you watch that there is no wheat, dairy or eggs given as these are the main culprits in causing intestinal probs - which is why we are sticking with pure veges and fruit.
cass_blob - oh lucky you having your mum come up! I would love to have my mum nearby. Hope the move goes smoothly
Cass, You can find out where you local ABA group is on their website (www dot breastfeeding dot asn dot au).. go to "contact us" then "local group" and you just put in your postcode.. I think its a bit off sometimes though as my "local" group is not particularly local!! heeh i love that gummy grin, I'll miss it when she gets teeth. Hmm not too sure on the solids thing. We were told to wait until 6 months because I get eczema and DH has asthma and apparently that means Claire hs a higher chance of having food allergies.. If he is soo interested in you eating, maybe something like farex might be good. I think I'd talk to your CHN. Hehehe animals can be so funny sometimes! Hehe about kicking Andy out of the bed.
Cassblob, yay that your mum is moving back!
Sarah, yay that your neck is much better! I got my first nappy today, its very exciting!!! I think I hve almost won hubby over as well!
Hope everyone is well!

Sarah, I didn't video it... would've been GREAT to send into funniest home video's though... and then I maybe coulda won a REALLY cool prize!! OMG @ their prizes, they're amazing! Anyway, if I'd gotten up to try to tape him he would've jumped down and followed me Thanks for the advice on the solids thing. He's almost 5 months and I seriously think that he's interested in the whole food concept. I did buy some farex, but they only had the banana and pear (I think) for 4-6 months, so I got it. I might make some pumpkin over the weekend and see if he's interested in that at all. I have been naughty and let him lick a bit of stuff off my spoon and he seemed to enjoy so we'll see and also then Andy can see his first go
Karina, thanks for your advice as well. Yeah, I think that makes sense about the allergies. We don't have allergies or anything, but Andy did have asthma as a kiddie but grew out of it. Hmmm... so now I've just written what I did above and then read through what you said again and now I'm thinking...should I wait?? PMSL @ me! Man it's not an easy decision in some ways. Thanks for the website addy too I shall see what I can find!
Andy comes back tonight and I don't know if I should let him or Oskar sleep in our bed with me... hahahahahahaha. I know who doesn't bounce around and hog the doona and it sure ain't Andy!!!!

Hi, thought i'd check this thread out, seeing as though my girl was born March 07. Her name is Sophie. She's asleep at the moment
Thought It'd be interesting to see what other 4-5 mth old bubs are up to...I had a read this page and boy does development vary just within the month!
Sophie is not having solids yet (not until 6mths to hopefully avoid allergies, and hey, why complicate things when BF is so easy and convenient). For the last 3weeks her lower right tooth has been going up and down ,but not yet broken through. She rolled last week, but seems to have forgotton how. She can't sit. She has just discovered how to squeal and the jolly jumper is her newest toy.
That pretty much sums her development up.
Keep forgetting to express after each feed-I'm planning to store a bit for up coming surgery in 2 weeks. Am having op on my shoulder so will make BF very tricky!
Ok, I'll stop back in later and say hi again.
Hi Chels and welcome! Sophie sounds like she is on target with the rest of the bubs in here with her development.
Hi all! I have finally updated my pic, I just lvoe this photo of Nic. My god he is so cute! He has been laughing and yelling a lot today. I had to pop over to the shops to grab a few things, and as he usually sleeps about 20 mins in his pram these days, though it would be fine as I had an appointment to go to at 3.30pm. Anyway, when we got there, he was tired, so I layed him in the pram (he usually sits up these days) and he fell asleep within about 5 minutes. 2 HOURS LATER!!! he finally woke up! I had to keep checking him to make sure he was breathing, but he was snuggled up to his teddy and fast asleep! I just wandered around the shops, had a coffee, wandered a bit more...then I had to pick the girls up from school, so luckily, he finally woke up in time. Such a good boy!
Heylo, i'm not having a good run of thing this pst week, had wisdom tooth pulled out on thursday, then friday had food poisening. Was up all last night throwing up... which makes breastfeeding very diffucult!
Cass - Yea i can't wait to have her back... The solids - the only advice i'd give is you do what you feel right is for oskar and yourself... I'd choose oskar to sleep in bed! hehe,he's smaller!
Izzy had her first swimming lesson yesterday, and the intructor was 5really surprised how well izzy did... izzy even went fully under the water and didnt cry!!! she was all smiles and giggles even when the instructor was holding her!
ohhh theres news pics in photobucket with izzy in her bumbo chair and new tray!
anyways no rest for the wicked gota go feed my darling
welcome Chels and sophie, sounds like sophie is doing fab
Cass_blob - the oragel is amazing OMG I actually just gave the nighttime tube to a fried of mine witha 1 yr old who is cutting his molars and is in terrible pain as the daytime is enought for us. you only need the tiniest bit. My friend actually used it on herself too as she having problems with tonsils she said it was awesome (would have been good for you before your wisdom teeth came through) Hope your feeling better. There is nothing worse than food poisoning (or any stomach bug) when trying to look after a littlie :-(
Caro - love the new photo in your sig of michael - is that from his christening?
Well after 2 days of no sleep we spent all day just trying to get ari to sleep and stay tha way and I have discovered the only way is to cover her head with a blaket (not smothering her obviously) but she is seriously Overstimulated at the moment. Anyway she has been down for a couple of hours without stiring - (praising God almighty for that)
Cass- it's agoinising isn't it! I hate solids, they are messy, take organisation and forward planning, there messy and I'm contantly worrying about what she is eating, how much too much too early etc but she loves it. Pumkin is by far her fav. Potato makes her gag (maybe that's just how I cook it though) she had some banana today with a bit of cereal srinkled on it. I hate that farex stuff have you ever tasted it - yuck but I do worry about iron stores etc so I sprinkle it on her other foods.
OK now I'm rambling, mightgo work on my assignment. Talk soon
PMSL Caro... I just told Andy that several BB girls said to kick him out and he goes pffft...hahaha... oh and Cass... Oskar is sooo much smaller but you know he can take up more room in some ways and he throws his arms out to the sides... very cute though!
Cass, does Izzy like her bumbo tray? Oskar thinks it's cool WTG with the swimming little miss Izzy!!!
Sarah, honey you are having such a time with Ari's sleeping, or should I say NOT sleeping. I feel for you so much and wish I could fix it for you.
Chels, welcome! Love the name Sophie. She sounds like she's doing very well
I gave Oskar not even a teaspoon all up I think of some Farex this morning. He was kinda like... oh this is ok then he was like... hmmm mum I think your boobies taste better than this crap!! PMSL. I'm going to get some pumpkin and just cook up some and freeze it so I can just start to try him every week or so and see how he goes from there. When he's really ready he'll just go for it I'm sure. Well, better go cos I've got to go to the shops to get something for dinner. Sorry, for not many personals, just kinda in a hurry!!
OMG... while I was at the shops I remembered I hadn't told you guys.... no... I'm not pg, stop thinking that!! Anyway, what I forgot was this... yesterday morning... the cat PEED ON OUR BED!! I was SO angry at him I yelled at him so loud and chased him downstairs. I managed to get everything off the bed before it got to the mattress, only just though! We had to buy a new doona yesterday cos it went right through it!! Now, I am seriously thinking over the whole situation and wondering if he's the right pet for our family or is he better suited to say an older couple or a widow/widower so he can be the absolute centre of attention. He just doesn't seem to be fitting with our family the best and I'm quite torn about what to do. We could sell him as he's a registered purebred with papers ragdoll.... it's such a hard situation though but we just can't have him peeing on the beds!!!!!

Woohoo, we went to the shops today.. We bought a cot, mattress and car seat.. yes, we had these things already but they're borrowed from friends who are expecting another baby. The cot is really nice and converts to a toddler bed. We got it at half price.
Karina - OMG I thought you were trying to tell us something in a round a bout way :-) so what did you get, some pics please :-)
Cass- Thanks for thinking of us. We have spent the past two days concentrating on sleeping and today she has had 3 good nap and she slept really well last night too from 7pm to 3am (one wake up when the dog barked - of course I was on the loo)
Sarah, lol. No, not yet. I'd LOVE another bubba, I really would, but I want to give Claire all my attention for now. Maybe another bubba in a couple of years! Gosh we cant even DTD half the time without her crying - its like she knows what can happen after DTD and she doesnt want a brother or sister yet, hehehe. Anyways, we havent got the stuff just yet as we have put it on lay-by, but the cot we got is that dark wood colour (i dont know what its called) and it has a draw underneath so I can put all her linen and stuff in it. We also got the Safe'n'sound Meridian somethingorother seat. We told the lady in the shop "yeah we want the best one you have" and she gave us a strange look and didnt say anything and I say "yeh, so..." and she goes "oh geez I thought you were joking. sorry". The friend who is expecting the baby is on bellybelly, her forum name is Roo, and we thought we would give her back her beautiful Boori cot so she can have it for this next bub. Yay that Ari slept better last night! Feels so much better to get sleep doesnt it! Sorry, but had to laugh at you being on the loo at the exact moment she woke up!
Cass, cute how Oskar likes boobie better than Farex (typical boy??). I still havent tried giving Claire the Farex, but I might try in a week or so. I never knew it tasted gross. I think I had always imagined it would taste like cereal, but i guess it doesnt have all the sugar and stuff in it that other cereals have. Thts a tough one about your kitty cat. I have no idea, sorry.
Cassblob, yay tht swimming went so well! Some of the mums in my mums group take their bubs swimming too and I've been meaning to look into it but I keep forgetting. ok I just checked nd they only strt from 6 months at our local pool! Hope you aare feeling better now. Food poisoning is horrible.
omg Claire ws so cranky tonight. I think it ws because she missed her afternoon sleep or is teething. She screamed hysterically for a couple of hours and wasnt even interested in the boobie . She kept on chomping on everthing so we thought it might have been teething pain and she settled after we gave her some teething relief. I hate hearing her so upset though
heylo all, OMG food has never tasted sooo goood! Lol, not being able to eat without it comming back up for three days really took its toll, i was sooo weak and couldnt go vertical for long. In the end i had to go to the doctor and get a shot of Maxillion, but it worked! But thankfully izzy hasn't caught it, my doctor thing its more to do with the gastro then food poisening... Now i feel the flu comming on! grrr!!~!~!~
Caro - Where do i line up for some oralgel!!! Nice shopping trip!!~!~ i making and freezing all izzy's foods too, so much healthier then the tins, i made her up some potato, carrot and zuchinni last night and purrade it all! it was soo yummy i ended up adding salt and peper to the last bit that wouldnt fit in ice cube trays and ate it my self hehe..
Izzy had a reaction to the avocado - the only food that she has had a reaction to soo far! a made up a spoonful of avocado with breastmilk, and the next day she screamed in pain... so wont try that one for a few months!
Cass - Izzy loves the bumbo tray! The toys actually stay near her! lol i have mentioned im totally in love with this chair havn't i?
sarah - izzy is the same at a friends house the only way she'l sleep is with a blanket or my hand over her eyes! hows ari today?
karina - yea, at my local pool they wouldnt take izzy untill she was 6 months! so i rang up a few other places! and the judy watts was the best on offer, a little pricey... but thats okay, its alot of fun!
hope everyone is getting lots and lots of rain!!!!
Ok, off to have a shower with my little princess! she is laying on me atm, telling me a huge story lol, very cute!!
Caro, Just had a look at your pics-what's a breast feeding necklace?
You lot are so organised! cooking and feezing food for your bubs before they have even started eating solids! If I was clever I'd do the same for my mum to start her on solids in a month while I'm recovering from surgery. How long can you keep veges in the freezer for?
I'm having formula issues at the moment...All of a sudden Sophie won't take it anymore. She had no problem in the past taking the odd bottle of S26 Gold when she's being babysat (while i have me time), but on Sat I went out to lunch with some friends and she flat out refused the formula nanna was trying to feed her! I think I'll try her with a bottle every breakky to get her used to the idea again for when I'm in hosp. I've tried expressing after feed to store for my hosp stint, but she completely drains me at every feed!
I'm worried to express 2 hours after her feed in case I then don't have enough for her next feed??!
Hi girls,
Just wondering whether anyone else has had any issues like this yet.
Sam has been on solids for a little while now, but has started to go off his food and even his bottles. Sometimes he will drink the bottle dry, other times he will be lucky to drink 100ml.
Do you think I am overly worried? Or is he just having a growth spurt? He did this a few months ago but it only lasted 2 days at the most, this time it has almost been a whole week.
I am thinking it is because of his teething and because he is growing so much....
what are your thoughts??
Jen - Nic does this with his bottles too. I think it had to do with getting his first tooth though. A couple of weeks ago, he stopped drinking full bottles (he was having 210mls) and at times, usually his first bottle of the day, he would refuse completely. As he is on solids now, I have been using the rest of the formula to mix in with his cereal, so that he is still getting it into him.
Caro, yeah he is still filling his nappies from both ends lol, so he's ok there. He woke up last night after being asleep in bed for about an hour and a half, and he was pretty upset (he normally doesn't wake up until the next morning once he is down) so I just changed his bum, gave him his dummy and cuddled and gave him a gentle rock and he went back to sleep until I woke him at 7.45 thismorning.
Jo- I hope its just teeth, he has had a runny nose and a bit of a cough but I just gave him some baby demazin and it seems to be going away, but I dunno. I'm taking him to the nurse on wednesday to be weighed etc so I might ask her what she thinks....I feel so helpless, poor little man......
Jen - Nic also had a runny nose and a cough when he got his tooth. He has a cold again now, and I am waiting for the next tooth to arrive! Are Samuels cheeks red? Can you see his gums? Sometimes they look a bit red and swollen and you can see a little while speck on the gum line where the tooth is underneath.
Jo, his cheeks are SO red! I have to put moisturiser on them sometimes they get that bad.
His gums are red raw and DH says he can feel really rough spots on his gums but no white specks yet.
I hope that is all it is, thank you, you have made me feel so much better!!
