Hi Girls!!

Naomi- The ABA ph no is 1800 mum 2 mum. Jemima has been doing the same thing! She is really funny. only during the day and then gets on has the top off a breast or 3/4 of a feed then starts with the pulling off the breast and crying like she is in pain! It's really hard to cope with. I find sometimes the only way to get her back on it to stand up and walk whilst i am giggling and put my nipple in her mouth and she will often settle with the walk/rocking/jiggling and go back on the boob. I agree with you and think it happens more when she is over tired. I have also wondered about taking her to the chiro as it seems to happen more on one side... not sure if it is coincidence or not but hey worth a try....

Amy- nice try with the TT. I'm sure she will do it when she is ready:)

Jacinta- Jemima often wiggles around to different spots on her mat too:)

AFM- well off to the Home birth rally in Canberra tommorow. We r leaving to go after DH goes to work so won't miss any time with him. Today we made a card with her foot prints on it in paint... She hated it!!!! LOL oh well won't do that again:) We went and got our photo's taken today with a few other girls going to the HB rally.. Jemima with me of corse. So she might appear in the paper for the first time soon:) Have to cut that one out and put it in her folder:) I'm looking forward to the rally but also to getting to dress Jemima in warm clothes!!! It is 28 degrees here during the day more often than not and whilst it is great putting her into pretty little dresses, i have lots of warmer clothes she barely got to wear cos winter dissappeared soo quickly.

Thanks BG, Nicky and Bella for your feedback re the feeding (really appreciated), perhaps it is indeed a fussy stage - I hope so then it means we'll get over it soon :) I'm glad to hear its not just Bailey and thats its a 'normal' issue - I look forward to un-bruised nipples LOL

Hi Girls,

Well i just need to say GRRRRRRRRrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!! So as you all know we are going to the rally tommorow. initially we were supposed to leave townsville at 1325 and arrive in canberra at 1830..... got a call yest saying that we would leave at 1630 arrive at 2130, with a drop over in brisbane for 3 hrs so organised for my little bro and dad to drop in and see us for a few hrs at the airport...... then this morning got another call to say leaving at 1720 with only 1hr stop in bris ( making it impractical to have dad and lil bro drive over an hr to come see us) and arriving in canberra at 1030. Getting not happy at this point! Not just had another call saying leaving bris at 2155 and not getting in till 2345!!!!!!! My bub is supposed to be 4hrs in her bed by then! Kinda ****ed cos she/I don't need such a long night. Kinda glad cos i get to see my dad and little bro on fathers day. Cos my sister and i are going together it means that my whole family will be together...except for mum who I don't speak with anyway.

so that's my vent!

Bella: AGH! @ the flights! I am fast asleep by 10:30 usually... so getting in that late'd kill me. At least J might sleep the entire flight :) Jetstar have already changed my flight home from Melbs to half an hour later. I'm really hoping it doesn't go later still before we get to that date.
Have an awesome time at the rally! I tossed up whether or not to go but in the end decided it was a bit too far to drive on my own just for the day. (It'd be 7ish hours of driving return... I like driving but not that much, LOL). I hope you have an awesome time. Are you meeting up with the BB girls for brekkie?

Trill posted in someone else's thread the other day a link to the kellymom site - I haven't asked for permission so I won't post the link, but google "kellymom distractible baby" and there's a whole article on little bubs who pull off the boob. And yes, Phoebe is doing it too. Just this morning she was complaining and latching on and off constantly... I put it down to the flow being too fast this morning (cause I was pretty full on that side) but it could have just been a behavioural thing I spose.
Sorry you are still having a tough time overnight. Out of interest, how much does he sleep during the day?
Good on you and Sean for going on a health kick! I have completely fallen off the wagon this week. Will jump on again soon... remind me next time I complain about being too fat that I ate all that treacle slice - I've only myself to blame. LOL!
Nicky: See, my problem is I AM sick of changing her nappies. LOL. And I know she understands what she needs to do... I guess I just have to wait until she decides to do it.
Cool about the swimming lessons! Does your DS get scared of water on his head in the bath? I swear, washing Natty's hair is an absolute nightmare.

Well, my little bubba has decided the last two nights that she'd rather fall asleep in her bed than in my arms :( I guess it is a good thing (I would've LOVED for Natty to have done it as a baby - was so strictly routine-focussed with her... but she didn't share my focus). I just feel a bit disappointed TBH! Anyway, it's only been two nights, she may well change her tune again.

Bella - What a pain with the flights - hope the rally goes well.

Naomi - CJ has also started doing the pulling off thing, she doesn't cry though just looks up at me and smiles looking incredibly cute! The MCHN nurse says is what she calls "The Awakening" the baby starts to realise is not part of you and being interested in absolutely everything. Is a pain though, one because she tends to pull on the nipple, and two because I am concerned about her weight gain (stupid MCHN put that in my head) so worried she is not drinking enough. I then to just burp her then put her back on again which sometimes works, often it is more towards the end of a feed than the beginning so is prob caused a little by boredom as has already quenched her hunger.

BG - Your Fathers Day book looks fantastic

Nicky - Ouch regarding the teething I am hoping it takes ages for CJ to get hers. I really enjoy the feeding most of the time these days and am hoping I don't get a little biter!

Amy - Treacle slice sounds great, we went to Healesville Farmers/Craft market today and bought fudge which we have already devoured but DH and I both feel a bit sick now - too much too quick I think.

Bridg - Glad the creams etc are working. CJ also out of her capsule as with her brace was too narrow - in a rearward facing car seat. Got a shock when read in paper that new laws coming in saying babies in capsules till 6 months - but was just bad reporting as the new law from Nov is that have to be rearward facing till 6 months so can be capsule or car seat.

Krystie - Like the photos of Kyson on FB, he looks like such a little boy, e.g. CJ looks like a baby because she is so bald but Kyson looks like a little boy. Hope your business venture goes well.

Jess - Hope your exam in Hawthorn went well.

Hi to anyone else I have missed.

AFU - Had a good fathers day today - we also did the foot prints on Canvas thing, was quite easy with CJ because of the brace she can't touch anywhere else on her body with her feet so it wasn't too messy. A friend was here from Mothers Group and did her little girl too but that was much more difficult and paint was spread round more. I did try one hand but couldn't get CJ to uncurl her fingers and she wiped it down her front so gave up on that one. We went to Healesville for the day, first to the market and then for lunch at the Innocent Bystander and then to the microbrewery opposite. CJ was an angel as usual, smiling at everyone and anyone. My mum told me that when I was a baby that my grandma thought some thing was wrong with me because I cried so little, and CJ is the same and I can see why my grandma wondered when I see the other babies at mothers group - I didn't realise it until were around other babies but she hardly cries/whinges at all. I tend to feed her before she gets round to crying (prob because nurse said 7-8 feeds a day and as she is now sleeping 12 - 13 hours overnight, that is a lot of feeds in the day) - and she never wakes up in the morning crying. I go in and either she is awake playing happily with her hands, or she is asleep and I keep going in and checking because am desperate to feed her. I think if I have another baby and he/she isn't like CJ I will be in for a shock!

Bella - Grrrr re the flights. We are going to the Gold Coast in Nov and flying Jetstar home and they have changed our flights too, but luckily for us they are actually a better time (hopefully it stays that way!!!!). Hope you enjoy yourself at the HB rally today

Amy - that article was really good, its pretty much described our issue (although as well as coming off and smiling, Bailey comes off crying as well), but its good advice for me to offer the boob more often to 'compensate' for the shorter feeds. Thanks for that. Re Bailey's sleeping through the day - A normal day for us is that he wakes about 700-730, Naps about 9am for 45mins, Naps again about 12ish again for 45mins, and naps again around 3ish. He's then normally awake until bedtime (which is about 6pm, maybe 630pm at the latest and then sleeps through (apart from feeds) until 7am-ish again. He is quite alert at the 430ish-am feed but I can get him back to sleep within 20mins (wheras the other night feeds he falls asleep pretty much as soon as he comes off the boob) but I usually put him in bed with us at this point. So normally 3 x 45 min day sleeps, occasionally a 4th. Having said that he has been asleep for just over three hours now - LOL, we did have a big day yesterday - my house is sparkling this morning!!

Vic - Cheers for the heads up re "the awakening" - makes perfect sense. I am taking Bailey to be weighed on Wednesday as just want to check all is good seeing as he is feeding like he is currently. He is filling out clothes etc but wouldn't mind knowing what he weighs now, last weigh was around 5.5kg. I think I suffer for the opposite as you - I might be shocked with how easy it is next time - I think I was suffering from 'parental ignorance' before Bailey came along and thought it would be much easier than it is LOL. So knowing all that I know now and being so used to waking frequently through the night I 'might' get a pleasant suprise if we have Bub No.2 (however having said that they I will have a toddler AND a baby so I take that back completely!! LMAO :ROFL:

Well, we ended up cancelling the picnic as it was sooo windy so I took Sean to the Port Club (My Crow supporter side of me felt like I was in alien territory LOL) where we had an awesome lunch and moved into the lounge bar to watch Collingwood v St Kilda. Bailey was sooooo good - he enjoys being out and in other places just like we do so is normally distracted and happy checking out wherever we go and Daddy had a great first fathers day. I took Sean and Bailey to see the IL on the way home so we could give Pop his fathers day present. As normal we couldn't get through a visit with the IL without some kinda stupid comment - apparantly the MIL is writing down some of the 'non standard' things we do eg like putting Bailey in bed with us so she can remind us of them when we complain about them in years to come - WTF??. I politely explained to her that there is no nicer way to wake up than to find your baby lying next to you smiling at you :D I wish I had the guts to write a book entitled "So you think YOUR MIL is a PITA?? ........" LOL

I'm thrilled for you that CJ is such a happy baby! I am sure she wouldn't be happy if you weren't feeding her enough (stupid bloody MCHN!). I believe because I was so caught up in routines (esp 'feed-play-sleep') with Natty, that she was a hungry, overtired baby. Course it could just be that she was VERY cranky in temperament, but in hindsight I reckon I just didn't feed her enough. You never know, your next baby may very well share CJ's contented temperament - sounds like a family trait. Glad fathers day was good for you guys.
Naomi: FAR OUT, I don't even know your MIL but I already want to smack her in the chops. I am amazed that you have the strength of character to put up with what you do.

Glad the article helped. Must say, I still haven't gotten around to reading it all but I'll get there eventually. Bailey's sleep patterns sound not dissimilar to Phoebe's... even the occasional long-ish nap. However I still don't know how to get her into bed that early. Even if she falls asleep around 6, she only dozes and will sleep for a max 25 minutes. It kind of suits me ok that she goes to bed later atm, only because Natty demands my full attention for our nighttime routine. (I haven't even established a nighttime routine with Phoebe yet, LOL! Feeling pretty slack on that front.) But I don't want her to still be going to bed late when she's older. Not sure how to change it... I'm really hoping she'll change the pattern herself over the next few months.

We had a nice fathers day too, although didn't really do anything! Went to church then had a coffee at my mum and dad's before they left for a holiday up the coast, then came home. DH just wanted to kick back, so I made him a nice lunch while he played silly-buggers with Natty and later we had Chinese for dinner. So funny, FIL ditched us for his Bridge Buddies, LOL! So we caught up with him briefly at church then he went and played with his mates. *Shrug* These parents who have better things to do than hang out with their kids ;)
Phoebe slept all night last night. This morning I was sooooo full that I expressed a bit. Intended to just get comfy (so didn't bother sterilising the pump) but before I knew it I had almost a bottle-full! All I could think about was Vic drinking her alcoholic breastmilk :rofl: So I decided I wouldn't chuck it and I had it on my cereal and Natty had half BM and half normal milk in her cup. DH was a bit grossed out, LOL!
We're having a big storm here... Might get off the puter now!

Before I forget, for anyone whose bubs are going through a pulling off, unsettled at the boob phase - I have found that some necklaces my mum gave me for feeding have worked really well today - CJ plays and looks at that and pulls off significantly less. Mum got them in the UK, but is just quite a big loop interesting looking red, black and white beads with some animal shaped beads in them to make it interesting. I had put them away as mum gave me them when CJ born but she was never very interested but thought would try again today and she was fascinated by them gripping it moving it in front of her eyes, waving it about etc.

Oooh, good idea, Vic. Phoebe likes looking at brightly coloured things - I have a couple of stripy bonds jackets that she LOVES. ;)

Vic- Its good to have a settled happy baby. From memory, Jake and Zac were pretty happy, and Logan seems to be happy when someone is around. MCHN's do have a reputation for making mothers (especially 1st timers) feel like they arent doing a good enough job. CJ looks and sounds like she is growing well, and is a happy baby, so just ignore the stupid MCHN. Glad to hear Fathers Day went well for DH. Looking at ur pics on FB, he looked like he had a blast!

Amy- Im with u re not knowing how to get bubs into a bedtime routine. Jake and Zac have one, and Im hoping Logan might just fall into one. Glad to hear u had a great Fathers Day too.

AFU, Well Ive been wondering how Bella is getting on at the HB rally. Ive changed Logans formula, as he was seriously fluffing with his feeds and was unhappy. Since being on the new formula (since yesterday arvo) it has made a big change. He's now feeding every 3hrs and actually finishing off a bottle. He slept from 9.30pm last night til 8am this morning, so it was nice to get a big sleep. He's been trying to pull himself up when I put him in his car seat. This morning he HAD to sit between Jake and Zac and watch cartoons with them. When they left the room, he cracked em, but when they came back, he was all smiles again.

I haven't posted in here since waaaaaay back when we were all about 5-6 months pregnant... there are some familiar names in here and some new but I just really missed having a group of gals to talk to about the day-to-day stuff of mummyhood!!

We had our baby girl on 28 May... a big lass... induced forceps delivery... man, wasn't that fun NOT!! hahahaha!!! Nah, it was great after the epidural that they gave me in prep for theatre just in case the forceps didn't come through. All that feels like a lifetime ago though!

We have been really lucky so far... she sleeps well, feeds well (bf) and is just so much fun!

How is everyone going? Hope y'all don't mind me popping back in! :)

Naomi - Just kickbox your MIL to the head. If only it were that easy. This is the start of many many stupid comments you will get from many many people who think they know better than you because your 'only a first time mum'. I think you should start your own ilst of stupid things people say to you, and get the little man to read it back to them when they are older.

Have had to give Allira some brauers teething releif tonight. She wouldn't take boobie or anything, poor little girl. I hope these teeth are quick.

Hi Girls,

Well this has to be quick cos I only gort off the plane at 11pm tonight and am knackered but still needing to chill down after really long, exciting, and full on days on sunday and today cos of flight delays and the rally itself! Jemima was a perfect star!!! She was sop well behaved even tho we got into Canberra at 1230 last night!! The people who gave us beds for the night were strangers to me and my sister but they were so lovely, picking us up from the airport. The man Cliff even bought a nappy which his wife made him bring for me just incase I ran out due to all the delays.. So cute. I had about 12 so was fine, but had a little chuckle at how sweet and sincere they were! Today Jemima was happy in her sling all day and woke and played with me for short periods b4 going back to sleep really quick. No crying on any of the 4 flights in 24hrs!! just the occasional whimper which was quieted with a boob. J got her picture taken by a reporter for the sydney morning hereld at one of the aba change tables they had set up cos the reporter had never seen a change table at a rally b4! So i'll be checking to see. i kinda doubt it but who knows.

The rally was great and it was all a very inspiring 24hrs. Hey KAT- i met Rhea Dempsey and she explained to me "aspirationally naive" over b'fast!!! Very cool. I get what you mean. I think i was a bit of that plus and bit take it as it comes. :) some work to do there!

Naomi - your MIL needs a serious wake up call - honestly - who gives a fig if you do things your way - you do what works for you and DH (and bub of course) and everyone else can go to buggery! grrrrr. she is a major PITA! i've had a couple of "do you think that is going to cause problems" kinda questions, but i just say "well, if it does, we'll deal with them when they happen". i think people of your MIL's generation tend to think you need to use "hard love" for a child to help them grow up with respect and boundaries - i know my own parents have mentioned that attachment/gentle parenting is responsible for some of the issues in society with teens running roughshod over their parents - i am VERY quick to remind them that hard love didn't work with my bro - he used to sneak out of the house and get drunk and do stupid stuff at 14 - and now, at 31, he is still a rebellious turd lol. i think it's more society as a whole, with the "you can't make me" attitude - social workers who will go in and demand parents hand over their kids possessions so they can move out just cos they're not happy with discipline etc (seen it happen to friends and their DD - was awful). anyhoot - after all that waffle lol - feel free to whinge about her in here. ooh, and when your little boy grows into a well adjusted young man, respects his elders and all that jazz, and your MIL comments on it, remind her of all the "non standard" things that made him who he is lol

and geez - if co sleeping is non-standard, your MIL needs to open her eyes to the ways of the world - co-sleeping is what is most natural - look at all the third world countries and things. i guess she'd find me rather non-standard too! we co-sleep part of the night (well, the early morning anyway), breastfeed on demand (anywhere i need to) and use cloth nappies. what a shocking child i'm going to have later on!

AFU - big few days. DH got home friday arvo and, after a quick shower for both of us, bath for E (she CRACKED it big time) and a feed for her, we went to my bro's for dinner for his DD's birthday. E wasn't her normal self - very upset little poppet. had all these people telling me what i should be doing with her - in the end i snapped at one saying i knew the problem (she hadn't pooped - she had a pain) and i couldn't force her to do it - she had to do it in her own time! eventually she did (SIL's mum gives us all the shiats - E is no exception) - a rather large explosion but a much more content little girl afterwards. i'm getting sick of people commenting on the "red head temper" - yes, my DD has a temper - but ffs people - think outside the square! she wasn't cracking it cos she wanted something she couldn't have - she was in pain! grrrrr. i think she picked up on the fact that i was a bit on edge too. DH is essentially estranged from all of his family apart from his two young great-nieces. the girls were there, but so were their parents. their dad (DH's nephew) isn't too bad - but their mum makes Naomi's MIL look like a fluffy white bunny! she is horrible. some of the things she has said and done are beyond unacceptable (like dragging a seven year old into an adult argument. like telling people that i lied about miscarrying for attention - ummm hello - why would anyone do that??). all over money - they wanted DH's brothers estate when he died, didn't get it - so they have spent over 4 years making life hell! anyhoot, E is 14 weeks and Friday was the first time she was in the same room and got to see her. thankfully E has great taste, seen her and turned her head away (good girl!) but when she was upset, i could hear K sitting on the couch behind me giving a running commentary to her youngest DD about what E was doing, what i should be doing, blah blah blah. peeved me no end - i was sooooo close to telling her to rack off - but got called for dinner instead so went and sat in a corner with my sleeping girl and ate dinner and ignored her! sorry for the whinge - she just annoys me!

Sat was pretty quiet - shopping in the morning (E self settled in the pram for first time shopping - yay!), up to friends to watch footy in the arvo. nothing exciting - just a really well behaved little girl

Fathers Day we woke early and sent daddy out of the room - put E in a little jump suit that said "Daddy is my hero" and made the photobook for him that everyone has probably seen on FB. E went back and had a huuuuuge morning sleep so cooked DH a big breakfast. lunch was left over fried rice (mmmm yum) and then dinner was roast that i managed to (almost) cook myself! E was such a good girl.

DH went back to work yesterday, and demon child returned - she was tired yesterday arvo and looking for Daddy and he wasn't there, so i had to hold her close to me so that she'd calm and sleep. she wasn't hungry, she just wanted cuddles (and daddy gives cuddles but won't make a tired poppet sleep!) - slept for 90 minutes in my arms, which isn't bad - apart from the fact she wanted to be held firmly - every time i relaxed she stirred and cried in her sleep - at the end of that 90 minutes my arm was dead lol. she seemed to have a pain too - my little poppet used to poop every morning, now she may not poop til late in the day if at all - so it's gotta be hurting. she's still wetting heaps though, so i'm not worried that she is unwell - just her little body is changing it's habits

i've been awake now for a couple of hours. she didn't wake me - my damn bladder did! but she was stirring, so we had a cuddle, drink, nappy change and play, more drink and back to sleep she went. i'm hoping to head to a meet up down Melbourne way today, so got myself up and showered and ready to go early - now just waiting for her to wake so i can feed/bath/dress her for a big day out. going out for surprise (late) fathers day dinner for my dad tonight (taxi driver - worked sunday night) so it will be a long day - but E seems to cope pretty well with long days if we've had a home day the day before, and another day to recover after.

must away and read the rest of the forums, then pack nappy bag ready for a loooong day! will be my luck she'll wake up in a foul mood and the notion of travel will disappear!


ooooh - on the mention of meet ups - are we still meeting next week? who's coming? and are we still going to collingwood? never been there and not a lover of Melbourne driving, so if it's only Melbourne girls and me, can we move it kinda south east a little??

I'm just about to take the kids to school, but had to quickly post to let you girls know that Kyson laughed properly for the first time last night! It was the cutest sound I've ever heard!!! I managed to get him to do it 3 times in a row, and DH got to hear the second two :)

AFU, Logan has been sleeping about 11hrs a night. He now HAS to sit upright whether it be in the pram or on someones knee. He's starting to dislike tummy time, so I should really put him on his tummy more and get him used to it.

Re the meet up this month, I wont be able to make it, but I WILL be coming down in November.

I am still up for meeting next Tuesday, and I have no problems with moving the location south east if suits better.
