Nat - wow I wouldn't be changing that feed / sleep routine .
Dee - glad you found something that is working for Ethan.
Nelly - I'm with you on the sleep deprevation. It is horrendous! Pete got up with me last night to comfort and soothe Xanthe before and after her feeds and it made such a big difference. When is Daggles going back to work? Can you still make it next sunday?
AFM - we *finally* had a night where Xanthe slept at least 3 hours every sleep. So even though I woke up three times between 10 and 6, it was OK.
Dee - wind is the worst! I'm using Infacol. I asked the midwives if I could. One said no, but another said they have to use it on the premys to bring up their wind... So i thought, blow it I'm using it. I had tried the bruar one with Amelia and it didn't work for her. It's funny how differant things work for differant kids hey. Any glad to hear that Ethan was able to toot like a champion for you, must have been a big relief for him
Oscar - I know, I'm thanking my lucky stars for this baby! I have learnt tho that if I don't give him a full feed at 1am or if I'm too lazy to wind him properly, he wakes up in an hour. I takes me a good 60-80mins to feed him, wind him change him and snuggle him. He's not the fastest feeder. I have a tonne of girly DVDs stacked near the player to watch when I wake up... helps the time pass and I don't get so impatient with how long the whole process takes.
I don't think I'm doing anything particulaly right tho. I'm just very lucky.
Nelly - I hope you were able to sleep while they were gone. You do need your rest
Again - thanks girls for the weights... I'm still updating. I should be able to get online a few times today since its storming. So we shouldn't have any visiters *touch wood
I still have to fill out Phillips birth certificate forms and mail them out... I hope no one else has forgotten either

Look after yourselves ladies. Sleep, stuff the housework and don't worry about the visitors (make them make you a cup of tea then hand them the baby so you can drink the whole cup while it's still hot.)
All good here. I'm feeling like I'm a little more in touch with what K is doing and running with the feed, play, sleep routine. I've even had some success with self settling, where I put him down awake, he usually cries a couple of minutes later, and I go to him if he works up to a good cry, settle again, then he usually settles himself. Saying that, it doesn't work all the time (like at 2am this morning) Ah well - he's asleep now and a little angel. How could I be cranky?
Is anyone else spotting fresh blood from the bottom after doing a #2? I don't know if it is stitches or something else. But it hurts! It has only just started happening the last two or three days.
We're going good, the past 4 nights he has slept 5 hours, then anohter 3-4 hour sleep after that, which is the same as what Milo did, so Im hoping that it keeps up.
That said whe have some shockers of afternoons with the cluster feeds.
To whomever said their bub was awake 5.5 hours..Milos record as a newborn was 12 hours straight of being unsettled and crying. Lucky for me my mum was with me and we took turns to try to soothe him.
MCHN came on Tuesday she seems nice, I am going to get Oscar weighed on Tuesday next week so we'll see how much hes gained.
Im going to go to bed now and try to get some sleep before the milk bar opens again
Nat, Thomas was 7lb 15oz. Been thinking about you and your Grandma - my Grandma was buried on Tuesday. My sister and I were able to send flowers, at least.
Rayray, I'm monstrously jealous hearing about babies sleeping for long periods. The longest we get is four hours but it is from 8pm until midnight, and I'm not able to go to bed until 9.30pm at least (the other kids need me). After that he's up every two hours at *least*. I am shattered. I hope this doesn't keep up for too long.
Nell, I'd love to stuff the housework but with all the other kids in the house, I'd be swimming in mess by now if I did. Dh's idea of tidying up is often just to shove the mess to the outside edges of the room or tidy up the piles of stuff that needs to be put away! I had a real go at him the other day - he's treating his month off like it's a holiday for *him* rather than helping me. And if he tells me how tired he is one more time I'm going to kill him. It sounds like you are doing well with the self settling, it's a great habit to get into! Thomas does that most of the time at night, he isn't fully asleep when I put him in his cot, but settles him self off (with some very odd snorts!).
Oscar, not sure what you mean but I've had a gastric upset the last few days and my lochia has freshened up to bright red again quite badly since then. Not quite sure why.
Nelly, when do you have to go back to work?? Not too soon I hope! Hope you recovery from your c/s is smooth
Dee, great about the Brauer stuff working. We used Brauer a lot with dd3 who had reflux and their products were the only things that seemed to work. I don't even believe in homeopathic stuff but it jolly well worked so what would I know??? LOL. I saw that co-sleeper bed and wondered how it worked - it looks like a great compromise for people who aren't comfortable co-sleeping. Oh, and I went to Target and got a swing - but when I got it home it didn't work! So we took it back and bought a new one, and got it home and it didn't work either!! So we're back to Target today and I'm going to have to figure out what to do. I need *something* so that I can get dinner made at the end of the day when all he wants to do is cuddle and I can't cook with him in the sling.
TM, I'm assuming you are home and enjoying your wee one right now Glad things went so well for you.
Roses, those inconsollable crying jags are the worst, aren't they? We haven't had to worry with young Thomas who shuts up as soon as he smells a bosom, but with dd4, my dh would spend hours walking up and down the hallway with ear muffs on trying to settle her down.
Has anyone else had an attack of the blues? I have felt really down this week, and I'm feeling a bit concerned. I've put my dose of antidepressant up to the proper dose now, but I'm still feeling irritable and a bit zombie-ish. I miss the high I had in the first couple of weeks, and I'm feeling a bit panicky at times too. I get these horrible obsessive thoughts about harm coming to the baby and it's like I'm lifted out of normality and actually put *in* the scene of the horrible thing happening. I think I need sleep more than anything.
I've got my dental surgery booked in for the 1st July - I'll have to pump and dump for a few hours after as I'm having a general anaesthetic. The dentist said I wouldn't be able to b/f for 24 hours but everything I've read says once I'm not sleepy, the drugs shouldn't be affecting the baby either.
re baby blues: last night was the first night since I came home from hospital where I havent burst in to tears somewhere between 6:30-8:30 and sobbed uncontrollably. Taking it a day at a time here.
I has on cipramil before I was pg with DS, and having cognitive behaviour therapy so if I do get down they need to decided whether its PND or just garden variety D&A
Not much else to tell, feeding is gradually improving i think, he seems to be better at it during the day than at night when we're both more tired
TMTM - that's no good that ur getting so down, but rest in knowing it is normal. My friend was having those harm thoughts and freaked out coz she knew she loved her baby and would never harm him but just the fact sif was having them scared her so sif hospitalised herself. Is there a doc or someone u can talk to, to get u thru it? Damn hormones really can suck!
What swing did u get? Was it not connecting together or not swinging once it's put together? I had trouble putting mine together but turned out I had one of the bars for the seat back to front! lol
We had a much better night last he only woke at 1am 4am and 7.30am he slept in his basinnett from 10pm till 4am then I did have trouble settling him at 4, but I put him in between us in the co-sleeper bed awake and he settled himself then!
oscar - if you are bleeding from your bottom you probably have haemroids (so bad at spelling). sometimes they are on the outside and someties on the inside. see your dr to check though

Rayray, I'm sorry to hear you've been having a rough time of it too. Are you going back on the Cipramil? I'm so glad I stayed on the Zoloft - by this time with the babies I haven't been on medication with, I've been an absolute mess. I still can't bring myself to bathe the baby most nights (all I can see is his face slipping under the water and him drowning) and I can't carry the baby in the shopping centre, because all I can see is me dropping him over the railing to the floor below! But I'm quite cheerful most of the time. With the feeding, it is so hard to concentrate on position and attachment when you are half asleep, isn't it?
Dee, thanks for the reassurance. When you've had a mental illness it is hard sometimes to differentiate between what is the normal highs and lows, and what is "illness". And you can get a bit paranoid about it... With the swing, we got the Bright Starts one that was $96 initially. But today we decided to go with the Fisher Price rainforest one that was $116 (down from $149) and it works, thank goodness I can't wait to try it out - I'm on for cooking dinner tonight so we'll see!!
How many good wide awake times are you getting with your babies? Thomas probably only has two - in the morning, from about 6am to about 8am, and then he naps and feeds on and off all day, and then he has a good solid awake time in the late afternoon until bedtime. He's having a really long solid sleep in the morning (well, long by his standards, an hour and a half) and then another really solid sleep in the afternoon for the same, and then the other sleeps are short naps interspersed by his interminable feeding. During his awake times he likes to play on his mat - there's a dolphin on it that he particularly likes and has started to take a swing at pretty reliably. He also loves his nappy free time so he gets plenty of that.
hey guys me again
last night was a little bad he had wind and wouldnt settle but its all good now back to sleeping between feeds can't wait till he's awake more loving being a mummy getting used to no sleep at the moment the MCHN was supposed to come today but hasn't turned up ??? oh well i'm sure she has a good reason i'll have to give her a call oh well
TMTM - My friend prob didnt need to be hospitalised but she just couldnt explain where these thoughts were coming from. She's much better now that she understands it and now wants to help other mums who go thru it. If u want to speak to her I'm positive she would love to help u. She's on my fb. Shr's a beautiful girl I've known her for about 6 yrs. She looked and seemed so happy, I had no idea she was suffering pnd till after she got out of hospital.
Sometimes speaking to someone who has been there before can help reassure u. She was having very similar thoughts to what ur describing!
Ur a wonderful mother and it will pass!
Also if anyone else feels the same way and would like to speak to my friend let me know!
so many mums go thru it, and u shouldnt face it alone. Support can do wonders but not many ppl understand it.
Nat - how did ur cards turn out?
Ray - I get teary too sometimes, I put mine down to being tired and seeing my baby in pain that I couldnt fix. If it gets worse it couldnt hurt to see ur gp. I know its a common thing after birth with hormones in overdrive but u want to learn to control it before it turns into something worse.
nappy free time??? s(&* !! how long should I be doing that for. should I just pop him on his tummy or his back under the gym and lie down with him? questions questions! panicky first time mother issues! LOL
Well I jinxed myself by saying Phillip was a good sleeper... last night was ROTTEN! But I think it was the carry over from us being in a storm and dealing with a black out for over 10 hours! The power went out yesterday just after lunch and didn't come back on til 10:30pm!!! Crazy right? Luckily we have a gas cook top so I was still able to cook some dinner, but we were burning every single candle we had since it was dark from 5.
But yeah, DH insisted we give him his night time bottle at 7:30 instead of 9... big mistake. He woke up at 11pm and then it was every 30-50mins after that. Just really unsettled and lots of lower tummy wind (Damn that chicken and corn soup!)
So feeling a little zombie ish this morning, but after a lovely cup of coffee, I'm back on top of the world again
Bit sad tho... Phil is already in his 000 rompers. All those gorgeous 0000 suits I bought 2 weeks ago are already too small!
They grow up too fast!
Nellnell - Isn't it funny, all the bad stuff gets completely forgotten when they sleep. I think a sleeping baby is one of the most beautiful sights life has to offer
Oscar - Yeah I had an internal one too... really hurt. Not much they can do about it unfortunatley. Try and get some more fibre into your diet. I just took Psyllium husks for 3 days. Haven't had any trouble with it since. But you have my sympathy - it's ouchy
Rayray - I actually winched when I had to type in Oscars birth weight..... Ouch! Well done you!!!
I hope your blues fade away
Dee - Can I ask what the co-sleeper is called? Maybe Pete wouldn't be so against him being in the big bed if it was safer. He's worried that I'll fall asleep and smush him By the way - how are the boys coping with Ethan? I bet they adore him right?
Oh and I haven't done them yet! Arghh... we got side tracked with the black out I didn't want to dirty him while we had no hot water to clean up with afterwards. You see, we just had a new solar hot water system installed that day before in the after noon... then it was overcast and storming... so no hot water! I'll have to sort them out this weekend tho. I want to put them in a parcel for my mums birthday next week.
Toomany - I've had 2 hits of the blues. Really pathetic things that sparked them off too. First one I cried the whole way home after a shopping trip because I couldn't find any baby bloys clothes that I liked. Its so hard! Buying girls clothes is easy - everything is gorgeous! But totaly silly right?!?
The next thing was after family dinner, everyone was gushing over how cute my SILs 6 month old is and my other SIl which hadn't met Phil yet didn't even ask to hold him. Even DH was Cooing over the other baby. I was just really hurt that the other baby was getting so much attention and my gorgeous little man was being left out. Again - completely silly!
So I chalked both cases up to tiredness and hormones.
I havn't had anything like your panic attacks tho - I hope that gets sorted asap. I'll be for you. Oh and thanks for your kind words about my Nanny. I'm so sorry for your loss
Oh oh oh - I have some slightly exciting news - I have finally pick my nursery theme for Philllip! I have fallen in love with this quilt set Natalie Mirco's Photos | Facebook
Then I'm going to make the walls blue and paint clouds all over the place with a kite floating away in the corner - I'm so freaken excited!
lol Roses - yeah, I didnt start nappy free time with my other 2 until they were about 2-3 mths old and could hold their heads up, I just put them on their tummys on the mat for about 30 mins at a time, sometimes longer depending how they were going, but u can put him on his back and hope he doesnt squirt... lol theres not really any rules with it, just go with the flow. It just helps keep nappy rash at bay.
JwithJ - glad ur enjoying being a mummy!
Ethan has been only having long day time sleeps when I cuddle him, trying to break that habit now. It started when he was getting really bad wind and upset tummy. I'm thinking of putting something down my bra so it smells like me and putting it in the basinett but dont know what to use that wont be a suffocation risk. I thought of using one of his little teddies but not sure if thats a good idea???
Nat - what a gorgeous set... I have seen on ebay stick around clouds (if u dont get time to paint them). The co-sleeper is $50 atm from Target it's called Deluxe close & secure sleeper. It's brilliant! especially with the nightlight on it, means DH doesnt get woken up by the lamp.
How annoying about the blackout... and the rough night! I hear u on that! lol
The boys are great with him. Tye is excited about helping me bath Ethan tonight. He puts the nappy's on too loose tho... lol pick Ethan up and they fall off... he's too delicate with him...
And I cant believe the midwife weighed Ethan last week 3.6kg and yesterday she weighed him and he was 4.6kg!!! Bubba loves the milkbar!!! hahaha He is also going into his 000 rompers now too. Not many 0000 that he still fits into!
Does anyone elses baby grunt really loud for attention??? lol Ethan is doing it now...
hi guys sorry i have been MIA
jade is just beautiful but big lot of baby blues here
or maybe its DP blues lol
she feeds for ages (over an hr, sort of feed for 10 mins, wind, nappy, feed, wind, feed, another nappy, all the while she falls asleep and have to keep waking her cause MW said u should stuff them so they sleep longer) and she sleeps 3 to 4 hrs at a time which is great but shes HATEs not being on me...the last two nights (since weve been home i sleep on the couch after feeding her (with my dislocated coxic it is painfull as hell) but she sleeps well...today i popped her in the peanut shell sling and she fell asleep it was so good i got 3 loads of washing done and swept the flooes but DP is being an absolute butthead whinging he gets no sleep, and had a hgue sad caus my mum came over yesterday and helped around the house and he said hed do it but i knew he never would
uhh im the one feeding her with a dislocated coxic bone and still doing all the housework, buddy, grrrr
so had a huge cry to my mum on the phone this morning but after taking my anti inflammatries and panadol and feeding jade im feeling abit better, off to docs in an hr to see if i can get any painkillers, i was on morphine oxycontin and tramadol in hossy for the pain and they sent me home with only panadol and anti imflammatories and am in agony mum got me a inflatable ring tho which helps
BF was hurting so much but mum got me nipple sheilds which are AMAZING
and oscar i also have spotting when #2 gonna ask at docs caus worried i may have done muscle damage when i busted coxic bone
sorry no persies im stuffed but jade is the most beautiful girl ever and so much hair!!! just wish her daddy would help out abit
Emma sorry its been hard for u, but it does get better. U and Jade are still getting use to eachother and working things out. How annoying about dp, my ex was the same! Men just dont get it!!! They complsin about lack of sleep but we are the ones who use all our energy being pregnant, giving birth, then right from that moment we breastfeed and wake up several times during the night. sure they might hear bub cry, but they arent the ones sitting there feeding, burping, changing and settling at 1am, 3am. 5am etc.... Grrrrrrrrrr!
for those of us breastfeeding I found this which may explain why my bub has been getting so much wind.... may help some of u too.... Breastfeeding and your diet
