glad im not thr only one whos bub is on and off....i have the patience for it and my nipples aren't sore (yet) but i feed in bed duringthe night and its hard to keep bubs quiet so dh can sleep.....saying that he rarely cries for a feed just grunts when he comes off....if he was crying it would be another story
As for wakefulness during the night i dont have that...dont know if its the book i follow or luck (DS1 was the same) but the book is very firm on having dim light (we use a lamp) and no talking or eye contact....basically trying not to communicae with bubs in anyway therefore no stimulation....obviously its impossible not to stare in their eyes but i dont talk or smile/pull faces so its feed change feed other side sleep....and i swaddle him for the second feed....
dont know if that helps anyone but thats myonly advice

Tallons routine for those interested
I wake up 6:30 express 60-90mL
7am feed from full breast then feed from breat just expressed from
8:30 - 10am sleep
10am wake him up give one breast
Top and Tail
10:45 express 60-90mL from other breast
11am feed from side you've just expressed from
12pm-2pm sleep
2pm wake up feed from one side if still hungry give him other (he rarely has the second breast at this feed)
3:30pm-5pm sleep
5pm wake up feed one side
6pm Bath
6:15pm feed other side
7pm - 9:45pm sleep
9:45 wake up and allow ten mins to wake up properly for good feed
10pm feed both sides
11pm - 3/3:30am sleep
3:30am feed (usually only takes one side here...if he wakes before 3:30 i feed him then but i usually have to wake him mysefl at 3:30)
4am-7am sleep
Hope that helps anyone looking to settle into a routine....used it for both my boys and its been great(this is the routine for 1wk olds - by two weeks given that they are putting on weight etc sleep time in morning is cut back so going to sleep at 9am and after noon cut back going to sleep at 4pm)
-
Smoz when your routine says sleep, do you just swaddle him and put him down and walk away? And he sleeps? That would be good...lol
-
At the moment Ochre is very random in what he does in relation to settling and sleep. Some nights he does a good 3 to 4 hour sleep then a two hour then another 3 hour and will settle straight away for these sleeps (ahh bliss!!). Other nights he wont go to sleep after a feed for a good hour (sometime more!) - just lays in his cot looking around. At this time i give him a dummy to suck on and I'm finding he drifts off to sleep by himself. If he is crying a lot it's generally wind so i give him some Brauers Colic Relief and it really helps. Last few nights he has been wetting his clothes and wraps (i have to remember to aim his willy down when i put on his nappy) so that wakes him up as well.
Skye - after a feed does she arch her back and cry as if in pain? or is she just crying? just wondering if its silent reflux or something like that. i think ochre gets a bit of that. he gets pretty distraught sometimes after a feed, screams and arches his back and once he's burped he's fine.
raven - hi and welcome! wow 3 boys and a girl!! I have 3 boys also. i keep getting asked by everyone will i try for another to get the girl. very tempting but i don't see it happening. how are the boys coping with a little sister? i bet they love her to bits!
smoz - sounds like you've got the routine down pat! does he do that every day? i tried doing a routine like that for my second DS and the 4 hourly feeds didn't help my milk supply which was a bummer. feeding 2 to 3 hourly makes me feel like i spend my whole day on the couch with my boobs out ;)
minimatron, mit and skye - how much ebm do your babies take in one feed??
-
Littlelalla - Lucus gets through 50-90ml when he takes the EBM, I figure its about the same as 20-30 min of actual sucking which is his normal full feeds. I mean when he either falls asleep or rejects the breast his done 20-30 min of actual sucking and mabey another 10-15 looking around or wanting to be changed to a new position.
-
yer Skye i just swaddle him and he's usually drowsy by then so just falls asleep....or falls asleep whilst im burping him
Luara as for my milk supply the expressing in the morning feeds keeps it up and i drop it to just 30mL when he gows through growth spurts
-
Laura- Mia will have about 80 ml of EBM, sometimes a bit more or less. She does seem to have some wind so I gave her the colic relief tonight- she seemed to like the taste! Has finally gone to sleep now, 3 hours later than normal. I think she had an upset tummy she did 2 big poos and they had lumps in them! I wonder what that could be. Its hard with DH,because he doesnt see her much during the week because of work, he just held her and played with her tonight, because he misses her. I ended up putting her down to sleep, DH has alot to learn...lol.
Sounds like what is happeing with Ochre is happening here....LOTS of wetting through her nappies! I dont have the willy problem though...hehe.
Smoz- Sometimes Mia falls asleep when Im burping her, it makes it alot easier to put her to bed that way!
Hoping tonight is a good night for everyone xx
-
Skye - ochre is not fond of the colic relief at all! he kinda gags on it! we had a really crappy night last night but i only have myself to blame. i ate some of my friends home made truffles (chocolate) and then had McDonalds for tea! Ochre didn't settle til nearly 6am after his 3am feed. All my boys have always been sensitive to what i eat. And chocolate is a no no. :crying: god i miss chocolate!
On the subject of poos...what's everyone's bubs doing? Ochre's are not really formed yet. Sometimes they are a bit cottage cheesy (curdled looking) and always mustard coloured but more kind of watery . When do they start getting more 'thicker'?? I can't remember from last time.
-
We had the best night last night! Mia went down at 10.30pm and woke at 1.30am, DH gave her the bottle, then she slept through til 6am! YAY! Such a great sleep. Then she went to sleep again and I and to wake her for a feed at 10am! Im thinking it must have been a fluke though, surely it wont happen again.
I was surprised she liked the colic stuff, I got DH to come and watch me give her some so he could see her screw up her face but she didnt do it! lol.
Im not sure about the poos littlelalla, dont they stay like that for a while until they start solids?
Interesting about what you eat affects the breast milk....might have to think back to what I eat that makes her grumpy.
-
hey luara Tallons poo's are the same...varied shades from green to yello/orange but watery and curdled looking....dont know when the change but gladto hear soneone elses is doing the same. garunteed he does one aftert he first breast....
hasd no sleep lastnight....DH went to his xmas party and stayed out so i had my first day and night with the two kids. I did great :D gave DS1 dinner while i BF and bathed bubs...once bubs in bed bathed DS1 and put him to bed and had my own dinner and a chat...but after i finished bubs morning feed by 4am Theo came into my room at 4:30am and wouldn't go back to sleep....so after gong to sleep at 12 then waking up at 3:30 i am SOOO tired..thankfully DH is home now and im thinking we will try Tallon with her first bottle of EBM tonight...would like to give him a bottle at his 10:30 feed so i can get to bed a bit earlier....will see how i feel as im not sure im ready yet.

Hi girls! I guess I belong in here too... ;) I already know some of you but hello to everyone anyway... :)
I had DD 11 days ago...she's a gorgeous little girl and so different to DS as a baby...she's actually calm & doesn't scream all day...well, I'm not counting my chickens yet but it is nice for now at least. :)
Sorry for no more just now, I just wanted to pop in and say g'day before starting the feeding again. Congrats to everyone on their new bubbas! :)
-
Smoz how flexible is that routine? I'd never get out of the house if I tried to do that one! Seems like it's aimed at first time mums or those without kinder or school aged children already ;)
Laura it's mustard explosions all the way here too. I'm sure they are like that till solids or that wonderful poo free period. I snuck some chockies too yesterday so I hope it doesn't affect Ruby...
Skye the lumps in BF poo are milk fat.
DH had a bucks day yesterday so he was sent to the spare room for the night. I was buggered as I didn't get a nap so I kept Ruby in bed with me and she slept so well. Managed to do one laying down feed at 2.30 and we both went off to sleep after that and she slept till 6.45! I woke up to leaking bb's. Got up for a while and I had to go back to sleep and we both went back down till 11. DH tidied the house as his penance  The boys went nuts yesterday.

I miss talking to all you guys in here : ( Since Meara came early I have to be in the October chat. Hope everyone is doing great and congrats to all who have had their bubs since I had to leave.
Meara is finally putting on weight and she grew 2.5cm in one WEEK. Must be doing something right lol. She is still being comp fed but I have stopped stressing about it because it seems to be working. Actually it helps sometimes when someone else can give her a bottle. She also sleeps really well (much better than her sister who is nearly 2) I give her a feed about 10.30pm and she will usually sleep until somewhere between 5 and 6am. Then I give her another feed and she goes back to sleep until about 8am and then she is up for a while. We change bum and play for a bit then she has another feed and goes back to sleep. YAY for a good one lol.
Must go she is crying at me but good luck to everyone and congrats again.

Hey Kim....you could stay in here!!!!
well am tying while pumping. off to the day stay today. not too sure what to do as becca still wont feed from me. i have so much milk...just got 130 mls from left side...might get the same from right. i am in such a pickle over this. i just wish she would take it from me and it would be easier. i just hate the fact that the whole feeding process is drawn out and Olivia gets left out coz i dont have time. aaaagggrrr.
well thats my vent for the day.

Smoz - Thanks for putting up your routine, went back through Lucus's feed times and its nice to know that even with no routine its still in keeping with what others are experiencing.
Anyone else having trouble with the heat and baby??? Lucus is eating his normal meals then a little while later it comes back up again. We tried putting on the a/c yesterday late arvo to see if that helped which it did a little but now I'm confused as its been cool so far today and he still threw up a big meal.
I figured I'd try forcing smaller 5 min feeds with breaks until it settles as then he wont be loosing all his food but I really don't know. DH thinks its just him eating too much too fast and getting a sore tummy.
So far more is going in than being thrown up and he is still making lots of wet and dirty nappies so I guess his not in trouble, it would just be nice to know if there is anything I should be trying.
Thanks for any advice you can pass on.

Hey Di i wouldn't worry too much about him being sicky....as long as he keeps putting on weight and filling nappies, just have cloths near by after feeds heehee
OGM had the worst night sleep Sat night!!!!! So decided i needed to get out away from DH and Kids as i haven't seen any of my mates pretty much my whole pregnancy (Dh figured seeing as i could'nt drink he would go out and leave me at home with DS) so went to mates house and DH gave Tallon his 10pm feed with EBM and he took it great and i just made sure i was home by 2am for his next feed....got to my mates house at 8 and had one vodka (figured from 8 till 2am was long enough for it to be out my system) and it was great, but....
A storm starting coming over about 1ish so i jumped in the car to head home and DH rings me cuz littlest man has woken up early (first time ever grr) but i was only under 5mins away so got home and took over from DH and let him go back to sleep...halfway through feeding him we loose power! and its STINKING hot!!!! so we have no ceilling fan, no aircon and can't even open the windows cuz it was raining so hard! it was too hot for us to have any clothes on let alone bubs in his nappy and swaddling him (have a 100%cotton really thin muslin wrap and he saturated that with sweat when the fan was ON!)
So had to put bubs in our bed with just his nappy on but of course the thunder was that loud the room shook and he startled awake every time so i spent the whole night with my arm over his body keeping his arms down so he didn't knock the dummy out so he at least wa'sn't crying even if he was awake.....lets just say it was a HELL of a night
sorry no personals too tired xoxo
-
Smoz - gosh girl that sounds like a crazy night indeed!! well we have had a few rough nights in a row which has made me exhausted but last night he was great and slept from 11 to 8am with only one feed. It has made me feel much better although poor DH couldn't sleep!
mit - Ochre has started vomiting up a bit of milk too. Sometimes it's a bit curdled looking, other times just breast milk. I did a bit of reading and it's quite normal for breast fed babies to do that as long as it's not projectile vomiting.
mini- how did you go at the day centre?
kimb - 2.5 cm in a week!! WOW!! that's awesome! sounds like she is sleeping like a gem - you DO have a good one :D
Raven - haha they are explosions aren't they!
Ssmiles - welcome hon! good to hear from you again. kaitlyn is a real sweetie - job well done there babe :)
Skye - hope she continues to sleep like that hon - wouldn't that be awesome!! how's your c-section recovery going? I drove yesterday - just had to get out of the house. It felt great!
Just a quick question - when your babies sleep for long periods at night and then have a feed do they take the other breast as well? I'm finding when Ochre does a 4 hour sleep in the night my boobs are VERY full and he doesn't take much from the other side so they are really full for most of the day. Ochre does has a bit of a cold at the moment - his nose is all snuffly but so far it's not affecting his feeding which is a bonus. ;)
-
Kim of course you can
Melissa hope the day stay went well for you!
Di I had an oversupply issue and a chucky baby with my first. It won't last too long though. Before you know it he will have grown and will be able to cope with it better :)
Smoz eeeks for the rowdy night. Hope you have caught up on that sleep you lost. It's not hot at all down here ATM. Raining and cool today. Ruby got rained on for the first time and she wasn't impressed lol!
Laura I had the same issue last night as Ruby slept for 6 hours before I decided to wake her because I was in AGONY! I then expressed a bit off the other side as she was so full she was not interested on it at all.
So besides Miss R sleeping for 6 hours last night :o (yes I got up and poked her JIC when I woke up with leaky boobs and saw the time!) we went on our first Mummy and Daughter shopping trip this afternoon. I need a new washing machine so went lookies. I also went for a look around the shops and OMG it was as if nobody has seen a newborn before ROFL  I had her in the hug-a-bub though so she was fully visible. She loooooves the hug-a-bub! If anyone is considering a sling then I recommend one of them over a baby bjorn any day!
