Caleb has now figured out that Ruby is not actually what my belly is called :lol: He'd freak out when we said the baby is called Ruby and yell "NO it's baby Sister not Ruby" then he'd lift up my top, patting my belly and calling it Ruby. Wish we got it on video really...

SSmiles I haven't counted how many bf She has. I'm guessing it's about 8 - 10. She did another 5 hour sleep lastnight :o My poor boobs were like rockmelons! She will go between 1 1/2 hours when she's cluster feeding in the evening but 2hrs is normal for her ATM. If she has a nap during the day it can be 3.

Oh and you need to master the art of nak (nursing at keyboard). It's really the only time I get on ATM as between feeds I need to play with the others ;)

Raven- thats so cute. I hear ya on the light sleeping...Im a VERY light sleeper, so it is hard to sleep with M with me, Im also scared the dooner will accidently cover her face etc.

Mini- we have done 2 breast feeds today. She did really well, and I topped her up with FF. Tried again for the last feed but she was starving and the milk wouldnt come out through the nipple sheild so just gave her the bottle.
I try to breast feed atleast once a day, but getting the nipple shields ready, getting bottles ready etc is proving to be a lot of work, but I want to do it as long as I can.

Ssmiles- we are doing feeds every 3-3.5 hours, not sure how many times that is. 7-8 I think. At the health nrse she said I was feeding Mia too often and too much- like double what Im meant to! She weighed her and worked out what she "should" be having, and that is 60-90ml. I was doing what it said on the formula tin and feeding her 120ml! She would drink it all though. How much is everyone else giving bubs?

smoz- yep I dont see the problem with a few drinks as long as you express before or se formula. I had a few last night and I got a few comments! Grr, seriously I felt like telling them to mind their own business.

Last night went well, my dad babysat her and I think he held her the whole time...hehe!She loved it though, and it was great to get out and do something "non baby" for a couple of hours!

oh Raven that is too cute....im surprised howquickly theo worked out that there was no more baby in my belly he got it straight away when i came home he lifted up my top and said "no more baby the Doctor took him out"....at 2 i was very impressed with him

yer Sky i have a freezer full of EBM...been expressing twice a day since wk 2 and can now get 100mL in 15mL each time i express...
As for feeding bubs too much i dont believe it....bubs will stop drinking when they are full. Is she throwing much back up after each feed? if not then i would keep doing what your doing as every baby is different...Tallon will take 110mL EBM at his 11pm feed....i have allowed 100mL per feed with a top up bottle for that extra 20 or so at his 'Big" feeds....i had a friend who was told she was over feeding her bubs and when she did the 'recommended" feeding amount her baby was always hungry and crying.....just do what you feel is right and what bubs wants IMO...if she is throwing up heaps then cut back but if she is taking it all and keeping it down then she must want/need it all

thanks Smoz- she was throwing up ALOT before I cut down her milk. She seems much happier now, so will keep giving her 90ml, but I can see I will need to up that soon.

Hope you and your bubs are all doing well.

Lara is 8 wks old tomorrow, can you believe. Time had gone so quick. She is smiling lots now. She is such a good baby still (every time I say that I am scared I am going to jinx myself). She sleeps well at night, usually goes down about 10pm then sleeps through until approx 7:30 am, she has a bottle (I am bottle feeding now) then straight back to sleep until around lunch time.

Hi everyone, just wanted to pop in and let you know how Lucus is and what?s happened.

Just to catch up he was vomiting regularly after every feed and therefore getting dehydrated and loosing weight. We went to the GP on Monday and got info and medication to treat reflux with a need for a follow up on Thursday. By Thursday he had lost even more weight and was severely dehydrated so after a trip to the emergency department it turned out he has Pyloric Stenosis.

Basically what that means is that the muscle around the join from the stomach to the intestine was overly large and would not open to allow food/drinks to be digested. As a result it had to come back up and therefore our little boy was starving and dehydrating.

The good news is that they have been able to treat it with a simple operation this afternoon. It was effectively like cutting an overly tight rubber band to allow a tube to open. It all went really well apart from the fact he lost a lot of temperature and it took a long time to warm him back up to normal (longer than the whole operation).

His very brave parents have left a happily sleeping baby with a very lovely intensive care nurse so that we can get a good night sleep. When we left him he was rugged up tight and out of it. With a bit of luck I won?t wake up and insist on checking up on him as I really need the rest.

The only down side is that he hasn?t fed at all since the 18th and won?t start eating till tomorrow, and I have been too busy and stressed to express anything. As a result my milk is down to very little. My hope is that a good night sleep, water and good food with a bit of expressing and it will all be up and running so I can meet his needs.

I am so glad that we live in a country that has such a good health system that responds so well to looking after children and that there was a way of making him better. The excellent news is that after he recovers there will be no more vomiting or reflux, just the usual possets and mess a baby makes. Between you and me a short time worrying vs a long time of concern is much easier on mum and dad.

I hope everyone else?s little angels are happy and healthy and that we all get what we want for Christmas ? a good night sleep.

Diana I know of someone whose baby had pyloric stenosis! He was fine after a few days and feeding like a champ. It's quite rare I believe but she had it as a baby too.

Hi everyone, thought I would pop in here as well as the 1-15th Dec thread as most of my belly buddies are in here and I am all alone in there so far.

I'm Laura, I gave birth to Elise on the 12.12.08.
3.295 kg or 7lb4oz
51cms
and 33.5 head circ.

She has already gained back her birth weight and was 3.370 kgs last Saturday and she is developing a lovely double chin.

She's a good baby, doesn't cry unless she is hungry or needs a change etc, other than that she is contented, no hours of screaming so far like my first.
She seems to cluster feed between 7pm and midnight, every 1 - 2 hours but can go for a while during the day usually 3-4 hours sometimes more.
She loves a cuddle and won't go to sleep on her own, but I don't mind too much, I love to give her cuddles and they are only so nice and cuddly like this for such a short time.

I'm feeling extra happy today because the MIL has gone home after being here for 5 weeks. 1500k's is just the right distance

I have been lurking here for a couple of days and now i thought i would post a hello, hope you all don't mind me joining you.
My precious son Jaylan David was born on the 28th of November. I was induced over a period of 2 days and had lots of prostein pain but no labour. At 6:30pm my waters broke and Jaylan engaged, Jaylan arrived into our world at 7:30pm, then took another 10 mintues to deliever placenta. Total of 1 hour and 10 mintue labour. 2nd degree tear but that part was easy. Jaylan was born blue and took about 2 minutes to breathe. His afgar scores were 2 and 9.
He is doing well now. He is bottle feed as he was having trouble attaching and losing lots of weight. Now he is more settled and i have to wake him through the day at 3-4 hours to feed so he can have his big sleep at night rather than through the day. He had a tongue tie which was 100% and it was snipped when he was a week old. The clinic sisters now think he may have reflux so we are keeping an eye on him and he is now on a anti reflux formula and this seems to be working.
Jaylan is my second child but first child with my hubby. He has the proudest big sister in the world (which is good as Brearna was desperate for a girl and we didn't know how she would cope if a boy arrived but she is GREAT).
I look forward to getting to know you all through this thread and so glad to be able to support other great mums with bubs the same age and who know exactly how your feeling.

Trac73 wow that was a quick birth in the end :o Isn't it great when the older ones dote on the new arrival! Bet Jaylan gets heaps of cuddles :)

:rofl: Mine stayed a few days when I went overdue and that was enough! She's only about 70k's away but acts like it's heaps more. She's not too keen on driving ;)

Well it's D-day for me today! DH has gone back to work so it's the first time I am home alone with my tribe. Yesterday we had visitors most of the day so it didn't count ;) So far so good but ABC kids is on...

Just a quick update no time for proper personals

Things with hubby still rocky but we are playing nice for christmas and he is back living with us for the time being.

Tallon is feeding much better and has attachement on the left down pact but is still fussy on the right. Went to carols last night and managed to BF in public without flashing or getting myself drenched so things are def impoving!

Both kids have been spoilt this christmas even though i told everyone NOT to get the new bubs anything....he's 4wks old he doesnt need anything grrr but my xmas tree is surrounded by pressies and the family haven't even given them theirs yet.....Mum thinks im a meanie cuz i wont let DS1 open them as he gets them but if i let him open one he'll want to open them all so he knows that he gets a present puts it under the tree and opens it xmas day

Just curious how often does everyone go out with their new bubs and how old where they when you first went out?

I am usually out and about at LEAST twice a week (probably more) and have done since i got home from hospital, but i keep getting so many comments and shocked expression saying im brave bringing him out so young.....i did the same with DS1, he was at a wedding at 1wkold and had been to the shops before then aswell. Is it just me or do most people stay home????

Smoz- Ooops well I take Mia out each and every day! We go shopping, visit friends etc. I dont stay home all day, no way I could.

Hi everyone else!

We are going well here, the last 2 nights have been good, she has had her last feed at 10.30pm and then woke at 3am, then at 6/7am. Ive also been practicing recognising tired signs and putting her down then. After a feed she will have a play for 30 min or so, then she will usually start grizzling and waving her arms, so nappy change, wrap, dummy and in bed...she will usually just fall asleep on her own when I do this. Before I was leaving her too late and she was over tired, now I catch her before shes too tired.

Fingers crossed she continues this way!
Went for an ultrasound on her hips yesterday, as she was born with a bit of a click. I swear thats why I kept hearing clicking in the womb!! It was weird.
Anyway, the lady said her hips still havent developed fully, so we will need to go back in a couple of weeks. but they were looking ok.

Oh i glad im not the only one SKye! was just curious because of all the strangers comments on having him out so young

I've taken Ruby out for a few strolls to the shops. I'd go stir crazy otherwise ;)

Smoz - I've been out a few times as well, generally about 2 hours later than I planned lol cause Elise will poo just as I want to leave etc.
I hate how people come up and expect to have a touch and feel, I've only had a couple but I think I have perfected my "get lost" (putting it nicely, I'd use another 4 letter word but that would be naughty) look cause I didn't have any come up to me this morning even though I could tell they wanted to.
I hope her hips sort themselves out too.


Skye - Gee I wish Elise would sleep at night, last night she was awake every 1- 1 1/2 hrs for a feed. She would only take one side at a time before zonking out so I am sure that's why, she just wouldn't wake up for the other side so I gave up.
I was so out of it at one point I couldn't remember if I had just woken up, how many hours it had been lol I think I was also dreaming about feeding her, took me 5 minutes to wake up and figure out what the hell was happening.

On a sad note looks like the MIL will be back in three odd weeks with the SIL and her tribe of three boys, woe is me.

Smoz - I'm not going out as much as I did with DD - mainly cause my mum & dad are here at the moment and they are going to get groceries, etc for me, so I don't need to, but with DD I was out every day from the word go and I got comments too....

ll80 - Finn is a bit of a snacker, falls asleep on one side and then wants feeding an hour later, think when they get to about three weeks they wake up more and can stay awake for the feed and get more into them (hopefully :) ) I am so sleeyp when I wake up in the night and the bf'ing hormones really kick in.

Oh dear....the little man wants feeding.

Oh Laura, I can relate to that. I have had nights where I honestly cant remember getting up and feeding, I know I did but I just cant remember, it is a blur. Another night I was dreaming she was crying and crying, and DH had to wake me and tell me she was crying! Im the lightest sleeper ever so it was a shock. The last few days have been good, but I dont want to jinx myself.
Gosh sounds like Elise is waking alot, so that would mean....you are virtually getting no sleep? How long does she feed for? Because by the time you finish shed be up again??

Had a great day today, Mia was so good, sleeping and feeding just as she should....but as I said...dont want to jinx myself lol....oh and to everyone who has more than one child....I admire you all!! lol.
