Babies Born November 16th ~ 30th 2008

oh Raven i know what you mean about people in the shops and the new born thing...i had an old lady come up to us in the op shop when tallon was only 5days old and she touched his leg then went to touch his face...i stopped her and said "im sorry but im not comfortable with strangers touching his face he's only a couple of days old" the woman was fine but my mum had a go at me after....wat was i meant to do let some complete stranger touch my baby pffft just cuz we are in public doe'sn't make him public property

Well i hope all is well with everyone else...things here are terrible atm

DH has moved out temporarily as he has sever anger management issues and lost it in front of the kdis last night swearing and punching walls and throwing chairs whilst i was bf?ng bubs and in front of our 2.5yo who was sobbing. So i have asked him to move out until he's been to counselling and then we will discuss him coming home.

So for now i am a single mummy with a new born aarhghh

Smoz - oh hon sending out a big hug to you :hug: that must be so hard. i hope your DH gets the help he needs. have you got good family and friends support?

Raven - gotta love the baby slings/carriers! i never used one with my other two boys so i bought myself a Beco Butterfly baby carrier and it has been fantastic. and yes - it draws attention everywhere i go! i've also purchased a karma baby sling :sling: as i'm finding i'm carrying Ochre around the house a lot so im looking forward to getting that in the post.

mit - the midwife said not to worry about the vomiting as it's just bubs way of letting out extra milk they don't need. she said some babies are little piggies and drink too much and that's why they tend to vomit a bit up.

Well I'm so relieved. We weighed Ochre today and he has put on 520 grams in a week!!! I think he is making up for the previous week where he only put on a 100 grams. So now he's 9 pound 7 oz of pure gorgeous-ness!! We got some professional photos done of him and his brothers today. I can't wait to see them. He was so good. Apart from peeing everywhere several times, he was a little angel. Still can't believe he's 3 weeks old today!! Time flies ;) xx

I hope I am allowed in here, I was in the 16 -30 Nov belly buddies but Finnegan was born 7 December, so hope it is okay for me to be here as I know some of you lovely ladies already.

So, Finnegan Liam was born 7 December at 6.30 am after a very short labour.......5 am - a few pains, 5.30 - waters broke, 6 am - arrived at hospital and 6.27 am - beautiful Finny was born.

He is a charmer in the day, but come 10 pm to 3 am - quite unsettled but I guess that will sort out in time.

Sorry this is so short and no personals but just wanted to say hello and congratulations to all you clever ladies and look forward to sharing the lives of our lovely bubs.

Just thought i would pop in and say hi!!! Been busy, made the hard decision to give up b/feeding coz Becca was not taking it and I couldnt do the expressing anymore as Olivia was missing out and i was spending so much time with the whole feeding process it was driving me to tears. Rebecca had such a bad rash on her bum that wasnt responding to anything, she was pooing constantly and it was liquid and bubbly. I took her to the gp and he prescribed a combo of creams. That was yesterday arvo. I also put her on formula exclusively then too. By this morning her bum looks so much better and shes not in pain. Am glad I have made my decision. So i am trying to dry up my milk. My boobs are huge, not sore though. I have been using cabbage leaves for pain relief. I got a script for Parlodol which is supposed to dry up milk but after taking it I felt unwell. So I have gotten onto the cold and flu tablets coz the psuedoeffidrine is supposed to suppress milk production. Hope it doesnt take long.

Well Olivia and I are off to see the wiggles today and dh is home with Becca.

Smoz that would be such a hard thing to go through, especially with a newborn. You take care OK :hug:

Ruby is going well! She is back to birth weight now. Considering how much of a guts she is I'm not surprised lol.
She threw up all over me and the bed last night. Poor little thing :( I think she must have had some wind that wouldn't come up because she has done some massive burps this morning.
She has also been having some super alert periods too and is a real eye gazer.

Smoz - I hope DH works out his behaviour sooner rather than later for your sake. Good for you for suggesting he moves out till that point - I know both myself and my DH are rather calm easy going people but newborns can try a saint, let alone someone with an already shortened fuse. I hope your family and friends can help out durring this time, but I know thats sometimes harder to actually get.

Thanks for the feedback on the vomiting, its started to do my head in as there is just so much more washing and changing. I think your onto something with the overeating as the milk comes out quite fast even when hand expressing so his probably just gluping down more than he can handle before he works it out.

Well I'm going to find a bed to die in as I am exhausted and hungry, darn I guess I'd better eat before falling asleep. Knowing my luck I'll be woken by a hungry/dirty bub before I have a chance to actually get off to sleep.

Wow what a quiet thread this is! Must be all enjoying our newborns too much ;) I guess if I didn't have a laptop that I use when I b/f I'd never get on here either!

mumintraining I'm having an afternoon sleep when I can manage it too. Ruby often has other plans for me though ;)

Ruby was a bit unsettled lastnight. Not sure why but I'm guessing it was the rafaello I pigged out on. Oh well my butt will be thankful I won't be eating them again :lol:

so just curious i was reading another thread about drinking and breastfeeding and the general concensus seems to be if you can drive you can feed going of the wait 2-3hrs for the first drink plux one hour for each drink thereafter starting from when you finish the last drink....

But alot of people said they personally wouldn't until bubs was older (ie 2+months) so was just wondering what everyone is doing over the festive season?

I have a freezer full of expressed milk and am contemplating drinking on new years....obviously not going to get blotto but will have a few.

I don't drink much at all while I'm b/f because I find that it gives me a headache and the next day I'll feel really dehydrated. I'll have a glass of wine or a beer but that's about it.

Another reason for me not drinking when they are so small is that I feel I need to have my wits about me if something were to happen or bub wouldn't settle for the babysitter and I had to go home.

Yer i have the same thoughts and would be drinking a hell of alot of water to be concious of dehydration and again wouldn't be drinking enough to be drunk and will have bubs with us on new years so will be the ones settling him etc so again wouldn't drink as much to endanger bubs....but just curious what other reasons there are not to drink at such young age????

If i do i will buy those breast strips that test the level of alcohol in you milk so will know when it is ok to feed again....dotn know just heard so many mixed opinions. I personally dont see a prob with it unless there is a medical reason that i dont know about

Just thought i would pop in and say hi. Things have been great since popping Rebecca on FF. Shes over her birth weight now. Shes also woken up from her sleepiness and is awake a fair bit during the day. She swipes at her dangly toys and she gave me her first smile yesterday when I was tickling her face. Shes also started to drink all of her bottle, so last night went 4 hours between both night feeds. Needless to say, I feel great!

Hope everyone and their bubs are doing fine. 1 week til our first Christmas.

Just curious at what age do babies first truly smile as i've heard heaps of people say there bubs smiled at them but i thought it was just wind until theyw ere like 3months (sorry dont want to take away from anyone just curious)

well all is going well here, Tallon is feeding brilliant still a bugger for attaching but we got the left side down pact its now the right that i gotta work on...will give it another week then go to a LC if he's still a cheeky monkey....i dont mind for my own sanity its just i have to tuck a cloth nappy in my bra when feeding otheriwse i end up drenched cuz he comes off so many times in the middle of it! grrrr heehee

Hope everyone is doing well. Well my DH and I turned 33 today and it has been one very crazy day. My second DS woke up with spots...turns out he's got Chicken Pox!! Lovely timing!! What is it with my boys? My first DS got CP a week before Xmas when he was 2 as well - bizarre! Luckily my neices and nephews have either been immunised or had CP so we don't have to lock ourselves away Christmas day. Then this afternoon my first DS power chucked 4 times (never seen so much vomit!). FIngers crossed it was a one off thing and not the dreaded stomach bug that's getting around. So hopefully little Ochre avoids the pox as well but I don't like my chances. It's extremely hard to keep a 2 year old away from his little baby brother.
I've had the midwife visitng every week and Ochre has been putting on some great weight gain. 520 grams one week then 300 the next. I can't believe he's going to be a month old tomorrow! How's everyones babies going with settling at night. I find Ochre hard to settle after his first feed (its always usually around 2am). I've been putting him in bed with me. It's just easier to get him to sleep. Otherwise I have to lay there and listen to him grunt and wriggle and suck his dummy (which falls out repeatedly and has to be plugged back in!) This has been going on for an hour or more every night. I still get a couple of 2 hour blocks sleep so I can't complain. What happened to those 3 or 4 hour blocks of sleep - would love to have that back again!

Smoz - i'm not much of a drinker. I had a midori and lemonade at tea tonight. was my first alchohlic drink since before falling pregnant. those strips are great.

mini - glad to hear she is feeding well and u are getting some much needed rest. funny u should mention the smiling. ochre was staring at me today and started smiling. i guess we dont know if it was wind or not but i find when he grins with wind he is asleep and this time round he was definitely awake. was very cute! i bet your heart just melted when rebecca smiled at you. :)

raven - the photos turned out really well - got some very gorg shots. when i''ve got some more time i'll upload a few. just had to change my eldest DS sheets - he's vomited again - arrghh!!

Happy birthday to you and your DH littlelalla! So sorry to hear about the pox. I hope Ochre doesnt get them. I got them when I was 15 and it was awful having them when I was older!
I put Mia in bed with us if she wont settle either...she loves being in with us (of course) haha but not a habit I want her to get used to at 2am!

Mini- thats wonderful about the formula. Mia is much more full when she is on formula, yesterday I have her some breast milk and 1 hour later she was starving again.

Raven- I hope Ruby is more settled now...yummy raffaelos!!

MIT- hows all the vomiting going?

We had a great night last night, Mia only woke up once. She has been pretty unsettled lately with a sore tummy, so I gave her some infants friend....wonderful! Very effective, she calmed down and slept really well.
We have DHs works christmas party tonight, my Dad is babysitting before going back o/s on Monday, where he lives. Its going to be so weird leaving her, but I know I have to do it and she will be fine!

oh yay im glad someone else is a drinker....i keep being made to feel guilty that i want to go and have a few drinks with friends...as i've said im not one to get blotto and not in control of my actions....but a few is fine grr

Things here are a little off at the moment, sort of like living in a dream....DH has come home for now so we can work on things, just sorting of biting the bullet till the new year!

Melissa glad to hear that Rebecca is doing better :) How is Olivia coping with her now?

Smoz between 3 - 6 weeks for smiles the health nurse told me. That is dependant on what gestation they were too apparently. So an overdue bub may smile sooner after birth than an early one. :dunno: not sure how true that is though.

Laura WOW at your DH and you having your birthday on the same day...and the same age too!
Hope Ochre doesn't get chicken pox too :crossfingers:

Skye I've not had a problem with bed snuggles causing bad habits. I just choose not to do it because I'm too light a sleeper so all the grunting and snuffling keeps me awake ;)

Ruby slept for 5 hours lastnight! From 10pm - 3am :dance: Then she fed and slept again till 6! I feel good but a bit funny in the head as I'm used to less sleep. Funny that :rolleyes:

Laura- happy birthday to you and your dh. Hope you had a fantastic day. Sorry to hear about the spots and hoping your little litlle man doesnt get them.

Smoz- good luck with the drinking and working it out. Cant give you any tips...sorry. And I'm not trying to rub it in, but I just had a looksee in my grog cupboard and when I am in themood....I am going to have some well deserved alcoholic beverages. Unfortunately i'm not in the mood...too tired or screaming children!!!!

Sam-glad Ruby is sleeping better. Olivia is doing really well with her "dister" and is giving her lots and lots of "duddles duddles". Oh its so cute. She still has some tanties if I cant attend to her straight away, but I think thats just normal....

Skye- hows it all going with the feeding. Sounds like your doing a fantastic job keeping up with the ebm. Have you popped her back on the breast again for interest? I did with Becca yesterday, however, she just fussed, so its really finished it off for me. When do you have your review for Mias hips? We got all our appointments for the middle of Jan. hoping all is good.

Hi girls! I'm back for the first time in ages...we got some sleep last night and it feels good, even though I'm stll buggered... ;)

Kaitlyn has been feeding (BF) 6-10 times a day with a block of a few hours sleep over night. How many feeds a day are other BF bubs doing? She has a FF occassionally too because we don't want her to not take a bottle later (like DS) and I hate expressing. How long do your bubs sleep between feeds?

Kaitlyn also has a lot of wind problems...especially tummy aches which we think are poo related. We also got Infants Friend and it seems to help. We used Infacol with DS but it says from 1 month and K is only 3 weeks old.

I've had heaps of pain when feeding with the left boob but it is finally settling down...I had worse pain ith DS so I'm quite happy with how things are going and Kaitlyn is now 5.275 kgs (4.89 kgs at birth) so she's doing well.

Littlelalla - HB to you and DH!! And I hope Ochre dosen't get the CP!
