I give charli everything, except nuts although she has had stuff which says it contains traces but not game enough to give her actual nuts yet. lol. She accidently had honey too (cause i never knew about that) which was on a crumpet.... shes also had egg, scrambled yolk and she's eaten omlette and zuchini slice too which contains the white as well.
Robyn- do you feed him or does he like to feed himself, charli has her days. But i give her sandwich's with vegemite and she loves cream cheese, licks it off the lil terror. lol. She also has yoghurt and diced fruit, rice and pasta.
There is a pasta in the baby aisle which is made by heinz i think, it is in a red box and is alphabet shapes but is a great size for charli cause she can be a piggy and doesnt always chew. lol. But i find its great. Maybe you could try that too?????

I'm still BF :) but i'm starting to wean her off a lil, she is just starting to drop her 4am feed which is great but she still has one at 7am, 11am, 3pm and 7pm and then a top up at 9.30-10pm. She is such a lil piggy :p

wow - i am still feeding him. He has toast which he eats, but i still feed him with a spoon.

So when you say they eat pasta etc do you give them a bowl and they feed themselves? And when they eat what you are eating - does that mean you give them a piece of chicken with veges and potatoes?? Do you feed it to them or do you give them a plate full and they feed themselves?

I feel like we are way behind now... No wonder he is getting bit bored.

We have moved 1hr out of Auckland and don't get to see my antenatal gp much now so are bit out of touch with how fast to move onto next step.

Hi there girls!!!!

We're very slow on the teeth front here - Ash still doesn't have any! She is almost crawling too - but not quite. Her big sister is going to be in trouble then - it will be payback time for all the toy snatching and pinching :rolleyes:. I have just finished weaning Ash - I was a bit sad but I really had to get things settled before I head back to work in a few weeks. I am trying to catch a few movies and get some jobs done before then.
Robyn - don't stress you are not way behind at all! My DD1 had mushy food for ages and sadly still enjoys being spoon fed by my MIL. She is also a great eater and loves all sorts of food. The MCHN here suggested we try Baby Led Solids when we started food this time - there is a thread on BB about this (sorry no idea how to link).
I just give her cut up bits of our food - which is pretty boring ATM! So she will have pasta (dried or stuffed like ravioli etc) with bolognaise sauce (very messy and stains the highchair if you are not careful), lasagne, pita bread pizza, any meat so chicken, fish, sausage, chops, steak and lots of vege. Most commonly broccoli, frozen veg mixes, cauliflower, potato, tomato, cucumber etc. I just do lots of piles on the tray and she makes a massive mess, it is great fun. I usually spoon feed her yoghurt and cereal initially and then let her fist feed herself (appalling mess once again). The only thing to watch is to make sure you cut up things like sausages so they are not round - windpipe shaped and obviously keep an eye on things. It severely tests my DH's patience which is funny too - he is a worrier. I must say Ash does an excellent job picking through her food and it is a bit easier than preparing 3 separate meals.
It must be hard without your DH - hope you can be with him soon.
Kirra - good luck with the job hunt and study, maybe the perfect job is just around the corner!
Natasha - Sounds busy with lots of orders for you as well as the kids.
Melanie - Job worries are stressful - add that to lack of sleep, ugh, not much fun at all, hopefully things have settled down.

Hi everyone,

Samuel is eating a big variety now. I spoon feed him his cereal and some other meals but he also feeds himself lots of different finger foods. He has vegies, fruits, toast, lamb, beef, chicken and tuna, yoghurt, cheese and milk arrowroot biscuits. I chopped things quite small but not really mashing anymore. He likes to hold big chunks of things that breakdown easily like watermelon. We've only had one choking scare and that was with toast. I tried to fish it out of his mouth but couldn't reach it as it was in his throat so I laid him over my knees and gave him a whack on the back and the chunk of bread went flying about a metre across the room! It freaked me out but Samuel was perfectly happy and went on playing afterwards. It's only happened once and was just that he'd taken too big a bight. I guess the main thing is to watch them constantly and don't let them move around while eating.

He has a bad cold at the moment so I haven't had much sleep the last few nights. He is a little better this afternoon so fingers crossed we have a better night tonight.

Wow I can't believe some of the bubs are saying words already!! Samuel really just says a whole lot of "goobledegook"! Although he does say dada an awful lot!! I swear he said doggy the other day but noone else believes me :)

Wow, isn't it amazing how different all the little ones are! Don't worry Robyn, I guess a lot of it is that for some of us this is baby number 2 so I guess we arn't as scared as we have done it all before.
With pasta, if we are having some that is too big for Lily, I'll make her some rissoni as it is the size of rice! I usually feed her & give her a spon as well so that she can tart doing it herself. Although I must sy hat Lily has been very keen to feed herself from he start (but then she did have that period when she decided thatshe didn't want to eat!). So, to answer your question, yep, we all sit together & eat the same thing! As Mak said, its asier than making sperate meals & it's very very messy! ;)

Kirra - wow, Charli is a gutsy bub! Ha! So many feeds! :) I guess I'm Lucky, with the hours that Lily s up we couldn't get more than 3 in.

melsa - I do the same when Lily scoffs & has a bit of a choke. I remembered that from when pip was a baby. I remember I had just finished reading about what to do if bubs chokes in What to Expect theFirst Year & then About an hour later PIpe started to choke & I did it! Good timing, hey! Lucky Iwas with her & DH as I stay calm & he panics!:)

Mak - haha about Ashgetting payback on her ig sis once she an start getting around. I used to tell Pip to watch it because lily would get her back. Now Lily loves to pull on Pipers hair really hard!

isn't it an exciting time with bubs! we're still making separate meals for Katie, and they're all pretty mushy so we spoon feed, but after each meal she gets something to hold that she can chew/suck on and she is getting pretty good at actually swallowing some of it. Our biggest challenge is that bubby is sensitive to wheat & tomatoes (she gets eczema) which eliminates an amazing array of foods, including most of what we eat. I must admit though that the thing that is slowing down her feeding herself is me finding the time. Because I'm working for a lot of the week and bubby wants to be in bed by 6.30 each night its just seems too much of a rush of an evening, and there's not much chance to experiment during the day. Mashes are just so convenient and I have a freezer full of them that I mix and match each day. She'll get there eventually though I'm sure, I'll just have to put more effort in on the days that I'm not working...and into convincing her dad that it's not the end of the world if she makes a mess! :)

PS. Two teeth in the last 5 days, taking her up to 4...3 on the bottom and 1 on top...freakish huh!

Robyn- i tend to pick and choose what i spoon feed charli, brekkie along with yoghurt and pasta is usually me spoon feeding her, most of the time she grabs the spoon anyway but everything else she feeds herself.....she's even started trying to scoop herself....soooo cute. A good investment is a mess mat :D especially if u have carpet. lol. Charli just throws her food across the room anyway so mess mat unfortunately doesnt work for me...
And yep she eats with us, 3 meals a day.... and an afternoon snack too

Thanks Mak i need all the luck i can get. lol. How did you go weaning Ash?? Charli is very picky sometimes she'll take a bottle and other times she wont have a bar of it, makes me feel pretty guilty :(

Melsa, hope Samuel is feeling better soon.... charli too has quite a bad cold and its still hasnt gone away..... its been like 3 weeks now.... :(

Nat- Gutsy yes.....shes a lil piggy. haha. Wow that was good timing on the choking, my DP tend to panic as well but since i've done my kids aid course i feel much more relaxed.

FB- Wow 2 teeth is 5 days.... thats a good effort. lol. I check everyday on charli's but she just doesnt seem to wanna get anymore yet. lol. Freezer is my friend too :p

Charli slept most of the night from 10.30pm-6.30am without any feeds but she woke twice...... slowly getting there, step by step. lol

It's funny there were no posts for ages and now I have heaps to catch up on!!

Kirra - How's the study going? Well done to you fitting in study and being a mummy too it can't be easy. Wow Charli is still feeding lots, I would be lucky if Logan has 3 bfs a day.

Robyn - In regards to baby food we are also going the baby led solids path. I spoon feed Logan only things like cereal, soup and yoghurt. Everything else he uses his hands for. I used to cut food up into finger sized portions to make it easy to eat, but now we just cut things up into bite sized pieces. Logan only has 4 teeth but he manages to eat pretty well. I have tried everything except honey. He has whole egg and peanut butter (smooth). Brekky is usually weetbix or porridge, lunch is usually fresh fruit salad or a sandwich, and dinner is whatever we have within reason. There is a recipe section on BB somewhere which has great ideas.

Natasha - Yay on Lily walking about on the walker thingy lol. Logan must be the slowest one in the group )even though he is the oldest. Maybe it is a boy thing?? He rolls absolutely everywhere, sits and plays happily and stands confidently when i hold his hands. But... not even close to crawling. He thinks it is hilarious when I try and put him on his hands and knees and does not support his weight like this. Oh well maybe he will be one of those that go straight to walking. We also only have 3 feeds of milk a day sometimes Logan will have milk in the morning and then nothing more until late afternoon after which he won't have a bedtime drink so wakes up a couple of hours into his night sleep for it.

Mak - thanks for asking, we are well and truly settled into our house now.

We had a scare last week when we thought Logan had measles, but it was just a similar related virus. Started off with bad cold like symptoms, fever etc and ended up with rash. Lucky the rash didn't bother him at all. We also had our first fat lip which was horrible. Logan head planted the computer chair leg lip first. Blood went everywhere. Another first last night was our first bath floater. DH yelled out at me to help him, i thought something drastic had happened.... soooo funny!!

Hi FB - yes it is so fun isn't it! I am not too good with littlies but love this stage, so exciting exploring the world! Wow - that is serious teething, I am getting a bit scared as that is when things went downhill with DD1's sleep....I am hoping it will be better this time :pray:. I remember how quick that turn around is after work and am not looking forward to it - we had DD1 asleep in her highchair mid bite heaps in the first few months. I was a bit slack and used to do really quick meals - toast and sandwiches, I justified it as they have a hot meal at lunch ......
What is it with DH's and the mess - mine is almost obsessive, drives me batty :doh: and I am pretty clean.
I am also beginning to love my 3yo again, lol....sounds harsh but geez she has challenged us in ways I never imagined since Ash has arrived. All of a sudden she seems to have found the love....HOORAY!

Wow - so many posts in a short period of time.

FB- I am feeding my girls in a similar manner - something off a spoon from me and then some finger foods. Amber loves feeding herself, but Kaylee prefers to be spoon fed by me - I swear she just can't be bothered and wants it done for her.
My girls haven't had eggs or nuts (II was told to wait until they were 12 months!) and I only found out about the honey thing yesterday when I had them weighed. They had been having it on weetbix and sandwiches for months! :doh:

Alyssas_Mum - My girls are still having about that number of breastfeeds a day too!

:hello: to everone else.

On the teeth front Amber now has 5 (3 top and 2 bottom) although she did manage to chip one of her top front teeth :doh:. Kaylee has just got her 1st on the bottom.
Both girls are now standing and furniture surfing and Amber will now bend down and pick up toys off the floor to put on the table.
Amber does most of the talking (mainly dada) but also mum, bub and I swear she trys to say hello as well. Kaylee seems content to let her sister speak for her.

My girls had their first trial run at daycare a fortnight ago and have been sick ever since :crying: This means that they missed their next two trial days and now are booked in for tomorrow when I will be at work for a full 10 hours. They seemed fine with being there, but I missed them like crazy. Hope they will be ok tomorrow.

Well I will be back soon to update you all on how it went, but for now I best go as I need to prepare meals for tonight and tomrrow night and I am supposed to be writing an assignment too!

Has anyone else's bubba suddenly realised that they want stuff...and they want it NOW!

Katie has always just taken things as they come...apart from being put down for her daytime naps...doesn't appreciate them very much at all. But in the last couple of days, if she sees something that she wants, she lets you know very loudly that she wants it, and woe betide you if you want to go and change her nappy or something before she gets it.

I'm suspicious that she may have inherited her daddy's temper...:pray:

PS. on the milk feeding front, Katie has two formula feeds during the day (180ml), and a breastfeed first thing in the morning, and before bedtime. She gets one if she wakes up in the middle of the night too, mainly because it works, and she's now sleeping 11-12 hours, 2 out of every 3 nights so I'm hoping we never have to 'train' her to stop the night feed. :crossfingers: its a beautiful dream

And when it comes to changing his nappy... what a challenge.

I have started to use my legs to hold each arm down and just go for it as quick as i can. He will not lie still for any amount of time, so it is a race for how quick i can get the nappy on now.

I can picture it exactly, I'm pretty sure most of my younger brothers and sisters did it when I was a kid and Katie is working very quickly towards doing it herself. If it wasn't for the noise it would be very cute :)

and I'm with you on the nappy changes...who'd have thought their legs could move so quickly...and then there's the very unladylike ankles up over the shoulders look :lol:

FB - I know exactly what you mean. Logan did it tonight when I put him to bed. It was his normal bed time and he had the normal routine, but when I put him into bed he screamed until he went bright red and had snot bubbles coming out of his nose. When I picked him up he was calm instantly apart from the sobs as he had worked himself up so much. The reason he cried was that we had a visitor and he wanted to stay up with her!! Went to bed and sleep the minute she left....

On another note the dreaded AF returned yesterday for the first time in about 20 months!! DH comment was - Then we aren't pregnant!! Definitely on the TTC band wagon now :)

ATT- wow, i can't imagine how you do it, BF'ing to that many times a day, one is hard enough. lol. I hope they go ok at daycare..... im sure you'll worry yourself silly for nothing. Oh and dont feel bad about the honey its not something my MCHN told me about until my 8mth app either.....

FB- Yes, yes, yes, when Charli wants something she wants it and if she wants to play with it and you take it away prepare for a very unhappy child. lol. Her latest fascination is playing with the dishwasher and unfortunately it doesnt have a child lock :doh: .... Who invents a dishwasher that doesnt have a child lock??????
Luckily our nappy changes are good, 90% of the time she lays still and is good the other 10% is when she wants to play or im trying to change her/dress her on the floor which is just pointless cause as soon as you let go she's gone. lol.

Kylie- Charli did a similar thing the other week, naughty lil munchkins they are.

Well i have a very busy weekend ahead, i have preparations for alyssa's party today, then the party tomorrow, my sister and neices are staying over as well then sunday i have a group meetup with some friends..... should be exhausting. lol.

Haha! I'm so relieved to hear everyone's bubs are getting 'stroppy' (as my dad would call it) when they do or don't want something!! Samuel does this thing where he turns his head away and squeezes his eyes shut, then puts his hand up as if to say "talk to the hand mum!" It's quite funny but so rude!! lol

He has finally got over his cold but I am exhausted from the lack of sleep last week!

It's so interesting to read about all the similarities and differences between them.

ATT, how did the girls go at daycare? I have Samuel booked in for January when I go back to work and I'm apprehensive. Do they suggest a trial run or did you just choose to do that yourself? I'm not really very familiar with how childcare centres work...
