OK quick ignorant question - why is sleeping on tummy easier than sleeping on their back - is it for digestive reasons or preference??

I think I am lucky with Z in the car - he hardly ever cries unless he has a bit of wind and a quick burb fixes that. Probably because he is distracted all the time with the other two in the back talking to him. I often ask the kids - is Zander awake or asleep cos he is so quiet!

We had child care end of year BBQ tonight, and Zander was so good, I think I am lucky in that he hardly ever cries unless wind or hungry, even when overtired he just gets a bit whoozy and a little grizzly , but he is my third so maybe it is cos I am more relaxed - or don't hear it!!

We are still b/f well - well today anyway LOL

Getting out of the house can be hard, but yes I agree with setting mini-goals. Another few months and you will be out walking at 7.30 and waiting for the shops to open at 9 etc - it really does get easier - as Tanstar suggested too, it is all about being organised as much as you can - always have the baby bag ready to go so you don't have to restock it etc, pram in car night before, even go so far as make a sandwich night before so you can eat on the run - as long as you can see some sunshine if it is around - good luck Itsme for tomorrow.

belfie - special mention - wooohooo our X/Z's are 2 months old today already

SamiH - i dont think it is easier to tummy sleep as some baabies hate being on there tummy - dd was like that.
With DS he ha bad colic and wind and the pressue of his weight on his tummy helps him burp and fart in turn goving him comfort

itsme - DD was exactly the same - would scream non stop, and nothingi did would stop it, it would make me a wreak and iknow iuse to speed unintentionally to get there faster! i found a cd called music for minors(classical)and now haave it platinevery car ride and DS seems oso far - usually crys first 10 then setlles.
i always make sure hehad had a feed (even alittle one) b4 he goes in the car too so he will last the trip. *hugs* it does it easier in the car we promise!*...... until they r old enuf to get bored lol

amy_o - we self settled here. i will put DSin his cot while awake (as long as i know he is dry nappy and well fed) and let him try to fall asleep on his own. i will let him cry for around 5 minutes then pick him up, give cuddles then back down again.
now if he stirrs in the night he will put himself back to sleep.
i did this wuth dd too - no rocking etc) and by 4 months i could put her in her cot , say goodnight and close the door and that was it, she might have played for 1/2 hr but didnr need me to fall asleep. it was a god send!

hollye - yay for the bf! i didnt have a 6 week c/up. i will see them when i have to drag the kids to their 2month/18 month injections! yes at the same time.

as you can all see i am awake bright and early
ethan slept well 8pm-2am then awake at 5am
however ashley woke at 230 with he cot full of vomit,. so had to soak everything and bath her, poor lil thing. she is asleep in our bed with dh so will see how she is soon

PP - aaaahhhh now that makes sense re pushing tummy to make the wind come out - didn't think of that - yeah, my kids all hated being on their tummies when little when tired - my DD was a huge happy chucker so I could understand it must of made her feel really yuck However once they both learned to roll there was no stopping them sleeping on their tummies either!

You poor thing - if it's not one kid it's the other sometimes - I had the same thing a few weeks ago with my DD - just after i finished a night feed, she then vomited so was up for another hour doing the whole bath/bed change/hairwash thing ... at least with boys it is quicker cos you don't have to dry any long hair!!

Well Z had a good night - but after some advice if you have any ladies .... he feeds well between 4 & 5pm during that time, has a little battle nap of 10 minutes or so but by 6.30 he is so dopey and falling asleep in whoever is cuddling him or in the rocker. My dilema is I then try to give him a feed before he goes to bed - which he feeds for all of about 2 minutes, and falls asleep - but then wakes pretty much between 2 & 3am for next feed. I can't help but think if he could take a better feed a bit later he might get through to 6am!! I don't think a rollover/dream feed would work for him, he doesn't feed in his sleep - my DS1 did, but DD never did either ....

So any suggestions? I can't think of any other way to change his feeding pattern too much either cos I have school pick-ups as well so he feeds somewhere between 1pm and 2.30pm and we get home again around 3.30 and he wants a snooze after being dragged in and out of the car and excited kids in the car etc .....

Maybe I should try and give him expressed bottle at 4/5pm to make sure he gets a really good feed in at that time - he won't take the bottle if he is really tired, just starts screaming so ruled out giving it to him at that 6.30ish time ....

Sorry, bit of a ramble now! Better out than in

well we had a GREAT night
jack slept last night til after 9pm woke fed and went down after 10pm and slept til about 4am i heard him becoming restless so i hopped up in the dark and put the dummy in his mouth and he went back to sleep til around 6am fed and is still sleeping

[Bkuraiza]: One of the reasons babies don't need pillows is because they don't have necks (not really).[/B] It is also a SIDS guideline... I don't have a problem with it... as long as i know ALL risks etc.. I did it with my other 2 and they are fine.

Our paed was basically all for tummy sleeping (old fashioned DR).
Also it is VERY good for digestion of food in bubs... reason i know is because Jack was slept on his tummy in the NICU/SCN and i questioned it.. and the head paed. nurse explained it all to me. Although it CAN also cause over-heating probs in little babies.. as they get very hot laying on the side of their face. Babies regulate their temperature through their head and mainly through their face.

    Morning All

PP - Have you tried massaging some warm olive oil on his belly, really helps with getting the burps up. Sorry to hear both your little ones are sick with Gastro. hugs

Itsme - I hope you have a better day today, hugs for yesterday.

Sami - Can youbelieve your little Zander has hit the 2month mark? How quick has that gone? I cant believe Olivia is 6weeks today.

Katones, Tan, Amy, Hollye, HJ, Kuraiza, Belfie, Georgie - A huge H E L L O!!!!!!!!! I hope your all well. hugs

Well yesterday we had the midwife come again and Olivia is now 2450gm, which means she has put on 70gm since Friday. SO very happy with that little bubba girl of mine. You can see her little tummy starting to fill out, which is really nice to see.

If any of you are having trouble with wind, try warm Olive Oil massaged into the belly. I used this with all of my kids and it really does help. Olivia when she is having trouble getting her wind out from either end once I massage the Olive Oil into her belly well the wind start firing from both ends in no time at all. She is soooooo relaxed after it.

As for Olivia's "v" on her forehead I was searching the internet and as it turns out her birth mark is called a stork birthmark, but in it particular location on her forehead it is called a "Angel kisses" it eventually leaves but could take months or a couple of years. Some may not leave until the age of 5 and some may not go at all.

Anyway I too have some sick little chickies here, both older DD's are sick with the flu, so better go tend to them. Hugs all. (Ohhh and my BF just had her baby boy on Sunday, weighing in at 3kgs, laid Olivia along side of him and he is bigger, not by much in length tho.)

Itsme - Dh and myself don't go out often but when we do I don't rush I just take my time and when Iwe get there we get there. With twins you can never be sure what time your going to get to your friends place ect.

I went shopping for the first time by myself last week with the twins and lily. They were fine in the shopping centre as I feed them before I left But on the way home Sam cried and cried.

    Smile

Kuraiza - so glad it was addressed, but sad for you that the clinic didn't follow-up considering they put you in the high risk category! I do understand about having no support - we moved here when DS1 was 6 weeks old then DH went to Iraq after a week for 3 months! My saviour was mothers group - and I am still close to 5 of the original starters! I hope you find the support I did when your group starts

Hollye - Mia and Zander must be so opposite! You wrote that you just don?t have the time with everything else to b/f - I don't have the time not to! Zander only takes 10 - 15 minutes to feed (I have tried everything to see if he will take more- nup he just closes up shop and hops off the boob!) - so if I had to do bottles with sterilizing etc I would be more time poor than I am now. I am attracted to bottles though for a selfish reason - so I can see how much he takes cos I have no idea and still doubt he gets enough ? but he is a happy enough little fella so must be ok ?

Katones - quick question which is gunna sound reeeeeally ignorant and dumb - don't you kinda demand feed when FF? You wrote Jack is on 3 hourly feeds and you are trying to stretch them out so I was just wondering ? I haven't FF fully a bub under 6 months so don't know.

Amanda - yeah I think I will justhave to go with the flow. Zander doesn't get upset very much so I don't really wanna rock that boat and throw everything into chaos!

Georgi - I settled him in his cot at 5pm tonight for a catnap - which he did for 30 mins, he fed when he got up, and I just fed him (top-up really) at 7pm which he took more than normally and put him down 10 mins ago - however I would still prefer a 3am wakeup to a 5am for me cos if I get up and feed at 5am - means back to bed around 5.30ish but by the time I get to sleep time for me to get up - unless it is the weekend and DH can get up with the kids Oh to sleep in .............

PP - hope the kids are feeling better and the bug has left the house!

Hi all.. I had to disrupt Maya's morning nap to go for my 6 week check up and after that I had mothers group. So she's now a very over tired girl, but won't go to sleep. My DH has taken over trying to settle her to sleep! I wish she'd sleep when out and about! It would make my life easier.

Anyway, my check up went well. Everything is healing nicely. And I love having the mothers group to go to every Wednesday. It gets me out of the house and I get to talk to adults and see other babies. One woman today said her baby will only sleep for 1hour maximum at a time and he's now 12 weeks old, so she hasn't slept for longer than 1 hour at a time for 12 weeks! It put things into perspective for me!

belfie - We should swap phone numbers so we can call each other and cry on the phone to each other when things are tough! That's great your neighbour was there to help. I don't have anyone near by who can help me.

kuraiza - That's great that you asked for help and got it. I think a lot of mothers don't speak up and ask for help when they need it and things just get worse. You're definitely not alone in your feelings. I feel very alone too and my family is in Melbourne as well as me!

Sami - I know what it feels like to watch someone else have everything done for them! I actually like my ILs, which I know is unusual. But I am so jealous of my SIL cos my MIL is round at her place every chance she gets and does all my SILs housework and looks after the kids while my SIL sits around. Then my SIL complains about how hard looking after her kids is!

Georgi - Good to hear Byron is doing well again.

    Amanda -
I think it was just the stress of been a new mum and not use to been home 24/7 and all the pressure of trying to know what's wrong with the bub.
You basically summed up how I feel!

Hollye - Hope Mia is doing better now!

Katones - Hope you are feeling better.

Cathie - Yeah I find it hard enough getting out with one baby. I can't imagine how hard it'd be with two!

To everyone else: Hello! Sorry that's all I can manage for today. *sigh* Maya's still crying and not sleeping!! It's so frustrating because I know she must be so exhausted!! Yet she won't sleep.

even tho mia is 80% on formula she is still demand feeding. she can have a feed and want more an hour later. So i dont think formula makes a difference in that area.

Mia is feeling a little better.. she had a good 5 hour sleep after i gave her some panadol, which im so happy about coz she was soooooooo overtired. Shes up now but seems so much happier. And she had a huge poo! one of them big explosive ones!

When we went to get all the goodies today to make Mia feel better we went for a big walk. I so need to lose about 50 kilos!!!

I cant wait for the mothers group to start in january.. i feel so alone.

Hollye - My mothers group starts in January as well and there is also a local playgroup that is at the same place we go to see the MCHN. I can't wait to get out and meet some mums and bubs from around here. Most of my friends live about 40mins away and don't come to visit very often. So I understand when you say how lonely it is.

PP - how are the kidlets going?

Ethan is tired (from being up all night no wonder!!!).

MOthers groups are great - especially for those with bubs the same age!

Hollye - It's amazing how much happier babies are after a good sleep! I just wish it was easier to get them to sleep when they need it!

Well I'm already having a bad day. Last night we finally got Maya to go to sleep around 8.30pm. Then she woke at 10.30pm, 2am and 6am. Normally she goes back down for a sleep in the morning, but she didn't want to sleep, so I figured that she needed some play time. But she kept crying no matter what I did! I finally fed her again at 8.30am. Normally by that time I've done two feeds not three! Then she was yawning heaps so I tried putting her down for a sleep and I kept having to go to her every few minutes!

I don't know how any of you manage to settle your babies in their beds! If I try and settle her in bed she just gets louder and louder! So I always have to pick her up and walk around for ages till she goes back to sleep!

And I find it so hard when she's crying a lot. I start to question everything - is she hungry again? Is she over tired? Does she need play time? Should I persist with trying to put her to bed or play with her or feed her?! I often wonder if I'm doing the wrong thing and that's why it's a battle to get her to sleep!

Ah she's awake again.. gotta go. Hope everyone else is having better days so far!

Hollye my older three boys have all had heinz nuture and they had no problems, no constipation or anything. That's also great that you got to go for a walk, I've also got to lose about 30kgs, but would be happy with 20.

Going to go out later and get a christmas tree and some advent calendars for the older boys, also just to get out and have a look at the shops.

    hugs xoxo
