Kat - it is fine to let him go overnight without a feed , he will make up for it during the day!
Well i had to share my joy!
Ethan went to sleep at 930 and slept until 130am!!!!!! OMG DH and i had no idea what to do after such a big sleep lol.... we usually get 4 hrs in an entire night not in one go! lol
Anyhow he fed at 430 and 730 and now asleep again... woohoo.... lets hope the 3 hr feeds continue and improve!
-
Morning All,
I hope you are all well and your bubbas are doing wonderfully. hugs
Katones- He sounds content to me. Try not to worry, I am sure the last feed filled him up which is why he is sleeping again. As for dtd, I am so dreading it. Just not looking forward to it whatsoever.
Well last week the pediatrician wanted me to try and express some BM after Olivia had her feed and 20mins from her last feed give her the expressed BM which he said 60mls of it. Well tried that and was taking well over 1hr to get 60mls after she fed, so anyway she needed her feed on the BB way before that again and then would sleep or be on and off the BB's which is normal for her anyway. So then tried giving her some formula after she ate, didnt work either, she would have a bit of it, then I gave her some formula as a full feed, didnt work either, the whole lot was brought back up. So tried for a few days and was getting a bit worried that if I kept it up she would end up losing weight come Fridays Appt, so will mention it to the pediatrician then aynway, so fingers crossed she has gained some weight come Friday.
-
WOO HOO !! PP i am soo happy for you and i do hope the 3hourly feeds continue!!!!
Thanks PP & Csab.. i guess i am just a worrywort!!
He is still co-sleeping, still undecided if this is good or if it is bad....
we are off to the Drs this afternoon... he has a horrible rash on one side of his face & the back of his head/neck
-
on the DTD thing.. No.. im still bleeding :( and im not sure when we would get time...
Katones - sounds like ur lil man is having a growth spurt :) i hope things settle a little for u!
PP - 4hours wooohooo!! fingers crossed it stays that way!
Mia is 4 weeks today! wow time has flown. She didnt have any formula last night so feeling very proud. She fed at 8pm, 10:30pm, 3am, 7:30am and had a little top up breast about 8:30.. so just waiting for her to wake.. any time now.
On the 6 week c/u. Yeh Mia and me have one tho i havent made it yet. I have a choice whether i make it with my midwife or my doctor. I think they like you to touch base thats all. Oh ladies dont forget we are all meant to have a pap smear 6 weeks ish after birth! *sigh* And i have to get a perscription for the mini pill at that 6 week check. Poor DP, sex is so no existant..thats the best contraception!
-
PP - YAY good for you getting some sleep too!! Good boy, keep it up! Did you do anything different?
Supply/demand - we all feel a bit *empty* in the afternoons and evenings, but that doesn't mean you have no milk mummies, so try not to stress about that too much. I have never had a supply issue though, but I feel empty too froma round 4pm and bedtime feed, Zander pull on/off etc grabbing my nipple pulling it down (let-down stimulation) - but I know that is because he is tired and gets a bit uncoordinated!!!
Gotta go feed !!!
Our routine still seems to be last feed around 7 or 8pm, bed, then feed again somewhere between 2.30 - 3.30am then up around 6.30ish .... still tired, what's with that LOL??
katones - rash - any excema in your family, or changed any washing powder, you put different moisturiser on your face/body, eaten anything different? I never forget the awful rash DS1 had all over his body when he was about 3 months - it was a bad heat rash - I was at my SIL's who have slab heating and didn't even think about him being on the floor was irritating his skin!! hope it is nothing serious ;)
-
nah we didnt do anything different... lol who knows!
he has been throwing up this morning... so will see how this morning goes! :)
Oh and we GOT A SMILE!
-
oh my gawd, it's just dawned on me that the 2 month immunisations are creeping up on us. I am not looking forward to having poor Jude stabbed with needles. :(
Sex is so far from my mind right now, I'm not sure my stitches have fully healed and I am still spotting very slightly (it's now officially beyond 6 weeks). And quite frankly, I'm way too tired.
Jude's being fussy this morning and wanting to eat eat eat. He usually saves that for the afternoon, which means I'll probably run out of milk early today. joy. :wall:
Sami: I really don't have a good milk supply. It's incredibly frustrating for both me and Jude. I don't understand it, but my right breast is almost always like an empty sack while my left breast has a better and more reliable milk supply, but not enough to provide full feeds all day long. I have a feeling it has something to do with the mastitis I developed in week 1 and how I couldn't feed Jude because my nipple was too swollen and expressing was extremely painful.
-
PP - Great to hear you got some sleep!! Here's hoping it continues. :) Ohh.. and I've been getting smiles now too. :) But I can't work out what triggers her to smile?!
katones - I haven't DTD either. I actually felt like it very soon after birth, but I was much too sore from c/s. Now I am way too exhausted to ever think about it! Oh and I agree that you should enjoy the long sleeps when they come.
Well.. Maya seems to have suddenly changed her feeding routine and now feeds heaps in the mornings and less in the afternoon?! She also fed more yesterday than normal. I read that they go through a growth spurt around 6 weeks, so I assume that's what it is.
Last night after a feed and bath we got her in bed at 11pm and she slept till 5am. :) So I got around 5 hours of sleep in a row!! :) But then she wouldn't go back to sleep! Eventually at 8am I pulled her into bed with me, offered her my boob and fell asleep for an hour with her feeding then sleeping next to me!
-
well my boy had dermatitus on his face/back of his neck :( so there goes our co-sleeping, thats why he has it!!!! too much heat/sweating from laying/snuggling....
-
Kat - can you co sleep with him on top of your sheets and you under them?
this is what i do.
Ethan also has heat rash - hard not to with the temps atm and it was 98% humidity up here yesteday.
Itsme! What are you doing still up at 11 lol! i try to watch all saints but pass out by 9! lol but great sleep!:)
-
Katones - Olivia has a rash on her face and back of her neck but has had it since the hospital, yet has become alot more worse. The Dr had told me in the hospital it was from the hormones. Last week I was told it was from the hormones too. I feel so sorry for her. Yet now it looks like she has developed excema on top of it. Looks like I am off to the Dr's again tomorrow and then as I have the pediatrician on Friday I may get him to check it out too.
Sami - I definately have plenty of milk too, its only when you go to express it with the pump does it not come out as quick as I would like, takes way too long. Yet once Olivia is on there she is gulping way too much from the quick flow. Go figure!!!!!! I am still tired as well. Cant believe how tired I am even after having not bad sleep.
Itsme - Those growth spurts, really keep us on our toes, I just wish Olivia would show some good growth when I have her checkups. I know she is only little, and has such a tiny belly and cant expect her to gain a heap of weight, but just as long as I get some weight gain that the Dr's will be happy with for her size. She is way under the weight graph in the blue book for her age. She isnt even on the bottom line. So fingers crossed she gets to hit the graph soon.
Hi PP..... hope your doing well.
Georgi - How is little Byron doing?
Hello to everyone else, hope your all doing well. hugs
-
PP we only have a bottom fitted sheet and then the doonah....(he doesn't have the doonah over him)
he has been in his bassinette since about 4.30 this afternoon.. so i am getting ready for a LOOOONG night....
Csab.. it is definatly eczema/dermatitus... we were at our GP's this afternoon, we are also going to paediatrician on monday for our 6 week check up :D
OH and he is 5.2kgs!!!!!
-
PP - I'm still up at 11pm because I can't get Maya into bed for the night till 10-11pm! :( Usually I have to do a feed somewhere between 9 and 10pm, plus settling time, which means I don't get to bed till somewhere between 10 and 11.30pm.
csab - I hope Olivia has a good weight gain at her next weighing. :)
Maya's crying again. DH is attending to her.. but I guess I'll have to try another feed soon.
-
Worst-night-ever!
Fed Jude at 8pm hoping to get to bed early. No. Fed again at 10pm then trying to settle until midnight. Woke up again at 2am, settling until 4am, then woke up at 4.45am, at which point I fed him some formula which settled him until 8am but I had a very troubled sleep. Finally got some sleep from 9am until 11.45am.
How will I get through today? I wonder if Jude's sick.
-
well we managed quite well last night with NO ore co-sleeping!!!
Jack fed at 8.30pm.. and went down well :D and slept til 2am..fed and then went straight back to sleep til around.... 5.30am... fed and back to sleep til around 9am :D
I was soo sad :( i missed my lil man in bed with me.... hubby said he could see that i missed him!!
BUT his day sleeps are horrid!!!!... i now have him in the sling...to get him to sleep...
Kuraiza....does he have any temps?? if not i would just say... he had a shiat night and is just being a bub!!!
-
kuraiza - I can't remember where I read it.. but I read somewhere that babies go through a growth spurt around 6 weeks, where they need more food but there's not enough supply, so they feed more often and are more unsettled until more milk comes in. Maybe that's what's happening? But really.. I have no idea!
katones - Maya's day sleeps are horrid too! I put Maya down at 1.30pm after a feed, then resettled her at 1.50pm and again at 2.15pm. Wonder how long she'll stay down for now.
I just realised today that I have no idea how to tell when Maya's hungry or just needs to be resettled?! Normally I feed her every time she wakes but today I've tried resettling instead and if she sleeps for a bit then I let her sleep but if she won't go to sleep then I feed her.
-
Itsme.. i feel the same!!! i get so sick of re-settling him though.... then i end up really frustrated!!!
-
itsme - what i have started doing is giving DS the dummy and tyring for 15 minutes if he still wont settle then i assume it is hunger and feed him (this is if he wakes and crys under 3 hrs),
I have been trying not to feed less than 3 hrly so that he gets more effiecient with bigger feeds to last longer overnight.
last night he went to bed at 9pm and woke at 2am then woke at 5am. so i was happy with that.
He has been screaming all morning since 730am and got him to sleep finally at 11am (after a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge poo - hence why he was crying i guess) and is still asleep!).
-
PP - Thanks for the suggestion. I'm going to try settling for 15 minutes before feeding. During the day I seem to be feeding every 2 hours at the moment - so far today I've fed at 3am, 8am, 10am, 12am and 2.30am. I am grateful that the 2 hour feeds aren't during the night, but it's still exhausting doing them during the day. It sounds like waiting for 3 hours is working for you! I hope you got a good sleep last night. :)
katones - Yes I am sick of resettling too. Happily she seems to settle ok at night time, but during the day I can barely sit down.
Maya won't take a dummy. Is there some trick to it? Or just some bubs don't like them?
I just don't know how much play time I should give her, how often I should try feeding and when to tell that she's getting tired. I'm in a very frustrated mood today and suddenly feel like I know nothing! :(
-
Itsme - None of mine took the dummy, they did at first and then a few days later spat it out and acted like they were choking on it. So never bothered with it after that, thought it was better anyway not giving it to them as thought what a pain it would be to get them off it. Havent tried at all with Olivia, dont recall really even trying with DD2 either.
I am up with Olivia all afternoon, until she her bedtime around 9-10.30pm. Olivia had slept like normal with an extra half hour added last night from 10pm until 5am. She is such a good sleeper at night (touch wood) I am so proud of her. :)
Had the Dr check her rash out again so will put some prescribed cream on her face now, he thought that it would be better to try and get rid of it since it has been a week since he last saw her. Fingers crossed her face will be all cleared up soon.
-
itsme. DD was a 2hr snacker. that s why i am vowing to stretch them out this time as it drove me crazy.. she was feeding 2hrly until 4months 24hr a day then during the day until 7 months!
As for the dummy. DD only has hers at night in bed now. we stopped her having it in waking hours about 7-8 months and she was fine! :)
-
Dummy - itsme some bubs just don't want them! But mine have  There is a bit of a knack the first few times, gently holding it in so they get the feeling of sucking it in and not pushing it back out with their tongue, once they have a grip they either suck furiously and settle or keep spitting it out etc ... try it when they are calm and not stressed or crying - it will only upset them more to have something foreign shoved in their mouth, it might help Maya if she has some wind too as often they just wanna suck for comfort but the milk thing gets in their way and increases their belly-ache - I think that is how we have kept Zander's tummy pains at a lower level than they would be - poor little mite has a hard time sometimes. Um, what else .... babies at this age should be *awake* on average 1 hr - 1hr15min, you should see tired signs by this time, the trick is to try and catch them as soon as they start .... it is hard work and nothing much else gets done - but just look after you and your bubby.
Zander had bad pains last night and screamed with real tears for about an hour last night  so he had his first dose of paracetomol - poor darling. He was in such pain. Of course it was between 7pm and 8pm - with DH away so I had to get the other 2 to bed as well, I was soooooo drained by 8.30pm once they were all asleep I went to bed straight away. I heard him stir quite a few times but I have this *thing* that unless he is waaahh'ing or cries out, I won't get up to groans and moans - and he fed at 3.30am and settled really well afterwards until 7am.
Let's all hope for a better night tonight.
-
Jack has a dummy :) only because when he was in the SCN/NICU they gave him one!!!
his day sleeps are SHIAT!!!! touch wood he stays alseep now... til about 7ish....
he settled beautifully last night :D hope it continues...
one other thing someone suggested to me.. and i did it last night...
my PJ t-shirt that i wore yesturday(i leaked boobie milk on it) i put over his matress in his bassinette (tucked in tightly).. it has my smell all over it and he is MUCH more content when he does sleep.
-
Mia has a dummy.. she loves it. She doesnt need it to sleep she just enjoys having it in her mouth. if u pulled it out, she doesnt care. if shes screaming i rub it on the roof of her mouth for her to grab it.
-
kat - ethan prob only has 1-2 good sleeps a day. usually awaje for 3 hrs between.
they say at this age to stimulate for only 20 minutes after a feed then settle but it is impossible to do that with a 17 month old running around screaming :P
-
Dummys all my boys have had a dummy a one stage or another, they are a god send most of the time. Julian hasn't got one yet, but if he needs one I will defineately give him one. The only problem is when the first get , you can be up half the night putting it back in as they cry when they drop it.
Growth spurts happen at 3weeks, 6weeks and 3mths, bub will feed more often to get more milk to be produced, I agree with Sami, usually you think you milk has gone but it's just them trying to get more milk to be made.
I've found out that after I've had curry/spicey food, Julian gets colic like pains and we're up almost all night. This happened on Monday night, I think that I got about 2hrs sleep that night, the poor baby. I'm going to the BB xmas dinner on Saturday night with DH and Julian so that should be fun.
hugs xoxo
-
well we had a shiat night!!!! DS fed at 8.30 pm then again after 9, then again at 11...then again at oh i can't really rmember now....then my phone rang at 8am while i was sleeping...DS is still asleep now... i look like i stuck my finger in a power point.. my hair is everywhere :D and i am about to give up the Boobies :( it isn't sustaining him at all.
-
kat - like amanda says he is prob having a growth spurt.
ds cluster feeds in the evenings too.
you r doing a great job! :)
-
well my boy has just had a feed and is down for a sleep... i hope/pray he has a decent sleep....
-
katones - hugs hun! xoxo
PP - madly keep checking the mail today..
Was a fannnnnnnnnntastic night. Mia slept 8pm till 1am and 2am till 6am and 6:45am till 9:45am.. ahhh was lovley!
whats everyones plans for today..? except raising their children.. hrmmm i dont seem to do anything else either.
-
my plans today....
hmmm NOT much... try and stop myself from crying ALL day.. try and stop Jack screaming ALL day...and hopefully get some sleep....
-
hmmm crying all day isnt good.. is it just the BFing thats bothering you?
-
I just feel alone, and that I'm not doing anything right with Jack..god i can't even get him to sleep...
-
Katones - step away from the puter and go for a walk hun ;) I'm not having a good day sleep-wise with Zander today either - it's really frustrating isn't it - you feel like you spend the day just getting them to sleep and wonder why you are so buggered at the end of the day!
We have the school Christmas Fair on late arvo/early evening so am praying  it doesn't rain - my DS1 is soooo excited. Just a bit of a PITA cos I have to pick him up at 3.10 - home and get changed out of uniform, then back to the school again around 4pm  Lucky it is only 5 minutes drive away.
In the meantime, still trying to settle Zander after his 30 minute cat nap ... grrrr :wall::wall:
-
i agree with samiH get out and get some fresh air! it makes a world of difference.
I took ashley to a play group this morning - she is very clingy and shy around other children and i am trying to get her used to it. Ethan cryed from 630am - 1200pm when i have finally got him to sleep (usual morning for us).
i went back to a friends house who has a 5 month old and her mother was there too. Ashley was maing a mess with her lunch throwing it everywhere in play. Ethan was screaming as usual, and i am juggling the 2,t hen tyring to bf ethan while ashley is trying to climb their 15 stairs. I think Her mum was a little overwhelmed at the chaos.
I think realised perhaps i shouldnt leave the house as it can be daunting and i probably look like a non-responsive mother to ashley ( i ensure she isnt doing anything naughty but if i am settling ethan and she is doing something that isnt going to harm her self or damage something ... ie picking up books of a shelve and putting them o nthe ground - i let her and i can clean them up in 20 mintues when i am finished with DS). but to the person who 's house it is it must look terribly chaotic! and so perhaps wer should stick to going to the park or something in stead.
Hollye- i hope the mail arrives and whoot on your good day!
Well the storms are said to return again to night. to will buckle down to see if there is any other damage.
-
Hey Ladies & Babies.... My nieces & sister have gone back to Sydney now :crying:
I took Byron to some Kinesiology today... Weird! Dunno if anyone has done this before, I haven't, but I was told it would help Byron as he seems to have a digestive problem. He projectile vomits (sometimes) but is always upset in the tummy. He only poo's every 4 days now & only cause I give him 20mls of water. I have a paed apt next Thurs so will check it out. I'm hoping the Kinesiology has done the trick. Though I must say, I am sceptic.
Other than that he's still a good baby. He still sleeps fairly well.
It's so hot here on the Goldy.. I think i'll take Byron for his first swim in the pool. I'll be sure not to put his head/face in though. Let's see if he howls...
CSAB - Really good thanks. He's growing big & strong. Such a fatty now. 5.2kgs. How's miss Olivia? How'd you go at the paed's today?
-
georgi - can you explain the kinesology?
Ethan is the same throws up with his burps and alwasy upset in the tummy. i find belly sleeping has helped though
-
well Jack is asleep and has been now (touch wood he stays asleep!!) for over 1/2hr....
stubborn little shiat he is!!
We did get out this morning..only to woolies :) but hey i did get out... am about to bring in the 2 loads of washing i hung out this morning... and maybe just maybe have some lunch...
-
I had a good night, but am having a bad morning too! Maya slept from 10.30pm till 5pm, then from 6.30am till 9.30am. But since 9.30am I cannot get her to sleep! I finally put her in a sling at 1.45pm and she seems to be settled for now. I'm still in my PJs and finally just ate something!
I think we can all use this: :grouphug:
katones - Hun I feel exactly the same way as you when I'm having bad days/times. So you are definitely not alone in your feelings! As Amanda said (and I remember reading it somewhere) they have a growth spurt around 6 weeks and they are more unsettled and want to feed all the time till your milk ramps up! From what I remember reading a lot of mothers give up BFing around 6 weeks or 3 months when it's the difficult period. I am finding it difficult too, and it does cross my mind sometimes how much easier it would be to FF but I've decided to stick it out for a couple more weeks and by that time it'll probably be better! From what I remember it's bad for a few days as your milk ramps up but then it gets better again.
Hollye - My plans today are to try and get dressed at some stage. And maybe even have a shower.
csab - Maya does exactly the same thing with a dummy, she spits it out and when it's in her mouth she seems like she's choking on it.
SamiH - I've tried giving Maya a dummy when she's calm and holding it her mouth. But she either pushes it out with her tongue, chokes on it or starts crying. :( I guess I always thought all babies took dummies and it was going to be my saving grace, but I just can't get her to take it. I guess long term it's probably a good thing. But short term it'd be nice to have her calm and settled with a dummy. Oh and I struggle to see any tired signs from Maya until she's over tired. :( I've read what the signs are, but I just can't see them until she's yawning or crying.
PinkPalace - I doubt they were thinking you are a non-responsive mother! They were probably thinking what a tough job it is juggling two young kids! I know what you mean about it being daunting to leave the house though. I drove somewhere yesterday and had Maya screaming the whole way there and the whole way back. Then when I am out and about all she does is cry.
Wow.. it's now 2.15pm and she's been asleep on me for half an hour! Phew!
-
hrmm we are having one of "them" days too.. my sis wants me to visit at 4pm.. oh my i havent even brushed my hair!
