Babies Born October 1st ~ 15th 2009

Been MIA, too! Just enjoying the new kid and having fun learning how our new family dynamics work. I'm also a bit far behind for personals and haven't been home to lurk, so will read and catch up soon :)
T has had some pimples lately - disappearing now, but I put it down to hormones, too. DS broke out in little pimples at about this time, if I remember correctly.
Loving my quiver of slings and loving how DS comes into my bed in the middle of the night to snuggle us quietly :) Just loving that, even though DP doesn't (cos he reckons he runs out of room, but he's always sleeping on the edge of the bed whether DS comes in or not!!).
Haven't used the buggy yet, which is nice! I have no idea how she'll go in it (DS wasn't a fan for ages) - might bring it to the zoo on Thursday and give it a test run in a local park beforehand.
Ok, gonna see about eating something...

Girls the rash sounds like Milia rash, some people call it milk pimples but it is casued by hormones not milk. Little miss got hers the day after she was born.

Ery so glad ot hear things are on the up for you and Ella. Will let you know when I am coming down and we will catch up again.

It sounds like everyone is doing pretty well, which is awesome to hear.
I can join the boat too, Little Z is a dream so far and I am praying that it stays that way. She has a pretty good routine of sleep, eat and play going at the moment. We also get lots of smiles already, especially at DS. Best be off to feed her but will try and jump on again later.

Hey all had another great night of waking her at the 5 hour marks...dr said longest 5 hrs at night and longest 4 hrs during the day...

Gained 75g over the weekend so is now 2.1kg and a month old today!!!

Ordered my chrisco today yipee

went out on sat got my pram I won on eBay ~valco rebel and I love it....had hunter vomiting sat night and then yesterday he was fine but niesha was vomiting so they're home today but still having a pretty easy day with the 3 kids have 30 min til I leave to get mally from school though lol

Oz - how long do the pimples usually last for because Ella's seem to be getting worse.

Heavenly - what an itty bitty baby serenity is! what size clothes is she in? I though Ella looked tiny and she was 3.280kgs at 38 weeks! I was told only to leave it 4 hours between feeds during the day too, though if she wants to feed more frequent I do.

She wears 00000 with growing room but I have a couple 000000 she's quite tall for how skinny she is I think cos her weight was s couple weeks behind when born

Heavenly: That is so tiny, she must be like a little tiny doll.

Tara is just over 3 weeks old and she has already graduated from 0000 to 000 clothes, not because she is a big baby (only 3200g at birth) but because she is so long. It is scary as she only just seems to fit 000 all in one suits in length now, at least with summer coming we should get some wear out of the 000 summer clothes I bought for her (ie: no legs or feet to worry about).

Heavenly awwww she is so small. Have you had Chrisco before? Is it any good?

Kelly my DD is long too and has just gone into 000 all in one suits. Does your DD have long feet too?

Erybery I am not sure how long the rash normally lasts, DD's only lasted a few days but then came back for a few days. It has been hot where you are so she may have some heat rash too.

Midwife is coming out today to check DD's weight I think this will be one of her lasts visits, I am actually going to miss not seeing her every few weeks. Hopefully when I have our next baby I can have her as my midwife again.

Im in lakeside been here for just over a yr now skybie.

I was reading up on the net that the rash tends to last anywhere between a few days to a few weeks. there isnt much we can do about it as it goes away by itself, but with summer coming up its going to be interesting to see if it flares up again. Just wondering how's every1's babies r going with sleeping, feeding and playing. Jessica seems to sleep alot and isnt awake much at all, as soon as she's fed she goes back down to sleep. Its quite rare if she is awake for longer than 10 mins at a time, when she isnt feeding!!

I found 000 lasted for ages once sophie got into them, but then again she didnt put on much weight and still is quite petite for her age. Got love trying to get them in full suits when their so long :)

Mzy my DD has loads of awake time, I am actually trying to take better notice of her tired signs and put her down as I think she might be getting over tired. She can be awake for up to two hours sometimes. She is always so alert.

Got a little emotional when I went to the belly buddy section and it was now closed, despite having a crap pregnancy (except for 3 weeks) I felt a little upset that the door had closed and we were moving into a whole new phase of our lives- too many hormones Id say :doh:

Izzy has too much awake time in my opinion, she fights sleep soo bad and only cat naps for most of the day, she usually has about 2 hours straight sleep once a day but onlt 10-20 minutes every couple of hours otherwise, its very draining

Ha, Skye - isn't EVERYONE around the corner from everyone else in Lakeside? It's like a spiral in there!
T picked up a lurgy from a cousin on Sunday :( Yesterday and the nights have been a bit crappy and I think DS has picked it up, too - velcro kid and this morning sniffly, grrr.
T is still in 0000 clothes but her feet belong in 00 sized all in ones! Got another big flipper kid...but DP and I are not petite feet people, either ;)
Anyhow, about to head out to visit a friend (keeping T safely in the sling so she doesn't pass anything on if she still has the lurgy, friend has been warned that I'll keep T close to avoid spreading germies!) and get some things from Spotlight etc., while DS is in creche.

Ella is in 000's and some 0000 but again she is so long with big feet, still all arms and legs though!

Lilydust- good to hear from you hun!

im getting chrisco this year too, the cottage hamper, i know its way over priced in the end but who misses $3 a week from their account or could be bothered saving it! I have got the same hamper a few years ago and also the italian hamper one year. It's fun receiving the package!

In terms on sleep, feed , play Ella can be awake for the whole feed to the next at times (though at least not crying the whole time now) but generally is up for 1.5 hours-2 hours at the moment from the start of the feed.

Yep, Tara has long feet and long fingers as well.

Myz: Tara only started to have more awake time over the past few days, sometimes up to 2 hours at a time. You will probably find that over the next week your awake time will get longer. For the first couple of weeks they are still trying to get over birth and trying to get used to the outside world and once the food intake increases you will notice more awake time. I am loving this time now as Tara is reacting back to me when I talk to her with gurgles and face movements.

Anyway just back from our 3 week Maternal health check and Tara has put on 300g in 9 days, which I'm so happy about after her losing weight when we first came home from hospital, so it seems being formula feed is agreeing with her. So she now weighs 3510g or 7lb 7oz in the old scale and she is now 52cm long which I'm sure is mostly legs.....

mzy, i should have added, izzy is almost 8 weeks old so dnt take any notice of my post about awake time, lmao

girls chrisco is gr8 its way overpriced, but so convenient esp now we have bubs r multiple for some, i get it every yr. I have also ordered hamper king this yr too for the first time so will c whats like when it gets here. I cant wait.

Hi everyone, lets try again for a longer post :D

Little Lukey has being a handful for the last 2 days. On Monday he was constantly vomiting up his feeds and I think the heat got to him yesterday. On the good side he has put on some weight (130g from Friday to Tuesday) which is making me feel better.

Had my first mothers group yesterday which I was late for so didn't get to meet many people but they all seemed more confident than me - perhaps were all just faking it! Good news was that i had to feed there which left me without my feeding pillow but i managed and am now just feeding him directly in my arms which is heaps better for my back.

Jen - great news on the milk supply. This BF is a lot harder than I ever imagined.

Maya - wish I could be as confident as you. DH keeps telling me to forget the science and let nature take its course.

Skybie - wow those 8 weeks have flown.

Just put the two kids down and did some tidying up - might as well, next week it's just me again. Anyhow, decided tonight was as good a night as any to take T up to the fire station, and DS came with us. I"ve left DP up there to get a lift back and I'm kicking back with a chai...but still have some clothes to sort through after my GF brought over some baby clothes and size 3 clothes for DS...living room is a mess, but dishes are clean!
Cam - It took some working on and once I got to trusting my Mummy Instinct it never let me down after that. You know how to parent your child better than anyon else will know how to parent, nourish and teach your child - please never forget that. No book and no expert is ever as expert as you when you are parenting with love...which most of us do! You know how to do it, somewhere inside - Pinky McKay is a great read for learning how to tap into that (love her because she doesn't give instructions or tell you how you 'should' do things, she guides you to finding instinct) :)

Tomorrow is supposed to be zoo day with DS, but he's been snotty tonight (as in, real snot, not grumpy!) and congested (thanks to BiL for not quarantining sick kids :( ) and may not be up for it. I hope he is, though.

Hi girls,

well wat a crappy day!!! dp has a week off to help me out and so far it feels like we havent achieved anything. We spent most of today waiting for ppl to show up and then entertaining the mother in law when we had stuff to do lol. dd1 was soooo clingy and grumpy it was driving me nuts!!! but the poor girl is teething majorly, she has had 2 pop up on one side-one being a molar i think, and now she is getting 4 on the other side of her mouth :doh: so hopefully they come thru within the next couple of days so she is happier next wk when im left alone :pray:

dd2 was really good today, slept heaps and then woke up for a longer period of time when her uncle came to visit. dp couldnt believe it lol!! as he has hardly seen her awake. we then had to go to a speech night for dp's eldest child (from his 1st marriage) and dd2 projectile vomited after i finished feeding her in the car, luckily i had a change of clothes for her. she still isnt happy and she has had 2 more feeds since, (it must be onions) but my boobs feel like theres nothing left LOL. When this was happening dd1 was running around causing havoc at the speech night and my dp was pulling his hair out wondering why i was taking so long :lol:

So all in all we have had an adventurous day.

Gee i feel better after that, sry it was so long!!

Hi everyone, I think all of us have reason to be M.I.A. at the moment lol.

Praise the powers that be, Miss Laicee seems to have turned a corner and has become a lovely little creature instead of a screaming, squirming nightmare.....yipee....

She still is only sleeping 3 hours max and is awake for hours on end in the middle of the night...party girl lol...but she is not screaming she just is awake, I can live with that, my body seem to be adjusting to limited sleep. I am still using the HAB a lot during the day but she has progressed to her own bed at night, I think we were keeping each other awake at night in the same bed and she has gone to her own bed willingly. Bad news is the infection that I was terrified of has arrived I went to the doc this morning and had it confirmed...I thought I was sweet at nearly 6 weeks that I had escaped and all was good, but I havent got the intense pain or discharge like the last one it is just a tenderness like a punch in the belly and it is in the region that bubs feet were kicking me frantically when we were living in "Colic County" so it could be that or the fact that I was vaccuuming whilst carrying her in the HAB and have done too much too soon. Hopefully we have caught it early enough and it can get it sorted.

Welcome to all the new mummies and I hope my Belly/Baby Buds are doing well and bubs are thriving and giving out the Gummy Grins....gotta love the gummy grins even if they have kept you up for hours and have screamed the house down all day and night they flash those gums at you and it makes it all worthwhile....

Nina - sorry to hear about the infection, I was put on antibiotics a week after Ella was born as very tender abdomen and the bleeding started to get heavier with cramping. The medicaion cleared it up real quick, hope you feel better soon.

Selina, I hope it resolves itself soon - it'sd not easy, but think ahead to when it's all cleared up and gone (and it WILL be!), imagine how you are feeling in this forward time of wellness and imagine yourself thinking back to when you had it and realising that that time has passed. Enjoy the imaginary relief for the moment it lasts! Meanwhile, hoping for very quick healing for you :hug:
We went to the zoo today - DS is knackered and still sickly, so no swimming happened tonight :( T was great at the zoo in her sling...didn't spend much time in the buggy, but I didn't mind :)
3 more days of DP home, unless he chucks in his job, which I'd be happy about cos he is a misery guts while he's got that job!

Not much happening here, took DD out today in the pram for the first time and she loved it. I think we will still mostly use the sling though. She has stacked on the weight and is over 9 pounds now, we have our last visit with the midwife in two weeks then I wont get to see her anymore, I am going to miss her lol. I should go and get ready for bed.

Hope eveyone is doing well and good to hear some of your little ones are now starting to play nicely.

AFM: Well I'm a bit tired today, Tara has decided that her feed at 4.30-5am is a playtime feed and she wants to stay up after she has had her bottle. Unfortunately I don't feel the same seeing she is still on 3 hourly feeds at the moment. So I'm finding that the only way I can rest after feeding her is to put her in bed with DH & I so that I can sort of doze while she plays and chatters and of course be on hand when the dummy is needed when she does start to get tired. I've found that if I put her in her bed after this feed she cracks it and screams like crazy. I have been feeding her in a darkened room and not talking or stimulating her during her night feeds but she seems happy to be awake and just looking at me. We are going to try with DH doing this feed over the weekend to see if she does the same for him. I'm hoping she will get bored with DH and fall asleep straight after the feed. I've also noticed over the past few days as well that she seems to be wanting mummy cuddles alot, which is fantastic until I have things to do around the house so going to keep trying her in the sling to give me some hands free time. I put her in it yesterday and she wasn't overly impressed, I think it is going to take me a few goes to get the right fit for both me and her and then get her used to being in the sling as well. Hopefully I can get it sorted soon.

KellyD- What a great weight gain by Tara, well done the formula certainly does seem to be working for her. I know what you mean about Tara only wanting mummy cuddles, DD had a few days where she only wanted mummy cuddles too and just kept fussing for everyone else, it was lovely but very full on as we hadnt quite worked out the sling thing and we didnt get to do a lot of moving or eating or going to the toilet! DD only started to like her sling at about 4 weeks and we tend to sit her up in it more than lay her down so she can see but also because she is such a hot little chook and just swelters in there.

MZY- DD was a very sleepy girl for the first 3 weeks and would do nothing but sleep, one night she fed at 6pm and didnt wake until 7am the following morning, we spend 2 hours wiping her head with cool washers, changing her nappy, tickling her feet and stripping her down as the midwives told us to do this to feed her when she wouldnt feed, I even tried attaching her asleep- no thanks mum, just want to sleep. The next morning she woke up soooo happy and bubbly. My boobies on the other hand were another story! Now though she will wake and stay awake for about 2 hours between naps.

Ozstar- Arent those first smiles just the most amazing things! Make me absolutely melt. Although DH seems to get a heck of a lot more of them then I do. I tend to get those explosive breastfeeding pooey nappies instead, not a very fair trade off I dont think! :lol:

Erybery- Good too hear that the Zantac is kicking in, good luck at the paed. hopefully you will get some answers. Please hun, dont beat yourself up about giving Ella medication. I know how you feel, I felt so guilty and horrible for taking zofran through out most of my pregnancy and I have a healthy little cherub. You do what you have to do and what is best for both you and your little miracle. You did the right thing sweetie xxx

Hi Skybie, Nina, Maya, Cam, Stevie W, Cam, Jen, rach2281, Heavenly, V-love and anyone else I have missed. :hug: to you all!

AFM, little miss is a miracle, angel and a little terror all rolled into one! I just look at her little lips and ears and fingers and toes and everything really and just think WOW! She has been an absolute little gem and dare I say..... sleeps at least 7 hours everynight since day 1 (have had her wake twice throught the night since her birth). We have tried to wake her for feeds through the night and she will not have a bar of it so we cut our losses and decided we might as well enjoy it while it lasts. She goes to bed about 9:30pm and wakes for a boobie at 4:30am (when DH gets up for work) and Im a touch engorged, feeds then goes back to sleep till about 8:30am. Only feeding from one side as we have had so much trouble with the other and after 3 weeks of only expressing out of it its still cracked so badly its bleeding. I had blocked ducts and most of my milk dried up in that side or wouldnt come out, I was expressing 4 times a day for 30 mins and getting about 3ml! But the other side is and has always been making enough milk to feed an army, so we will just have to work at getting her back on the left side. But how great are those feeding sighs and little grunts!?! It all must be okay though as she put on 1/2kg in 2 weeks, which we were told was just fine.

Attempted to put DD in her cot in the other room for the first time, not sure why but think it was because we were listening to other peoples opinions too much.... we put her in her snuggle bed, tucked her in and went to our room....it lasted 45 minutes and ended in a flood of tear.... all from me!!!!! DD was oblivious to the carry on and DH and I raced in, scooped her up and promptly put her back in her bassinet where we could hear all those (not so little) gurgles. Needless to say she hasnt been back in there since!

Never did I imagine that after 5 years of unsuccussful IVF attempts would we create such a little amazing and perfect little girl all by ourselves.

Thanks girls for sharing your pregnancies and now your stories and knowledge of your little treasures, I feel very honoured to be a part of your experiences.

Lily Dust - I never understood why people took it so personally and were even kind of affronted by our cosleeping with DS...it's not like we were making THEM do it! I couldn't deal with him in the bassinet in our room without dissolving into tears, so it's bed sharing all the way with DD, too. At least this time we have 'one we prepared earlier' who proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that cosleeping does not create dependant and developmentally compromised children ;)
My little meerkat and I have to go birthday present shopping for DP...while DS is with MiL!
BTW had a great night last night after eventually getting to bed (my own fault) - no lumpy boobs (let alone leaking out of breastpads!) and good 3 hour blocks of sleep...despite a wheezy, sick 3yo sleeping in the same bed (next to DP - he NEVER takes daddy cuddles at night, so it was a breakthrough).

Hey all my lil Serenity is 5 weeks old today so only 18 days left til my due date lol

DM: I generally get into Ballarat once a week, but with Tara currently on the 3 hour feeding plan it doesn't give me much time to get into town, do what I have to do and then get home again for her next feed. Although my parents live in Buninyong so always have the option at the moment to go there when she needs feeding, also means that I get lunch as well.

All of Tara's appt's are either at Linton or Smythesdale as Golden Plains Shire has a clinic in both places. Once we are no longer on weekly appt's they will all be at Linton and once our Mothers Group is set up they will be in Smythesdale.

We lived in Ballarat for a year when we moved up from Melbourne and then spent 6 months in Gordon (commuting to the city for work) before DH landed a job in Ballarat and we have been in Linton since Jan of this year and we just love living in a small country town but having a large regional so close.

Just dropping in to share that..... I got some sleep last night..... Tara had a feed at 10.30pm then again at 2am and this morning at 6am. Her first 4 hour feed ever over night :dance:. And to make it even better, DH did the 10.30pm and 2am feed for me so I got to sleep (although I did wake up but went back to sleep pretty quickly). So now I'm up doing my chores while DH and Tara have a sleep in. :pray: that this is the start of good things to come.

Lilydust-i think with the sleeping u do wats best for u. we had dd1 in the crib next to our bed for 5 months until dp decided he had had enough of me telling him to be quiet when he came into the room in case he woke dd1 up lol. i then moved her out slowly for my sake, moving her away from the bed every night until she was in her room at the other end of the house LOL. dd2 will probably be the same story but this time i wont be telling dp to ssh cause dd1 makes enough noise for dd2 to withstand any noise :lol:

I also found that cuddling them in bed after dp goes to work is a given :D it allows u to sleep if uv had a crap night and its excellent bonding time too. dp is doing that now so i can chat :clap:

dd1 is starting to wake up more now, and im like "wat do i do with u now?" :redface: i cant leave her on the floor as dd1 likes to poke and explore her face, unless i put her inside the playpen (poor baby). but it funny how u forget things are with newborns when ur so used to a toddler.

Better fly as i need a shower and the step kids r waking up and will need feeding.

LD with sleep (and everything else to do with parenting) just do what works for you and your family I say. DD is in a bassinet next to our bed but spends part of the night cosleeping, we usually both fall asleep during a feed lol.

Mzy my DS likes to kiss DD and cuddle her if she cries lol, Im so worried he will try to pick her up if I am not there.

Quiet day here today. BOth kids are in bed so I am off to mop the floors then have some lunch.

Wow its been very quiet in here. I hope that everyone is ok and just busy being mums.

For the last week or so dd has been unsettled of an evening and is awake for hours. She usually wakes at about 4-5pm and can be awake right up until 10pm. She gets so overtired and just wants to feed. Last night she went to sleep about 7pm but woke when I put her down and was so upset untilI got her back to sleep at 10pm. Anyone elses baby doing the same thing? She is great during the day and can be put in bed awake and just go off to sleep on her own.

My ds1 used to get his sister out of the bassinet if she cried he was 26months and she was 5 weeks early and only 2.5kg lucky he is so strong he could actually carry her

well serenity still only wakes once at night but I've noticed at that feed and a few during the day she will get put down for 5 then want more so that goes on for 40min but then she's off again she still sleeps heaps but isn't due for another 13days still lol

Yep- we're similar Oz...for the last week or so, dd usually has one feed a day/night where she is near impossible to settle and ends up becoming hysterical (even while we're cuddling her). That usually exhausts her enough that she falls asleep. When she's like that she doesn't even want to feed, if I try to attach her she has a few sucks then thrashes about and spits me out. My guess was wind because she pulls her knees up. I've just started putting her across my knees, face down with one hand under her tummy and the other hand patting her back and this worked quite well last night.

Gosh, it has been SUPER quiet! Hope everyone is feeling good and your babies are being kind....
