Hi Girls!
Well I'm on my own with DD nw as Dh went back to work yesterday. She had a shocker yesterday as didn;t sleep much at all during the day - she just would not settle and kept waking after 30-40mins and I couldn't get her back to sleep- Im going to research sleep cycles because I heard sometimes they wake and you can go in 5 mins before this and move them through from light to deep sleep.
She is generally sleeping well at night now, normally a 4hr chunk and then 5-6 hours (from start of feed) though it varies night to night.
I am going to my first mother sgroup on friday so will be good to meet up with some other first time mums to see if they have the same probs as me.
Is anyone worried about feeding their babies when on the computer, Ive done it a few times but am paranoid she will get a brain tumour or something????
I woke up with a sore throat, is it likely that Ella will get it too since Im breastfeeding???
gotta go shes screaming again
-
Ery I feed dd lots at the computer and to be honest the thought of tumors etc hadn't even crossed my mind. I think they say a sleep cycle is 40min I am sure I have heard that it is common for bubs to wake after the first sleep cycle, good luck getting her to sleep longer. Your BF should protect Ella from any nasties but just keep an extra eye on her.
V glad to hear I am not alone, though I dont think it is a wind issue here. I am going to work on getting her to sleep as soon I notice the tired signs. Otherwise I will just have to roll with it until she decides to change lol.

It HAS been quiet! I"ve not really been online much at all (or offline and on the computer - just haven't been near my computer!) in the last few days, at least.
No, I tell a lie - I was on the other day to post in one of the threads about elimination communication because I was chuffed with the efforts we've made lately! But apart from that, I've been reading (had a 2 week loan on a new library book - The White Queen by Philippa Gregory - great, easy read...but also borrow a quick guide to English kings and queens to keep up to speed; I recommend the Collins Gem Kings and Queens!), getting out and about (not really for fun, just getting things done) and trying to kick this cough/sore throat.
Ery - Ella probably won't get your sore throat, though she might - if she does it won't be too severe because you've been filling her with your antibodies :)
Tallarah is just a doll and we're all in love still! My midwife came today to see us and she's so happy with how we're going. T has put on stacks of weight (a kilo and a bit - she's well over 4kg now) and 6 cm's in length since birth and she's just being wonderful. I just wish I didn't have this lurgy!
While DS is at creche today I'm gonna have another drink (keeping fluids up now that DP isn't home to remind me) and put on a DVD, during which I'll probably fall asleep...laundry folding can wait, I feel like I've been hit by a train from this lurgy.
Hope everyone's sleep issues resolve soon enough - I know that with DS, he would sleep for less than 40min blocks in the bassinette until I got the HAB and then he'd sleep for hours.

Oz: Tara has been having wakeful periods at night as well. She generally has a good block of sleep from about 10pm to about 2.30am, then has her feed and won't go back to sleep afterwards unless I hold her and rock her to sleep or put her in bed with me. Although she is still generelly awake for about 1 1/2 - 2 hours from the start of her feed. I'm trying to feed her up during the day to hopefully get longer sleep periods during the night but looking at the ages of our babies, maybe it is something to do with there growth etc at the moment.
Oh, Tara got weighed today and has put on 280grams in 7 days, that is a weight gain of 600grams in 2 1/2 weeks, so she now weighs 3.8kgs. It seems being a FF baby is agreeing with her, weight wise anyways...
-
hiya ladies, been busy today with mums grp which went well, not as stressful as i thought it would be as the other two mum's helped out, although my back is killing me with picking up he kids and lugging garden furniture around LOL
dd2 is having the exact same problem Oz, she wakes up round 4pm wants to feed non stop but wont settle again. she also has the problem of projectile vomiting as well, which has been fun!! that normally happens later though round 6-7pm. but from 4pm she DOES not wont to go to sleep by herself. As soon as i put her down she is up within 5 minutes guaranteed. Although i did let her whinge abit today cause i had my hands full and she did fall sleep in the rocker staring up at the window (so that was a bonus).
dp is out atm looking at a car, but luckily he took dd1 cause im about to pull out my hair cause the house still needs a tidy from today and i need to clean the couch cushions AGAIN
I think with dd1 we pushed her in the pusher round the house until she fell asleep, but then when it came to 6 months i think we did the controlled crying, which im so thankful now as she sleeps like an angel (unless she is teething)
well dd2 is awake  ;) so id better go b4 the whole street hears her cry, as the windows r open cause its been another scorcher today.
sry for long post, and hope every1 has a good night, oh and May, grats on the weight gain

Maya- When you have bub in bed (she sleeps there all night, is that right?), how do you have her in there? I mean does she just lay on the mattress with covers on her or do you have your am under her or something? We have a few issues when it comes to blankets and was just curious how to avoid that. I hope your DS is getting better from being unwell and that you get better soon, it must make just everyday tasks harder feeling under the weather and trying to tend to a newborn. Great weight gains Tallarah!
MZY- I like your idea about moving the bassinet out of the room, little by little and I think that will be what we will do down the track....much further down the track ;-)
Oz- We are the opposite here, little miss finds it hard to settle during the day but goes off to sleep by herself at night. She sleeps in a different area of the house at night, dont know if this makes her realise its night time or not????
Heavenly- Its so strange to think your precious Serenity is still supposed to be a baby bump!
Ery- Funny you should say about the brain tumour thing, I dont use the computer with DD but I do use a mobile to text and I am paranoid about it, even when she was in my tummy I hated it if I put the phone near her!
Im sure you know this part but I just read that humans sleep in 40 minute cycles and we wake after that period, ensure all is right and good and if it is we go back to sleep without even being aware that we had woken. I know nothing about the other part however but it sounds very interesting!
V-love- Dont ya just love it when your dear little cherished bub spits out your boob....real confidence booster hey!!! DD doesnt just spit mine out she pulls faces about it too, makes me feel real glamorous :-)
Kelly D- Sounds to me like your wonderful little Tara is growing like a mushroom- great work!
We are off to the clinic next week so cant wait to see how much DD has grown- very exciting! Not that we need the figures the big fat chubby cheeks tell us the same story! She had immunisation yesterday which thankfully her daddy was able to attend, she was very good, a few tears but lots of snuggles fixed that pretty quick!
Take care all x

Serenity weighed 2.36kg today YAY up 335 in 12 days which is good as she is so small so only gains small amounts very excited and happy booked in for family photos on the 28 not sure how to get 4 children and 2 adults all looking good at once so hoping we manage

Morning all!
Wow it has being awhile since I have posted but have being reading when I have a chance.
Well poor DH has had to go back to work today and I am having my first day of Luke to myself. Scared out of my mind that he will scream the house down but we have had first day time feed and he has gone to sleep like an angel. He also did a 6 hour stint last night (from feed to wake) which means I am not as exhausted as usual so fingers crossed we have a good day.
Get you girls on the spitting out of the nipple. I also get given a face from him like I have just put the most disgusting thing in his mouth!
Have mothers group tomorrow and I am praying we are back above birth weight. It's only 167 grams he needs to put on but so far the biggest weight gain he has done is 130 grams so my confidence isn't high... he will be 4 weeks old on Thursday so they are really keen to see him back up there.
Hope your bubs are settling better at night and everyone is well. May be back online more now that DH isn't here to hog the computer!

Hi everyone!
Have had a rough couple of days as the paediatrician upset me quite a lot on friday. He has given me a cortisone ointment for DD's face as the milk rash turned to eczma, have got a referral for another ultrasound in 4 weeks to check her hips again at the children's hospital as she has grade 2 hip dysplasia and also told me to stop breastfeeding and put her on a special hypoallergenic formula called neocate LCP for a week as he thinks she has a milk protein allergy (not lactose intolernt as he thought before!). Anyways, I only did it for 24 hours as was a complete mess trying to express and feed her the bottle and settle her all at the same time. It just felt soooo wrong to me and I was extremely worried about breast refusal and milk drying up. I had good reason too. After having a complete breakdown and calling my sister to come over I put her back on the boob and surprise surprose she has been a nightmare to get back on, not attaching and crying etc as well I can tell there is not a lot of milk there even with me expressing. Anyway I have decided that I know my daughter best and for now, breastfeeding is what is best for her. I am putting myself on a complete dairy and soy free diet and when I see the paed next will just tell him, I couldn't do it. He was wrong about the lactose intolerance so why not about the milk protein stuff. I just wish doctors would listen to mothers, I told him I didnt feel good about it and he just ignored my fears. Only at the last feed did she feed much better, though to build my supply up Im back to 2-3 hourly feeds and the same through the night.
sorry just had to have a rant!
-
Gosh, that's a lot to deal with, erin!!!
Sounds to me like you're doing the right thing, though- good for you for knowing what felt 'wrong' and trusting yourself
Hi to everyone else ;)
-
oh erybery! u arent having a fun time of it hey?!
Good on u for sticking to your instincts, doctors have no idea how strong mummy instincts are. fingers crossed everything sorts itself out for u hun!
Hi to everyone else, havent had a chance to catch up on everything properly, will soon.
As for us, we're going well, Izzy seems to be settling a bit more at night have had two inghts of 6 and 5 hour stretches which is nice.
MCHN said she isnt smiling yet because her corrective age is only 5 weeks, so hopefully in the next few weeks the smiles start.
Still breastfeeding really well, no issues there.
DD1 is still going really well with TT, still in a nappy over night, but we'll get her there.
GTG hunting down a golden retriever. DF promised we could get one when we moved into our own house. we had to give my baby up because she absolutely destroying the rental we were in!
Hope ur all well
xxxx
-
Oh my darling Ery - what a knob to just dismiss breastfeeding as unimportant because he *thinks* it's a milk protein allergy! Paeds really need to have a huge component of their training be on lactation because they undermine so many breastfeeding relationships merely by having no clue. It's not like she's on solids and it's just a matter of switching foods around to test his theories - I'm so sorry you've had the weekend you've had :( Please call the ABA 1800 mum-2-mum line and have a chat with them when you're having a hard time - 24 hrs and they hear the broad spectrum of BFing issues.
Just dropping in now cos DP came home early and I had a chance to eat my lunch in front of the laptop before other duties call me away again!
Tallarah has been running a slightly higher temp today, which accounts for lots. She's still quite peaceful for a sick girl - DS can't manage quietness when he's sick! She sounds positively awful in her breathing. Those suction thingies can only suck out so much snot :(
Anyhow, second week back at work for DP and given we've all had the lurgy, I'm still sane (my own opinion :p) and have been painting a fairy for my niece's birthday present (birthday tomorrow, she lives in NZ...another belated pressie!!).
Better get something to drink while I have a moment...
-
 erybery. You rant till your hearts content hun! Besides your not ranting your telling people who care. Great work trusting in yourself, shes you little girl and you know her better than anyone in the entire universe! I hope everything settles soon.
Cam- good luck with the weight gain today :crossfingers:
Heavenly- well done Serenity! Good luck with the photos. I was worried about just getting DD ready for ours- we wont even in them!
Hi V-love, Skybie, Maya and everyone who hasnt been on in a while.
-
hi all! looks like everyone is busy being mums...it sure is hard to find time to type!
Erybery - great work on trusting yourself!
Lily Dust - we put on 180g which is just above birth weight - so proud of him!
Maya - hope your feeling better.
Skybie - did you get a dog?
Hi to everyone else!
Luke is 4 weeks old today. Cant believe how quick time goes. I am thinking of trying some cloth nappies. Anyone know some good brands?
-
Hi girls,
Erybery-good on u and hopefully everything works out well with the no dairy so that u can rub it in his face, smart arse of a guy lol.
Maya-yep DD1 has got the lurgy too but to top it off she it also teething her molars and fangs on all sides, so yesterday was absolutley hell :wall: :o You sound so relaxed in ur pose i dont know how u do it lol
Skybie- golden retrievers r so gorgeous, so hopefully u find one soon!
dd2 is still having troubles keeping her milk down, projectile vomit is a glorious thing :o the maternal nurse said to try and nap in the afternoon as it might increase my supply or something, i laughed at that cause dd1 only has 1 nap and thats normally late morning. So i think we might have to take dd1 off the boob and space out the feed and see how that works. We have a bit of an attachment problem too so i think she is taking in more air than usual, which probably doesnt help. so i might ring the m2m hotline and see wat can be done.
How are you guys putting the babies to sleep during the day? Any helpful tips would be greatly appreciated as yesterday was a day where dd2 slept for maybe an hr the whole day and didnt want to be put down.
Hi to every1 else, and i hope all the bubs r sleeping, eating and pooing well

Cam- we've had Liv in Bumgenius for just over a week now and I LOVE them...absolutely recommend them.
I shopped around and got overwhelmed with choice!! In the end, we went to the Babies and Kids expo and spoke to the rep and chose BGs because they are a one-size system and that just seemed to be the easiest for us (and DH was sold at 'Expo Special' price )
I'll prob end up getting a few diff brands too now, just to compare...Good Luck researching...
-
no puppy yet, the ones im looking at arent available till decmber. i love goldies, excellent big dog to have with little kids. Charlotte would do all thing unimaginable to hollie and she never flinched.
Cam, wat kind of nappies were u looking at? iv got stacks but cant tell u wat works and what doesnt for us yet because Izzy doesnt fit into them yet! we went mostly with one size fits most
-
Mzy - getting there! T is breathing better now (thank you, heat!!) and not as velcro-y and my throat is no longer lumpy :) Thanks for asking! With T, I wear her in a shoulder sling (easier to get in and out without waking) to sleep, then put her down onto her lambskin. She's a much sleepier baby than DS was. She's been asleep now for over an hour. DD also seems to be a bit of an air sucker. Today and last night I'm having some nipple pain but I don't tend to think it's DD, I think it's DS who's feeding habits are creating a new sensitivity - he's been resting his top teeth on my areola at the base of the nipple and even though I pull him off as soon as he starts doing it it's been getting worse on my nipple. He really needs to concentrate on how he's attaching (and he can do it, he just needs to focus) or I'll have to wean him :( Anyhow, DD has started to get a bit chucky, and I'm hoping like hell that it's because of all the snot in her belly and that it's temporary!
Cam - I've used Peapods (which I found great when DS was bigger, I've only ever used the Mediums on him, and I have one Small for DD that is a bit big around the leg and leaks when she sleeps on her side), which can take a while to dry with the bamboo inserts. Nothing an overnight stint in front of the wood heater in winter can't fix. I had one Bumgenius with DS and didn't like it with him after a while because the lining didn't wick moisture from his skin as well as the fleece of the Peapods, so he'd get a red welt around his waist and I stopped using it overnight (which was why I got it in the first place, when he was down to one night nappy). However, now that DD is being whipped out of wet nappies as soon as she's done a wee (part of the EC caper I'm doing with her, and I'm using flannel flats) I'm finding Bumgenius good when I DO use them - which is really only when we're out, because the flannel flat fold is not recommended for car travel. BUT...BUT...I have found a lovely new nappy that is very much like Bumgenius, except it's an Australian company (recently had to move production to China to keep costs down, but is all ethically produced), it's about $3 cheaper per nappy, has bamboo instead of microfibre (I find bamboo better for lingering smells...as in, less of them!) AND...AND...comes in fantastic colour patterns!! It's called MiniLaLa and has a website you can google. My local nappy supplier has them in stock but not many retailers have them - they are predominantly online. It's a one size affair, so there's no messing around buying more when the child gets bigger (Peapod is about $20, MiniLaLa is $35). I will get a few more because even though I'm EC'ing as much as I can, later on the cover can be used without the insert as a panty that can be whipped off quickly :) And, as I said, I use them for car travel and I do heaps of that (unfortunately, for my carbon footprint!).
Right, nearly finished paperwork - sent off birth reg this week, have nearly finished the form for family assistance and medicare (the one for Baby Bonus), and nearly done with the Health Care Card one (that I've been eligible for for most of the year and have a major aversion to filling out forms!!). So, Tallarah will be official soon.
Also, been busy cos we're making moves here - house will be on the market in a few weeks and I have to source boxes to pack the visual peripherals and wash the walls of DS's 'artwork'...
Gonna rest now, while DS is watching the Muppets movie and DD is asleep...in the Spanish dub (don't think he's even noticed that I selected Sp at the start of the DVD!).
Hope the Vic girls are keeping cool, and great to read from everyone else!
-
hey everyone just quickly popping in to say hi.
Cam I have quite a few cloth nappies so will pop back in later and tell you what I like.
All is great here. Just had my last midwife visit which is sort of sad. DD is going great and slept ofr 8 hours last night, I am not getting to excited though as no doubt is was a one off lol.
-
Hey ladies! Miss seeing your avatars ;) So thought Id just pop in and say hi! Hope everyone is well and got the hang of juggling everything and a new baby:D
Take care and maybe if some would like they can add me to fb as we're no long belly buddies :(
-

-
Mzy: oh, the not sleeping during the day. You might be about to go through what I have just been through for the past 6 days... Tara seems to have gone through a major milestone change, a girl from my other forum told me about "Wonder Weeks" the first one occurs between 4-5 weeks. There is a book all about the wonder weeks and explains all the mental and physical changes our little ones go through at milestone ages.
Tara was completely unsettled during this time, not wanting to sleep, only wanting to be held which is when she slept. But when put down in her cot she would wake up immediately and scream. She also wanted almost constant feeding. So all up this time didn't allow me much time or sleep for that matter as she then became overtired due to her not sleeping during the day. She seems to be coming out the other side, which is fantastic and we even managed to get 8 hours sleep last night (broken by a feed), something I haven't experienced for so long. She is also now happy to sleep in her cot, sometimes she will put herself to sleep and other times still wants a cuddle, but to be able to put her down and have her sleep for a good block of time is all I can ask for.
Fingers crossed, you have a baby that is good for you but if it gets a bit too much by all means pm me and I can tell you if Tara suffered the same problems you may be experiencing.
-
Howdy all, been very quiet in here. I hope your all doing well.
All good here. The past few nights DD has been hard to settle, not sure if it is just the heat. Still sleeping good at night though so cant complain. Must be off I am buggered. Hope to catch up with you all properly soon.
-
Is everyone ok? I hope your all just super busy enjoying your bubs.
All is well here, I think dd is having a growth spurt she is feeding every couple of hours and taking both sides (it has been hot here too). Still a little fussy in the afternoons but great overnight usually only waking once. She is such a happy smiley baby and I think we might have a chatterbox on our hands lol.
-
Great here was my due date yesterday lol been waking up with puffy red eyes which sucks but got her needles this week and us for her head and hips and her full term check this week
-
Welcome to the world for the 2nd time Serenity! Hope she went ok with her needles, broke my heart, Mime let out such a wail but was over it and ready for a snuggle within a couple of minutes! Good luck with the gym and well done!
Hey Oz, great news about getting sleep, being refreshed makes it that bit more easy. The heat effected us here too, very hard to settle to sleep but when DD had finally drifted off she was right.
KellyD- Im going to look into those wonder week books, I was told at hospy that growth spurts at 3 and 6 weeks but that was pretty much the extent of the knowledge they shared. I remember DD just wanted to be held a lot too, I guess it was one of those wonder weeks! Its good to know there may actually be a reason for it and that they dont just feel crappy or something.
Maya- I was very proud last week DD became official! It was a real goosebumpy moment when I saw that birth certificate and her name printed on medicare card! Sounds ridiculous to be so excited about something so little but hey......it was just great!
Hi cam, mzy, Dedicated_Mummy, V-Love, Skybie, erybery hope everything is good.
Oh and Cam great news about Lukes weight!!!!
-
hey girls, long time no chat!
been so busy with dd, she doesnt like to sleep much and is getting to be a fussy eater, have also had problems with reflux and apparently the hours of night screaming is just colic, dr went right over her and said it is inexplicable therefore is probably colic, nice general answer hey, but we will get there, just give lots of cuddles and go through the list and back to the start of the list and do it all again...
LD it is so wonderous when the certificate turns up hey, u see it and it has ur name as mother and your just like oh wow! glad to hear dd has been a good girl for you.
maya havent got them forms filled out either, im so slack!
heavenly wow serenity was so early! must have felt funny on her actual due date.
oz glad to hear, u must have one of the best bubbas so glad shes a good girl!
it has been quiet in here, hope everyones well and there bubbas are happy smiley ones!
gettikng lots of smiles and loving it, just wish little miss would go to sleep and not just do 3am to 6am every day!
hi to everyone ive missed, will try to get on here more, i miss my buddies
-
Hi everyone!
Ella had her needles too the other week, it was awful seeing her face urn red with horror but as soon as she was put on my chest she calmed down!
Hating this heat atm as it i so hard to keep Ella cool, Ive been wrapping her for bed in just her nappy, not even a singlet! Thank goodness for air-con, though am dreading the next electricity bill!
Took Ella to see the Musical "Mamma Mia" yesterday in the city. I was amazed that she slept through most of it, everyone kept commenting on what a calm, quiet baby she was - just wishe they would see her at home.
Ella has settled down a lot now, so not as much screaming or taking as long to settle, though still not a very good sleeper.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to stretch out her feeds at night and get her to sleep more at night. Shes 8 weeks old now and I was kinda hoping we would have her sleeping 5-6 hours by now but at the moment its only 3-4!
-
Bloody Nora, Erybery - who's been giving you porky pies about when babies 'should' be sleeping through??? SOME do, and most don't! Take the pressure off her and yourself and please realise that a baby that wakes for feeds overnight is looking after its own metabolism (as adults our metabolism varies between individuals, too). My DS has a fast metabolism and was waking for feeds during the night even till last year. DD must have a slower one because she doesn't require feeding every 2 hours (though when she's got a cold she'll wake often, but when baby's sick in a house, ain't no-one getting any sleep!!). She's a different kettle of fish again. Human mammals metabolise their breastmilk quicker for survival reasons. There is no real way to 'stretch out' feeds to get a baby to sleep for longer that doesn't involve hijacking their internal intelligence about what nutrition they need, and undermining their own messages of hunger. This time really is such a blip on the timescale of their lives with us, so probably talk to the ABA about riding it out. Other mums have been known to lie about what their babies are doing - mainly because they get set up to believe that 'success' is a baby that sleeps through. Also, with separated sleeping, lots of mummies think they have a sleeping through baby but they don't realise the baby IS waking and going back to sleep- just that other babies won't settle back to sleep and that's when you know your baby is a waker!
We seem to be emerging from a bad patch here. Clear nose three nights in a row, back to dryness between feeds (and using the chamberpot for EC'ing) at night and I think my baby is back, so we can continue to get to know what's normal for both of us. One thing at a time, though - I have cracked nipples from her snuffliness and I'm riding out a painful breastfeeding wave this week. I bought a nipple shield for when it's really bad, and my MCHN (who's also a LC) came round and helped us a bit. I'll talk to her later this week to give her an update and on Monday I have another appointment with her. DP thinks I'm needlessly holding a grudge against the 'source' of our lurgy...too bloody right I am! And I've told him that until I'm not living with their ignorance and inconsiderateness anymore (i.e. excrutiating latch, nipple vasospasm, dreading feeds etc), he can put up with my grudge and suck it up. Poor DS was in tears last night when I shrieked in pain when he hopped on (even with his very gentle attachment it hurts :( ) because he was upset at the thought of hurting me. I needed him, though - the damage and pain has meant we're not feeding properly and my boobs aren't draining well. Bah...I'm visiting a bad dream again. I think it's also a matter of her learning to latch properly again, because for half her life she's had a cold and it's affected her attachment.
Better go make the most of sleeping children-folk and find something to do...like have a kip!
-
erybery i think what maya is saying is right, theres no normal or right or wrong or any of that, we just have to live with them and the evils of sleep deprivation mostly, but i can recommend some things i have tried for the reflux that have made a huge difference to not only my sanity but dd's happiness, (am i right in remembering ella has reflux hence the zantac or am i just using my mushie brain wrong...lol) i am giving dd some liquid mylanta for her reflux and its instant stop screaming, i was told up to 1ml 3 times a day is fine by the nurse. she is very colicy and i have started winding her every 3mins on the boob, or every 30ml from the bottle, OMG what a difference that has made, the colic seems to have disappeared in only 2 days! (fingers crossed) so the screaming has stopped that was all night every night till 3am... i am also giving her thickened breast milk in a bottle for her last feed before sleep, helps with the reflux too, plus i know exactly how much shes had rather than guessing. she seems to sleep longer cos of this, but it could just be a coincedence too...
maya sorry to hear about the bf probs, i had blocked duct and mastitis last week so i can empathise with the pain, i just wanted to throw dd on the floor everytime i put her on, it is so terrible, cant believe something so natural can cause so much damn pain, bloody bf probs. i hope ur all back to normal soon, repaired and healed well. im sure ur dd will get back to good attachment in time, someone like u with so much experience and will power will have her back on there in no time in sure. plus the support uve gotten will help, and im sure u will seek further support using ur aba group if u need it. the beauty of these groups is they are there for you when u need it as well as when u dont.
i have started save our sleep, as a routine for dd and it has worked wonders for the 2 days ive been doing it, i have had 2 nice sleeps, plus day sleeps to get the housework done, im not couting my chickens yet, but a couple of nice days has been great. i know a lot of ppl dont like routines and stuff, but i had to give something a go, 3hrs sleep a day and snack feeding by dd was killing me, not to mention the cranky screaming baby i had on my hands, she was just so unhappy. will let u all know how it goes in a week or so.
hope everyones well and bubs r doing great, and getting a bit more sleep for their mummys
-
Jen you can only do whats right for you. Sounds like things are looking up in your household though which is great.
Maya sounds like your doing it tough at the moment, you will get through it though. Good to hear that T's nose is clearing up.
Erybery nice work taking Ella to her first musical lol. Unfortunately I dont think there is anyway to stretch out her sleep they just eat when they are hungry and sleep when they are tired. It will get better eventually though.
LD the wonder weeks is a great book, there is a website that explains some of them. Just google wonder weeks, the website is living control something or other lol.
Heavenly how did the us and check up go?
A big hello to everyone else, I hope that your all well. I cant believe how fast time is flying. DD looks more like a baby now then she does a newborn and is growing so quickly. I cant believe how quickly Christmas has come around is everyone ready???
-
Lily Dust: I got my Wonder Weeks book last week and after reading about the 5 week change it made so much sense what I had been going through with Tara. The 8 week one is suppose to be even bigger, so am bracing for this one to happen in the next week. But I must admit having something explain why things are happening is such a help.

KellyD you have just given me goosebumps! Its like you read my mind.....We have been going round the twist since Thursday with DD, being unsettled through day, bit of a grizzle guts and twice now a massive tantrum till she was red in the face and hysterical, I just couldnt do anything to make her settle, not even a booby worked!!And guess what....she is 8 weeks old! As you say it certainly makes you feel so much better about it! I have survived that 8 week mark and I bet you do too!
erybery- those needles are horrors hey?!? Its horrible to see them squeal like that, but at least its quick and over before you know it. Did Ella have the oral gastro vaccine too?
Im not sure about the sleeping. Mime has slept 7- 8 hours since she came home and now has decided to take it back to 5-6 hours (sorry Im not being a smart but just saying how she has changed). I guess they will do as they please when they please and dont care what anyone says. She will get there in the end, but in the mean time you're doing really well! I take my hat off to you.
Jen- Good to hear from you! Im with you on routine, I have so much trouble functioning going from minute to minute without one. You do whats good for you and it sounds like that is it. Look forward to hearing how its going again soon.
Maya-. BF issues are horrid. We have just got DD feeding back on left side after 5 weeks of expressing because Im sure my nipple was going to fall off it had that big of a gash in it! Hang in there. That attachment is horrid when its toe curling!
Oz- I thought the same thing this morning looking at DD laying on her daddy in bed, she looks so much more grown up in the face, a real little girl. They do grow and change so fast. Thanks for the website/ google idea, will check it out, its always nice to know there are other reasons why the house is being screamed down and it isnt something you are doing wrong :D
Heavenly- hope the checkup was all great and little Serenity is growing like a mushroom.
:hello: V-love & dedicated_mummy

hi girls!
so glad to see everyones tickers plodding along beautifully!
8 week mark sucked for us too, but we survived, not looking forward to the 12 week marker, which scarily is only next week for us!!
We're doing well Iz is still breastfeeding like a champion and stacking on the weight. sleeping hasnt been all that good but she gave me 10-5 last night which was pretty impressive! i woke up at 4 and pooed my pants a lil and ran to check on her though!
she's slowly starting to smile, not all that often but she's getting there and every couple of days she has a good old talk to herself, but thats not constant yet either. hopeing it becomes regular very soon!
anyway its late i better get to bed.
Hope ur all well

T now has a wet cough :( Doctor today. I hate this. It was months and months (actually, I think it was well after the 12 month mark) before DS had to visit the doctor, so this is sucking arse quite a bit.
Thanks for your words about the BFing issues, it's really helped! I had a good few days where things were going grand and now she's mashing a bit again. Just gotta clear the mucous from airways and we'll be good again. She's stacking on weight, so it's not an issue that way, it's just poor me who's copping the abuse! Oh, and she's unhappy in the evenings when it gets worse. She'll sleep fine, but she's just not happy after a coughing episode and there isn't much I can do after topping up the humidifier.
She was weighed again last week by the MCHN and she had grown 6 cms since birth - no wonder the 0000 are no good to us anymore! I think she might even end up being as tall as DS.
EC'ing is going great, no wonder other cultures haven't bothered with nappies - nappies are not liberating at all! Still loving my Mini La La's for outings, and using flannel flats at home (which are mostly being tied back on dry after 'peeing' T on the chamber pot. Really, I'm not rushing off to work every day or some such thing, so this is a good way for me to connect with her and she's ever so grateful - she gets so narky if I miss a cue and she wees in her flannel nappy! Oh, and it's really lovely not to have to wipe poo smeared all over a bum as well as deal with pooey nappies all the time - catching 98% of them (don't ask me how I came to that statistic!!) in the pot and putting them down the drain where they belong.
Better finish my coffee now and get on with clearing this house for Open on Saturday. Will have more time to contribute meaningfully after the weekend when all the crap has been stashed in the shed!
Hope everyone is travelling well

Hi Ladies
Sorry it has being so long since saying hello. I seem to be super busy in the small amount of free time between feeds! I can't believe how loong it takes to get out of the house these days.
Maya - glad things are getting better with T's cold and the BF. I remember the pain when I had my gashed nipple.
Skybie - 12 weeks - congratulations! Hope it's not too painful for you both.
Lily Dust - so jealous of your sleep
Kelly D - you are making me scared about 8 weeks - better look that one up!
Ozstar - no where near ready for Christmas here and the shops are already crazy.
Jen - definitely let us know how sos goes. If it works for you both I don't see a problem with it! 2 good days must feel fantastic.
Erybery - sorry can't help with the sleep thing. Perhaps Jen's book is the answer.
AFM & Lukey - where do we begin! After not being on for so long there is so much I could type. As a whole he is a good baby we have unsettled periods (why does the word unsettled sound so much less than what it is - i.e screaming the house down) and he still isn't putting on heaps of weight. The last couple of days he hasn't wanted to take more than 1 boob. He just screams when I put his head near the boob then shuts up when I sit him up so I figure he is saying his done. As long as he keeps doing 150g a week I will be happy but the weight is constantly on my mind. We had our 6 weeks shots today and seem to be ok from that and he has recovered from his circumcision last week. He has terrible baby acne at the moment and I am praying it clears up for Christmas. The BF is working now except for his lack of interest in 2 boobs. He gives me beautiful smiles and laughs and is starting to poke his tongue out which makes the lack of sleep worthwhile!

Cam - I wouldn't worry about the one boob thing, DS only ever had one boob per feed, even when my supply settled, and DD is going the same way...even after losing nearly an entire feed when she's thrown it up (a few times this week after coughing and gagging on mucous from her virus :( ) I know it seems part of the vernacular for babies to feed from both boobs per feed, but it's often not the case and is quite normal. How did you come to the decision to circumcise? I can't recall you writing about it, so I'm not sure if you've already gone over this, sorry!
Doctor on Friday said it's the same virus as she had 3 weeks ago. It's a matter of doing what we're already doing - squirting breastmilk in the nose (instead of saline - it's free and squirts readily!), feeding as normal cos she's still stacking on weight (there goes my featherweight - I thought she'd be a petite version of DS, but she's gaining more than he did!) and using the humidifier at night. This sucks so much. My nipples heal then when her congestion gets worse so do my nipples and right now I'm dealing with fresh cracks and the peeling on the areola from the mashing of a few days ago (before it healed over again!). So, just waiting out this virus for when it all comes together and I can feed without fear like I did 4 weeks ago!
We went out for brunch today and had the most gorgeous meals at my favourite cafe (going there again next week for Booby Club Christmas dinner, yay me!) whilst our house was inspected. It came down to the wire and we got the study cleared in the nick of time before having to vacate for the real estate agent's arrival. Then we spent the arvo at MiL's cos one lady wanted to come back with her husband (he'd been working during the inspection) later on. So, we're sitting on two offers and we dont' even know what they are yet cos we've yet to sit down with the REA to discuss it! I'm dying to know what we've been offered and if it's enough. Not that we've found a property to put the money towards...every day I'm on the net looking, and DS has a very basic understanding that we're going to live on a 'farm'. I'm talking to him about it now to transition him to moving from 'his' home (he often says 'my house' when talking about stuff!). Interesting times ahead. Sort of sad to be selling the house so soon after celebrating a perfect homebirth in it. At least it's now and not later when DD is old enough to be sad about selling because she was born here and lived here, I guess.
What a year. What a week. My poor aching boobs! I'd better go to bed - we just watched the Beatrix Potter film with Renee Zellwegger and it was just so beautiful. Makes up for the Carols we passed on tonight...
goodnight xxx

hey all hope everyones well ..ive been sick for the last couple days just an itchy throat and really blocked nose....
Serenity last weigh in was the 28 upto 2.8 kg go back to the local clinic to pop in for another this coming week...ive been abit concerned with hom much she vomits, after almost every feed she seems to puke heaps and it still looks like milk but theres quite abit not sure whats going on with her...shes getting more sooky aswell and shes always sucking on my finger lol although its good cos if she wakes at night i just give her my pinky for afew minutes but she used to just wake once and now its gotten more frequent i spose i have o have one bad sleeper as all my others were great sleepers ...
-
Heavenly, are you sure she just needs comforting and not a feed when you offer her your finger? Sorry if you've been over this, just wondering if she fed more overnight that she might make more weight gain? Especially if it's getting more frequent, she may be telling you something. I have been using my finger with DD, but after she's had a boob and a wee, cos by then I know she's eaten plenty and just needs a comfort suck to get to sleep (and she'd be allowed my boob if she wasn't still blocked up with her horrible clamp!). Dummies and fingers can overlook a real need to feed, sometimes.
Better night for me here, using nipple shields. They're great for reduction of pain and healing of cracks, but she doesn't drain the breast properly and it leaves me fuller than I'm supposed to be. Oh, well, it's only temporary, so I hope mastitis realises it's unwelcome in these parts!
Hope everyone's having a nice Sunday :)
