Leah - I've had Max in his own room since day dot (it's right next to my room so can hear everything..even poo explosions) so don't really know when the best time to move them is, but my opinion is that I would move them earlier rather than later as they become more aware the older they get and it could be more trouble moving them as time goes on. She might think 'what the hell is mum thinking putting me in this room on my own' if she knows too much iykwim.
Here is another question for you all.... How 'to the book' are you? I listen to what the organisations say but I only do something if it works for me. SIDS for example, I personally find that Max sleeps better on his tummy, and he only sleeps on his back at night. I also had a friend tell me I shouldn't spray fly spray in the house, or take a baby to swimming lessons coz they could get athsma, and NOT to eat peanut butter coz it could make them allergic.....hmmmm....I do all those things....does that make me a bad mother? What do you all think? How far do you go?
-
Leah- We have had Caitlyn in her own room since we got back out here when she was 3 or 4 weeks old. I can hear everything that goes on but the room is at the other end of our rather small house and we use a monitor. She seems to go alright by herself. I do bring her into bed with me after her 5 am wake up call though. When we have people staying at our place she will be sleeping in the portacot in our room.
Julia - We are not by the book at all. Caitlyn sleeps on her tummy during the day (helps with her wind), I always spray flyspray in the house cause we seem to get LOTS of bugs here. The whole peanut butter thing....I hate peanut butter so I dont have a drama with that. However, I had a bounty bar the other day and had a tiny (really tiny) bit of choclate on my finger and i stuckit in her mouth.....she didnt like it! Some books that I have read lately have said to not give baby water but we do....although I read one the other day that said I should add sugar to the water.....I wont do that.
In fact I have to say that we didnt even read that many books so have nothing to "go by" we have just tended to use common sense and a little bit of advice from family.
Anyway am off to surf facebook a little! MWAH

Thanks for the lovely day out yesterday Brissie girls!
Becky - i forgot to look at your tattoo - you'll have to make sure you show me next time!
Amelia - I like the buddha idea - very cute!!!!
Lizzy'sMum - Mateo moved from his bassinette at about 11/2 months old - he could still fit in his length wise but is a wriggly little fella and likes to move around. I personally think it is whatever you feel is right for your bub and you. Mateo slept in our bed most of the time for the first month and even now if he is really unsettled I just pop him in with us and he goes out like a light - and I find it makes no difference to how he settles in his own room as he loves his cot and happily sleeps in it. I think he just likes to be close sometimes! :-)
MiniMax - I'm not much to the book at all but I do listen to statistics and advice and then weigh up the choices with what I think is right. Mateo has always been a belly sleeper - never once settled on his back from day one. The fly spray thing I wouldn't do, but the pool thing I definitely would! I think the chances of your baby drowning cause they don't know how to swim are way higher than the chance of getting astahma.
Actually wanted to start swimming lessons with Mateo next week - has anyone else started their bubs? Pish was the pool heated you went to? Cause I've tried putting Mateo in our pool and he cries cause it's too cold!!
-
Leah - I agree with Julia. Chels has been in her own room since 1 week, as was Liam and they were really easy to get used ot it. I think the longer you leave it the harder it is.
Julia - Im not really to the book at all. I think cause this is baby #2, I am waaaaaaaaaaayyyyy more relaxed and just do what is reight for me. Of course I take advice and read books etc, but I basically follow my instincts.
-
Leah we moved Jasmine to her own room when she was about 7 weeks old. Settled in really well. Chelsea on the other hand was in her room from day dot and i wish i had done the same for Jasmine.
As for being by the book....sooooo not me. I do wat i want...its done Chels no harm to can only hope Jas will be the same. However on the sleeping issue...ALWAYS on the back here....ive had 2 friends loose their babies due to SIDS and ther sleeping position was deemed the cause. Its when they beging rolling i worry about that. Food wise im a little hesitant with wat i give. I give water to Jas. She also goes in the pool. Get them used to water from an early age. Both girls watch tv.
Only one thing i stand by is no smokers are allowed in my house (to smoke) if they wanna smoke its a walk up the road right away from my house :)
-
heya girls.
lachlan went into his room on the first night home. has been great since:)
-
L has been sleeping in his room since around 4 weeks. Tho we have an Angelcare monitor we don't use it cause he is right across the hall from us and I hear every little snuffle and moan. Not sure when we will move him into his cot and not wrap him. He still has heaps of room in the bassinet.
Only thing I really follow is the sterilising bottles etc and the SIDS sleep recommendations. Noticed L is starting to sleep more on his side. Can't really help that if he moves to that position in his sleep but don't intentionally place him on side.
Didn't tell you all about my scary incident the other day. Was at home alone with L and the dogs and went to check the mailbox carrying L in my arms. As I went out the front door which I need to have closed but not latched so the dogs don't escape, it latched behind me. We were locked out! The back door was open but to get to it needed to go through a gate which was locked or through the downstairs area, also locked. In the end I had to climb up on a wheelie bin and scale the fence. In the meantime L was lying on a bed of junk mail on the ground. Needless to say we have had spare keys cut and hidden now just in case it happens again. I recall Nickers was locked out when she was really pg. Just glad it didn't happen to me then as I would have had no way of scaling anything.
Was up much of the night with L as we are trying a new routine to get him to sleep thru. He woke me up at 12.45am, 3.45am, and 5.45am. Hope he settles soon as so tired today.
Any ideas for next Brissy meet up?
-
Nerida - I hope L settles down for ya soo, in his new routine. God, what a scary incident!!!! At least it wont happen again!! Im happy for anytime with the meet up. Was thinking, is everyone happy with how we do it (you know just pick a random time that suits everyone) or did ya maybe wanna make it a set date. You know, the first wednesday of every month or something? That way we always know when they are and can try to get there. Whatever though, Just a suggestion, Im easy.
Terri - I'll be sure to show you my tattoo next time! LOL. Your baby-sitting kiddies were so well behaved by the way! Gorgeous!
-
Thanks guys :) I love having her in with us so I think it will probably be later rather than sooner. My experience with Eliza was that when a change was going to happen I made more of it that it actually was. As far as settling at night, when Eliza was old enough it only took about 3 nights for her to get that we were going to come in and settle her but not going to pick her up and then it was all good.
Amara pretty much always self settles now, I hold her and make sure she is calm and happy then put her down and say night night and that si pretty much it - hope it keeps going like that. I am also putting her down in the rumpus room sometimes as it is downstairs and much cooler - unfortunately our room is the hottest :(.
Hmmmm by the book - I seem to be a bit like Kim, pick and choose and follow my instincts a bit. We ALWAYS sleep our babies on their backs, when they start rolling I use one of those sausage things. I also had a friend lose a baby to SIDS due to sleeping on the tummy and I am a bit freaky about it. Also no smoking or animals in the house. I am not a TV fan and turn it off whenever I can. Eliza is allowed to watch it I just don't want it to be the centre of the house YK? I eat peanut butter & peanuts (my midwife said it is fine if we have no allergy history) and have a Coke every now and then. We do use a dummy but it is strictly for sleeptime only never to keep the baby quiet at other times. With Eliza I was also fairly to the MCHN's guide of when to get rid of teats (bottles) which is 12 months. It wasn't really because the MCHN said to do it - I was concerned more about ear problems as I had chronic ear infections when a child. As soon as we could I got Eliza onto a cup/straw and tried not to associate the last milk drink with bed. In other words I never feed my kids to sleep. I prefer to use wrapping, dummy, singing etc as their sleep cues rather than a feed.
Night All,
-
Saffi- LOL yep that was me that locked myself out heavily pg and with Nixon inside the house! we have a key hidden now also. Glad you got in ok!
Tyron has been in his own room from day one, as was Nixon. In regards to the bassinett DH is out right now buying a bed for Nixon. we will set it up in his room and i will start trying to put him in it for day sleeps. when he gets the hang of that we will try night sleeps and once he has transitioned Ty will move into the cot. however i like that i can just wheel the basinett on a hot day like today for his sleep. But he is starting to hang his arm out the basinett etc also so another month or so he will be ready i'd say.
By the books- well i guess to an extent we all are with out own added ways! eg: i would not turn a car seat around before he had good head support and had reached the 8kg mark. I do sterillise but reading some things on aba forum about EBM rules i think my god i dont do half of that but he's fine with it. Smoking definatley no where near or around my children.
Happy 3months yesterday to Amara and Max! Ty will be 3 months tomorrow. My mum minded him for a few hrs yesterday and when i came back she said she had him laughing..... huh? he hasnt laughed for me yet! I was a bit upset he did it for them first so when i got home i made him laugh hehe!!
Ty sometimes still gets his arm stuck rolling from back to belly, he's only been doing it for 3-4days.
Booked the christenning for 10th Feb, combined with my (will be) 8month old nephew.
-
Leah - I am in the same position as you... Tahlia is currently in our room in a bassinette, but she doesn't have too much room left in the length of it when she stretches... I don't want to move her to her own room yet, cause its at the other end of the house and I'm scared! We put her in her cot in her own room for her day sleeps so hopefully it won't be too much of a shock for her
Julia - I think I am fairly by the book, Tahlia always sleeps on her back, I don't spray fly spray when she is around, but I do eat nuts and chocolate! I think most of the time we just need to go with our intuition, cause mother knows best!
Question for all the mums whose bubs are rolling - how do you encourage them to do that? Tahlia doesn't even really try, but just in the past couple of days if you lay on the couch with your knees bent and lean her on them, she lifts herself up - its pretty cute... if she does it too fast, she flops forwards!
-
Interesting answers everyone... I do some things by the book, but mainly leave it up to instinct. I think I'm doing OK so far!
Rolling....Max isn't yet (he's probably got too big a belly to get over!) I've encouraged him by rolling him from his back to tum for his tummy time. I'm sure he'll do it in his own time...pretty happy with the fact that he's still immobile iykwim?
-
Hey all!
Kieran has been in his cot in his own room since pretty much day one. I tried him in a cradle at first, but then thought I may as well just put him in his cot straight away so I don't have to transition him later. We have had no probs, but he is starting to move around in there and I find him lying across-ways sometimes!
K isn't interested in rolling yet, but it is really early to be rolling anyway. Joel started rolling at 4 months and was the first in our mum's group of 8 babies to do it. I much prefer a baby who just stays in one spot! Once they start to move, that's it, they never go back!!
He's been sleeping really well still, two nights ago he slept for 9 straight hours, I was so happy! He did 8 last night, but who's to complain? He went straight back down after his 5am feed so I got a few hours of sleep in there. I still feel tired today though!
Hope everyone is having a good weekend!
-
Well Caitlyn doesnt even look like she will roll anytime soon! She HATES tummy time. I can't even get her to lay on her tummy for more than a minute before she starts screaming!! I've tried before and feed and after a feed and nothing seems to make her want to be on her tummy. Just kinda leave it now - not worth getting stressed about it. Actually the only time she spends on her tummy is when she is sleeping on daddy's chest!
Caitlyn is now in some sort of a routine although some nights she throws it out the window. We tend to bath her at 530 feed her at 630 and try to have her in bed by 730. Sometimes, like last night, she goes down for a little while and then wakes up. So we gave her a top up feed at 8 and she slept until 130 this morning. Normally she sleeps until 2 and then up again at 5. Last night it took over an hour before I could get her to settle after the 130 feed. Then she was up at 5! Luckily DH was home and thats his duty on a Sunday morning!
She is really starting to get more and mroe talkative! And her cry has changed in tone.....its hard to explain - doesnt seem to be the same sound anymore!
Anyway -off for some lunch and cuddles with DH - after this morning he deserves it! I got to sleep in until 9!!
-
Nickers - We are in the same position! We bought Liam a bed the other day, and are gona try and put it all together tonight. Im DREADING it!!! I think we are gonna try the clean sweep, and just get his cot out tonight, and put him in his bed. He actually sleeps better at night than he does for his daytime sleeps so I think thats the best way for us. Im so not looking forward to it. LOL. I can see a few tricky nights coming up! Let me know how you go with Nixon too! Its funny that our babies are so similar in age!
Kellie - Chelsea isnt rolling yet either! I think all babies do things at differnet times. Liam was almost 5 months before he started rolling to, the nurse said that was good. So give it time, I dont think its urgent! LOL
-
Jas is no where near rolling....hates tummy time, refuses to lift her head even. Chelsea never rolled til 4 months so im not worried....each child is different and will do things when their time is right!
We are thinking of gettin a bed for Chelsea now...Jas is growing alot faster then we thought she would be...and also had the extra 4cm in length disadvantage on Chels....so big bed will be on its way soon so Jas can have the cot!
-
I didn't do anything to encourage Maddi to roll, she just got sick of tummy time & started rolling.
It was a lot easier when she wasn't rolling.
I don't really go by the book, i follow my instinct.
-
Hi ladies,
Thought I'd just pop in and say hi! I hope you are all well :) Sorry I couldn't make it to your meetup on Friday, I ended up in hospital with an infection. For those of you who have been messaging me asking and me being too slack to reply - We are really well! Rochelle is a few 100 grams off 7kgs and sometimes chuckles for almost a minute. She now sleeps through from 7 to 7 but sometimes wakes for a feed around 5am. I think she is going through a growth spurt at the moment because she is demanding more milk, so i've had to quit expressing through the day at the moment just so she can have the extra. We discovered Rochelle is ticklish the other day, our Dr was tickling her tummy and she started laughing!
Well I hope everything is going beautifully with your bubs... I think of you all from time to time and hope your all loving motherhood as much as I am.
Happy New Year,
-
Ty just decided a couple of days ago that he would roll from his back to his tummy. it started off more rolling to the side but his arm was in the way, so with a few helps from me to move his arm he mastered it. But like some others said its better when they dont move cause once they start they never go back lol!
But i know how much i wanted Nixon to do things seeing other babies accomplish it but every bub is different. Nixon rolled for the first time at 5.5months old, but never really did it again until he was crawling(11months). He hated tummy time because he couldnt hold his head up and would face plant and then spew and have a face full of spew! so any bubs that are a bit spewy or have relux might not want to be on their tummy.
great to see you back here Catherine! i think i said in an earlier post too that i didnt know Ty was ticklish till my mum tickled him and told me he laughed! its V cute isnt it!
Becky- unfortunatley the bed we wanted to buy is not in yet! DH went to 2 stores, both are atleast a week off. really bummed about that cause dh is pretty much not around for the next 4 weeks and i am going to be flat out working myself and minding the boys by myself. im annoyed we dont already have one, dh was the one that kept putting me off having it, i wanted to have one before Tyron was born grrr!
let me know how Liam goes with his transision and any tips you find that helps!
-
Hayley hasn't rolled over yet and doesn't look like doing it just yet - she doesn't mind the first few mins of tummy time but then gets over it and wants up.
And as for laughing, she has been so close to having a chuckle a few times but stopped just short so i figure that will happen very soon!
ummm, what else - she has slept in her own room in a bassinette from the second night we had her home. her room is right next to ours and as soon as she starts whinging i can hear her so no monitor needed. I was thinking that i'll probaby move her into her cot in the next week or two so she has a bit more room.
Most of the things we do seem to be by insitinct yet typically follow the 'book' anyway -she is definately on her back at night, but on her side sometimes during the day to try and get rid of the flat spot she favours. I try not to feed her to sleep but sometimes she can't help it and just falls asleep..
Catherine - glad to hear you and Rochelle are doing well. What a great sleeper she is!!! Does she do good day sleeps as well or does she get it all at night?
-
Hi All,
Rebecca & Caitlyn - Amara also hates tummy time and shows absolutely no sign of rolling yet, thank goodness. Even so her head control is getting much better.
I have also noticed Amara getting much more vocal, cute squeals and gurgles. She smiles at you as soon as you look at her now - so cute. She also knows when you play a game with her now. I get her hands and make her do a little dance and she opens her mouth really wide and smiles her head off.
Question for those of you with older kids (toddlers - 4)
How in the world do you stop them poking, prodding, grabbing, sqeezing etc etc the baby. I feel liek i am always at Eliza over Amara and I don't want her to resent Amara but honestly she just will not leave her alone. I have also caught her trying to put something in Amara's mouth! So now I cannot leave them alone for a second.
Any tips????
Night,
-
Leah - I thnk Im pretty lucky, dont have many problems with Liam poking Chels or anything. I cant really help you. I have just told him no a few times and he hasnt attempted since. Loves to run out in the morning and give her a big kiss, but thats about it!
PERMISSION TO BRAG!!!!!!!!!! We just put Liam in his big boy bed (which I have been putting off and dreading for ages........) Well, he let out a couple of cries and was sound asleep 5 minutes later! OMG I have been dreading it for so long and he was an absaloute angel!!! And he looks so small again in a big bed. So I am very proud of him tonight!!! ANd it was Chelsea's first night in the big cot oo (had to get it out of Liams room to set up the bed so we thought we may as well do it all in 1 night!) She looks tiny again too!! Good dirl fell straight asleep also. Gee, I have 2 perfect babies......
**OK, sorry, bragging over!!!**
Hope you all had a good weekend.
-
:happybirthday: Kate (misskate) :happybirthday:
I hope you have a great day and that your 2 boys spoil ya :D
-
Leah Chelsea feeds Jasmine food, tries to pick her up, burp her, rock her, thinks she is like her dolls....very rough but some days she is the calmest child and loves her...holds her hand, kisses her head etc
Its always 'No Chelsea', 'Dont hurt your sister Chelsea', 'Chelsea please leave her face alone'...etc...
But she is slowly adapting this baby that is here for a long time, a baby that will grow up and get her payback...a baby that will grow to be her best friend forever :)
Well done Liam on your big bed transition!!! And Good Girl Chelsea sleeping well in ur new big cot!! (Chelsea's are good sleepers ;) )
-
LOL - They must be Kim. I have been so blessed to have 2 such good babies! Haqvent heard a peep out of either of them!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATE!!!!!!!!!
-
Happy Birthday Kate.
Maddi is always smiling, laughing, talking, squealing & sighing. She is such a chatterbox, i can only imagine what she'll be like when she's older lol
Nice to hear from you again Cath :)
-
Morning everyone!
Happy birthday Kate! Hope you have a wonderful day!!
Leah - Joel is 3 years old and isn't too bad with poking and prodding his brother. When he does I say "do that gently" rather than "no" (unless what he is doing is unsafe) because otherwise he gets resentful. I try and withold the word "no" as much as possible and say something like, "here, this is how you should cuddle him" and get him to do it, then he doesn't feel like he is being told off in regards to the baby all the time. Otherwise he just gets frustrated and is naughty towards Kieran anyway if that makes sense?
Becky - Well done on getting Liam to sleep in a big boy bed!! How did he go overnight in it? Joel transitioned just before he turned two and it was much easier than I thought it would be too! I think it makes them feel special and grown up to go into a bed.
Kim - How was your week last week without Craig? I'm sure it will get easier each day for you.
Nic - Where is your DH going to be for the next 4 weeks? Gee, it will be hard work for you while he's away! Have you got someone who can give you a hand? So cute that Tyron is laughing!!
Catherine - Good to hear from you! Sorry to hear you have been unwell, I hope you are feeling better. Glad to hear Rochelle is doing so well.
Mo - Maddi sounds like such a happy little girl!
Kieran and I had a good laugh last night, he does this fake cough like he isn't impressed or something and I repeated it back to him and we laughed. Then he would wait and do it again and laugh. This went on for a while, he would do a little giggle or one big squeal, it was so cute! I thought he was clever working out a way to get his mum to laugh! He is so cheeky.
He slept for 9 uninterupted hours last night! After his last feed (dream feed) I put him to bed at 9:45pm and he woke up at 6:45am. He was so happy when he woke up, it's no wonder after all that sleep!
-
Leah- before readin everyone elses posts i was going to write the same thing and just from what the others have said makes me agree more with myself lol! now i will explain what im try to say hehe.
I really think the girls are way more interested in babies than the boys. I see the way Nixon is different towards Tyron then his two Neices. when they are around i am always telling (the younger one mainly) to be gentle etc she is just facinated by him. and i know my sister had problems with baby 2 and her DD1. She had to use a play pen thing and put DD2 in it when she needed to do stuff so DD1 couldnt get to her. she used to try and pick her up, feed her etc etc.
Maybe its the motherly instinct in them? Nixon is interested in Tyron dont get me wrong and i do have to tell him to be gentle when he goes to touch his face or something but he just doesnt have that want or need to do more for him??
way to go becky! what a good boy Liam is! so maybe thats the trick straight into the bed and cot straight out, i just didnt want Nixon to resent Ty somehow if he saw his bed going into Tyrons room?
Happy birthday kate!! hope you have a great day
The last 3 nights Ty has done 8.30pm-6.30am WOW! but was up with nixon instead last night.
woke up 1am crying 9i only went to bed about 12.15am) i tried re settleing him and going back to bed, didnt work, so i was cuddling him, he was calming down but real squirmy like he was uncomfortable so i thought maybe he has been bitten by mozzies. anyway finally i figured it out when he was arching his back so much that he had pooed. (couldnt actually smell it) and he had been sleeping in it for a while and it burnt him. poor boy was so upset i was caking the cream on (pulled out my good expensive one for extra red bottoms) took a while to calm him down afterwards so he spent a little time in our bed. anyway the cream has done its trick most of the redness is all gone.
ETA: Trish DH (dunno if i have said it b4) works with all the bands etc that tour oz, its freight logistics kind of stuff and he has to organise their equiptment in and out of the country. So most of the bands tour in our summer which means his busiest time. He is working on "The Police" at the moment it is massive, there is a stack of stuff coming via sea freight as well as 3 charter aeroplanes. Wednesday he has to go to Brisbane, he will be back but working day and night in Sydney, then goes to Melb, then back then goes to Perth then back. so he may be home a day or two in betweeen but he'll prob just be trying to catch up on sleep then!
happy 3 months to my baby boy today!
-
Happy Birthday Kate!! Hope you had a beautiful day and was spoilt rotten!!!
Becky - What gorgeous kids you have - such good sleepers!! Must be from having a lovely, calm Mummy. I think what you said about Brissy meet-ups is a great idea and the first Wednesday of every month sounds good to me! Maybe we can just change location every now and then for a change of scenery? Thanks for compliments on my little sister and cousins - yes they're very good kids. I was 17 when Demi was born so am kind of like her 2nd Mum rather than a big sister - she has always been a placid kid - when I compare how easy she was as a baby with Mateo - My God! What a difference!!!!! :-)
Mateo has been rolling since 6 days old - he is what my Dad calls a 'wiry little fella', he is never content just to be still he's always got to be moving and he rarely is happy just to sit still on your lap, he cracks it and I always have to stand up and rock! Hard work I tell you! I don't place too much importance on when they reach their little milestones, I think every baby is different, as long as they're developing healthily is all that matters.
Trish - awesome sleeping by Kieran! Mateo slept through the night for the first time on Saturday night - Yey!! Last night I couldn't wake him for his 10:30-11pm feed however, so he woke at 3am for a feed of course! Oh well, once is not too bad and if I can even get one full night's sleep a week I will be a happy Mum!
Off to doc's this morning - and paediatrician on Friday - Mateo is still having tummy troubles, poor baby. :-( Better go get ready!
xo
-
Just FYI Kate, she has a 45 minute nap in the morning, a 2 to 2 an half hour nap midday an hour in the afternoon. :)
-
Nickers - just read post - Poor Nixon!! If only they could just tell us! I hope you are managing alright on your own - I would imagine it would be pretty full on and tiring!!
Also forgot to say to Catherine - Hope you are feeling better, that's terrible about the infection. Glad to hear Ro is well - what a great little sleeper - am so jealous of all these good sleepers - I only dream of such a life!!! :-)
xo
-
Ill just add ofter reading your post Trish (and makes me feel bad for saying NO all the time to Chelsea), but i do also show her how to be nice to Jasmine, cuddle, be gentle etc....so im not always saying no and making her feel like she is in trouble!
Life without Craig has been hard but hey...this is how its going to be so i have to deal with it and move on. Other mums have to do it...so i have to as well!
I agree Nic...boys dont seem as interested in babies...my friends boys dont give a rats about Jasmine when we visit...LOL
-
Kim - I should have added that because Joel is 3 years old I can reason with him whereas Chelsea is only 1 and she will understand the word "no" more than you trying to explain things to her! Sorry, I didn't mean to make you feel bad! If Joel was one I would be saying "no" about a million time a day! I should have said that in my reply earlier, it's still too early for my brain to function reasonably.
-
No Trish you didnt make me feel bad.... i just thought $hit i sound so bad saying 'i say No all the time'...but yes i understand what you are saying. Chelsea knows what i mean...but still continues to do something. What she doesnt understand is what she is actually doing wrong.Like poking Jasmines eyes could be dangerous... :(
She knows very well what no means..but chooses to ignore me!
-
Kim - I am sure you have done a marvellous job without Craig there.....am also sure that it has been hard! MY DH goes away on 2nd Feb for a week. So it will be just me and Caitlyn for that time.....joy joy joy. Although I must admit that he doesnt really do a lot with Caitlyn during the week (she is normally asleep by the time he gets home from work) the Saturday and Sunday that he is at home is my time to do things that I cant do with Caitlyn on my hip. Its going to happen regularly through the year as he is doing his last year of TAFE before finalising his apprenticeship.
Sleeping - Caitlyn is getting a little better. Mainly going down at around 830 and then not waking till 2 or 230. But she still wakes at 5 or 530 no matter what. This morning I walked into her room and the smell!!! For the first time she had pood and it wasnt during the feed!
Now for a nice question......does anyone else's bub have unusual coloured poos? Caitlyns are like an olive drab (army green) colour. Sometimes they are a mustard colour but more often than not they are like a grey green colour. Is this something I should be worried about? She seems otherwise to be a happy baby - coos and goos and smiles. My mum suggested she had a problem with wind but she burps and farts easily and normally without any back patting.
Anyway - got to get ready for work - have a good day all!
-
Hi all,
Nic - I got the message from Lori. Hope you manage to get through all those parties! Sorry we wont get to see eachother before I go. Take care and see you when I get back.
By the book - I sleep Harry on his back amd Emily too. Rolling = IMO it's natural for them to do this in their sleep so I don't interfere, from previous experience Emily would certainly let me know if she didn't like being in that position! Emily is allergic to dairy and Harry is showing similar signs but I'm not concerned about other allergies really. I eat peanut butter occasionally and don't avoid any of the other allergens, I just eat in moderation. No dummy here, he's already used his thumb a few times and I'm happy to encourage that for self settling.
Sleeping: Harry sleeps in our room in a hammock beside my side of the bed. Considering we are currently in a 2 bed place, I'm in no hurry to move him out. I'm happy he's in our room. I moved Emily into her own room in the first few weeks but still had to get up twice a night to feed using a chair in her room. Now all I have do is lean over and reach for Harry. A lot easier!
Lizzy - Emily isn't that interested in Harry to be honest but when she is I tend to watch and try not to jump in. She has done a few things to him and we talk about why that's not nice etc. So far so good!
We are off to the UK on Thursday - I can't belive how quickly it's come about! We are so excited.
Happy 3 month birthday Harry Willem!

I was studying to work in child care and there 'rules' are not to use any negative language...i.e. don't. I personally think it is a load of rubbish, and hence the reason I never went through working in child care. I can understand with older children and babies that you might want to tell them what 'not' to do in a positive manner, but not using the word don't and things like that is a bit hard.
If I had an older child with Max, I would encourage them to do their own special thing with them, so maybe at a certain time of the day, they get to have a play and a hold (if they want to) so that way, they aren't going to resent the baby for taking away 'their' time...iykwim.
Can't really say any of this from experience though as I don't have an older child. I'm sure you ladies out there with them are all doing your best though. Kids like to help though so I would encourage that...like 'you go and get a nappy' or squirt the stuff into the bath water....
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATE!
Have a good day everyone

Happy Birthday Kate!
I just got some Baby Einstein DVD's for Tahlia - she is watching Baby Mozart at the moment, and she thinks its hilarious! Does anyone else have these DVD's?

Don't log in for a day and a million posts to get through. I'll try to remember what I wanted to say:
Kate - Happy Birthday! Hope you have a good day and little Lachie is nice to his Mum.
Cath - hi stranger. Sorry to hear you haven't been well. Hope you are feeling better. Good to hear that Miss R is doing so well. Look forward to seeing you both in the near future.
Brissy girls - yes, lets set an ongoing date. Agree with the alternating of venue. Perhaps when it is cooler look at a park or something different. If we go for the first Wednesday of the month, our next meet up will be Wednesday 6 Feb.
Kellie - we have the Baby Einstein activity mat. L is lying underneath it at the moment. Will look at getting some of the DVDs as L likes watching the TV and I think if he is he should at least be looking at something better than Oprah!
Becky - you have such clever kids. Pleased to hear that the transition to their new beds went well.
Rolling - L is very close to rolling. As I type he is on his mat rolling onto his side. His arm seems to be getting in the way. L is not too keen on tummy time, but will tolerate it for a minute or so.
Still struggling with the new night time routine. L was awake at 12.45am and again at 3am. Both times I put the dummy in and he went back to sleep. At 3.45am figured that it had been over 6 hours since his last feed so fed him. Up again at 5am and didn't really settle until after 9am. Know I need to persevere with it but it is getting a bit tiring.
So cute, L's mat has a motion activation feature. He just sneezed and it went off!
Enough from me!

Kate - Sorry I missed you in my previous post - Happy Birthday!!!
Saffi - You poor thing!! Keep at it! I am sure all your hard work will pay off in the end! We have a fisher price activity mat and Caitlyn sneezing sends that off too! Mind you she doesnt particularly like it anymore so she doesnt play on it. Will re introduce it later I think.
Claire - What sort of signs is Harry showing that indicate a dairy allergy? I am just asking cause the ladies at Caitlyn's daycare are worried about the colour of her poo and I read today that army green poo could be a sign of allergy - the only thing she drinks is formula so I just hope its not an allergy to that. I wasnt particularly worried until they said something to me as she is a healthy happy baby otherwise!
Oh I must get her weighed in the next week or so. Will be curious to see how much she weighs. I really should buy a set of digital scales to see if they help out in that field - MCHN is nearly impossible to get a hold of!!
