Leah - I am in the same position as you... Tahlia is currently in our room in a bassinette, but she doesn't have too much room left in the length of it when she stretches... I don't want to move her to her own room yet, cause its at the other end of the house and I'm scared! We put her in her cot in her own room for her day sleeps so hopefully it won't be too much of a shock for her
Julia - I think I am fairly by the book, Tahlia always sleeps on her back, I don't spray fly spray when she is around, but I do eat nuts and chocolate! I think most of the time we just need to go with our intuition, cause mother knows best!
Question for all the mums whose bubs are rolling - how do you encourage them to do that? Tahlia doesn't even really try, but just in the past couple of days if you lay on the couch with your knees bent and lean her on them, she lifts herself up - its pretty cute... if she does it too fast, she flops forwards!
-
Interesting answers everyone... I do some things by the book, but mainly leave it up to instinct. I think I'm doing OK so far!
Rolling....Max isn't yet (he's probably got too big a belly to get over!) I've encouraged him by rolling him from his back to tum for his tummy time. I'm sure he'll do it in his own time...pretty happy with the fact that he's still immobile iykwim?

Hey all!
Kieran has been in his cot in his own room since pretty much day one. I tried him in a cradle at first, but then thought I may as well just put him in his cot straight away so I don't have to transition him later. We have had no probs, but he is starting to move around in there and I find him lying across-ways sometimes!
K isn't interested in rolling yet, but it is really early to be rolling anyway. Joel started rolling at 4 months and was the first in our mum's group of 8 babies to do it. I much prefer a baby who just stays in one spot! Once they start to move, that's it, they never go back!!
He's been sleeping really well still, two nights ago he slept for 9 straight hours, I was so happy! He did 8 last night, but who's to complain? He went straight back down after his 5am feed so I got a few hours of sleep in there. I still feel tired today though!
Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Well Caitlyn doesnt even look like she will roll anytime soon! She HATES tummy time. I can't even get her to lay on her tummy for more than a minute before she starts screaming!! I've tried before and feed and after a feed and nothing seems to make her want to be on her tummy. Just kinda leave it now - not worth getting stressed about it. Actually the only time she spends on her tummy is when she is sleeping on daddy's chest!
Caitlyn is now in some sort of a routine although some nights she throws it out the window. We tend to bath her at 530 feed her at 630 and try to have her in bed by 730. Sometimes, like last night, she goes down for a little while and then wakes up. So we gave her a top up feed at 8 and she slept until 130 this morning. Normally she sleeps until 2 and then up again at 5. Last night it took over an hour before I could get her to settle after the 130 feed. Then she was up at 5! Luckily DH was home and thats his duty on a Sunday morning!
She is really starting to get more and mroe talkative! And her cry has changed in tone.....its hard to explain - doesnt seem to be the same sound anymore!
Anyway -off for some lunch and cuddles with DH - after this morning he deserves it! I got to sleep in until 9!!

Nickers - We are in the same position! We bought Liam a bed the other day, and are gona try and put it all together tonight. Im DREADING it!!! I think we are gonna try the clean sweep, and just get his cot out tonight, and put him in his bed. He actually sleeps better at night than he does for his daytime sleeps so I think thats the best way for us. Im so not looking forward to it. LOL. I can see a few tricky nights coming up! Let me know how you go with Nixon too! Its funny that our babies are so similar in age!
Kellie - Chelsea isnt rolling yet either! I think all babies do things at differnet times. Liam was almost 5 months before he started rolling to, the nurse said that was good. So give it time, I dont think its urgent! LOL
-
Jas is no where near rolling....hates tummy time, refuses to lift her head even. Chelsea never rolled til 4 months so im not worried....each child is different and will do things when their time is right!
We are thinking of gettin a bed for Chelsea now...Jas is growing alot faster then we thought she would be...and also had the extra 4cm in length disadvantage on Chels....so big bed will be on its way soon so Jas can have the cot!
-
I didn't do anything to encourage Maddi to roll, she just got sick of tummy time & started rolling.
It was a lot easier when she wasn't rolling.
I don't really go by the book, i follow my instinct.

Hi ladies,
Thought I'd just pop in and say hi! I hope you are all well :) Sorry I couldn't make it to your meetup on Friday, I ended up in hospital with an infection. For those of you who have been messaging me asking and me being too slack to reply - We are really well! Rochelle is a few 100 grams off 7kgs and sometimes chuckles for almost a minute. She now sleeps through from 7 to 7 but sometimes wakes for a feed around 5am. I think she is going through a growth spurt at the moment because she is demanding more milk, so i've had to quit expressing through the day at the moment just so she can have the extra. We discovered Rochelle is ticklish the other day, our Dr was tickling her tummy and she started laughing!
Well I hope everything is going beautifully with your bubs... I think of you all from time to time and hope your all loving motherhood as much as I am.
Happy New Year,
-
Ty just decided a couple of days ago that he would roll from his back to his tummy. it started off more rolling to the side but his arm was in the way, so with a few helps from me to move his arm he mastered it. But like some others said its better when they dont move cause once they start they never go back lol!
But i know how much i wanted Nixon to do things seeing other babies accomplish it but every bub is different. Nixon rolled for the first time at 5.5months old, but never really did it again until he was crawling(11months). He hated tummy time because he couldnt hold his head up and would face plant and then spew and have a face full of spew! so any bubs that are a bit spewy or have relux might not want to be on their tummy.
great to see you back here Catherine! i think i said in an earlier post too that i didnt know Ty was ticklish till my mum tickled him and told me he laughed! its V cute isnt it!
Becky- unfortunatley the bed we wanted to buy is not in yet! DH went to 2 stores, both are atleast a week off. really bummed about that cause dh is pretty much not around for the next 4 weeks and i am going to be flat out working myself and minding the boys by myself. im annoyed we dont already have one, dh was the one that kept putting me off having it, i wanted to have one before Tyron was born grrr!
let me know how Liam goes with his transision and any tips you find that helps!

Hayley hasn't rolled over yet and doesn't look like doing it just yet - she doesn't mind the first few mins of tummy time but then gets over it and wants up.
And as for laughing, she has been so close to having a chuckle a few times but stopped just short so i figure that will happen very soon!
ummm, what else - she has slept in her own room in a bassinette from the second night we had her home. her room is right next to ours and as soon as she starts whinging i can hear her so no monitor needed. I was thinking that i'll probaby move her into her cot in the next week or two so she has a bit more room.
Most of the things we do seem to be by insitinct yet typically follow the 'book' anyway -she is definately on her back at night, but on her side sometimes during the day to try and get rid of the flat spot she favours. I try not to feed her to sleep but sometimes she can't help it and just falls asleep..
Catherine - glad to hear you and Rochelle are doing well. What a great sleeper she is!!! Does she do good day sleeps as well or does she get it all at night?

Hi All,
Rebecca & Caitlyn - Amara also hates tummy time and shows absolutely no sign of rolling yet, thank goodness. Even so her head control is getting much better.
I have also noticed Amara getting much more vocal, cute squeals and gurgles. She smiles at you as soon as you look at her now - so cute. She also knows when you play a game with her now. I get her hands and make her do a little dance and she opens her mouth really wide and smiles her head off.
Question for those of you with older kids (toddlers - 4)
How in the world do you stop them poking, prodding, grabbing, sqeezing etc etc the baby. I feel liek i am always at Eliza over Amara and I don't want her to resent Amara but honestly she just will not leave her alone. I have also caught her trying to put something in Amara's mouth! So now I cannot leave them alone for a second.
Any tips????
Night,

Leah - I thnk Im pretty lucky, dont have many problems with Liam poking Chels or anything. I cant really help you. I have just told him no a few times and he hasnt attempted since. Loves to run out in the morning and give her a big kiss, but thats about it!
PERMISSION TO BRAG!!!!!!!!!! We just put Liam in his big boy bed (which I have been putting off and dreading for ages........) Well, he let out a couple of cries and was sound asleep 5 minutes later! OMG I have been dreading it for so long and he was an absaloute angel!!! And he looks so small again in a big bed. So I am very proud of him tonight!!! ANd it was Chelsea's first night in the big cot oo (had to get it out of Liams room to set up the bed so we thought we may as well do it all in 1 night!) She looks tiny again too!! Good dirl fell straight asleep also. Gee, I have 2 perfect babies......
**OK, sorry, bragging over!!!**
Hope you all had a good weekend.

:happybirthday: Kate (misskate) :happybirthday:
I hope you have a great day and that your 2 boys spoil ya :D
-
Leah Chelsea feeds Jasmine food, tries to pick her up, burp her, rock her, thinks she is like her dolls....very rough but some days she is the calmest child and loves her...holds her hand, kisses her head etc
Its always 'No Chelsea', 'Dont hurt your sister Chelsea', 'Chelsea please leave her face alone'...etc...
But she is slowly adapting this baby that is here for a long time, a baby that will grow up and get her payback...a baby that will grow to be her best friend forever :)
Well done Liam on your big bed transition!!! And Good Girl Chelsea sleeping well in ur new big cot!! (Chelsea's are good sleepers ;) )
-
LOL - They must be Kim. I have been so blessed to have 2 such good babies! Haqvent heard a peep out of either of them!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY KATE!!!!!!!!!
-
Happy Birthday Kate.
Maddi is always smiling, laughing, talking, squealing & sighing. She is such a chatterbox, i can only imagine what she'll be like when she's older lol
Nice to hear from you again Cath :)
-
Morning everyone!
Happy birthday Kate! Hope you have a wonderful day!!
Leah - Joel is 3 years old and isn't too bad with poking and prodding his brother. When he does I say "do that gently" rather than "no" (unless what he is doing is unsafe) because otherwise he gets resentful. I try and withold the word "no" as much as possible and say something like, "here, this is how you should cuddle him" and get him to do it, then he doesn't feel like he is being told off in regards to the baby all the time. Otherwise he just gets frustrated and is naughty towards Kieran anyway if that makes sense?
Becky - Well done on getting Liam to sleep in a big boy bed!! How did he go overnight in it? Joel transitioned just before he turned two and it was much easier than I thought it would be too! I think it makes them feel special and grown up to go into a bed.
Kim - How was your week last week without Craig? I'm sure it will get easier each day for you.
Nic - Where is your DH going to be for the next 4 weeks? Gee, it will be hard work for you while he's away! Have you got someone who can give you a hand? So cute that Tyron is laughing!!
Catherine - Good to hear from you! Sorry to hear you have been unwell, I hope you are feeling better. Glad to hear Rochelle is doing so well.
Mo - Maddi sounds like such a happy little girl!
Kieran and I had a good laugh last night, he does this fake cough like he isn't impressed or something and I repeated it back to him and we laughed. Then he would wait and do it again and laugh. This went on for a while, he would do a little giggle or one big squeal, it was so cute! I thought he was clever working out a way to get his mum to laugh! He is so cheeky.
He slept for 9 uninterupted hours last night! After his last feed (dream feed) I put him to bed at 9:45pm and he woke up at 6:45am. He was so happy when he woke up, it's no wonder after all that sleep!
-
Leah- before readin everyone elses posts i was going to write the same thing and just from what the others have said makes me agree more with myself lol! now i will explain what im try to say hehe.
I really think the girls are way more interested in babies than the boys. I see the way Nixon is different towards Tyron then his two Neices. when they are around i am always telling (the younger one mainly) to be gentle etc she is just facinated by him. and i know my sister had problems with baby 2 and her DD1. She had to use a play pen thing and put DD2 in it when she needed to do stuff so DD1 couldnt get to her. she used to try and pick her up, feed her etc etc.
Maybe its the motherly instinct in them? Nixon is interested in Tyron dont get me wrong and i do have to tell him to be gentle when he goes to touch his face or something but he just doesnt have that want or need to do more for him??
way to go becky! what a good boy Liam is! so maybe thats the trick straight into the bed and cot straight out, i just didnt want Nixon to resent Ty somehow if he saw his bed going into Tyrons room?
Happy birthday kate!! hope you have a great day
The last 3 nights Ty has done 8.30pm-6.30am WOW! but was up with nixon instead last night.
woke up 1am crying 9i only went to bed about 12.15am) i tried re settleing him and going back to bed, didnt work, so i was cuddling him, he was calming down but real squirmy like he was uncomfortable so i thought maybe he has been bitten by mozzies. anyway finally i figured it out when he was arching his back so much that he had pooed. (couldnt actually smell it) and he had been sleeping in it for a while and it burnt him. poor boy was so upset i was caking the cream on (pulled out my good expensive one for extra red bottoms) took a while to calm him down afterwards so he spent a little time in our bed. anyway the cream has done its trick most of the redness is all gone.
ETA: Trish DH (dunno if i have said it b4) works with all the bands etc that tour oz, its freight logistics kind of stuff and he has to organise their equiptment in and out of the country. So most of the bands tour in our summer which means his busiest time. He is working on "The Police" at the moment it is massive, there is a stack of stuff coming via sea freight as well as 3 charter aeroplanes. Wednesday he has to go to Brisbane, he will be back but working day and night in Sydney, then goes to Melb, then back then goes to Perth then back. so he may be home a day or two in betweeen but he'll prob just be trying to catch up on sleep then!
happy 3 months to my baby boy today!
