*ding ding* round 2.
so this morning i thought i'd try it the 'baby whisperer's' way for his morning nap. great. we BOTH ended up in tears. it's just too horrible to contemplate.
to answer some questions:
yes he does stay asleep almost always. i realise that i only rock him to dozey/heavy eyes then usually he goes the rest of the way himself. usually he's spat the dummy while i'm rocking so i put that away and he's fine. sometimes he'll grizzle and i'll rub his head. he's not dependent on dummy at all and doesn't wake up wanting it.
i think i've given myself too much grief over this.
he has never seemed to wake up wondering where i am, or where he is, it's usually his piggy guts that wakes him up on the hunt for milk (or DH blasting the coffee grinder... *grumble*).
up the baby whisperer with a hose, i say.
i think whoever said it (maybe saffi) is right -it will take time and i'll do baby steps. i'll just reduce the fitball bouncing time and increase the in-cot pat time but let him put himself off each time. he's still asleep now. god knows it's better than that crying fiasco this morning. Mr DH "Bad Parent" is happy to support me no matter what i choose (which usually means i do whatever i want and he doesn't get mad at me).
as for the type of lawyer... i'm technically everything and nothing because i haven't specialised yet. i'm trained in it all and have most experience in property and personal injury litigation. i'll have to wait and see what happens about law stuff v james.
haha viv, what does the baby whispered make you do?
she's pretty onto it in most regards. it's quite a moderate approach between Ferber's 'cry it out' and Sears' attachment parenting.
she advocates e-a-s-y - which is getting the baby in a routine that consists of:
e = eating every 2.5 to 3 horus
a = activity for 45 minutes
s = catching their tired signs and putting them to sleep
y = you time
her method is to pick up a crying baby, or pat or soothe them only until they're calm, not until they're fully asleep. she claims you can retrain a baby in 3 days if under 3 months, and longer for older babies.
she is a midwife with lots of good advice, i just don't think james is ready to dive into a new-fangled sleep method just yet. she does describe babies like him and said she had to pick up and put down that baby 126 times one night to settle him.
i was in tears after picking him up 3 or 4 times. don't have the guts for it, i'm afraid.
after all, those babies won't sleep at night and ol chuckasui does. i believe in going with your instincts. if you stuff it up and create a rod for your back, so be it, i guess. if you don't make one mistake, you're only going to make another.
true that. well i think i have to start wrappiing lachlan for his day sleeps now. havent wrapped him at all since hospital and the last week has been really hard putting him down for his day sleeps so fun times for me:)
Must be fun times for us all! DS has had crappy day sleeps today, waking after one sleep cycle (40 mins for him) and I haven't been able to resettle him. Also, the last two nights he's waking every 2-2.5 hours from midnight to 6am. WTF?? He was doing 3-4 hour blocks before this. I have no idea what's going on but I'm getting tired again!
Trish - I know that you and I use very similar settling/sleeping techniques so have a question for you - if K wakes after one sleep cycle and you try to resettle him for some time (say 30-40 mins) and he still won't resettle, what do you do with him? Do you get him up? If so, what do you do with him once he's up?!
Well I guess in one way I am lucky having Caitlyn in daycare. They put her down for a few 20 mins sleeps every day and at night she sleeps like an angel for about 9 hours. The weekends tend to throw her though - we wrap her at midday and let her have a long sleep - 1.5 to 2 hours. But most of the time they are short unwrapped naps.
I cuddle Caitlyn to sleep. I wait till she is pretty much all the way asleep and then she goes into her cot. She normally wakes once i put her head down but after standing over her for about 2 minutes she falls back asleep and stays that way.
AF - Been back twice now :( but no dramas with it.
Am still at work with still nothing to do....am browsing bellybelly reading all sorts of things!
Have a great day all MWAHA
Ok - up front let me apologise for infering that anyone who remembers Michael Hutchence is old.
Carp night last night. L woke at 2am, as is his habit, and I put his dummy in and he went back to sleep. Ok. So at 3.45am he wakes again. I try to settle him, wrap him, change him etc - not looking to go to sleep anytime soon. So I figure he needs a feed. That done, I put him down. He is unsettled, spitting his dummy out etc. He had hiccups - for over an hour. I don't care that everyone says it doesn't worry babies - it does! He wouldn't sleep. In the end fed him for the third time and he fell asleep and no hiccups. So I got to bed just before 5am and up at 7.30!
Been an angel today tho. Dragged him out to the shops and he was very well behaved and have just got home and he has gone down for a sleep. Such a good little boy.
Viv - we have the second Baby Whisperer book. DH bought it and has read much of it. I haven't read it yet. Probably would learn something if I did.
Hope everyone is having a good Thursday.
Afternoon all!
I spent the morning and lunchtime at my sister's. She has a 2yo DS who loves to play with Joel and her DD is 10 weeks old so we had a fun time swapping stories! Kieran had a good sleep there and slept in the car on the way home, but when we got home he wouldn't settle back in bed so I just fed him and gave him some wake time. He's gone to sleep now, fingers crossed he has a nice sleep! I have a customer coming soon so hopefully he sleeps through it.
Willow - If Kieran just won't settle and it is too soon for a feed (i.e he's not really hungry) I get him up and put him in his baby swing, he doesn't go back to sleep, but he has some nice quiet time for half an hour, then I feed him again and our routine just changes for the day. It is frustrating when you have things planned for the day though!! Hope you get a better night with him tonight!
Saffi - Hee hee, I didn't really take offence at your Michael Hutchence comments, I was just stirring! It frightens me how fast time goes. Hope you and L get a better night tonight too!
Viv - You're doing a great job! Who knew that settling a baby could be so physically and emotionally exhausting! I don't know any mum who has just cruised through it. Perserverence is the key, I think once babies start to learn what to expect at naptime they settle down and get the hang of it.
Julia - Glad to hear Max is getting back on track for you. What a good o'night sleeper he is!
Mo - All the best today at the hospital. I hope you get well very soon.
Kellie - Bot. Gardens it is. I am free up until the 22nd of Feb, then I'm going away for a week.
Celtic - I hope you start to feel better soon
Kim - Glad to hear the girls are going so well! Hope you all get better soon.
Nic - Wow, you are superwomen doing all you are doing by yourself! I hope you get to have some rest soon.
Well, better run. Customer will be here any minute, hope she buys something!
Hey all!
Celtic - Im still sorry for you. :( But like you said, I guess it all happens for a reason, and this bubba just wasnt healthy enough. a blessing in a way I guess. I hope you are ok. X
Mo - Good luck in hospital! Hope your ok.
Kim- What a champion post! Dont think you forgot anyone! You thinking of putting Chels in a bed anytime soon (we probably have had that conversation, but I still suffer from SCBB - Severe Case of Baby Brain!)
Amber - Great to catch up with ya! Must do it again soon...
Not sure why Cath is upset. Hope your ok Cath!
melb gals - maybe the weekend of the 9-10 Feb then? Does that suit?
9th is a Sat and im out...but the 10th is ok for me.
Becky we are thinking of putting Chelsea in a big bed soon :) Cant wait.
The 10th suits us as far as I know...hopefully it suits Mo too and if Ange is about, let us know if you'd like to come!
sounds good to me.... maybe we should PM Ange, or send her a message on facebook?
Ummm...have I missed something? Cath has removed us all from Facebook? I hope everything is OK.
yeah i just noticed that too. a little offended TBH i dont feel i have done anything to be shut off for not apparent reason
She hasnt removed everyone only a few
Yeah a few from here have been kept. The rest have been removed.
Im sure she has her reasons....but its weird the ones that have remained.
Aw wells!
Jas had a check over today..OMG i have a fatty!! 6.8kg, 63.5cm long, head 40.5cm. Nurse was very happy...she is all in proportion to her body but weight and head was a bit off the grapth!!
well done Jas on the checkup!
i'm with you nickers... I definitely haven't done anything to offend, so don't know whats going on there..... her loss, not ours!
I dont think any of us have done anything to offend her. For some reason she is just p1ssed off with us all. No IDEA! Who did she keep as friends? Im offended too, but oh well, I have more imprtant things to worry about. She's obviously not worth it. SORRY, Im just pretty mad about the whole thing.
No loss to me!!
Anyway, how was everyones day? Mine was great! Babies are all tucked up in bed now, all sound asleep. Awwww...
If anyone she would have got rid of me..althought we have communicated since 'that day' and were talking about it...seemed ok..but def not the same!
I know Kellie..i was in shock when i seen the scales....she is growing 100 times faster then Chelsea did..i think son enuf they will weight the same!! If only i could say my milk was doing it..but instead..'my formula can' is doing a mighty fine job :D
even more offended that certain ppl were picked off. but yep not our loss if thats how it is.
wow great weight going miss jasmine!! i guess Tyron is somewhere in that visinity too, have to get him checked. gosh im so slack Nixon was getting weiged etc every week or two!

I know Kim...... Remember.... Not worth it!!
We all still have each other!
Thats it matey....thanks :)
Hi All,
Wow, so many posts!
Viv - with the sleep thing, I agree withthe other ladies who said go with what you feel is right for you. The one thing I'll say is that think about it though and ask yourself if what you do now will be OK in the future. If you can live with holding him to sleep then go for it. I said the same to my brother who was complaining he had a 3 year old still coming in to bed each night - either do the whole self settling thing or just let him in and don't complain, you can't tell him no one night and yes another. I think some of it is like you said, that "everyone" says you should not hold your baby to sleep or let them in bed PFFFTTT to them! Do what you want :D
I am lucky that Amara usually settles her self IF I pick the right time and don't let her get into state. I di hold her until she is calm and then put her down. If she cries I do it again, I don't believe in CC either. If she just won't settle I get her up and try on the next sleepy cycle (20-40 ins usually).
AF - no sign yet
Kim - Big girls bed huh :D cool, I remember Eliza getting hers it was alot easier than we thought it would be. WTG Chelsea
Amara has just realised I am the source of all things LOL! She has started making it very obvious she wants Mum and no-one else will do. Poor DH. Eliza was the same, looks like I have 2 mummy's girls.
Not looking forward to the 4 month vax.
Got myself a 2nd hand Phil and Teds pram - WOOT it is awesome :D. Hoping to walk some of this blubber off.
Also thinking of getting a baby swing as Amara is not happy at all in the rocker on the floor, and she has a habit of waking as soon as food is on the table.
Do any of you have one? If so do you use it/like it?? Any recommendations??
Night,
I got discharged at 11:58pm if i stayed till after 12am they would of charged me another full night even tho i would of only been there 10-20 mins, The joys of private insurance like i don't pay enough every month.
Anyways all went well 12 hours later my hand/wrist is all bruised & feels like it's gonna fall off.
I feel better I'm not tired or dizzy & apparently i have colour back in my face .
Feb 10th should be fine with me :D
I see this whole Cath thing went a bit crazy, as everyone said her loss.
Morning all,
Kim - Wow on Jasmine's awesome size! She's doing so well. Sending you lots of positive thoughts today ;)
Nic - WTG on the weight loss, you champion you! I can't believe you've managed that on top of everything else you have to do ATM! I still have 6kg to go and it isn't going to budge in a hurry.
Becky - Well done on your weight loss too! It must feel so good to see the kilos coming off. Maybe I should try WW! Some positive thought sent your way too ;)
Misskate - GL with the MCN's, let us know which ones you go with.
Leah - I use a Fisher Price smart response swing, it works really well, but I don't think Kieran would care what brand it was! As long as it rocks him back and forth he is happy.
Mo - Welcome home, I'm glad you are feeling a bit better. Did you have a transfusion? The 10th seems to be the date then?
The customer I had yesterday made a purchase and it is the biggest sale I've ever had in 2.5 years! I was rapt seeing as I'm not officially starting the biz up again until Feb. What a great start to the year! I'm still a bit nervous about starting back up again trying to fit it in amongst feeds and sleeps, I suppose I'll just see what happens. I just don't want it to become a stress in my life. Only time will tell!
