Ya - good question Kel, I have always wondered where your's came from Nerida!
Kellie my user name came from a time where i really liked Lillie's & angel was the only thing i could think to go next to it.
I have no imagination when it comes to user names, been trying to think of something new to change my name to.
anyone got any idea's for me????? lol
Amber have fun camping.
Mines a highschool Nickname.
hey ladies, well im glad its all settled down in here:)
lachlan has had f all sleep today, we were out and he just wanted to see whats going on. he is also fussing on the boob now. have to almost force him on there lol. my fil told me to put lachlan on farex today.... fat chance... my sil tried to peer pressure me into putting him on solids at THREE WEEKS OLD , not for me thanks, i figure so long as he is sleeping through, milk is obviously enough for him.
sorry for the selfish post but just scanned through the post.
my nickname came from my BIL back in the day when he was my boss, and i was 16 lol. thats got you thinking now hasnt it. lmao
see you all on here soon
Hey have us Brissy girls figured out a time ofr our next meet up yet?
Hi everyone.
Just did a heck of a lot of reading to catch up and am now too tired to reply to everyone but...
Username came from a highschool obsession with wanting to be a star!! hee hee. :-0 (Was really into acting, dancing etc).
Miss Kate - How do you get those nappies, really want to start using cloth and tried to fold some the other night and was useless.. think the fitted ones will be better!! :-)
Well, it is finally my turn for a rest... Mateo has all of a sudden become a very easy baby. He settles himself to sleep, he has a flexible kind of routine that he thrives on and only wakes once in the night for a feed!! Yeeeyyyyy!!!!!! He is a much happier little boy!
Will call in for personals later.. really need to go to bed now.
xoxo
I sent him back to the shops to get the right size! I'm a mean wife!
Just saw that I have baby spit on my shoulder. Don't know how long its been there. Bad, because I'm wearing a black T today. Thank God I didn't go out today! Things we Mums get put thru.
Watching a show about a couple with 17 kids. All I can say is OMG. Can you imagine having that many kids? Or going through labour that many times!
Having a facial and a pedicure in the morning. Good thing too 'cause my toes need a bit of attention. Can't wait!
My username actually comes from my dog. She is Saffi: named after the daughter in AbFab. She is a Lhasa Apso. If you go to my FB page she is the black and white one. My other dog is Gus. They are my fur-babies.
Kate - my baby book indicates that I was given some kind of fruit jelly at 7weeks old. I guess you did things like that back in the dark ages. I need to start reading up on when to introduce solids. Is it correct to assume it is a baby lead thing?
Becky - last time we discussed a meet up it was going to be Tuesday 5/2. I can't do that day. Mondays are no good for Kate.
More tomorrow. Nigh-night
Oh and yes Saffi - agree on the hiccups - it does upset them they hate getting them! I always pop Mateo straight on the boob to get rid of them!
Also Brissy meet up - did we say Wed Feb 6th?
Must have posted at the same time Saffi - enjoy the pedicure, how lovely!
terri im no expert but google bum genius, they are the ones im looking at cos the grow with the baby. they are about $30 each. thats a start i guess:)
saffi, i know babies lose that suck reflex at 4 months so after that i guess. but i think its a baby will tell you thing also, a friend of mine has a 6mnth old baby that only Just went on solids. so i dunno?? talk to your chn:)
terri - How did your appointment go? Did you get some answers about MAteo? Im so glad he has become angel baby for ya! Im not sure what is good for everyone regarding the meet up. Im fairly easy, but I dont think Amber can do Wednesdays....
Saff - Enjoy your pampering! You deserve it!
Nickers is just a nick name for Nic! pretty easy to pick my one i think lol!
OMG had my gf over tonight and we just watched footage of my engagement party 3.5yrs ago. we were in Melb and had some ppl fly interstate but wasnt a big one, and me and her were soooo drunk we filmed "Big nrother up late" our version, we stayed up till 6am and oh it was just so funny i havent laughted that hard in ages!! to anyone else we look like D heads but it was so fun watching it!!
anyway bed time, house next door having an 18th and music real loud so hoping i can actually get to sleep!
Kate - From everything that I have read, solids are advised to be started at 6 months. I have been told that that is when they have the ability for their tongue to move the food from the front of the mouth to the back so they can swallow. this age is recommended by WHO. however, the group leader at Caitlyn's sdaycare says rthat she started her daughter on solids at 6 weeks!!!! that was about 20 years ago. my mum said she gave us farex at 6 weeks but not exclusively we stll had breast milk. but i must admit that everything that i have read refers to breast fed babies - not bottle fed. i am waiting until Caitlyn is 4 months old, then i will mix one teaspoon of farex in her night time bottle. they say that you can see how well baby would take to a spoon by trying them with a teaspoon of cooled boiled water. the only reason i have looked into it is because caitlyn is such a guts on the bottle.
Sorry no personals this morning - have had a bit of a drama night with little miss C - up and down since about 2 am.
Oh and I think its quite obvious about my nickname! My name is rebecca and i was born in 1977. Looks like I will have to change my signature on Tuesday!!!! :( :(
Had to laugh Saffi at your DH nappy story - reminds me of a few weeks ago when I was at the shops with my DH and told him to go and get Hayley some more nappies, Infant size. He comes back with Infant size but for boys.....He was very tired and got a little irritable when I asked him "When did we have a boy" I made him go back and swap them hehehe
Hayley has had two good nights of sleep with 6 hours inbetween feeds - yaay! She went for 5 days straight wanting a feed every 3 hours all day and all night and i felt like a wreck at the end of it. Then she goes 8 hours and my goodness i thought my boobs were never going to be the same again.
Went out and had Chinese Indian food last night....hhmmm hoping she doesn't have any kind of reaction.
and as i type that i hear an explosion in her pants - better go take a look
see ya all
not so bad afterall.
Hey do you know that Babies Galore now stock Huggies in big boxes? I got a box of 128 Infant size for $49.95
Kate- Is that in their online store?? or the walk in store??
Both i think Rebecca - i went into the store but their online store sells pretty much everything i think
Solids - the MCHN's will recommend that you wait till 6 months... I think thats when they think their digestive systems are ready for food... but not really sure
Mo - your user name is way more original than mine!:p
Kate - that is a great price for the nappies... but I dont think they have babies galore in vic...:(
You're right Kellie - only in NSW and QLD - by the time you would add postage you probably wouldn't save anything.
Re solids - I've always heard/been told wait till 6 months
My MCHN has the food talk at 5 months because some babies are ready before 6 months.
I think Maddi will be one of those babies we had to put her on the sweet dreams formula because she was never content. If you give her more formula she throws up a lot of her bottle so it's not worth it.
Part of me can't wait till she can eat the other part doesn't want her to grow up.
Off to have a BBQ today, Kellie i don't think we have a babies galore either.
Saffi - Paediatrician seems to think it could just be an immature digestive system and that he will grow out of it. He has only had one stomach upset in two weeks which is great! Dr is not concerned about his weight gain which was a relief as the Clinic Sister makes me panic about it every week!!
What does everyone else's bubs roughly put on each week? Mateo puts on about 180g which I know is not a lot but I thought was still within the normal range? I've decided to stop worrying about it all so much now, he's obviously just a little fella and as long as the paediatrician wasn't concerned I'm happy with that!!
Taking Mateo to his swimming lesson now... so cute! They sing Nursery Rhymes for each movement they do in the pool and he loves it!!!!
xo
Morning everyone...
YAY...another Perthie...sorry I never noticed before!! Where abouts are you Peta
MiniMax came from what I called my bump. Even before we knew it was a boy...being that my maiden name was Maxwell, and well, I was carrying him, it was a MiniMax :)
Just sent DH off to get some nappies.....I hope he doesn't have the same dramas as the other DH's!!! Ill have to report back later.
HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY everyone. I love this day!! I've dressed Max up in surf t-shirt and boardshorts....we are going to a friends place with a pool and it's pretty hot so hopefully he will like it in there. He is used to the heated spa, so lets see how he takes the cold water!! Star do you put M under the water...is it scary?
Solids - our HCN said six months too. I plan on weaning Max off the boob then too so I can get some freedom. Selfish huh!! Figure that I may as well start it all at once. I don't want a 21 year old asking for boobie!!
See Ya!
Morning everyone!
Happy Australia Day!!
Went to the dr this morning because I woke up with a massive headache and nausea. I have been feeling unwell and faint on and off for a week or so, so I thought I'd better get checked out. I have a sinus infection and have been given some AB's to take. Hopefully they kick in soon coz I feel pretty yuck!
Yep, solids are usually recommended when they turn 6 months old, but Joel was 5 months when we started on Farax. The MCHN told me to give it a go because he always seemed hungry. He took it with no probs! I'll play it by ear with Kieran, but I know I will be much more relaxed about it this time. He is such a porker he doesn't need anything extra anyway! His thighs have big rolls of fat, so cute!
We noticed Kieran seems to have bowed legs, it seems more prominent lately. We asked the dr while we were there this morning and he said it's nothing to worry about and that they will eventually go 'knock kneed' and then go back to normal by about age 5. That doesn't sound comforting to me! He was only one of those rush-through clinic drs and he was quick to right it off. I think I'll take him back to the chiro and ask him.
Julia - Have fun at your friends pool! Let us know how Max goes in the cold water.
Star - Glad to hear Mateo is being an angel for you! He is SUCH a cutie I have to say! His weight gain sounds fantastic, I wouldn't be worried.
Mo - Hope you are feeling good today. Have fun at the barbie!
Kate - That's great Hayley is sleeping better at night for you. It makes all the difference doesn't it!
Nic - LOL at your engagement video! Glad you had a good laugh!
Saffi - Hope you enjoyed your facial/manicure. You lucky girl!
Kim - Glad you had some retail therapy yesterday, it's good for the soul! Did you buy much?
Kellie - I wish I had a more exciting username to explain to you lol!
Have a fun day everyone!
Ryans peadiatrician says that it changes every few years of what age to put bubbies on solids and theres no harm in gettin them used a little bit here and there at about 4 months on wards. A lot of the baby food says from 4 months. I have an appointment for a check up on the 14th Feb so will reask him and our normal GP and go from there. I think Ryan would gum a burger to death if he was given half a chance all food is his supposedly already wants what mum and dad are eating lol
Yeah I had Liam on farex, just before 5 months, and he was fine with it. Its what the doc recommended as he seemed like he was hungry. I think Chels is different. Once again, i think all babies are different.
HAPPY AUSTRALIA DAY ALL!!!
Hope you all have a great day.
Celtic you have just reminded me to ring and book Caitlyn's shots!! Of course Docs is shut right now - but will set an alarm to do it Tuesday!
I hope everyone is having a fantastic Australia day! D just got home so we are having a little bit of family time.
I was really hoping that my mum and dad would visit for the long weekend but it just didnt happen. I am really quite disappointed. I would think that they would make an extra effort to make it out here - Caitlyn is their only grandaughter!
Anyway - looks like my sister is leaving Brisbane and is moving back to townsville. She says that on her long weekends off she will catch the bus out here and spend some time with Caitlyn and I. More than likely Wayne will be working his usual 12 hour days still by the time she moves up so it would be nice to have some adult company on the weekends!
Anyway - enjoy your long weekends if you arent already. Was tinking about buying a little paddling pool.....I know someone else was taking bybby into one today - let us know how they go. I am afraid that if I put one up in my back yard my dogs would help themselves!!
We have had a very interesting day, don't know if you saw the thread but DS and I went along this morning with some other BB mums and bubs and had our photo taken for the Sunday Telegraph (Sydney paper)! Was fun but tiring. Not sure which pics if any will make it to print, but it was nice to meet some other BB girls, some of whom I've been chatting to for ages but have never met.
DS has had a great day, slept for 2.5 hours when we got home and I didn't have to resettle him once! Had another good sleep this arvo of about 1.5 hours and only had to resettle him by popping in his dummy. Ahhhh, LOVE days like this!
I have kept him up longer today between sleeps, 1.5 hours and he has settled without a peep both times, so maybe I've been putting him down too early. Will stick with it tomorrow and see how he goes with a full day at home (our little outing this morning tired him out, he only slept in the car and for about 20 mins in my arms).
Having two interesting problems - whenever I try to feed him he just wants to chat! This can seriously go on for 10 mins! The other is he is rolling around in his cot! I've found him sideways and also with his head at the other to where I put him down - anyone else finding this? I expected it a little later on to be honest!
Solids - I started DD at about 5 months, so a few weeks earlier than 'recommended' but to be honest, it was only in the hope that solids might get her to sleep through the night. Didn't work, she still woke for a feed, so I wouldn't do it again. Am going to wait till 6 months this time, cause IMO it's a PITA once they start eating! Very convenient this built in milk business!
Hope everyone is enjoying the weekend...
Oh sorry, self absorbed post here.
I have decided to enrol Liam into childcare 1 day a week. I really dont want to, because I think Im gonna sit home and just miss and worry about him soooooo much. But, I think I need to for his sake. He is 2, but none of our friends in QLD have kids, so he really has no interaction with other kids AT ALL. We went to the shop the other day and he started playing with some kids, and he had an absaloute ball! I just feel like he is starting to need that social interaction.
I looked into Playgroup, but all the playgroups near us are not very good (I tried taking him to some last year.) And I also thought it would be good for him to have a little bit of 'indeendent' time away from Mummy, as he is with me all day every day, and we have only ever left him with my parents otherwise. I feel so bad for him..... But I know I am doing the right thing for him. I think he will probably have a ball, it will just be me who will sit home crying! LOL.
Anyway, just thought Id share it.
Willow - Thats great about the photo shoot thing. Glad you had fun. It is always good to put names to faces hey???
Rebecca - Poor thing, you must get so lonely. I know I start to get lonely if I stay at home alld day, even just for 1 day! LOL
Celtic - I was also told that babies start to tell you when they need solids, by looking really interested in what your eating, or mimicking you...
Julia - Mateo is the teeny tiniest baby there and we don't push him under the water yet, but the other babies go under and they love it! At the moment he just does all the movements (well, I do them for him! :-) and when it's time to go under the water I just dip his chin and cheeks in the water so he can get used to it. The lady also sprinkles water all over his face while we sing 'Twinkle twinkle little star' so he can start practising to hold his breath. He really loves it and it's not scary at all - if he didn't like it I wouldn't take him. Your Australia Day sounds like fun!
Trish - I think that's a bit silly what the doctor said about Kieran having knocked knees - how can you tell at his age? And if it is, it's nothing to be concerned about, my brother had knocked knees until he was about ten and it didn't affect him at all - he excelled at sports. Thanks for reassurance and comments about little man - he is a bit of a cutie and I wouldn't say he is an 'angelic' child as such, just much easier than he was! Hee hee. Wouldn't change him for the world but!
Becky - I know it's hard but I think you are doing the right thing for Liam, and who knows you might enjoy the break! :-) Ignore me if I get a bit 'teachery' here but you can tell the kids who come through school who have not had independent time away from Mum; they aren't good problem solvers, too shy to communicate effectively, and they aren't risk takers - everything they need to succeed at school!
Enjoy your Australia Day everyone!!! xoxo
Willow - having exact same probs with rolling, wakes himself all the time! Luckily settles pretty quickly once we roll him back on to tummy and pat bum. We think it's quite funny though to come in and find him all over the place, happy as larry, wide, wide awake!! :-)
Terri - Oh really. Thank you so much! That made me feel heaps better. i thought it might be good for him to learn to do some things 'on his own'. I just have to make sure I dont chicken out from taking him (LOL - what a wuss!).
Becky I use FDC....Chelsea loves it. Highly recommend giving day care a go. Chelsea goes 2 days a week and when she cant go due to carer having holidays or courses etc she really misses it. Loves being with other kids...has been going since she was 5 months old because i was working.
Swimming lessons dont start til bubs are 6 months round here for me. Thinking of getting Chelsea enrolled cos she is a water baby. Ill enrol Jasmine when she is old enough too.
Thanks Kim - that to omade me fel heaps better. I know I am doing the right thing. Just hard to think my baby boy is growing up!!
I wanna look into swimming too, but I dont know if I have much time with the 2 of them now. LOL. Maybe I can pick a day when Anth is off and he can take 1 and I'll take the other?....
Just sitting here admiring my pretty pink toenails. Had a lovely time at the beauticians and was pampered. I used to have a facial every couple of months, but haven't in ages. Maybe it is something that I will go back to doing for some me time.
Rebecca - Is it your birthday on Tuesday? Mine's on Friday. I will be older than you :(
Star - great to hear M has been well for you lately. Where do you take him swimming and is there a class for such young bubs?
Becky - of course you are doing the right thing. Its only a day and I am sure after the initial crying he will make heaps of little friends and can't wait to go next time. You might even meet some friends out of it too! It would be nice for you to have a day with Chelsea and do whatever, tho your Mum is always there for you. Interested to hear your evaluation Terri. In that case L will be very independant and an excellent problem solver.
Trish - hope you are feeling better soon.
Solids - I'd always been told 6 months as well, but interested to hear that some bubs start earlier. A friend started her daughter at 4 months under Dr instructions to assist with reflux.
We weighed L today. He is now 5.09kgs. He put on 520gr in the last 10 days. Wow! It makes me realise that my milk supply and attachment must have have been dodgy for some time. He was averaging 157gr weight gain a week since leaving hospital which is in range.
Anyway, L is crying so best be off to feed the (not so) little tyke.
Time for a new thread everyone
