Hi ladies, just a quickie....
Amelia- i was advised to alternate which side i started on.
Congrats on your little man Saffi. :)
Sleep = at night we started with the bassinet in the bedroom, then moved it to just outside our door in the hallway, and then for about a week now it has been in her bedroom. So at night she is sleeping in her bedroom and IF I can get her to go down during the day she sleeps there too, otherwise it's in the sling or on my chest while I watch TV... I moved her into her bedroom because I found I wasn't getting much sleep either because I would wake every little noise she made - finding it heaps better now she is in her bedroom, which is just directly across the hall from us and she wakes me when it's feeding time no worries :)!
Ange - hope you enjoyed your jammy day :)! We love those here in our household!
MCN users qu = do you use liners?
And do you dry pale or soak? If you soak, in what?
When I was BF I too was told to alternate the side I started on each feed.
Viv; Theo sleeps in his own room, has done from the day we came home- just the same as my big boy Will. I sleep much better when they aren't with me, and they seem to as well. Theo probably has 1 or 2 sleeps a day in the pram or car seat, or sling, that's just life for second babies. We are out and about with pre-school etc.
Amelia, all the information I have about breastfeeding (ABA, books etc) says to start on the side you finished on- so if you feed on the right hand side, do tummy time, then feed on the left, for the next feed, you would start on the left, and tummy time, then finish on the right.
Saffi, congratulations on LAchlan's safe arrival...
2.50am - just got Kaylee to sleep... she has been unsettled since her 10pm feed!! Waiting to make sure she is def asleep and settled B4 I got to bed. Esp as I have been in bed and DH has been the one up with her until 1.45am when I got up.
Tomorrow (technically today) = I'm going to get a different forumula to try, plus investigate some colic solutions, and maybe even oral thrush?!
Hope you all have a lovely weekend!!
Hi everyone, thought I'd drop in and introduce myself to those who don't know me and say 'hi' to those that do! My little man Kieran was born on Wednesday night (31st October) weighing a big 4020g. He was 5 days late and born a day after his brother's 3rd birthday (a close call!). He is gorgeous and feeding really well. My milk came in last night (about 48 hours after birth) so I'm feeling a bit 'full', but I'm glad I seem to be working!
I look forward to getting to know everyone and their bubs, congratulations to everyone here!
Trish
Thanks everyone. Seeing GP this morning anyways cause my C-sec scar is weaping, which isn't good.
Viv, I agree with the others, As if you'd be a bad mummy for putting James in his own room! All round it would probably make your family happier with you getting a bit more quality sleep!
Amelia, like the other's have said you have to alternate breasts.
Celtic, If your antibiotics say not to breastfeed whilst on them, it also means you can't give Ryan EBM... probably because the antibiotics are passing through your milk.
Trish - YAY for your little man Kieran! Congratulations and well done! X
I expressed for 24hrs and got 160mls out every 3 hours... Ro will drink 120-130mls each feed. BUT now I am on antibiotics for mastitis I have noticed my breasts don't seem to be as full? Has anyone else been on anti's for mastitis and effected their supply? It only really started yesterday evening, so hopefully it was just a one off!
Spent my first night alone last night... Daniel went back to work yesterday. I survived! She was a good girl, except for some supply issues during the night. Danny won't be home until the end of next week - but his Mum is coming on Monday to stay until Danny gets back.
BTW - I know I haven't posted in here for awhile - been so busy - but last time I said I was worried about trooping out? That day my middy suggested mum and Danny take me out that day and sit and have a coffee and have a look around etc. and have a bit of a trial run and if Ro cries, get the breast out! So we did, they made me lift the pram in and out of the 4wd and set it up and put Ro in and out of the car... soon as we made it to the shopping centre Ro cried for boob and so i plonked my butt in one of those lounges in the middle of the shopping centre and covered myself up with a muslim wrap and put Rochelle on the boobie... once we were all settled - we just continued what we were doing while she was on the breast. I was very proud and found that most people would look at me and smile... like they knew a little secret? Since then we have been out a couple of times! Even just Ro and I yesterday!
I was just thinking (randomly) when you have a c/s, how is the placenta birthed? Through the incision?
Sorry if my post is a bit self absorbed! But I have to go because Ro and I are about to jump in the bath. I'll be back later. Hope everyones well and cuddles to all!
with bf - i alternate sides each feed, unless he only did a charity feed the last time. he's such a big drainer that it would be relatively pointless to start on the side i finished on.
ruined my top out in public yesterday. noice look that milky front. luckily it was a patterned top so it could blend a little. *shame*
how long does it take for the engorgement thing to settle down?
catherine... we must have been posting at the same time. with a c/s they take everything out through the incision. there's a lot of rummaging and fishing around, and then suction. of course i wasn't allowed to watch it but that is pretty much the deal. i still get the pleasure of lochia though... sigh. when is that **** going to end!!
i had to flop a boob in the dr's waiting room the other day. quite weird doing that for the first time but in the end, the boy has as much right to eat as anyone else and i don't mind. i've also fed him in the car a couple of times. muslin wraps come in handy, huh? not that i really care who sees my tatas these days... all my dignity was left at the hospital with the catheter and giant pads.
also: today's question - how is everyone's husbands and partners going? dh has been a pillar of strength for me thus far but finally just had a massive meltdown this morning. he actually let it all out, how traumatic and horrible he found the birth, how he feels bad that i have this huge scar (i don't care about that scar at all) and that it's his fault, how no one cares about the dads and that he misses me... and that he never wants to go through this again.
i was happy that he could finally admit that it was a horrible birth experience and that it's ok to feel traumatised watching the person you love go through that, knowing you can do nothing to help. i just wondered how everyone else's SOs were holding up through it all?? is there a way to find a dad's group? i would like him to be able to talk to other dads who are going through the same thing, in that blokey way.
CatherineL-yes I'm EBM and washing it down the sink, just trying to get my supply back up if I can for when I'm off the antibiotics. My MCHN said to feed him anyway because the antibiotics "won't hurt him" but I said I wasn't comfortable with it but they wouldn't let me hire a pump just as my milk started to come back so went and bought a little hand one. Was just wondering if after I was off the antibiotics if I still wasn't making much if I could EBM and put it in with the formula instead of giving him the dregs of my minute boobie supply and then a FF.
Congrats on your outing out :-) I've taken Ryan out a few times luckily by the time I drag my sorry little hiney out of bed and have a shower and get changed Ryan wants food before we go out so sleeps pretty much the whole time and I can't walk around for more than two hours without pain so we're back home intime for another bottle and bum change. It was daunting the first time I was expecting him to scream and everyone to look and think "what a awful mum can't keep her kid under control" but nope not at all.
How is the mastitis feeling? Are your boobs feeling a little less sore? How's feeding going now?
Anyone else still have any brownish bleeding from birth? Mines still going supposedly you can have it for upto 6 weeks after birth?
hey just quick one! these drops infacol(sp) arethey for reflux? If they are there is a great natural one called mariners my sil used it on both her boys and it worked wonders! its an austtralian owned and made which is great!
welcome to our new mummies and bubbies too! have to go feed the man! x
Amber - Infacol is for wind... but they are made in Australia! LOL...
Celtic, AH! I see... I was confused there... :D I wouldn't think you could mix them together... only because I personally wouldn't like the taste of it I wouldn't think and therefore wouldn't give it to my baby, but I'm no expert on these things. I'm sure the more you pump the more your supply you will gain and you might even gain enough to supply him his whole dinner with EBM? Mastitis is still ouchy... still having lots of shooting and burning pains - But getting Ro to the boob much easier thankfully. A little achey all over... but I know it could have gotten allot more severe!
This week has been a bit of a mess... not only did I develop mastitis and thrush but our laptop that we paid over 3K for ***** itself... we rang up about it because it has warranty and they reckon it's the hard drive and they need to replace it... Normally we wouldn't be so worked up about it, but all of our wedding pics are on there and more importantly all of Rochelle's photo's... especially the special ones of just as she was born and me in labor and us in hossy etc. How sad... We only have the few of each occasion on facebook - lucky we have those atleast!
Nother question... Is it Ok for me to head back to the gym now? I'm more than happy with my weight... I can't believe how flat my tummy is after having a baby, but i'm lacking abs and muscle. Plus I just love gym... It's something I can do for me!
ETA - Aside from the BF issues we've been having, I feel like I have had it easy out... My lochia is just about gone... I've been wearing panty liners for the last few days, it's that light! I thought I'd bleed for 6 weeks after birth...
Just a quick hello!!
Catherine - they usually recommend you wait until your 6-week check and get the aok from the Dr before you start serious exercise again... if you want to start earlier you need to go see your Dr and get the ok!
DH = he has his moments when I think he is coping wonderfully and he his being a wonderful support, then after a night like last night he is a mess today and thinks he is a failure - so I am trying very hard to reassure him!
Anyways - taking Kaylee down for a visit to mums and giving DH a break! So better get moving :)
Catherine- like Viv said witht he c/s they take it out through your incision once bub is out.
I actually asked to look at the placenta this time because i always wondered what mine looked like and missed out last time. Its not a very nice feeling because they rummage around inside you and you can feel all the tugging and hear everything just cant feel the pain or see it..... i felt very uneasy through the whole procedure, something i cannot even recall last time around.
Thats great you had a good outing and bf went well whilst out!
My dh has gone to a wedding. i could have gone but didnt feel up to it. He is staying at a friends the night so we dropped Nix to my parents and its just me and Tyron for the next 24hrs!
DH i dunno how he is handling it, good in one way but not in another. he goes back to work on monday and i think he cant wait! he has had enough of washing, vacuuming, pooey nappies and tantrums in the last 3 weeks!
Thanks Peta, sucks bout the exercise... Might go back after my mastitis has cleared up a bit because I could just see him saying no because of my mastitis and that I should be resting until it's gone. I hope you enjoy your outting! :)
Nickers and VIv... thanks for the info RE: Placenta... I definately can't imagine it being a nice feeling... But it's pretty yucky vaginally too... They had to pull mine away from my uterus and the feeling was horrible... just pulling on that cord! I was worried they were gonna pull my whole uterus out. The feeling of it coming out was disgusting... gives me the heebyjebbies just thinking about it! Your right Nic, how feral looking is the actual placenta... and how massive is it? Apparently mine was really raggerty looking... but I don't know how much nicer it could look and how people could eat it! YUCK!... No offence if anyone did actually eat it here...
You mean you didn't have placenta lasagne for tea? LOL aww yuck no sorry I couldn't do it! I had the dr's ask me if I wanted to eat it or bury it under a tree I thought 'what the hell for?'. It looks pretty yuck they held it up for me and wobbled it around *shudders* I'm sorry I know it's very important and kept Ryan fed and alive but it's jobs done now!
I'm glad you caught the mastitis pretty early I hear it can get really really bad if you just leave it. I'd like to be able to EBM to a point that I could express all his feeds don't really have any confidence it's going to happen though.
I got to go to the shops by myself today!! Shopping is so much easier without trying to wiggle bubs about and keep Daddy out of the chips and chocolate isle!! I swear we spend an extra $100 on junk when he's with me!
As for the gym I was told to wait till my 6week check and that if I felt the need to exercise to go for gentle walks around the block as the last thing you want to do is overextend yourself and still have a bubby to look after. Each person is different and heals differently though so definately check with your dr if you feel ready :)
LOL - Embarassing enough... My Mum actually asked to keep it... from the other side of the room I yelled, 'NOOOO, YOU ARE NOT KEEPING MY PLACENTA!' Everyone just laughed... But my Mum was serious... But it was pretty kool to see and the middies actually held it up and showed us how it's positioned in the uterus and held it so the membranes fell down around it and we could see how it all came together.. I never knew that the membranes that held the water in were actally attached to the placenta... I'm not sure how I thought it all to be, but I never imagined the membranes to look like that either. I suppose I imagined a clear bag holding it all together?
Lauren, Don't give up! I hear women that have 8 month olds relactate successfully! I'm sure there is lots of hope for you yet! Maybe do some research into increasing your supply? I know there are things Drs can prescribe to help you increase your supply if that's what you want.
Can't believe I have to wait another 4-5weeks before I can gym? I am definately going to see my GP just incase he says I can go sooner... I mean I had a pretty uneventful birth and it would prolly be a different story if I had tears etc.
Have fun shopping... I gotta go.. Can hear Rochelle stirring.
catherine - just remember that you're still full of relaxin and other hormones that make you feel like spaghetti. it might be too easy for you to injure yourself.
lucky you to be down to liners. mine is still annoying. not on maternity pads now but it's still not exactly pleasant.
how do you tell mastitis from just general engorgement?
Very true Viv... didn't think of that - but I was just thinking, I don't really want to leave Rochelle in the creche at her age.. I'd hate for her to catch something nasty! And mastitis is burning, shooting, throbbing pain, red patches and also feel achey like you have the flu. That's what mine was like anyway... and you can also have lumps etc. I didn't have any but my boobs were just like rocks. When I was engorged, my MW told me to take Voltaren... OMG, it helped so much! When I took them, my boobs were still really full and big, just not rock hard and aching!
Hey everyone! Just popping in quickly to say hi, glad everyone is doing well with their bubs! Will come back tonight for more pesonals.
LOL Celtic - placenta lasagne. I caught a look at mine in the dish. The middie did ask if I wanted to examine it. I can just imagine taking it home, planting it in the backyard, and then my dogs digging it up, rolling in it and then bringing it inside. Eeewww....
Have started to hurt in the vg area again and the lochia is getting heavy again. Is this normal at 7 days post delivery? I have been really trying to do my pelvic floor exercises so I don't know if the discomfort is from that or from the uterus shrinking.
Well this time last week I was in active labour. Can't believe what a long but amazing week it has been. Our lives have completely changed.
DH has been amazing. He did admit that he had a bit of a teary on one of his short visits home from the hospital. Having said that DH is home with me for another 5 weeks so I am sure we will have our moments.
saffi - it should be getting progressively lighter and easier to manage. occasionally i will have a day that's moderately heavier than the day before but as long as it tapers off again it's normal. i checked with the ob in hosp and she said that some days would be more than others.
i would be concerned about pain and considerably more bleeding as a sign of infection. keep an eye on it.
on another note...
i've been out of the house twice this week and i've got a taste for it!!! i'm like one of those sheep dogs... now i'm looking for any excuse to get dh to take me out (not allowed to drive).
we're going for a walk along the beach esplanade thingo this morning. heh. pity gigantor is asleep in his cot. treachery... how to get him up without waking him up.... *ponders*
where's bel (goldilocks)?
:confetti:Happy birthday Kim!!!!!!:confetti:
Happy Bithday Kim :D
Love the avvie Amber :)
saffi- I was told by the hospital between days 7-14 (so wk 2) you can have a secondary...pv...oh damn can't remember what she said pvh or pvp or something, anyway they said it was normal as I got renewed red bleeding and was passing lots of little clots but they said to go to my gp asap he felt my uterus to make sure there was no lumps and gave me antibiotics to prevent infection and also because my stitches were bleeding pretty bad and my bits were swollen and sore and a bit pong (sorry for the tmi)
Saffi with Chelsea all my bleeding stopped by day 10....and then maybe a week later it came back heavier then i could have imagined. But all normal.
This time i feel as if im never gunna stop and its driving me mental!!
Thanks for the birthday wishes. My 2 girls let me have sleep ins. Jasmine woke at 7.50 and Chelsea only just woke at 10.30!!!
happy birthday Kim! what a ncie pressie from the girls letting you sleep in!!
Amber lovely avater!
Saffi- lol my dogs would do the same thing if we buried anything in the back yard!
Dh has just arrived home as he had the wedding yesterday and stayed at his friends close by.
Tyron & I had a nice bath together yesterday, i let him lay on my chest and he even had a few licks around my breasts. But next fee same story doesnt want a bar of it.
I spent half the night crying because i just want it to work out but am exhausted trying....
so off again to express, if anything atleast when that dies down i have a truck load of supply to keep him going for a while.
ETA: whoo hoo look at my avater!! Bath from my June buddies did a fantastic job creating it!
Wow...i never noticed the av's....Very nice Nic and Amber :D
I should have my new one soonish!
Is it ok to have a bath if you're still a little bleedy with stitches? I didn't think you could have a bath would of been soo nice on my tailbone when it was killin me lol
happy birthday kim! What a busy time of year for your family, october bubby, mum then nov bub :)
Hi everyone,
I can now officially join you guys, my little girl Tahlia Rose was born on 31/10, so we just made it! Have just come home from hospital today, spent the last 2 nights at the Soffitel which was wonderful. Was going to try and catch up with everyones stories from here quickly, but I dont think thats going to happen cause there is so much to read! Will have to come back later when I have more time
Need to go and do some washing while Tahlia is asleep, be back later
Ok quick question cos I'm supposed to be doing uni work - eeek have to go to uni 3 days this week!!!!
Anyway how do I get my avatar changed - I would like one of those scenery ones like Mo and Amber have - by the way very noice!!!!
I swear I'll come back to catch up when this hectic week is long gone...........................
Happy Birthday Kim!!!! :happybirthday:
hello everyone
im alowed to be here too!! lachlan ronald was born on the 31/10. i am so stoked he is so beautiful and i dont think anyone could have told me i woud feel like this:) (i cry with love and happiness when i look at him)
had a WONDERFUL birth experience, only used gas and lots of rocking. was very long though, contractions started early monday morning, and stayed on irregular, went to hosp tuesday night and was 4cm dilated, went back to hosp wednesday morning, was 8cm dilated but stayed around there until 1.30 when they broke my water, started pushing at 4.20, lachlan had the cord wrapped twice around his neck(they couldnt flick it off they actually had to cut it off) so i had to get him outta there fast instead of taking my time and i received a few 2nd degree tears and he was born at 4.42. was an absolutley amazing experience!
so cant wait to settle in and chat with you ladies:)
Welcome Kate and Kellie!!
Ursula i just emailed Kathryn asking for a new av....
Hi Ladies
Happy birthday Kim!!
Thanks for the advice re bleeding. Seems to have settled today and I have been easing up on the Pelvic Floor exercises so maybe it was because of that. Will keep an eye on it 'tho.
Kellie - my mum is from Melbourne and said that Francis Perry send their postnatal ladies to the Sofitel. Very nice. Sad tho that it is cheaper for the hospital to have a floor of a hotel than their own rooms, or is it because there aren't enough beds?
Lochie's other grandparents came to visit today. FIL spent the day with DH doing minor odd jobs around the house while MIL just sat on the couch watching me BF. I was so annoyed, she could at least have offered to do something. Just p&*%ed off as my mum would be offering to do something even if I had nothing for her to do.
Dogs are home now and it is interesting to see how they are reacting to bubs. How has everyone else's pets reacted to the new addition?
congrats kate. i saw his pics on facebook. what a little cutie-pants. the pheromones the baby releases for the first few days are off the chain. it's a pity they stop.
for the rest of the buddies... what do you do for a newborn with a cold? i'm pretty sure james picked up a bug at the doctor's surgery (oh the irony). he has runny eyes, sneezy, clear snot and is a bit miserable... what can i do? aside from bf as much as poss and cuddles? when does it get dangerous? why the hell do we always pick up germs from the doctor? gah.
happy birthday, kim. :confetti: 25... ya old tart... ;-)
saffi - MILs are a pain in the a$$. mine phoned today when the baby and i were trying to sleep.... and why?? to talk crap. personally, i could fancy a few nights at the sofitel, or any tel for that matter.
just uploaded pics onto my gallery here... :) how is everyone doin
Hapy birthday Kimbaz. Half way to 50! ;)
Sorry, not too sure on the cold, although my SIL recommended putting EMB up the snoz to clear it. Just using a little eye dropper. Apparently clears the nose........havn't tried it though. anyone heard of this?
Can't really remember what i've just read......
L and i went to a hens night last night. She was a champ, slept in the sling the whole night. Meant i could keep tabs on her, also keep my drunk friends from holding her!
We were all given ferral name tags such as "slapper" "horn bag" etc etc. Idea was you had to use those names or skull. (No probs skulling my lemon lime and bitters!)
L got one too..........."2 pot screamer!" :cryinglaugh:
She's a bit unsettled today.......squarking a bit, infact, speak of the devil. Better go!
posted a couple of photos of Lochie in photo gallery if anyone is interested
great Lachlan pics girls!!
Saffi how cute is Lochie in those overalls oh!
Kate- how good do you look when leaving hospital wow!
well today is D day, DH gone back to work so im on my own! so far so good lol has only been 1 hr!
I got up and had a shower before he left cause otherwise i may not get out through out the day.
Viv- oh poor James if he does have a cold. Just keep an eye on his temperature make sure it doesnt go up too high. As for his nose if u think its getting clogged u can buy the fess little noses (not sure what age u can use the drops from) but it also comes with a little applicator. not that pleaseant but it sucks out the snot! It really helps though if he is having trouble breathing from boogies in his nose.
ROFL Ange! Your a cracker!! Always make laugh...
Vivienne, I know there is this product called 'fess' for snotty noses... maybe google it? Otherwise if it were me, I'd just make sure his temp didn't go over 37.5 and his still having wet nappies. Unless of course he got violently ill or unsettled.
ETA - SNAP Nic!
ETA 2 - HEY!!! How come I'm the only one with a porka girl! Unfairness... Rochelle is upset because she feels like she's a loner, like in the out crowd at school! I want a dainty baby too....
