HI Ladies,
Had a blackout and storms so have been off puter for a couple of days.
All well here, Amara is sleeping pretty well, seems to have gone to having one booby most of the time though. When she has 2 she usually erupts with a massive spew a few minutes later - charming.
Here unsettled period is now 8pm until midnight, but we have still managed not to give her a dummy. We did at first and the then the attachment went to hell so we stopped it. Hoping now we won't need it. If we can get to the magic 6 weeks without it then I think we'll be good.
Welcome to new Octo baby people & congrats.
Happy Birthday for yesterday KIm! Hope you were spoilt appropriately :)
Going to our first baby clinic visit tomorrow, will be interesting to see her weight.
Viv - When Eliza had snot I used saline and a syringe. I bought the saline in the little vials from the chemist. I also did have one called Physiomer, it is a sprayer like Fess. Poor bubba. Eliza has started sneezing today - thankyou preschool! So hoping it does not turn into a cold as she is all over Amara.
Hugs,
-
hi girls!
Welcome to Kellied and Tahlia and Misskate and Laclan! Will have to have a squiz of the pics!
Ange love the name they gave lu! how cute!
Saffi our 4 legged baby is pretty good with Myles! He knew the day we came home that something was different! But we just ket him have a sniff and took him into Myles room so He could smell it, and he has been fine!
Viv I hope James is better soon!
Nic good luck for your first day home alone!
Leah good luck at the clinic!
Hello to all the other mummas and bubbas!
Not much happening here its been really hot and uncomfortable, so Myles has been a little unsettled! Taking him to be weighed again today hopefully he has put on weight!
Question when do you go up a size in nappies? Im sure he still fits the newborns but just need to know if i go on weight or how they fit!
Anyway have to go feed the man! xo
-
well Tyron is about 3.8-3.9kg and im just about to go to the next size nappies.
Huggies and a few other brands have a 4-8kg range. and Tyron has been leaking through the newborns for a few weeks now so trying the next size up.
dh tried to return the 2 x boxes to coles yesterday and cause i did the order online they said i need to go through that. so rung them thismorning and they said no coles should have taken them back for me grrrr.... so i put a coles online order through today and when the del man comes will pick them up and then credit my acct. but cant have it credited first. lots of mucking around i dont often do the online thing only trialled it that once!
catherine- how big is rochelle now?!
when Nix was born i always wanted a bigger baby cause i got sick of ppl telling me how small he was, now i have a bigger baby i wish i had a littler one lol cause i know how quick they grow!
Tyron is wearing and almost out of some of Nixon's clothes that he was wearing at 3months!
-
Kim love the new avatar!
I love mine too wish i was looking that hot at the moment! haha!
Nic i might go to the shops and look for the next size? Its so hard when your new to this!
-
morning ladies
just popping into say hello,
saffi, lachlan is beautiful, and what a great choice of name!:)
-
i have to share with someone.............
Nipple started leaking. Have run out of breast pads so popped in a panty liner....... ah classy! :cryinglaugh:
-
Have been meaning to say for those ladies talking about foam wedges......
Instead of a wedge under the matress, you can prop two of the cot legs up on bricks/books/wood...... just another idea. ;)

Hi everyone,
Kim - Sorry I missed your birthday yesterday, I was offline all day. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! A bit late, but thought I'd wish you one anyway! I hope you got some great pressies.
Nic - How is your day going without DH home? I wonder how I will cope with the two boys when DH goes back.
My DS Joel is not coping all that well with the changes at the moment. He is feeling a bit insecure and is extra sensitive over little things. He is also being deliberately naughty at times just to get our attention. I hope this doesn't last long! He adores his little bro though.
We had a midwife visit this morning and Kieran had put on 40g since Friday which she said was great. It doesn't sound like much though does it?! Oh well, it is a relief to know he is doing so well.
-
Hi Everyone,
Just uploaded some pics of Tahlia to my gallery, so check em out if your interested
Saffi - the soffitel was wonderful, so much more relaxing and peaceful than the hospital where you could hear babies crying, nurses bells ringing and ambulances all night! I'm glad we got to go there! And there were always 2 midwives on for about 10 patients, so they could spend a bit more time with you when you needed them, which I did alot! Gorgeous pics of your bub by the way!
misskate - great pics too, what a cutie!
For those of you that are breast feeding, how many feeds do you do in a 24 hour period? and how long does your bub spending actually sucking at each feed?
-
^^^ quality improvisation, ange.
i spoke to the middy re: cold and she said to put his little bed on an incline. we are using his stroller bassinet and it seems to be working so the poor little d00d can get some sleep.
i'm getting that suctiony thing for the nose... sigh.
in other news.. i actually feel really good this afternoon, like, eerily good. my iron has resurrected 25 points up to 105, so we're winning.
dh goes back to work on wednesday... so i'm making use of him now.
nickers... how did your first day flying solo pan out for you?
where's that wiley ursula? and still no bel?
-
Hey all!
Trish - I know exactly what you mean! My DS is becoming a bit of a handful at the moment too. He is great with Chelsea - loves to cuddle her and be near her etc, but in other ways is becoming a little s*%&! LOL. He now refuses to have his daytime sleep! Will just stand in his cot for half an hour and scream (and I mean scream!) and he is only 22 months old! He is starting to also do little naughty things to get attention! It is going to be so hard when DH goes back to work, cause I used to use his hour and a half sleep every day to actually get things done! Plus he can be so exhausting when he is just up and running around ALL day!
I only hope that they grow out of it! Hopefully it will just take a few weeks for them to get used to the idea that the baby isnt going away, and then things might get better???? Please tell me that this is the case!!!

Hello Ladies!
I'm feeling very tired today - more so than other days :(
We went to mothers group today run by our child health nurse, was really good to meet other 'new' mums in my area and interesting etc... the group runs for 5-weeks, then hopefully we will continue to meet or hope to at least make friends with some local mums, with bubs around the same age as Kaylee!!
I read through all the posts this morning, but ran out of time to post... there was somethings I was going to say - will skim through again and see if I can remember :)!
Catherine - what about just getting out and walking with Rochelle in the pram for now, and when you get the aok you could do some resistance style exercises at home when she is sleeping or if she is awake = use her as a weight!! Or maybe exercise DVDs?? I'm thinking of getting some Pilates ones to try out... as exercising at home is def going to be easier and cheaper!! Just need to get motivated.
Oh, :confetti:HAPPY BIRTHDAY KIM:dance: for yesterday, sorry I missed it... Hope you had a FAB day!!
Bleeding - I was told some women bleed for up to 6-weeks. My bleeding was very light and stopped and started again twice... totally stopped now, and have the mucous like what you get when ovulating = wondered if I could be ovulating again so soon! I'm not breastfeeding, so is possible I guess?!
Bathing and bleeding stitches - remember reading someone asking about this, but not sure who sorry... depends how bad, but a bath with sea salt and nothing else in it can help with the healing process and to avoid infection! Def wouldn't put any soaps or bath stuff in it tho!!
Welcome and congratulations to all the mummies who have just joined us :)!!
LOL Ange re the liner!! I have a whole box of breast pads, no use to me if anyone wants them?!
Anyways - totally exhausted today... would love a sleep - but Kaylee refusing to go down again!! Spoke to CHN and we def think Kaylee has colic (treating with Brauer Colic Relief and changed formula = think it is helping?), and she has oral thrush, which we are also treating with stuff the chemist gave me. DH should be home in about 30-mins = can't wait!!
-
OOHHH I'm here - unfortuantely I have to go to uni this week for 3 days and have 5 assignments due in two weeks..........I'm pulling my hair out.
Welcome to all the new mums and bubs.......will check out photos in spare minute.
Peta what formula did you change too? We've switched to S26 but starting yesterday Maddison is now spewing more often and we got 2 hours sleep last night cos she was in so much pain but just wouldn't burp. I rang the midwives at the clinic and they said it sounded like colic so told me to burp her heaps throughout the day even when not feeding, to do back massage when she is resting on a pillow or over my leg - so far today has been better.
Ange - the panty liner!!!!! Inventive thinking :clapping:
Nic - how did your day at home go?
Viv - how's James and his cold, hope he gets better for you soon. Think I might invest in a nose suction thingy just in case...
Hi to everyone I haven't mentioned - not beign rude but need to do dinner and get back to research for assignments.......................
-
Kellie - Kieran has been feeding around every 2 1/2 - 3 hours so we are having about 8 - 10 feeds per day. I try to get him to feed for a minimum of 15 minutes per side, so he usually feeds for 30 - 40 minutes in total. How are you going with feeds?
Becky - I hope our boys settle down for us both! It isn't fun when you're feeling tired and cranky.
I feel so tired today! I think all the lack of sleep has finally caught up with me and I can't wait to go to bed. Unfortunately Kieran is having trouble with his little digestive system as his poos change to that yellow colour, so he has been pretty unsettled. I'm sure this is normal, but it is not fun to see him so uncomfortable :( .
-
Actually my first day at home solo was quiet alright! but i know they wont always be so easy lol.
only once i had the two of them going together, Tyron woke for a feed and Nixon did a poo, ahd to change him b4 i could feed Tyron so he wasn't too happy.
My mum come over and vacuumed the house for me and wiped out my fridge!
I had been complaining of a strange odur coming from the fridge for over a week. couldnt for the life of me figure out what it was. today we finally found, the wine cask i had in the fridge dh must have put some meat next to it and it dripped or something into the cardboard.
THANK GOD it was driving me insane every time i opened the fridge! so i threw out several possible suspects which turns out they were innocent!
Trish & Becky- uh huh totally agree on the older sibling troubles. but seriously in the last 3-4 days Nixon has started settleing back into himself. The first week he was horrid, just throwing wobblies all the time, very sooky, getting into EVERYTHING and just wanting attention. so i hope your boys come around soon and realise these bubs are here to stay!
yeah where is belle she hasnt been in here for a while?
-
Trish - I often have to wake her for feeds, which I do between 3 and 4 hours, and when she does feed, she is only actively sucking for about 20 minutes... she falls asleep constantly so this sometimes takes 1.5 hours to get 20 mins sucking.... I dont know what to do
-
Thanks Nickers - There is light at the end of the tunnel!!! LOL. The most frustrating part for me is that he wont have his daytime sleep! Doesnt even seem to need it! He really doesnt get tired in the day anymore (I dont know if he is just getting good at fighting it or what?). I miss my hour or two of quiet time!!!! Grr. Luckily Chels is such a good baby! (Fingers crossed that doesnt change!)
-
*Puts hand up for misbehaving child too* Argh... Chelsea is a horror too!! Refusign feeds and just being a royal PITA. But love her to death all the same.
I hate night times.. Jasmine refuses to sleep and does her wingey cries.
Stressed outta my mind...all i do is cry...sometimes for no reason.
-
It will get better Kim!
KellieD- like i said in the thread you posted. I had to wake L all the time for feeds and she was the same, it took 40mins per side to feed her. So by the time i finished feeding her and put her down i had about an hour and a half before i had to wake her again for another feed. It is exhausting, but she will become more alert! It will get easier. (She now feeds in about 30min total, that is both sides! piggy)
Ursula- no rest for the wicked hey?! How does maddi go at uni? She learning loads? ;)
Nickers- how's the boob attchment feeding thingi going? you having any luck?
L had a bath tonight, i was drying her and she got a bit squarky, so i picked her up and she peed all over me! That'll teach me.
Any hot tips for the melb cup ladies?
-
Trish, Eliza is also not handling things too well yet. She is 3 and 3 months old. Apparently it takes a few months. Lots of naughtiness and crying and pretending to be a baby.
Must go and feed Booby Piglet..night all
-
Went to the MCHN today. L has put on 160gr on top of his birth weight. I am so relieved as I wasn't confident he was getting enough food. Seems he is. He is demand feeding so while it does go up to 3 hours between some feeds, others are more frequent. Nurse gave me the ok to express. We are so pleased as it means DH can do some feeds. Got a decent amount from one bb when I expressed earlier today.
Had a ^&% night sleep so DH is on duty tonight. L usually sleeps straight through from his last feed so I will try to stay up late enough to do that.
L peed on himself tonight. Got up to his face and on his chest. Had to laugh as it is usually the nappy changer that cops it.
-
Just a quickie - off to bed for some zzz before the night...
Ursula - after much discussion with a friend of mine, and reading thru the threads on here I decided to try Heinz Nuture (regular, not gold)... she has been pretty good, until this arvo when she screamed! No spews at all!!
-
the bf question...
call me a massive geek, but i really liked the chart they had at the hospital for feeds etc so i have a little notebook that i write down his feeding, pooing and sleeping patterns in. this is what becomes of lawyers who have babies... directing the nerding instinct to the calf.
he sleeps in 2.5 or 3 hour blocks and will feed for 10-15 minutes on one boob each cycle. he is a big guzzler so he manages to scrounge a fair amount in that time. if he fed for 40 minutes like falguni he would explode ...lol.
because he had a cold he did a big 30 minute feed yesterday. middy says the breast milk will sort him out so i'm feeding him as much as poss at the mo.
when he gets the hiccups (quite regularly) i will put him back on the boob for 3-4 minutes to get rid of them.
he's like a rolling code alarm... i seem to have him figured out today, then tomorrow he clicks over to a whole new code and i'm stuffed.
my little bug. so cute.
-
well it sounds like all the mummys with other children are going through the same thing.
Im sorry you are all going through it but it does give me some releif to know its not just my child thats turned into a monster! a couple of things my sis told me (she has 18m gap also) try getting the elder child more involved so he/she feels like their helping. Like maybe (if a girl) buy a doll that can be fed a bottle or change a nappy. I was thinking of buying Nixon a teddy bear that he can feed so he can sit next to me and feed his teddy when i feed Nix!
Or find something that really gets their mind going, Nix LOVES wiggles so ive put that on when trying to feed, or got out his building blovks because that keeps him very occupied.
Or even throughout the day when unpacking the dishwasher or folding clothes (even though they prob make more work) let them help.
Ange- unfortunatley we are no better off here re: feeding. Ive stopped trying as many feed times its just to draining, exhausting and frustrating to try every single time. I was chatting with the LC from hosp yesterday and just said to her i really dont think i can keep trying. But then when a feed comes around i go "oh maybe give it a go cause this might be his turn around!" Im a glutten for punishment because i only end up dissapointed when the same thing happens. As the LC said i need to start enjoying my baby instead of cringing etc every feed time.
Still expressing and hoping by the time i start to dwindle it down i have enough for a whole months supply, that will be an acheivement in itself and atleast one positive can come out this experience.
Kim- Jas is still getting used to things, your hormones are still going a wall so try not to beat yourself up. I know what u mean though i spent half my day on Saturday crying over things when i should have been enjoying the time i had alone just me and Ty.
Ty kept me up a good amount of the night also. DH gave him his last night feed (there is one positive about the bottle!) at 10.30pm, he woke at 1.30am i got everything ready and he fell back asleep (on me though) so we slept together till 3am fed etc but didnt settle well after it.
Does anyone else find you put bub down finsih up, turn off the lights lay down and then he wakes up????? this just kept on happening last night i was getting very over it by 5am!
Saffi- thats great re; Lachlans weight gain!
Q for those bottle feeding: How long does bub take to drink the bottle? Ty seems to guzzle so quickly, i pull him up 3 times for a burp but i think cause he drinks it so quick this might be affected his unsettleness after the feed. If he was on the boob im sure he'd be taking 30min plus but the bottle its gone in 10. Ive just started adding the thickener to the EBM which has made a SLIGHT improvement. not a lot of difference though.
-
Sounds like there are a few of us having fun with the older child not adjusting so well. It's nice to know it will get better soon! Joel is actually behaving fairly normally today, I think he is used to his daddy being home now and is feeling a bit more secure. I may not be saying this by the end of the day though!
I rang the maternal child health line this morning because I was up all night with Kieran and he has been really unsettled since Sunday night. His tummy seems to be in a fair bit of pain and he cries heaps before a burp, spew or poo (sorry, that sounds so gross!). He wants to be held upright a lot. I was up all night re-settling him between feeds which drove me crazy. This morning I just put him on my chest at 6:30 and lay down and we both went to sleep finally! The nurse I spoke to said he may be feeding too often which is giving him a tummy ache. She said to try and stretch him out to 3 hourly feeds. This will be interesting as he seems to want to feed every 2 1/2 hours, but I will give it a shot. If that's all the problem is I will be very relieved. Ahh, the fun of it all!
-
Kim - I was like that the last couple of days DH was still at home. He went back to work last Thursday and I cried all day Wednesday over nothing!! Hormones still going wild don't help at all.
Sorry to hear about all the little naughty children out there!! I was 7 years old when my lil sis was born and I remember helping mum out alot like just handing her the wipes and the nappy rash cream. Maybe get your little ones to help out in that aspect. I know it might add a bit more time to the whole routine but it might settle them down a bit.
Yesterday was our first outing by ourselves. I had to go to the Dr's cause I have busted the centre of my scar and it is infected! :-'( Considering we went out in the morning....On public transport mind you, I got alot done. Did 3 loads of washing, dusted the lounge, kitchen and dining. Folded a whole queen size beds worth of cloths. And had dinner ready by 6pm instead of 8!! Not having DH around I think is better, I am getting more done....Lol!!
Re: Feeding and Sleep Patterns - I am getting between 4-6 hours out of Rhys. Normally 4-5 during the day and 6-7 at night. Which is a god send I suppose considering what some of you are going through. He was waking every 3 hours up until the weekend.
Trish - Kieran is GORGEOUS and looks so peaceful in that picture!!
I am going to have to return 3 boxes of Huggies Newborn Nappies this weekend and get the Infant size cause my piglet is just about out of them!! He is getting weighed on Friday so it will be good to see what he has put on in two weeks since his last appointment. He was 4580g at his last appt.
Well I am off to have a nap while he is sleeping.....It's raining here, I love sleeping in the rain!!
xxoo
-
Does anyone know where you can get bubs weighed in between maternal health nurse appointments?
-
In Melbourne i am not sure, i know in Sydney some chemists have MW one day every week or fortnight that u can just show up to get them weighed and checked etc.
When i was living in Melb i asked a few of my local chemists but none of them did it, so not sure if they dont do it at all down there or just around where i was looking. Maybe u can even call the MCHN and ask if there is somewhere u can go? i was always told if i was concerned i culd just take Nixon down just for a weigh in too.
Amelia- ouch to your infection.... maybe cause your doing too much! but i know what u mean, stuff just needs to get done hey. and i think im getting more organised since dh is not here.
Melb cup ive backed Purple Moon! amongst a whole heap of other numbers for birthdates etc!
-
Here in Perth, some of the chemists have a nurse or m/w on once a week who does weighing etc... also at my local child health centre they have a free open clinic once a week for a couple of hours - you can just pop in, get your baby weighed and ask any questions you have! I would ask your MHN, I'm sure she could tell you!
Bottle = Kaylee isn't really in a routine, and can take anywhere from 15-mins to a couple of hours of stop-start to finish a bottle depending on how she is feeling and what mood she is in... I find when she guzzles the bottle she does get a lot more wind. The drawn out feed is usually just for her afternoon/early evening feed. She is getting a lot better at feeding and settling within 30-60mins overnight, thankfully!
Though last night around 10.00pmish Kaylee had a very loud, high pitched scream = sounded horrid, like she was in the worst pain ever... eventually I got her to calm down and to sleep. Then she slept from around 11pm - 2.30am.
-
Jasmine is all over the place with feeds. Some days she wont go more then 3 hours...others 6-8 hours. I have always been told not to wake for feeds, so i dont. Unless we have to go out somewhere and i dont want to take a bottle (even tho if things didnt go to plan i still could BF). Takes her about 10-15 minutes to guzzle it all down...2 burps.
Re outtings with bubs.....Jasmine was 1 day old and we were out and about to the shops....i dont like staying home so we are often out and about.
-
Well, I stretched Kieran out for 3 hours (put him in the Baby Bjorn when he woke up and we all went for a walk), I put him in his rocker after his feed and he was perfectly settled for the first time since Sunday night!!! I have just put him down for a nap and hopefully we will have the same success as before. Think I might try get a sleep in too!
