So much to catch up on in here!
Hope everyone had a wonderful first Mother's Day with your bubs!
We spent the day at Werribee Zoo, which was really nice, even though Tahlia fell asleep on the bus tour and missed out on the animals coming up really close to the bus. Later on in the day when we were walking around she was looking at the animals though.... the cheetah come up really close to her (on the other side of a glass window) and she was smiling at it.. so cute. I'll have to put some pics up on FB
Kim - Congrats!
Willow - hope you had a great birthday
Alz - sorry to hear about your horrible day
Hope everyone else is well and that the bubs are behaving themselves
-
hey all
bit of a marathon post coming up, i think.
so, saturday afternoon dh's phone beeped - turns out a dear friend of ours (aged 29) died on friday night. he was in hospital with pneumonia, they discovered by accident that he had testicular cancer and had one week to live. he didn't even make it another day. worst of worst, his lovely young gf is 6 months UTD and now has to raise that beautiful little boy without a daddy. he was a cool dude and it has just ripped DH to pieces.
saturday night, he downed 3/4 of a bottle of grants, dressed up in the clothes (including coat) that he used to wear out with his mate back in those days, and hung out at the letterbox in the dark, drinking their scotch, smoking their cigars under the stars. i just went in and out to check on him but it was nice for him to give joely a send-off the way he would have wanted.
dh came to bed but lasted about 2 minutes until he hurled up all the scotch (not a big drinker these days). under any other circumstances i'd be dark about my husband having a big p!ssed hurl on mother's day eve, but yanno, i figure, if you can't get thoroughly blind and hurl when i good friend dies, when can you?? i put him in the shower and that was that.
mother's day wasn't exactly any fun because of the situation. that said, james bought me some new walking shoes so i can take him for faster walks, and a new cashmer jumper and pashmina for winter. dh made me french toast with berry compote
then later i made him a fry-up because you can imagine how rank he was feeling after the scotch incident.
james made me a huge card. he is very good with textas... amazing actually. i thought he'd be flat out doing anything but he scrawled all over it, and himself, and his suit.
he hates real food, btw. he loves cereal and anything to do with EBM but despises all recommended foods for kiddies his age. meh.
his new move is 'downward facing dog'. he does it all the time. still does the dead-leg crawl but it won't be long. i think he's sleeping better for having cracked at least a partial crawl. i think it was doing his head in.
his nap structure has changed. he does 3 hours awake, 2 hours asleep now, with me occasionally helping him between sleep cycles.
we're working on the night time thing..
hope you all had a great mother's day.
i've got that funeral on friday so i guess i'll just be working myself up for that...

Oh Viv :crying: that is so sad, I am so sorry to hear of the sudden loss of your friend . I have tears in my eyes thinking of him and his family. Life is so unfair...
-
Viv - I'm so sorry to hear of the loss of your friend, that is so sad
-
Yeah so sorry to hear Viv. That must be devestating for you all - especially your hubby. And his poor wife. I feel devestated for her. There would be no worse timing for her - the poor thing. Makes ya think how lucky we are. :(
-
Not good Viv..im sorry for your DH's friend and his partner.
-
Viv - that is just so awful. I am sorry for the loss of your friend and especially for his poor partner. I can't think of anything sadder than to deliver a beautiful baby without his daddy there.
L is a massive fan of the downward facing dog too. Does it all day long. Is getting around though, just found the power cords in the loungeroom so need to get DH to sort that out.
Trish - L's day naps have improved, thank god!! Bit like Viv though, I've had to change our routine a bit. He now only has 2 day sleeps, he was fighting 3 so hard I figured he was trying to tell me something! LOL. I realised that when i was putting him down in the middle of the day he didn't even look tired, I was watching the clock instead of him and it wasn't working out so great. He wakes up about 7.30am, goes back to bed around 9am then sleeps till 11am. He is then awake in the middle part of the day for 3 hours, goes down around 1.30-2pm most days and then sleeps till about 3-3.30pm. He has dinner at 5pm, bath, boobie, then bed at 6pm. So he's averaging about 3.5-4 hours sleep during the day still but only doing it in two blocks of sleep now. He is self settling straight away again, whereas before he would either cry on and off or would lay in his cot talking and playing for about an hour before finally cracking it! Nights are the same, he does anything from 3-5 hours between feeds but I'm still not at the stage where i'm ready to push him to sleep through. I think it won't be long though.
-
So unfair Viv. Too young, too sudden. I can't imagine being in his GF's shoes. A new baby is hard enough, let alone dealing with loosing your partner. Be thinking of you on Friday.
Sleep better here too, thank goodness. Think top teeth were messing with the schedule. can see them but not through yet.
Mothers day was lovely. Facial and pedicure here too. Snap Saffi. was soooooo relaxing.
-
Aw Viv that is so sad :(
To think I just turned 29 myself! Scary
-
OMG Viv - that is so sad.
My Mothers Day card had a little hand print in non-toxic paint. DH had a very anxious 10minutes as he tried to negotiate getting the paint on the card and off L without getting it over everything. Think I am going to keep an ongoing record of his hand prints so I can remember how small he was.
Claire - poor Harry. Glad it wasn't worse, but still.....
Nic - congrats on getting the keys to your house!
Went to visit my friend on Saturday who had a baby boy the week before last. He is a whopping 10lb'er but compared to my hefty boofer now he is so small and light. Have to admit I found myself getting a little bit clucky. Funny, didn't really enjoy L when he was a newborn, but I miss them now.
Happy 7 months Max!
Going to a baby shower next weekend. Anyone got any suggestions on a good, practical gift under $20? Don't want to do clothes.
Check in tomorrow.
-
Viv - That's so sad, it's awful when someone dies so young with a full life ahead of them.
Trish - Thanks for the WB :D
Still no interest in solids here - he does a weird shiver thing if I even offer. He's sucked some sweet pot and puimpkin off his fingers but that was last week sometime. I don't think he's in any rush here - he's still feeding 4 hourly so he's obviously not beginning to feel hungrier yet.
Took Harry to a lovely pediatric acupunturist on Saturday and I have to say there's been a marked improvement - I'm so chuffed for the little man. We go back on Friday.
-
saffi - the best gifts i got were the practical ones like:
1) head buffer for pram/bassinette
2) nuk bath thermometer shaped like a submarine (which he loooooves)
3) muslin wraps

Morning!
K was the grumpiest boy ever yesterday with his cold, the poor thing isn't feeling too well. He's chucking up heaps too. A friend brought her 7.5 month old DS over on Friday and he played with K's toys, the friend then texted me yesterday to say her DS has a runny nose and a case of the runs so I think K may have caught a bug from him.
He's still sleeping well, on Sunday night I put him to bed at 6:45pm after a big day and he slept right through until 5:15am, had a feed and slept until 7am, he must have been tired! I'm sooo looking forward to him dropping his 5am feed, but he is so hungry at that time that I can't see him dropping it any time soon.
Kim - How is Chelsea? Is she still vomitting at night?
Julia - I'm so sorry I missed your birthday last week! Wishing you a belated happy birthday :). Happy 7 months to Max for yesterday too!
alz - Sorry your Mother's Day didn't end well. I hope your DH & Ethan are feeling better. Sounds like they both caught a tummy bug?
Kellie - A day at Werribee Zoo sounds like fun, we still haven't been there yet. Are you going to the BB centre opening?
Willow - Hooray on L's naps improving! There is no chance K could drop a nap yet, I hope he will soon though, it makes it easier to do stuff. I'm taking him to the chiro today so we'll see if he can work some magic!
Ange - Ooh, a facial and pedicure sounds so nice! How is Lu going? Has your eye recovered yet?
Saffi - The hand print card sounds so cute! Joel made me a poster at kinder with his hand-prints on it for Mother's Day, the teacher laminated it and put a cute poem with it. It's so sweet, I'll hold onto it for a keepsake. Re: a present - I was going to suggest a bath thermometer too, otherwise a cute pram toy, they always come in handy!
Claire - I didn't know there were paediatric acupuncturists, what issues made you take Harry there? I'm very interested!
Viv - I hope your DH is recovering a bit after Saturday night. I'm sure Friday is going to be a tough day for everyone. I can't stop thinking about your friend, I just feel so sad.
I hope you all have a great day :)
-
Viv-That's so sad.
I have the icky yucky Flu, I'm hoping M doesn't get it.
Glad everyone had a good mothers day :)
-
Trish Chelsea is ok now...no vomitting but now clingy and cant be left alone. Is even hating FDC at the moment. Cries when i drop her off and cant get in my arms quick enough of an afternoon. Not my lil girl at all!
-
Hi Everyone,
Viv- I am so sorry to hear about your hubby's friend. Scary when you think about how young he was. I am only 25 so it was a reality check for me too. Sending big hugs your way.
Well hubby and bub are still a bit sick and now I have caught the dredded tummy bug. I am not too bad but the whole family is going to the doc this afternoon. I am worried about Ethan as he is not taking his solids or much milk and refuses water too. Fontanel is very soft and he isn't weeing much either. Hope he doesn't have to do a hospital visit to get his fluids up.
Anyway, enough whinging. Take care everyone and hope all you sick mums and bubs feel better soon.
-
Hello Mums and Bubs!!
Been MIA for several months now....thought I'd drop back in and slowly catch up on all the news and events.
Hope everyone is well and look forward to getting to know everyone all over again!
-
Viv my heart and thoughts are with you and your friends family x
Glad to hear everyone had a good mummies day! Not much happening here just plodding along enjoying my little man! I think he is only still 8 kgs! So still tiny! Not much interest in food but we still give hem bits to play and suck on! I think his 2 bottom teeth are ready to come through soon well it looks that way! He has been perfect so far so i really thin the teething necklace worked!
Anyway have a great day xx
-
:hello: *big wave* Hi Ursula! Missed you!
Boomba- tell me more about the amber necklace..... does Myles wear it? is it tight or loose?
-
Yeah Ange he has been wearing since about 3 or 4 months! He doesnt wear when he goes to bed at night but wears it all day! Its loose and just hangs around his neck! He hasnt grabbed at it yet but dont think he will cause he is so used to it! Hope that helps x
-
:welcome: back Ursula.
We had a crummy night here & i think M may be coming down with what i have.
We have a slight cough & sneezing, still eating well but extremely clingy & cranky.
-
how ***** is this:
my MIL won't mind JJ on friday so i can go to the funeral because....
she has a DENTIST appointment???
should my friend have died at a more 'convenient' time? or am i over-reacting?
oh, her solution was to send FIL, 72-year-old, frail diabetic ex-doctor who has held jj once and visited him 3 times... sound good for a baby at stranger-anxiety age?
forgive me for being ratty but that reaaaally makes me want to book my flight to melbourne NOW
dh is VERY upset and is contemplating telling her today that we're leaving, he said this was the last straw for him.
-
Awwww Viv, I can't believe how selfish people can be sometimes
-
That really sucks Viv......You'd think babysitting her grandson and helping you guys out would outrank a dentist appt!
-
Viv - that is *****...you have to go to the dentist - so change your appointment??!!
Went into the chemist today. Lady behind the counter says:
"Ooh, she's a pretty little thing isn't she?"

Me:
"Yeah, HE is"
Not the first time he's been described as 'pretty' either...I don't get it! He's the boofiest baby ever! Ah well, I don't mind having a pretty-boy!
-
Willow - Lol! Oops! Funny but annoying me thinks!
Trish - Harry has eczema, not very bad but it's also around his nappy area and I'm trying to get it cleared up before he really gets into the solids (we have allergies in the family). So I took hin to a chinese medicine lady that specialises in pregnancy and paediatric acupunture. She looked him over and took a full history. It was really interesting to hear the kinds of foods that the chinese believe cause eczema, so needless to say I'm avoiding all of them now.
Ursula - Hiya!!
Viv - You're MIL must be in agony to put herself first??
-
Hi everyone! K is still sick, my friend texted me yesterday to say her DS has a viral infection so it sounds like K has the same thing. He chucks up heaps in the morning and his nose is really blocked up. He is much happier today though after his chiro visit yesterday. He has even had a couple of good naps, I love that chiro!!
I took the boys for a walk to the park earlier to make the most of the beautiful sunny day and when I got back I was ready for a nap! I have been so busy the last couple of days that my body has decided to give up on me today. I went to all this trouble making a nice dinner for friends coming over on Tuesday night, I spent Monday buying food and that night prepping the food (after putting K to bed), Tuesday cooking and then at 3pm DH called me to say dinner is off . I was sooo disappointed after all the effort I went to :(.
Claire - Have you found that the acupuncture and change of diet has worked?
Willow - How could anyone think your little man looks like a girl? I suppose it's a compliment in a way lol! I don't think anyone could mistake K for a girl!!
Ursula - Welcome back, it's great to see you back in here!
Viv - Grrr at your MIL! Do you know what you are going to do with J now?
Mo - Sorry you and Maddi are sick . I hope you feel better soon.
Amber - I should try one of those necklaces, I've heard good things about them! Oh, and I LOVE Myle's new ticker pic, he is such a little poser!
Alz - I hope you are all feeling better. Is Ethan OK?
Kim - I'm glad Chelsea's not vomitting anymore. Hopefully she'll be back to her old self soon.
Have a great night everyone :D
-
Hey all!
We are good here. Chels is loving solids! Only has brekky and dinner at the moment but will eat pretty much anything you give her. Although I did give her some banana tonight and she spat it out and pulled a horrible face! So far, thats the only thing I have found she doesnt like though. Both my babies have little colds at the moment. Nothing major, mostly just runny noses, but god are they sick of me chasing after them with tissues!
Trish - So glad that the chiro seems to be helping with K! I hope his cold clears up soon too!
Willow - Oh I used to get that sometimes with Liam. I know its nothing major but it used to **** me to tears! Dunno why, I just felt like yelling, because he clearly looked like a boy! Grrr.
Ursula - YAY! Welcome back!
Viv - That really sux about your mother in law. What ya going to do now?
Amber - Where do you get these Amber necklaces from? I have always meant to ask you!
Have a good night everyone! We are off to a new Mothers Group tomorrow. Im taking both kids to this one so thats good. Its a range of ages! Cant wait!!
-
claire- just with the allergies i remember one of the girls in my baby thread with Nixon mentioning allergies run in her family too, she did a lot of reseach and reading up and found that leaving solids later down the track can have a similar effect of starting before they are ready? I'm not sure what thats based off but can find out more for u if u like and please don't think im telling you how to mother either it just popped into my head when reading your post. Poor Harry with his exczmea though.
Viv- thats so horrible, im thinking of this poor woman 6months pg how she would cope my god.
but your mil thats pretty shocking, its a funeral for gods sake not a random social gathering u want to attend. If you had to take james would that be an option? i know its not preferance but would it be an option if the alternative was u couldnt go at all?
Trish- Thanks, so far dh has ripped out the entire kitchen, the old carpet and knocked down some walls. we are getting a complete new kitchen, floorborads and carpet, new lighting throughout and repainting througout. There is a bunch more stuff we'd love to do but they are the big things we are wanting to do before moving in. we have about 7 weeks to get all that done before we officially move in.
mum is minding the boys tomorrow and i am going to get dirty and get stuck into something!
becky- hope the new mums group is fun!
p.s happy 7months to my boy!! he had his needles today (i know a month late) went very well so far. had some reactions from his 4month ones so just keping a close eye on things
-
Hi Everyone,
Well we are starting to feel better. Hubby went back to work today after having 3 days off (he said "oh you look really sick. I'd better stay home and look after you"). Go back to work lazy boy. Ethan is doing better too. Still not drinking and eating as usual but is very happy again. I am still feeling sick but am much better.
Viv - you poor thing. No I don't think you are over reacting. I think that your MIL needs to get her priorities straight.
Anyway better go. Lots of washing to do and cleaning!!!! Getting sick really throws things in the air.
Have a good day everyone.
-
Hi everyone
Went to CHN on Tuesday for Max's 7 month. He weighs 9.2kg! Heavy! My back feels it that's for sure! I also have been referred to a paed physio so we can help get him moving a bit. I have to get on the floor and play more with him (like I don't do that enough!) and help him gain more strength in his arms. The reason he sits so well is coz it's easier than anything else....so M really is a lazy boy! Not daft either!
He's been waking a few more times in the night recently, have no idea what is going on. Not pinning my hopes on teeth coz I don't want to be fishing in his mouth everyday! (not that he lets me) He has been biting my chin again, more drool and CONSTANTLY has his hands in his mouth so maybe that's it, but WHO KNOWS!
Viv What a rubbish effort by the MIL. Hope things have changed - for her sake!
Nic Lucky you doing up a house...I would LOVE to do that! Getting sick of my dodgy 30 year old house!! Happy 7 Months to Tyron too :) How fast is time going!
Alz Glad to hear you & Ethan are getting better.
Trish What made you go to a Chiro for K in the first place? Sometimes I wonder whether Max might have his back out or something and that's why he doesn't want to move! Though I'd guess he'd cry more....(and whinge less!?) Hope K gets better soon too.
Becky Hope you enjoyed your new mothers group...I love going to mine! Even though max embarasses me the whole time with his whinging, while all the other babies are rolling, and crawling and playing!
Amber Have Myles' teeth come through yet!? What is the necklace supposed to do?
Mo Hope things are going OK where you are!
That's it from me! Off to a wedding on the weekend and need to get something to wear!
BYE
-
Ange - got the book, thanks babe, you're a star ;)
-
M's gotten sicker :( now has a runny/blocked nose, slight cough & a slight temp.
Dosing her up a panadol & using a spray for her nose to help her breathe easier.
Julia have fun at the wedding.
-
Heya everyone,
Wow 7 months insane isn't it. Just saying hi, come to realise my promises of trying to be more active are just stupid and now going to happen at this point of time so all I can say is I'll randomly pop up and say g'day :P
Ryan is doing well has a evaporator to help him sleep easier, one tooth, rolling everywhere, no crawling and still can't sit up 100% on his own without overbalancing and flinging himself backwards. Has put a nice hole in my thumb with his tooth though.
I'm meh, working for 3 weeks, surgery then some other stuff happening, about all to report.
Love to all the mums and bubs, gratz on all the milestones, all the laughs and all the joy and kims new bubalug in the making and condolences to losses, lack of sleep and sanity & hardships people and bubs are facing.
Celtic
-
Hey all! :hello:
Not much happening here.
I am so over work. Really don't know why I bother sometimes. I just stare at the photo of my little boy and can't wait until I get home to him. Then the crappy bus is so late that by the time I get home he is ready to go to bed.
DH is realising that being a SAHD isn't as easy as he thought. He thought he'd have time to play on the computer, watch TV, do him stuff etc. Instead when he isn't attending to L he is cleaning, making up bottles, or catching up on his sleep. Hey, being a SAHM is hard work!
Oh, we've been offered a couple of days at a daycare centre in the City, near where I work. Just don't know if we should take it up. We aren't really ready to put him in care yet as DH is still at home, it is really expensive ($75/day!) and in the city so means I would be taking L on the bus with me. Holding out for a place in the suburbs, but can't be guaranteed of anything. What to do????
Happy 7months to all the bubs.
-
so who took there babies to the bonds baby search???
-
not me.
i doubt many mums read the terms and conditions but i can't think of much worse than queuing for hours with a young baby, having to fly said young baby to sydney for a shoot, having their face all over bonds for a $250 wardrobe. total exploitation.
i don't even want james doing paid modelling work. i know that many mums think it's just fun, but it's awfully draining for big people, let alone little people who need to have naps when they need them etc.
even that magazine competition had the proviso that you subscribe for a year to enter.
it's almost as if they prey on the vanity of mums because every mum is so proud of their bub.
i strongly discourage anyone from doing anything like that, which involves massive exposure for a baby for no fee, and having to trudge round the countryside with a little fella who doesn't really understand what's going on.
my 2c.

Morning everyone!
I took K to the Dr's yesterday after a really bad night and he said K has gastro. He caught it off his little friend . He has been chucking heaps and his nose is still blocked. I got him some Demazin (has to be via prescription now ) which has helped him breathe a little better. He seems happier today and I haven't seen him chuck yet so hopefully he is almost over it.
Our unsettled night may also have had another reason, AF arrived the next day :(. My first in 16 months! So I am officially fertile again *uses fingers to make the sign of the cross at DH*. I was loving not having AF! Oh well, I suppose it had to happen sometime.
Viv - Thinking of you today at the funeral. I really feel for your friend's family.
Misskate - I couldn't be bothered queuing up with that many mums and babies! K would find it all overwhelming anyway. Did you do enter Lachlan?
Saffi - Sorry you're feeling a bit down at work. I'm sure your DH will appreciate you all the more now that he knows what it's like to be with L 24/7! I hope you get into a CC place that you want soon.
Celtic - Nice to hear from you! I'm glad Ryan is going well. Did you have a nice trip away?
Mo - Sorry to hear Maddi is so sick. Is she any better today?
Julia - I took K to the chiro because he was being unsettled originally. I'd taken Joel when he was a bub with life-changing results. If you do take Max to one, try and find a paediatric one. It may be worth a shot. K doesn't do a lot of moving around either, he still only rolls one way and can't sit up at all.
Alz - Glad you're all starting to feel better. It's awful to be so sick.
Nic - Wow, it sounds like you are going to do heaps to your new house! I hope you get it all done in time!! (Though knowing you that won't be an issue, it'll probably all be finished by this weekend LOL!).
Becky - How did your new Mother's group go?
Anyway, better go dry my hair! Have a great day everyone :)
-
Trish thinking we may goto the Dr's as-well, just to get some Demazin.( so annoying)
Tried baby balsam, panadol, nose spray, vaporizer with liquid vicks to help her breathe easier.
Helped a little last night, still waking because she can't breathe easily.
Viv thinking of you today.
-
i'm at home, guys. the only other person who could mind jj has not recovered enough from her own recent caesar to impose myself on her (even though i'm sure she would have done it anyway)
i considered taking him to the funeral but he's so full of energy and wriggly that i think it would be a mistake, and distracting for the punters (or i'd end up outside for the whole thing).
dh was all suited up (and i stuffed his pockets full of tissues), so he'll be going for us.
if MIL thinks she's getting any more emails or pictures out of me (so she doesn't have to come round) then she's got another thing coming. she is officially off my list.
*hurrumph*
