No choking, a little gagging perhaps. Because you're giving appropriate food and baby decides how much to keep in it's mouth, there's low risk of choking. The important thing to do if there is, is not to panic! A few pats on the back should be OK. Here's some links to get you started:

kellymom.com :: How do we get started with solids?
Cool thnks Claire - gonna give it a try!
Hey all!
Amber - K has no teeth yet either! I hope you enjoy yoga today :)
Claire - When I upped K's solids to 3 meals a day he got really backed up. I ended up dropping the third meal for a while and I gave him water in a sippy cup which really helped things along. I know Ange chops up prunes to add to yoghurt etc., I have some on hand in case it happens again!
Becky - Happy 7 months to Chelsea for yesterday!
I've done another massive cook up of vegies for K today to freeze, it's so much quicker than making it every day and heaps cheaper than buying jarred stuff.
I've got a chicken roasting in my slow cooker ATM, I hope it turns out OK!
I had the dress first claire hahahaha:p! Myles hadnt gone for a couple of days and i was worried but he went and went a lot hahaha, but am thinking it might be the solids dont really know though?! We are trying to do BLS but dh and my mum keep telling me just to do it normally arrgghhh wish they would read the stuff i give them!
Becky tribal baby is a great website hope you enjoy it!
Trish Myles is cutting a tooth! He started this morning so will probably have it tomorrow im so sad!:(
BBL xo
Thanks Trish - cant believe how fast my little girl is growing up!
Claire - tht is a good website, gonna start it all tomorrow. I dont think I will completley give up helping her eat like I am now, but will def try giving her things to try on her own too!
Off to Mums group tomroow, seeing as I didnt get there last week. Looking forward to it! Then apparantly Im going kitten shoppong with my sis - LOL. Have a great night all
You can freeze veggies? I thought they went off if u put fresh veggies or cooked ones in the freezer? How do u dethaw them safely?
Celtic - Yes you can freezed cooked vegies. I mash things like sweet potato, potato, carrots and pumpkin and spoon each vegetable into ice cube trays (covered with foil). When they are frozen I pop them out and store them in sealed bags. I pull one or two cubes out and defrost/heat them in the microwave. It is OK to heat them this way, but you need to stir it well to avoid hotspots and let it sit for a minute or two. You can also safely heat the vegies up in a saucepan. If you want to defrost them ahead of time, you should defrost them in the fridge. You can also freeze cooked meats in the same way, but they don't recommend you heat it in the microwave because the meat can get very hot in spots which can burn bub's mouth. HTH :)
Becky - Have fun at MG today, I hope you meet some lovely new people!
Amber - Has that tooth cut through yet?! It's kinda sad when they aren't gummy any more lol!
Have a great day everyone!
Hi everyone,
Hope you are all doing well. We had another shocker last night. Ethan has now come down with a cold (he was healthy for a week) so he was up crying last night. Took him for a drive at 12.45 this morning which calmed him down.
Enough whinging from me.
Celtic - I find freezing vegies really handy as Ethan is a fussy eater. That way I can do a big cook up and freeze a bunch of vegies separately (in ice cube trays) and I don't waste all my food when he decides he doesn't want it. Tupper ware have some great ice cube trays which have covers and they are easy to push the ice cubes out.
Becky - have fun at mg. Hope you find a cute kitten for your sis.
Have a great day everyone. I'm am off to bed for a nap.
Becky - Just give it a go! Using the two methods is a great idea.
Amber - You'll got nipped with his tooth next! Makes your eyes water!
Harry woke up screaming about 9.30pm - not sure why but it was pretty distressing for both of us. He ended up in bed with us all night (he normally sleeps in his hammock by my side of the bed). I don't mind him in bed with us but it feels like he's on the boob most of the night. Feel like a snack-bar! In all honestly he's recently turned into a rotten sleeper - I wonder how long this will go on for?
claire - i feel your pain. same same same.. jj had a big cry at 2am and the only thing that comforted him was all-you-can-eat buffet in bed with mummy.
sigh.
i know not why.
Claire- has harry pooed yet? just doing a bit of catch up reading and read he hadnt pooed in a while, maybe thats affecting his sleep??
I make up batches of vegies too and freeze them, so much easier than trying to make something same day if you are out or got caught up somewhere you know its already done.
Haven't tried Tyron with meat yet, that will be next on the agenda.
We also do a big vegie cook up and freeze them too. The first batch I did when we started solids we used the ice cube trays too - that way I could do single vegies to start with. Now that he's had a few different kinds I don't even do that. I've got a whole heap of those First Years 'Take or Toss' containers (you get them at Big W etc) and I cook the vegies up, mash them all together (he has progressed to pretty coarse/lumpy mash already, we skipped the puree/rice cereal phase and he's done fine) and then spoon them in meal sized portions into the containers. Cool them in the fridge and then pop them in the freezer. I did some yesterday and he now has dinner ready to go for the next 10 nights. I did the same with DD and it saves so much time and money. I will never understand why people use only the stuff in jars (no offence to anyone who does!). Once he's had meat, pasta, rice etc i'll add these to the mix and freeze them too. I make an awesome baby tuna mornay! LOL. DD loved it! Just have to remember what I put in it now...Going to start him on finger foods (probably just soft vegies) after 7 months. He is already grabbing the spoon off me and shoving it in his gob so going to see how he goes.
Sleep improving here again now that he's cut his two bottom teeth. Days back to normal - self settling (most of the time without his dummy - woot!) and sleeping for 1.5 - 2 hours (currently at 2 hrs 20 mins and counting!), having one nap in the morning, one in the afternoon. Last night he did a 5.5 hour stretch and today I feel like a new woman!!
Eeeeeep! I just looked at our tickers Trish - I can't believe our babies are nearly 7 months!!! :crying:
Eeeep.......... Am I the only one who's bub has no teeth yet? I have though she has shown all the signs for the last 3 months but still nothing!
Same here - big cook up! I too have progressed to just mashed foods now. She is great with chewing - thats why I think Im gonna try her on Claire's method.
Ok, Im gonna go have a little nap now :)
I've been lurking, M's feeling better & i'm better.
She back to eating like a champ again, think she's making up for all the days she wasn't eating lol.
james is still gumtastic and gorgeous, becky. i'm in no hurry to get his fangs through my nip.
i think BLW is definitely the answer for the little man. he mashed and semi-ate a soft-boiled carrot baton today. :hooray: looks like he will eat after all.
Ninja - Thats great, at least you have foiund a way to get food into him. Nah Im in no hurry for teeth either! I love her gummy smile. Although all the 'teething' signs can stop at at any time.....
Not much else happening with me really. Been pretty quiet in here again lately!
Hi all
Been lurking. Nothing much happening, just work, home and bub. Back at work 3 weeks now. Looking forward to a break LOL.
L starts daycare on Tuesday. Just 2 days a week to start with.
Solids going well. He doesn't really like potato, but that may be cos I made it too lumpy. Loves pears. Next week we're going to do 2 meals.
Good evening all!
We had a dodgy start to our day with K waking up at 4am and not settling (even after a feed) until 5:30am, yuck. He woke up from his late afternoon nap with burning hot cheeks so I think his teeth are bothering him. Still not a single tooth as popped out yet so don't feel left out anyone else with gummy babies!
I'm sooo looking forward to the BB centre opening on Sunday! It will be great to meet some other BBers IRL.
Mo - Glad you guys are starting to feel better. We'll probably be there on Sunday around 11am too so I'll look out for you! I've got your mobile no. I think so I will try hunt you down if I can't find you.
Saffi - Great to hear from you! I've been wondering how you and L are going. K doesn't really like potato either, he'll eat it if it's mixed with a couple of other vegies. I hope L goes well at daycare on Tuesday, make sure you let us know how it goes. Enjoy your weekend with your men!
Becky - It's annoying how they seem to be teething for ages, but no actual fangs pop out! How did your mother's group go?
Viv - Yay for J eating carrot! Go the BLW. What's next on his menu?
Willow - I know, how scary that our boys are growing up so fast! Glad to hear sleep is going back to normal since he cut some teeth. Oh and YAY on L sleeping 5.5 hours :cheer:! How did you go last night?
Nic - How are the renos going? When do you move in?
Claire - I hope you had a better night with Harry last night. Joel used to sleep in a hammock, it is the best invention ever! Sadly K doesn't like it, so disappointing!
Anyway, hope you all have a great weekend!
Geez it's been dead in here....everyone must be off playing with the demanding bubbas! Well mine is demanding anyway....Mr 'I want to be with my mummy 24/7'....who can blame him huh!!!
Still no teeth around here either....he is biting a lot still though.... I have no idea what it's supposed to look like when they are coming through and M wont even let me look in his mouth. It looks kind of opaque (sp?) down the bottom...whether they are below the surface I can't really tell. Oh well, I'll say he's teething when he gets some!
Trish The CHN just told me to get on the floor with Max and kind of hold him up under the arms so he can put weight on them. I also have been putting a pillow underneath him so he can get used to it. He's tolerating TT a bit more, but still not that keen. He still isn't rolling by himself either. I know he can do it, but I have to put his leg over, then he does the rest...but only one way! SOOOOOO lazy...either that or nothing excites him enough to want him to move!
OMG Yesterday I had Max cackling....it was the best thing ever. I was almost peeing my pants it was so funny!!
Hi all!
Hope you're all having a fun Friday night!
Nic - NO poo, narda! A whole lot of offensive smelling trumping though! I'm going to feed him a steamed prune tomorrow if the acupunture doesn't get it all moving (we went today, our 3rd visit for his ezcema). He's doing great in himself though! Spoke to the CHN today too and even she commented he's lovely nature in the face of zero bowel movement. Could be the reason for his diabolical sleeping pattern though, definitely.
Becky - No teeth here either, no real sign of them coming either.
Had Harry checked over today (only 6 weeks late for his 6 month check-up) and he's 8.2kg, 72cms long and head circ of 44cms. Long and thin basically, just like his Father.
Hope your babies give you all a well rested night (this one's for you Viv!)!
My girlfriend is taking both my children sunday morning (is she mad, willing giving up her lie-in?) so that DH and I can 'do' something together - thought we'd go to the cinema!
My Mum is in respite dare for 2 weeks, Her Sister's are gonna call on Wednesday so we can have a long talk about what's best for my Mum.
So i feel carppy at the moment, but after last night's episode(a really bad Hypo) i feel a little better knowing she's in good hands.
Enough of my sob story.
M has no problems doing Poo's. We are like clock-work here, They are so yuck they make we wanna give up cloth right then & there lol
M is booked in for her 8 month check-up on June 4th, can't wait to see how big she is now.
Hope all the babies sleep well tonight :D
Sorry to hear about your Mum Mo.
I have the opposite problm of a lot of you girls here. Chelsea will not stop doing number 2's. Seriously, yesterday she did 6, the day before 7. They are not runny or anything at all so I dont think she is sick. Becuase of all the nappy changing though, she has the reddest little bot bot. Looks so sore!! Not nappy rash just bright red! I started putting Curash powder on it and then went to PawPaw ointment which is good, although not clearing it up just yet.
Does anyone else have this prob? And is there ANY way to get her to quit being so regular? :)
Sorry, back later for personals!
Morning all
Becky - how long has Chels been doing a lot of poos? I ask because the week before L teethed every nappy was a pooey one. He also had a bit of a red bum too. Don't want to get your hopes up but it could be the reason.
Tried L on farex and pears for breakfast. Not keen. DH usually feeds him so not sure if its just me or the food I'm giving him.
Goddaughter is staying overnight. Should be fun.
Mo sorry your feeling crappy about your mum! Sending you lots of hugs!
Becky bet your glad your not in cloth with all those poos hahaha!
Saffi Myles went off the solids but know kinda loves them again! I guess you have to try to not worry too much cause he is still ff isnt he?
Claire your harry weighs more than Myles! I have taken him to the dr but he is not worried! Do you think i should be? Have a lovely day to yourselves!
Trish poor K hope he is better soon! As i said sooo jealous about not being able to go to the opening! I would have flown especially but not with a snotty boy hahaha!
Myles tooth is through! Last night we gave him a rusk for the first time and he must have bitten too hard and screamed there was blood in his mouth from his tooth, is this normal?
Anyway his cold is better but still abit snotty which is sad!
anyway bbl have agreat day xo
Saffi - its been getting worse and worse for about a week. The last 2 days though it is really bad. Poor little thing. She cries every time I wipe her bum. Hope the paw paw clears it up, its pretty good stuuf. How is the job going? Think your gonna stay at it long term? Good luck with L at Childcare!
Aww becky your poor lil bub! does she have nappy rash aswell? Hope she gets better soon! xx
No, no nappy rash, just a bright red bot. Looks sooooo painful and she cries when I wipe her. Poor little thing. I keep putting tons of Pawpaw on her - not doing too much yet. I just need her to stop pooping!
*******NEWSFLASH********
The boy had a poo! Thank goodness for that! Normal consistency and colour so no constipation but I'm thinking a definite food intolerance - it had been at least 12 days!! I did a little dance for him and sung a little song - kid was looking at me like I was mental. I'm happy!
Amber - I wouldn't be worried, Myles is still within the growth lines right? Emily is a dinky thing and her weight is really low for her age but it's genetics, what can you do? They wil only eat as much as they want. Besides breastfed babies are lighter anyway!
Becky - I used Lucas' pawpaw until I realised it had sorbate the preservative in it - i now use Calendula (Weleda) and it is just fabulous stuff!
Joel has been vomiting since midnight :(. Don't think I'll be making it to the BB centre opening, so disappointing!
BBL, hope you are all well.
Oh no, poor thing - hopefully it will be a 24 hour thing........!
claire... breastfed babies are lighter? someone needs to get that memo to Captain Chunks over here. he's a chubster...
as i type he is blowing raspberries and making drooly bubbly sounds... haha...
trish - sorry to hear you've been in vom-central. if it's not one thing....
julia - i remember when the chn stood james up by pulling his hands up from lying down position.it freaked me out because i didn't think they could handle it. that was at about 4 months. she said they bend their knees as soon as it's too much. after i found that out, i had chubs up on his feet all the time. maybe it's just time for relaxy-maxy to do some standing up exercises. once james worked out he could do that, it's all he wanted to do. i either support by his hands or under his arms and let him take his own weight. always got good squeals out of him.
this just in... i was sitting here typing and i heard this loud grunt. next thing you know, two blue eyes appear over the edge of the table i'm typing on and someone pulled himself up. i was egging him on and he did it again.
woo. he's keen. only mastered crawling this week. :hooray:
baha...Relaxy-Maxy...love it!
Viv - good point....Maxxy does love standing...he's even starting to bob while he's up there....I guess he's happy as long as I'm with him....Wish I had more carpet in my house....makes it harder for the kid on the floor....oh well!
Oh and YAY for JJ....up he goes...and then he'll be OFF! So....teeth?
Claire I'd love to know where the info came from that BF babies are lighter!! Not like that around here either! I personally think the genes have a lot to do with it!
Trish Hope Joel has stopped spewing now and you can go off galavanting!
Ahh sorry brain mush - I had the WHO growth charts in mind when writing that. What I meant was I have read that breastfed babies are leaner in comparison to formula fed babies - Julia, yes genetics obviously does have something to do with it.
Trish shame you couldn't make it, Hope Joel is better.
M had a great time there crawling all over the place, Pulling Lu's hair & making her cry (poor Lu)
It was really nice meeting some more BB people.
ahhhhh...leaner! Heavy but lean! But the poor kid got my chunky genes! Poor Sod!
I did finally make it to the BB centre, it was great! It was so nice to meet some fellow BBers IRL. I left Joel at home with DH, the poor boy has been sleeping on his fold-out couch most of the day, still in his PJ's. He stopped chucking this morning thankfully, he has a really high temp atm though, so I am watching him carefully.
I had a nanna nap at lunch-time today because I only got 4 broken hours of sleep last night. I was up and down with Joel constantly and then of course K needed his 5am feed, yuck.
K is now overtired from our outing and refusing to sleep...
Julia - I love Max's new ticker photo, he's such a cutie!
Mo - Bummer I missed you guys, I was so upset that I couldn't make it this morning.
Viv - Wow, James is so clever! K is nowhere near doing anything like crawling or standing. He doesn't really bare weight when you stand him up, he just bounces up and down. When your MCHN pulled J up, was that from lying on his back? I'll have to give it a go!
Claire - Yay for Harry doing a poo LOL! Hopefully things will keep moving along nicely now!
Amber - Congrats on Myles' first tooth! Has he bitten you with it yet?!
Becky - Poor Chelsea, I hope the redness clears up soon.
Have a great night all!
:cryinglaugh: :cryinglaugh: was thinking the same thing!:
breastfed babies are lighter? someone needs to get that memo to Captain Chunks over here. he's a chubster...
But statistically speaking, yes, BF bubs are leaner. DD was a 'classic' BF bub, DS is.....not. LOL!
Rotten colds all round here. DD is miserable, but L not too bad thankfully. Few more wake ups last night than normal, but otherwise not too bad.
Amber - when DD cut her two bottom teeth, I found her in her cot in the morning with blood all over the cuff of her bonds suit. FREAKED until I saw blood around her mouth too and realised she'd cut her teeth. So yes, a bit of bleeding is OK.
Trish - hope Joel is feeling better tonight. Poor tyke...
yay Harry Im doing a poo dance for you LOL!!
how was your morning with dh and kid free claire?!
I remember Nixon went through this at about this age and his farts smelt so rotten until he rinally let one out lol. Tyron on the other hand is very regular, i think i changed 4 poos from him today..... its always atleast 1 and depending on how many teeth he wants to push through maybe more. (just cut tooth 6 a few days ago)
I weighed my monster myself and he's still 10kg. so he hasnt actully put on weight since 6months but he's got taller def cause pants are getting shorter. I was looking at him and he's got the chub cheeks thick legs etc but he's not a sumo wrestler baby like i'd imagine a 10kg 7month old to be lol! he's just big all over and well proportioned. and i do think genes play a huge roll. DH his very solid and 6ft 3inches tall so i'm sure tyron is going to give him a run for his money.
Nixon is started to come out with some more words now he's a charachter. he learnt one of our dogs names "Marlu" so kept repeating it over and over today.
I also taught him to say "Im tall, Im stong, Im skinny & Im a monkey" and do the actions to it!! although if he actually did this infront of anyone no one would have a clue what he just said but i know what he is doing!
Trish- i hope Joel is ok. we are about 5-6weeks off officially moving in. Today we bought an over and range hood. removed the old broken up kitchen into the trailer and ripped up the remainder of the carpet. so we basically have done as much as we can and now its up to all the trades to start doing their bit in order!
