Hi today :)
Amara had here mega festy session again last night from around 8.30pm. I cracked and gave her the dummy, she went off to sleep in my arms and I put her down in her snuggle bed....little beast slept until about 1am!!! and who was still up waiting for her to feed AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
So I have had about 4 hours sleep, got Eliza to preshcool ad come home for a rest and Miss A will not settle, cripes! The day seems so short, I have to be back and pick up Eliza in 2 hours!!
Hope all your days are better than mine.
To my SS I may not get to the Post Office today, sigh.........
-
Well I forgot to add earlier Rhys had his 1st month check up this morning and he is a whopping 5.2kgs already!! Not one 0000 outfit fits him anymore, and neither does the newborn nappies!! He is so his father.....And I got my first smile last night while DH was bathing him. Now I juat have to catch on camera!!
-
^^^it's nice to know someone else has a big fella banging around the place...
i look at jj's head all the time and thank the lord i didn't push him out... he's into the infant nappies now too. *flexes baby-holding biceps*
-
lol Viv how long is JJ now? Love the pics on facebook he is a real cutie.
Viv Maddi's best position is the same as Tahlia's
Kim got the nappy today thanks :D
Yea i'm sry Kellie, i remember you posting that you would perfer a early next year meet-up & since Ange might not be down here i thought we could do 2 meet-ups.
With the 2nd one being more in the middle for everyone, unless everyone wants to find some where more in the middle this time.
I'm happy to go with the majority :D
-
im still waiting for my first smile, had an "almost" smile a few times but not qiet there.
Tyron did greatlast night, fed him at 9.30pm, bed by 10.30pm and didnt wake till 4.15am, back tobed about 5am he stirred at 6.15am and came and had a cuddle with me before his nexxt feed at 7.30am.
-
thanks for the tip re: hand under chin burping. little guy looked like he wanted to thank me. no one ever really showed me how to do it. i just remember seeing people with them hoiked over the shoulder.. he hates that.
so, happy gas-free house for me today... (except for dh) *rolls eyes*
catherine -are you getting louis to do your 6 week check? i'm too scared...
-
Hi all
Went for a walk with L yesterday, away for 90 minutes and he didn't grizzle once. I was so proud of him and myself. When I got home I fed him, and tried to put him down. He wouldn't go to sleep but didn't scream either. In the end I sat with him in my arms until he did sleep about an hour later. Still happy about that. He slept from 8ish to around 2am. We then had interupted feeds/sleeps for the next 3 hours. Even your technique Trish didn't work like usual. In the end DH got up and settled him within 15mins! He woke at 7am and I fed him and put him back to sleep at around 7.30am and the bugger slept until 10.30am. Unfortunately I had an appointment and couldn't go back to sleep. He has been asleep now for a couple of hours so expect that he will be screaming for a feed soon.
Cath - Of the possible 2 days next week for the meet up I am only available now on Tuesday 27/11.
Off to the Childcare Clinic this week. I am sure L will have put on weight (not sure how much tho). On Friday I am going to a community education session on the first 9 weeks with a baby. Hopefully I will get some tips or hints.
Welcome back Rebecca. Had wondered how you and your girl were getting on.
Went shopping by myself after my appointment, no DH or DS. I was actually lonely and missed DS especially when practically everyone else had a baby in tow. How soon we adapt to motherhood. Good chance tho to get some clothes. Need some that are BF friendly.
Viv - we use a combination of burping techniques.I prefer the over the shoulder while DH does the type Kellie does. His does seem more effective and seems to be more hearty IYKWIM.
-
Rebecca - Welcome back, great to hear from you!
Viv - Yay for finding a burping technique that works! I use both the over the shoulder and the "Kellie" type one (thanks for describing it Kellie!).
Saffi - These newborns hey?! Sometimes only mums cuddles will do. Not so good when they want cuddles in the middle of the night! IKWYM about missing bub when you go out without him.
Nic - Glad to hear Tyron is feeding and sleeping so well for you!
How are all the Melbourne mums coping with this heat? Kieran has been OK, I have a fan on in his room when he naps which is helping heaps. It's horrible when they want to be cuddled and you are both so sweaty! I have to peel Kieran from my arms!
I finally got around to writing my birth story this afternoon. If anyone wants a read (warning - it is fairly long!), you can find it here: The Beautiful Arrival of Kieran Heath - 31/10/07 - BellyBelly Forums ~ Pregnancy, Birth & Baby
-
Viv- After a feed Ryan gets walked around if he doesn't burp I put him on his tummy on a burping mat (like a small cot matress protector) and rub his back he's guaranteed to belch every time! Sometime when he cries I just turn him on his tummy and he stops I don't know why, then when hes asleep he can be rolled onto his back and is happy as larry! Guess reflux and wind doesn't hurt as much on your tum?
Catherine-I pretty much given up on the boobing, supply wasnt increasing and needing all these antibiotics I've just given up trying he's happy on the formula he loves it and has been a happier healthier bub on it it's just me that keeps trying to fight the losing battle of the boob. He's started to refuse it now he used to be a boobie pig but now he knows its followed by the bottle he wants to skip the boob stage..
What's involved for woman at the 6 week check? I'm just wanting them to squish my tum to see if I need more antibiotics or a curette and that's it. DTD and it feels no different to before bubs just a little tender sometimes but I had that before anyway. Bleedings on and off, I'll not get anything for a few days then a little, then nothing, then a little, then a little more, then nothing, wish it would make up its mind! Loving the liners instead of the towelsized but wish i didnt need anything!
-
Mo- love ricketts point , lovely and shady. Sounds excellent.
Yeah this Melb heat suxs when it comes suddenly. i spent today in the shopping centre, nice and cool! Spent too much money though.
how do you hotter climate gals go wrappping baby in hot weather? L wakes herself all the time if i dont strap her arms down.
Another burping possy besides those mentioned..... i put her on her tummy across my knee, usually on a pillow.
Is it wrong to enjoy picking the snot out of her nose?! :)
-
Mo Ive not heard of the place you mentioned but happy to go there. Craig will come along. Im easy on 2 meetups...no worries there. Glad you got the nappy.
Viv- we burp the Kellie way too. but i rub her lower back in a circle motion, work my way up and then down to the bottom (so up and down in circles) instead of patting it.
Jas slept 8 hours last night and has all day too. I think my lil orincess is sleeping thru already woohoo!!
Celtic at my 6 week check up last time all the dr did was go thru a checklist of questions (contraception, hows the area where stitches were, weight, any problems), urine test to make sure no infections and all ok. Asked if i had DTD and cos i said yes and there was no worries or pain, he said there was no need for an internal :D
Trish Jas seems ok with the heat...making her sleep, no need to hold her so im thankful there...and evap cooling is nice so house is pleasant temp!
Ange....OMG another nose picker...my girls are gunna hate me...no snot gets past me! I normally wrap Jas, but in this heat i dont...i just put the wrap around her tummy cos she just pulls her arms out regardless.
-
Ange - I enjoy picking the snot out of his nose and he doesn't care either!! We sleep Rhys on his tummy with a sleep positioning pillow so the heat isn't a problem for me cause I don't wrap him.
-
Kim it's fairly easy to get to should take you around 30mins to get there :D
If ya need directions let me know :)
Kim does the Evap Cooler do well in this kinda heat & what kind do you have?
Phil wont get one cause he's heard they don't work in this heat properly.
Ange i love it to, so nice & the beach has a lot of shallow parts which is nice to sit down in.
Maddi is doing ok in this heat, sleep a lot today, hoping she sleeps this well tonight :)
-
Brissy girls! Tuesday the 27th is fine with me!
Sorry having a bad day today! Myles has been sleeping wonderfully but this morning I fed him and he fell asleep which is normal! he began to stir so I picked him and went to put him in his hammock and he projectile vomitted his whole feed up! It was everywhere, I was so worried as he has never ever done this! But he seemed fine smiling and gurgling! So as if I wasnt worried enough then just then after doing the shopping I go to take himout of the car and whack his head on the door! He was screaming I was crying, aarrrggghhh what an awful day! Hope fully tomorrow will be better!
Hope everyone else has had a better day! Sorry Its a selfish post!x
-
Well I had a GP appointment today with Louie... Gawd what a day... turns out I did tear and could have done with a few stitches! So Vivienne, he is now looked at my hoohaa... I even had to bare down to see what shape everything was in down there. He said everything was great otherwise. Just a bit messy down there I suppose. Second thing was my supply... I've already had to give her a bottle today and usually my boobs are so full in the morning that she doesn't even empty one... this morning, she needed both and was whinging for more - I ended up getting her to settle without anymore. So spoke to Louie about that, he said it's common for mastitis to affect supply levels and there wasn't really anything he could give me because everything they used to give mother's for increasing supply has showen to cause heart attacks in infants and women. He is going to look into it for me though...
Saffi - Seems the Tuesday is better for everyone anyway!
Lauren, nvm about the bf'ing - as we all know they wouldn't sell formula if it was a suficient food source... I mean, with all the drama's that come with bf, what's so good about breastmilk anyway? Just looks like watered down milk to me...
Viv, I use the position mentioned earlier, the skin to skin position, shoulder position, laying bub length ways on my arm and walking around and patting her back and I also use the birth ball... I lay her on it tummy down and rock it or pat her back - seems to be effective, i guess because it's stretching them out so it's easier for it to come up? Not sure... Also Louie told me you mentioned I reccommended him... ROFL
I'm not sure what's going on with Rochelle, but I think she may be dropping a feed in the evening... She has only woken once the last two nights... Since birth she was waking 2 times a night. I too gave in on the dummy today... I really was trying to avoid giving her the extra bottle of formula... The dummy kept her satisfied (Once I finally got the little bugger to take it) for 5 minutes and then she screamed for food - so I gave in and gave her the bottle.. I mean i can't starve her!
Sorry, I think there was other personals I wanted to do, but I'm in a hurry and want to post a post for Barb regarding my supply problem.
Hope everyone sleeps well tonight.
-
Amber, you poor thing, you have had a rubbish day. I have seen a friends bub projectile vomit before, its not nice.
hmmm might have to look into a sleep positioning pillow Amelia.....
WTG on Jas's sleep patterns. Nice one.
-
Mo im gunna need directions....im hopeless! I have a GPS, so if u have an address it should be able to find it with all luck!!
We find the evap the best thing we spent dosh on!! Works very well. Unlike a/c it does not dry the air out, so makes it easier to sleep (no dry mouths..lol), quite and cheap to run.
Oh Amber...hugs....some days are just like that.
-
Thanks to my secret santa! It has made my day! Havent opened them yet, will try to restrain myself till chrissy morning! But it made a bad day really good thanks!x
-
Catherine - fenugreek made into a tea is good for milk. tastes like carp tho :)
-
hey everyone
tuesday is great for me... anytime:) just need to look at whereis.com to see where the logan hyperdome islol i dont go that side of town very often.
i sit lachie up for a burp with my hand under his chin, i dont pat or rub for the first minute as he normally burps without the rub. then i give hm a light rub on the back to make sure there is no more. been reading the book "baby on board" by dr howard clinton and he doesnt beleive in burping at all.... so i give it a little bt at the end.... by the way, its a great book to read!!! up to you guys though, i dont take anything anyone says as the bible anyway.
-
Viv - HAB: Harry took to it really well. I put him in it within the first few weeks but he likes his head hanging out lolling around not tucked inside.
Stitches: Mine haven't dissolved - I'm a little concerned as I can feel a knot (I think) through my perineum and it's tender to touch. No smell though (sorry TMI). My 6 week check is next week so I guess I'll find out then!
Kate and Ursula - it was really really nice to see you today!
-
Aw Mo i loooove the look of Ricketts...very nice...!! Will be nice to catch up with everyone there...all we need now is a date and time!
-
Misskate - Logan Hyperdome is on the M1 Motorway - the highway down to the Gold Coast. So if you know how to get to the Coast, you will know how to get to the Hyperdome. I am so pleased you are coming so that our Lachlans can meet! I spell his nickname Lochie, 'tho my DH spells it like you Lachie.
L has a massive sleep this afternoon from 12pm until 4pm. Impressive. He must have been tired after last night's little effort.
Great birth story Trish. Am amazed that you were able to do housework during them. I couldn't but then again my bubs was posterior so L's birth was never going to progress without intervention.
-
viv- Im not sure i can explain this without showing but a MCHN showed me a great burping tecnique with nixon and it works every time. You sit bub up and with one hand against their back kind of pushing it so they are straight and the other hand on bubs chest pushing it slightly up and also making him very straight. Usually within a short time Tyron will belch one out!
Claire- so glad you guys met up today, again sorry i couldnt make it. when is the next one?
Had sales meeting tonight but DH had to fly to Melb today so i got mum to take Nixon for the night and my sister minded Tyron for a few hrs. I fed him before i left and had a bottle of EBM which he apparently guzzled!
Anyway i promoted to Manager tonight, Claire your new team name is NITRO! It stands for all of the names in my family Nic, Nixon, Trent & Tyron!
i tried to top Ty up when we got home but he wouldnt even open his mouth! hopeing he has another good night like last night, but just incase he doesnt i better get my but to bed.
Trish i will read ur birth story tomorrow!
good night all.
-
Congrats on the promo Nic!!
-
Just a quick hello tonight - feeling very tired...
Burping = we do a combination of
a) sitting her up on my knee with one hand holding her under the chin/across the chest and patting/rubbing her back, sometimes leaning her forward helps too.
b) over the shoulder
c) lying on her tummy across your lap, rubbing/patting her back.
spewing = very random, heaps less now than it used to be. CHN said that their valve at the top of their little tummies is a lot looser than ours, and therefore it is easy for milk to come back up. Can sometimes be that there is wind under the milk, so the milk comes up with the burp.
Enjoy your meet-ups ladies!!
I'm going to meet-up with the Perth BB members on Wednesday :)
-
Burping - a middy at the hospital showed us the one that Nic describes. Seems to be effective when we have tried it. A couple of books I have read debate the worth of burping and whether bubs do experience pain from wind. Guess its just one of those things we do in eliminating reasons for unsettled behaviour - I do anyway.
Had a bad night. After the marathon sleeps during the day, he went down at about 7.30pm and slept until 12.30. We went to bed at app 11.30 - tho I slept on couch from about 10. Took me until 2 to get him back to sleep. He was then up at 4am, went back to sleep at just before 5, up again at 6 and now at 7! Feeding him again, in the hope he will have a big sleep, more so for me than him. Is this normal? is there something that you all have found successful to try to space out the o/n feeds?
Childcare nurse at 10.40 so can't have that big a sleep.
Nic - congrats on the promotion.Tupperware????
-
Kim it is a really nice place, only annoying thing is the flies as usual & you have to pay for parking if you park at the beach.
I'm good for any day & any time really.
When do you leave & come back Kim?
Congrats on the promotion Nic
-
We leave Wednesday 28th November and we are back in Melbourne Wednesday 5th December (night time), so any day from the 6th is good for me! But Monday and Fridays are no good.
-
Good morning all - sounds like we all had fun last night!
Trish - What is this settling method of yours?? I am very curious as it can sometimes take Caitlyn up to 2 hours to settle and by then she is hungry for a feed!
She had a pretty good night last night - except for her normal dummy spit between 6.30 and 8 pm. Its everyday so we are dealing with that easily. She slept from 9pm until 1245 and I managed to settle her by 130 and then up again at 4 am, down at 445 then up again at 630 - although I think DH's alarm woke her more than anything. And I have only just gotten her to go to sleep now! Tried everything - even a bath.
Speaking of baths! We bought one of those combo change tables/baths. I am too short for it!! Its uncomfortable for me to give Caitlyn a bath and I think that makes it harder to do! She hates it when I bath her but when DH does it - LOVES it.
Anyway - had better take this opportunity to makes some phone calls and do some washing. Have a good day everyone!
-
Rebecca - the technique that I use is based on Trish's. Another friend was taught this in sleep school and worked very well for her. What we do is when bubs is really unsettled and does that inconsolable crying (practically screaming), we swaddle him very tightly, put him in his basinette either on his back or his side, with one hand hold the dummy in his mouth and the other hand pat his back or tummy (rythmic like a heart beat). We have found that he will continue crying but after a little while, sometimes 5 mins or more or less, the crying lessens and within a few more minutes he is asleep. I also use this to put him down even when he isn't crying, and generally alert - does take longer tho. A hint is to look at the clock when you do this - what can seem like forever is only really a few minutes and it helps me keep it in perspective. Another tip I was given is to not look at bubs in the eye when you are doing this as it will stimulate him . Trish may want to clarify exactly what she does.
-
I'm sorry to hear some of you had a not so good night... I'm not sure what's going on with Rochelle...3rd night last night only waking up once for a feed and then straight back down - perhaps she is dropping a feed? Maybe it could be the formula in the earlier evening? But we have been giving her that bottle of formula for over a week now and she has the breast before she sleeps through too... *shrugs* IDK.. but it suits me just fine - I just hope she is getting enough food during the day then. Gosh.. the worry!
We have to go out so I haven't done the personals thing today! Best for today everyone!
-
How about ricketts on the 11th, 12th or 13th then?
-
i'm pretty sure any of those dates suit me
-
ange... yes, i do like to retrieve snot from his nose. with his cold and a suction device it's been even more entertaining for me. naturally he hates it but it's kinda alluring ... ahem. motherhood. (dh gags at the sight of snot but not poo)
cath... ha ha... louis has seen your hoo har... neener neener neenerrr... nah, i'm sure he was cool about it. i think i'm still wussing out. i've booked james' 6 week check but not mine. eep. about night feeds - well, gigantor has only really needed one middle of the night feed. he has been doing a 6 or 7 hour first stretch of sleep at night, so it's usually at 1 or 2am. next stretch of sleep is about 3 hours so i do a feed that takes us up to around 5am. also - do you or have you been to the nurse at the healthpoint pharmacy at helensvale? she's there tues and fri. was thinking about it.
i think you can trust ro to tell you whether she needs more or not. for such small things they're pretty darn complicated.
kimbaz - what is the evap thing, is there a link? we have a/c in our room and the family room but i know james will need something for his room because it gets way hot in the afternoon. (already up to 26 in there yesterday) *nerd with laser thermometer*
whoever it was with the projectile vomit... (sorry can't remember now)... james will do this every other day. he had one today all over his dad. i put it down to my hideous over-supply in my right boob. he has been confusing my boobs lately by sometimes doing cluster feeds, then sometimes sleeping for hours. boobs don't know if they're coming or going. he gets a face full, overdoes it then has a hurl. poor kid. oh for the little tummy sphincter to hurry up and start working properly.
what time is the logan thing?
-
Morning (just) ladies and babies.
Claire - was lovely to catch up again, next time I promise to be on time cos atleast I know where I'm going now.
Nic - WTG on the promo and I believe we are meeting every monday at 10 at the same place. Look forward to seeing you there.
Catherine - it's likely that Ro is dropping a night time feed, our Maddi has last feed around 10pm and then no feeds until abt 5.30/6am, although she doesn't go to sleep till abt 11.30/12 wish was earlier but that time is her most unsettled part of the day, still dealing with excessve vomiting and what I think is wind....
In general - we burp Maddi using all the techniques mentioned, sometimes it is easy and other times no matter waht we try she just won't play 'little miss piggy'
For my SS person I will be posting the pressie on Friday!!!
Busy week for us on Thursday Alesha is having a birthday 'Sweet 16' so have family dinner with in-laws Thurs night, celebration with youth group Fri night, dinner at Mum's Sat night (my Nan and Aunt come to visit first time seeing Maddi), BBQ party for Alesha on Sunday with school friends at local regional park. Plus my great great uncle who lives at Gulgong is turning 100!!! on Sunday
Does anyone's baby only have short sleeps thru the day??? Maddi naps here and there for 1/2hr lots - very hard to get things done unless I hold her all the time and keep putting her back to sleep - any tips for extending her sleep.
Oh I got AF on Sunday (TMI) - it is very heavy, clotty and so painful, my tummy feels like its been thru the wringer plus the jelly legs and backache!!!! Maybe I should get pregnant just not have to deal with this carp again - LOL!!!
-
Ursula - my bub has some short naps during the day. I too have tried everything. The only thing that seems to work is to put her in a baby carrier and carry her around with me. But when I try to put her in her cot/bouncer so that I can go outside (34 degrees right now!) she cries and wakes. The only thing I have been able to do is sit with her and stroke her back/tummy and sing to her but still only short naps. She does most of her long sleep (3-4 hours) at night.
Caitlyn has had bad pains with wind so we resorted to wind drops - and they work fantastically. Everytime she burps at least once. At one stage she outdid her father in the burp stakes! Seems to stop the little milk spews as well. No vomiting for this one - YET.
Time for me to grab something to eat before Caitlyn wakes up - longest nap in a while - 2 hours so far!
-
Just rung my doctor they said they dont do 6 week checks anymore it's only 8 week checks so they can give you all the injections etc so people don't have to visit twice..
Should I try and book a 6 week check somewhere else or just go to the 8week check?
Also starting to bleed again think its AF...NOOOOOO!!!! lol why can't I have one week of freedom >.<
-
Nic - Nitro sounds cool! Very fast - we will be at the top in no time! I think we should stick to Mondays at the same place for the time being and venture further afield in a few months or so? We could take turns to pick a place maybe? I also thought we could get recommended people in to give us a talk; ie chiropractor, infant massage therapist, nutritionist that kind of thing?
I'm taking Harry to a infant massage class today which should be fun! Except he's asleep and I bet he sleeps through it! Maybe I can borrow someone elses baby to practice on?
Ursula - I'm rubbish at giving directions sorry!!
Burping - I burb Harry over my shoulder with a towelling square protecting my top half. He doesn't spew as much as he used to which is good. I burp half way through each side and when the side is finished too. I've got a fast let down so he has to gulp at times and that always means air in the tummy.
I've decided to get a cleaner - I'm definitely turning into a lady of leisure now!! I'm going to get them in once a fortnight, it's just to take the pressure off a bit so that I can spend more time with the children and not be stressing about the bathroom needing doing. Yay!!
-
Hi mummas and bubbas!
Myles is sleeping really well at night! He only has little naps during the day maybe an hour max!
Burping, we dont make him burp just pop him on our shoulder and if wants to he does, sometimes he doesnt burp at all! For the first couple of weeks we were religously burping after every feed and it upset him, but every baby is different!
Omg you girls make me laugh! Picking snot from your babies noses!ha! I wan to but his lil noses holes are tiny! I just kinda give it a rub!
Misskate I too have heard about the whole not burping thing, hence we dont burp! But like you said you have to take in what you want and what works for you!
Nic congrats on the promotion! Love the name too very clever!
Catherine, Myles has dropped a feed too! He is only up once a night now! Its hard not to worry hey! What time are we meeting and are we bringing partners?
Viv great sleeping by james! whata champ!
Ursula have a great week Happy birthday to alesha and wow your great great uncle turning 100! Bummer about AF im dreading it coming back! Its been so long and so wonderfull without it!
Claire hope you had a great time at baby massage, its so much fun! We have a cleaner....its my mum! Ha she loves helping out, but its great cause its one less stress for me!
Rebecca sounds like Caitlyn has got a pretty good sleeping pattern! Have you tried bathing her with you? Its quite tricky so do it when DH is home so he can help you in and out but its nice to get in with them!x
Trish going to try to read your birth story now!
Hope everyone esle is well and getting some sleep!Im off to eat something while the lil tyke is asleep!
x
