Amber - I don't think we have decided on a time as yet. My DH won't be coming he will be working!!
Ok just thought i saw someone say we were bringing partners? could just be my baby brain too! My DH will probably be sleeping! ha!
Ange Those dates are fine by me, how bout 11/12pm or 12/1pm
12th December sounds good to me... 12/1 pm!
Viv evap cooling is like a/c but it runs on water...ducted thru the whole house. Dont have a like but if u call some a/c people im sure they will do evap cooling too.
Hi all!
Rebecca - What Saffi said! She has described the settling technique perfectly. I was told that technique by a MCHN, she even demonstrated on Kieran and it worked straight away, I love her!
Catherine - Sounds like you are doing a great job with Rochelle, half your luck if you get to drop a feed! Try not to worry, babies are great at telling us when they are hungry! If she is happy within herself and still gaining weight then I wouldn't worry at all.
Ursula - I think babies do 40 minute sleep cycles and sometimes have trouble settling back to sleep by themselves. My first DS was a shocker at getting back to sleep. I put him in a baby hammock and would bounce him for ages until he went back to sleep. This bub I can settle back to sleep by either re-wrapping him, patting him on the back or picking him up for a minute and patting him then putting him back down. I hope you find something that works!
Celtic - Bummer about AF returning :( . Not sure if it's worth worrying about getting a 6 week check up, I'm sure it would be OK to wait until 8 weeks.
Claire - I wish DH would let me get a cleaner in! It is so hard to find the time with two children, I have no idea how I will get any cleaning done when I start my business back up!
Boomba - Myles is such a cutie! Thanks for sharing your pics.
That's weird how some people dispute whether or not babies need to be burped! I think it will just depend on the bub somehow. I know Kieran will cry, go red in the face and look in a lot of pain and when I pick him up he'll do a big burp and settle straight back down.
Re: VIC meet-up, I will see how I go, but it may be a bit hard for me to co-ordinate driving that far with Joel & Kieran. Kieran will probably be due for a feed and Joel due for a nap around then so I will play it by ear a bit. It would be great if DH could come so he could help me, but he has to work :(
I was going to start business back up in early December, but I'm having reservations now. I'm considering running it online only until February. I think it will be easier to manage my two boys and life in general by the time Kieran is three months old. I dunno...It's all too hard right now!
hey guys,
ursula, you have a baby that sleeps JUST like mine!!! cept lachie has decided to have another wake up at 4 instead of 5.30 or 6:) cheeky boy, oh well.
brissy girls, so far we have decided tuesday the 27th, at logan hyperdome piazza.... are we going to a cafe or something?? my partner is not coming he said just to make it a girls thing:) how many of us are coming???/

anyone else?????
Me and I think Amber as well!!
I am up for anything....It doesn't bother me!! There are a whole heap of cafe's there and just little coffee shops like Gloria Jeans and Zarrafa's (sp??). What time are we aiming for??
Amber - Myles is gorgeous :)!!
Kaylee was very unsettled last night :(... I just took Kaylee & our dog for a walk for the first on my own!
Viv- evap cooling (evaporative) is mainly a melbourne thing i think. it seems to work better with the Melb weather than ducted air. we got it in our house in Melb. But if you get a really humid day it struggles to keep it cool. Basically u need to leave the windows slightly ajar for it to work properly and it sucks the air in and cools it pushes it back out (or something along those lines!) but cools a max of about 10degrees. so if its a 40deg day it still gets hot. It wouldnt work in NSW or QLD most spots.
Syd meet up- ok cool i am there next Monday 10am! So is there a spot fr the older ones to go? My only concern is that Nixon doesnt give a toss and just runs off and keeps running! He has done thins to me the last few times ove been out and thinks its a game to run faster when i try getting him back.
Thanks for the congrats everyone, Claire ahhh a cleaner would be great! and Nitro has 6 ppl on our team incl the two of us!
Well Tyron did a 9.30pm-4.30am again last night! thats 2 nights in a row.
but then during the day Ty seems to want to feed every 2.5hrs, so i kinda cant complain if i am getting a good stint in the evening.
ohh and special day here "I got my first smile today!" so cute he was gooing and gahhing at me hehe!
i took advantage that i didnt have Nix thismorning and went to the shops with Ty. I was there for 3hrs and still felt like i was rushing around to get everything i had to (i had a big list!) having to feed Tyron in between prob wasted close to an hour of that time but he was really good otherwise. ahhh it brought back memories of how i use to go shopping with nixon and he'd be asleep/content the whole time, but now he wouldnt last more than 20minutes!
did a coles online shop yesterday, couldnt be bothered trying to get to the shops with bot of them while dh is away, last time the shop took 1.5hrs and then it took a further 2.5hrs to unpack it all.
^^that's an awesome sleep for Ty. *wonders when J will do that...*
Ooh Nic - I forgot to congratulate you on your promotion...Congratulations! That's awesome you got a smile today! I got a little one from Kieran yesterday, but I'm not sure how genuine it was! Shopping online is a great idea, I did the grocery shopping with the two boys yesterday while it was 35 degrees so it was a bit exhausting. It wasn't as hard as I thought it would be though, but I'm happy for DH to do it next time!
yay on ty for smiling nic!!!!!
misskate add me to your meet up list please! x
Hi ladies! Hope everyones day has been lovely...
Well I went to see the LC today and turns out that I have an over supply problem and my boobs are so full around the clock that in the evening when they are naturally a little lower I am mistaking them for empty with Ro's protesting which is actually thrush - STILL! I didn't realise that average baby gain is only 120-150grams a week and Rochelle is put on 380grams last week and a good amount the week before. So the LC thinks I hardly have a problem with my supply being low and suggests we drop the formula... So fingers crossed for tonight!
Well Rochelle has been going to sleep between 9 and 10 and sleeps through till 3.30 (around abouts) and then 6-7 am.
So a time for next Tuesday... Do we want to make it lunch? or would we prefer a morning tea sort of thing? I'm just thinking it might be easier to make it a lunch time thing so it's not too much of a rush to get bub ready and out the door and then drive to Logan if it's a little way away for people? Say 11 or 11.30 am? Otherwise 10 am for a morning tea? I also think if partner's want to come, who's going to stop them? I'm sure we'd all love to see the dotting dad's!
I think I am the one most local the to Hyperdome so whatever time suits you ladies that have to travel best suits me!! Also where abouts in the piazza are we going to met?? There are a whole heap of resturants there and the coffee club and zaffara's.....The cinemas are out there as well so we could just say outside the cinemas so there is no confusion???
Amber - great pics... Myles is a little spunk!
Question: I think this was discussed a few days ago, but does anyone have any suggestions about how to swaddle a baby in the heat? Even using a cotton muslin wrap Tahlia gets too hot when I swaddle her in the traditional way, but if I don't, she wakes herself up when her fists move.
I am so looking forward to tomorrow when its not going to be hot.. this hot weather takes it out of me, Tahlia has hardly slept all day cause I think she is too hot..... hopefully that means she'll sleep well tonight!

cath. dont worry bout the oral thrush, lachie had it and its easy to treat. gotta go feed my boy
Boomba - I would LOVE to take Caitlyn in the bath with me but I dont know how healthy it is for her - I still have some loss.
I think my little one may have colic. I dont know if it is something that I am doing wrong but she will sleep and then wake and cry. I will change her and play with her a little while her bottle is warming. Then I will feed her and then burp her. She will slowly drop off to sleep but then 5 minutes later - she is crying again. I have tried everything. Should I be playing with her more? what sort of playing does everyone do? I put her in her bouncer - cries. Put her in her pram - cries. I can put her over my shoulder and walk around with her and she will stop but as soon as I take her off my shoulder - cries! Baby sling - hates it!! Baby carrier - is ok for a while but then - cries!
walking with her seems to help but (TMI alert) I have haemorrhoids and being on my feet for too long HURTS LIKE HELL!!! Am open to suggestions to help make my baby tired so she will go to sleep. Will try the settling technique tonight during her BAD time and let you know how I go!
rebecca - I'm having exactly the same settling problem with Tahlia as what you are having with Caitlyn... hopefully its just a stage they are going through... I'm also open to anyones suggestions!
Ursula - Bummer at the return of AF!! I love no AF - I've had about 6 periods since late 04 and I don't miss it at all. AF returned with Emily after about 11 months and I'm hoping that I can beat that record with little Harry.
Amber - Want to rent your mum out? Bet she's cheaper than the quotes I've been given! I'm going to check out the local paper tonight and see if I can find cheaper. The massage class was awesome, Harry had this huge smile on his face the whole time, made my heart melt.
Trish - I'm a bit behind on this group so I'm probably asking something that you've already told everyone - what business will you be launching? I think once you have a routine down, it's do-able, just remember to save some time for yourself! You're the most important person and you've got to be happy and healthy so that everyone else is too. (if that makes any sense at all!?)
Nic - We are meeting inside a cafe at the moment, there is grass etc to run around on outside but the road is quite close. I bribed Em to sit in the buggy by promising to take her to the play park, it worked so I will be doing that again next meet-up.
Catherine - I'm so glad you're supply is good, it sounded as much from your post in the other section.
Viv - I second what Nic says about evap cooling. The last thing we need up here is more moisture in the air. We had a reverse cycle split system installed in DS's room. All up cost about $1500 with installation so not cheap.
Brissy/GC girls - lunch is fine with me and outside the cinema would work.
Went to the childcare nurse today. L only put on 80gr last week!! She didn't seem that concerned. She thought the maybe last time we weighed him he had just been fed so had a full tum and that influenced his last weight gain! She also suggested that I go to bed around the same time as L at night and DH does an EBM feed when he wakes so that at least I have had some sleep before the o/n period begins.
Rebecca - I think the secret is knowing what the cries mean. We are just learning about what L's cries mean. Could it be that DD is giving you an I'm tired cry and you are not understanding what it means and think that it is wind/hunger/boredom/pain? L's tired cry sounds like a eh-eh-eh. They also give off physical cues like fist clenching, pained look in the face, not easily distracted. We learnt this today thru a video the nurse showed us. Maybe the child health centre in C'curry has the same video. Can't remember the name. DH has downloaded a DVD that interprets cries so I may have more of an idea after I watch that.
Also don't be put off if she screams for a while you do the technique. Gradually you will notice that the cries lessen and eventually then will be asleep. It took us an hour to put L down just now as he kept waking up and then starting up again. But if you put up with the cries it is worth it. I just sit on the bed and watch TV while doing it. Feel free to PM me if you want to explore this more.
Kellie - not sure about swaddling and heat. I had wondered this too as it will become an issue up here very soon. Probably need to introduce some ventiliation into the room, fan, open window etc. You need to "restrain" them some way to stop the startle reflex.
Kate - The oral thrush isn't so much of a worry.. it's just a pain... The LC says that's why Rochelle is pulling at the nipples, because her mouth is irritated by the thrush - we've been treating it since I have had the mastitis, yet it still persists! It must be getting worse because she is protesting more often now, hence I thought my supply was getting lower.
Rebecca... Maybe reflux? Maybe she doesn't like to be put down because the milk comes back up? Therefore she might like being in that up right postion better? IDK.. just throwing a suggestion your way.
Ursula - Have you tried a really dark room? She might sleep better if it's really dark because apparently the brain releases a different chemical to put them into a deeper sleep.
Trish - Ro is the same and will go red in the face if we don't burp her and also scream... I can't imagine handling that all day if we didn't burp her!
ETA - Claire, thanks! And thank you for your support.
Kellie - Swaddling is hard in this weather isn't it? Thank goodness for this cool change. I don't know any other techniques so I still swaddled Kieran in a muslin wrap, but put a fan on in his room which seemed to work well.
Rebecca - Have you tried Brauer Colic Relief? It might be worth a shot for settling her tummy and helping any burps come up. It is all natural and worked really well for my first son. I have to use Infacol wind drops for Kieran before every feed because he behaved exactly as you described. Within 24 hours he was a new baby! Maybe try keep her upright for a while after a feed and wait until she seems happy before putting her on the floor/in the pram/etc... Do you have a routine happening? I find this really helps with understanding my bub's cries because I know when he is hungry/tired/in pain from wind. He is in a little 3 hourly feed/wake/sleep routine during the day with no wake time overnight after feeds. I hope you find something that helps soon!
Claire - I run a pre-loved baby goods business from home which I have been doing for 2 years. I have put it on hold for the time being and planned to start up again in early December. Now I'm feeling too overwhelmed! Like you said, a routine will definitely help things along. I have a good routine now, but I am so tired that I don't know if I could take on extra work. I will play it by ear I think, I'm sure it will be a different story next month.
Catherine - Wow, an over-supply! That's a great problem to have!
Trish - in Kierans wake time, what do you do to entertain him? what type of 'play' activities do you use?
Kellie- heat puts a spanner in the sleeping works doesn't it?! I tried not swaddling her, but she woke herself up. I put her on a blanket on the floor on her tummy for a sleep today and she slept much better, mainly because her hands couldnt move as easily i think. Yay for the cool change.
Cath- fab news about oversupply of milk! You good cow you. Bummer abou the thrush still hanging around? Anything more they can do? Are you treating your nipples as well as her mouth? Meant to ask you, how come they didn't notice your tear after you had Ro? Was it internal?
Amber- love the pic of myles grinning, he is just gorgeous!
Nic- the smiles melt your heart don't they. Lu only smiles in the mornings! Not an evening gal apparently.
Saffi- i keep thinking i should go to bed when L does at about 7, but then i find getting up twice is psychologically much harder than staying up until 10pm feed then going to bed. I am not very good at getting up in the night!
Rebecca- Play time activities. talking to her, a walk outside, tummy time, read a book (Sometimes i read the book i am reading out loud to her!), propped up on a pillow by the window (She loves the trees),
Lu has days kind of like you described. She's not happy anywhere except with me, but i find those days come and go.
Saffi and Trish- WTG on working out the cries, they all sound the same to me. Except when i dipped her feet in the cold pool, there was definately a different cry! Cruel Mum i am.
Kellie - It's hard to think of things to do with such a young baby! I spend some time with him on my lap after a feed because he needs to be upright for a while and I talk to him, then I put him on the floor with one of those A-frame play gyms that has toys hanging down over him. He likes to look at the toys and tries to reach out to them. I have a musical toy that I put in front of him for tummy time and he seems to like it. Sometimes I put him in his rocker and take him outside while I hang out the washing so he can look around. Sometimes we just sit outside or we go for a walk in the pram (but this usually leads to sleep time!).
I was told when Joel was a baby that little babies like to look at basic black and white things, like you could get a paper plate and draw a simple face on it in black texta. Kieran and my friend's 8 week old bub both like to look at the picture frames hanging above our couch, it's really weird! Sorry, I'm getting off the track with the topic!
Ange - Most cries sound the same to me too! I can just work out what they mean because his little body clock is in a nice routine. So when he wakes at the three hour mark I know he is hungry, when he has been awake for an hour or so and grizzles, I know he is tired. There is no mistaking when he is in pain and needs a burp though! How good is this cool change? I hope you guys get a great sleep out of it tonight.
Trish - seem to have a routine. During the night she sleeps straight after a feed. Seems only during the day she is hard to settle. I use infacol drops with her - great for getting burps up. But might try that one you suggested! If it doesnt contain the same ingredient anyway - LOL
Catherine - I do keep her upriht for about 20 mins after a feed. But she wakes everytime I try to put her down again. Thanks for the thought/suggestion tho!
Think I just have to learn to understand her cries!
Time for a new thread!
