Well Im so sorry I havent been on in a while but as I told you Callum was in hospital.
It all started 2 weeks ago on a Sunday when Melissa was playing soccer she fell back and landed on her hand. So off to the childrens hospital we went. 5hr waiting and xrays they said she might have fractured her rist but it was hard to tell as it usually doesnt show up in any xray so they put it in a half cast just incase. Sunday night go her all settled and in bed by 9pm.
All was good until 1am Monday when Callum woke up crying, He was burning up. Temp was 38 so put him in bed with up and gave him a dose of panadol. Very restless night. He woke again at 4am and the same thing was happening. He had a temp of 38.2 and very upset. I thought it might have been his teeth. Woke again at 6am so up we got. DH didnt go to work as I was at the hospital with Melissa the day before and thought I might need a hand with Callum as he was up most of the night.
Well of to the Doc with DH and Callum. Doc took temp and it was 38.6 and checked his ears and throat and said all was fine. Just told up to keep an eye out for a rash. By now he wasnt drinking anything, water, bottle, duice nothing. I told dh im not waiting for a rash im taking him straight to the hospital. So arrived there at 11.30am and poor little Callum was so ill. Took about 20 mins for us to get in, wasnt to bad but the doc said his temp it high and he was starting to get dehidrated so she told us to try and get him to drink. But of cause he wouldnt, didnt evern want a water ice block. All he did was sleep on DH shoulder. So Doc came and told us they needed to take some bloods. I cried and cried. Dh went in with him as I was to upset. They tried to put the drip in his arm but they wouldnt get it in so they had to change arms. I stood outside the door but I think that made it worse as he was screaming and I ended up just going in and he was saying " mama mama" I tried so hard not to cry but just stayed where he could see me. They got the drip in and took bloods. So now we had to wait. They said it would take 2 hrs.
In the meantime we were told to cry to get him to wee in a cup as they needed a sample. Well we wasnt weeing and after 1 hr said they were going to put a caffiter (not sure how to spell it ) in but my DH had gone for abit of a break so I was left alone. I had to be strong but wasnt. Callum screamed again, I cried again and in the end his little bladder was empty and so that didnt work. I felt so sorry for my bubba and felt usless. So by the time he had to wee, he did but screamed as it hurt to wee. This went on for 4 hrs as he would cry when he weed.
Doc's came back with it be bacterial and they were talking spinal tape. I almost lost it. I couldnt believe my little boy was so happy the day before and now was going to have to go through that. His temp by now was going up as the panadol was not working. So 1hr after giving the pan they also gave him nurofen to get the temp down. It worked as it was not 39. All he did was sleep.
10.30 pm that night they said we would get a bed for him soon. Dh went home and I stayed. 3am we finally got a bed. So up to the ward we went. By 4am I finally got to go to sleep but was up again at 6am as his temp went up. The docs came and told me that it was bacterial it was viral and would probably be his toncels. I was starting to get ****ed off...as no one was really sure what was going on. So Monday was a long day and he was still getting the high temps and all he was doing was sleeping. Monday night doc came and told me he thought he would be able to go home on Tuesday. The clamped the drip and told me to offer water or bottles. He took one sip and I thought great he will drink but by tuesday afternoon when the doc said I could go home he wasnt drinking again and the doc said I had to try to get him to. Well you can only do so much to get your baby to drink. He just didnt want it. I told the doc im not going home if he isnt drinking so the doc said ok stay another night. Well Tuesday night at 11pm I woke up to the nurse pulling on my arm saying she is calling the doc as his temp was 39.6 and his heart beat was rasing. OH MY GOD I called my DH and was crying as Callum just was laying there in just a nappy and singlet very pink and flushed and breathing so heavy. All I was thinking was " im going to loose him" I couldnt help it. The doc came and told me that they will do more bloods and that he needed the drip to be put back on as he was dehidrated again. So they put the dip back on and I think they did more test I cant remember as I was such a mess. The rest of the night he slept. He Woke up Wednesday morning so different. He wanted to eat and drink. LOL@ me and was a totally different kid. I huged him and kissed him so much. The doc came and told me it was viral and there was nothing they could give him. They sent us home Wednesday night and of cause when we got home he got another temp of 38.4 but that was the last one. Thank God!!
Thursday they sent out a nurse to check on him and she was happy enough athough he wasnt drinking the most but as long as he was she was happy. So thats what was happening with me. Friday just tried to keep him quiet and take care of him and the weekend dh looked after him for me so I could rest. Monday packed as I wanted to get away for abit so packed for mums house up the central coast and went up there Tuesday after taking Melissa back to the hospital to get her arm checked. All was ok and she is fine and happy as she can play soccer again.
I just got back from mums today and thought opps you ladies were worried and im sorry for not letting you know what was happening. Im sorry.
Thanks so much for your concerns. xxxxxxxxx
I just hope I never have to see my baby go through anything like that again!!!!
