Niamh ~ Reflux is where the contents of the stomach come back up into the oesophagus. Most babies have some degree of reflux in their first few weeks/months but it never bothers them. Seven suffers because it burns the back of her throat. I have now got her on Mylanta after a feed and this seems to be helping slowly.
Babies with bad reflux will want to feed more often because breast milk soothes the throat and tummy, but then it can make the problem worse as well.
It can sometimes make them fussy at the breast as well, and Seven does this during the day, but feeds well at night. I find that if Seven is coming on and off the breast and not feeding well, I will give the Mylanta before the feed, and it generally works and she has a good feed.
I am going for our 6 week check tomorrow, Seven will be 7 weeks but ah well, and I am going to ask for some Zantac to help with lowering the acid and hopefully this will help Seven with her pain.
I feel for you I really do.

Just about to collapse into bed but wanted to do a quick post - I keep putting off posting, thinking I'll do it when I have more time. hahaha. Now realise that's a pipedream!
I'm also having supply problems on the breastfeeding front, apparently due to having the c-s and the post partum bleed. I'm taking motilium, putting Matthew to the breast as often as he demands and trying to express after every feed. Still waiting for the milk to be sloshing about though. I've also been topping up with S-26 formula when I've run out of eveything. The early childhood nurse came today and Matthew is now 4.1kg (up from 3805g at birth), head circumference is 38cm (up from 36cm) and length has gone from 51.5cm to 57cm, putting him in the 90th percentile. So he's not starving!
Back again later!

Hi girls, Mummatwo we are co-sleeping and our maternal health nurse has no issues with it, but we have a lot of Bangladesh families here and they all co-sleep!!!! We have with all the kids both myself and DH love it, they grow up so fast and before you know it they want to sleep in there own bed????? Besides I just can't put a tiny baby that has spent 9months inside me into their own bed A>S>A>P????????? Poppy sleeps heaps better with us there........During the day she is reasonablly happy to go into a rocker and sleep for in a pouch (hates the sling)????
Kell had 2 reflux babes, know what its like:o hope things ease up a bit for you soon.
Niamh, I think I am going to have a pouch tummy of my own:doh:DH loves me is the main thing, so is'nt about to up and leave because of it. Seems the more weight I lose, the worse the hang gets, just where my cs scar is though. Can you catch a bus to school, that is a very long way to walk, epecially when you need to get a much rest a possible. BF and sling???? not sure that iyt would be that easy.... What about a playground stop, snacks for the kids and a BF for baby plus rest for you?????
Sorry girls have to run maternal health appoint, catch up soon for more personals.

Hi Ladies,
How are we all? Its amazing how much less we all seem to be able to get on BB now we have babies! Emily is asleep in the peanut shell so I'd thought id jump on while I have 2 hands free.
We are going along ok. I'm feeling less anxious now I've resided myself to the fact i will be a full time pumper for as long as I can and give her feeds from me when we can. It seems to be working, when the nurse came on Monday Emily had put on 300g in the 10 days previously. She has now grown nearly 5 cm too.
I don't really mind the pumping, I've even had a few 300ml pumps! Next time round hopefully it will work out better.
Kerry- I hope your supply picks up, motillium worked wonders for me. You are doing a great job! He's growing so well!
Niamh- my tummy is saggy too and full of stretch marks! They only appeared right at the end. It really gets me down. Esp having to buy bigger clothes. I prob had 20kg to lose before I fell pg and have another 10 now, so am feeling really huge.
Kell- I hope you get a solution to the reflux, its so nasty.
M2- we aren't co-sleeping but Em is in our room, and when DH leaves for work in the morning I do put her in her snuggle bed in our bed with me.
Hello to everyone else.

Eej, 300ml pumps!!!!! I haven't ever got more than 120ml. :o About to try another pumping session but doubting I'll get much. Matthew has been on the (.)(.) almost all day with just catnaps in between. I'm exhausted. But he's been asleep now for three hours so I'll get expressing while the going's good.
Wishing I had a rocker and a snugglebed. Will look at getting these next time I'm in Griffith or Wagga Wagga.
Pam, how's your weight loss going? I've lost 12kg but will need to lose another 10 or so before I'm back where I started. I'm still looking a few months pregnant and finding I'm most comfortable in my maternity clothes. On the upside, I can fit into more of my maternity clothes than I could when I was truly huge with Matthew towards the end of the pregnancy. :p
Is it 6 weeks before we can start exercising, if you've had a c-s?? What I've read suggests that's when to start. The early childhood nurse also told me to be careful not to stretch, reach forward or lift at the moment, even if it doesn't hurt, because of the risk of adhesions. My mother was saying that in China, after the babies are born, no visitors are allowed for the first four weeks and the mums are kept confined to the house...

I am just stopping in for a quick post while Molly is sleeping.
Today we went to the local shopping centre to have a look around and it was the first time I had been there since before Molly was born. I hadn't realised how trapped in the house I felt until we went there. KWIM? Even though I am not meant to be driving I have been bad. My IL's went home last weekend and I have had to drive myself to doctors appointments otherwise I can't get there. We are still having issues with thrush and my c/s scar and it is starting to get me down.
Molly also had to get a bump on her tailbone checked out. We had that xrayed on Thursday and all seems to be ok.
Breastfeeding... where to start with that. We have been plodding along with it and are having some attachment issues. Sometimes we attach properly but other times no. I have left a message with a LC to make an appointment. My nipples are sore but sometime I am not sure if its attachment or the thrush. It hurts when she initially attaches but then I dont feel her.. does that make sense?
For the last few days I have noticed that around feed times that one breast seems to be fuller than the other. Today it feels sore too so I am hoping that I am not developing any issues with it. What do you think? Does anyone else have issues with leaking? Coincidentally the side that is sore today leaks like a tap.
The local mothers group starts here on Wednesday and I said I would go. I am a little nervous about going.
Sorry I haven't had time again for personals. I do read all that you post even if I don't get time to comment.

Hello everyone
Stopping in for a quick chat. Things have been so crazy. DD1 has been causing problems with her temper tantrums so now I stressed out as well as tired. Oh what fun 3 yo can be!!
Donna, I definately have issues with leaking from one side. I think for me it is because Ashlyn feeds better from one side so it produces more milk. Don't worry though, they wont leak forever. Sometimes I get the sore nipples, but it is only sore on the first couple of sucks then it feels fine so I'm not worried about it.
Kerry, I'm pretty sure you need to wait for the six week check up before to much exercise. I've just been doing some walking to get myself started and that seems to be enough to wear me out.
Oh it seems I'm going to have to cut my message short, Ashlyn has started to wake up again. I think its going to be another long night. Be back later.
-
Captain - Thanks for the reassurance. There is hope :)
Kerry - I am waiting for my 6 week check up too. I was lucky and I actually weigh about 8kgs less than I did at the start of my pregnancy but feeling very motivated to loose more.
Molly has developed this wonderful habit.. she hates having her arms wrapped and will wake herself up trying to get them out but if I don't wrap them she wakes herself up with her startle reflex. what can you do?
-
Hi All.
A quick one from me......the Zantac seems to be doing some good. She's almost a different baby! Still has a scream at night and thats when it gets stressful - thank god for DF! But, I am able to put her down during the day for a little bit and she quite happily looks around or at her toys and listens to music! Yay!
The Dr didn't give me a script for Zantac as she thought I didn't need it! She also suggested to stop mylanta. So, I was naughty and went to work and now have some Zantac syrup and guess what? Seven is getting better by the day.
Anyhoo, better run, things to do. I also think I am coming down with a throat infection. Throat is SO sore! :(
Love & Hugs
Sorry for lack of personals, although I did read everyones posts!

Starting to feel a bit depressed about my breastmilk supply not increasing yet. I've been feeding, feeding, feeding, as well as expressing and taking Motilium but only got 60ml when I expressed tonight. I was really thinking I'd have milk sloshing around by now but not even leaking and breasts feel soft. Not sure whether it's still because of the hemorrhage I had after the emergency c-s or being over 40 (an ABC news article I read said that beginning after age 35, the milk-producing glands gradually decrease in number and are replaced by fatty tissue). :( Stressing about it isn't helping either, I know.
-
Sorry to hijack ladies, but just wanted to give a  to Kerry. I had a really tough time at the start too, on Motillium, pumping etc, but have you tried Fenugreek? I had great success with that. GL hun.
PS - you will usually have less to pump at night rather than in the morning....so 60ml is very good!

In relation to milk supply and expressing, i have had to start to express to increase, i jsut have a feeling its getting low. Is it normal that pumping friggen HURTS!!!! also, i only got like 30ml out of both boobies. I expressed immediately after a feed last night. I am worried about doing it before in case Nathan wants a feed and there is nothing there :( i wont use a bottle or a dummy so i want to make sure there is plenty for him. Any ideas?
Shoegal - where do you get that from?
I really really need to change my ticker. i just dont have time
-
Mummy - you poor thing, no, expressing should not hurt. Is the nozzle attachment the right size for your nipple? 30ml is good for immediately after a feed, and at night too. If your baby feeds say 2 hourly, wait for 1 hour after you have fed (from the beginning of the feed), then express, you'll get far more. Plus, empty boobies make more milk than full ones so you will still have enough to feed him. But remember that a suckling baby will make more milk than a pump too. Is he having plenty of wet and dirty nappies? And good weight gains?
PS - you can buy Fenugreek at your chemist, I bought the Nature's Own brand. You really need to smell like maple syrup when you take it, I took up to 6 a day.
PPS - I'm no LC! I just had a really tough time with my own son in the beginning, low weight gains, UTI, etc, and just want to pass on anything I learned when I was a new mummy. My LC was my new BFF!

Hi Ladies,
Sorry, again no personals from me. I am just so exhausted.
Had a REALLY tough time with Seven yesterday afternoon and into the night. And to top that all off I am sick with a cold & sore throat.
Seven cried & screamed on and off from 7 til midnight last night. I was beside myself and even rang DF in tears and asked him to come home from a BBQ he was at! He hasn't seen this friend in 6 months!
Seven slept for 15 minutes in the car when I drove to pick up pizza but woke up the minute she got back inside.
DF was upset too because he couldn't settle her and eventually I had to take her into bed with me and feed her to sleep - that took an hour - an DF slept on the couch.
I have read everyones posts, Kerry ~ I normally would be able to think of somethng and answer your questions re milk production but my head is not where it should be.....so, I will have to come back. But chin up - you are an amazing Mummy and nothing you do or don't do is going to change that. Please don't stress yourself out about not being a milk machine - not every woman is. You are you and thats why everyone loves you, especially your darling little Matthew. He won't care that you never leaked, or produced copious amounts of milk. All he cares about is that you love him.
I hope you have a better day today, better run, Seven is crying - again.

Hi Ladies,
Haven't had a chance to get in here lately. Madeleine had her maternal health appt last week & she has stacked on the weight she's gained 700gms in 2 weeks & she's up to 10pd's (from 7pd 12) she is drinking anywhere from 120ml 3 hourly or 200ml over a 1 1/2 hour feed.
We had the breastfeeding clinic again, still no luck. This time she refused to suck so I'm inclined to think that she will never get off the bottle. I've made a commitment to express until 8 weeks should we not be able to get her on, but after that I don't think I can cope with the 3 hour expressing around the clock. The motilium has helped my supply which is great I still need it to increase more as I'm having to suppliment with formula, kbowman are you taking 2 tablets 3 times a day? I know when I was only on the 1 tablet my supply didn't increase at all.
Madeleine still has trush, i've finished my medication but I don't think it's helped at all, I don't know what to try next. Her tongue is still so thick & she hates the oral gel & drops. Wish there was something more natural to give her.
Calebsmum, sorry to hear Seven is keeping you up. I'm sure its going to get easier with the sleep soon.
Sorry for lack of personals, bub is calling

Candy-jay - on the thrush situation. We just can't seem to shake it here either. I don't have any advice but I just wanted you to know your not alone there.
Kel - sorry to hear that Seven was so unsettled for you last night  Hoping tonight is a better night for you.
Molly had her health nurse visit this morning and has packed on a whopping 820grams in the 2 weeks since our last visit. She has continued marking her territory where ever we go by weeing on the scales there. Last week she wee'd on the xray bed. Soon she will have the whole town covered in her scent  The nurse has given more advice on the thrush and generally made me feel better about it all and BF. Molly has started to smile... well to Cody and the nurse but not me. :( and she is nearly grown out of the newborn nappies.
Molly had a very unsettled night last night. So much so that we went to sleep in the spare room. Sleep.. yeah well she was awake from 1am - 5am before she conked out. Hope tonight is a little better.

Hi ladies,
Kerry - Im no help to you - as sadly my milk supply never increased. BF my first 2 without problems for 12 months, but this time around - no amount of bub sucking, pumping, and maxalon helped at all. Slowly, bub is now fully FF - I'm really sad about this, but bub needs to eat, and there are some upsides - my dh is enjoying being involved, as is other family members - so it's nice to share the feeding pleasure. I would have been happy to express 60mls, thats reasonable, hang in there - I was told expressing is a really bad indicator of what's available anyway. If Mathew is gaining weight, you're doing okay!
