hey, i know im not technically in the date range for this group but i know people here! lol. shayla was born on the 18th, but i was due on the 13th...
i sympathise with the bf issues because i had some myself. after the long labor and then emergency c/s, my milk wasnt coming in and i had to comp with 20ml formula. i was taking motillion to increase supply but after 2 weeks the nurses and doc realised it wasnt working. i was feeding for 1-2 hours, then trying to express for half an hour, then id simply be feeding again.
i wasnt getting any sleep, and my milk production wasnt changing. i now have a fairly happy ff baby, i can have df up for night feeds, which is wonderful!
only problem i have is that half the time we feed shayla and she screams and wont take the bottle. we know she's hungry, but it doesnt seem to make a difference. can be really frustrating... and she doesnt seem to do it out in public. 2 days in a row we went out visiting friends and shopping, and she was perfect. except that she wanted daddy to carry her, she didnt want to be pushed in the pram.
well i hope everyone is well! good luck with B/F to all that are continuing with it!!!

Hi Ladies
Another quick one from me as Ashlyn is about to wake up. We going to the Chiro today cause my back has been so sore.
Kerry:hug:, it can be so stressful when bf isn't working. The only suggestion I can make is sleep. How much are you getting? When I had supply issues with Danielle it was mostly because I wasn't getting any sleep. Well, it was maybe 3 hours a day. I ended up buying a single sachet of formula and giving it to her. I then went to bed and slept, when I woke up I had a bit more milk than before and she was able to take a full feed. Things improved a bit from there.
Donna, Ashlyn is the same, she loves to wee without her nappy on and I've had to change clothes several times from the explosive poos she does all over me!!!!
Kell,. Poor you and Seven. It's so hard when they can't sleep. Hope your cold gets better soon.
Sorry it seems I haven't anymore time for personals. Sleeping beauty is waking and Danielle wants her morning tea. It's amazing how much less time I have these days, lol.
Hope your all doing well

just quickly popping in, we just got back from the doctors and Madeleine has reflux, she was so unsettled screaming all night & bringing up the milk, so we have been prescribed Zantac... I hope it works for her poor thing thrush & reflux.
Indie, I've finished my medication but I think I still have it due to the pain. I spoke to my doctor today & he said the capsules don't work for most ppl but there is a drug out there at a cost of around $200 -$300 which would clear it up, unfortunately can't afford that at the moment. I'm thinking of starting to try natural with yakult, yoghurt & maybe some of those capsules you can buy from the chemist, I know when I was PG natural was the only way for me.
I agree with Captain, without sleep my body doesn't seem to produce very much milk & I was having to drink 3 lt of water in the beginning to get any.
hope everyone is well.

Thanks for the encouragement and suggestions re: milk supply :) I've started drinking Aktavite and raspberry leaf tea and I'm still taking the Motilium (2 tabs, three times a day). Today I only expressed three times, once first thing in the morning, after lunch and this evening. All up about 300ml. The rest of my milk, Matthew has been getting. He is a hungry fellow! Which is why I've been doubting that my milk has come in. There never seems to be enough. Will persevere a little longer and will see how Matthew is at his next weigh in on Friday.
Today we went for a drive and I took him for a walk in his Maclaren Vogue stroller. The fresh air was good.
CandyJay, hope the Zantac does the trick for Madeleine and that tonight is better for you all. :crossfingers:
Captain, I haven't been getting enough sleep - that may be playing a big role too. Will try to do better!
Tazzy, sounds like you had a rough start with bf too. Hope the ff settles down for you - I'm thinking I'll end up heading down that track soon myself if Matthew's weight gains don't continue.
Lee, thanks for the encouragement. I've been really keen to keep trying because at the moment and for the next few months at least, it's just me doing the feeding. Night times will be much easier if I can keep bf.
Shoegal, thanks for popping in and for the reassurance! Will hunt out the fenugreek next time I'm in Griffith. :)
Mummatotwo, pumping shouldn't hurt - is there some way of turning down the pressure? Sounds like Nathan's doing a good job of sucking up your milk. I made the same mistake of expressing straight after a feed instead of waiting an hour or so. I just want to stay ahead of Matthew with EBM in the fridge ready to go when necessary.
Big hugs, Kell, what an awful night for both of you. Hope it's getting better!
Will be back on a bit later - need to share the computer with my Mum (here helping until the end of October). :)

Hi Ladies
CandyJay ~ I hope the Zantac works for Madeleine - I know it's working for Seven!
Well, as I said above, I think the Zantac is working! Last night was the first night in a week that Seven hasn't screamed and screamed before going to sleep. She still didn't get off to sleep for good until 12.30am, but, she was settled in that time and I just wore her in her sling for a bit while I watched TV. MUCH easier to cope with. She woke up a couple of times because her reflux made her vomit but, it was about a 5 min session to get her back off to sleep instead of a 5hr one!
So sorry about the "me" post, but I am just so relieved that I wasn't in tears last night! My cold is getting worse and now I have a cold sore, I think I am a bit run down!
Anyhoo, here's hoping Seven continues with her easy settling at night!
Hope you are all well.

That's wonderful, Kell! Now, to get rid of the cold and get you fighting fit again. Sending you good health vibes x x

hi everyone,
well its taken me a while to get a chance to post. I got a bit depressed after Liberty was born as I found out my close friend of 17 years who was pregnant same time as me (due 2 weeks after me) had lost her baby the week before Liberty was born when she was 36 weeks and 5 days pregnant from severe placenta abruption. She didn't tell me as she didn't want to upset me before I had the baby or so soon after the birth but i found out after the birth through the grapevine. Hard news to take when you have the baby blues - you wonder why you were so lucky to have your baby and why she doesn't have hers anymore...you just can't make sense of such a tragedy. I've seen photos of him since and so that's helped, as it made it more real as I didn't want to believe it (can't imagine how she must feel). She's come over a few times, one time coming over and holding Liberty for 5 hours or so (stopping so I could feed her though) - lucky she was a sleepy bubba that day. I've told her she can just hold Liberty and cry if that helps her. It's been so hard knowing what to say. She has days where she wants to see the baby and days where understandably she only wants to see me.
And I can sooooo sympathise with mums of reflux babies. After a 6 hour non-stop screaming we ended up back at hospital. We were told it was just too much sugar in my breastmilk but then at her check up we found out she had reflux (we wrote out a list of symptoms for the dr). Do your babies get loads of hiccups?? Did they have it when they were in your tummy too?? Now she's on medicine for it and now we know how to help her its been a lot better.
and wow all your babies are putting on the weight. Liberty only put on 200g when she was nearly 4 weeks old?? I've gone back to demand feeding her rather than routine feeding her to try and help her fatty up. She was on 7-8 feeds with a routine and with demand feeding she has 10-11!! She is a lot more settled though with demand feeding (and some co-sleeping, baby-wearing, Infants Friend, Zantac all helps with settling and coping with a reflux bubby ) Our saving grace for our sanity has been staying with my parents and also that she sleeps pretty well at night.
ok well this is going to become a "me" post as she's just starting to wake up for a feed.
hope all is well with you and your bubbies let you have a bit more sleep tonight!!

Lol ~ I am so sorry to hear of your friends loss. It is always heartbreaking when someone loses something so precious and treasured as a child. I hope your friend will eventually take comfort in the fact that her baby is happy and safe and cared for where he is, almost as much as if he were in her arms. Oh no, now I'm crying! Darn hormones. I hear ya on the reflux, so glad that you have some Zantac for her, I just can't understand why I had to fight the dr for some then had to go elsewhere to get it because she wouldn't give me a script! Good on you for going back to feeding Liberty the way you think is right for her. Hope the weight gains pick up, although 200g is nothing to sneeze at, its a start! How much did she weigh at birth?
Seven had another great start to the night! Yahoo! I thought it was going to be messy, but she settled easy again, in my arms, on the boob, or in the sling and we were asleep by 12.15 this time! So if we take off 15mins each night it shan't be so bad!
As for me, I am off to the Dr this afternoon as my 'cold' or whatever the heck it is, is getting worse, I have a cold sore and I am so run down. I better get over it before my Wedding in 5 weeks!!! EEK!
Anyhoo, hope you are well and adoring those special treasures we have all brought into the world. I wish I was in some of your States so I could come visit!!!! :(
Love & Hugs

thanks for letting me vent and have a "me" post - it was just hard with so much happening, forgot to mention that hubby found out his work was closing after getting into financial difficulty so he's losing his job. so it was just everything.
calebsmum - Liberty was 3.165kg (6 pound 15) at birth and 51cm. I've found Zantac fantastic in reducing the crying but not in reducing the vomiting, she has her grumpy moments but more like a "normal" baby, rather than non-stop unsettledness. Suprising that your dr wouldn't prescribe you it because the longer you leave reflux untreated the more damage it does. I've heard that it takes between 2-4 weeks to fully work. Glad to hear its helping Seven - do you find she's getting constipated from it? And wow you are brave getting married so soon after having a baby!!
kbowman - i had trouble with my milk too but only during week 2 as i'd had bad attachment when she was first born and she'd torn my nipples to shreds and it hurt so much i couldn't really relax. i could only express 30ml and it was only foremilk. it was so frustrating and upsetting but in the end it just sorted itself out. i hope it does for you too. Don't get too discouraged though if it doesn't, in the end all that matters is that the bubby is putting on weight and is healthy.
CandyJay - hope the zantac works for you!! the first day we gave it to Liberty she slept so much, it was amazing. we give her infants friend too after she spews as it has mylanta in it and so it reduces the burn (and it also acts to stop constipation which zantac is known for)
better go, she's stirring!!
-
Lol ~ Yeah we knew we wanted a baby before the wedding, but I am cutting it fine aren't I? I ordered my gown on December 1st 2007 and found out we were pregnant on December 24th 2007! LOL. It fits though, I tried it on recently!
As for the zantac - it won't actually stop your baby vomiting, because it is not designed for that. What it does is reduce the amount of acid in the contents of baby's stomach so it doesn't burn. If Liberty is vomiting a LOT then you can get Gaviscon to give her after a feed, but we use it at work and I have not found it particularly helpful. The Dr prescribed this for Seven as well but I have not bought any as she doesn't vomit heaps and I can deal witht he amount that she does.
I haven't found that it is making Seven constipated though. Seven is going every 4 days or so and when she does, boy do you know about it!
We were out at my mums last night for my Birthday dinner when Seven exploded and she ended up having an impromptu bath in the Laundry Tub! LOLOL!
I hope you get some relief!
-
Lol, sorry to hear about your friend's baby. I'm sure it would have been very difficult for you both with the arrival of Liberty. Hopefully she can find some comfort from you both. The baby blues is one of the hardest things to deal with, I had it with my 1st after, I hope you are feeling better given all the terrible things you have happen lately.
In terms of the Zantac, Madeleine slept for 6 hours after her first dose, unfortunately that hasn't continued. She seems a lot happier & it's so much easier to settle her to sleep. Thanks Lol for the advice re: infants friend, I'll give that a go as she seems to keep spewing after every feed & i'm slightly worried as I think she's over eating 140ml 3-4hourly. Madeleine had hiccups every day when I was PG & she gets them after almost every feed.
Calebsmum, wow a wedding in a few weeks & you fit your wedding dress, that's amazing. What a year your having & how wonderful Seven will be present for it.
-
Hi All,
Yes, Candy, I am so excited about our wedding, I just need to find something for Seven to wear!
Also, if the Infants Friend does not work for you in the way of helping Madeleine with her vomiting, you can try another all natural product. Its Brauers Stomach Calm and I find that when Seven is having a particularly 'bad tummy' day, I give her this and it settles her tummy and she doesn't throw up as much. Just another non-medication idea for you!
Hope all is going well with everyone!
Love & Hugs

Lol, that's so sad about your friend. I was in tears after reading what you'd written. It must be incredibly hard for the both of you. And then your DH losing his job on top. How long does he have? Will he be able to find something else easily? :( Big hugs.
Kell, how did you go at the doctor's? Hope you're feeling better soon. Wow at only five weeks to go until your wedding!! I couldn't organise my way out of a paper bag at the moment, so I'm full of admiration for you!
Candy Jay, I feel like I'm never going to keep Matthew satisfied either. He's also weighing just over 10 pounds now, having put on another 380 grams (although was weighed dressed in singlet and nappy this time) in the past week. We had a very unsettled night last night, just couldn't get him to sleep in his bassinet so I spent the night dozing while sitting up in bed, in between breastfeeds. The only way he seems to sleep for any longer is if I give him a bottle of at least 100ml expressed milk. Keeping up is so hard.
Going to try to catch up some sleep now. Hope everyone is getting some rest time too.
-
Hi everyone,
I have sat down so many times to post, but just never get to finish, I have so much to catch up on!!
Lol, sorry to hear that things haven't been going the best. I'm sorry to hear about your friend, such a tragedy. I hope your DH is able to find new work quickly.
Kel, so close to your wedding!! It will be so great having Seven at your wedding, and what better reason to buy her a gorgeous outfit. Hope your feeling better.
Kerry, your doing such a great job bf and expressing. It's not easy, but worth it in the end. Hope you were able to get some extra sleep today. I would love to be getting some rest time but it's pretty impossible with a 3 year old, enjoy the rest while you can .
CJ, glad the Zantec is helping Madeliene be a bit more comfortable. Ashlyn gets the hiccups too, usually when it's time for bed so it takes longer to settle her .
Things are going pretty well here. Ashlyn still wakes every 3 hours at night for a feed, but I can't complain cause she's usually pretty easy to settle afterwards. Though I would love to get more than 2 hours sleep in a row!! I haven't had Ashlyn weighed for a couple of weeks, but she seems to be growing heaps. All the 0000 clothes have been packed away and some of the 000 clothes seem to be getting a bit tight, though I don't think the cloth nappies are helping.
Bye for now, hopefully it wont be too long before I'm back :D

I'm finding that breastfeeding Matthew equals feed, burp, feed, change, feed, burp, in a never ending cycle. A bottle of EBM however means feed, burp, change, comfort, sleep for 4-5hours. Tonight I woke him because I was worried about how long he had slept. Am I mad?
-
as i am typing this i am going to change my ticker lol....
Kerry is this your first bub? I used to do that with B, from abotu 4 weeks he slept through the night (he was FF - dont know if that has anything to do with it) and i used to "accidentally" wake him up at first just to make sure he was ok lol.
Nath is only waking 2-3 times max a night now, for a really quick feed then back to sleep with me. He seems to be doing really well, i had him weighed a couple of weeks ago.. i think maybe 4 week mark - and he was 4.820 kilos, is that good? he was born 3.745 so he has put on over a kilo in a month.

Hi Ladies,
Just a quick post to say hi and I hope everyone is doing well. Not much to report here, just plodding along. We have the clinic tomorrow so we'll see how Emily has been going.
Take Care

Hi girls, why oh why do I feel guilty jumping on here, maybe becuase DD16 is rocking baby and thinks I am doing important things!!!!! Anyway have to check in with you girls, sorry have'nt had time to catch up on all the news but have read some......
I am definately not much help on the BF front, we are comping more and more each day... but in saying that I have always had problems with low supply , even straved my first babe????? Insisted on BF soley until 8 weeks, until she started to lose weight then had no choice... Someone mentioned to me the other day that I was "older" and that most likely was the problem???? Also the maternal health nurse said that Poppy has a high palette and it would contribute to supply issues because not enough nipple in her mouth. eej never in a million years could I dream of a 300ml pump about 50 was my max although they say that just because you don't get much from a pump does'nt mean that your baby only gets that much, they are heaps more effiencent at draining the breast, I mean there is only so much attatchment you can have with a pump????
Kerry I have been driving since 2 weeks sshhhh!!! don't tell I have felt so good this time around a went for a walk around our block which includes a good hill, very slowly I might add.... definaely won't be doing too much until after the 6 week check up, last time I waited 3 months before i got into really serious exercise eg: wood splitting, horse riding etc. I have lost 12 kgs as well have 2 more to go beofre back to pre-pregnancy and 10 to go to be where I should be:o but I have to lose more before summer really hits otherwise I am going to have chaffed inner thighs I can feel it already (sorry gross I know)
Mumma wait till Nath has had his feed then express, they say it only takes 10 minutes till the breast is rwady to go again.
Hi to the rest of you girls I am definately thinking of you all and will try to get on here again in the morning.
