Pam, very glad to hear from you. I'm sure everyone who prays - and even those who don't - will be praying for decent rains and for the fires to be contained and extinguished before conditions change. If only we could send the water down from Nth Qld, where they've had far too much. This weekend, if conditions turn bad again, I hope you are able to convince your DH to come with you. The police want to be catching the firebug/s before the community does.

Matthew is a bucket of worms, holding him on my lap and his arms and legs are pumping and he arches his back. A full on exercise class happening at the moment. I got him to breastfeed with me sitting up and him lying on a pillow in the loungeroom yesterday. But he was doing the detaching thing to look around, talk to me, smile, before reattaching for a minute and detaching again. I'm thinking this is so not going to be fun on the plane!

Suzie, we're off to HK next Wednesday. I'm sure once we're there, we'll have the best time. It's just the travelling part that is scaring me! Has Bella had any teeth come up?

Kerry- You'll be fine on the plane just make sure you feed him on the way up and when landing so it helps his ears. There are lots of websote with info on travelling with babies.

Just a quick post as I have to go get DD she is going to the doctors. I am worried she may have a UTI as she keeps rubbing her bits and is really not herself recently. Hope the doctor can sort her out as the tantrums have been really bad.

I have spent the morning sorting things out for the bushfire appeal. I am taking them to Vinnies tomorrow. I struggled to find somewhere in QLD to take things from me they all want money but the way things are for us at the mo we dont have a lot of spare cash what with only one working and the credit crunch etc but we have loads of things to give - mainly clothes, disposable nappies, a basinnett that Xavier has grown out of to name a few. I am embarrased by the amount of things we have and hardly use.

Xavier is happily bouncing in his jolly jumper and I am pleased I have managed to get him self settling again so my life is a little easier.

Glad the girls in VIC are safe for now and I hope stay safe. I am praying for rain. I know some of the area affected well and I cry everytime I see the destruction on the TV.

Kerry - so jealous of you going to hk. Dont blame you for worrying about the getting there part cause but I'm sure you'll do just fine. joh - I heard on the radio this morning that somewhere in capalaba there are trucks loading and leaving tomorrow and friday with donations of all sorts - it was Nova so might be on the website.

Well, I am just having a bit of a shyte time atm. We've been having trouble with ds15 ever since I can remember and have always been shunned at school or not taken seriously by anyone and I have finally found some help for his behaviour and learning probs. We are up for a long hard haul with him, not that it hasn't been hard already. I have always had a feeling that there was something not right with him, not simple or anything, just not right IYGWIM. Anyway, I asked yesterday at the learning support centre we have found if there is a possibility that he has mild autism/aspergers and she said that she had already written a note that may be the case but didnt want to upset me. I just think that a mother always knows when something isn't right. Just had to get that out of my system cause df isn't too supportive and thinks that we are all overreacting :rolleyes:, but at the end of the day, it's not his son, he doesnt have the connection with him. Sorry for the epic...
then...... I go to the dr today and have to go back next week to have some cancers cut from my cheek. I have one on my nose but he burned it today because cutting it would require skin grafts in hospital, so we have to keep a close eye on it... Hmmm, I've always looked after my skin so it's pretty scary..

sorry for the all about me post, there are so many people going through such an awful time right now and I feel like a biatch having a whinge.

Pam, great to hear from you. So glad you are ok, that must have been terrifying.

Sue, hope the nappy shopping helps you feel better. At least know you know there is something up with your DS and now you have more of an idea what to do to help him.:hug: Hope it all goes well with your skin. It is a bit scarey, especially since I got burnt heaps as a kid.

Jo, I'm sure any donations is appreciated, not just money. Hope your DD gets better soon.

Kerry, Ashlyn gets distracted easily too, it can make a feed take ages when she wants to look around all the time. Sounds like it will be a fun trip, you should be in the front row of your section though, cause that's where they put the bassinets, might make it a bit easier.

Mel, I can't believe Ashton is standing!!! The photos are really cute, he just doesn't want to wait does he?

Eej, I didn't realize i couldn't give blood. That's for saving me a trip. I will go though as soon as we stop BFing.

Well, went to work today and it didn't go as bad as I thought. DH said Ashlyn took about 15mins before she worked out the bottle had milk in it and then she was fine. I was pretty relieved. It was just a one off thing, I'm not actually due to go back to work until June, and it will only be for 2 days a week. It was kind of nice to have some adult conversation though. Ashlyn is having sleeping issues at night because she keeps pushing herself up and moving around her cot. I need to get out the sleeping bags because she doesn't stay under the covers anymore. I'm sure one day I'll get some sleep, lol.

Sue, big hugs for you. I haven't had my skin checked and I know I should. My father's had heaps cut out in the past couple of years. Fair skin and blue eyes and a few too many sunburns when I was younger too makes it a scary prospect. Anyway, good luck for next week when you have to go back to the doctor's for your cheek. :hug: You must be relieved that someone finally might be able to help your son. As a primary teacher, I know how hard it can be to get help for kids. So much depends on the quality of the school behaviour support teachers. And then you have to have support from the parent/s too. Hope this is a turning point for your DS. Happy nappy shopping!

Erin, yes, I've had a look at some of the websites and threads on BB re: travelling with infants. Some really good information. Still feeling very anxious though. ;)

Jo, hope the doctor was able to help your DD. Poor little thing. Good idea about going through your things to donate to the appeal. That is something I can do. It's hard not to feel helpless.

Captain, that's great that Ashlyn went so well today. How long were you at work? I've been thinking about getting Matthew's grobags out as it's been getting cool at nights here, after a few weeks where the temperature didn't drop below 25 at night... We haven't had to have even a sheet over us for so long. Hope you get a better sleep tonight.

Sue have a whinge, we all need to no matter whats going on. Definately sounds whinge worthy though. Hope poor DS gets the help he needs, my maternal health nurse suggeste that Gabe might also have a mild form, hope not, but know it's been said its got me thinking???? Good luck with your skin, very scary stuff I see a skin spec every 6 months (heaps of moles) in a few years time they will all join and I will be one big one:lol: Nearly always have to get one cut off each time I go. Just keep getting them checked, at least on your face you can see if something looks a bit suspect. Enjoy the nappy shopping.

joh, good on you they have to realize that not everyone has money to donate these days. I am donating old towels etc today for the wildlife that has been affected and I am looking forward to giving blood sometime soon. Hope your DD is okay, good to get it checked cause it can lead to infertility if its the problem and left untreated.

Well hoping/ praying for rain worked we had a good downpour last night and drizzle all morning, when I went out you could see smoke rising and smell it in the air, so fingers crossed it has gone a long way to soaking in and put some out. Our road is still partially road blocked with a police car sitting between our road and the next to stop tourists/sicky noses getting up to the fire for a look plus it's condsidered a crime scene cause 2 people died at the top of the hill, so only locals have been allowed in and then only so far, today for the first time the police stopped me to check ID, a little late considering I have been going in and out for days, but I guess better than never????

Just a quick post DD is OK doctor said nothing there and she is in a better mood and slept better the last few nights.

I have given 6 shipping boxes full of clothes to a collection point at Cooperoo Community Hall in South Brisbane. I didnt have time to get to Capalaba yesterday. I found it this morning as I was about to head to Vinnies. I was reluctant to take it there since they did not sound keen and I want to make sure that it all goes where it is needed. Though it said no furniture they took my bassinet and all its bedding too!

I am gonna trawl through our stuff and get more to send them.

Best go my DD wants to play games on the PC

OMGoodness Emily has been aseep maybe an hour today! My baby that sleeps all the time doesn't seem to like it as much anymore! I hope its just a phase!

Captain and Pam- we need to wait until we have not been pregnant for 9 months until you can give blood not jsut when we stop breastfeeding (in my case pumping). Its tough but they say its best for us. They were asking all the time for my blood when I was pg so I rang them and they said they would put a note to ring me when the 9 months was up. They are pretty strict about lots of things when giving blood. DH can never give blood cause he's had a blood cancer, which makes him feel bad. It such a rewarding thing to do.

Sue- I hope Df gets more supportive re DS. A mother does know! Hopefully you can get the help he needs. We are here to listen anytime!
Kerry- I'd be feeling anxious too! How long is the flight?

Jo- good on you for donating all that stuff I'm sure it will come in handy!

Eej my little man is the opposite hardly been up today which is unlike him.

Kerry - I flew with DD back to the UK when she was 13mths old. She was still breastfed and was not moving. It was so easy I fed on the take off and landing and she fit into the basinnet when sleeping. Turbulance meant I had to keep lifting her in and out which was a pain.

We were flying Emirates but I have flown from UK to Sri Lanka with Erykah as a nr 2 yr old and again very easy only she was walking and just wanted to walk up and down the cabin.

We flew back to Oz when she was 3 and I was heavily pregnant and she slept most of it.

The crew are generally good on board. Call the airline and request a bulk head to get a basinett prior to flying. You normally can request these seats when travelling with infants. They will heat and clean bottles and heat food for you too if needed.

Xavier does the whole dropping off the boob to see what is going on too. I sometimes cover him with my feeding cloth to help him concentrate on the job in hand.

If you have any questions regarding long haul travel give me a shout and I will try and help. Babies are way easier than toddlers we take all sorts of toys with us for Erykah but she doesnt even open the suitcase she is happy playing with the toys given out by the crew.

Pam, we'll be gone for a month, back March 18. My mother is getting more and more excited every time we talk on Skype. Very funny. Does your sister teach? I've been made to promise to bring Matthew to the high school where my stepfather teaches. Should be fun.

Eej, the flight between Sydney and Hong Kong is about 9 hours direct. There's also the connecting flight from Wagga to Sydney. We'll be arriving very late at night and the return flight will see us arrive in the morning. Hope Emily sleeps well for you tonight - I'm sure it's just a phase to keep you on your toes. The little monkeys!

Jo, we're flying with Qantas and I have requested a bassinet. They've confirmed my request and given me a seat at the bulkhead where the bassinets are but said that they can not guarantee a bassinet as it depends on how many infants there are on board. I'm hoping we get a bassinet as I don't know how I'd go with nursing Matthew on my lap on my own for nine hours... How warmly will I need to dress Matthew? Would a Bonds wondersuit suffice? Is there much room to change a baby? I'm worrying about how cramped it's going to be. Also, can you take baby Panadol on board? Does it have to be a new bottle? Matthew is so close to getting a tooth or two on the bottom gum and is getting very fretful. I'm thinking I may have to resort to giving him a dose if his temperature goes up.

Matthew's starting to enjoy tummy time! Never thought it would happen. It's wonderful!

You should get a bassinet they give them to the youngest babies I managed when Erykah was 13 months. They carry a few I think there are at least 2 bulk heads in economy that allows about 12 not sure how many they carry though.

You will be suprised at the room. The change table is in the toilets and put it this way my DD was 3 when we flew back here with Qantas and was still in nappies. I managed to change her no problems. You will be warm enough with a bonds wondersuit on. I used to change Erykah into her PJ's when it was bedtime. Not sure of your flight time but that was on the long flights. You get blankets give anyway so you can use them if you need to.

You are fine with meds (DD has febrile convulsions so I always take it onboard) however you are not allowed liquids of more than 100mls. Dont panic if you have baby milk in bottles you need to taste it in front of the customs staff to show it is safe to drink.

Put all your liquids into sealable plastic bags prior to getting to the airport (food sandwich bags are good) that includes lipsticks and makeup.

Trust me being prepared helps as we werent when we flew to Sri Lanka and we were also ill with tonsilitus so feeling pretty crap and then had to spend 30 mins sorting our stuff and a lot got thrown as it was over 100mls. I was so stressed out.

I have learnt my lesson and now go prepared. Anything over 100mls put in the suitcase. It can be an open bottle of panadol.


You will be fine hun. It is not as bad as you think. Just make sure you feed on take off and landing to help balance his ears and you should be fine. If he cries dont be panicking about the other passengers either just concentrate on calming yourself and little man sod them. Erykah was bad a 2yr old when she was tired and screamed for ages and wouldnt sit in her seat and wear her seatbelt. I got told off by the air hostess who I can tell you I was ready to swing for when she said has she never flown before. I think she has done more km's in an aircraft than she had back and forth to spain from the UK!!!

Hope the girls in Vic are still safe. Idiots are still lighting fires.

Well I'll be, I got roses delivered today....what a shock, so I have cooked a nice meal and have it just about ready to serve.
Bella is really sick with a cold and also has what looks like a stye on her eyelid. She's been sleeping heaps but it's disturbed sleep so I am a bit run down atm

Have an appointment with a phsychologist on tuesday for ds. xh is going along too and I will have some big words there because I feel that he isnt being very supportive.

Thanks Nae! We have picked another day for V day as DH was working all day and meant to be away overnight but he came home early so that was nice!
Sue- I hope it goes well for you. Poor Bella, Emily had a yucky eye with her cold too...weird.

I just want to say ladies how lucky we are we all get along and what a great group of girls we have here. I've been reading some other threads and ppl get really nasty. Its very sad. PPl can't seem to handle others thinking differently than they do, letting them have an opinion that is differnt to their own. So on this Valentines day just want to say ....Love you girls!!!

Thanks Jo for all the travelling tips and reassurances. Tonsillitis and febrile convulsions, omg. That sounds nightmarish. I'd be a cot case. I'm bad enough now and we haven't even got to the airport. Haven't even started packing yet. Only at the list stage.

How long does it take for a tooth to erupt from the first signs of a bump appearing? A day or two? Or does it take longer? Does Bonjela make much of a difference? I haven't tried any on Matthew yet. But he's been terribly grizzly today, poor little fellow.

Hi Ladies - awwwww - thanks EEJ for thinking of me - I'm sorry I've been 'absent' - to be honest I am finding myself so busy with a bub and the older kids, and just haven't had it in me to post much for a while - but I do pop in and read from time to time - I'm sorry I've lost touch - and I want to stay involved more, so will make time!!!!!

Nae - I just wanted to say I'm very sorry that you have had to endure another loss. It seems so unfair after loosing Nikita - I have been where you are now, but keep trying - eventually you will get a baby to keep here with you :hug:

Remy is doing well - but I think this is a bit of a hard age - because they are so active and alert, but not fully mobile - so they need a lot of entertaining!!! And they get a bit frustrated with themselves - Remy is rolling onto her tummy, but this is stuck and certainly lets me know about it till I come and flip her back over, then over she goes again lol !! I don't want her crawling too soon, but she'll be happier and more able to entertain herself and explore where she likes!! My older two were on the move by 7 months - so must think about gates/fencing/wine away etc etc etc!!

We have been doing a lot of camping here in Tassie which has been great, and Remy has been on all manner of adventures!!

Have not fully read back on where everyone is at, but will keep up better!!!! It's hard to believe our bubs are nearly 6 months old, not looking forward to the next lot of needles, I have made it clear to DH that he is taking Remy for the next ones!!
