hey beautiful girls. I hope all the gorgeous bubs are doing well! I don't have time for personals and I have missed soooo much!
Ashton is just doing so much new things! He says muma, dada and more (for tickles). Claps, waves and walks around the furniture. I uploaded 3 videos onto my facebook of him walking and waving and trying to walk with the walker which was a crawl and absolutely hillarious! He hadn't seen one before.
He is into everything but is understanding NO now. When he tries to pull up on things like the telly I say "no ash" and he stops, looks at me, throws me the cheekiest smile and gets back down. It's so cute.
Mel, your son is Super Baby! Definitely one to watch in the future, I'm sure he'll be representing Australia in some sport or other! I wish Matthew were doing half of what Ashton's doing.
Lee, hope the next five weeks fly for you. Also hope the morning sickness doesn't get any worse for you (I don't miss that feeling!) and that you're able to enjoy being pampered on Sunday! I received a "Housework Songs III" cd (cheeky beggar!), itunes gift card and a card in the mail today from DP, who is in China for the next couple of weeks. And I bought myself some slippers :P
Tenille and Erin, I hope your bubs are getting better. Matthew's taking ages to get over his cold. But the mucus production seems to have slowed at last! Yes, beware the Vicks baby balsam. Do a google search on it and you'll see the stories on the results of the latest tests they did on it that were being reported in the media a few weeks back.
I'm a little terrified (okay, a lot) about how Matthew will go (and how I'll cope) when I return to work full time on June 1. It's like a train rushing towards me! I'm hoping that Matthew will be eating more solids and be able to do without a breastfeed at lunchtime by then, but it doesn't look that way at the moment. I really wish I'd been able to take the whole of this term off.
Kerry can you express that lunch time feed? Even if you pump after every feed for a few days and get 10ml each time, put it all together and freeze it
Enjoy Matthew not doing anything. Ashton had gone from easy to "crap where is he now, what's he into?!" haha I have just put a babygate up to stop him exiting the loungeroom when I am on here, cos he is either in one of 2 spots... into the kitchen rubbish bin, or watching the clothes go around on the front loader haha

haha mel, Liberty hasn't discovered the rubbish bin yet but she has discovered the toilet and if i put her in the hallway she crawls in their superfast and she sucks on the toilet lid if i'm not fast enough GROSS!!

aww kerry thanks for what you said about how i dress liberty. i have been a bit slack lately but the other day i went through all her clothes and sorted them by outfits. she's like my little dolly except she trashes most of her clothes between reflux, banana stains and being a messy eater!! i'm the same with the toys though. apart from my husband's cousin and their little girls we have no other baby stimulation. i bought her an outdoor swing off ebay the other day and she hates it!! she has liked it twice and the other times she's cried, maybe when she's older she'll like it.
i need to join the local aba group here so i have some more social stimulation. i've been in denial thinking our living situation will change but it hasn't. still living out of a small bedroom at my parents place and although hubby's work has continued it's still set to close soon we just don't know when and he's been unsuccessful so far in all his pursuits for a new job. *sigh* on the bright side all my winter clothes are packed away in storage so i've been buying myself lots of new clothes.
We had a good day. Took my mum out for breakfast which was quite nice. My girls gave me a dwarf apple tree which I love. I put it in a pot so I can always keep it.
Lauren, mmmm toilet seat, lol! I love dressing Ashlyn up to. And lucky for me, Danielle is a real girly girl and loves her dresses and pretty hair dos.
Kerry, I'm a bit worried about work too. I go back the same day as you do, but I'm only going part time. I need to have 3 bottles ready for the day so I'm trying to express heaps. I'm going to have to be super organised to get through this.

Erin, how's Emily doing? How did the ultra sound go for your friend. I'm going back to work part time, 2 days a week, so not to bad. Still a bit nervous about it though. Everything seems so different when I have 2 little ones to go home to.
Ashlyn is starting to get over her cold, though it was a pretty bad one. Poor thing looked terrible with pale skin, red and puffy eyes and bright red cheeks. I've been getting almost no sleep all week. DH has been doing his best to help, but he does work a bit. I think she might sleep tonight though, it's 8.30pm and she hasn't stirred.
Emily doesn't have croup the doc thought it was just a build up of mucus (gross) but gave her some anitbiotics anyway. Man they are hard to give her. She hates medicine. I hate giving it to her too. I wasn't keen on her being on meds so early but she seems to be getting better so they must be working.
And my BF got the all clear! Thank goodness. Just cysts.
Lauren- your living arrangements sound hard I hope Brett finds another job soon.
I hope everyone had a good mother's day...mine was pretty ordinary without DH but what can you do. Emily gave me a little sleep in (7am) so that was good.
I'm totally exasperated with myself and even more worried now about going back to work full time. I just don't know how to feed Matthew his milk feeds during the day without me being there and breastfeeding him.
Last night I sterilized bottles and the trusty breast pump, ready for today because I thought I'd better see if he'll manage a bottle of milk, trialling the new teat I'd bought that's suitable for 6 month olds and a sippy cup type top for Avent bottles. Both applications were a total failure. He chewed the teat with his sharp little teeth, wouldn't suck on it at all, sang and talked to the bottle then cried. Then I tried the sippy cup type attachment, nothing seemed to come out of it and he was hungry, so more crying. Not wanting to waste 140ml of breastmilk, I used about 90ml of it to make up some rice cereal and he ate that up. Then I put the left over milk in a normal sippy cup and he gargled it and splashed it around. So then I simply took the top off the cup and basically poured it slowly into his mouth and watched it pour out again. And about 15 minutes later he was giving me his signs that he wanted another feed (whinging, nuzzling and chewing on my clothes) so I've just breastfed him to sleep.
What am I to do???? I'll clean up the mess now and resterilize everything and try again tomorrow, I guess. And keep trying. I don't know what I was expecting to happen when Matthew hasn't had a bottle for six months. I feel like I'm going to have to teach him how to use a bottle again and it just feels so wrong.
And tomorrow and Thursday I'm going to try to drop him off at the carer's house at 8:15am for an hour to find out how organised I'm going to have to be....
Hugs Kerry! I'm not really sure what you can do. I guess perservere (sp?) and maybe try smaller amounts so you don't waste any precious EBM. Have you started another thread on the Feeding section?
Kerry, it so hard isn't it. What I found with Ashlyn was that she wouldn't take the bottle from me, but will take it quite happily from another person if I'm not there. So basically if she can see me, she will expect booby and refuse the bottle.

Thanks, Erin and Tenille. Good advice. I'll take ebm around to the carer's tomorrow and if he still won't take it from her in a bottle, then it will just have to go into rice cereal or Bellamy's iron enriched porridge. I'll post in the feeding section too.
How are your girls going? Over the worst of their colds?
Eireann is not well poor thing high temps the last two days but she is still feeding well but is really really out of sorts today and I had a crappy night sleep last night. so waiting on DH to come home and decide what to do about a doctor
Kerry I agree with the some one else having more luck with getting a bottle in to him I used to do it for my mam with my little sister my mam had her after breast cancer so she had only one breast and when my little sister was about 3 months or may older she was worried about her putting on weight so when I came in from school I used to give her a bottle LOL and she would take it from me and not my mam. also my DS3 Shane would only take a bottle from my sister who minded him for me when I worked so good luck and I hope it works for you. last thing you need to worry about

Tenille, how's Ashlyn going? Is she on the improve? Have you already started storing EBM? I've discovered how much pumping hurts when your nipples are raw from sharp little teeth! Ouch. Lansinoh has come out tonight.
Lauren, that's funny about Liberty and the toilet lid! Matthew isn't crawling but he rolls and gets himself to where he wants to be anyway, one moment he's on his mat and the next he's trying to chew on the telephone line to the modem. Which is now safely out of reach.
Still haven't conquered the bottle feeding issue but Monday will be the test when I go to work for five hours and leave Matthew with the carer. Will give the carer some EBM in a bottle to give to him and see how he goes. If there's a problem, she can call me and I'll go around and breast feed him. The MCHN advised me to give him yoghurt and sticks of hard cheese and to persevere with the cup. She said she would be less concerned if Matthew were having three substantial meals each day but he's not reached that point. So either I come to some arrangement with the school where I'm teaching, to slip out at lunchtime to breast feed him or delay going back to work until next term. She also pointed out that my circumstances are a bit more difficult in that I don't have a partner at home of an evening to help. I'll end up stressed, exhausted and my supply might dry up. Cheery thoughts, hey. I'm thinking that going back part time, three days a week might be a compromise. And I had his measurements done and his 8 months stats are: 9.74kg bare weight, 73cm long and head circumference 46.5cm.
Niamh, hope Eireann is doing better. Did you end up taking her to the doctors?

I've storing EBM, but it has been hard as I only seem to get 10 -20ml a time. I need to have 3 bottles available per day though 4 would be better because overtime is not uncommon. DH has suggested giving up the BFing because he knows it's going to get hard, but I'm really not ready to do that I hope you can work things out with the school to BF during lunch time. That would be a great way to go, but given time maybe Matthew will get used to drinking from the cup?
Ashlyn has started really moving around now. She is not quite crawling, but she has some forward movement happening. She absolutely loves her food and eats anything and everything I put in front of her! But despite eating so much, she still isn't putting on any weight. She is now 67cm and 8.4kg no clothes. I wonder is she is going to be a lot smaller than her sister. Oh well, I'm off to try and get some sleep. Goodnight
Tenille, what hours do you work? I hope you don't have to give up breast feeding either. Maybe Ashlyn's not putting on much weight because she's so active? The MCHN told me yesterday that their weight tends to plateau a little at this age for that reason. Instead of being in the 95th/90th percentile, Matthew is now in the 80th/75th for weight and height. Big head though! Bucketnut! Glad Ashlyn's much better. The runny nose makes for a sticky encounter when breast feeding, doesn't it.
I alternate weeks with day and arvo shifts. Days are 7am - 5pm and nights are 5pm - 3am. The weight gain thing doesn't bother me, she still has really cute chubby thighs. She was actually over the top of the chart and is now in the 50th, but I believe the charts are based on FF and not BF bubs. She certainly is very active now. DH has to learn not to leave his work files lying around, LOL.
Firstly sorry for not been around lately. I have been sick for what feels like forever and had bloods done but everything healthy. Am on antibitoics to clear a sinus infection and slowly feeling human. Of course Xavier got his first tooth in the middle of me being sick so I got little sleep (I dont remember DD suffering so much at night with her teeth).
Xavier started crawling about a month ago and he is into everything. He is also pulling himself to standing and climbing steps. Argghhhh I get no time to get anything done he seems to have dropped a daytime sleep and I am lucky if I get 2 x 1 hr blocks.
I dont know what to suggest on the whole bottle thing. Xavier hasnt taken a bottle of EBM. I tried when he was 4 wks old and also tried others giving the bottle to no avail. I have tried every type of bottle and teat going with no success. I even tried to give him some in a cup but got nowhere.
I think I will have a booby loving munchkin forever at this rate.
He is not taking to solids very well either. He hates puree and shuts shop after one spoonful. He loves finger food but is forever gagging and really isnt eating much so his main supply of food is milk.
I was hoping he would start dropping a feed and slowly wean himself off but cant see it happening like it did with his sister at 13mths.
I will keep trying the solids. I am currently being woken every 2 hrs at night which I am sure is down to this pesky tooth which just seems to be hanging just under the skin about to cut through at any minute. I keep praying so I can get some sleep back. I would love a night where I get to sleep all night. Not had one yet.
My BF returned a couple of weekends back. It was very inconsiderate as I was camping. At least it stayed away for a while this time with DD it came back after 6wks even though I was breastfeeding.
Anyway hope everyone is feeling better from all these colds that are going round. Niamh I worry big time with fevers as my DD had a febrial convulsion back in the UK when she was 19mths old and it was scary. We were rushed in by ambulance and I never want to go through that again so I am constantly checking temps with an ear thermometer and I always carry panadol and nurofen around with me just in case. Xavier's temps with his teeth only get to 38 my DD always went to 41+ which was scary.
I was told to strip them down, take them outside if it was cool, give panadol and then alternate with nurofen every couple of hours to keep it down.
Good luck to the girls going back to work. I am lucky I dont need to go to work yet as dont know that I could since Xavier wont take a bottle or food either.
Will try and be around more often. Enjoy whats left of the weekend.
Its been a while since I've managed to get in here, can't believe how the time flys.
Well like many of you I'm in the process of heading back to work, I still had 3 mths left before I was due but in order to get this job I have to start now. I've got orientation at the child care centre tomorrow morning, I really don't know how I will cope it was easier with my first but this one well I'm so dependant on her being around all the time, I've managed to add up that I have only spent a matter of hours away from her since she was born & now I'll be doing that almost every day.
Madeleine hasn't gained much weight in her last check she is still under 8kgs but shes grown so long that shes in the 90th percent so her clothes are starting to become a problem but we are have just bought a whole heap of size 1s so hoping they stay on her hips
Anyway, I have a months worth of posts to catch up on... hope everyone is well & bubs are growing up wonderfully

Eireann was very sick her temps wouldnt go away and I just knew it was more than the teeth we took her to the care doc emergency after hours service and she had an ear infection in both ears poor thing. it was hard going she wouldnt let me put her down at all and I had so much on this weekend didnt know if we should give it all a miss or what but luckily her medicie kicked in, had a few problems as it made her sick if she didnt have solids with it. but happy to say she is much better and back to her happy little self we had a strange night out saturday, I think most of you know what happened between some friends and us. I wont bore you all with the details but they were pretty awful to us and tried to rob us. but he (the x friend) came back to Ireland for a wedding in March and spread a load of lies about us well not sure exactly what was said yet but we had to go out to our first event with my DH friends and we were nervous to say the least wondering if we be shunned or welcomed and we were welcomed and some even told us they didnt believe the stuff being said. it was a relief so glad for my DH . gas thing is we know stuff on him and we have kept quite and if we opned our mouths we cause a mountain of trouble for him. plus he was here alone and was cheating on his wife and she is pregnant. I dont like the girl she is evil but still nasty behavior. she will find out some day her self im not even going to go there with that information.
joh117 they are so scary my friends little lad has had a couple of them and had to have some test after like that she has loads of stuff with her just in case.
