My routine : i dont have one!!!! And i wish everyone would stop telling me to get one.. where from Target?? Are they on special this week>>> Can someone tell my son!! Ok rant over - thanks for listening !

Alexander will sleep all day if i let him.. He is so lazy so under advise from the clinic nurse i am waking him every 3 hours during the day for a feed to help with my milk supply .. If i dont wake him he has gone for 6 hours without a feed and then at night has decided that he likes to nibble every 2 or so hours.. So my me waking him for a feed during the day he gets more food and is more settled of a night.. i am trying to get him to go 4-5 hours like he did last week!

Caddie - i hope Ruby is more settled for you tonight..

And for everyone..what are you going to do about birth control?? i dont see my Ob for another couple of weeks but i am trying to think about what we are going to do.. We didnt use anything after having Olivia as we wre happy to fall pregnant and it took almost 2 years to fall anyway! Maybe would could just do quick draw! only i am not ready for my 3rd child just yet!

Oh LittleP, I am longing for some sort of routine, I just like to know what to expect!
As for birth control, before this I was on the pill and hadn't realised how much it had killed my sex drive til I decided to take a break (hence River :p). So never again for the pill!
So I think I will be stuck for options too...not the biggest fan of condoms...hmm.

Oh Skorpy & Caddie, hope your bubbas are good for you tonight! Wonder what River will be like tonight...I can hear him fussing in his sleep, we'll see if he stays asleep or if it progresses to 'feedmefeedme'..

He is filling his nappy during feeds, so I'm changing him afterwards, which wakes him up :rolleyes: Reckon I should offer more booby to settle him afterwards? How exhausting is feeding?!

Thanks for that about the demand feeding girls! Another question!!
What do you do re: sides? Wait til they're done with one and then offer the other? I was planning on that, but often he falls asleep after a feed! So then I'm not sure what side to offer next time...I know it's early days yet, and perhaps we'll establish more of a pattern, but I'm curious to know what you guys do with your bubbas :)

By the way, your Frosty Fruit comment made me smile Maz, that would feel so nice, til I realised how sticky I was! Think I'll stick to eating them..

Nelle - re swapping sides... if River fills his nappy during feeds, try changing his nsppy before swapping t the other boobie, that way he is awake again

Morning girls, 5am here :) just waiting for Julia to settle to sleep before I go back to sleep. I didnt come on yesterday had a crap day too, she didnt settle twice for 4-5 hours yesterday.. She wouldnt sleep though. I hope Julia grows out of the 2 x 5 hour non settled periods throughout the day and then last night had a huge arguement with DH, I wrote a post in relationships if anyone wants to see.

Nelle - my lactation consultant told me to wait until they are done with one breast then offer the other one for dessert LOL. Usually Julia takes one for 30mins (shes a slow feeder) and other for about 15-20mins.

Caddie - big hugs mate, I know how you feel re Ruby not settling... we tried so many things yesterday you never guess what settled her from not crying, lying in her rocker looking at our bookcase, must be the colours of the books? I dont know LOL.

LittleP - hello! we used to be routine feeding every 4 hours, but it seems now that we are every 2-3 hours now, shes more hungry so I have decided to demand feed her instead as her weight is very important as she is below average at the moment, fingers crossed at her next appointment on Wed when she is weighed she has improved heaps.

Maz - thanks so much for your support mate, I really appreciate it, do you think that your periods are coming back? was going to ask you anyway when you have a c/s when do they come back? man im not looking forward to getting them again I can assure you!

Skorpy - good to see you! wow at your long feeding session and settling you must be shattered.. hope you can get some sleep. Hugs to you.

Jodi - Nina is so cute love her pics. Julia sucks everything when shes hungry too her hands, arm, wrap and when she was on DH's chest the other day she went for his nipples LOL it was so funny I couldnt stop laughing!

Chrissy - I love your new ticker and pic! its great. Caitlyn is such a sweetie! How you doing?

ChrissyT - wow I have a daytime waker and nighttime sleeper. I hope you get some sleep during the day hon. Its great that bathtime settles her, bathtime doesnt really settle Julia at all.

Mel - thats great you are catching up on your sleep :) I wish I could, I feel I never have enough. Maybe today I can catchup.

Ah for some reason my little monkey has decided not to settle this morning. Its 3:30am and he is wide awake after a feed. I have been using wind drops which have made all the difference in his fussing when feeding but we still have our moments.

nelle - when Nina fills her nappy during a feed, I stop her, change her, then put her back to the breast. She hates a dirty nappy and won't feed until it's off!! Not sure if it'll work for you, but does for us.
re: changing sides - Nina will feed for about 15-20 min one on side and will completely drain that, I then burp her and offer the second side. Very rarely will she take the other side, and if she does, then it's like dessert, as Belle said! Nina was a very sleepy baby in the first 3 weeks, but if she was hungry she'd let me know. Then after 3 weeks, she 'woke up' and hardly sleeps at all during the day.
And yes, it does get better!

little*princess - I went on the mini pill last week, although I'm hopeless when it comes to remembering to take them and keep forgetting! Before that we weren't using anything.

caddie & skorpy - hope things settled down for you guys and you got some rest.

Not much happening this side of the world with us ... Nina is feeding much more during the day, still have my fingers crossed she'll start sleeping through the night soon. Have a good day girls, and babies, be good to your mothers!

Last night Xander decided that 2 hourly feeds throughout the night would be a good idea, and that was after he went on a cluster feeding frenzy early in the evening! He better be having a BIG growth spurt with all this food! I'm so tired this morning tho, be sooo nice if babies had an 'off' switch (or do they and I haven't found it? and hints where to find it girls?)

AnnaT - Glad to hear things seem to be going a bit better for you now!

Belle - I wish Xander slept after 5am! LOL.. he wakes up at 4.30am ready to start his day! I've just been going to bed earlier so that I can be half human at that time of the morning. Be nice to catch up with you, I'm off to see the CHN this morning to get bubs weighed!

Dont worry anna,ruby was grizzly from 4am to 6am.She then went and had a sleep and then my 22month old decided it was time for me to get up.I cant win either way.
Looks like a crappola day in perth,well in safteybay anyway as its windy and cold looking.
I have put a curry in the slow cooker too.

You can easily use prefolds on a small bubba if you wanted to started using cloth already... what are you planning on using? Flats or modern cloth?

hi girls well I fed Julia at 8am must have put her nappy on 1/2 asleep she weed all over my triangle pillow :( LOL now she hasnt settled at all, I have put her in her rocker and sung to her bouncing on the fitball, the poor chicken needs some sleep..oh well only 2 hours until her next feed, I think I will just feed her earlier.

and the weather is crappy in the middle! well we had a crap afternoon yesterday, ainsleigh was so overtired but would not go to sleep. she had terrible tummy pains and vomits. everytime she fell asleep she would wake up ten minutes later. finally at about 10pm i took her in to bed for a cuddle... i left the light on as i can't sleep with a light on... and she woke me up at 4.30am still asleep in my arms. she has just woken up again now at 8.45 as soon as i get on here! of course i was hoping to be out early today... always the way. we are going to the paed today to see if there is anything he can recommend for her vomiting.

morning girls

i am using cloth nappies, good old flats, my god when caitlyn poo's it certainly makes a huge mess, but i have a husband that gets off on rinsing them before they go into soak.......yes i know how weird........so i keep all the dirty ones for him.

i just got rid of my parents, they invited themselves here for 3 days, mind you i got rid of my kids for the school holidays on the weekend.......then my parents arrived.....we had planned on having 2 weeks by ourseves with caitlyn, now craigs brother and family are coming up this weekend to have a holiday for a week............SO MUCH FOR OUR PEACEFUL 2 WEEKS!!!

i better go i can smell sh*t and she is screaming

Hi all,

Things aren't going too badly here, we're lucky Ashleigh has her unsettled time in evening and slept well overnight. Df and I just took turns to settle her when she got upset and i think i gave quite a few comfort feeds then finally by 8:30 she settled, fed at 10:00 then slept til 1:40 then didn't wake again til 5:40 so got some decent sleep in.

As for routines, i don't really have one, I just make sure at night I only put the night light on don't talk to her or anything just change nappy and feed her then in the day chat to her make noises etc so she knows nighttime is for sleep and daytime for play.
I find though after play she has difficulty settling, I usually have to feed her again and then let her cry little bit to settle.

As for birth control i don't want to go back on the pill cause it makes me so nauseated for 2 months and considering we didn't have sex that often it wasn't worth it. i told Df the best way is to not have any sex. I said after that labour I don't want to get preg again. I suppose when time comes we will use condoms but I can't see that far down the track yet.

About sides for BFing. I only ever use one side, Ashleigh on average spends about 20 mins and I check the boob to see if its empty or she's just had enough and I always express something so i know she hasn't completely emptied that side.

i just found my contact list, and i had merries contact as vicky........but we havent heard from vicki for a few months.......so that could be why we havent heard anything!

as for the contraception question, craig informed me yesterday that he is using the withdraw method, i just laughed at him, looked at Caitlyn and told him that what we used last time, and look at what we produced........hehehe. so he will have to think a bit more about that one.

better go and shower!!

Girls, I cant believe you are already talking about doing the deed. Got to say hasnt crossed DH's mind much and after last nights issue about our relationship Im not real keen.

Just got home this morning and my little boy is just gorgeous. So very glad that I scraped into September, I really didn't think I was going to make it. I had a very quick and relatively easy water birth which I was hoping to do and I highly recommend it for being more gentle on your bits. I've hardly got any pain at all except for the dreaded afterpains.

Samuel is doing well. He is adjusting to my milk coming in at the moment but is feeding well and pretty much just sleeps between feeds. Early days yet I know.

Will try to catch up on all the posts and do some personals soon. I hope we hear from Merrie soon.

Hi Pip, welcome home.

I am SOOOOO tired! DH and I stayed up watching Poseidon until 11:30 and then Zain woke up @ 1:30 and then 3:30 and then the garbage truck came at 5:30 and woke all my kids up!!!! I feel so drowsy.\

Maz, congrats on Vy smiling. Zain STILL has'nt smiled except when he's sleeping. And I'm working so hard for it, too, lol! Whenever DH or anyone plays with him, I say " don't you dare make him smile! That first one is MINE!!" OMG, it has to be soon!

Welcome back pip and samuel,the water birth does sound lovely but no more babies for me!
I havnt thought about the deed either! Too tired and too scared it will hurt! Same issues as last time.Be prepare to use lube girls as your bits down there change for a while! Makes the job easier. It will take me a while to feel like it as i have 2 babies that want my attention.Hubby is stuffed himself anyway!

Just wondering girls how much awake time all your bubs have in the day. Ashleigh seems to just catnap most of the day, usually has one good solid sleep of a couple hours otherwise its just 20-30 min naps here and there. And after awake time she is hard to settle to sleep she always needs 5-10 mins on the boob to help her settle, even then as soon as her head touches the bassinet her eyes jump open and i have to pat her to sleep. I look for tired signs to get in at the right time but sometimes I wonder if I'm putting her down when she's not tired or keeping her up when she is. Its all so hard to know what she wants!

Shell, Julia is awake today from 12noon - 3pm and then also doesnt sleep from 4 - 10pm either so thats 9 hours per day of awake time after feeds. I top her up when she doesnt sleep when she crys really hard for 30mins or so. I cant take it any longer. If she is happy and not crying and not looking for breast I will let her play. Oh and I look for the tired signs too but whatever I do it doesnt work so I just have to cuddle her or bounce her on the fitball in my arms to get her to sleep if she wants sleep otherwise she will not sleep...

Belle my little girl is like julia. She would have awake times that go for 3-4hrs!! I thought that new borns were meant to sleep! Otherwise though she will then sleep 3.5 hrs.No longer though.She knows when its food time.
According to tresillian or ngala,babies sleep an average 9hrs at night and 7hrs in the day. And then at 4 months 10hrs at night and 5 during the day. These are interrupted by feeds. They also say they sleep from20min-5hrs.Most bubs sleep between 1 to 3hrs. However 1 of those sleeps in a 24hr period may be up to 6hrs. Hope it helps but all bubs are different.

im still here just been really busy!

savanna is beautiful. she sleeps for 3-4 hours then wakes for a feed and so on.
the only time i have trouble is her midnight feed and 3am ish feeds.. she just doesnt wanna go back to sleep! so im up for a bit trying to get her to sleep. her eyes are wide awake with no signs of closing heheehe.
lucky for me mum has been staying with us at nights to help me out but she goes back to work next week :(

im trying to b/f during the day and have to give formula at night as im still not gettin enough milk. she has gotten used to the bottle and will not latch on so i have to use a nipple shield and even with that she sometimes gives trouble. its pretty stressful but im hanging in there. id love to fully b/f but my milk supply is not enough :( and it doesnt help when you get pressured from others to b/f ! grrr

My bubba is much more awake at night! Rans kept him awake today for a bit, just playing and bathing him, but he's been asleep for about 4 hours now...

Ooh typing like a bandit, I can hear him starting to cry!!

Anna, the cloth is still part time, Rans put the BumGenius on him today and it was SOO cute, and fit him really well, might have to get some more of those! Flannel was a disaster, but that was cos I had trouble pinning it after folding it down, his cord fell off last night though, so it might be easier now!

Got Coby (birth support/student midwife) coming tomorrow which will be nice, and also the community nurse, so looks like a big day.

Oh...found out that DH is starting work at 8 instead of 6:30 tomorrow, which means he'll be home after 4...was really looking fwd to him being home by 2:30 :( now the day will seem so much longer..

Better go and cry with my baby. Hope everyone's doing well, hopefully I'll grab a moment later and be more cheery xo

Hi girls, some of you are sounding a bit down and i just wanted to say that it does get easier. As they start to become more aware of their surroundings they will occupy themselves with learning about their environment. I remember with my first daughter feeling that she'd be hanging off my boob forever, lol.

so he is unable to breath properly.took him to the Doctors yesterday and I cant do anything for him because hes only just over 2 weeks old. So I have to sit and watch my poor little mite struggle to breath,so you can imagine what its like when hes drinking his milk. I feel so useless :(

Skorpy, can you run the hot water in the bathroom with all the doors and windows shut, turn the water off then take him in there. Apparently the steam is really good for decogestion. Just check with your GP, but it will get things moving so he can breathe, the poor little thing.

Lol Caddie, I get all resentful when I see River sleeping so peacefully in the daytime! Because I'm so scared it'll make him feral at night! Ah well.

Thanks for the encouragement Nat, no matter how prepared you try to be, nothing prepares you for how draining a baby is!! It's nice to know it gets easier.

Oh and Caddie, eat them frosty fruits up, I still am!! And if Dh tries to come home without a frozen coke tomorrow..well, he's not coming in! :p

Came back from the Doctors earlier today and then just came on to read this,and you have said the exactly the same thing as what the Doctor advised me. :)

I will give it a go,she also gave me some nose drops,but it is just sterilized water,see how that gos.

well caitlyn actually sleep in her bassinette last night for 3 hours.......yeh.......thats a first so i got a bit of lovin with DH:kiss: ........hehehe.

nelle, i usually feed her watching tv, but daytime telly, and late night time, always sends me to sleep, cause its just crap im sitting watching, but sometimes i sit on the computer and read posts while she feeds.

im going down to pick up my cot thats at mums today, im hoping she might sleep in that as i have one of those music, come flashing lights mobile and she loves it when i change her bum, it settles her so much, so i hope it works on the side of the cot.

OMG I have had the worst day yesterday, I thought she would settle at 6pm but nooooooo she was awake from 12 midday to 10.30pm last night, how on earth was she not tired? is this normal? I was at my wits end.. Thankfully after an 11pm feed she finally fell asleep and didnt wake up til 5.30am this morning, do you think this is going to be like this every day? I hope she will settle now I have just put her in her cot.. We are going to the childhood centre this morning to get her weighed and I will ask them a few questions today. Last week breastfeeding was much better this week its crap again she wont open her mouth enough to latch on all the time..Ive tried everything sigh.

OMG ... Please don't hit me girls, but Nina slept through the night YAY!!!!!! She was cluster feeding like you wouldn't believe last night for about 5 hours and I thought my boobs were going to fall off. Then finally went to sleep at 9.30 and woke up at 6am, fed then back to sleep!

belle - Nina went through a 'growth spurt' at 3 weeks and I thought I was going to die ... no sleep, fussing lots at the boob, cranky and crying lots etc etc. Then when she stopped she started waking only once a night and was awake almost the whole day. It does get easier!!

hey girls,

i feel like crap. never got any sleep monday night cause i was up with akira who has an ear infection again. im glad simon was home he took riley so i could just take care of akira.

last night was alright had some sleep but still feels like it wasnt enough as i have a bad headache.

sounds like everyone is doing ok.

well im off to do the bottle and have a shower while they are both asleep.
