Woo Hoo Noni, enjoy your "me" time.
HI everyone
thankyou for my birthday wishes :) i have had a lovely day. Dh always makes sure that i get spoiled.
I started getting a little down about getting closer to 40 (36 now ) then i looked at my girls and thought, who cares what the numbers are, i'm happy and love my family to bits - they keep me feeling young :)
have to say that when i'm out and feeding i drape a muslin wrap over my shoulder. (mainly to cover my flabby belly!!) Never used to with Jess and Zoe, but maybe i'm a little bit more conscious of it now.
LP - those little girls are so lucky to have an Aunty like you. What a fantastic christmas it will be.
noni- glad you got a little bit of catch-up sleep.
pregpan - welcome back - i'm glad that Noah was the perfect little travelling companion
sherie - sounds like you've got lots of celebrations this week - i love this time of the year :)
katie - i bought some of those sunnies for a friend's baby for christmas. i hope she is as happy wearing them as Logan is.
Queenie - did your fil know that he was flashing his bits at you?
Cally - your poor dh - i bet he is looking forward to his holiday. He must be feeling really exhausted - and missing the contact with his girls.
md - you still look like a young chicky though ;)
hi Bilby - congratulations and welcome :)
hi to anyone i've missed
HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAZMUM!!!!!!!! (Knew I forgot something in the earlier post!) In response to your q, no, FIL had no idea - it was 1.30am and he was returning to their room from the bathroom. Thank god I didn't get up two seconds earlier or I would've copped an eyeful of his wang before he turned the corner :cryinglaugh: Miss S is doing well, thanx for asking - she is smiling more & more each day and has managed to have a few 5-6hr sleeps at night!!
LP good luck!
hey Queenie - thank goodness for that!!! now i'm going to have the song " every body have fun tonight - everybody Wang Chung tonight" on my brain!!!!!
Woohoo to little miss Katie who slept until 5am this morning!! First time in 9 nights I haven't had to get up twice.
DH still sick, will head off to the chemist to get some more hydrating stuff this morning.
Pregpan - how did Noah sleep last night - is he still doing his 11-12 hours? I bet it was good to get home and back in your own space.
Shower time!
Cally, grab him some charcoal capsules while you are there, they bind the toxins and help remove them from the gut. Good luck, I bet you're sick of all the pineocleening! I hope he's feeling better soon...
Jazmum, *sings* everybody Wang chung tonight hehehe. Cracked right up when I read that.
Miss E is grizzly as today, of course DH has left AGAIN and I'm up to my neck in things I've got to get done, she'd better SLEEP later on or else! (or else I'll be a quivering wreck LOL). *Sigh* I can't believe they keep sending him away. Next weekend too. It's interfering with my Christmas preparations.
ETA - Moment of truth today at dieticians - gastro ought to have helped that along :o ! How have all the WWers been going?
good morning all!!
Cally - Yaaayy for Katie!! Are you finding that you feel more tired when you have slept more? I know that it sounds a little crazy, but i'm more tired when Hannah sleeps through, than when i get up through the night.
Marydean - you poor thing!!! How long is he away for? Is he far? Right before Christmas too - i hope Miss E sleeps beautifully for you today :)
Morning Ladies,
Jazmum- I am glad you had a wonderful birthday.
MD- Sorry about DH going away what a bummer.... Good Luck at the dietician...
Cally- I hope you DH is feeling better soon and Good Going Katie lets hope for tonight too.
Noni- Things do get easier as they get older. I hope you enjoyed your mumma time.
Hello to everyone else and hope you all have a wonderful day.
As for me I am at work today then off tomorrow then back at work wednesday then break up day on thursday... Yippeee then Holidays.....
Morning all
Leanne woo hoo for holidays. How long off do you get?
MD good luck with the weight loss.
Cally yay on Katie sleeping, fingers crossed it stays that way, at least for a little while.
So does everyone have a new years resolution??
Katie- 2 weeks holidays for me.
New Years: What are you doing? We are just staying a home this year and a good chance I will be snoozing at 12. lol...
New Years - will be a quiet one, we are planning on travelling up to Canberra on New Years Day (avoid the crazies on the road). I've never been one for New Years anyway. No resolutions for me either.
MD - DH has lost 3kgs so far. Hope the dietician's is good today. Sleeping vibes to Miss E.
K is asleep, sideways in the cot with her feet hanging out between the bars. So cute.
Jazmum - I do feel a bit more tired today than I ought to. Weird. But I have fudge and fruitcake to make for people so no time for naps!!
cally - ohhh i wanna see her little feet sticking out the bars how cute!!
leanne - we are having that couple with their bub i mentioned earlier over for new years and maybe a few others just a quiet one
katie - nope havnt thought of a new years resolution it usually includes lose weight lol
md - lol ww i havnt been in weeks and i am sure i have put it all back on possibly plus more but i cant afford to go to meetings atm coz of christmas and i really lose motivation when i dnt have the weekly thing to go to hoping to start going again in the new year...
Cally, yay for some good sleep.
Leanne, I bet you can't wait for those holidays to come around. Did you end up attempting santa photos with the boys?
Ozstar, no particular New Years resolutions here, just the normal diet one that I still haven't got around to from 2002.
Is it o.k for his little joints for W to be weight bearing? He wants to stand all the time, if I hold his hands in front of him he will stand up straight and support his own weight. He can only last a minute or two at a time before he wobbles and collapses but he wants to stand every chance he gets.
katie - my new years resolution is to make sure that i keep in regular contact with my friends. I'm not really one for chatting on the phone (and i don't often have the time) but i'm going to make the effort. Oh, and lose weight :(
We're still trying to find something to do for New Years. A lot of our friends are going to be away, so it might be a quiet night in (much to DH's disgust)
Arte - Hannah likes to do that as well. I'm sure that a couple of minutes at a time won't do any damage.
Arte Logan has been doing the same thing for a while now. I figure a few minutes here and there shouldnt matter. He gets frustrated if we try to stop him.
arte - ash loves the standing thing she often cries when i stop holding her up lol...
Art- Oh what a crack up with trying to get all 3 kids to sit on santas lap. The boys really wanted to do it when we were lining up but when it was our turn that was another story so in the end we only have a photo with Olivia. The boys just stood back and waved to him oh and took the pressie he was handing out. lol.... May be next year oh but by then Olivia wont want to sit on his lap knowing my kids. hehehehehe or should that be hohohohohoho.
leanne - good on you for not forcing them!! i see lots of kids in the shops screaming on santas lap trying to get away with their parents screaming at them trying to hold them there while the lady takes what is inevidably a horrible picture!!!
Lol leanne, I guess a photo of O by herself is better than one of them all screaming. I don't envy you getting twin toddlers and a bub through the mall christmas crowds.
I thought the standing thing was o.k, teach me to listen to nosey old ladies at the bus stop.
Art/Noni: I not been game to go shopping by myself with all 3 yet. Usually I take DH on weekends and either have both boys standing in a trolley and O in a single pram or take double pram and have X and O in pram and Jordy is on Daddy shoulders. We dont really let them walk as they will want to do it all the time and have the temptation of running a muck. This would stress me way too much running around after both of them going in different directions and have O in toe too. May be when they are older. lol.
Arte the nosy old ladies probably remember kids with bendy legs from a nutrient deficiency disease called ricketts. Back in the bad old days when lots of ppl didn't have enough food. E loves standing up too but can only hold herself for a few seconds before getting a death wobble LOL!
Leanne, cracked right up reading about your boys only wanting the present but not to sit on that scary old man's knee! Can't blame them really...It'd be nice if they all get it together at least one year, if not you could always photoshop them in LOL we did that with the calendar we're making for the Grandparents LOL.
Dietician's was good, 2 whole kgs down woohoo! Now if I can only maintain that over Christmas...haha what are the chances of that?
Cally your poor DH, I recovered a lot quicker than that, I bet he had food poisoning, did you find out what the pathogen was?
Heho ho ho Sherie, MIA, busy with your Christmas preps!
Ooops better go get the daughter from school...
MD, congrats on your weight loss.
I haven't got a santa photo yet. There is one at the local shopping centre that has three pics for $10 but every time I go there the santa is tiny. He is like an out of work jockey or something. I want a decent chubby santa.
Hey Everyone :)
Our first night with the girls went pretty well, Scarlet so did not want to go to sleep last night - She was loving all the attention.
I spent yesterday afternoon playing "hairdressers" with them because they had really bad headlice...i know kids get headlice but not like this, they had what i'd describe as 'nests' of lice.. Poor kids it must have been driving them nuts being so itchy!
We have just come back from the GP & have appointments with hearing & behavioural specialists... I wasn't going to take them to anyone about behaviour but i need help as it become evident last night the eldest needs to talk to someone, she keeps saying things like 'I don't deal with men' & when my brother called to speak to her last night she told me 'I'm not talking to him, i hate men'- I didn't know where it was coming from until she started talking about her mother's girlfriend 'kitty cat', I had no idea - She's in a lesbian relationship now - which is fine, but not when you teach your daughter to say things like that. We were pretty shocked at first but we're trying not to let her see that it phases us, that's probably not the best thing to do but i really don't know how to approach this one.
Cally ~ Yay! Glad you got to have an unbroken sleep :) I hope your DH is feeling better soon
Congratz on the weight loss MD!***Back away from the christmas ham*** hehe - I PM'd you back, just incase you didn't see the flashing thinger up the top - I always miss it lol.
I have no resolutions, never keep them anyway, usually by new years morning my resolution is 'I will NEVER drink again'... we don't have any plans, i will probably still be cleaning the house after our massive xmas.
leemar ~ I think it's a legendary effort that you even leave the house! lol Those boy's must keep you on your toes!
LMAO @ Your tiny Santas Art! - I still haven't had Scarlet's done because i can't find a Santa that doesn't look like he needs an AA meeting or has just escape from a mental assylum.
Ah, sorry another massive post.
LP, I am so glad those girls have you. It makes me so sad when kids imitate parents that are less than ideal. I really hope that with your positive influence they start reaching their potential. They are really lucky to have an aunt like you.
lp maybe u could casually ask her what about men she hates? and talk about posititive things about the men around you.. shes probably heard lots of man bashing from both of them by the sounds of it maybe hearing the other side might help just causually now n then talk about good things men in your life do for u n why thats special etc... wow ur so mature n responsible taking all this on i am the same age and with a newborn dnt think id be coping as well as you are bravo!!!
Jazmum - Glad you had a nice day for your birthday. :)
Katie - I dont really have a new yrs resolution, apart from exercising more. Its the same every yr! Before Maddie I was at the gym every 2nd day, but no time these days. And no plans yet for new yrs, probably just sleep!!
Leemar - I wouldnt be leaving the house to go shopping without DP either! Its hard enough for me with one!
Hayley - Oh no head lice are such a pain! I remember my mum spending so much time on our hair when we were younger (i have 2 sisters) getting rid of lice. Then we'd be clean and one would catch it again and we'd all have it. Such a mission!! I hope you can get rid of them and keep them away. How long do you think the girls will be with you for?
Maddie has been sleeping really well lately, however does anyone else have problems with putting bubs down to sleep and they are really unsettled until their next feed iykwim? Maddie is usually fed, bathed and in bed by 7, but is very unsettled, I have to keep going in an popping the dummy back in place. This goes on until around 8.30 - 9.00 when I top her up and then she goes to sleep perfectly with no hassle. Am I doing something wrong!? :D
ETP Hayley just had to add, I second what Noni says, I'm around the same age and dont think I could cope. You are doing so well! I guess you do what you have to do and just get on with it right?
Noni ~ It's only been one night so far, They're still very excited to be here... I'm not sure i'll cope either but i'm sure going to try:) Thanks for the advice.
Hayley ~ Maybe Maddie needs a bigger feed before she goes to bed? Scarlet has a slightly bigger one before she goes down for the night & no top-up. The girls will be with us long-term as far as we know, apparently it's hard for anyone to take them away once they're placed permanently - I have some social workers coming from DOCs on Wednesday to "talk" to us (i suspect it will be more like interrogation) & to check out the house so we will know for sure after that.
wow i sure got a shock looking at schools this avo!!! i want Ash to go to a steiner school looks like itll b a mission @ 6000 a year plus golly gosh!!!
Noni, get ready to chuck out all your plastic toys LOL - they do homemade stuff in Steiner.
LP, the best best stuff for headlice (we've had occasion to trial a few) is the Wild Child gear - you can get it at Woolllies. It's all natural stuff, there's a combing solution which I found really good and there's also a single dose treatment which kills lice for when they're really crawling with them. The comb that comes in the box is by far the best comb we've used too. HTH, they're a pain if you don't get them properly!
Hayley, it's quite normal for babies to have an unsettled time each day. We've had a bit of up and down a few evenings, goes on until a bit later when she finally hits the deep sleep. The more tired she is, the more shennanigans we get (just a theory I'm working on) LOL.
How's everyone's Chrissy preps going...I *still* haven't done my chrissy cards (!) It'll be the last minute like every other year I suppose!
MD - The doctor did nothing on Friday. Told him to take Imodium on Saturday if he still had the diarrohea. He hates taking medication so has only had a few, took one this morning which held if off until about 1/2 hour ago. So he has had 4 days of diarrohea. The chemist didn't have any charcoal tablets today, will try another one tomorrow. He needs a certificate if he isn't back at work on Wednesday so I think he needs to try and go to the doctor tomorrow, but he doesn't see what the point is as there is nothing they can do for him.
gosh its been screamfest here!! it did look like ashas teeth were going back down iykwim? but the way shes been screaming i stuck my (freshly washed) fingers in there to feel around and theres a few lumps eeek i bet we spend months of them going up and down before they actually break through its driving me crazy!!!
md - yeah i know lol their quite hippyish lol but i think its a nice environment and i want private education without sending her to a catholic school its just a thought at this point but wow had no idea how much they cost..
cally - thats terrible about ur doc very unhelpful!
Noni, I'm fully in favor of steiner schools, would love to have DD1 in them from the beginning (would *really* have suited her personality) but because we have to move around there's no guarantee I could've kept her in the steiner system, I don't think it's good for them to swap into and out of it kwim? Yep pretty exxy. There's one here in ACT and it's around that price too, but you'd be surprised at how non-hippy it actually is, we went to the open day and there were lots of conservative middle class types there. I guess if it's something you really want you've still got a few years yet to plan how you're going to attack it financially.
I haven't checked E's gums but something's up with that child right now, v. unsettled.
Cally, your poor DH, it sounds terrible! He's not having any milk products is he, you can end up with temporary lactose intolerance after gastro which manifests as ongoing diarrhoea. I reckon he'll get some relief from the charcoal if you can find it, the body doesn't absorb it at all so it's not like taking regular medicine.
hi everyone! read through posts 3 hours or so ago and have now forgotten what i've read. just wanted to share what i've been up to today. when i went to see chn at the northside community health centre the week before last, i had mentioned my settling dilemma. she had recommended this day clinic (?) they had called infant feeding support clinic. i said i was interested and she booked me to do this w/c is what i did today. it was SOOO good for me. for the first time ever, max went to sleep not in my arms!!! the chn (who is also rn and midwife) taught me the signs to catch for when max is sleepy already and we got the feed, play sleep routine going! it was one-on-one (or 2 since we've got max) and i was able to try it as soon as i got home and i got max to sleep on the pram and then again on the bouncer.
hayley, one of the things she told me was how hunger and fatigue is a cycle and you have to break the cycle. the bub can't sleep when they're hungry and can't feed when they're tired. so, if she's unsettled, as everyone else has said, it could be that she's not full yet.
i only wish i had been put onto this "clinic" sooner.
Fianne - that's wonderful that the clinic was so beneficial. It must make you feel great knowing that you can get her to have a sleep for you when not in your arms. Where abouts on the northside are you? I'm at Keperra.
i've been making truffles tonight - one of them uses crushed up Werthers Toffee - crushed into fine crumbs. I can't wait to see how they taste. (i'm giving them as a present to our neighbours to apologise for being such a noisy household lol)
hi jazmum! went to the clinic in keperra!! actually live in the gap. maybe we can catch up for coffee one of these days eh?
and yes, it's been a treat. also nice to know that i've got this resource available to me. the chn/rn/midwife also told me before i left that if, after trying this for 7-10 days, i was still having problems, to feel free to go there and book to sit down with someone for an hour to discuss what's troubling me.
Noni - Wow steiner school isnt cheap is it? I would like private education too, but its so expensive! Oh my gosh poor Asha, cant believe she is getting teeth already!
Marydean - Dont think i'll bother this yr with cards! Too hard. I'm going with your theory about babies having an unsettled period during the day, I think 7-9 is Maddies. As long as she sleeps through, i'm happy.
Fianne - Wow that clinic sounds great! Must be such a relief to know you can put her down and she will fall asleep on her own. We are at that point with Maddie as well, except for between 7 & 9 she is soooo unsettled. I'll try her with extra formula, but I well and truly feed her up so dont understand how she could be hungry still? Also I dont want to be feeding her to sleep either iykwim.
Jazmum - The truffles sound great!
Quick question for you all - does anyone still rock/pat their bub to sleep? I've just been using the dummy with Maddie and 99% of the time she drifts off on her own. However I just cheated and patted her to sleep due to her being so unsettled and now I'm stressing!!! Dont want this to become a habit.
Hayley, we still rock & pat to sleep when necessary (ie not all the time, just when particularly unsettled). I'll have a couple of goes at shooshing her down to a dozy state and walk away, if that doesn't then it's rock and pat all the way! Sounds like Fianne might have some really useful tips for us all?
hey fianne - wow, we are close!! we will have to catch up one day
Hayley - i do rock Hannah to sleep sometimes - especially if she is overtired and unsettled. Sometimes i think she just wants to be cuddled. I wouldn't worry about it becoming a habit. Life is too short, and they grow up too fast. Take the time to cuddle them as much as youcan :)
md - yeah they are great and through a bit of saving now and smart money planning later dp and i think we can scrape it in.. education is so important if we were going to sacrifice for anything it would have to be that :)
haley - i still rock or pat ash when shes unsettled or during the day she sometimes gets rocked to sleep in her bouncer if shes grumpy.. its not often i just put her down and come back to put the dummy back in probably only one or 2 sleeps a day and they are usually over night... about the teeth thing i'm not really sure they seem to be coming up and going back down iykwim they arent breaking through yet just giving her lots of greif i can see in some places her gums are quite red and swollen and theres a lump there thats hard (the tooth i assume) poor little thing i have a feeling it will be months before anything actually comes through for her *sigh*
fianne - thats great that the clinic was so helpful!!!
jazmum - yum send some my way lol
