hello everyone- thought i might post in here so that i could catch you all- the babies due in september thread has just about shut up shop (hi queenie!!!)(not surprisingly really!). Anyway, we're just getting ready to head off to hospital for my induction at 3pm. had a really bad night's sleep- too much anxiety, nerves and excitement. still haven't had any contractions or bloody show or anything- it's ridiculuos actually!
so we're gonna head to my dad's to drop the dog off (i've already had a cry, i miss her when i don't see her for a day, let alone 5 days!), then it's off to hospy to meet our little one. can't wait to finally find out what sex it is!
just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone from sep belly buddies for all your support and help over the last few weeks. i honestly don't know how i would've got through this last trimester (especially the two weeks past due date)without you guys (you know who you are!). looking forward to joining this new thread, and getting lots of help and advice about breast feeding and sleeping and all the other things we've got to look forward to. i've got ella's number for her to post my birth announcement, so keep a lookout over the next couple of days. thanks again and i'll speak to you all next week, gracie

well we figured out why she was eating every 2hrs lol coz she wasnt getting enough.. the thicker formula wasnt coming through the teats properly so she was drinking for as long but only getting half as much... as soon as we switched to medium flow teats she was drinking at all and back to her old self again :) got the bottle warmer too which has got to be one of the best inventions ever lol coz we have these little canisters made to store formula sitting inside the bottle so the waters in there and the formulas in tehre seperated from it so when ur ready you open it up tip in the formula shake it up and put it in the warmer for a few minutes and there u go lol makes night time feeding so easy!!!! those canisters are great for going out too saves carrying one of the bulkier containers that fit a few feeds coz they store inside the bottle :)
must put some more pics in my gallery think i will do that now havntuploaded the last few days ones but we have heaps on the pc already hehe so check them out when u get a chance :)
renee - Asha is now drinking around 120 mls every 4hrsish too sometimes a little bit before 4 hrs and at night one feed is a little after 4hrs closer to 5
supab - asha has had a dummy (nuk) from the second day she was at home, she only has it when shes hungry or a little grumpy but i am not worried about it they wouldnt have them for newborns if it wasnt ok thats what i figure anyway
-
LOL Noni, at least you've figured it out now. I have been using 3-6mth teats as he just takes so long to drink when I use the 0-3mth ones. I just use a small thermos with warm water in it for when I am out. I have a divided container for the formula. When making a bottle at home, I put the kettle on for just long enough to get the water to the right temp instead of boiling and then cooling it down.
Gracie, I don't think I'll get a wink of sleep tonight thinking about you hun. We've all come so far together haven't we? I know you will do great and I can't wait to hear the big news.
Chepie, Hello! Don't worry about how often you can get on, just so long as you pop in to let us know how you're all getting on we're happy :)
Pregpan, we don't have a routine as such here, I just bath Alister when he needs it (could be morning or night - I don't bath him everyday ATM as his skin is still a bit dry) and top-n-tail him in between baths. When he is a bit bigger he will have regular night baths. I haven't ever worried about the CD's or anything LOL - we're pretty casual here. I think if you can find something that works really well for you, then stick to it!
Katie, that's a really great pic of Logan in your ticker - are you going to upload some more? Alister is not showing any signs of the dreaded lurgy as yet - I really hope it stays that way.
Hi SupaB, Tia certainly is being a good girl for you. If you want to use a dummy then go for it. I think the whole concept of nipple confusion is a bit of a have really - they know which one is for comfort and which one is for food ;) I have been using a dummy (happy baby brand) since day dot with Alister LOL - after his first big feed in hospital he wouldn't settle without sucking and he was making me sore so I gave it to him.
Leanne, Happy Birthday for today hun. I hope you are more in the mood for a celebration today. The shoes sound like a real score - I am jealous LOL.
Renee, I don't think there would be much difference between them if they are the same brand. Check the ingredients panel on the back, there might be only a few small differences in content.
Marydean, I know that when some babies are born a bit early, they can be really sleepy for a while. I know she wasn't born that early, but if you are someone who tends to gestate for longer than normal (like your first pg) then she may have been a bit earlier kwim? She is otherwise well though you think?
I have a bit of a vent too. Today I went to town to buy some more panadol, eye ointment, cold and flu tabs for DH and some saline at the chemist and it was just my luck that I got the "saturday morning trainee' girl and it took me three times as long to get what I needed as she didn't know where or what anything was and I had to explain it to her in great detail why I wanted what I did. I have nothing against trainees as they all have to learn, but why to they have to work on one of the busiest days of the week?
-
HAPPY BIRTHDAY LEANNE!!! Hope you have a great day with plenty of birthday surprises.
Sherie I know what you mean about having a trainee on durring the busy days, was there someone supervising her? Nothing worse then when you know what you want and just want to get in and out.
Noni good to hear Asha's feeding is sorted. HAd a look at your pics she is gorgeous.
Gracie GOOD LUCK, will be thinking of you. How exciting getting to meet your little bubba today.
Kez how is little Aiden doing?
Pregpan I like the sound of your routine, we don't have a routine just yet butmight start one soon. Probably just bath, play feed and bed or something along those lines.
Will have a go at uploading some pics to the gallery.
Hope your all ahving a fab weekend.
-
Looking forward to seeing some pics Katie!
Sherie - Argh how annoying! We had a trainee today at K-mart, it took us 15-20 minutes to get served. I’ve moved onto the 1-3 month teats too. I’ve been sterilizing the bottles etc, filling them with cooled boiled water, popping them on the shelf and heating the water as needed then adding the formula. But I’ve just read a thread that said you should not only store pre-made formula in the fridge (obviously) but the water too??? Arghhhhh its all so confusing!
Pregpan - I have been recording all of Rory's feeds and he tends to have a big feed between 7:00pm - 8:00pm to I work everything around then. He usually gets a cuddle with daddy, maybe a walk around the block in the pram, a bath if he needs one and then his 7:00pm - 8:00pm feed, cuddles with me and then I pop him into bed. I think we are going out for a bbq tonight and I’m stressing about how he will go without his routine!
Oh and I tried out the sock/shower idea. It was his first shower and he absolutely loved it!! I had a spare pair of brand new bonds fluffy bed socks which worked great to wash him with too :)
Gracie - Ill be thinking of you today. Hope all goes well. Looking forward to hearing from ella!!
Anyone heard from Mbear??????
Marydean - How are you feeling today? Are you having many visitors come around to keep you company??
Had a lovely browse around the shops today. Also managed to sit down and have a creamy hot cocoa from GJ :) Rory was soo wonderful. Oh did I mention that rory slept from 7:00pm - 1:30am Thursday night? Its working out that I am only getting up twice a night and occasionally three to pop his dummy back in.
Hope everyone is having a lovely weekend here. Its a lovely day here. I’m just waiting for Dh to come home.

Renee, maybe I'm a bit blase about the whole sterilising caper, but I have never kept the water in the fridge - I just use it as I need it from the kettle. I used to just boil it when I needed it and then cooled it down to the right temp, but then it was jsut so much easier and quicker to put the kettle on for a few seconds and the water is the right temp straight away. And I don't sterilise the bottles - just the teats and soon I wont sterilise them either. The thing with sterilising is that as soon as you take it out of the steriliser, it isn't sterile anymore. So long as you wash the bottles and teats with hot soapy water then you should never have an issue. I'm a bit funny about pre-making the formula too and prefer to just make it as I go.
Mbear has been on, but not been posting, so I'm thinking that all is well, but she's just too busy to post.

hmmmm water in the fridge??? i have ours straight from the kettle into the bottle and sitting on the bedside table with the formula in the canister inside the bottle and the lids on ready for the warmer lol.. with the day time bottles i have one bottle of boiled water next to the kettle and i use half that and half boiling water to make it the right temp... i do steralise bottles and dummies but i know once they are out its void and they sit next to the kettle with the lids on waiting to be used but i feel better if ive done it lol...
routine lol Asha has a bit of a feeding routine but apart from that lol nothing she certainly dosn't have a bath every day only had two since shes been home one in the small bath and one in the big bath with daddy which she enjoyed much more... she has quite dry skin though from being over cooked lol so maybe when that gets better lol... sometimes we go for a walk sometimes we don't sometimes we go out sometimes we dnt visitors atleast every second day lol shes pretty relaxed so we just go with the flow here lol...
renee - i finally got around to looking at your site rory is such a little man lol soooo cute and that pic of avaleigh and him lol they have matching dummies!!!!! sooo cute what size clothes is he in?? 000???
:happybirthday: leanne

We don't really have a nighttime routine here. Bath every second night, sometimes feed immediately after, sometimes cuddles, all depends on when we get around to it.
Woke up this morning with a lump under my armpit. Not sure if it is a blocked duct or a lymph node. Am treating it like a blocked duct at the moment, heat on before a feed, starting on that side and massaging towards the nipple as she feeds. It's a bit tricky to get her chin in that direction to feed though. Fingers crossed it doesn't develop into mastitis if it is a block.
MIL wants to come around tomorrow with visitors (old next door neighbours from 27 years ago!) DH is very tempted to say no, so we'll see how we feel in the morning. I still haven't left the house properly (eg a car trip) since coming home from hospy, so I would rather go for a trip into town for a milkshake!
MD - the nurse gave me a sheet last week that says up to 6 weeks, they only need one hour awake during the day (excluding feed times). DD has more than that, but about an hour of nice awake time, the rest is screaming time as she tends to get quite windy and upset in the evenings.
Renee - hope Rory doesn't get sick, can't believe your friend left you with a sick baby when Rory is still so little.
-
finally got around to posting my birth story bit of a warning though its super long

Big Big Belated HAPPY BIRTHDAY for Leanne for yesterday! Hope you had a lovely day and enjoyed your pedicure - I bet your feet are soft and gorgeous!
Nope, no bedtime routine here either. E has a bath usually every second day or daily if we feel like it, either morning or evening depending on what else is happening. Later on there will be a bath - story - feed routine but it's early days for that yet.
Cally bless your nurse's cotton socks - about an hour of nice awake time (usually two half hours at our house). Sorry to hear Katie is so unsettled in the evenings. I had a huge lump in one of my breasts that hadn't cleared for about a week (eek!) until a midwife gave me one of her trade secrets - get your DH to hold one side of your breast and then massage the other side (stroke towards the nipple) while DD is feeding - trust me this clears it really quickly - it has to do with the counter pressure on the other side of the breast. Hot compresses (warm facewasher) before the feed will help as well.
Sherie - I had thought a similar thing re being born early contributing to the sleepiness - just such a huge contrast with DD1.
I can't remember who asked about using a dummy, we are (since 2 weeks old) and I think the important thing is you don't use the dummy to avoid a feed - if you've fed and baby is otherwise happy but needs to suck in order to settle, then dummy away!

Good Afternoon ladies
How was everyones weekend?
I have added some pics to the gallery. We have had a lovely weekend. Did a bit of shopping yesterday and spent today at home watching the motor racing. Logan has been sleeping most of the day.
Cally how is the lump going? Is the massage and feeding working? I had mastitis not long ago, its horrible. If the lump is still there I found sleeping on a well wrapped hot water bottle helped clear it up.
-
Lump is still there, but not nearly as sore today. Will try your trick for the next feed MD. Have been putting a warm rice pack on it before each feed.
Well we finally had our first outing today! Went for a drive and bought a milkshake and sat in a park overlooking a little bay I hadb't been to before. Very nice to get out of the house!
Hope everyone has had a nice day! Katie well done on the shopping - who knows when I will be up for that!!
-
Hi Lovley Ladies,
Thank you all for your wonderful Birthday Wishes, I had a wonderful day yesterday went for a pedi in the morning then did some shopping by myself which was wonderful as I have not been out by myself for about 5 weeks now. BBQ was great and received some wonderful pressies as well.
I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Will catch up tomorrow. Sorry.

**By the way - everyone check out the Sept Belly Buddies thread as Fianne's DH Pete has posted....!!!!!**
Cally, also meant to say if you get even the slightest hint of a fever coming on go straight to drs for ABs and do not delay as it comes on really quickly (we're talking hours) - but hopefully the duct will clear and it won't be a problem :crossfingers:. Yay for getting out of the house on a "real" outing.
Lovely photos Katie, I especially like "Logan3" - such a gorgeous little boy you've got there!!
Leanne - glad you enjoyed your birthday - what was your favorite prezzie?
Well I had a friend pop around yesterday afternoon (with a trashy mag and a packet of yummy bickkies - what a thoughtful girl) and announced her happy news that she's pregnant with her second - I'm soooo delighted for her as number 1 was a fluke (she was told she would never have kids) so number 2 will be a double bonus!! :D Also means I'll have another friend overlapping with me on maternity leave :D Life is such a precious gift!
DH was changing Elisabeth's nappy the other side and suddenly he piped up "She looks just like a panda bear" - she always has her little donkey legs up and because she's so chobbly, she DOES look like a panda bear (same shape) esp in a bond's wondersuit....hehehe!
A question:
**Has anyone signed up for a new mother's group and if so how old will your bub be when you start? I've signed up for one that starts on Monday but I think that might be a bit ambitious - there's another one that starts a month later in the next suburb around the hill - bit further away but still local-ish...hmmmm...what to do...?
-
Hi all, seeing as Fianne's popped now I thought I'd wander over here to where the action is!
happy birthday for the other day Leemar! xx
Found out at today's ob appt that the baby is 4/5 engaged (head down)... guess this explains the fanny bone and lower back pain, yeah?? So should we be expecting an early arrival???? at least my ob thinks I prob won't still be pregnant at 41 weeks. I am just hoping I a) get my tax done b) get through my baby shower next weekend c) get some more painting done and d) get some darn decent sleep for once first!
sorry about the selfish blah - I think the baby bubble has well and truly descended over my head as I am very insular and have the memory of a goldfish LOL.
-
Queenie - you're allowed to be Blah hun, that's what those last weeks are all about...and why should you need to remember anything - except where you put the list? LOL Engagement definitely explains the fannybone pain - get off your feet when you can...that will help. Anyway not long to go now, tho I agree doing the tax first would be a good idea! :)
-
The main problem with doing the tax is of course I can't remember where I put all the receipts etc!!! :cryinglaugh: oh dear...
