Hi all, I have a quick question to ask. William wants to sit by himself and he cries if I put him in other positions. He sits by leaning forward on both arms iykwim, so I am not supporting him at all. Just wondering is it okay to let them to sit by themselves at this age? I am afraid if his spine is not ready yet ...
Arte, I must have missed reading the part on your labour. OMG on the not breathing part, that must be quite a scary experience. LOL at the yuck face, I kinda smile when trying to picture it. GL with the house settlement.
Katie, W hasnt tried anything except for breastmilk and some medication like panadol bonjella etc LOL. I hear you, I cried everytime I said good bye to my mum at the airport.
ETA Hi Leanne, posting at the same time
-
Agnes just make sure he has a ring of pillows around him cos they can flop back suddenly and bump their heads until they really get the hang of sitting.
bbl i hope for personals. First day of study for me today, haha we'll see if i actually get anything done!!
-
good morning all
katie- yes i love going out for breakfast, it's my favourite. we try to do it every sunday- little bit of family time iykwim? then i always buy a bunch of fresh lillies for $5 from the grower on the way home and put them in the kitchen. it makes the house smell beautiful all week. sorry, i must have missed- where does your mum live? did she come to visit for the weekend?
aglinra- yes it is super hot atm isn't it? i've got the air con on again today. shouldn't whinge i guess, it gets so cold up here in winter, soon i'll be sending dp out to chop wood for me every morning! i sort of love winter though, settling in, snuggling up. i wonder if lewis will love it? lewis has not tried solids at all. a lot of my friends have but i'm not in any rush. i want to wait until he's at least 5.5 months.
hayley- hope you're going ok being away from maddie! she'll be fine, it's you i'm worried about! are you enjoying being at work? what do you do for work again? i'm sure you've told us, but i've forgotten, sorry!
sherie- last night was a lot better, thanks for checking! i think i'm getting a bit paranoid about sleep as well as the mchn told me he should be awake for 1 hour and then asleep for 2 hours all day and this never happens. he has a fw 40 min catnaps here and there but no real big sleep in the day. i'm doing my head in over sleep! i told dp that A was crawling so that he would get a wriggle on with finishing our deck. it still is half built and has no railing. he's decided we're not going away at easter now and he's going to dedicate the time to finishing the deck so that's good.
noni- glad everything has been sorted out with your dp. i had a look at your photos on fb and asha looks so much like him! it's very cute.
cally- i suppose 10 cans of coke would make you feel better than ten cans of bourban and coke!! lol
md- good luck with studying! i'm supposed to be share trading atm but i keep coming back on bb, so much more fun! hope you can avoid it so you can get lots done. are you studying librarian?
big call out to lp---where are you????
reminds me, has anyone heard from ella lately? i wonder how she and abigail ended up going with bfing?
-
LOL Marydean, do you have your study tools i.e huge block of choccie and a nice cuppa?
Agnes, if he likes to sit like that, try popping him in a clothes basket with some pillows behind him - I always did that with mine when they were just learning to sit on their own. I would also put some toys in with them. And I'm only prepared for solids because I'm a wee bit frugal and brought it all on special LOL (my scottish ancestory coming out)
Hi Leanne, you're working today?
Katie, hugs for you. I'm so lucky my Mum isn't that far away and the IL's are only a few k's up the road from us. When will you see her again next do you think?
Arte, I only ever used cooled boiled water in their food. It wasn't until they were a fair bit older I started using milk. I never used formula as it made it too thick.
Ah Noni, that explains a lot then. You poor thing, its hard to take everyone elses feelings into consideration at the cost of your own. Hope it all works out in the end.
Hayley, I hope these next three days pass quickly for you. At least she is with your Mum on Wednesday. I bet she will be spoilt rotten.
Arte, don't even think about mentioning the "W" word ;) - walking is the final frontier LOL and I would be very happy if he waited until 12mths before he started. Its not easy to watch him move about at all, its even painfull because you just wish he'd hurry up as he is painstakingly slow and awkward. Its so much easier to leave him in the room and then come back to find him moved.
What's the weather been like for everyone else lately? Here is typical autumn weather really - cool mornings and warm afternoons. It makes it very hard to know what to dress Alister in so I've just been putting on a short jumpsuit and then trackies over them so I can take them off when it warms up.
-
Noni - I am planning on cooking most of K's food myself, but I want to make sure she has some of the commercial ones for a change and if there is a situation where I can't make anything. She won't take a bottle of EBM because we didn't offer it to her enough and my mum keeps telling me about the time they went away and couldn't get the yogurt I liked and was grumpy the whole trip!
Katie - I only bought the solids stuff because it was on special!
Sherie - cooled boiled water sounds a lot easier to add to their food.
Gracie - K is awake for about 2 hours at a time at the moment. She tends to have a long sleep in the mornings (eg 1.5-2 hours) then the rest of the day it is 30mins - 1 hour. Sometimes she does an extra long sleep (like yesterday, didn't wake up from afternoon nap until 6:15!!)
I was wondering about Ella too.
Last night she had her last feed at 8:30, fell asleep on the boobies and didn't wake on transfer (yay!), didn't wake after the first sleep cycle (yay!) and stirred after 4 hours. I resettled her (took 50 mins) then she slept for another 3 hours! So good!! A friend went to sleep school for lots of night wakings (like K) and was told to resettle if they stir before 5 hours. I just felt like I needed to do something because her sleeping patterns are driving me crazy.
Well better go get ready, we're going to have lunch with MIL and then she's going to babysit while I go to the chiropractor.
-
Sherie- No work today although I am suppose to be cleaning again today.
Memo to all. One of my boys put some biro drawings on my nice clean walls which I discovered on sat morning. Boy was I mad and could not get it off for the life of me. I rang my cousin and she suggested Chux Magic Eraser... Well it works wonders and it got it all off. So I am going back to buy some more just incase they try it again. ( I bought it from woolies in the cleaning isle).
Oh better go time for another load in the washing machine.
Weather- light rain today
-
No individual replys but just a few notes on things I've read!!
Mackenzie is not rolling - in fact she did it a few times start of JAn and has stopped!! How frustrating!! Not worried though - I know they develop at own pace.
I go to Gymbaroo and we were told there NEVE to sit our babies because it's bad for the backs and prevents crawling. I think that may be a little dramatic but who knows!! don't deliberately sit Mackenzie now!
Sleeping patterns - completely out the window!! Any hint fo a routine has gone. Actually rang health nurse for extra appointment to discuss and have also rang sleep school to have phone consultation just in case it gets worse. I'm glad I did because I have to wait til 4th march for it!!
-
LOL Leanne, that's what I should be doing too. I love the chux magic erasers too - there aint much they don't get off. You can buy big ones too for the big 'artworks' ;)
Cally, that's a great nights effort.
Gracie, don't worry about the sleep too much - babies are never textbook when it comes to sleep or feeding, so I don't even know why they have these 'suggestions' on how much they should have.
Ella has been on about a mth ago, but not posting and LP still hasn't logged in since jan 22. I am really just hoping that with all the dodgy weather up her way she's just lost her connection.
-
thanks sherie :) you always make me feel better
-
little bit of news here!! at mothers group this morning Asha rolled from her tummy to her back!!! she wont do it the other way though lol and she did it twice to get out of being on her tummy!! as if tummy time wasnt hard enough lol oh well i am still excited shes rolling!!
-
Thanks Gracie :)
Noni, YAY for Asha rolling, what a little minx she is doing it to avoid tummy time ;)
-
Aglinra, I always let W sit on the middle of a double bed, then it didn't matter if he fell.
JordieC, I really hope that sitting isn't bad for their backs. W has been sitting by himself for the last month. I have been told that it is bad to let them stand weight -bearing as well, but my personal opinion is that if they have the strength/ablility to do it then it is o.k.
Noni, yay for rolling. W goes from back to front but only rarely goes the other way so luckily he is always where I leave him lol
Cally, glad you got a good sleep.
Sherie, glad we got a mod in our buddy group. Will have to time my #2 to coincide with another mod baby lol
We don't have any particular sleep pattern, he has 2-3 naps during the day which can be anywhere from 40 minutes to 3 hours, then he goes to bed around 9pm. I put him to bed if he is grizzley, otherwise if he is happy he just stays up to play. I still feed to sleep every time but we figure it is only a problem if we consider it to be one. I got a walker off my cousin so he will have a go in that when he wakes up. Last time he tried one he could only make it go backwards.
I just went to visit my great grandmother. She offered to hold W while I went to get something from the car. I ran because I was rather nervous about leaving a fraile 95 year old holding him lol.
I forgot how intense the sun is over here! I think W got a bit sunburnt yesterday. I have bought him a hat and will have to start using sunscreen. Brisbane was hot but the sun here bears down on you like under a magnifying glass (courtesy of the ozone hole) and you burn much much faster.
-
Artichem - Thanx for replying to my post! It made me feel so much better to know I wasnt the only one who didnt have that 'moment'. I was starting to think there was something wrong with me. It means alot :) Like you said it just took me a while to come around and I guess realise that he was mine...
-
Sherie, LOL @ 'study tools' - unfortunately that's what I relied on to get my project finished and now I have to look the dietician in the eye! Wow about Rafferty's, I've never heard of it, I come from back in the dark old ages when Heinz and Farex were the only products on the shelf LOL! Not that I used them, with the allergy diet and all...Better start paying attention when I go to the shops.
Noni - yay for Ash! You will have to keep an eye on her, saving up all her tricks for when she has an audience LOL playing to the crowds. Farout about your situation with your friend and DP, I can imagine that will always be a sore point.
Arte - I think that ozone hole is over the southern bit of Oz as well, I know that burning feeling very well. Like Sherie I only ever used boiled water in their food, and after we saw the dietician rice milk in small quantities (it's sweet like EBM but nothing harmful in it) but not as a major food source, just as a cooking aid (ie to make little custards, etc) since we didn't do dairy until after 12 months.
Jordie, try not to worry too much about routine/not routine, the important thing is to find a pattern that works for you. It may or may not be flexible around times. Far out at the sleep clinic waiting times, nothing like making a desperate bunch of mothers wait!
Gracie, yep I'm studying librarian. Fully tax deductable LOL! Didn't actually open my books yet, found too many jobs to be done while I was tidying my desk. DH will be home tonight so that'll free up some time in the evenings.
Cally, was the excess coke drinking a reaction to being back at school...or did he have something else in the cans as well LOL not sure what's worse.
Agnes, might be worth reading up about diet and allergy prevention, the only way you will know for sure is if you go on an elimination diet yourself. Best done under the supervision of an allergy specialist or dietician, though. Good idea to see the dr again, ask for a referral if s/he doesn't seem to know what they are talking about.
No chance of going with DH if he goes o/s (I would sooo love to travel the world funded by my DH's employer) but it's not that sort of trip and it's to a really unstable area. We're in the middle of a big dilemma as they have offered him a move back home (!!!) in July and half of me really wants to pack up and go and the other half of me feels its better to wait until the end of the year (complete the year at school, etc). Also we're better off financially here than we would be back home but it's another half of a year with DH largely absent.
Well I hit the jackpot at the Library on Saturday, picked up The Science of Parenting and 100 ways to calm the crying & Sleeping like a baby (pinky Mackay) at the same time! Also got this Vegemite Little Aussie Reader scrapbook, with rhymes and book suggestions and places where you can scrapbook in pictures, etc of your bub enjoying the library or reading together etc. Look out for it everyone, it was Freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
I think Betty's getting toothies too - she's developed a bottom lip rash and pink cheeks and was quite unsettled last night (got up to partay three times)!
-
hello everyone :D
i'm sorry i have written extensively for ages. i haven't stopped loving you all.
boy life is busy. i'm back at tafe and working one day a week and pulling my 8.2kg bundle around behind me lol.
she is LOADS of fun. we play games where she squeals and then i do, she laughs and then i do and then repeat over and over. heehee. she is actually starting to get really clingy.
-
hmmm have got netball grading at 8pm tonight, very nervous i wont be able to keep up, i mean i only wanna be put in a very low grade team!!! just wanna be there to have fun but have visions of me not being able to catch the ball or falling over or something lol..
hello supab great to see you on :) good to hear alls going well to
md - yes i suspect it will always be a sore point and it annoys me because its not like it ment anything iykwim it was all just both of us caught in a moment and now its very difficult to even talk this guy who was/is one of my best friends because of how dp feels... and yes very sneaky of Ash, dp was just saying the other night you know i think she could roll over if she wanted to coz she kinda goes on her side, we just havnt given her a reason yet lol looks like he was right..
leanne - re magic erasers, we actually used them at work in the childcare centre when there were artworks we couldnt get off the wall if they fail get out the gumption that seems to get anything off!!!
-
SupaB - I was only just thinking of you today, wondering if you were back at TAFE yet...how are you finding the balance of working/studying/mummying? What sort of a care arrangement did you get for T?
Noni - GL with the tryouts tonight, and remember to have FUN! :)
-
MD - Go Home! It is sooo good to be back, I have never felt so sure I'd made the right decision as I do now. In the end it wasn't even sad to leave Australia as I was so looking forward to being home.
Renee, glad my little reply helped. I think there is a lot of pressure on new mums to instantly love their babies but for me I needed time to get to know him.
SupaB, nice to 'see' you. No one ever told me how much fun motherhood would be, I am loving it too.
Noni, good luck for the netball team.
DH had his first day at his new job today. He is staying up there this week while I am at mums waiting for all our stuff to arrive. In a burst of luck he works with a guy whos wife runs the local toy library and organises playgroups etc. The next town over is NZ's main military camp so I am guessing there are a heap of military wives that are SAHM's.
-
Hi Ladies
We havent started solids yet either, but I am starting to get myself organised.
Gracie - Aw thanks, yes I guess I am kinda enjoying being at work. Actually to be honest i'm not too sure how I feel about work anymore, I'm just hanging in there at the moment still deciding whether to chuck it in or hang onto it. I work in property settlements. With the sleeping, Maddie doesnt have much of a day time routine for sleeping. She definately doesnt do what the chn told you either.
Leanne - Will have to remember that chux eraser thingo!!
Jordie - Hope you can get the sleeping back on track.
Noni - How is mothers group going? Good luck with netball, I so know what you mean. It gets turned into a real competition doesnt it, when some of us are just there for a bit of fun!
Arte - Thats great that you are not doubting your move back home! Our's isnt settling till later this month.
Marydean - How are E's teeth going? Is she still rashy and unhappy? Oooh study, I am going to my uni orientation tomorrow. Scary!!
Cally - Sounds like she is getting better with her sleeping. :)
Anyway have to keep it short, I am so tired, and I've still got to dreamfeed Madeline.
-
Morning lovely ladies,
Arte sounds like you might make a bunch of new friends......thats fantatsic.
Noni how did you go at netball? Woo hoo on Asha roling thats great news.
Supa how are you going juggling everything?
MD well done on your haul at the library, I borrowed the science of parenting and thought it was great, well what I read as I didnt get to finish it.
Leanne I had to have a giggle at teh boys decorating your walls, at least you found something to get it off.
Cally I am planning on cooking all of Logans foods too. I bought a few tins of stuff to try so I can get a feel for what he likes and doesnt like before I spend all my money on fruit and veg and spend hours preparing food to freeze.
Sherie the weather has been a bit all over the place here too so I do the same as you and put trackies over L's suits. It was so cold here last night. I have no idea when I will see mum again, I am hoping to get soem cheap flights down soon.
Gracie $5 for Lillies? Thats a bargin. My whole family (and DH's) are in Sydney so I don't get to see them as much as I would like.
Argh better go Mr Magoo does not want to go to sleep this morning.
-
hello everyone :)
mothers group was good , one of the ladies showed us traditional indian baby massage which has been passed down in her family and we talked alot about settling.. theres talk of going to a mums and bubs movie this week too so we will see when it comes round to it..

katie - goodluck with the solids :)
haley - have a good time at orientation wow so many of you are studying
-
Hi Girls,
Noni- Congrats on the netball and I am so glad you are enjoying mothers group.
Well we had to go back to Dr Hodge yesterday for Xavier's post op check up and Jordy got his ears checked too. Jordy is great but X has a infection in his right ear. So more ear drops for him. Oh well I better go.
Hello to everyone and have a great day
-
hi everyone!
have been a little MIA lately - both Noah and I have had a cold. his was worse than mine poor bubba. i think he is getting a bit better today though so we have just been out on our long walk and he is in his swing (pls sleep!!). we were up every half hour on sat night - not nice at all! i have a vaporiser in his room now and that seems to help a lot at night so there is a tip for you all when babies get a cold (though it is prob best here in canberra w the dry air).
Noni - it sounds like things are better for you this week and you are out and about more - great news. how are things w dp now? what amessy situation!
MD - nice library haul! i need to get to the library sometime. do you know if they have baby reading sessions at the libraries here? that would be a nice thing to do with Noah. btw how did your mothers group go?
Supa - good to hear from you sounds like things are great with you and T.
Hayley - what a busy week you have!!!! Amazing how you juggle it all. I am sure M will be fine - it is you we need to worry about LOL!
Arte - sounds like you are loving being home - so GREAT!
Renee - good to see you!!!
Sherie - how is DH?
Hi to everyone else - sorry if i have missed anything important.
I forget who was talking about the nurse and sleep - Noah does nothing like that at all, he is a bad sleeper in the day and i have just accpeted it! every baby is diff. i must say i am begnning to slow down on the nurse visits, they mean well but their advice is all based on averages and i find that i end up more worried after going than if i didnt go. Noah is doing so well (all our babies are) so i think i am going to stop worrying about each tick in the box from them - he will do things at his own pace some slower and some faster than 'average'. the last thing i need is more stress and worrying about it. if i have an issue i am concerned about i think i will ask my gp. and i will just go to the nurse for a weigh in now and then and the mandatory checking. geez that turned to a ramble!! LOL!
solids are going well here - i think it took a few days for him to adjust but now he loves it!! we have 2 small small meals a day (coiple of spoons) - rice cereal and apple and cinnamon in the late morning and a vege mix of some sort in the late afternoon. Today i skipped the cereal as he had a few spoons of avocado off my tpast - he LOVED it! i hope it wasnt too rich for him but it is good if it goes down well as avocado is so easy and transportable for me to give him! we are off to melbourne this weekend so it could come in v handy! i had a pureeing fremzy yesterday - made pumpkin, carrot, apple and cin, parsnip, brocolli and sweet pot - froze them in ice cubes so each day i make him a little combo for 'dinner' - it is fun! he likes each of those flavours so it works well - i just take 3 cubes out and combine them! i am also cooking all his food - it is cheaper and i like doing it. It doesnt take me v long anyway, i have a steamer and i jus throw all the veges in for about 12 mins and then puree away. i'd say 45 mins max work and i have enough food for a few weeks.
i have been ona bit of a diet the last 6 weeks to date i have lost about 2 kg, not that much but i am ok to lose it slowly... i am feeling a lot healthier though. i think i was in the habit of big portions.. not good! my fave treat the the moment is a date scone from baker delight - delicious!
-
Wow Pregpan it sounds like you are the mistress of efficiency when it comes to getting all those solids prepared! Do you use covered icecube trays and if so where did you buy them? Yep they have storytime in pretty much all the ACT libraries, see the info page here. We'll start going around the one year old mark...she gets plenty of 'storytime' at home (complete with songs and dancing) courtesy of her sister LOL!
I definitely know what you mean about deciding to see the MACH nurses only for the scheduled checks - I decided around the same age with H to do the same. Same reason, confidence being undermined when clearly H was growing fast and thriving.
Arte, thanks for your 'go home' advice :) Sounds like we'll be going whether it's earlier or later in the year...just got to navigate whatever lies in between now and then. Still don't know, DH's employers are like a black hole when it comes to essential info that you need in order to plan your life!!! BTW, you'll probably find a few expat aussies in amongst the military wives - they can do exchange postings over there.
Oh dear, have completely forgotten everything else i was going to say now...gotta go provide a stimulating and nurturing environment for my baby LOL bye.
-
MD - I just use large normal ice cube trays - and i cover them with foil or cling film. then as soon as they are frozen (couple of hours) i pop them out and store them in zip lock bags in the freezer. I find this works well, was looking for some ice trays w lids but could not find so this works for now. if you find some in canberra let me know! thanks for the library link i will check it out. i read Noah a story or 2 each day but I am sure the library sessions would be more entertaining for him LOL!
-
Tupperwear have ice cube trays with lids, they also have a little silicon button on the bottom to make popping out the food or ice easier. There is a few on ebay. Also Big W had some little containers made for freezing baby food.Just thought I would let you know.
-
I've got the ice cube trays from Tupperware, they're great with the lids.
Had 2 leaking poo nappies today, not impressed. And they were both disposables, we have less leaks in our cloth ones!
She's having a mega sleep at the moment which is good, making up for me waking her up this morning to take her to the doctors. Her nappy rash is looking a lot better, but the doctor recommended some other creams to put on it. She also took a swab to see if it was fungal.
Pregpan - we're really only doing the minimum visits to the CHN. Ours seems a bit dismissive of any concerns. There was a lovely one we went to once, but she was only temping. My mum was told not to expect much from me because I failed my 3 year old check up and I think I've turned out pretty good!! Just didn't feel like stacking blocks that day. Glad you're feeling better, touch wood K hasn't been sick yet.
Noni - K didn't want to do tummy time yesterday, she rolled back onto her back 5 times before I gave up!
Leanne - hope X's ear infection clears up soon.
MD - hope the teeth pop through quickly.
We got some more books for K at the library today. Can't wait to sit down and go through them.
Arte - we were told if she wants to stand let her, it won't do any harm. We couldn't stop K from standing, she just refuses to bend at the hips a lot of the time, makes it very difficult getting in and out of the pram!
Hope everyone else is good.
-
Cally OMG how can a 3 yo "fail" their check up? Well, you sure did show 'em, didn't you?
After my MACH comments earlier this morning I was pleasantly surprised by the nurse we saw this afternoon, she was very encouraging. E's weight has bottomed out, which apparently is common as this age as they become more active. She has however put on 250g over the last 10 days (no wonder I'm feeling exhausted and HUNGRY all the time LOL). I'm happy to report that we had just as bad a night last night (with DH home) as I did the night before (when he was away). LOL don't want him thinking it's easy peasy when he's away or the guilty chocolate presents might dry up.
Thanks all for the tupperware tip, guess I'll be ebaying soon. Pregpan I'd love a freezer full of little ziplocked cubes of puree!
Went back to Big W this afternoon, they still had sale stock (!) and while I was there I managed to buy this FP chime piano thingy, it has these dials that the baby can spin and the striker hits the chime plates. Mostly picked it because it's another tummy play option (getting sick of seeing Betty face-plant into her other toys LOL).
Totally brain dead I'm just raving now. Better go before I bore you all senseless.
-
LOL Cally, I can't believe your mum was told not to expect much of you! If only that MCHN could see you now.
I was going to suggest the tupperware ones too, but they always go for more than they are worth on ebay unless you can get some buy it now.
Pregpan, its so hard on them when they have a cold because they still only breathe from their noses most of the time and when it's blocked it makes it very hard on them. How was he sleep wise? glad you're both over the worst of it now. And DH is fine, but still a little sore still. He had his stitches out today and our GP told him to expect soreness for a few weeks yet. But its not bad soreness, just the soreness you would have recovering from any operation.
I used to cook everything for Lindsay and hardly used brought stuff, but I admit I became a bit of a heinz mum with the girls as their taste in food was completely different to Lindsay and they preferred their food quite bland. They are all fantastic eaters now though and there's not much they don't eat so I guess it didn't do any lasting harm. I can't get over the differences in the food now either. Today I was at woolies while DH was at the Drs and heinz have organic food out to compete with Rafferty's and Bellamys I suppose but it is twice the price of the raffertys and TBH I wouldn't trust heinz as far as I could kick them LOL. Plus Raffertys was on special again today so I brought some more cereals.
Noni, how did the grading at netball go?
Leanne, I hope J's ear clears up soon. Glad X is doing so well.
Hayley, do you think you'll find something different to do or give it away altogether?
MD, did you get much work done in the finish?
Hi SupaB! this age is great as their little personalities really start to shine through.
Yoo-hoooo, where are you Gracie? How is Lewis settling for you?
Well my big boy is turning 7 tomorrow. This time 7yrs ago I was sitting in hospital, having had my show and starting to dilate - I wasn't having contractions though and could have been at home (DH was) but I was glad for the time in hospital by myself so I could mentally prepare myself for what was to come. Its amazing that all this time can pass and I can still remember everything about his birth like it was only yesterday. I can even smell the soap I used while in hospital as I'm sitting here. His was a great first birth I thought - contractions started at 3am at 20mins apart and gradually got closer together and then I had my waters broken at 8am and then they just kept getting closer and closer together until it was time for me to start pushing him out (Oh, DH got there at 5am incase you were thinking I was by myself LOL). Even though I had a long 2nd stage (pushed for 1.5hrs) there was this sense of calm about it all until his head was on view and then it was action stations until he was finally born at 1.20pm. Gosh I'm a sentimental old bugger LOL.
-
i'm here sherie:hello:
just being lazy and not posting ;)
lewis is much much better, thanks for checking. i went to a lullaby session at the movies today with some other mums and bubs and lewis was awesome. slept through the whole movie while other babies were screaming and i actually got to watch and enjoy the movie! nice.
thanks for sharing about your first ds's birth. i can't believe it was seven years ago! you're such a great mum sherie
-
That's fantastic about watching the movie in peace, Gracie - we're going to try a mumsnbubs movie either tmrw or on Thurs - wish me luck!
Sherie - that's gorgeous that you can remember all the details like that...have you written it down for posterity, you nostalgic old fool?
No didn't get much work done at all, found some other (urgent) jobs while I was tidying my desk. Another day...DH is home now so it's a bit easier.

best of luck at the movies md- you'll love it! i really wanted to see juno but it wasn't on so i watched some romantic comedy thing. it was ok.. how's your studying coming along??? procrastination and i are old friends, i love it.;)
-
Well Gracie I can happily say that procrastination and Overeating (!) and I are all longtime buddies, so glad I'm only hanging out with procrastination right now LOL! Was the romantic comedy, Definitely, Maybe? That's one that I might see...or Dan in Real Life which Margaret and David gave the thumbs up to.
-
i love overeating as well!!! he's especially friendly on special occasions, and goes well with alcohol!
yes i think the movie was called definitely maybe, it wasn't too bad for a rom com. had some quite funny 90s references (it's main story is set in the 90s) and some funny stuff about Bill Clinton. parts of it were quite clever. i haven't heard of the other one but if margaret gave it thumbs up then i'd say it's a go-er!

hi everyone! so many posts that i won't even attempt to catch up since my last post. will only do personals for what i still remember.
arte, glad to hear you're settling in.
going on solids, am not even thinking about it but am taking notes of what you guys are doing. am not going there until after our u.s. trip. don't have spoons, ice trays or tupperware for it yet.
do all states have the "time to eat" sessions at the community health centre? i'm booked to go to that on monday and it's an hour and a half with chn (i assume) telling us about giving bubs solids. am really quite impressed with the public system.
dp came home reeking of alcohol on friday (from rugby game) and max was the most unsettled. i think his "scent" must've been bothering her.
i think that she might have a tooth coming out. bottom centre. there's a definite white bit there. fingers crossed it won't be too hard on her. (or me).
noni, hope your netball went ok.
movies, was hoping to go this week but dp needs the car so am immobile....again.
pregpan, glad to hear you're better.
sherie, thanks for sharing your ds' birth story. interesting how you can "re-live" the moment. hope that i'm able to remember max's birth as clearly.
renee, don't think i ever replied to your question on birth. i think that i was too tired and a bit out of it from the epidural that there really wasn't a "moment" for me either. in fact, i think i might've been faking my excitement at her birth because it thought it was expected of me. think dp was more excited than i was. but, i can guarantee you now that the love i have for max is unequaled.
hayley, how did uni orientation go?
ok....eyes are drooping...until the next time i'm able to sit for a longer period.
good night! :bedtime:
-
morning all - hope you are all having a good day!
Fianne - I havent heard of those sessions here, though I am sure it will be useful. you will have to let us know what they say.
Sherie - wow what memories! must feel bizarre that it has been 7 yrs. I get freaked out that N is 5 months and feel he is growing up too fast LOL!
not much news here - N and I are feeling a lot better tho the cold is hanging around. last night i was feeding N (end of bedtime routine) and he was so not interested (arching back etc - this NEVER happens) - he looked v tired so i decided to rock him to sleep thinking he would wake up in 45 mins or so demanding a feed... he went to sleep and didnt wake til 5am!!!! so bizarre! i then gave him a big feed and he slept again til 8. he nust have needed the sleep for his cold i guess? I have decided to wind the solids backa little to make sure he still drinks a lot of milk - i havent noticed a big decrease o anything but i dont want to land myself in that situation!
-
LOL Gracie & MD, Procrastination is SUCH a tart - he's been cheating on me, I see! PMSL!
Renee in regard o you "special moment" question - I don't know that I actually had an "oh my god" moment either. The whole thing was pretty confronting - wonderful, but so darn quick it didn't really sink in! I think I spent the morning after the waters broke and the drive into hospital trying to distract myself so I wouldn't freak out or get overexcited as I half expected to be sent home; I assumed we'd get time to gradually come to terms with the impending inevitable in the coming hours. HA!!! Things happened so darn fast, and I was too busy coping with the contractions to really think about it! I do remember looking at the time and thinking "she's almost here" before the last push, and how beautiful she was when she came out, but I was in awe - kinda spaced out, I suppose! It didn't sink in that she was ours (that was so mind-blowing a concept I don't think I could process it), just that she was beautiful and felt lovely. Then she was taken to the resusc table for some oxygen. Dh commented after than as soon as she was born he felt so responsible. I just felt relief, shock and awe! (And HUNGER!) It was only about 2 hrs after she was born that I realised I felt a sort of love/wonder, and to be honest it's only in the last month I've felt she's really mine, and I still find it hard to comprehend that she's "our" child. Before that I almost felt like I was handling a very precious visitor! So no, I don't remember a blinding moment as such, apart from looking up at the clock and fixing the time of her birth in my mind; it's been more of a gradual process. Think I was in shock for ages. And for many women I reckon that's probably completely normal. HTH!
hi everyone else!
s sends cuddles and gurgles. We've had a horrendous 2 days for screaming but hopefully the cool weather will help her today.
hope you're all well - sorry no time for more personals, need to prioritise a shower today as I got covered in vom twice yesterday. Peeeuuuwwww.

hello to anyone ive missed!!
-
:hello: Hi everyone!!!!! I've missed you all!!!
have been very busy lately, and haven't had any time to post. I have tried reading some posts, but please forgive me if i don't do any personals at the moment - i'll try to keep up from today though :)
My little Hannyhooha is on the move - she's been commando crawling for the past week and is getting so fast. I now have to check the floor and surrounding areas for anything dangerous. the girls have so many small toys around - so we're going to have to do a complete tidy up i think. We've started solids seriously this week - she's been having rice cereal for brekky and then carrots for lunch - going to move onto potato tomorrow. I bought some containers from Babies Galore - they're individual containers with a lid that sit on a tray - they can go in the microwave too.
she is still waking up through the night with wind pains. I'm thinking of taking her to a Chiropractor to see if there is anything he can do.
Zoe has been at Kindy now for a couple of weeks, and she cried this morning before we left home. It broke my heart. Managed to get her excited about going, but then when i had to leave her there i was so sad, just wanted to bring her home with me :( i know she's having a ball though, because her teacher just called me to let me know.
Anyway, off to have some sushi while Hannah is asleep.
talk to you all again soon

Tried to login to BB this afternoon, but couldnt even open the forum. Not sure whats wrong...
Thanks for all the sitting suggestion. MD now I make sure that he is surrounded with lots of pillows. Sherie, I tried putting him in his toy box (similar shape to laundry basket) today, he was a bit confused at first LOL. Thanks, Great thinking :) I like the idea that we can simply move the basket everywhere and put him there.
Jordie, I try not sitting him up on purpose but thats his preferred position now and he even does it by himself when he is in his rocker or swings  GL with the sleeping school and let us know how you go.
Hayley, forgot to say thanks on your reply on the childcare thing, you made me feel better. Its just so hard isnt it, no matter what we do mothers guilt seems to follow us. Yesterday we looked at three other centres. Hope your orientation went well.
Gracie, I read your thread on the meet up at dandenong. Oh, I wish I can go. I live in sth eastern area but I've made some arrangement for that day. Btw snuggling up in winter in front of the fireplace sounds wonderful :)
Leanne, I need to remember the magic eraser, we had lots of 'accidents' when we were kids. Hope X feels better
Noni, yay on Asha rolling. A weight loss is a weight loss, congrats
MD, thanks for the diet allergy info. I am actually making some changes atm, will keep you posted on how it goes.
What a tough decision for you guys. Hope you can choose the best win for everyone. When I was little, my family had to move to other town mid school year and all the kids ended up fine and made lots of friends along the way. I guess children are highly adaptable and I am sure H will be fine ifyou decide to go onthat path. Btw hope you can see some toothie smiles soon :)
Arte, dont mean to scare you but my MCHN told me that baby walker is not recommended anymore cause they are considered dangerous. They are also some article on the net about it. Hope you are enjoying your time there :) BTW sometimes i put him on the bed as well
Pregpan, wow you are so organised with the solids and everything. Glad you and Noah feel better
Sherie, happy birthday to Lindsay. What a wonderful story, you made me teary now .. Hope in years to come I can remember W birth to details just like you
Welcome back Jazmum and yay on the commando crawling. **Hugs**, hope you feel better with Zoe going to kindy. i think i'll cry when the time comes for us, i just realised now being a mum is so hard at times ..
Queenie, hope S is better today and enjoying the cooler weather
Fianne, we dont have that session either
Cally, does K like the books ?
On movies, we sort of movie junkies before we had W. Going to the movies at least twice a month. We look forward to see Indiana Jones IV this year, if only we can watch in the cinema with W ...
Anyone watch so you think you can dance? I kinda like that Anthony guy.
Too bad I only saw bits and pieces of the new series Cashmere Mafia, W cried while it was on.
Hi to everyone else
