hi noni - i just googled 'feeding babies blueberries' and it might be a good idea to hold off on giving asha blueberries. have a look at the first site that comes up
the one that came up said it was a myth that feeding them blueberries caused allergins??? now u have me confused!
sorry noni!!! if you scroll down a little, it just recommends starting between 6 and 9 months - it also gives you some tips on how to store and cook them.
So i'm not the only one having sleep problems? I had a feeling it might be an age thing!
jazmum - I love the idea of putting her in the bath and letting her have a good splash, I hope she likes it - Aurelia insists on sitting upright in the bath and whinges if you don't let her. But if she isn't being held maybe she'll enjoy it! Either way I'm going to give it a go.
noni, this is what we were told yesterday about starting and increasing solids/meals.
you can do it slow....1 meal/day for 1st week. 2 meals/day for 2nd week. 3 meals/day for 3rd week.
or fast....1 meal/day for M-W. 2 meals/day Th-Sa. 3 meals/day Su-Tu.
cally, we're going to the states for a family reunion. and while there, dp and i will walk down the flamingo chapel's aisle to say "i do"....dp in elvis outfit (he wants to)....and we decided to make it fun by making it a 70's themed one. not sure what i;m wearing yet. oh, guests have to come in 70's.
Hi everyone!
Just a quick one from me - too tired and crap feeling to post. Paige had a great time at the Wiggles and was suitably awestruck that they were there 'really and truly' and not on TV - she sang and danced and really enjoyed the whole show. Alister behaved - slept through the first half of it and then jigged around watching the rest of the show.
Fingers crossed I might get an early night tonight.......
sherie, guess wiggles concerts will be what i've got to look forward to eh? :) glad they had fun.
baby sleeping problem/s.......don't think i really got it or got over it. i think that she ought to be sleeping longer but since i don't know any better, it hasn't been a 'real' problem iykwim.
speaking of sleeping, have finally bitten the bullet and put her in bed awake and let her put herself to sleep. am keeping to a routine of bath, feed, burp, read, bed. even if she'd just fed before the bath we still give her the bottle after bath. and we've been aiming for bed by 8. started this last friday. had mentioned to mothers grp at lunch that day that we tried and picked her up after 15 mins crying/grizzling and the other mums were saying 15 mins is nothing. 30 mins at least. so, we did that friday night. she cried for maybe 45 mins and then went to sleep. sat night, she had a 5-second grizzle and slept. maybe 5 mins sunday and 10 mins last night. hope things stays this way.
Whoooohoooo I won a portrait package for Rory :) Sooo excited! I had forgot I entered until I got the letter this afternoon!
Good news, I took Rory to the MCHN and he is just a tad under the 'average' weight. Yipeee! She was very happy with his progress.
Lots of Yays - for Renee for winning and for Leanne for getting some sleep! And for Sherie for the "live Wiggles" concert! Gotta love 'em!
Fingers crossed it stays that way with the sleeping, Fianne.
Cally, big big *hugs* you must be really worn out. I've posted in your other thread but will probably confuse the readers cos I referred to stuff in this thread LOL. Oh dear, that's what happens when you're interrupted in btwn reading and replying.
Pregpan, goodluck with your FDC interview. I had a whole list of stuff printed off that I used to consider but i couldn't find it for you, sorry. I will say though that you will know within a very short time if it feels right or not. I've walked away after some very short 'interviews' thinking 'not likely'! But the carers we've had I've known straightaway that they were 'right'.
Sorry, that's the extent of my memory today, I've used it all up waiting for my excruciatingly slow computer to load webpages. Desperate to get my work done now, I've got a huge assignment due next week and haven't even started it yet! :( Tried putting E into the high chair so she could sit up at the desk next to me and play while I worked which lasted for all of 15 mins! *sigh* DH is away too so no relief there.
md, good luck in getting things sorted so you can get stuff/homework done. and yes, it's still working....took maybe 10 mins tonight.
Sounds like Max is getting into the routine fianne!
Cally - Maybe you could have a bath with her so she can kick in the water. I fill the bath right up and let him float on between my legs. He kicks in the water like a olympic swimmer haha. The resistance of the water really wears him out LOL!
Ive uploaded up recent pics of bugga lugs
Leemar - Glad to hear you finally got some sleep and that your eyes are on the mend.
Jazmum - I didnt end up getting a humidifier, she is pretty much over her cold now. I am going to keep my eye out for one, being in day care I'm sure during winter she will pick up a few more colds. Maddie loves kicking around in the bath too, water goes absolutely everywhere and I get soaked, but it is so much fun watching her kicking around and laughing. And it tires her out as well, perfect! I saw the solids article in practical parenting, love that mag.
Cally - Yeah the Ikea chairs are like $19.00, they arent much to look at, no colours etc, but I guess it will do the job? I have noticed at day care that they have a stack of them for the babies so if day care are using them, they cant be unsafe or anything I guess.
Fianne - LOVE your wedding idea, sounds like a heap of fun!!! Maddie has been starting to grizzle a bit when I put her to bed and she is the same with the grizzling one night for 15 mins and the next for 5. I just leave her be and she eventually falls asleep, its only if she works herself up that I go and shush her.
Sherie - Lol at Paige and the wiggles, how cute! Have you tried evening primrose oil on Alisters excema? Someone suggested it to me but I wasnt sure if it is safe for babies. I am taking Maddie to the GP on Friday, as it seems to be getting worse and I have noticed some mornings that she has been scratching it over night.
Renee - You lucky duck winning the portrait prize!! Professional photos are so expensive, I am planning on using the pixi photo vouchers that we got in the bounty bag to get a free pic every 6 months. Already done the first and going to collect it today. LOL I may sound like a real stinge, but apparently everyone does it!! My gosh are you dying in the heat this week, its horrible!!! Good news about Rory and his weight, doing well.
Marydean - I officially start uni tomorrow, I'm only doing one unit but I am so nervous about homework. I guess I will just do it at nights when Maddie is in bed, is that what you do too?
Far out I feel like I am constantly go go go...with work/daycare on Mon & Tues and organising everything else during the rest of the week. Not to mention starting uni on Thursdays now. AND looking after a bub! I'm wondering if its just that I have had so much to think about lately with the unit settling (we ran around like mad chooks on the weekend to fix items that the Buyers wanted fixing, only to call sett off on Tuesday because they werent happy with it) and trying to organise myself for uni and get Maddie into the creche. Does everyone else feel this way or have I taken on too much with work and uni??
OH for those of you using grobags, bloomandgrowdirect.com are having a 50% off sale on grobags. You can only buy 3 at a time, so I bought 3 under my name and 1 under my mums (hehe cheeky) for winter. The 3 I bought I got for $96 Aus dollars including postage!!!!!!!!!! Bargain.
Aw Renee, Rory is so precious! He is a very good little boy on his tummy!
hello all :)
seems like i am saying this more and more but dp and i had another pretty big fight yesterday... asha had a bad day all day crying and winging and i left the room for 5 minutes to recollect myself and dp couldnt settle her so instead of asking me to come back he says to her 'mummy dosnt care ur upset' oh boy did he cop it from me!! so i apparantly dont deserve 5 minutes to myself and am a bad mother am i? he was so sorry but u know what sorrys not really good enough if u ask me for unloading ur issues onto your 5mth old grrrrrrrr!!!
anyways lost .7 at ww this morning, not bad not great.. considering i didnt go to the gym last night because i wasnt leaving asha with dp for obvious reasons!!
jazmum - thanks might hold off on the blueberries for now just to be safe and keep going with cereal in the morning and maybe some veges in the avo or something..
fianne - thanks for that, think we will take the slow option since shes only 5mths, after a week i might try some veges in the avo :)
haley - does seem like alot but its different for everyone, personally for me thatd be too much but it comes down to how you cope and how it all makes you feel :) do you feel happy with things this way?
renee - cute pics!! ive never let asha be in the bath with lil bit of water like that does he like it?
md - goodluck with the assignment!
sherie - glad the wiggles was good
noni - you should let asha have a go in the bath - i bet she'll love it!!
well done at losing more weight. bummer that you and your dp are fighting.
seems to be becoming a common thing dp and i fighting.. poor thing had to make his own lunch this morning how will he survive lmao!!
i do take asha in the bath with me just not by herself yet might give it a go
Noni - Whooaaa Noni you are going so well with your weight loss. Sorry you and Dp are fighting. Dh and I have been fighting lots lately too. We had a huge blue last night, so dont worry, your not the only one.
Rory loves his bath time in the big bath now:) As soon as I take his clothes off he starts giggling and kicking. I need to get a non-slip mat because he wiggles his bum and slides from one end to the other. I think he was a dolphin in a past life.
Hi Girls,
Well things are getting better. Sleeping a bit more and the eyes are getting better. We have parent teacher meeting tonight at the boys daycare so I am pretty excited to go. I asked the boys this morning did they have anything to tell me before we went to speak to there teacher. Yeah like they knew what I was on about. I was laughing to myself. Olivia starts swimming next tuesday which will be DH birthday so he is coming home early to take her. The boys lessons are straight after hers which works out quite well.
Noni- Congrats on your weight loss. I have not been to ww for 3 wks now. Dont worry too much about the fighting with DP it happens to all of us.
Renee- Congrats on your win. love the pics.
Sherie- Glad you had fun at the wiggles. I want to take the boys this year.
Hello to everyone
Leanne - I want to take K to swimming next term but can't find anywhere close by. I know somewhere 40 minutes away.... ah the trouble with living in the country!
MD - How long is E staying up these days? We generally get about 2 - 2.5 hours out of her, if we are out she does last a lot longer, I suppose because there are more things to look at.
Noni - well done on the weight loss.
Hayley - that sounds like a bargain on the grobags, will have to have a look.
Pregpan - how did your FDC interview go?
Renee - that's great that Rory is almost average weight. K is spot on the 50% curve.
Jaz - that's a great idea about letting her kick in the bath. Will give that a shot tonight.
K has started being able to sit by herself for a while. On the weekend she kept falling over, but now she can do it for more than 5 minutes! And she's getting close to rolling....
Cally - Just after I posted I checked bloomandgrow and I think their sale is over.
:( I bought mine on Sunday and havent had the chance to get on since to let everyone know. Sorrry!!!!
Noni - Definately give Asha a go in the bath, they love it!! Its so cute. Well done on the weight loss, I am currently devouring a box of roses chocolates. Cant help myself! Would hate to weigh myself these days lol. All couples have their fights, its normal.
Leanne - Swimming lessons sound great fun, I've been meaning to fit them in somewhere for Maddie but we are always so flat out. I got a baby swim suit today at target for $10.00 and its gorgeous. I wanted little bikini's (for indoor swimming of course) but they had none. Perfect that the boys are straight after.
Renee - LMAO a dolphin, aww!
Leanne - glad you had a better nights sleep. Hope you enjoy your evening with the boys teacher :)
cally - clever Katie being able to sit up. Hannah has done it a couple of times too - when Zoe has plopped her up and then let go!!! Zoe loves picking Hannah up and walking her around - just like a puppet - and she just loves it. (i'm always stopping their fun though)
noni- my dh and i get narky at each other quite regularly. It's only normal - life would be too stressful if we bottled up our feelings all of the time.
Hayley- plenty of time for extra curricular activities - you've got plenty on your plate. You could start her swimming lessons at bath time anyway :)
hi everyone!
noni well done on the weightloss - you're doing so well! i am v jealous!
leeann - glad the eyes are better and you are getting some sleep.i really admire you i dont know how you get everything done w all three of them. same to jaz, sherie and md! hats off to u all ladies
went to mum and bub session at movies today - so great!!! will def be doing that more often.
i postponed the fdc interview as i want dh t come with me. int with the nanny went well last night - tho it was bedtime for N and so he started crying when she heldhim.. and i could tell she felt bad! i didnt mind though... and she handled it well.
what is this bath thing they like? i only shower N but he is getting a bit heavy for that now!! dh is away for 10 das from sat so i will struggle w the showering i think. am going to melb though so i will have some help w him.
v disrupted sleep here lately - little man seems to want 2 onight feeds... hmmmm... i hope this is just a stage!
where is queenie????
Cally, E usually stays up for between 2-3 hours, depending on how intensively she has been 'entertained' in that time. She's always exhausted for her first morning sleep because H plays with her when she's all giggly in the mornings and it wears her out! It's a bummer because I'd like to be able to drop H off to school then run any errands/go to the shops etc before coming home and putting her down to sleep but it's a bit of a disaster...I have to bring her home then go out again later in the morning. Also clashes a bit with most group activities that all start around 9.30-10.00. That's pretty amazing of K to be sitting like that already!
Hayley the study plan (that is teetering on disaster already  LOL) is to put in a couple of nights after the kids are all in bed plus a bit of reading throughout the week when E is sleeping (daytime) plus the odd weekend afternoon when DH is home. However this has already been thrown out by deadlines for my other project work so for the last week I've been doing that instead. God I feel exhausted just thinking about it all. I feel a bit overcommited right now but I think it will be a better balance once my project is finished. For me it's really important to still plan family time and stick to that no matter what else is happening.
Fianne I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for your settling trick!
Well remind me to tell you all one day about what it's like trying to do research at the National Library (silent reading room) with a grumpy baby in tow. All I can say the acoustics are splendid there and E's high pitched squealing reverberated magnificently for the benefit of all the listeners! Lucky I had a boob handy :cryinglaugh: Actually she was pretty good (minus a few seconds of squealing) except it took 4 times longer than usual to get my stuff. I'm exhausted now by what would have been (without a baby) an easy half hour.
Hello to everyone else! I've been reading but not digesting - but I just wanted to say (yet again) how you all wonderful women each and everyone help keep me sane. xxx
hello hello
just popped on to say i bought asha a bath seat n some bath toys today n she had a great time in the bath with them even though we had to wake her to bath her.. i knw i knw dumb right? but shed vomited on herself all day long n it was getting late.. luckily shes fine n it went well :)
hi everyone!
noni, congratulations on your weight loss. you should really be proud of yourself for consistently losing weight. and i personally think that it's good that you're losing a little at a time coz' you're supposed to be able to keep the weight off better that way than when you lose it too fast. spats with dp....have had quite a bit of those too. some things are just so infuriating and being tired after a full day with only kiddie conversation, patience just dwindles to nothing.
would just love to try max in the bath but we don't have one! we've been bathing her in her baby bath and we got the biggest one that we could find so that should be ok for a while. :crossfingers:
on the other hand, we had our first dip in the pool last weekend. since last weekend was the only "summer day" we've had in brisbane. she enjoyed being in the pool. that was, until i accidentally got water in her mouth. oops! that got screams. will be adding a picture of her in the pool on my gallery after posting.
cally, babies really just develop differently. max is rolling but not sitting. katie's sitting but not rolling. :) good job katie!
hayley, sounds like a full plate. i do admire everyone (specially those who are back at work and/or has more than 1 bub) for being able to multi-task. am quite ashamed to admit that all i'm able to do is care for max. the house is not the cleanest (still considering getting a cleaner 1x a fortnight), dp sometimes ends up having to iron his work clothes, i plan dinner and dp prepares/cooks it (this is because of timing...i'm usually feeding max at around the time dinner should be prepared).
pregpan, went to mums n bubs movie too! max started crying with the loud sound and darkness but after a few minutes, she relaxed. actually sat through the first 15 mins (at least) watching the movie on my lap.
jazmum, when are we going for coffee?
renee, cute pics of rory.
sorry for anyone i missed. am sending this off before i lose it.
ok i feel like the worst mother in the world right now!!
ashas been trying to sit up in her carseat and i thought her last weight was 7.9 at the drs at 4mths so i thought ok at 5mths she would be 8kgs and i could turn it around and see if she stops doing that coz i am worried about her neck..
so i turned it around the other day and thankfully we hadnt needed to go anywhere and tonight i looked in her blue book and her last weigh in was 6.9kgs ahhhhhhhhhhh so i would have put her in there not big enough yet :( i feel so terrible right now i cant even explain it
noni, no need to feel so bad. max weighs 6.6 and i've already got her in the non-capsule type car seat and facing forward. she's been a happier baby since i turned her around. but, in saying that, was told by chn that legal age to turn their seat around is 6 mos.
speaking of car seats, i bought this thing from toys r us that keeps their head from slipping to the side. it's like those airplane pillows that you can buy but this is a pair of rectangular pillows that velcros around the straps. used it for the first time today and it worked! she fell asleep on the drive home and her head stayed up. oh, also got her these things that keeps the strap together. they snap close around the straps and keeps them together in case the straps are loose. am i vague enough about these things? just wanted to share this in case any of the bubs need it.
fiannne that does make me feel better :) my car seat says 8kg or 6mths i assumed that ment whichever comes first but maybe it means not until they hit six months and are atleast 8kgs its pretty vague i am confused... our carseat has a retractor that pulls the straps in tight is that what u mean?
not really noni. the thing i'm talking about pulls the 2 straps closer together for added safety. no arms going through the straps while in the car seat. got it coz i noticed that though straps seemed tight when i put her in, they didn't look as tight after she wriggled around some. so, being the paranoid mom that i am, got this thing to make doubly sure she doesn't escape.
good morning everyone!
Fianne, I used those head holder pillows to start with so W's head didn't wobble but he cried every car trip until I took it out - complete opposites!
Noni, I am competing for the worlds worst mother award. I left W sitting on a chair and he dived to get a toy off the floor and went head first. He has carpet burn on his nose. The way his body flipped upward, I thought his neck was going to snap. I cried longer than he did.
Cally, hope you are getting some sleep.
I wanted to ask you guys if any other bubs cry in their sleep? In the past week Will has been groaning/mornful crying but his eyes are closed and he wriggles around with his mouth open looking for boob. Feeding him is the only way to resettle. He is doing this about 4-5 times a night now.
I hung out my washing this morning and put Will on the ground next to me. He was sitting there picking dandelions and examining them. It was sooo cute.
Sorry for everyone I have missed, I think the lack of sleep is getting to me. I can't remember what I just read lol. I keep making stupid mistakes like forgetting my groceries at the supermarket and using a similar but wrong word for objects (like table instead of chair, or spoon instead of fork).
arte - i think as for bubbies hurting themselves it startsnow n dosnt end! dnt blame urself couldve happened toany of us!! asha cries or grizzles in her sleep sometimes but she stays asleep n stops, sorry thats not much help to u...
fianne - ohhh k think i knw what u mean what u mean ashas car seat straps are tight do u have a retractor? maybe shes smaller then ash..
off shopping this morning asha is having her milk as i type one handed we r running a bit late lol oops she might have to have her cereal earlier than usual which might not go down well (earlier as in closer to her morning bottle)
What happens with all the prams at the mums and bubs movie sessions? Are they all parked in the foyer?
Arte - K whinges sometimes in her sleep, I don't know if her eyes are open or not and she just resettles, we just hear her in the lounge room and look at each other in a panic thinking she's about to wake up!!
MD - Poor you with E at the library, yay for magic boobies!!
Didn't get to try K kicking around in the bath last night. DH let most of the water out so she could try, but he then decided she was cold. Will try one night when he's not there!
Hi Girls,
Hello to everyone:hello:
Well we went to the parent teacher night and it turns out my boys are like the Van Wilder of Day Care. They can seem to get all the kids in the class sitting all in a circle and singing along to songs. ( I am sitting here laughing ) Teachers told us they are great boys which makes me very happy and proud.
Noni- Olivia is now turned around in her car seat and she loves it.
Art- How is NZ. Sorry to hear you are in need of sleep.
All is good for me. Talk to you all soon
Leanne - that is great news. I bet you were a real proud mama !!!
cally - how did Katie sleep last night? one of the mums from Zoe's kindy was telling me about a new book she has found 'Save our sleep' by Tizzie Hall. funnily enough i was reading a athread about it before i saw her yesterday. anyway, she said her daughter has gone from waking 3 or 4 times a night to sleeping right through. Apparently it is a very regimented routine though - and i think for me personally it would add too much stress. i am thinking of having a look at it though.
noni - how are you going today?
lots of busy mummies at the moment - hi to queenie, oz, supa and everyone else too.
fianne -maybe we can organise a catch-up when you get back from your holidays. I'm organising a 6th birthday party for Jess next week - having 16 girls for a Disco Party. Then i've got Hannah's baptism to organise. Does that sound ok with you?
jazmum, brave of you to have that many kids around. but then again, you've got the experience so it's probably a breeze for you. anytime's fine with me. maybe we can see if any other queenslander want to catch up with us too. think will check out that book too. had a pretty bad night last night. in bed at 8'ish. got her up at 10:30 for dream feed and nappy change (bad rashes so been changing often). woke at 1'ish, 2'ish, 4'ish....hmmmm....maybe i've got the times wrong but pretty sure i got up at least 2x and dp got up at least 2x.
leanne, your boys sound like they're a credit to their mum.
cally, some have prams parked on the aisle where it's wide but most prams are parked before going into an aisle or up the stairs and to the side lining up to outside. (gosh, don't know if i'm making sense here....need sleep)
Jazmum- I hope the party goes well it sounds like heaps of fun. Yep I am certainly very proud of my boys.
Fianne- Sorry to hear that max is not sleeping well. I hope you get some sleep tonight. I thank god every day for all my babies. Children bring so much joy to life.
Well its my mums birthday today and I just remembered I have to go pick up her cake. Oh boy..... we are having a family bbq at her house tonight. Dad bought her the most wonderful bunch of flowers today it was really sweet.
leanne - hope you have a nice evening
fianne - you're lucky your dh helps you out through the night. Hannah is a real mummy's girl at the moment. She won't let dh rock her to sleep - starts screaming.
we just went to the chiropractor again. He noticed that she had a bump to the right side of her face - near her eye. He put his finger on the roof of her mouth and performed some kind of magic lol.
i think Hannah is getting a cold again - and probably conjunctivitis like the girls:(
Jazmum- You poor love I dread it when one gets a cold or anything cause it then goes though the whole family and feels like it never ends. Hope all your bubbas are well soon.
I just had a quick peek into the September belly buddies thread for this yr, isnt it amazing to think how fast time has flown for us! All the girls are 12 or so weeks pregnant and so excited, seems like that was us yesterday.
OMG soooo hot here today, almost 40 deg or maybe it has reached 40 deg by now. I wouldnt have normally left the house on such a hot day with Maddie, but I had uni, which was absolutely fantastic but scary at the same time. I'm really looking forward to getting into my study, its another challenge I guess. The unit I am doing is ecology of children (0-3yrs) which is about how various things influence what kind of a person they will be when they grow up. It is very interesting, and really hits home at how critical it is that babies get stimulation, love and attention from day one. Kinda made me a bit paranoid hahaha!!!
Leanne - Aw how gorgeous, your boys sound wonderful. :) Enjoy the bbq
Pregpan - How is your search for suitable care for Noah going?
Marydean - Thanks for your study tips!!!
Arte & Noni - Dont beat yourself up, you are both great mummies!!
Fianne - Glad you enjoyed the mums and bubs session, what movie did you see?
Cally - Aw dad spoiled the bath time fun! :) I can see what you mean about them getting cold though, dont know what your weather has been like lately but we have been having very hot days so we havent had that problem. Wondering what it will be like in winter, hopefully they can sit then.
I am still deciding whether to drop work, gosh its so confusing. I think at the moment I am managing because Maddie is a good baby, she is no hassle to me at all. She sleeps straight through from 6/7pm to 8am in the morning, every night (touch wood). However I am keeping in mind that more than likely she will change her pattern soon and then how will I cope with working and studying on top of caring for Maddie. Sorry for always rabbiting on about this lol. I dont expect anyone to reply about it, it just makes me feel better to get it out in the open iykwim.
Hope you are all having a lovely day!!
Jazmum & Leanne - Its horrible when bubs get sick, cant imagine having to deal with more than one sick child. Also dont know what you hubbys are like, but when mine gets a cold I know alllll about it, he gets the stupid man cold iykwim!!! Hope Hannah manages to avoid it this time.
