well i ended up going and making something new for ashas dinner lol and when i went to the freezer i noticed everything i have in there is orange lol sweet potato chicken and corn, pumpkin and mixed vegies and nectarine lol i thought i better make something not orange so we went for beef, potato a little pumpkin and peas just so it was more green and not orange haha.. it wasnt her favourite but she enjoys sweeter things better, she was happy to eat it though and still dosnt eat heaps at dinner time yet just a lil bit though shes a guts at lunch time lol and breaky too!! she has eaten sooo much today i cant believe it..
arte - wimily how cute!!!! his job is going really well thanks for asking.. hes really happy in it, makes things alot easier..
sherie - lol dh thought he said it how funny.. wow one meal a day asha is such a gutso!! i didnt think of milk arrowroot biccies...
-
hello everyone!!
well, i tell you, you go offline for a couple of days and you miss so much action in here! LOL
thanks for everyone who asked about the photoshoot, i think it went pretty well. i'll let you all know if they decide to publish any. i should be getting a disk with some snaps on it soon so i may put some in the gallery for you all!! i put one new pic in there of lewis in his new little winter hat. so cute!
pregpan- the hills is totally trashy but so enjoyable. the characters have great names like Audrina and Whitney and Spencer. you'll love it! you sound like an awesome cook, i want to come to your place for dinner!
renee- the clean up has been going well, we had a big bonfire on saturday to get rid of some of the fallen branches. it turns out that the winds up here were 117kms! where did you get that mushroom chicken recipe from? it sounds beautiful. i really need to use my slow cooker more. i can highly recommend the aldi nappies to you. they're about $15 for 50 and i actually think they're better than huggies.
katie- i love getting my eyebrows done. it's the one beauty treatment i still keep up regularly, everything else has gone to the wayside! did you end up going to the bonds shop? yes i watched 'a shot at love' but i would never admit that!!! did you watch 'rock of love' with bret michaels from Poison? it was hilarious
jaz- i'm into America's next top model too, i like the Aussie one even better though..will you be watching the new season of it when it comes on? i need someone to talk trash with :) i think i'm the newest member of the 'no sex' club. we just never seem to dtd anymore!
hayley- did you get a good price for your hab on ebay? i think i might sell mine after the next bubs. i really only used it for about 3 months.
md- i think foxtel helps you to be a great single mother! my dp pays for it so he can have the freedom to spend hours on end in the garage without getting hassled. he only comes in when he needs to do number twos! how did your dh go at the vet?
sherie- oohh your hair sounds great. i don't think i'll ever get to the hairdressers again! do you give A a whole biscuit or do you break it up? i want to give that a go
agnes- lewis is the same as W with refusing ebm in a bottle. it's a hassle isn't it?
noni- well done on taking asha to the hairdressers with you! that's awesome
arte- you did the right thing with the cat- put it out of it's misery, so don't feel guilty. what a horrible thing to go through...
-
Just a quick one from me
MD how did your DH go today?
Gracie I have only just got Foxtel so I haven't got hooked on much yet. I love the health channel though and watch that mostly. Can't wait to see the pics, how was the shoot?
Arte I agree and think you did the right thing with the cat, how awful though.
Noni sounds like you are going great with solids. We gave Logan some arrowroot biccies on the weekend.
Pregpan I think we have the same book, is it 100 best baby purees (something like that), I love it.
Hayley working at Portrait place was actually pretty boring, I had all the crap jobs lol.
Hi to everyone else. I am tired again tonight (don't know why) so I will chat to you all tomorrow.
-
Its 8.30 and I'm only now sitting down, been on the go since 7am!!!!
Is anyone getting the free flu injection for their bubs/kids? I am getting Maddie's 6 mth needles this Wed so I'm going to ask the doc if I can get the flu shot while we are there. I figure being in day care she will need it, and especially after last winter when all the worried parents were lining up at the hospital with sick bubbas.
Katie - Cant believe Logan is 7 months already. He's growing fast!
Gracie - I'm looking forward to the pics as well! I got $90 for my Hab but it was a limited edition one.
Pregpan - Why cant I be as inspired as you when it comes to cooking!? My specialties are simple things like tacos. Yet here I am studying to be a home ec teacher haha! Mind you I did go on the search for yummy puree recipes today and I found a few that I will try later in the week. I'll let you know if they work out and we can all swap recipes. Re chicken, how do you cook it to make it soft enough for puree? Steam?
Arte - Oh no so after your cook up DH went out anyway!? Grr bet he is in the bad books! Sorry about the cat, how distressing. :(
Sherie - We are kinda plodding along slowly with solids too. The biccie sounds like a nice special treat, will have to keep that one in mind.
Clare - The ticker looks great, well done!
Marydean - You are supermumma in my eyes thats for sure. And you have two beautiful daughters, you must be so proud. How did the operation go?
Leanne - Glad you had a nice night out! 3 will be enough for me as well I think.
Hi to everyone else that I have missed! Hope everyone is well.
-
am having oats atm its so cold here and rainy!! thought i might let asha have some as long as dp replies to me about the ingredients lol he took the box to work and i wanna make sure theres no honey in them so i smsd him lol.. do u think i should mik them with formula? or would a lil bit of milk be ok? she has had yoghurt with no problems..
i think i am giving asha too much potato lol everything i make seems to have potato or sweet potato lol do u think this will make her overweight?? i think i am being paranoid but all her dinners seem to have some form of quite heavy vege in it, she dosnt eat much at dinner time but still do u think thats bad??
haley - i didnt know about the free fkue injection.. we probably wont get it though i only just cope with the ones they have to have lol i am more sooky than she is..
katie - did he like the biccie? do they have sugar in them thos biscuits? i am a bit of a sugar nazi lol.. weve had foxtel for ages but really the only good thing about it is it gives us perfect reception there really dosnt seem to be that many good shows on it lol.. i was addicted to all the baby shows on dicovery health but now i cant watch them lol idk why makes me feel weird..
gracie - hahahahaha no sex club u can appoint me president i think..lmao.. just not overly interested there no time to sit down and relax little own dtd.. i do wonder sometimes if this is how it will be forever haha i think it might be different if we ever manage to get our own place, still living with ur father and his g/f is a bit of a turn of lmao..
-
Hi Noni! we just use the small pasta stars (they are really isty bitsy so no we dnt bother with blending them). also there is an italian brand of baby food and they do a whole range of pastas in different shapes and sizes according to age, the brand is plasmon and it's in a pink box. you can get them from most italian shops/delis (well in melbourne and canberra anyway...). i wouldnt worry too much about the heavy veges. it seems that asha isnt a big guts, especially at night. she'll eat her fill and be on her way. leila tends to always have a bit of potato at night with her pasta (carb overload - shell blame me when shes a teenager no doubt!!). oh and cous cous is awesome. really easy and leila loves the taste (again with olive oil or her father passes out with shame!)
yeah leila is behind in her shots. she has spent the last 3 weeks with a blocked nose, so i am hesitant to give her body more stuff to fight. i think i might avoid the flu shot for her as well.
thanks pregpan for all the tips especially the chicken and apple idea....mmmm i might cook it for myself! and congratulations on the quickest ikea trip ever!! i am sure that it's almost a record!! and congratulations to noah on all that growing! it sometimes feels as if leila will never hit the 50 percentile!! (she was itty bitty when born - just under 6lbs - so loads of catching up to do. one bubba girl in group with me who is 4 months is already heavier at 6.9kgs! we'll get there...eventually!
i agree ozstar, i am finding myself completely pooped again at the end of the day. and leila is even sleeping through again so i dont know whats going on. maybe the change of weather or the switch back to 'real time'...
oh and a quick question: is it ok for us to take normal multivitamins?? i have been finishing off my pregnancy/breastfeeding ones and yesterday i went to buy normal ones, but the pharmacist wasnt sure if i could take the general ones. i thought it would be ok???
oh gracie that bonfire sounds like it would have been fun! here the council is just leaving it all lying around, so some of the neighbours have been out there with chainsaws chopping it all up for firewood. and my dog has been bringing home humungous sticks!
MD i hope DH found the peas!! lol. in fact, i hope all went well and he's feeling ok. big stuff.
hi to everyone, i have to dash as we have mums group this morning in my fav cafe and i need to gorge on some well deserved cake.
take care :D
-
clare- whereabouts in melbourne are you??
noni- yes, i'm not too sure how long membership in the no sex club lasts for lmao! it seems that dp is happy to be in it too, i tried to initiate some nooky last night and he said he wasn't in the mood!
well, i'm off to get lewis' 6 months needles now. great! wish me luck...poor little man. i'm meeting up with a couple of girls from mothers group and they're getting their dd's needles at the same time so at least i'll have friends!
-
cassius - i dnt think i know what these pasta stars are lol ive never seen itsy bitsy pasta before lol am i sheltered?? haha.. lol carb overload i think asha is a bit carb overloaded lol now ive got a few dinner things in the freezer i need to start concentrating on lunch things though lol get her off the jar foods that shes been having for lunch.. i gave her oats this morning with nectarine, water and a splash of milk i thought shed love it but she prefered her raffertys cereal lol she didnt eat much of it then when i had toast she winged for me to give her some lol so she had that as well.. asha is behind with her shots too she was 6mths on the 26th last month and hasnt had them yet now that shes better i do need to get on to that but its hard for me to get to my drs without dp driving us so it prob wont be till the weekend...
gracie - its the other way around here i think my dp is permanently in the mood he is always annoying me grabbing my bum etc lol sorry for the tmi lol.. goodluck with the needles.. good that u'll have some moral support!!
-
Hi everyone, I was in the middle of posting last night when there was a spectacular incident involving the cat's claws, my hand, a cup of tea and DH's work laptop (!) So I gave up. Fortunately DH has the robust laptop version .
Thanks everyone for your kind thoughts yesterday. DH is in fact rather chipper, and who wouldn't be since they gave him ENDONE . I mean, seriously - minor procedure, people! They were still offering him a GA just minutes before he got it done under local and he couldn't see what the fuss was. I think the local is more labour intensive for them as the nurse has to supply a steady stream of conversation for half and hour or so LOL. He's walking like a cowboy but not game to complain because he knows I'll just laugh at him. LOL No I've actually been quite nice and considerate to him.
Well, DH had a strategic conversation with one of the decision makers yesterday and it turns out there's a sliver of a chance that we could still be going home at the end of the year (another person is thinking of leaving and that would create a vacancy). If not, they will put DH into a job here that no one else wants to do for 2 yrs, then the sweetener is a guaranteed move home at the end of it. Which is 2nd best but it's better than a huge question mark hanging over your future and IMO the job here is a really good one for creating career pathways for DH away from his current employer so that could be a good thing in the longer term as well. So I'm feeling better than I have for a good week now, more positive about things.
I also had a brainwave regarding how to cope when DH goes OS...I hope it doesn't reflect badly on me as a parent but it's important to set up coping mechanisms since I found out last year that my friends here are a bunch of fair-weathers. Basically the plan is to book E in FDC for 3 short days a week...it gives me a chance to sleep (if we've had a rough night) or catch up on housework or do the grocery shopping or even godforbid get out for some 'me time' while H is at school. It seems so obvious but I've gone from feeling completely bleak about his trip to feeling like there's a way through it, which is probably the difference between good health and antidepressants. I'll be going back to work shortly after DH gets home so we'll just extend those 3 days in care to cover my work hours and it fits into place.
Well I've ordered my Ergo (got it from ABA in the end, chose 'cranberry') now I'm just excitedly waiting for it to arrive.
Clare, cake AND mum's group - what a combo, enjoy!
Arrowroot biccies - aaah I can't wait til we get onto wheat! Soooo much easier. Pregpan, I'm loving the sound of your chicken and apple recipe too, sounds ideal for introducing meat as it will have that nice sweetness. Couscous is a great idea, we also used to do little semolina puddings for DD sweetened with maple syrup and vanilla.
OK, I'm off to hassle the FDC coordinator again plus I forgot to eat breakfast this morning!
-
am starting to worry about ashas development!! no words, not close to crawling or sitting by herself :( the only thing she does is eat hahahaha.. should i be worried?? i think its hard for her to move around because i put a blanket down on the lino floor and its slippery.. ive tried today to put the corners under somnthing so the blanket cant move (its a really big blanket) but she still dosnt seem to get it.. i try really hard to help her get her arms and legs into the right position but her arms dont seem strong enough and she gets angry at me :(
md - glad the op went well and u have found a solution your happy with and will hopefully get some well deserved me time!!
-
For those of you worried about the flu shot giving them the flu, apparently it doesnt. They had a big write up about it in the weekend newspaper.
Marydean - Putting E into FDC sounds like a good plan. Its hard work looking after a bub on your own, so do whatever you need to, to keep yourself and your family happy.
Gracie - How did Lewis' needles go?
Clare - How was mums group?
Noni - My DP is the total opposite when it comes to rootie tooti atm, we both have no interest lol. Its very sad!!!
I forgot to mention the other day, we have booked a holiday YAY! We are going for 5 days in Penang & 3 in Kuala Lumpur in Sept this yr. We were thinking of going for longer, but we decided to take it easy seeing as this is Maddie's 1st holiday and we arent sure how she will react etc. Hopefully she will have a ball, swimming etc, she will be close to 1 by then.
-
Noni - Maddie is exactly the same! She isnt rolling, no where near crawling, no babbling etc. She is just happy to be on her back. I wouldnt worry atm, some just take their time.
-
Hello Everyone!
Marydean, glad to hear that DH came out the 'other side' OK. Dh did the cowboy walk for a few days too LOL. His soreness has only just gone now 6wks after it was done. I think your plan for when DH is OS is great - you really have to do whatever it takes to make sure you stay in a good head space. I think I might have to come and visit though to keep you company ;) Are there any good exhibitions coming to the Nat, museum? Big decision too on what to do about the job prospects too.
Hayley, the holiday sounds fab! you will have a great time.
Clare, if you are after something instead of pg vitamins, go for In-Liven, 100% organic probiotic that is perfectly safe in BF. I'm going to order some today too. Leila sounds like such a gorgeous little bundle of girl! She will catch up when she is good and ready to :)
Gracie, I can't wait to see a pic of you - boom-chicka-wow-wow ;)
Noni, don't worry about the type of vege she is having, it really doesn't matter at this age.
I give a whole arrowroot biccie to him, it is really easy for him to hold. MD, I haven't noticed any change in his eczema from having them (which is practically non-existent now anyway) so I guess wheat is safe for him at this stage.
One thing I have noticed though with the rafferty's puree's, has anyone using them noticed how they nearly all hve apple with the vege ones? I tell you what, it would appear that apple is the trick to make even the most unpalatable vege go down a treat LMAO - even I could stomach tasting the spinach, brocolli, apple and pea one because all you can really taste is the sweetness of the apples. He is really enjoying it now and woofing it down. Not ready to try two meals though apart from the odd biccie and piece of carrot etc from my plate. He is doing just fine without it at this stage.
Oh and he was in such a foul mood last night, so whingy and grizzly, just like when he was teething, but I don't think it is teeth as he had a good sleep and settled easy. Mind you he did sleep with me last night becuase I was really tired and didn't want to be up and down all night if he was restless. The cheeky little monkey though is over estimating his abilities and keeps trying to pull himself up - and keeps tumbling down too.
-
Noni and Hayley, I wouldn't worry either, but there are some fun things you can do that will also help a bit. I've just recently got a copy of the Baby Play book by the gymbaroo people (ebay) and it has all sorts of cool games you can play that help them with those skills...the book is divided into 4 sections, birth-3 mths, 3-6, 6-9 and 9-12 mths then there's a toddler book as well. I'm having trouble with some of the 6+ month ones because E doesn't sit by herself yet but we've been having fun with the 3+ months ones. And babies can learn through play.
Re the flooring, E had a wonderful time when we were away because she got plonked down on so many different types of floors, and had fun looking, touching, rolling and rocking on them, she was really amazed by the whole thing LOL. Noni if the lino is slippery, could you get a piece of carpet offcut (usually pretty cheap from the flooring shops) instead of the blanket or even under the blanket? Or you can buy that rubber grippy underlay stuff by the meter at Clarks rubber. Also you can get the little socks for them (bonds) that have the little grip pads on the bottom, that can help as well. It's amazing what different things they will do on different surfaces.
ETA Yes Sherie, a visit please *claps hands*! I'm sure there will be something good on in the nation's capital!
ETA2 - good his eczema has settled down, Sherie, it can be a real bother for them. Sounds like he's going to be a climber, will all that pulling up that's happening ;)!
-
thanx for the reassurance guys :)
sherie - i have noticed that about the raffertys pures lol we havnt used them before except for the blueberry one to flavour cereal a while back.. i just use the Only organic range or Heinze organic while i am catching up on freezing all the meals different fruit flavours and a custard she had as well.. ive found asha will eat veges without the sweetness so i am trying to stick to that.. though she hates carrot lol...
md - good ideas (as always) with the rubber or carpet.. atm we are house hunting though so it seems a waste to buy something for here and then find we are moving and dont need it if we dnt get this house we have recently applied for though i will look into it coz who knows when we will get a house grrrr
-
Noni if I were you I'd get a piece of carpet anyway because it will always come in handy somewhere, even if it's just out on the back verandah on a hot day. I thought of it because I'm thinking of getting a couple - one for under the highchair (so we don't wreck the carpet LOL) although this will prolly be a washable rug - and one for in the kitchen because the floor is so cold in winter and missy E might like to sit in there with me sometimes.
-
yeah good point the only reason im not sure is because the house we applied for is fully carpeted lol where do u get just a piece of carpet from anyway?? will it still slide on the lino do u think?? lol do u have instant messenger? its almost like we are posting straight away in here lol
-
Noni I *usually* have MSN messenger but not right now as I'm on DH's work puter and i don't want to load too much nonwork stuff on it...but add me to yours (my emails in my profile, remove the 'nospam').
Meet you in the live chat room??
-
livechat room dosnt work on this comp as the firewall blocks it :( i will add u to my msn though
-
Poo! Ok, well I was going to say you can get carpet offcuts at any of the shops that sell carpet or flooring (ie BigCarpet King, Carpet Giants, etc)...or you can get small-medium rubber-backed rugs from places like Kmart, Spotlight, BigW or even Bunnings. Rubber backed is probably a good idea although they don't last as long because the rubber perishes after a few years.
-
yeah sorry about that everytime i try and make it work the stupid computer wont let me install what i need even though i am a moderater on the comp and should be able to install what i want lol i will try again though anyway lol.. i saw some funky ones at ikea actually i should have got one damn it!! i dnt know if i can convince dp to go there again with me ugh ikea is a nightmare but they have so many nice things!!
-
nope my version of windows wont let me install the software needed to run livechat because its an unknown publisher :(
-
Owwwwww he keeps biting my nipple!
Just wanted to pop on and say that a good idea for under the highchair is a cheap shower curtain - they rinse off easily and dry quickly.
-
that is a good idea arte.. they also have those messy mats in the baby section at big w which are good for once they start painting etc too
-
great idea arte re the shower curtain, DH and I were just talking about what to use for under the highchair so i will be off to get one of those soon...
hope everyone is well today... had a nice walk this morning around thelake witha friend, i used to go nearly every day but i have been so slack lately. must get it back on the agenda (now that i am going back to work lol). i am starting work on the 21st. i decided to go with the aus job for now, much more flexible etc - will work mon-tue-wed to start and then add fridays in a month or 2.
Did i tell you all i have added 1 formula feed a day in prep for work (when i think it willbe too hard for me to express enough for all 3 days)? he has really taken to it, will even take the bottle from me now... i moved to tommee tipee closer to nature bottles and he seems happier with that. have not had any probs mpoving to formula either, a few spews v early on but i think i was giving him too much as the tin said 250ml. now he takes max 120ml and also i oticed i need to burp him a lot more, he must take in a lot more air withthe bottle. anyway i am happy w that!
By the way sorry i never updated you - I am not preg!!! phew!
My ILs are here this weekend so trying to think what to do with them. i might get them to watch N on Fri a little bit so i can get a facial - they dont seem to be happy unless they get him alone so that will work well both ways!
Clare - i just boight some of that pasta - assuming you mean the soup pasta (little stars and circles) - i also thought you could use risoni???
ETA - OK I have been cooking again today... lentils this time. My guru Annabel Karmel says that lentils are a good food for babies once established on solids but bit hard to digest so important to use lots of vegies as well. i make a great lentil and vege soup for DH and I so i have made a huge batch of that and have mashed some of it down for Noah... he will get it for dinner tonight so we will see how it goes. anyway for anyone interested here's what i use - onion, leek, olive oil (cook these together) add red lentil and tomatoes (i used a tin of good italian ones) and then veges (i use pumpkin, carrot, courgette, potatoe and sometimes a red or orange pepper), add some stock and water and cook for 25 mins then spice (i use corriander seed, cumin, chilli - i usually add salt but none this time as for Noah, can add salt when serve it).then cook for further 20 mins. YUMMO. We eat this with a nice seeded bread for dinner or lunch and i think it is a good one to puree down for bub...
-
hi everyone
have just read through the posts, and silly me didn't write down any notes, so forgive me if i don't do personals for everyone.
md - i'm so happy to read that things are looking up for you. You used to say something about the universe eventually working things out?? (what is it you say again?) The fdc idea sounds like a really good one.
sherie - seems i'm doing the same as you with regards to solids at the moment. I'm just taking it nice and slow, especially since Hannah's had quite a few digestive issues of late.
pregpan - glad the highchair is a good one. I was tossing up whether to buy one, but in the end i decided to buy a new seat cushion for my very old Peg Perego (at least 11 years old!!!!
gracie - i will definitely be watching Aus next top model. I'll talk trash tv with you lol.
Well the christening went really well on sunday. Hannah loved having the warm water poured over her head, and was a very happy bub for the whole ceremony.
I had just enough food for everyone, (with a little left over) and everyone seemed to have a good time, which is was great. She got lots of really nice presents too.
Hannah is now standing in her cot when she wakes in the morning. It's so beautiful to go into her first thing, and she greets us with a big smile. (everyone races to be the first to get the morning smile)
best go now and do something productive. catch you all again soon.
-
Pregpan, funny you should mention that about the soup, I made some yesterday too and I have always given it to the kids as babies. I make mine with soup mix (red lentils, yellow and green split peas and pearl barley), vegetable stock, and seasonal winter veges - potato, pumpkin, swede, parsnip, carrots, celery, onion and a wee bit of salt and pepper, but yeah, I didn't add the salt either and had to add it when we had it for dinner last night. I filled up a tupperware ice cube tray with it so have plenty in reserve for him.
-
Noni, I just quickly popped on to say I got an awesome little (well its actually huge) foam play mat from the reject shop. It is an alphabet jigsaw one so it'll be a pain when they get older and learn to pull it apart, but it was only $15.00 & so colourful! It has grippy bits on it too so would be perfect for Asha.
-
Hi Jaz, we posted at the same time! I really happy that Hannah's Christening went off so well for you. You must have been exhausted by the end of the day though.
-
thanx haley will have to look for one when i go shopping tmw.. id like a rug from ikea ut they are pretty expensive lol does maddie like the play mat??
-
