pregpan -not giggling at all - i wrote everything down when Jess was a baby too. Now to help me remember which side i need to feed on first at the next feed - i either sing Beyonce's 'To the left, to the left' or 'Right, right, your bloody well right'. lol.
-
Lol at the songs Jazmum, now I have Beyonce stuck in my head.
Pregpan I write down what time I feed, how long and which side. I am also trying to get Logan to go longer between feeds by trying to get him to take both sides.

Just a quick hello!!
We have had a very tough couple of weeks!... Kaylee was born on the Sat, on Tues we came home from hospital, only just got the ok - as Kaylee had lost 10% of her birth weight and was a little jaundice, but blood test came back as below the requirement for phototherapy. Then had visiting midwife Wed & Thurs, and Friday had a different one who took on look at Kaylee and was very concerned. Her jaundice was quite bad and she had little pussy pimple looking rash all over her body - quite bad on her neck and face... She organised for us to go back into the hospital to see the paediatrician, who examined Kaylee, ordered some blood tests and had us admitted back into hospital and Kaylee put straight under the double phototherapy lights! We ended up spending the weekend in hospital and Kaylee was under the lights for nearly 48-hours. The Dr was also concerned she might have an infection, which she didn't thankfully - but her jaundice was a lot worse than we originally realised. Turned out she wasn't getting much milk from my boobs, if anything. So spent the entire time at hospital, every 3-hours = express, then b/f, then top-up with EBM & BMS, then express again. Continued b/f, topping-up with EBM & BMS, and expressing for another week after leaving the hospital for the second time - to discover that my supply still wasn't increasing, even with the drugs they had given me and it seams my 'tubes' or something not quite right in my boobs as the flow also extremely bad, i.e. anatomy problem. So eventually after lots and lots of stress and tears, and Kaylee still not gaining weight even with top-ups, we gave in and accepted my body simply not suited to b/f and switched to formula 100% on Sunday. Since then Kaylee is doing 200% better and so am I, and as of yesterday weigh with the child health nurse she has finally put on weight and is now over her birth weight :)!!!
Still very tired and not a lot of spare time, I dunno how you ladies have time/energy to be online so much?!
Hope you are all well and happy!! And everyone is enjoying their little bundle of joy :)!!
-
wow, what an ordeal Peta, but WELL DONE on getting through to the other side!! So glad to hear she's improved beyond measure. I've just looked at all the photos - she is absolutely GORGEOUS!!! You look serene - so happy.
LOL about the boobie songs Jazmum & Pregpan!
wonderful news Cally - what a relief.
TAX IS DONE!!!! I guess there's not much to do now but try and keep the place clean, spend more quality time with the furkids and go bravely in for the bikini wax today... Had a sudden urge to do more work on my thesis (there's some more stuff I wanted to get done before the baby arrived) but frankly my brain is still mush.
Did anyone else notice their eating habits deteriorating dramatically in the last few weeks? I am back on the chocolate like there's no tomorrow and craving sugar. Ick. The fat ankles are returning too - starting to feel like a pufferfish.
-
Oh Peta sounds like you have had a rough trot lately. Glad to hear both you and Kaylee are doing better now though.
Queenie not long to go now, sit back and enjoy the rest while you can.
DH has gone away for work today and wont be back until tomorrow arvo, I am already feeling lonely, better go catch up with my old friend Cadbury.
-
Peta - wow like you say a very tough couple of weeks - so glad you've come out the other side now and are enjoying seeing little Kaylee thriving! Give yourself a huge pat on the back hun, you have put in an amazing effort!
Queenie, yes, sit back and enjoy the chocolate. I have a personal theory about fat ankles - in my case they are related to a high-GI diet so if you're eating a lot of sweets maybe that's bringing it on. Or there again, maybe it's because you're PREGNANT - and it's mother nature's way of making you sit on the couch and watch daytime tv in these last weeks when you need the rest! Woohoo on getting the Tax done, hope you get a nice lil windfall.
Katie - let us know how you get on flying solo! I have a friend called Haighs but it's a bit of a long-distance relationship right now...!
Jazmum - I like your tip of remember which side with a song, I know the lefty song but I don't know the righty one...I might have to give mine a political spin, lefty can be Kevin Rudd and righty can be John Howard...let's see if that works LOL!
OK, bit nervous today, have organised to get the house sprayed for spiders tomorrow (this place is INFESTED and has been ever since we moved in - usually do those spraycan bombs but it's getting out of hand this year) - so I'm very nervously going around the house putting away anything that might remotely come near E - they say it's safe but still...you always wonder.
-
Peta - wow, I can see why you must be exhausted. All that on top of the usual exhaustion that comes with a new bubba. So glad that you're both happy and doing well now that you've switched to the FF.
Katie - my Dh is away overnight tonight too. He had a work function last night as well and didn't get home until about 1am. I didn't get to give the girls a cuddle in their beds because Hannah was unsettled and wouldn't let me put her down. :( hoping tonight is a little different
Queenie- yay for getting your tax done.
Marydean - i can't stand spiders (or any creepy crawly for that matter) do you have to leave the house while they are spraying?
I went shopping with Z and H this morning. H was so good in the hab, (slept whole time) until we got in the car to go home - she screamed the whole way home. So much so that she was going hoarse! I get so stressed when she cries like that. I couldn't wait to get her home and give her a cuddle (she even had a trickling tear :( )
Off to the ob soon,so best go and have a shower and freshen up . (H is due for a feed right on appointment time - great!!)
-
hello everyone
peta - what a journey you have been on - I am glad you have come out the other side of it and both of you are doing well. That is what is important!
Ooh Jazmum I know how awful it feels when the bub gets real tears trickling down their cheeks - breaks your heart doesnt it! hope all went well at the OB.
Katie - I hope all goes ok with DH away for the night. I am dreading when I have to do a night by myself, even though i do all the night get ups etc it will be different when DH is away. I hope mr cadbury keeps you company..
Queenie - enjoy, it sounds like all is under control for you... dont even think about doing your thesis now!!!
MD - hope the creepy crawlies are gone...
I had an ABA meeting this morning whcih was ok - it was pretty small and i was expecting a bit more info but it was nice.. this afternoon i am off to have coffee with a friend, looking fwd to that we are going to a fab bakery and cafe so i am sure to indulge in something yummy!
I am just ordering thank you cards - need to get them out - i have about 80 to do!!!
hope you are all having a great day - it is lovely here so i am looking fwd to my afternoon walk!
-
hi all thanks for all the wonderful support and advice we had a better day yesterday so i am feeling a little refreshed... We were out most of the day shopping, Asha is always good when we are out lol she loves the pram and the car, i even elevated the pram slightly for her, coz it adjusts to how vertical you want it iykwim and she loved it...
yesterday in the late avo (her worst time for refluc etc) we ended up giving her gripe water and within a few minutes shed stopped crying and let me put her down.. she then slept for six hours had a feed and went another 6 before her next feed.. dp was a little concerned because it says it has alcohol in it (ethanol) and was wondering if thats why she slept so well.. it does say you can give it to newborns up tp 6 times a day though what do u guys think about just one dose if she needs it???
She also really enjoys sitting up now in her feeding pillow its really cute lol i think it helps her reflux to to be up a bit like a few of you suggested to me..
jazmum - does h not like the car? hope the ob appt goes well and the feed is not too tricky...
md - eeek spiders... i am such a wuss with stuff like that.. i am sure if they say its safe for children and pets then it will be but i understand the paranoia i worry about things like air freshener lol..
ozstar - hope everything goes ok without dh.. cadbury and i are also the best of friends haha
queenie - well done with ur tax! not long to go now!!!
peta - so glad to hear everything is ok now after that ordeal gosh how scary!!!
pregpan - 80 thankyou cards!!!!! gosh u must have a house full of presents!!
hi to everyone else sorry about not writing personals to everyone its hard when they are pages back and u dnt remember what everyone said!!!!

Hi
It didn't come across that we had to feed from both sides, I was just wondering. I think Will would go longer between feeds if he would drink more, but he only likes to snack. Today he hasn't had a drink longer than 10 minutes about every two hours. He is full of smiles today, so cute.
Does anyone know how old they are before their eyes are the permanent color? Wills eyes have lightened heaps and are now a lovely dark blue.
Not getting much sleep, in-laws are here and stayed up late being loud.
ETA - DH just came home with girl nappies (apparently the bright pink packaging didn't make him wonder) . Do you think it makes a difference or should I take them back for boy ones?
-
Hi everyone! I've been MIA due to preschool yesterday and Dr's today.
Noni, hun I really feel for you. You are doing a great job you know that don't you? It's hard when it seems like all they are doing is crying. If you think it is getting worse, I would take her to your GP and get her on some meds for reflux, it will take a while for it to become effective, but it will pay off in the end. Or it could be that she has an intolerance to the formula she is on, so you may need to change to another brand, but again see your GP about it and she may need to be tested to see if it is an intollerance, it is more common than you think.
Pregpan, how was the coffee and cake? I hope you had enough for me too ;). Don't worry about the amount of feeds he is having - he would be having more in each feed, whereas he was probably having smaller feeds more often before. I hope it does the trick and sorts out the 'girls'.
Jaz, how was your Ob appointment? I had my 4wk check and I didn't even get checked - not sure if that's his usual practice or not though, I'm used to having an internal etc with my old Dr after having the older kids.
Marydean, I would love to have this house sprayed too.
Katie, you will do just fine on your own! You will have to have some choccie for me though (can anyone tell I'm watching what I eat ATM? ;) )
Queenie, how did the waxing go? I never got round to it this time, and I honestly don't think I could have heaved my body onto the table anyway LOL. Woohoo for getting the tax done too!
Peta, oh hun, what an ordeal for you all. I am really glad Kaylee is on the mend - it must have been very worrying for you. I"m sure she will just thrive now that the jaundice has gone. And you did a tremendous job with the BF too.
Cally, that's a huge weight off your shoulders to know that everything is OK with the (.Y.). It is never something you should shrug off as being nothing, so don't feel silly about it at all.
Gracie, just keep telling yourself that it does get better and they get older and they don't grizzle as much. They go through so many developmental stages in the first 12mths that as soon as you get through one, you are into another one. Don't ever think that it's not because you aren't doing things right either - just do what your heart tells you is the right thing and you will do just fine.
Hi to everyone else! I really wish Mbear would post though. I think I might email her just to check in.
I think Alister is starting to form a more regular night pattern. for the last three nights I have had him fed and settled to sleep by 8.30 and then he wakes anytime after 4am, then down for another sleep till about 8am. I am really hoping he keeps the 8am feed as it makes life so much easier during the school week. When we were out shopping today, in one of the shops this older lady said "Oh, I hope you have a boy in there" (cause we had the pram) and when we said yes, she said "Oh that's clever, getting a boy after two girls" we had the girls with us, and the shop owner said as we were walking out "what would you have said if it was another girl?" and the first lady said "Oh, I don't know" I don't think she thought we'd hear that, and I had no idea what to say to that, except maybe for "how about don't comment at all then" but I go into that shop often and didn't want to seem like a cow kwim? We get the "oh how lucky to have two of each" quite a lot, but today it just bothered me for some reason.
-
Ok, lil Elisabeth is going for her first dr's appt tomorrow - looks like the Reflux Fairy has come to stay at our house for a while. One day, it's chance, two days, it's a coincidence, three days in a row there is a definite pattern emerging. It's just awful hearing her crying as she's obviously in pain, it's worse just after she's burped (you can hear all the liquid gurgling up inside). Poor lovey. It exhausts her too.
Ok, off to google treatments so I've got an idea what the Dr is talking about tomorrow!
-
Sherie I chickened out of the whole hoo-ha waxing - just got a short back & sides so to speak, no clippering (might do your trick and get DH need a scissors trim around the entrance) but the lash tint/brow shape always makes me feel a million dollars. Plus the girl I go to always stays in the room while your lashes are being done and gives you a hand massage... she rocks! Poor you - WHY do people always have to comment on gender?? grrrrr!
pregpan hope the cake was gooood!
MD poor Miss E - hope you get some answers tomorrow. BTW that makes SENSE about the fluid retention: 3 weekends of baby showers in a row = too much cake, esp when we always divvy it up at the end so everyone takes some home! Also had a Tim-Tam craving a week ago whereas usually I can't stand them (weird)! Ate heaps today but at least the bulk of it was salad sandwich (not counting the last Tim-Tam, iced chocolate and two homemade biccies ROFL), but can't seem to recognise the normal hungry/full cues and have felt slightly blah all day.
Had curry last night and DH limited himself to 2 beers after hearing Gracie's story (? it was you wasn't it G?) which he thought was the funniest thing he'd heard in a long time... I think he envies your DP's intercom!! Unfortunately I seem to have ended up with the flatulence today!
Got some stringy CM happenin' too! yet another fascinating change! hurrah for panty liners!!
have a great night everyone xx
-
Queenie, there's no such thing as too much cake!! :cryinglaugh: The stringy CM sounds like progress...! ;)
-
Queenie my dear, I do think that 'stringy mucus' is your plug coming away! IKWYM about not having the normal cues for hunger, I would over eat and then feel terrible for hours until it all digested.
Marydean, I really hope that it is just something you ate and not reflux at all.
-
Sherie, I'm pretty sure it's reflux as I've seen it before - she starts off feeding ok, then it starts - she's still hungry and wants to feed but arches her back and cries (with her mouth full of boob) and then the chucking starts (but it hurts and she doesn't settle afterwards like they do when they've let out a good windy burp or even a posset -if anything it hurts more). She was a happy chucker up until a few days ago and I've not eaten anything different in that time...but I'm on to it early and I'm pretty sure the treatment will go into effect before it turns into a nasty chronic painful thing. It's just a pain cos all the medecines are a bit of a pain to administer - I remember trying to mix up ridiculously small amounts of gaviscon powder for DD1. But Zantac and Losec have come along since then so we'll see what the Dr says tmrw.
-
Ahh, so you're not new to reflux then? Did H suffer with it badly? It is such a cruel thing for a baby to get, it really is. At least you will be more confident in dealing with it this time round and know the tricks to get a baby to take medicine.
-
H had it to what I would say was a mild to moderate degree but my sister suggested it might be reflux so I went to the Dr straightaway and she gave me a medicine which pretty much worked immediately - and then it was a case of managing the chucking by propping up the mattress, feeding posture, sling time etc - it resolved of itself after a few months - apparently the tummy sphincter thingy gets stronger around the time they start sitting up. So :crossfingers: it'll be the mild manageable scenario again. There is lots of really valuable advice as to medications and how to give them etc in the BB threads too so that'll help as well, I'm sure.
