Sherie, you’re the best! I just read Gracie’s post and was going to reply and you beat me to it! Regarding the scocial smile, he starts to do that just recently and moves my heart everytime :) He didnt want to give it to me in the first times, only did that in front of DH and made me feel like just a milk machine LOL
Gracie, some of my symptoms: deep breast pain, engorged breast, red streaks, temps.
Here is the link to the article Sherie posted last time:
Mastitis & Blocked Ducts - Symptoms and Treatments for Mastitis
And link to a thread I started under breastfeeding problems & support (see Barb’s note):
Thrush - how long to recover - BellyBelly Forums ~ Pregnancy, Birth & Baby
I think I have the little bed thing Sherie mentioned, it’s called 'secure sleeper' just in case you’re looking for it. Cant give you any recommendation though, havent actually used that
And yes, I went to tulip festival in silvan, it’s so lovely isn’t it. Just realised that you live in that area, our close friend lives in Monbulk and we visit them quite frequently. I just love the mountain! Maybe Melbourne belly/baby buddies can meet up sometime, if we can free up our schedule of course :) such a busy time with new babies
Cant believe the advice people can give you. When W was 1 week old, someone (a nurse/midwive) told us this is the right time to start doing controlled crying/sleeping. Being a first time mum, I tried it that night and he cried and cried for hours… I still feel sad remembering that and thinking how stupid I was following that advice. After all, he’s just a newborn!
Thanks Renee, might look for it next time I go to the chemist. Btw, the pic is so lovely and you took it yourself, well done! I hear you on the memory thing, I’ve been taking lots of pics and videos and I don’t think my camera & computer can keep up with that LOL
Noni, sending you lots of hugs hun :hugs: Really hope she gets better. I know how you feel, I also cuddled W when he’s unsettled and friends and relatives will start talking about me spoiling him
-
Noni I hope things get better for you soon, poor Asha must be hard on her (and you of course). Try not to worry about what people say, IMO you cant spoil a newborn baby they cry cause they need something weather that be comfort, food or a clean bum. Dont ever feel guilty being a mum is a learning curve- you are doing a fantastic job, we all are.
Sherie you really are fantastic!
Gracie Logan went through a period where I couldnt put him down and I was getting nothing done. I think it is just a phase as now I can put him in his swing when he is tired and he will generally go to sleep. Its exhausting I know but it should get better soon.
Agnes we seem to have the exact same friends lol. Arent the smiles just the best. At first Logan would only do it for DH and I actually said to DH I feel like just a milk machine lol but now he smiles for me all the time.
Well I am all packed DH is home from his overnight trip and we are ready to go. We will leave in an hour or so. I am so excited I cant wait fo rmum and dad to see him and give him a cuddle.

thanks for the articles agnes. we have good friends who live in monbulk too! the tulip festival is beautiful. i didn't get a chance to go this year but my ILs came down from Sydney for a couple of days to meet lewis and they went along (they are dutchies) and loved it. it always brings a lot of people to the hills. we notice a lot more traffic. yes i think we should organise a melb meet up for bbs!
sherie- i ended up putting lewis in the hab for a couple of hours and got all the dishes washed and a load of washing done. made some phonecalls and threw out all the rotten flowers smelling out our house! saved all the blue balloons of course. the hab really is a life saver isn't it?
i actually bought one of those safe and secure co sleepers but i'm thinking of returning it. we used it for one night but i hated it and couldn't sleep. it felt like there was a wall between me and dp and i just couldn't get comfy. you can't really bfeed them when they're in it either so i found it more of a nuisance than anything. hope they let me return it and get some other stuff! we'll see i guess.
thanks for all your advice guys. hoping lewis stops being so clingy over the next few weeks- or even gets less clingy to me and more clingy to dp so i can get a break!
wish i could have a friday night glass of wine ggrrr
-
Hi ladies - i just lost my post!!! grrrrr
Gracie - pooh to your mil. is she usually interfering or has she onlyl just started? Hannah won't let me put her down today either - so she has been in the hab the whole day. (i must say it does feel nice having her so close though) It's exhausting though isn't it? I'm looking forward to dh coming home tonight- just so i can have a little break.
Agnes- lucky you getting smiles. Hannah doesn't give out too many yet. We've had a couple, but i'm desperate to get some more. Sorry you've developed mastitis :( hope it clears up really quickly for you.
Renee- that is great that Rory is self settling . I love the photo - have you got time to take more before you get them done next week?
MD - poor little Elisabeth :( I hope she's feeling better soon. Are you still doing Chinese Soup night?
Sherie - have you hit the wall yet? We've could have been on-line at the same time this morning lol.
I went to the ob yesterday - he did an internal and said everything was fine - he asked me to cough and said i've got good control over my bladder ( should have sneezed and then seen what his answer would be lol)
Hannah has been quite demanding these past couple of days. When she is hungry she screams and screams if i don't feed her straight away. i get really stressed when she screams. Dh is happy to let her cry for a little while ( like when we're having dinner) but i just cannot stand it.
hope everyone has a good night.
Sherie - should i send mbear a text message (she was my phone buddy) letting her know we're thinking about her, or is that inapppropriate?
-
Jaz, that's a great idea to send her a text, that way if she does't want to post, she can at least text you back kwim?
-
Ok Sherie - i'll do it now. (just don't want her to think i'm stalking her lol)
-
Hi everyone, I just want to second everything everyone said about you can't hold your baby "too much", you can't "over mother" them (tho tell your MIL there is more danger of MILs "overmothering" their sons LOL) and basically you do what you do to keep mum and bub as happy as possible. Like Sherie napping on the lounge - DO WHAT WORKS!!!! :D
Jazmum, great idea to text Mbear. Send our love. No chinese soup anymore, that's mostly something DD and I do when DH is away - when he's here we try to have a "family night" and play a game together (Cluedo's currently the hot favorite). DH is making a meditteranean lamb pizza (from the Take 5 maggie last week - lamb, kalamata olives, eggplant, semidried toms, garlic, feta - on turkish bread like a sub- YUM)!
Noni - I just wanted to say if you're not getting results from the things your Dr recommended after a good couple of weeks, go back and try the next thing.
OK saw dr today and Lil Missy Clever Elisabeth stole the show by SMILING at the dr when she said hello (!) They are still few and far between but I hang out for every smile I see no matter how fleeting they are! Anyway she did such a good job of looking contented and well fed that the dr sent us away with instructions to use Gaviscon. Which is just as hopeless a messy stupid thing to mix up as it was 9 years ago! Anyway the quantity seems all wrong as for E's size it mixes up to 30 mls ??? That's a lot to get into a baby! *Sigh* I'm kind of hoping it's not true reflux but rather irritation from weeks and weeks of ABs.
Gotta go, lil Miss Clever Smile At the Doctor is squawking! xxx to you all

Hello everyone
Jazmum - let us know what MBear says and pls tell her we are missing her! I hope she is OK and just caught up with her 3 beautiful girls and hasnt had time to post. A bit worried about her though to be honest...
MD - so glad that E's reflux doesnt seem to be too full on that the Dr had to do much - just the Gaviscon. Poor little thing! How gorgeous she gave the Dr a nice smile! Noah has started to smile quite a lot, esp at his Daddy when he plays with him in the mornings.
Cally - I think ti was you who mentioned fruit cake as a snack the other day?? wellnow I am addicted!
Noni - dont beat yourself up about the gripe water, I am sure you are doing a fab job.. and just keep trying things for the reflux til it gets sorted.
Gracie - poo to your MIL.. but in some ways i think that is their job - unsolicited advice LOL!!! I agree no such thing as over mothering esp at this age... I cant give N enough cuddles and attention and I am sure he will thrive from it. we all do what is best for us and the bubs!
Katie - how did the flight go? I am putting off going to melb to see the fam bc of the flight - so interested to see how Logan coped. Good idea to plan a feed around takeoff! If it works for immunisations it will surely work for a flight!
Renee - I love the pic, nice one!!! I know what you mean I take at least 10 pics of Noah a day. Digital cameras have really chgd things hey - when we were all born our parents would have had an album every 6 months or so.. btu now we take 100s and 100s of pics. These kids are so photographed!
Agnes how is the mastitis?
Better go, it is going to be v hot here today so I want to do my walk before it really heats up...
Have a great day!

Good Morning!
Jaz, have you heard anything back from Mbear yet? It's really not like her not to post.
Marydean, that's a huge amount to give her? how many times a day is she supposed to have that? You could be onto something with the abs too, even though you've been on them a while maybe they are only starting to upset her now. Either way I hope it doesn't get worse.
Noni, I second what Marydean said - go back if you aren't happy it's working. Only you know Asha well enough to know if it isn't working and always trust your instincts.
Pregpan, there was an article in the Sunday Telegraph last week about the 'death of the family album' because people rarely print out their digital pics and put them in an album now, they just use online albums or keep them on their HD/flash drives etc. I still print out all the ones I take and put them in albums - the kids love looking at them. it's supposed to be really hot here too - make sure you drink plenty of water on your walk too so it doesn't affect your milk.
DH said last night that the new car should finally be here by mid next week. There was a hold up in it getting ordered, hence the delay and I must admit I was getting a bit fed up with using the commodore - there really isn't much space in there with 4kids LOL. Plus we are starting to want to go away places too and we can't do that until we get the new car.
Did anyone get the big commemorative birth certificates? We finally got Alister's in the mail yesterday (both the standard and the commemorative)
-
Sherie, the 30mls is supposed to be after every feed - not exceeding six times a day - but I've decided to only give it when she seems to be refluxing and I'll start with the single dose 15ml and then add to it if she doesn't settle. I'm just *****ty because they have invented a medecine that is clearly designed for formula-fed babies (ease of giving it) and then haven't bothered to take it any further to make it easier for BFing mothers to give. I think she's only refluxing intermittently - esp at the end of the day around cluster-feed time - still hoping it will improve when I finish the ABs - last day today! She's had a nasty windy runny bottom for weeks - can't do anything about it, just have to persevere!
Pregpan - I'm right there with you on the fruitcake, I couldn't get enough for the first few weeks...lucky for my thighs the addiction seems to be easing off now! I can't believe how warm it's getting here - told DH he will have to get our aircon out of the shed - but I'm having fun dressing E up all her little summery outfits! :D
I hope everyone has got something nice planned for the weekend - a little outing or something. We're having a new-release DVD movie night tonight, might do popcorn and choc-tops as well!
Yep, we got the commemorative birth cert - it's much bigger here than the Victorian ones (typical Canberrans thinking large of themselves hahaha). DH has this idea of doing a framed photo montage & the birth cert - that would be nice...if he ever gets around to it!
-
morning everyone
I just got a message back from mbear - she is doing very well. They have had some computer problems over the past 2 weeks, and life is busy with 3 under 4. She said they are starting to get into a bit of a routine, so she is hoping to log back on soon. She sends hugs to everyone.
marydean - 30mls seems alot doesn't it! I hope E likes taking it for you.
Pregpan - you are so good going for a walk everyday. I wish i was motivated to do something.
Sherie- how exciting about the new car!! I think i'm going to get a whole heap of photos printed off too. I've got so many on my computer (and on backup disc!!) and you're right- the kids love sitting down looking at albums. It's going to cost a fortune though, so i might have to do little bits at a time.
Is it possible to have low supply in one breast? My left one always shoots out milk and the breast pad is quite wet if i start on the right side. The same doesn't happpen for the right breast. I'm thinking of doing some expressing just to see how much is coming out. (am going to have to find all my equipment)
Also, Hannah makes a clicking sound when she feeds - i know this is a sign of poor attachment, but my nipples aren't sore, and she still gets plenty of milk. I've tried everything to make it stop. Any suggestions?
-
Jaz, I am so relieved to hear that she is OK, just busy. When I was Bf the older kids, I always had more in the left then the right. I have more breast tissue in the left one apparently and it always got so much bigger than the right one when they were engorged. Does she feed more often from the left, hence it making more milk? I know I always fed from that side first because it was bigger, otherwise I would soak a cloth nappy with milk. With the clicking, do you think she could be letting go a little and losing some of the suction of the attachment? I know Alister does this on the bottle (which isn't the same I know) ,but I find that when he does it, it's when he's taking really long, deep sucks and makes the click when he swallows and loses a bit of attachement.
Marydean, that is a huge amount! I suppose they assume that reflux bubs are just put on AR formula and not continued to be BF in severe cases. Have you checked out some of the other threads about it to see how they do it?
-
sherie - i feed from both sides at each feed- so not sure why it would not be producing the same amount. Re the sucking - could be losing some attachment - i don't think she makes the sound when the milk is coming out fast. I'll have to check. Maybe i should try a different position or something. Maybe laying down.
