ha ha! definitely the psychic telephone in full swing! Leila is doing both english/italian. may sound impressive but really she only uses one or the other depending on what is easier IYKWIM. for example 'grazie' is easier than 'thank-you' so she generally uses the italian for that...

sherie: my mum also has thick hair and they do the same to her...always heaps of layers. she gets a bit cranky sometimes as she finds that if it is really short it has way too much body.
AFM: things here are completely mad. my Great Uncle Bills wife (nell) just passed away. she only made 2 weeks after him. i think she just gave up, there's no other explanation. they had been together since they were 17 (they were just turning 80). the family is completely reeling. my poor opa called and was just sobbing. can't wait to get there this weekend.
on a happier note, we did go to the Collingwood childrens farm yesterday and there were lots and lots of brand-spanking new BABY ANIMALS!!!!!! we got to belly scratch a family of piglets (their tails are so cute when they wag and their little snouts...mwah!), i befriended a little calf who followed me around demanding scratches (she ended up giving me loads of licks and nibbles in thanks), and little lambs with their gorgeous tails!!! we had a blast. leila just loves it all as they just get to run around in open paddocks in the middle of the city getting to pick at goat poo and stomp in muddy puddles. what better fun for an almost 2 year old? LOL!
Kate, I hope you two can sort it out. :comfort: Things aren't that great here either, I thought they were improving but the same old issues keep coming back every time.

Arrgggh. I am getting so annoyed with my neighbours animals! Not only does her pig come over and rip up our yard, her dogs come over and get into the rubbish bags, her cat-killing dog has been over here chasing my cat and now one of her dozen cats was just about to go into our sleepout - I really don't want dirty cat spray all over our stuff! Sorry, just a little vent lol
This sleeping business is getting ridiculus. He is nearly 2 FFS and still wakes 2-6 times a night. Now there are massive fights going on between DH and myself over what to do. Apparently I am ruining him for life by letting him control me at bedtime. I am not sure what to do next. After 9 weeks he is still only going to bed for DH half the time - the rest of the time he calls out for me to hold his hand. DH tried to resettle him last night which resulted in 1.5 hours of W crying for me. In the end I went in to take over so DH could get some sleep which was the crime of the century and I undermined everything that DH had achieved and I want W to be dependent on me at bedtime so I can keep all the control because I don't let DH have any say on how W is raised and I want to keep it that way!!! So a good night at our house.
So now I have decided that I can't get into bed with him at all because I think it is sending mixed messages if I won't cuddle him before bed at night (but do for day naps) and then will cuddle him during the night if he wakes. So I told him before his day nap that I am too big to fit in the bed and will sit on a chair next to him and hold his hand. He accepted that well and went to sleep so I will keep going with it. At least then he may get used to going to sleep with no one in bed with him. DH thinks it would be a good idea to shut him in his room and leave him to cry which I really don't want to do but if I disagree then he just uses it as another time when he doesn't get to have a say and we do everything my way. It is getting really frustrating.
Any suggestions welcome, I am running out of time before I am getting up to two kids a million times a night.
Arte I have no advice on the sleep situation but I hope someone else does. Sounds like you could use some hugs :hug:. I also meant to say don't feel bad for wanting another boy, I would like another little boy.
MD also meant to say a huge congrats on the 17 years.
While I am forgetting things lol I also forgot to say the ultrasound went well on the weekend. Bub was really uncooperative though and we couldn't get many good shots. S/he had its hands up to its face most of the time and kept putting its feet up there too. S/he also kept sucking on the cord which is really weird, I knew they played with it but to see it being put in bubs mouth was strange lol.............. actually seeing it moving and yawning was sort of strange.

Clare, I'm so sorry to hear about Auntie Nell - though it's sort of a happy ending (for them) if you believe in an afterlife...wild horses couldn't keep them apart. Sooo terrible hard for your Opa and Oma though. :hug:
Lovely bubby animals! I bet L was beside herself with delight! The baby goatsies is my favorite (soooo soft).

Arte, I think maybe you need to negotiate (in daylight hours) what your nighttime plan of action is going to be so that you and DH are both on the same page, consistency is really important when you're trying to make changes. Have you tried the system where you stay next to the bed (main rule - no touching except a quick pat) until he is asleep, then every couple of nights you move a little further away until you are in the doorway, out of the doorway, eventually you are down the hallway out of view having a cup of tea in the lounge room LOL. Apparently this is the system they recommend at this age because the kids are more developmentally aware of mum/dad not being there but being somewhere else. Starting with sitting on a chair holding hands is great. DH needs to know it'll take a few weeks of gradual changes but it will be worth it, kwim? :hug: BTW you will be pleased to hear I've just gotten my hands on the Firefly series. :) I reckon you should dob the pig lady in, it doesn't sound like she has the capacity to adequately care for all those roaming, out of control animals. That's very poor country etiquette.

arte- sorry to hear you are having dramas with dh, especially when you are pg too and v emotional.....so much for you to deal with.
you really need to get on top of these sleep issues before the newborn comes along or you will be a zombie. is w still having a day sleep? do you lay down and have the day sleep with him or does he do it alone?
i've been really lucky in that i haven't actively done anything and lewis now sleeps all night. jimmy's another story...but hey...
with lewis' day sleep- i basically put him in the bed with his teddy and a bottle of milk, i give him a kiss and say 'i'll come and check on you in a minute, you stay here and i'll just be sitting out here with jimmy. if you need me, come and get me'..then i walk out.
the first time he called out to me, but i just said 'i'll be back in a minute'...then i just leave him for a few minutes, then i'll pop my head back in, usually he is already asleep. if not, i just give him another kiss, say 'good boy, i'm just out here' or something along those lines.
a couple of times he has come back out, usually only if there is someone else here, but hardly ever.if so, then i just leave him be and start the whole process again in half an hour or so.
what happens if you do that sort of thing? does it turn into a fight?
Rainy you sound like you've got the whole settling thing down to a tee. TBH we're lagging a bit with introducing the big girl bed just because there'll be a whole new world of fun when Missy E isn't confined to the cot, kwim. Which other sept bubs are still in their cots?
MINE!!!! Leila is still in her cot only and exclusively because we would have a walker otherwise. she already "sleep-sits/stands" (remember AGES ago i found leila asleep standing in the cot...i assumed that she fell asleep that way but no, know with hindsight i reckon she got there after falling asleep). i was a really bad sleep-walker. i could open doors and everything. we moved house once cause mum caught me by the pool (i was 9 and could swim, but still...).
MD: i am totally with you. Nell and Bill were truly connected. they were inseparable on many levels IYKWIM. and yeah, i think that she just couldnt bear being here without him so decided to follow and join him on the next journey ITMS.
Arte: i'm lovin' rainy's tips! i reckon L and W are fairly similar beings in that they totally understand complex situations and the like, and i reckon Rs tips would suit Ws personality...
sorry clare, but i'm cracking up over you saying that L understands complex situations- do you mean Lewis or Leila? i really hope you mean Leila LOL or i've definitely been giving you guys the wrong impression of Lewis LMAO he's sitting next to me wearing a headband with a bow on it right now...
i forgot to tell you guys what happened on saturday. we were getting ready to go out to lunch for xmas in july. 11.30 rolls around, i take lewis into the change table, dress him up in some beautiful country road get-up, send him on his way to the living area, grab jimmy, pop him on the change table, dress him in some lovely oobi get-up, walk out to the living area and lewis is lying on the floor boards, right in the middle of the living room dead-asleep snoring at the top of his lungs! dh and i just cracked up.i can't believe my horror sleeper has now turned ino the kind of kid that falls asleep absolutely anywhere! dh and i just carried on getting ready, packed the car and then dh grabbed lewis at the last minute, put him in his car seat and he stayed asleep all the way to lunch. crack up!
Rainy, I usually lay down with him until he goes to sleep for day naps, except for todays experiment holding hands. If I try to leave the room he cries hysterically and comes running after me and it turns into a foot stomping tantrum. That is so funny that L can sleep anywhere now! I wish that would happen for us.

back on quickly while i have a few mins of peace and quiet. again i am so sorry i am such a bad buddy at the moment.
arte - sounds like you are really making progress with the sleep. W sounds just like N - and i think the strategy you are doing will work, it is similar to what we have been working on (and making some progress). I agree with MD you and DH need to discuss in daylight hours. we also argued over it all, not to the extent you did, but i found middle of the night discussions to be the worst!! i hoep you get it sorted soon, it will make things alot easier for you when the little one arrives (soon!!) if Dh can settle him. i also dont think it is so bad if you and dh have SLIGHTLY diff methods - not to the extent of one doing CC and the other not - but DH and I def do diff things (patting or not, lying at end of bed or not) t settle N and he seems to accept this. The other girls also have some great ideas, thought I would just send you my love and support as i know how hard this is and our boys sound quite similar in this regard. i know how hard it is when you are preg too.
MD - so sorry this round is treating you badly. i dont know what else to say other than that it sucks!

all is going well here - though poor N is sick with a cold (well i hope it is just a cold). yest went really well - we ended up with about 100 ppl! crazy business. but so lovely that so many people wanted to welcome our gorgeous Jacob to the world. he did well with the circ, though it was hard and he is still in some pain i think. i will be happy when the week is over. had gazillions of relos from both sides in town all weekend, whcih was lovely for N. now we hae to deal with the fact that they have all left!
J is doing so well. the nurse came today and he has put on 700g in 10 days. whoa!!!! he is a small bubba - 25th perentile for everything whcih is kida weird for me as N was always bigger and i am quite tall. but nurse said all ok esp as he was exactly in proportions. she said something about a small fontanelle - which i will get checked with paed at 6 wk check up too. he is starting to wake up a lot more, look around and i am so in love with him. i forgot how wonderful this newborn phase is.
better go, this is his cluster feeding time and he is yelping!

Missy E has been loving the wooden puzzles at the FDC lady's, so I've been bidding on ebay for a couple of cheapies...MD's top tip - don't waste your money on the ones that don't have little handles on them. She's also getting right into the Duplo right now - we have an extensive collection from DD1's days - but she loves it so much and plays with it in a much more purposeful way than DD1 did so I'll be adding to the collection anyway I think. She seems to have gotten over her FDC clinginess which is a relief.
