Thanks girls for the birthday wishes. We ended up going out for a lovely lunch even though Ellie was sick but she was a good girl for me thank god. She slept pretty well last night but still woke a few times with a blocked nose even though I have the vaporiser on in her room and chest rub etc etc. Hopefully she has an even better night again tonight.
Emmjayt I bet your husband thinks he's the ducks nuts now with Lily knowing who her daddy is. Sooo cute but Lily you have to do it for mummy too you little monkey
Becky, I'm so glad you had a lovely lunch for your birthday. I hope Ellie is better now.
DH and I have both had some bug - luckily he's been home the last couple of days and we can tag team Lily. She's stayed nice and healthy and full of smiles. Phew - I'm not ready to deal with her really sick yet. We've got her 4 month check up on Friday - will BR interesting to see how she is going.
Emmajayt - that's not goofy guys were unwell but convenient you could help each other out. Hope your all better now.
Becky - how's Ellie hope she's on the mend too.
Leckert - how's those tonsils and did you find out what the thyroid issue was?
Emily is on reflux meds three times a day and hates them! She won't open her mouth to anything anymore thinking its meds so even the bottle is a fight until she realizes. I think it's helping though. She still gets up once or twice a night, thankfully it doesn't last forever and they are all grown up before we know it. My DD1 Sarah will be 4 on Sept 1st gee whiz time goes fast.
Hope your all going ok!
Crowe - poor Emily with her reflux. Hopefully she will get used to her meds! How is she going with it now and sleep?
Emmjayt - how is Lily? I hope she didn't get sick and your all well now
Leckert - how you feeling? How is Wade?
Well Ellie is just getting better now and still has a little cough. She had been waking a couple of times a night since being sick at around 1:30am and 3:30am so hopefully when she is completely better she gets out of that routine, it's been hard as she was sleeping so well before. On a good note though she has been rolling properly from tummy to back and give herself a fright if she does it too fast very cute she gets her second lot of needles tomorrow definately not looking forward to that. Has anyone started their bubs on rice cereal yet? Can't remember at how many months I started Ava.

Feeling generally better here (although just had migraine probably stess related as payroll stuffed my pay up and couldn't manage to solve it from Thursday last week when I told them and rang again on Friday) still waiting to check thyroid stuff in a couple of weeks.
Wade's got a bit of a cough and gunky eyes and soooo wants to move but can't yet. Hasn't rolled much since he went front to back the other week.
Foodwise we'll be waiting til 6 months and we'll be doing baby led solids again (there's a thread about it in bb somewhere - too hard to link when on phone) so no rice cereal here
We started rice cereal on Friday. Lily loved loved loved it. I've tasted Farex so I'm struggling to understand why. My MCHN wants me to try her on a chicken broth with vegies in the next week "she's been getting flavour from your BM so don't give her single flavour boring things" I was hesitant until I saw her with the Farex, apple and mango - she's like a baby bird opening her mouth up ready for the spoon and yelling if I take too long to get more in
Emma, well done on still breastfeeding. It sounds like things are going very well. It is very exciting when our little ones start new things, isn't it? I remember hanging out to start solids with DS1 although I have to admit after all the mess I later wondered why I was so keen
I wonder, is your MCHN on the older side? She is quite right that Farex is not a good food to give babies but she doesn't seem to be aware of the medical research that says solids before 4 months can be very harmful. Some are quite old school and remember when the guidelines were 8 weeks, 12 weeks etc. Now the guideline says to give solids at around 6 months, but not before 4 months. Is there a reason why you've decided to start so early? There are a few reasons why the guidelines changed to 6 month - one is that many babies' digestive systems are not ready for solids until then and damage can be done by starting earlier, and another is that food replaces breastmilk which is still very much needed up to 6 months for growth and brain development (breast milk is the only "food" needed for the first 6 months and is the very best thing for growth and brain development as it's purpose made).
Farex tends to be the first food that many mums choose to use but unfortunately it has no nutritional value. If you google baby led solids or look up some threads on here, you'll find that it is becoming more common to give babies family foods from the beginning (eg meat and veggies). There are lots of benefits to this - one is that meat is the best source of iron and zinc for your baby (don't believe the added iron label on baby foods, your baby can't absorb the iron so it's going in one end and out the other) and iron and zinc are vital for brain development and iron is the first nutrient needed from a source other than breastmilk at some time in the second 6 months of the baby's life. So your MCHN is spot on in that sense, although I'm not so sure about a broth. At your little one's age though, she is too young for finger foods but by the time she is ready for solids she can have them.
If you would like some literature to show your MCHN about why solids under 4 months is not good, you can do some googling and let me know if you want some references.
ETA I just remember that the thread that is linked to in my sig is a pretty good starting point for making the decision about when to start solids.
Hi guys, I started Emily on veg and rice cereal this week as advised by my paed. She has silent reflux and stated it would help her with that. She is only having a couple of tablespoons but seems to like it.
Hi ladies, my name is kate I have a 3yo son Jett 17/4/09 and a 4mo son Brax born 18/4/12 I forgot to keep up with my belly buddies group on here but I see some of.you are in here now hoping everyone is doing well.
Hi Girls! Glad to hear our babies are loving some food. I started Ellie on some rice cereal today and she loved it.
Welcome jett's_mum! My 4 month old is Ellie and I also have a 3 year old Ava. How is everything going? How is Brax doing? Is Jett enjoying being a big brother?
Hi guys, I have now tried Emily on some banana and she loves it, she doesn't like it off the spoon but loves to suck on it then munch it up. She is getting a little constipated though so will get some prune juice today to add to boiled water cause she doesn't like water on its own. How are you all going? Beautiful 25 degrees here today, just loving this weather.
So cute Crowe that Emily chews on bananas I am going to try Ellie on something else next week! We had an absolutely gorgeous day here in Brisbane aswell. Absolutely loved it, I took the girls to the park and had a lovely picnic, sooo nice to get out sometimes especially since the weather has been so cold and windy lately.

Hi guys, hope your all well. I'm glad to say that Sarah DD1 has finally settled down since Emily DD2 arriving (only took 5 months). Em is going ok with the food, still only having a couple of tablespoons a day. I have sorted out her eczema I think with some prescription cream and Moo Goo which is awesome. We have had a scare last fortnight with Em having a raised fontanelle, Hosp had no idea and did an ultrasound. They were talking hydrocephalus (fluid on the brain) and meningitis but because she was not unwell and u/s was ok they sent us home. We had a nervous wait to see paed three days later. Paed called it a fullness and stated it was still in the normal range (phew), he is going to monitor it though.
Other than this we have been keeping busy. Take care all
Hi everyone! It's been very quite on here lately, I think you all must be as busy as I am. Ellie is doing well. She is loving her rice cereal and going to try her on pumpkin tonight. She has been rolling from tummy to back for a while but has finally mastered back to tummy yay! Just curious, what is your bubs daily sleep routine? I have had a cat napper during the day but she has started having a 2 hour sleep in the morning at around 9am but then cat naps for the rest of the day. I do try and put her down after lunch as she seems very tired but will wake after 15mins and then again around 4ish. Also how are you putting them down to sleep? Awake or asleep from feeding or rocking etc? She is still sleeping ok during the night goes down at 8ish and sleeps til about 6am and sometimes may wake once during night. Hope your all well!
OMG Crowe that would have been very scary for you all but so glad that everything is ok. Happy that Sarah has settled down for you! Ava is getting better aswell but seems to be naughtier than normal whether it is still a bit of jealousy or just her age.........or just being her lol.
