I am seriously so close sometimes to giving her a bottle sometimes and them she will settle well and have a good sleep for two days. Then back to being demanding.
She hasn't slept longer then 40min all day. Belly rumbles which I wonder are from sheer amounts of fore milk.
ATM I am laying down feeding her in hope she will drop off to sleep and I can leave her there find get stuff done. It's what I have taken to doing at the 5am feeds as Dh gets up then so just the two of us on bed.
Well last night after a few hrs of fussing and me exhausted, we gave her 120ml of formula.. hated doing it but she just would not settle. She drank it well and finally went to sleep. Only slept for the usual 3-4hr period so I know formula is def not the key for longer sleeps. It was more so I was frustrated, my back was killing me and I just needed a break from her. So while she had her bottle I expressed so my body still knew that I needed that milk at that time. I was able to express 80ml so I know my supply is fine because she would have been easily able to take more then I can express.
And then at her next feed she went on the breast and settled well and sent down again for another 4hrs so I think the bottle got her out of the top up/snacking 2hrly she was doing and I dont plan on giving her another one now we are good.
also though its nice to know she will take the bottle as I have a night out planned in 10 weeks and she will need to then.
Beatrix - I think it's important to take care of yourself so you can be there for your baby. I don't think there's anything wrong with a bottle here or there if it saves your sanity. I've expressed a few times and Logan has happily changed between bottle and breast. It has given me a break.

We actually managed to go out for dinner last night. The older girls were at their dads and Zoe slept the whole time.
Is anyone else's baby not a very happy awake baby. I get about 10min of happy non freed time at the most. Will not last any longer then 5-10 min in bouncer or swing.
Yep another here with not much happy awake time. I'm yet to get my swing back from my sister so don't know how she'll go in there (but I'm not confident for a miracle) We get about 3 minutes in the bouncer maybe 5 on the floor. Even being held she gets cranky quickly.
I'm trying really hard to work her out but I'm finding her tricky. DS3 was hard work too didn't sleep fed constantly wouldn't be put down, but if you held him, wore him or put a boob in his mouth he was happy. Georgia is not so easy to appease I hope I can work her out soon, we're getting there slowly I think.

I need to buy some bottles and find my pump I need a bit more sleep I'm hoping I can express enough for a few feeds and hope she'll take a bottle. She flat refuses a dummy I have 5 different ones and still no luck.
Beatrix - Going out to dinner. I'm envious. Our BD1 goes to bed at 6pm and would turn the restaurant upside down if we attempted. I'd love to go out to dinner. We are doing the next best thing tonight - ordering take-out Thai and watching footy on tv. Perfect night in. Kids need to be asleep on time... Fingers crossed.
Logan seems pretty content when awake. He is much more alert now. Looking around and moving his head more. He loves being held. If someone is holding him he will be happy every time. Sometimes he's fussy and only wants me to hold him though which doesn't give me a break.
Willow- sounds like Georgia and Zoe are extremely similar. Even when held Zoe fusses. Drives me mental.
Not to mention the fact my sister (her dd is 2 weeks older) she says well you get easy labour so harder baby. While her baby is happy as and sleeps through the night. (She does bottle feed though)
DB- yeah it was just me, DH and Zoe last night. I rarely take the older 3 out. They are well behaved but the cost lol. I have just found a local pub with playground which does kid eat free on Mondays so we are going to attempt there.
I formula fed DS1 from about 4-6 weeks (can't remember exactly it was long ago lol) He was still a crap sleeper and fussy. I was told all would be fixed if I put him on the bottle. It was not. I remind myself of that often when I start to think how much easier it might be and how much more sleep I might get, because I *might* not too! It's soooooo tempting though!
I've had a thought though, after re reading your post about the pram and the park. Georgia hasn't been in the pram yet. DS3 had a bit of a 'that's my pram' moment so we let him go in it and I've been using the ergo for Georgia. So I don't know if she'll like it or not, DS hated it until he was about 2 1/2! I'm going to bring it in make it comfy and see if she'll sleep in it inside, maybe rocking it will re settle her too. It worked sometimes for DS1 so worth a try I think. DS3 said yesterday when he saw it in the boot that Georgia could have the pram now because he's too big and doesn't need it :( So hopefully he feels the same today :)
Willow- hoped the pram works for you.
I'm going diary free to see if that helps. Apparently will take a week to know.
We had a horrible day today but not Zoe wise. We got news DH brother was passed away. So very big shock. Hasn't been a good past 4 weeks losing my grandad and now BIL. My hearts breaking for DH and his mum and sister. It's all so surreal.
Beatrix - Sorry to read your sad news. Sometimes the reality of someone passing away doesn't come until a lot later. With my Mum it took over a year and then it finally sunk in and I fell to pieces. Take care and I hope your DH is ok under the circumstances.

Yeah it's all pretty surreal. Yesterday was also my grandmas birthday and my aunt brought around a present that grandad had brought and put away before he died. My whole extended family now on both sides are hurting so much and it's just not fair. DH mum is a amazing beautiful lady and I hate seeing her like this. Plus my SIL too. And my mum and grandma hurting so much.
BIL was only 37 but unfort didn't take care of himself very well (he was morbidly obese) and I hope that the one thing that does come out of his death is family look at their lifestyles and see how they can change it for the better. Either way he was too young to die.
Beatrix, so sorry to hear about your BIL. It's super tough when one death closely follows another - I know because I've been there. Be very kind and gentle to yourself xo
Willow and Beatrix, Owen has become a lot like Georgia and Zoe, crying a lot, not sleeping during day unless walked while vertical in sling for a long long time... I'm trialling going off dairy as well Beatrix. It's one of DS1's food allergies, and Owen has many of the same symptoms :-(
To test for cows milk protein intolerance properly, it's meant to be 2 weeks completely free of all dairy products, then a rechallenge for up to another 2 weeks (used to only take 2 days to see symptoms with DS1, but they're all different). Often it takes 10-14 days off dairy before all the cows milk protein is out of your system and the baby's and their reaction symptoms have subsided. Given that DS1 has such a long list of protein intolerances, plus fructose malaborption, I might even end up doing a full elimination diet, followed by challenging with one food at a time, to work it all out. Seems a bit drastic, but I just want my baby not to be in pain again. I'll speak to a dietician and see what they think. Owen has fed every 2 hrs since midnight, but now he's down, so I'm gonna try and sneak in a shower. Thinking of you all, hope you have easier days with your bubs today.
Beatrix I'm so sorry that's terrible :( 37 is too young. You guys are having a crap time I hope that's it for a while now :hug:
Well the pram didn't work, but I will keep trying. It needs it's wheels oiled as soon as you move it backwards or turn it it has the loudest squeak there's no way she was going to sleep through that!
I'm not sure that dairy is an issue for us. I am very slack on dairy, I have milk in my tea and maybe some cereal a couple of times a week, I don't really eat yoghurt and have had cheese about twice since Georgia was born (not sure why because I love cheese) Maybe that's enough to be a problem though I really don't know? DS3 had food intolerances but it was all about additives so that's what has been on my mind with Georgia too. She does get overtired and overstimulated so I may have to go additive free again to work out if it's maybe a number or several that are getting to her. Some evenings I think she has pain but not all so I'm not sure :dunnno:
I was very slack on my water too and when I'm dehydrated she is more unsettled, I think she likes her milk fast and it slows it up if I'm not hydrated enough.

As for Zoe went to start the diary free but yesterday she had a awesome day. When she was awake was all smiles and pretty happy, still didn't like to be put down but wasn't frustrated and ****ty.
Last night she slept 9-2:30 then 3-7!!! Was really good.
So I'm not sold on the dairy thing as I hadn't even started anything. Not sure if I want to try it yet.
Willow- DD1 was exactly how you describe!!... Now she's a feisty, spunky 5.5 year old!!:rolleyes: I think how they are as babies says a lot about their personality!!... Doesn't help you now though, I know!.... I think if you can get her to sleep longer she may not ask for boob so regularly.... It's hard with a 3yr old that doesn't really get the "quiet" thing.... DD1 doesn't really get it either!! :shakehead: I hope things improve for you! xx
Eleni refuses a dummy also.. I have tried all the different shapes.. and sometimes she gags on it and bring up milk..and a lot of it!! :(

Would it help if you express some of the fore-milk before a feed? AND there is nothing wrong with giving her formula every now and then for your sanity!!!.. I used to with DD1! I also have 2 x UHT NAN in the cupboard if things go pair shaped here and my boobs can't take it anymore!
OK..... at the moment all good here....I don't want to seem like i'm gloating or rubbing it in so I'm not posting so often :redface: BUT I am reading all your posts!
Eleni is feeding 3-4hr during the day... she will feed a lot in the evening and some nights pretty much drain me!! I'm lucky she sleeps well, and is content and happy when awake!, although she does get hungry sooner if she hasn't had a nap!... The only time she grizzles is when she's hungry to gassy!... She's still bringing up a lot of milk with her burps and will need at least 3-4 burps each feed, so she's sucking in a lot of air somehow!!.... Yesterday she brought up milk that reminded me of the Exorcist!!!:o She's not distressed though, which is a good thing!
The other night she slept right through from about 10:30pm-8am!! She grizzled at 1:30am but when i touched her cheek she stopped and went back to sleep, then at 4am, I thought she would be hungry, but no...she had done a poo.. so I changed her and offered her a feed as I was about to burst!!..she sucked a little which relieved the pressure so I was happy....all the while still asleep!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At 8am I woke her to give her a good feed because I felt like I was about to explode!!
Last night though she was back to normal.... 10am-2am-5:30am....topped her up at 7:30am so I could take her on school run and she's still asleep!
The last two nights she has been all snorty and finding it hard to breath through her nose... have gone through half a bottle of Fess! But it doesn't come out it's dry and not where I can see it!!....so she gets a bit cranky!!
I have my 6 week OB check tomorrow and I also need to organise needles this week for Eleni!.....
I can imagine if it was an unexpected passing things would be mess. I hope it all settles down soon xx
Glad Zoe had a good day and night! I would have thought if it were dairy it would be constant/consistent crankiness, wouldn't it? Not that I'm sure of that but it would make sense, unless the days you have more dairy make her more cranky? It's all so vague. I did read a couple of articles on fussy babies and 'arsenic hour' yesterday and really most of the time the cause is unknown and it passes after about 3-4 months (HOPEFULLY!!!) It was interesting though that babies in places like Mali and a few others looked at don't suffer from the fussy times in the evening/night. Their babies are rarely put down, feed several times an hour etc So very different to how we live here. Maybe babies just aren't designed to fit into our modern lifestyles. Not that we have a choice though.
I hope the good days continue for you guys :crossfingers: Georgia had a good day but it fell to pieces last night around 9 when the screaming started and went on until just after 10.30. It's weird though with her, a couple of times she'd stop crying for a minute, then she'd be looking at me smiling a minute or two later she'd be crying again :wtf: But at least I know she still loves me and doesn't think I'm completely hopeless not being able to make her happy during those times.
Willow- sounds similar to what Eleni does when she has gas or needs a burp!..... Once she's got it out she's OK usually..Does Georgia have trouble getting wind out...either way?

Harri- She gorgeous!!! And yep a few bottles of formula isnt going to hurt her. I have a massive supply for some reason atm and have managed in the lat 24hrs to express 200ml as well as feed her! so now we have frozen supply so wont need the formula!
Willow- im thinking that zoe is just a fussy baby, slightly high maintenance who loves her cuddles. Things will get easier! Se is currently sleeping on my in the manduca as she has been incredibly unsettled this morning and only kipping for 20min at a time. So over tired now.
DH is currently at his brother house trying to help his family sort and find the needed paper work :(

Georgia burps quite easily now and gets the other end going quite often too :p Some days I can tell she's got trapped wind but others she just seems fussy. The smiley breaks in crying aren't after a burp or fart she just goes quiet for a bit smiles then continues on crying. When she finally stops she either goes to sleep or has a decent feed then sleeps. She doesn't get any wind out first, so it's not always wind pain.
My easiest baby was DS2. He Pretty much ate then slept 3 hours through the day and four at night. By one month he slept through the night. He was never cranky, slept anywhere never needed help to go off to sleep. He was an easy toddler, an adventurer but easy no terrible 2s or any of that stuff. Got to the teens and that's where the wheels fell off lol Has been full on and sometimes nightmarish ever since! DS1 was a fussy baby and crap sleeper but has been what everyone calls a dream child. Never in trouble at school, not the slightest bit feral through high school, just cruised through did well through high school & college. So I'm taking consolation in the fact that so far for me easy baby = nightmare teenage years, and fussy hard work baby = dream child/teen :p Here's hoping anyway!
Beatrix I'm thinking the same about Georgia, DS3 was the same so why not throw me another one straight after. I did hope I might have another easy baby for my last one(even though that could negatively effect my theory :p ), you never know she may not be high maintenance as long as DS3 was, well he still is actually :p
I went looking for my breast pump yesterday and can't find it anywhere, I'm thinking I may have given it away, as I wasn't having any more babies after DS3, then, surprise, yes I was. So I haven't even attempted expressing yet.
I hope DH can get it all sorted quickly so you can all get on with grieving and healing.
We had a successful short trip out today after a fussy morning. I had to go into Medicare to lodge all my forms for Georgia, slack I know taking this long. But she was really good, didn't cry in the car slept instead. I put her in the Ergo when we got there and she stayed awake for a bit, then when she started to get whingy I was sure she would crack it completely while we were waiting and that I'd have to yell over her crying at the person at the counter. But she went off to sleep again with some jiggling, the wait was the shortest I've ever had in there too. She whinged a bit on the way home then slept again. So I was happy with how that went :)

The food intolerances thing is very difficult to work out, and definitely it's normal for babies to be unsettled without food being the cause. I agree with everything you've said. I only want to test for that possibility for Owen because of how much mucous and reflux he has now (he can't sleep lying down anymore, so is in a sling on me most of the day), and also because DS1 has multiple protein intolerances, which indicates an increased risk that Owen might have that too. I don't know for sure yet if Owen does or doesn't react to any foods, but eliminating them and then rechallenging is the only way for me to find out. You've given me hope for slightly easier teenage years though, fingers crossed.
We're also trialling a low salicylate diet for DS1 starting today, as he has a number of behavioural issues and cannot stop wetting himself during days (he's 4yrs 4 mths, meant to be starting school next year). I only just read on the weekend that salicylate reactions can be linked to this issue, and I've always suspected that he was still reacting to something in his diet, but I didn't know what. Again, just a 2-week trial to see if it makes any difference, I have no idea if it will or not.

omg im so over daytime Zoe... she is demanding and just constantly cries or screams. She is fine over night so it cant be intolerance's or reflux or it would be constant.
Made app with a chiro who has rave reviews about treating babies... god i need this baby to just stop. My back can not take mac more rocking, bouncing and carrying her around.
Happymum It makes perfect sense for you to be eliminating and challenging things with the history and symptoms! Poor little guy I hope he's more comfortable soon :crossfingers: I'm glad you're coping well too :) Salicylates can be nasty . We didn't seem to have trouble with them, luckily, ours was more additives like flavours and colours in the end. I eliminated all additives for a month and saw improvement after about 3 weeks. It was sleep and behaviour/concentration for DS. He was still waking every 2 hours at night(on a good night) when he was nearly 2 he slept through the night after 3 weeks of no additives :hooray: it was like Christmas and it was lol it was Christmas eve :D After the month we introduced some again but not those related to sleep and behaviour then the others and worked out which were an immediate reaction or build up. I ccraved some Red Rock Deli chips one day after we'd been additive free for a couple of months and thought it wouldn't hurt if I just had some thinking not that much would get through my milk, I had the chips 3 days in a row with lunch at work and regretted it on day 4, he was feral! lol so it definitely gets through haha. I hope you can get it worked out soon too :goodluck:
Beatrix I'm with you! Georgia seems good at night she still wakes every 2 hours to feed but just eats then settles straight away. Through the day though no such luck :wall: Like you this is why I am not sure food is it with her either. DS was unsettled day and night it was consistent, Georgia isn't. I think it might be just her. But time will tell I guess. We do seem to be having some luck with the pram though if you do manage to put her down she will sleep longer in there than in her bed and if she stirs you can sometimes get her off again by jiggling the pram. So small win I guess.
We also have a great chiro he fixed our BF issues with DS so I really should get Georgia started too I feel bad not having her adjusted after birth anyway and I could do with a treatment or 5 myself :p I love chiro!

shocker of a night last night, so bad I kept the kids home from school as I had no energy to get dressed to take them and they were kept awake half the night too. Didn't want their teachers to deal with feral tired children either.
So not sure if chiro had effect. Second app is sat, was told it could take 3-4.
But I am headed to dr tomorrow to discuss possibly of silent reflux because when she cries she is rigid, arching back and spits up curtled milk, orefera to be upright plus the rumble belly apparently can be a sign. And well when I had reflux I didn't have it all the time so maybe she doesn't either.
It just hard. I don't want to resort to meds but if she's in pain.
Things are even tougher too due to the emotional strain in the house. DH been spending a lot of time with his mum and sis when he's not at work which is understandable but very hard on me with the 4 kids and he is away for two nights this weekend on his annual boys weekend which has been planned for months and happens this time every year
That's a good point Beatrix about the reflux I assumed it would be all the time but maybe not I didn't have it all the time either :dunno: Georgia is also rigid and arches her back sometimes but I think they just do when they're so worked up and upset too argh it's so hard to work out. I don't like the idea o meds either but like you siad if she's in pain you want her to eel better. You also need some respite for yourself, sleep is very important especially when you're trying to look after the other kids and deal with everything you've had happen too :hug: Let us know how you got at the doctor. If it is reflux and you need the meds work with your chiro too, they can help with reflux and you can sometimes cut down meds or wean off completely :goodluck:
After our shocker yesterday and the night before we had a much better night last night and today has been better so far too. I think I even got 3 hours sleep in a row last night! Then another two after and funny but I felt even worse, more tired than usual this morning :o Oh well I guess my body just wanted more.
Willow- Dr was fun NOT!! he made me feel like a idiot, saying it maybe was all me and have I tried calling the parent helpline as I don't seem to be coping. Went through the whole well prop up the cot, try burping her more blah blah and said well they only do meds as last resort. I looked at him and said I have tried everything YOU are my last resort and was almost in tears. Never before have a felt like a dr was looking down on me so much. He did reluctantly end up giving me a script for losec as her symptoms do sound like silent reflux but yeah after the shaming I had to go through to get it, I came away feeling like a failure.
I def am still going to keep up the chiro because I dont want her to be on meds all the time but I am at serious breaking point.
We did have a better night last night though she went down at 7 ish woke 12,4 and 6 and today has been the usual carry on LOL hoping we have good nights as DH is away tonight and tomorrow night.
What a p**** of a doctor!! :o Sorry you had to go through that :hug: Does the Losec work right away from the first dose?
It can take up to 7 days for full affect...
but should see daily improvement.

I hope it works, Beatrix. I'm exhausted just reading your posts on lack of sleep. Makes me feel guilty for whinging about being tired.
Does anyone have any advice about newborn pimples on the face? BD1 had it and sorbolene cream several times a day fixed it virtually overnight. Logan's isn't improving with Sorbolene. It's only been 24hrs but it still looks really bad and is rough and dry. I'll keep persevering. Does anyone have any advice?
DB I put Apricot oil in Georgia's bath and that helps clear them and keep her skin from drying out. You can get it in most health food shops about $9 a bottle and you only need a little each bath. It's not smelly and it doesn't leave them greasy either just beautiful and soft :) Has lots of other uses too.
Beatrix I hope you had a better night. Ours was crap again and today's not much better. I think the good nights/days for us are the exception to the norm. They were with DS3 too. I am just so tired I wish I was one of those people that cope with 2 hours broken sleep a night better but I'm a cranky b**** :( Right now she is feeding and still fighting, she drifts off for 30 seconds ten BAM! Eyes fly open again *sigh* She has had two sleeps today one 20 minutes and the other maybe 10 I wouldn't mind so much if we got a 3 or 4 hour stretch at night but that doesn't happen either. I feel like I'm always complaining sorry I'll try to be more positive with my next post. I do love her heaps!!!!!! I'm just tired :asleep:
Willow - Are you saying 30mins total during the day? If so, I am exhausted for you.
With Logan, he's a pretty good sleeper. He's 5.5 weeks now so maybe a growth spurt because he's feeding every two hours exactly and he's fussing around a bit. Also, I'm pretty sure he's not draining either side. I've tried expressing but I loathe my Avent manual pump. I haven't had a chance to buy the Medela Swing but I have high hopes when I do. I'm back at work in July.
Well we had a ok night. She feed at 8 went to sleep at 9:30, woke at 12, woke at 4:30 then woke up and ready for her day at 6 all happy. She settled well during the night as well.
Today's been pretty good too. She has let me put her down at times and had 3 he sleep plus two other 1-2hr sleeps.
Had second chiro app this morning so will see how tonight goes.
Willow- Hun maybe Georgia has reflux too? It's really not meant to be as hard as it seems for you.
DB- wow work! That's got to suck

Willow - Thanks for the advice about the apricot oil. I've never heard of it but I'm definitely going to try it. My poor little boy. His face is covered in hormone pimples. I've been googling and it seems quite common. I'm tired of people commenting about them.
So yesterday we had one crying arching for which lasted about 5-10min!
Last night was a bit unsettled. But she did start the night in her bed so I got 2hrs on my own! Lol bonus. Then she woke every 2hrs but had one boob an went back to sleep. She wasn't quite in the deep sleep though, very restless for her.
But still improvements. I'm wondering if just her adjusting to be adjusted and its getting better?

We had an hour and a half of screaming then she slept or 3 hours woke fed back to sleep again so I went to bed too then it was around midnight. She woke once, not sure what time I didn't check, but she fed went back down straight after and slept until 7am. Two wakings between 12am and 7 am is huge for us!! I'm not getting my hopes up that it will last but it would be so nice if it did. We haven't really had the screaming for a few days just unsettled whingy and fighting sleep. So I really don't know what's going on. We have he 6 week check tomorrow so we'll see how that goes.
This may have been the reason for lasts night unsettledness

Well something is working, not sure if its the chiro, losec or dairy free (mainly dairy free, it's hard to go completely) but we got a 5 1/2 hr stretch last night followed by a 4hr!!! Plus she seems so much more settled. Still has her crying moments but fewer then before.
