Well, I'm back at work! DH is coping extremely well. Darling gumnut has 2 teeth through and a cold (possible chest infection) to boot so poor DH has struck a bad time to go solo but boy- I'm soo proud, he is doing well.
Gumnut bounces between miserable screaming banchi (Sp) to sweet adorable little girl LOL....spiking temps every now and then, refusing to sleep and wanting constant attention. DH has managed soo well! Thankfully she is still sleeping beautifully at night. We moved her bed time to 730 last week and she is still sleepin through to about 8am...
Gosh it feels good to be back at work- I really missed nursing so being back to the hussle and bussle has been a welcome change. At the same time I think of gumnut every half hour or so and I feel my heart break alittle as I long for a cuddle....a real mixture of emotions. On the up side I get to carry around my handbag once again and not a baby bag! I sooooo love my handbags...LOL
So lovely ladies- what is happening in your world. I can't remember who was saying it in the last thread bit one of the bubs was rolling around on the bed...its amazing how quick they pickup new tricks.
Well- time for DH and I to have a cuddle before I troop off to bed- early mornings and late nights suck!

Delph - Hope Gumnut gets better super quick. Thats awesome you like being back at work. I think its only natural to miss Gumnut. Hopefuly over time the hurt will lessen. You'll always miss her when you're away from her though. Lol at the handbag thing i don't even own one anymore don't have a nappy bag at the moment either though so am using a black reusable bag from woolies feel like such a wierdo will have to buy a new one i think haha
AFU both my girls are crook as at the moment its horrible! This is Shay's first ever cold/flu thing and she is just MISERABLE its sad cos she's usually such a happy relaxed baby but now she's just constantly crying, hardly sleeping she gets frustrated and pulls her own hair over the last 2days i've had all of 5 hours sleep so am pretty much running on autopilot lol On the up side Shay's almost worked out how to get into crawling position! So cute Lyla calls Shay "my princess" "weetie" (sweetie) "weet art" (sweetheart) but sometimes it sounds like retard which gets a few nasty looks when we're out and about "booful" (beautiful) and "perfect" its soooo cute love watching them interact makes me have a lil cry sometimes cos i'm a big sook.

Jessey - I hope both your girls are feeling better now. Poor little Shay. I know how miserable B was when he was sick. It's so hard because they just don't understand and there is no way you can explain it to them. I also hope you've been able to get a bit more sleep since your post
So cute about Lyla and Shay. It must make you so proud that you have two adorable little girls that love each other so much. Sounds like L is over her tantrums as well, which must be making things MUCH easier for you.
How's your new place going? And your puppy...or maybe not so puppy any more
Delph - Poor Gumnut with her chest infection. How's it going. Did the doctor give you anything to give her/do to her? Does she have a runny nose as well? I know my Dr told me to squirt half a ml of saline solution down both B's nostrils. He HATED it, but it helped heaps with his runny nose.
Sounds like work is going well. must be hard to miss gumnut so much though. I just realised last night that I am back at work in 2 1/2 weeks I am both looking forward to it...but also dreading being away from B. At least Gumnut is with your DH and he seems to be coping pretty well with it.

AFU - B got up in the 'proper' crawl position for the first time last night (not sure if there is a name for it or not) but he was up on his hands and knees and he had his whole body off the ground (usually he has his belly resting on it) He stayed like that for about 10 or so seconds then he tried to crawl, but pushed off with both his arms and his legs at the same time and only succeeded in faceplanting himself into the ground. He looked very indignant about itall.
The solids feeding is going really well. He LOVES his food and usually devours about 2 Tablespoons for lunch and dinner and one for breakfast AFTER having both breasts! So far he's had avocado, pumpkin, sweet potato, carrot, apple and mango. I tried the avocado a bit different the other day as he didn't like it the first time and he just devoured it, since he's eating that now to date there's not been anything he's not loved. I am going to be trying him on peas today.
Christmas - What are you all doing/going?
DH is such a sweetie. I've been sayign how I want a real tree for B's first Christmas, but haven't been able to find one. Well I don't know how he found it or where he got it...or where he hid it for that matter, but when I got up this morning there was a big tree in our dining room!! When I say bit I mean big. We have 12ft ceilings and it touches the ceiling and he said we'd go out and get decorations for it this afternoon as he's organised to be able to knock off work early!! He also said we'll go to the nurseries and buy a little christmas tree to keep in a pot year round so it can grow with B!
The downside to Christmas is we have to spend Christmas lunch with MIL and SIL AGAIN this year. I can understand why DH told them we would, because they'd nag and harass him if he said no for the next 5-6 months and generally just make his life a living #ell, but it still doesn't make me like it any better. I am hoping that she doesn't tell me I have to cook again this year with only 1 day notice We'll be having dinner with FIL. Him I like! He's fantastic (I definitely know with FIL and MIL divorced...what I can't figure out is how he managed to live/put up with her for nearly 15 years) and B adores his Poppy. As soon as he sees him he just lights up and grins ear to ear. Poppy gets down on the floor with him and rolls around and makes silly faces and sounds and plays airplane and just generally makes B really happy. Grandma (MIL) on the other hand. B doesn't like her at all. Within 2 minutes of her holding him he'll be a crying mess. Guess he's a good judge of character!

Hope everyone is just making merry and travelling here and there or getting ready for travellers from here or there, that is keeping everyone away.
I know we're getting crazy weather up here, massive cracking thunderstorms (I think the prison across the road got hit twice last night and once the night before yes we live across the road from the prison! Statistically it's apparently one of the safest crime free areas to live....go figure) and crazy super winds and I've heard about hail and other weird and crazy weather in other places, so hopefully you are all safe and not being too bothered by it all.
B is NEARLY crawling....I think. He can get up on his hands and knees now and balance there for quite some time, and he's gone from launching himself forward face first into the ground to creeping backwards...I think it's only a matter of time now before he puts it all together!
lol Dr tal I was thinking myself it has been very quiet in here, a busy time of year I would think. I cant believe I have actually finished my xmas shopping this year, although we are only doing a kris kringle and just buying for the kids.
I know what you mean about crazy weather, its like that all over the world at the moment it seems. We saved mums house for the 8th time this year from floods and we have had enough and will be suing the council next year, its a long story. I am a huge weather nerd so I am loving all the crazy weather and I LOVE storms.
E gets weighed tomorrow and he seems huge to me so I am sure he has put on some big numbers will let you know. I started him on solids at 5 months, he has had pumpkin, rice cereal and apple and tasted a few other things, I have some avocado and swede for him to try and some potato tonight, he loves to eat. He can roll from his belly to back and tries so hard to roll from his back to belly but I think he is too fat lol, or lazy one of those. When he is on his belly he gets his knees up underneath himself and tries to get up onto his hands in the crawling position. His hair is falling out too, it looks so silly, he is nearly bald except for some long stuff on top, he looks like bert newton hahahaha.
I went to the Dr last week and had a health check, turns out my iron is low, its half of what it should be, so on iron tablets for 6 weeks then it will be tested again.
I looked after a friends little boy last week, for a few hours, he is nearly 18 months, made me realise, I didnt want 3 kids under 3 lol, anyway my friend called me yesterday to tell me he has chickenpox, so now I am worried about E getting chicken pox and I also had to let another family friend know because she was holding E on saturday and she is 7 months pregnant.
I hope everyone is well and just in case I dont get back in here to say it I will say it now, I hope you all have an amazing safe, happy healthy xmas and new year.

Sal- thumbs up to E on his rolling effort! clever boy! and eating swede!!! that is amazing!! Not even I would touch swede...LOL.. E doesn't et chicken pox- but then again- better now than when he is older as I can be more difficult to manage (apparently).
HELLLOOO Dr T- I laughed at your post- I could actually 'hear' the echo. A 'nearly crawling' Mr B- big boy hey. I can imagine how the 'nearly crawling' goes- a friend of mines bub nearly crawls and its a crack up.
Am abit tired so I will keep it short- plus its cuddle time with DH
Well being back at work is going good. DH gets up in the morning and makes me lunch and gets my breakky ready (arn't I spoilt!!!). I always go in to give gumnut a kiss before I go. I stand and look at her abit- wish I could take her to work with me
Then at work I can on my break and see how she is going. DH has brought her into work acouple of time when the ward is alittle slow.
I race home after work to give her a bottle and her solids. She is on pumpkin, sweet potato and carrot. She is a cute little eater. (and she has 2 teeth!!)
I cuddle and kiss her and hold her and well just love her...lol...she plays with my hair and the pops off to sleep for an hour! LOL...I must be boring (DH says the 'mama hug' ets her to sleep)
Anyways- Hope you are all well. I will be in to post more on my day off. Gunna go and squeeze my hubby now before bed time....ho hum!
Wanted to post quickly and say - I love you all too much NOT to say anything - please don't turn your car seats around yet!! There is research to show babies should not be turned until they have full control over their entire body, not just head - so that means walking.
I kept DD rear-facing until about 13mths. The risk of spinal injuries is just too great!
Please do some research of your own before you turn them. It's your decision of course but google and do a search on here and you'll see what turns up. there's a YouTube video that I might see if I can find and share...
Sorry if that comes across the wrong way... It just scares me, our babies are so little still!
On a side note, X had a massive vomit while i was feeding him tonight and managed to take out his clothes, sleeping bag, my clothes, the couch and my iPhone. Poor poppet. Happy as Larry after that though!
Just got him down now... He's already stirred once... Hope he doesn't vomit again!
But my iPhone is a bit sad... The speakers are cutting in and out and I keep getting a message pop up telling me "this accessory is not optimized for iPhone", when I've not got anything plugged in. Hmm.
lol OP! I guess the vomit accessory isn't made for iPhone. Wonder when they'll figure out how to make them compatible.
Thanks for the heads up on keeping your baby rearward facing. We've taken back the capsule to the hire place and have been using a hand-me-down car seat that came with a capsule but it said to only use the capsule until the baby was 700mm in length. So we thought we'd done the right thing. Maybe we need to get another car seat. T really hated the capsule, and I don't blame him, it didn't look very comfortable! Though I think it was more not being able to see stuff.
What car seats do you ladies have, and are they comfy for your bubs?
I've been spending (relatively) lots of money on T lately. We bought a Maclaren stroller at the boxing day sales. It's awesome! So light and easy to manoeuvre. AFter 5 and a half months of using an extremely old, clunky pram it was worth the money! But won't be able to use it for the first few months if we have another baby. Will have to find another pram on freecycle if that happens! Then today we bought a 5x1 expedit from ikea for his room. I have grand plans involving those dronas boxes for his toys. And got a bubba mat on ebay, had never been used, for $150.
Which brings me to my segue to: T is SO close to crawling now! He's been trying to go forward for a few weeks but just hasn't been getting his belly off the ground. But after only a short while on his new mat I realized he was doing it! And I saw him go forward a couple of times, mostly just lurching onto his chest but once he swung his knee through.
Gotta go, T is awake! Baby proofing must begin in earnest...

Emma - That's fantastic that T only woke once for you two nights in a row. MERRY CHRISTMAS! Hopefully it's continued on. Glad my little pat trick that I learned might have worked for you as well.
You also said you'd been feeding T veggies? Which ones? B has so many things now he can eat that I've had to make a list so I can remember it all So far he's liked everything that I've given him so that keeps up when he gets older.
Way to go T with the crawling. You can join us now in baby proofing. I didn't realise how un-baby proof our house was until a couple of weeks ago. I've found B pulling on power leads, wedged behind my 5 ft fish tank, licking the rush on the stand on my fish tank not too sure what is up with that, he tries to do it every time he has half the chance and this morning he hooked himself on one of the hooks that holds our french doors open so we went out immediately and changed the hooks to magnetic hold backs. We've also just finished making a baby gate to keep him out of the kitchen, one for the top of the ramp, and one for the back stairs...so much to do.
Car seat - We have a Safe n sound meridian (at least I think that's the model, it's the newest one out at any rate). Or maybe I should say we will have when I finish paying off the $50 dollars and pick it up off layby
Sal - That's fantastic weight gain for E. You must be stoked.
As for seeing B in his car seat. We had a friend give us a mirror that suctions on to the back window, so when I look around I can see him in the mirror. I love it because I always know what B is doing.
OP - Thanks for the heads up about having your baby rear facing until they have full control over their body. I'll have to look into that. We're planning on moving B from his capsule into his car seat soon but the car seat can be positioned to be rear facing.
AFU - We had a fantastic Christmas when we were at home and at FIL's. Won't even get into the saga of Christmas with MIL and SIL. That was well....an experience that DH and I would rather forget....at least nephew had a good time. B LOVED opening the presents. He loves paper so he really got into the tearing it off. We just had to make a bit of a rip so he could get hold then move the present so the rapping paper would tear around. He actually still has one present to open. LOL He had so many he got overwhelmed with things to play with so we left him with only about half opened on Christmas day and have been letting him open one or two every day since. He'll see one under the tree and crawl towards it so we'll get it out for him to open...The Christmas that keeps on giving hehehehe. He also had a blast at Poppy's (FIL) as he bought him a whole heap of bathtub toys which I promptly let him play with by filling the tub up. We don't have a bathtub at our house so B loves it when we go over for dinner at poppy's as I always give him a bath.
Also FIL thinks B is crawling. I'm not too sure I agree, but I guess it really depends on what you consider crawling. I guess I think ofcrawling as him up on all fours belly off the ground. But I've spoken to others who say it's when they get opposite arm and leg moving at the same time. He has a few odd scooting moves and he does from time to time move opposite arm and leg. He also has one where he just sort of kicks one back leg and scoots forward (have a video of that on photobucket from Christmas). But he doesn't really move with his belly up off the ground (or not very much) So I don't know. All I do know is that he gets around the house VERY well and we had to oranise gate and things much sooner then we thought we would!
Just a quick post to say WOW on the crawling bubs!! Way to go B and T! Amazing. X showing no signs of crawling yet! He's very happy with his rolling around at the moment.
Emma - I think you asked about car seats? We've also got the Safe n Sound Meridian, I think it's the best. Just MHO! It's rear-facing convertible to forward-facing, suitable from birth to I think 18kg. To put it into perspective, my almost 2yo DD is only 12kg! So you can use them for ages!
Not much else to report - just wanted to say hi and say that I always read your posts!
How's everyone going with solids? Dr T, I saw your other post about water, I think I'll start offering some to X every now and then. I think they do get most of their fluids from BM so I plan to keep offering bf first, then solids about an hour or so after a feed. Where to fit water in, not so sure. I guess if he's had a feed, had some veggies, might offer it after that maybe.
NYE was really hot down here and X didn't want to feed but was really grizzly, if I'd had a sippy cup I would have offered some then. But we were out and didn't have one so I had to persist offering the boob.
Has anyone started giving their bubs rusks? X was in the high chair yesterday and wanted some food but we were getting packed up so I gave him a rusk to gnaw on - he loved it! He's having one now too.
I can't believe our babies are six months already!!!!
Thanks for your thoughts on water. I might try offering him some today after his lunch solids. I know you may not answer by then, but do you offer in a bottle or a sippy cup?
More questions from me....I feel a bit stupid asking this...but what exactly is a rusk and what do they do? (So no I haven't given B any yet )
Also is X sitting up on his own? (or anyone else's for that matter) and if he's not how do you go in the high chair. I haven't but B in his yet, just the bumbo, because he doesn't sit on his own and I'm not sure if he'd just slump over or not. He's not really showing any signs of wanting to sit on his own either. He's always too busy scooting around everywhere and getting into micheif. DH and I had him in the kitfchen with us yetserday, and DH opened one of the drawers...well be was watching wasn't he and straight after that he scooted over to the same drawers and opened the bottom on so out to bunnings we went....again!
One last question. hehe When you say you were getting packed does that mean as in you found yourself a new house and are moving? or you were just getting packed to go out? Just asking as I remember you saying you were on the search for a bigger house.
AFU - B is still getting into mischeif. He's not even properly crawling yet and he's already trying to stand up I found him trying to pull himself up on the bird cage yesterday (he loves watching the birds) It's amasing how much he can get into/how far he can go while I am in the bathroom peeing! I think I might have to get him a playpen for when I go to the toilet, either that or start taking him with me Also found him wedged behing a fish tank again....thought we'd fixed that problem but apparently not. Still not entirely sure how he got back there...so DH has to try to think up a new way to keep him out as it would be too hard to move it, even just the couple of cm, even with most of the water drained out it would be too heavy and I don't even want to think of the logistics of emptying the whole thing.
My last news. I start work tomorrow....and now that the time is here I really don't want to go. I miss my work collegues, but I really don't like my job, and I am not looking forward to leaving B in daycare. I guess I was kinda hoping that DH's benchtop repair busness would have taken off by now and I wouldn't have to go back, that I could just stay home and look after accounts and whatnot. It's doing well, but not good enough to replace my wage for even 3 days a week. So I have to go back. I know he'll be fine at daycare. He probably won't even notice me leave, but I'm not going to be fine leaving him. I don't want some stranger looking after my baby

First off Dr T - big hugs babe I remember my first day back at work - it was really hard. I was in a similar position, hoping that our business would be able to pay me, but it couldn't. Though DD was 11mths old, not six. It must be so tough for you You're right, he will be fine. He probably will notice you leave (sorry to say) but take heart from the fact that he is such a happy little boy, once he realises all the exciting things and new friends for him to play with, he will have a blast and love it. Yes he might also get upset or cry when you get back but I'm sure that'll be put on He'll love it.

WRT water: I'd try a sippy cup first - do you have one that they need to suck on still? Otherwise I found DD choked a little bit while getting used to a cup that the water just flowed out of, with no valve. She did adjust fine though, with her we just used Tupperware sippy cups. They have a great one with handles that's a perfect size. She also got her own pink Tupperware mini drink bottle (like Mummy's!) when she was maybe 9 months or so? Which she now knows is hers and carries around with her. I've got a green one for X for when he'll start using a drink bottle.
Hahaha rusks are teething rusks - they are a hard, biscuit like thing. But really hard - babies can't bite them, they have to gnaw on them, mush them up a bit and eat them. They are supposed to help with teething pain, the feeling of the hard biscuit thing rubbing on their sore gums. They're with baby food in the supermarket. They aren't biscuits though, they are pretty healthy I'm sure. X had another one this morning, he seems to love them. DD could take them or leave them and would often have a half-hearted chew and then drop them, but he seems to love them.
And no, X isn't sitting up on his own - he will sit unsupported, with me close by, for a few minutes, before sliding down to one side, or face planting He's fine in the high chair though - I have a really good one, its a Peg Perego Prima Pappa, which is really adjustable and has great straps. I've got the actual seat bit angled back so he's reclined slightly, so its quite supportive of him. I can say that my high chair is a really good one because I didn't buy it hehehe! My friend donated it to me when she was done with it and she only buys the best
So the chair helps him sit up properly. Its a bit more difficult in other, dodgier high chairs, that don't have the same straps - if we are out somewhere, often I'll leave him in the pram as the straps are better than most high chairs!
As for packing - I think I meant we were just packing to go out for the day from memory. With two kids its often a bit of a production!!
But YES - we did buy a new house!!!! We settle on Jan 14th! Very exciting!! So much more room, we won't know ourselves!
Anyway - you get back to your gorgeous little mischief maker before he finds something else to chew/climb on/suck/crawl into!!!
DR T- It will all be ok...I feel your pain- its hard going back to work. Just take it hour by hour. Before you know it you will be back in the swing of things.
WRT the rusks- we were giving them to Lily for awhile but got alittle fed up with them because she would keep dropping them on the floor and they would get covered in stuff. We now use a cool rusk which is a tube like thing filled with water. You put it in the fridge and when you need it you give it to them and it helps numb the gums. If you go with the solid rusk option check out the ingredients. I have seen afew that contain salt- I really don't understand why salt should be in a babies diet.
And WOW- we have some crawlers in the house...awesome.!! Lily is not even close- shes a belly baby...LOL..Life must be getting tough for those of you baby proffing the house- we havn't even got there yet!!
Lily has got 3 teeth! She eats pumpkin, sweet potato, carrot (which make her majorly constipated), apple, pear, broccoli, and peas. We are starting her on fish this week. She still sleeps through from 730pm to about 8am. She now says DaDa and talks none stop saying babababa ogogogoo and so on....LOL. DH is doing an absolutely fantastic job being SAHD. I have not washed a dish or hung out washing or done ANY housework since I have been back at work. I don't even cook tea which is a real relief as I really hated cooking. I still maintain that I am the boss when I'm at home despite DH thinking he is incharge!
