Morning all!

Tegam, I am tired just reading about what you will be doing in a week too! I guess I'm lucky that DS1 is still so young - we only have school and swimming lessons to contend with and DH will take him to swimming. I can't imagine what the chaos is going to be like when we have a double school run (DS1 will finish at 2:45 and DS2 will finish at midday) plus soccer and hopefully piano soon too!

Kel, it's great that DH is off for three weeks. I am LOVING having my DH at home and so are the boys!

Crumpet, I don't think I knew you had a PPH. Glad you're up and about now.

Us: BRILLIANT night! DH was home so got up to DS2 when he woke up, but it was only at 5am anyway. Josh was up for his usual hour at 2:45 but apart from that, I slept from 10:30 until 7:30! Woohoo!!!! I'm on my own for most of today so I desperately needed a good nights' sleep

Sorry I've been MIA but I'm sure you understand what it's like to be in the ecstatic fog of new mummyness! I have been trying to keep up with what everyone has been up to. Sounds like we've got some amazing bubs in this group!! Sounds like everyone is taking to their new families brilliantly!

We're doing really well here. I am more in love with Katie every day. She is 6 weeks old today and I can't believe she's growing so fast! She had her follow up with the paed this morning and he's really happy with her. She's put on 1.6 kg since birth and is now in the 50th percentile. We're having lots of smiles now and she really looks at you. It's amazing how quickly she is developing, every day she seems to be able to do something new!

Argh! The wind issues are driving me crazy - David goes down well for his day naps, but keeps waking within 30 mins over and over with wind - he was so overtired yesterday that he was a very cranky little boy and didn't sleep as well last night. And here we go again - he's crying for the third time since I put him down 45 mins ago - sigh! I know it's partly due to what I've eaten so I'm going to be VERY good today and avoid anything that might possibly cause him wind!

WHat do you think is causing the wind with what you have eaten? Did you look at my thread i started? Miss molly has been so much better since i started the block feeding... her wind is about 50% better after just a full day....worth a try

Oh dear, and i only had 2 floods of tears this morning, it was hard to hold it together as he said goodbye to the kids but the inlaws were watching...

Its been a lovely 7 weeks (yes i know im totally spoilled - so glad DH and i decided that it was worth taking those few extra weeks unpaid).

So now to pull up my socks and get back into the swing of it. I can do it....surely.....cant i??...........

yeah i scored one! only 1.5lt so not the worst it could have been, but enough to knock me around for the first 24-48hrs, thankfully i had Summahs plastic bucket to lean when i needed to get round the hospital or i would have been on the floor a few times!

summah had shocking wind issues coz of the antibiotics she was on, so we put her on infacol and it has made a massive difference

AFU: well like miss katherine, Summah is 6 weeks old today!!!

this time 6 weeks ago i was telling my nurse to hook me up with a pethadine shot, followed pretty closely by the demand for a epidural! great pian tollerance i have!

not much more going on really, just running round like a hoodless chook doing housewife/mummy things.

am totally loving every minute of being a mummy.....
just seeing her face when i get her up in the morning makes it all worth while, and when her and DH have cuddles after her bath i just melt.

so looks like ill be pinning DH down and forcing him to give me number 2 after all!
so when im sick as a dog with MS and in hospital at 12w getting a stitch put in my cervix with my trusty mate the catheter please remind me of how much i love being a mum!

Tegam - basically things that would give me wind seem to have a roll-on effect on David - on Sunday at mum's I had a Cornetto icecream and fruit salad with lots of stone fruit, then yesterday I had a big bunch of seedless green grapes - I think the worse culprit was the icecream (I'm lactose-intolerant). He was windy again this morning, but is much better this arvo and has now been asleep for an hour and a half, so hopefully that's the worst of it over. I'm eliminating dairy (which isn't hard, since i can't have it anyway), chocolate (very very hard), caffeine (not hard, don't really drink coffee), veges like cabbage and broccoli, and now I think I need to be careful what fruit I eat as well.

Crumpet - I've used Brauer's colic relief - helped a bit, now using Infant's Friend - helps a bit more, but if things don't settle down I was going to try Infacol as well, especially now that he's a bit older. I think the food I'm eating is the issue atm though, since we had a great day on Sat and Sun (he slept for over 3 hrs on Sunday arvo at mum's place!).

6 weeks! Congrats Katie and Summah! We'll be there on Sat - time flies when you're having fun

Tegam - I'm sure you'll have tough moments, but you'll be ok - so great that your DH could have so much time at home with you. My DH hasn't been able to have any time off work since David was born, but we've enjoyed the public holidays over Christmas and the weekends together. During the week, he pretty much gets home in time to hold David while I finish making dinner, then does his bath with me before I put him down for the night. Can't wait for DH to have his business on our new block - he'll be home so much earlier and could even take time to play with David in the arvo, then go back to work for a couple of hours. Might be a year or two away though.

Wow. No sleep here. Sammy Boy (SB) is waking every hour at the moment, we've been using a bassinette but ended up co-sleeping with him for a nap and it worked really well. Just a bit scared about how to safely co-sleep? Had a dom visit and he's only just started to gain back his birth weight, so it's probably good that he's waking every hour for a feed! Also, has anyone else had the chills? Last night I couldn't stop shaking and it's happened again a couple of times today. As far as I know I don't have cracked nipples, they hurt a bit, but SB's attachment isn't always great (lactation appt on Fri) and I've been checking and I don't have a fever. Could it be a reaction to the c-section? Glenny did you get this at all???

SB is one week old tomorrow, it's gone fast! I would really really really like some sleep though.

Kit- I didn't have anything like that. Make sure you keep an eye on yourself, if it doesn't improve I would go see your doc. Can you ring your OB and ask him what he thinks?

Dis, it makes life so much easier with an extra pair of hands doesn't it? I haven't been left with the three kids on my own yet, and I'm not really looking forwards to that day either! I'm sure all will be fine, but it's just the anticipation of it! DH is getting up to the bigger kids for me right now, so that's made things 100 times easier, especially considering Liam is waking in hysterics some nights and is coming into bed with us...there were 4 in the bed.....so not comfy! Some nights I have gone to the spare bed so we get a bit of decent sleep. So not looking forwards to night shifts when DH goes back to work. That will be a huge challenge for all of us. I'm hoping Liam settles down by then. He's been so out of sorts since I was in hospital for so long, plus going to mums for 2 weeks and just general new baby sibling sort of behaviour. Lily is being an angel though and is absolutely besotted with Caelan.

Jen10, I found with DS1 that I had to be careful with what I ate too. He was sensitive to a fair few foods early on (certain fruits/veggies, dairy products, spicey foods, chocolate) til he was about 4ish mths old. And then after that it was mostly just dairly products and chocolate I couldn't eat or we had a screaming night from hell!

Tegam, hoping that your day was a good one and that your DH isn't away for too long. It's so hard when they go back to work, I remember when DH went back to work when I had Liam I was in tears for about a week before he even went! I know you know this but it will be ok and gets easier and once you have a routine going it will just be any other normal day! But I know how hard it is.

crumpet, 1.5lt is a fair bit of blood to lose, not so small! I lost about 2lt they told me, but considering my iron levels were fairly low to begin with it made it all the more difficult. It makes life that little bit harder when you're feeling tired anyway, but to have the tiredness of being a mum to a new baby as well, life gets a little blurry sometimes, lol! I have been terribly unlucky in that I had PPH with all three of my births and one of my angels. It's a horrible feeling. The OB told me if I had another bub, it's likely that I would haemmorage again and it could be worse. Lucky DH and I aren't doing it again! I just con't think I could do it again anyway. Wayyyy too much stress on my poor old body, lol!

kitfaerie, sorry you're having ahard time with sleep. I know the feeling I have had two kids who are allergic to sleep. Co sleeping saved me when I had DS1 because he and DD are so close together (16mths difference), she was still waking several times a night too. It's tough!
As for the chills, nope, none here. But take care. Watch out for infection (from your c/s) and mastitis! I have had mastitis several times and you will feel like death warmed up if you get it. I almost got it a few days ago but thankfully dodged that little blessing, lol!

AFU, Well, I was lucky enough to get in an almost 4 hour marathon nanna nap today! I soo needed it though, I was starting to feel a little exhausted. Caelan slept with me and it was so lovely. He is such a lovely placid baby. The past few days he's been so quiet, just waking for booby and then sleeping like an angel! Hoping that is what he's going to be like always! After two very demanding, feed two hourly, non sleeping children (one of which still doesn't sleep all night!) I think it's time I got one who is a little like me and is a bit more quiet and contented! At the moment he's feeding about 4hrly, which kind of worries me a little, mostly because my other two fed so often and it seems to me like it's just not enough! Though he's happy, wets often and poops (alot!) every two days (so far). Which is another thing that's different to the other two...we had pooey nappies every nappy change with them! It's so hard not to compare!
Anyway, better go and see if my littlest man is awake...4hours is nearly up! I will wake him if he's not up himself soon. Gosh....never thoguht I'd be waking a sleeping baby!

KIT: Co sleeping is the only why i have gotten thru all 4 of my kids, it does feel weird to start with. But we are one of the only cultures that dont sleep with our babies and if you read the SIDS guidelines its regarded as safe IF you and DH DONT have and effects of alcohol, smoke or have any drugs... personal choice hun and its all yours.

Kit - that's very often for feeding - no wonder you're tired! Does he feed for very long each time or just fall asleep?

lilias - my bub fed every 4 hours at first, then switched to more of a 3 -hr schedule after a couple of weeks - I was worried at first because the midwives kept saying he should feed every 3 hours, but trying to wake him for feeds made us both tired and cranky, so in the end I let him do his own thing and we were much happier (he was gaining weight and giving me plenty of wet/dirty nappies).

DH is off canoeing with BIL this morning - BIL and SIL (DH's younger sister) just found out they're having another boy (they have 2 already - the ones I babysat the other day) - a bit disappointing for them, I think they were hoping for a girl this time, but they do make gorgeous boys, so I'm sure they'll adjust Talk about a boy-dominated family! On DH's side we already have 6 nephews and just 2 nieces, so with David and the new bub for SIL, that's 8 boys now! No wonder the family gatherings on that side of the family are so noisy!!
We're going to my brother's place for a BBQ lunch today - David will get a lot of cuddles there - fortunately he seems to have got over his windy couple of days and had a great night and has gone down beautifully for a morning nap (yesterday's arvo nap turned into nearly 3 hours too). It must be the food I'm eating, because I've been using the Infant's Friend in exactly the same way the whole time. How will I give up my chocolate fix!!! Well, the upside is that I should be able to get these last few kilos off more easily now!!

Kit: we co-sleep here to, DH won't sleep with us though cos he's scared of squishing her. I was at first (and trust me usually I am a crazy sleeper!) but now I can not have her not sleep with me, and she's slept with me since birth. Sometimes I wake up and find that I have been trying to settle her in my sleep and I wake up with my finger in her mouth lol- then I realise the poor thing is due to wake up for a feed. And have also started sleeping her on her tummy not right over we roll up a towel and put it under her. Before we were doing it this way she was waking up every hour to feed or not sleeping at all! But now she sleeps all the time, well not all the time but a heck of a lot better.

Tegam: yay to the 3 big kids sleeping all night, bet that gave you a bit more rest! Yay to the inlaws going bad to your DH gone too.

Jen: I was addicted to chocolate before DD was born, but since I've had her I haven't had any or felt like it.

Em, DS2 slept on his tummy from 8 weeks old because he wouldn't sleep any other way. When he got admitted to hospital at 3 months I thought I'd cop it from the nurses when I put him on his tummy to sleep, but they actually said it was better for his breathing while he was so sick - phew! I wish I could co-sleep, but it makes me too anxious so I settle for a bassinette beside the bed.

Jen, yay for your BIL and SIL! Three boys are great - although I might be slightly biased I think I am a little sad for some girly things I will miss out on - mostly for a grown up daughter, but I am very happy with my three boys and wouldn't change it for the world.... or go back for #4 either for that matter!

Kel, Liam sounds a lot like DS2 and Caelen sounds a lot like Josh! He's the most placid, settled baby. We are getting five hour blocks of sleep each night!!!! I almost don't know what to do with him I SO hear you on the comparing them! I'm always saying "DS1 use to do that" or "DS2 use to pull that face".... grrrr, I make myself mad

Kit, DS2 use to wake up every hour and then stretched it out to every two hours. If co-sleeping works for you both, DO IT. DS2 is still a terrible sleeper so if you can get Sammy to sleep longer now, hopefully it will help him (and you) further down the track and you won't end up like us!
Keep an eye on that shivery feeling, it doesn't sound good at all, although my mw told me that some women get flu-like symptoms when their milk comes in. Hopefully it's just that.

Glenny and Crumpet, happy late 6 week birthday to your bubbas! Far out that's gone fast!!!!

Us: Well another brilliant night from Mr Joshua (hehe, sounds like the bad guy in Lethal Weapon!). He slept two blocks of five hours last night and was only up for 45 minutes of feeding and changing in between! DH got up to DS2 when he woke up at 5am so I got a LOT of sleep. I'm still tired though, I think I need to get my aneamia checked, it was supposed to disappear once I gave birth, but I've always been borderline anyway. I can't take any iron at all at the moment because I have a hemarrhoid from hell that is literally the biggest pain in the backside ever! It's only tiny, but boy does it hurt. I'm trying the creams, but nothing is working except warm baths. BUT, that's my only complaint at the moment. I'm incredibly happy with my life right now

I feel the same, it would be a bit better to have her sleep in the cot now that i have to get up to the other kids (when they wake cause i know this sleeping thing wont last) but they grow up so quickly! AFM: Well the weirdness continues in my house. Miss Molly seems to be over her wind issues and has been a perfect baby today! Also managed to get DS and Molly down at the same time so i had 2.5hrs in bed, it was a bit interupted but the older two did try to be quiet. I am feeling like i am in an ultered universe... DH cant believe it, and the funniest thing is he had a terrible nights sleep last night and hhe was alone
